[Legend of Fuyao]

[Episode 57]

I also found out about certain matters.

I can roughly make out the secret behind the royal family of Xuanji.

Perhaps your identity is closely related to the secret of this palace.

We have to start from here.

But if we're looking for the truth, we'll need to ask someone for help.

Who?

Yu Heng.

He's a veteran in this palace.

As Feng Xuan's Shadow

he knows more about this palace than anyone else.

Why would he help us?

I made a deal with him.

As long as I find his wife and daughter

he'll offer us his assistance in the palace

and restrain Feng Xuan as much as he can.

What you're investigating... and what I'm after is the same.

Different means, same goal.

Perhaps we were always in the same boat.

You serve under Feng Xuan.

You've harmed the country and people, killing loyal and upright people.

How am I on par with you?

Indeed.

She's got me under her thumb.

What other choice do I have?

All these years, I've been played and manipulated by Feng Xuan.

It isn't because I coveted fame, wealth, or an extravagant life...

It's just that there's an unresolved matter on my mind.

I can't find any closure.

Only Feng Xuan can help me find some closure.

Because...

she's the only one who knows where my wife and daughter are.

Only she knows.

Senior, are you looking for Feng Qi and Feng Wu Ming?

I know that I may never find them.

For years, I've acted as Feng Xuan's executioner.

All because she told me that my wife and daughter are alive.

I don't dare to disobey her.

What if...

they really are alive?

Senior...

Your daughter is probably still alive.

How come he doesn't know that his wife is dead?

Yu Heng was Commander of Purple Cape.

He was responsible for defending the kingdom.

When Feng Qi was eight months pregnant, disaster struck the Foggy Sea of Fufeng.

The attack of the sea creatures cast the people into great misery.

Yu Heng couldn't sit on the sidelines

so he led the army south to the Foggy Sea.

So he missed the birth of his child.

Exactly.

By the time he returned, it was five or six months later.

Both Feng Qi and their child were missing.

Feng Xuan was crowned the queen then.

Feng Xuan must've plotted all of it to get the throne.

She must have something to do with Feng Qi's death.

He thinks so too.

But aside from Feng Qi's obsession with the throne of Xuanji

he didn't expect her to be infatuated with him too.

Since then, Feng Xuan has threatened him

using the whereabouts and lives of his wife and daughter

to make him stay by her side.

Although Yu Heng is one of the Ten Saints

he made an oath to Xuanji Kingdom.

As long as Feng Xuan remains on the throne

he has to obey her orders.

Does Yu Heng trust her that much?

It isn't that I trust her.

I just can't lose hope.

It's been almost 20 years.

I no longer dare to dream that they're still alive.

But I can't give up on hope either.

If I don't even have this hope

to hold onto, then what's the point of living?

I give you my word.

I'll find them.

But at the crucial moment, you must cooperate with me.

What would you like me to do?

What do you want in exchange?

If she really is your daughter

all I wish is for is that the two you are reunited.

That's all.

I guess Yu Heng is a pitiful man.

Quickly! Over here!

Yu Heng and I agreed to meet at Ruichen Palace in two hours.

- Quickly! - We should leave now.

There they are!

How dare you try to escape?

This incense was put away for years.

I wanted to light it when you got married.

Now, it seems that I don't need to keep this anymore.

Jing Zhi...

You can't blame me for being ruthless.

You can't blame Jing Fan for harming you either.

If you must blame someone...

you can only blame yourself for being born into the royal family of Xuanji.

Since you were born, you should have known that...

your path could only be a struggle between life and death.

A fight for survival.

Of course, I know that fake Divine Physician wasn't the one who hurt you.

I also know that...

you died a wrongful death.

But what does it matter?

The queen's headdress has always been stained with blood.

You were my flesh and blood, who I carried to full term.

How could I have wanted you dead?

But...

you were destined to such an ill fate.

You heard something you weren't supposed to hear.

It wasn't that I couldn't trust you.

I just don't believe in the eroded minds of Xuanji's royal family.

The throne...

Only one person can sit upon it.

Although you were a few years older than your sister...

in terms of strategic planning, craftiness, and ruthlessness...

you were no match for Jing Fan.

The throne... is a cage.

It's bait.

It baits you into killing each other and risking your own life!

Whoever laughs last becomes...

the most prestigious of all in Xuanji.

You should consider yourself lucky.

Your only competitor was Feng Jing Fan.

Otherwise...

you may not have made it this far.

If you can understand my efforts

you should watch over your mother from Heaven.

Let me sit on this throne for much longer.

Let me sit on this throne more firmly.

What exactly is this about?

Speak!

There are irregular symptoms in your upper and lower body.

- It seems-- - What kind of illness is this?

It's...

It looks like poisoning.

Nonsense!

The Queen of Xuanji could never be poisoned!

Your Majesty is wrong.

We're all mere mortals.

We're not immune to poisons and misfortunes.

You're all dismissed.

The Phoenix Elixir Pill protects my health.

No poison in the five kingdoms can cause me harm.

The Phoenix Elixir Pill is said to be a miraculous medicine.

But not all that's said about the pill is true.

I believe Your Majesty should know that better than I do.

Besides, poison from Qiongcang can't be cured by just any medication.

You...

How dare you poison me?

You're so despicable.

What is your motive?

I'd actually like to ask about Your Majesty's motive

for putting on act, poisoning yourself and causing panic in the kingdom?

Your Majesty, you needn't panic.

You were just mildly poisoned.

It won't cost you your life.

You'll just be in bad shape.

You're the crown prince of the Imperial City

and the future emperor of the five kingdoms.

You shouldn't be doing this.

You've colluded with villains to harm the Queen of Xuanji.

Should this be made known to the Imperial City...

your father will punish you for it.

Any throne in the other kingdoms can be fought for.

But only the throne of Xuanji belongs to the destined queen.

If the Imperial City finds out about the abnormalities in Xuanji

if they hear that the lava river will soon run dry

and that you shouldn't be on the throne in the first place...

then who do you think will be punished?

Do you think that I'd do nothing after you set my woman up?

Fu Yao means more to me than my own life.

A word from her matters more than your shining spears and armored horses!

If I can't even protect the woman I love

how could I possibly protect the five kingdoms?

Your Majesty.

You're a clever woman.

You must've guessed my intentions.

I only put up with your actions for one reason.

I need to know exactly what happened in the palace of Xuanji 19 years ago!

In your dreams.

Meng Shuo!

He's going to hurt me!

Kill him.

Kill him right away!

I just want to know the truth!

Kill him, quickly! Right now!

Who knew...

that even you would betray me?

Kill me then.

Rather than being poisoned by them

I might as well be killed by your sword, Meng Shuo.

Where exactly are they?

Go ahead.

Step aside.

Princess, you're not allowed in here.

This treacherous woman is highly skilled.

What are we to do if you get wounded?

That woman is a felon.

Upon the the queen's orders, she must be executed right away.

How dare you hold me back?

Bring that treacherous woman out here now!

She...

She escaped!

What?

Useless scum!

Can't you even keep watch over one person?

Shouldn't you be looking for her?

You must find her, even if you have to flip this place upside down!

Yes!

My dear disciple!

Stop it.

Mentor?

No one is allowed to hurt Fu Yao.

Mentor, why can't I?

She's just a wench!

Do you know the consequences of defying me?

Do you still remember the name of this sword?

The Big Dipper Sword.

The seven stars consist of the Tian Xuan star and Yu Heng star...

There's you... and me.

I used all the resources in Xuanji to craft this sword for you.

Who knew that today...

you'd try to hurt me with it twice?

Meng Shuo...

You can choose to reject or ignore me.

You can even betray me!

However...

you have to believe that I meant to treat you well.

You can't see all these years of my affection for you as a lie!

I don't want to kill anyone!

This is the last time.

Just this once.

If you just kill him...

I promise to tell you everything you want to know.

They...

They're just using you.

I'm the only one who truly cares for you.

Kill him.

Then I'll tell you the truth.

I'm afraid it's already too late.

Senior.

Take a good look at her.

Fu Yao... she should be your daughter.

Fu...

Because she's...

She's...

Feng...

Wu...

Ming.

Is what he said true?

Is it true?

Tell me.

Where exactly are my wife and daughter?

After all these years, is my affection nothing compared to a stranger's words?

Who isn't capable of spewing nonsense?

They went to such lengths to rob me of my throne.

First, they killed my eldest daughter, Feng Jing Zhi!

And now, they've poisoned me.

They even spew such nonsense to drive a wedge between us!

They even brought a fake daughter for you!

Can't you tell?

They're just using you!

Why should I believe you?

Because your daughter...

died a long time ago.

I know you feel bad for your daughter.

I couldn't bring myself to tell you.

I was afraid you'd give up on life... after losing hope.

Meng Shuo...

I'm the only one in the world who cares about you.

Even if you begrudge or hate me

I don't want you to get hurt!

But little did I expect that they'd--

They'd actually use this to set me up.

And hurt you!

How can anyone with such malicious intent be allowed to live?

I'd rather...

be poisoned to death because there's no antidote.

I still want you to kill them!

Kill these two liars!

Senior.

I promised you that if she really is your daughter...

all I want is for the two of you to be reunited.

This is my answer.

And my promise to you.

Now that it has come to this, you can choose whether or not to believe us.

But I must remind you...

that as long as I live, no one can hurt Fu Yao.

I have a way to prove whether she's really Feng Qi's child.

Speak!

Open up the incense cauldron.

Burn the gallbladder of the phoenix!

It's the ancient way of verifying kinship.

Mentor?

Mentor, is that you?

Mentor!

Why have you brought me here?

Mentor!

Please do me a favor!

Just a small favor.

Kill Fu Yao for me.

Kill her.

Don't you wish to kill her too?

When did I ever want to kill Fu Yao?

I can kill everyone in the world.

But... I won't kill her.

Mentor, even you'd protect her?

She's just a wench that should've died 19 years ago!

Just a wench!

Why do all of you risk everything to protect her?

Why?

Mentor, kill her for me.

Do me a favor.

Please?

Do me a favor.

Do you really not know the reason?

It's stated in the ancient tradition of Xuanji Kingdom.

When verifying the kinship of a royal descendant

a hair from both parent and child must be attained

and placed into the lunar cauldron to be burned with a phoenix's gallbladder.

It says here that after the phoenix's gallbladder burns out

the lunar cauldron will glow red

if the two of you are truly royal descendants of Xuanji.

If you aren't or if the two of you aren't related

a black mist will shroud the cauldron, without dispersing.

This is an ancient tradition of Xuanji's royal family.

There can be no mistake.

You...

How dare you deceive Meng Shuo!

Look!

Look at this!

Why would I lie to you?

They're the ones who have been deceiving you!

Your Feng Qi is dead.

So is your daughter!

Meng Shuo, I'm all you have left!

Meng Shuo...

As long as they live, Xuanji Kingdom will no longer be ours!

Wu Ji!

Listen...

Under Purple Phoenix River

there lives an auspicious Phoenix of Flames.

Only the heir apparent of Xuanji

who carries the divine sign of the phoenix can summon it.

I...

I was born with a lotus in my mouth.

I'm the sole heir to Xuanji Kingdom's throne.

I carry the divine sign of the phoenix.

I can help you, Mentor!

I've waited far too long

to awaken this Phoenix of Flames.

It's my greatest blessing if I can be of any help to you!

After you accomplish what you came here for, Mentor...

I'll kill Fu Yao.

She must not live!

She must die!

Fu Yao...

She'll eventually have to die.

But as for when and how she dies, I'll be the one to decide.

Mentor, you're right!

Her life is completely in your hands!

Only you can decide!

As long as you're willing to kill Fu Yao

I'll do anything you want!

I...

I'll summon the auspicious Phoenix of Flames for you now.

Come out now.

Show yourself.

Come out here now!

Show yourself!

Young lad, I don't care that you're vying for the throne!

I don't mind that you can't help me!

But you lied to me and used me!

You asked for it!

Senior, when you trained at Qiongcang

did you learn about what the phoenix in Purple Phoenix River is guarding?

What are you trying to say?

If the queen on Xuanji's throne doesn't have the divine sign of the phoenix

and can't suppress Purple Phoenix River

the Phoenix of Flames will soar and bring great calamity!

Xuanji Kingdom won't be the only place to be wiped out!

Who exactly are you?

That doesn't matter.

What matters is that you must know...

she really is your daughter.

You're lying to me.

You're all lying to me!

All of you deceived me!

Fu Yao!

Come out here, quickly!

Come out here! Come out here now!

Mentor, trust me!

You must trust me!

Don't waste your energy.

You're well aware of whether or not you can summon the Phoenix of Flames.

I can! I can!

I was born with the lotus!

I am the sole heir.

Trust me, Mentor!

I can do this!

- You're not the true heir of Xuanji. - I am!

You're just a useless counterfeit.

A counterfeit?

I'm not a counterfeit!

I am the true heir!

I'm not some counterfeit...

If I'm not the real heir of Xuanji, then who is?

Who is it?

Who truly carries the divine sign of the phoenix?

Who?

Her spell is being triggered again.

This altar is the one place in Xuanji that gathers spiritual forces.

The third tier of her spell can be lifted here.

The true heir of Xuanji Kingdom has appeared.

Who is it?

It's Fu Yao.

Do you believe me now?

"The divine phoenix of Xuanji rises from the flames."

It turns out...

that blood runs in the flames.

This phoenix...

is the Queen of Xuanji Kingdom.

You're the true heir of Xuanji Kingdom.

You're my...

flesh and blood.

The day has finally come.

I remember everything now.

I was...

I was born in the palace of Xuanji.

They called me the princess who was born with a lotus in her mouth.

I was born in the winter.

The lotuses had withered, but they blossomed when I was born.

You have sinned.

Being born into the royal family is your sin!

From the moment you were born, you were destined to meet a tragic end.

Did you come here to quarrel with me?

Listen.

The throne is mine.

Yu Heng is mine too.

You can't take him from me.

Our daughter hasn't been named yet.

I must stay till he comes home.

You won't be able to do that.

[Xu Wan, palace maid of the Laundry Bureau]

The person who saved me was called Xu Wan.

She was my mother's personal maid.

I only found out later that she stayed with me

in the narrow secret chamber between the walls

for seven days, just to hide from the search in the palace.

She told me to forget my identity.

From that day forth, I'd be Wu Ming. (Meaning "anonymous.")

Xu Wan was later relocated to the Cold Palace.

Are you the newcomer, Wan?

All of the toughest and tiring chores...

Come here.

She had to endure it all alone.

Open up!

However hard life was for us...

she used every means possible to keep me hidden.

- Wan... - She protected me from harm.

If you still want to keep that child hidden...

So as to keep our secret safe...

she endured unbearable humiliation.

You better do as I say.

Back then...

the lotus pond behind the Cold Palace was the only place I could go.

It was also the only place I could let my guard down.

It was that day...

that I met him.

Who are you?

He was more handsome than anyone I'd ever met.

He was cleaner than any lotus I'd seen.

I thought to myself...

that he must be the most brilliant gift that the gods had ever sent.

How are you? Are you all right?

Are you cold?

Let's go.

I didn't know how long those happy days would last.

Whether they'd last a moment.

Or a lifetime.

But I knew...

that he was the one who gave me hope.

He made me realize there's still happiness in life

that's worth fighting for.

What is this?

This is called the Leaf of Spiritual Elixir.

I've always worn it.

You can have it.

Just see it as a token of our friendship.

No one has ever given me a gift.

I have to leave Xuanji Kingdom tomorrow.

Would you come with me?

What does that mean?

I want to leave, but I can't bear to leave Auntie Wan behind.

We can take her with us then.

Crown Prince!

I have to go.

It's a deal then.

Wait for me here at dawn tomorrow.

We'll leave together then.

When he said that he'd take me with him...

I really thought that those dark days were finally over.

Who knew...

that I'd end up being the one to break our promise and not show up?

Give it to me.

I won't.

Will you give it to me or not?

I know how to make you hand it over.
