so no more moisture comes in.

We had a caravan which was a bit
bigger than that.

There's enough space to have fun
and to laugh a lot.

Honestly, just getting all
the stuff together

and going to the unknown
on an adventure.

And before you even set off
on holiday,

restoring a caravan can be
an adventure in itself.

Two years ago, Mademoiselle Daisy,
our vintage Asquith,

came into our lives.

We transformed her from a
working wedding bus

into a fun family camper van.

Dick fixed the functionality

and I decorated the interior
with soft chalky paint

and bold fabrics to get us all
in the holiday mood.

Right, let's get this show
on the road.

With Sylvia and Paul's caravan
holiday already booked,

we want to use the skills we learnt
from Mademoiselle Daisy

to help get them on the road
as soon as we can.

And where better to say "Hi" than in
Mademoiselle Daisy herself.

We went from a tent to a caravan,

And when we went to the caravan,
it was like having a castle.

Yeah, completely different,
so it is.

Going from a tent to a caravan
was phenomenal.

We've seen the caravan.

And you mentioned damp, actually,
Sylvia.

When you say "the damp",
did you actually mean rot?

The wood, it is, it's rotted away.

Fixing that is one of the key things
we really have to get our head into.

You've got two double seating areas,
haven't you?

I don't know, Sylvia,
if you want to get in

and sort of upholster them all?

Or if we could paint them
with a fabric paint?

Dick is going to be taking the lead
on getting everything working,

and then we're going to make
it look attractive.

Instead of replacing Geraldine's
upholstery,

I want to see if painting the fabric
will work.

But I've been worried she'll be left
a bit crunchy -

so I'm going to do a test first.

Sylvia has genuinely given me
a reason

to do something that I've wanted to
do for a long, long, long time -

to see if you can paint this velour.

I know you can do leather,
I know you can even do suede,

but because this has got a pile
on it,

I've never, ever believed it works.

So, whatever paint Sylvia uses,
she's going to dilute it,

which is good, because it'll
go further.

And honestly, I think that she'll
probably be able

to get her entire caravan done for,
like, 20 quid.

OK, I'm going to need gloves
for this one

I want to actually massage it in.

I've watered down chalk paint by 50%

and I'm using a large, dense brush
to tackle the fabric.

You do need to wet it.

And I am just going to...

You're stippling it in more than
brushing it in, aren't you?

Actually, I'm half painting
and half massaging,

pushing the colour in.

This is a quick, fun solution.

The paint will take a few hours
to dry

so I'll be back later for
the crunch test.

But first, it's time for another
request.

The fence is very, very tired.

I'm not sure how old it is,
but it's looking very old

and a little bit rotten
down at the bottom.

The paving stones,
there's no pointing there,

so we probably need to do something,

and there's a few loose flags
as well.

These are just sitting on top of the
flags that are underneath it.

That's interesting.

So Nancy's originally from London,

but I moved down a few years ago
from Yorkshire

and I'm definitely missing all
of the outdoor space.

I get that completely.
I know you do.

Outside space is so, so important,

and it's interesting because when
you talk about outside space

and enjoying it, it doesn't mean
gardening.

It just means exactly that -
it means outside space.

It's a really good-sized garden and
our living room overlooks it,

so we just want to make it a little
bit more attractive

for looking out on,

but then also enjoying those summer
days out in the garden.

That is joining this room
to the garden.

It is, isn't it? It's an extension
of their living room.

Both of our families have a good
amount of DIY experience

but I think they'd probably say
we skipped the gene.

Arthur says he's skipped a gene.

I don't always agree with that,

I just think that the skills aren't
handed over in the same way.

We actually work on the premise that
everybody can do everything.

I know. And that's where we start.

We believe that.

their fence here, really.

It's really good cos we can get it
nice and uniform all the way round.

We haven't really done a project
like that -

like, a proper lounge garden.

I haven't even heard the word
lounge garden.

I've just made it up. I like it.

ANGEL: Looking after and restoring
the Chateau is a full-time job.

Oh, there's lumps coming down.

DICK: But, no matter how busy,

we've always got time
to help you with your projects.

Let's see what Sylvia and
Paul have been up to.

A few days ago,
Sylvia and Paul asked us for help

bringing their dated caravan,
Geraldine, back to life.

So, we have stripped the wall panel
off to get at the rot underneath,

just to see how bad it is.

The batons.

To make that end right,
all of that has to come out

to allow them to get in to fix
the windows in place properly.

It's not a matter of
blocking out the sunlight,

it's a matter of fixing it.

And, with holiday season
fast approaching,

they're going to need
a speedy solution.

So, I've come to my workshop
to show Paul how to deal

with Geraldine's rot problem.

Inside a caravan, you've got
the front skin, the aluminium skin,

and then, there's a frame
of usually soft wood.

The problem we have with Paul
and Sylvia's caravan is this -

a lot of this is rotted.

Paul could strip out all
the rotten wood and replace it -

if time and money allow.

But their holiday countdown has
already begun.

Oh!

They're going on holiday soon.

You know what I mean?
There's no messing around here.

So, what's happening instead,
there's much more of a patching

element going on, rather than,
"Let's fix it all from scratch".

Oh, horrible, isn't it?

I'm going to put on some
Durcisseur Bois. Oh!

It's basically wood hardener
for rotten wood.

And this principal is not
just for caravans -

it can be used for any rotted wood.

D00, doo, doo!
Two hours later, at least.

Oh, it does really work.

Wood filler. Yeah.

There we go, watch.
See how I just did that?

No messing around. Slap it on.

Slapping it on.

It looks like a lovely cake.

When this is set,
take off the shuttering,

and we have a piece of wood
shape we can fix to.

That's our objective.

I'll come back later to remove
the casing and check if

the wood filler has set.

Meanwhile, my painted
fabric has dried,

and I'm determined to prove there'll
be no crusty coverings in Geraldine.

Come and feel it, because I won't
change the look of it much now,

but I'll change how it feels.

Just with this little sanding block,
you know, the sort of spongey ones.

Yeah. OK, right, now feel that.

OK, that's pretty impressive.

That is actually surprising.

The bottom-line, babe,
is that this does work,

and I have thought for probably
about a decade about doing this.

And I've done it.

It was quick and cheap,
and easy, and actually...

...it works!

And talking of things working out,

I'm back to check on
my wood filler.

So, here we go. Oops.

And it didn't stick.

It's wood-shaped.

I've got my big internal skin,

and I want to attach it...

It's like a piece of wood.

This should give Sylvia and Paul
a speedy yet sure-fire solution

for Geraldine's rot.

to figure out?

A few days ago, we asked Nancy and
Arthur to measure up and give us

some ideas for what their dream
lounge garden might look like.

That's not how you use
a tape measure. No.

I feel like Dick's not going
to be impressed with this maths.

I have no idea what a Boho is,
I've never met one,

but when you actually get to that
point, I will be walking away.

"L've never met a Boho!"

I might not know about boho,

but I do know how to show Nancy
and Arthur a way to make

their garden structurally sound.

Erm, tape measure skills, we're
going to have to work on, Nancy.

Otherwise, call it a "guestimation"

and round the numbers up,
that's all it takes.

The fence along your right-hand
side, looking down the garden -

that looked solid, it looked like
decent posts going into the ground.

On the other side, erm,

that looked a little bit
less than vertical.

Yeah, yeah, definitely.

When was the last time you put
in fence posts and fences?

Erm...

What I'll do is I'll give you
a little bit of guidance on that.

We're going to be doing a similar,
sort of, outside lounge room, erm,

on my mum and dad's patio,

And this is something
they have wanted for a long time,

but they are after a pergola.

Do you like the idea of a pergola?

Yeah.

You'll come out, string your
lights up, put the cushions out,

light the candles, and everyone
at that point is going to go...

SHE GASPS AUDIBLY

But Nancy and Arthur can't
get creative yet.

First, they'll need to tackle
the fencing and brickwork,

then the al-fresco fun can begin.

Since moving to the chateau,
we've used different spots

to bring the inside out.

Vintage sofas on weathered
flagstones for a tea garden,

painted fencing and geometric
paving for secluded hot tubs,

and decking by the boat on the moat
keeps everything looking shipshape.

Before Nancy and Arthur can make
a start on their pergola,

they need to fix their fencing -

so I've come outside to
the patio to show them how.

What we want to do is make sure
Arthur understands how to

put a post in for his fence.

We're going to have a pergola,

so it's the same principal
to put a vertical post in.

This is going to go into
the ground, OK? Yeah.

The first thing we need to do
is lift up a paving stone.

What I don't want to
is damage everything else.

It's now ready for breaking.

Well, I never. One whole.

Hello, hello! Well done.

So, now it's time to just
make this a big hole.

Arthur and Nancy are going
to get away with probably

just about a foot.

Yeah, that'll be plenty
for a fence post.

But, because our pergola posts
are taller and wider,

I need to go deeper.

That's quite - that's 18 inches.
That's quite a lot, isn't it? Yeah.

It's a big hole.

Can that bit be a bit round
this side, please?

It's actually quite heavy.

Right. Right, that's fab.

OK.

I'm going to put a couple of
bits of wood attached to it

to get myself almost vertical, yeah,
then I'll use a third piece

to get it perfectly vertical.

Yeah. So, I put the second
screw in here...

Let's make some concrete!

I'm using the 3-2-1 rule -

three parts gravel to
two parts sand,

to one part cement.

And I'm going to make you
a cup of tea.

Time to see what's
brewing with Paul,

as he tackles my quick fix
for Geraldine's rot.

It takes about two hours for this
to harden before we can do

any extra work on it.

Sylvia is trying out the
fabric paint in a dusky blush.

And with the holiday countdown clock
ticking, there's no time to lose.

And I've got another cost-saving
idea up my sleeve for Sylvia,

which literally costs buttons.

On Sylvia's seats,
she's got loads of little buttons.

As we are painting the cushions,

my suggestion is a little cheap and
cheerful way of covering the buttons

that's not going to take her
a lot of time.

Sylvia needs to measure
the diameter of her button,

and then, give a circle with about
a centimetre around the edge.

I'm going to do a running stitch,
which is literally an in-and-out.

I've gathered it together,
but I've still got my needle on it,

and then, you're just going
to sew it into place.

You can do that in 60 seconds.

Sylvia could paint them,
and that would be fine,

But actually, covering it in
something that she's done

the curtains with or, I don't know,
a different fabric that ties it in,

in the caravan, I kind of think
Sylvia will like that.

Nice. Good.

Nancy and Arthur are cracking on,

putting into practice our lessons
on fixing fence posts

and re-laying the patio.

And it looks like they've found
their DIY gene in the process.

I've been working hard turning
Nancy and Arthur's dream

of an outdoor Boho living space
into a workable design.

I just really hope they like it.

As far as I'm aware, there are
no rules for making pergolas.

I think it is called a per-goal-a.

And we are going to be
celebrating our first Ramadan

away from my family.

So, the idea I had was to create,
like, an advent calendar

type of thing, so a countdown
towards Eid.

For the 30 days we'll be fasting,
and at the end of each fast,

I thought it would be lovely if the
kids could have some sort of treat

for being really good and
doing their good deeds.

So, immediately, I'm thinking of
the advent calendar that I did

for Arthur and Dorothy.

We talked about having,
do you remember, like, one big box,

and then, sort of,
refreshing it everyday?

And you said to me,

"That is not the excitement,
the excitement is seeing"...

Knowing that it's there.

"..That there's 24-30 of something."

The idea is that I would create
something with wood -

but I've never done it before,
I've never created a shelf before.

So, I'm really, really stuck in
how to just put it all together

and create something really
spectacular and fun.

It feels like I need to take
the reins on this,

so I will give Aqsaa a call.

To bring light into

I'm running with the Boho look -

and I've raided the kitchen
to show them some simple

but effective tricks for stylish
candle holders using macrame.

I've taken some of your
preserving jars...

..from OUR the preserving cupboard.

So, this is just a cotton,
a four-ply cotton.

And it is super, super cheap.

Macrame dates back to
the 13th century,

and one of the most
common and useful knots is

the Lark's head knot.

There, that's my first little
lark head knot,

and then, fill it up with an even
number of lark head knots.

That's her first stage done.

The Lark's head knot pulls
both ends of the string back

through its loop to attach.

And once your top line is complete,
there's a variety of macrame knots

to choose from, each creating
a unique pattern.

So, I'm going to do
an overhand knot.

I'm going to keep this one straight,
and I'm going to go over and under.

Now I'm going to keep my
left one tight and go over...

Through the gap.
..through the gap, and under.

Keep this one tight as I pull it up.

Just any certain number of those?

I'm going to do six on each.

There we go. Yeah.

So, the top of this jar is
what you're doing there.

Yes. That's exactly it.

And you can do anything you want.

You can do little, sort of,
diamonds, you could cut them into

zig-zags at the bottom.

Whatever Nancy fancies doing,
she can do with it.

I'm halfway through my wildlife pond

created to encourage frogs and toads
to ward off unwanted garden pests.

a vital component, though.

Now I've got a question,
why do you have lily pads in a pond?

Cos we've added frogs and frogspawn,
and they can go on there?

Hiding underneath the lily pads,

how are we going to get them out?

I don't know.

I'm hoping we'll be able to
pull out a pot of lily pad roots.

It is actually quite heavy, let's

With the lily pads loaded up,
we can transport them to

their new home for the
next stage of my project.

A few days ago, I asked Aqsaa
to have a rummage for materials

to use on her Ramadan calendar.

I'm going to show you
my craft drawer.

And she did not disappoint.

I've got loads of different
types of strings.

I've also got these copper
pipe edges, and I've got

two copper pipes downstairs.

She's got a colourful craft drawer.

But you know the one theme
that runs through that,

is there's lots of copper
and metallics.

I think I saw a cutter
in her drawer.

There's a circular cutter for
cutting pipes, I'm sure it was there

with the other bits.

I know that Aqsaa has hardboard,
and I know she's got the pipes

and the fittings.

If you can get me to a stage where
I've got something to hang from,

then I can have a little bit of fun.

OK, I can do that. Good.

I've come to my workroom to show
Aqsaa how to turn her copper piping

into a rail where she can hang
treats for her Ramadan calendar.

I've collected together
some bits and pieces

that I've seen Aqsaa's got,
all right? Let's have a look.

And there's another surprise -
Nancy and Arthur have been honing

their recently-found skills in the
garden, including the construction

of a magnificent pergola.

And, proving Nancy's as adept
at crafting as carpentry,

she is tackling the
macrame lanterns.

I've decorated Aqsaa's Ramadan
calendar with some simple cut-outs.

And now, I want to show
the family how they can have fun

hanging treats from the rail.

So, I got the templates
from the Internet for the boxes,

and I also got the template
of the mosque.

I have printed out box
templates before,

but I haven't done it for a long,
long time,

so it was a lot of fun.
SHE CHUCKLES

Look how nice that bend
went in, babe. Let's see it.

Something really satisfying
about box-making,

cos it does feel like you've
made something out of nothing.

Option two - simple fabric bags.

I cut this off of a little dress
that was too long for me,

and now, I'm just literally doing
a running stitch all the way around.

Just finish it off at the end.

Ta-da!

I'm going to start putting
some of these up.

Ladies and gentlemen...

There we go,
we've got a beautiful skyline,

solid copper posts.

Oh, look at that! That's not going
to move unless you swung from it.

Lovely little boxes.

It feels like something festive
and treat-like, and the idea is,

you know, you don't know
what's in there,

that's part of the excitement,
isn't it?

And I think that's a lot of fun.

I think that's very special,
actually. I like it.

Life is bursting everywhere
around the Chateau,

except for our new pond, which
is still looking a little empty.

Good man.

So, we've brought some lily
pads from the Chateau moat

along with the plants
collected from the marshes,

to help bring some life
to our pond.

Oh, here we go. Arthur...

This is the first time you've
ever planted a lily.

Push it in, push it
into the water a little bit more.

Grab that. Oh.

That looks perfect to me.
ANGEL CHUCKLES

Can you see the bee? Yes.

It's trying to find
somewhere to get a drink.

If we put the gravel
down into the water,

that means the bee will always have
to gravel to land on to get a drink.

Tip, tip, tip, up. Oh!

Like that. OK? When the water level
comes up, that'll be in the water.

We're getting there,
aren't we? Yeah!

It's starting to look like a pond.

All we need is some rain. Great.

There are still several stages
to go on my pond project,

but now nature has
her own work to do.

who've been busy little bees

have worked their socks off

to make their Ramadan

For Ramadan, sweets!

Aw. Doesn't it look fab?

It took us a day to
make just 15 boxes,

so I decided that on 15th day of
Ramadan,

we can just re-use all the boxes,
and I can fill them up again.

Well, actually, they're
quite big boxes, so!

The whole table looks incredible.

So who's excited to
open their very first box?

A few weeks ago,
Nancy and Arthur came to us

and asked for our help
in creating an outdoor room

in what was previously
a tired back yard.

Happy days.

for the big reveal.

Nancy and Arthur have
surpassed all expectations.

They've created a
stylish garden space

that not only succeeds
in bringing the inside out,

but all those little extra
touches makes it a home.

That's very good,
they've done really well.

I don't think anyone will have
expected us to have done it.

Aw, they've got to be
so happy with that.

And despite having no
previous experience,

they have learned loads of
new skills along the way,

plus one top tip
I hadn't even thought of.

This is the planter
which we've made.

And this I'm incredibly proud of,

is a seat on a hinge so we
can fill it with bottles of wine.

That's a real sociable area.

It's an amazing garden.

Just doing the fence & gate
took, like, an entire week.

who I used to go to and be like,

How did you do this?"

And I'm like "Oh, yeah,

But it is, because you've
done it, and you understood it.

garden at our end and have a drink

under our Pergola.
