[Legend of Fuyao]

[Episode 56]

Quickly!

It was really a coincidence.

Feng Xuan and Feng Qi conceived around the same time

and even gave birth on the same day.

They each gave birth to a child at the same time.

It's said that when Feng Xuan gave birth to her daughter

her daughter was born with a lotus in her mouth.

It was an extremely auspicious sign.

It was then that there was a divine sighting at Purple Phoenix River.

So everyone believed that the child born with the lotus

carried the divine sign of the phoenix.

Hence, Feng Xuan was anointed as the eldest princess.

Soon afterwards, Feng Qi died abruptly.

Feng Xuan naturally inherited the throne.

Who exactly was the child born with a lotus in her mouth?

It's Fo Lian.

But Fo Lian isn't even conferred as an heir apparent.

She's restrained in every way.

Why is that?

Because after Feng Xuan succeeded the throne

she altered Xuanji's laws on inheritance.

It was changed to anoint the first legal-born daughter as the heir apparent.

That doesn't make any sense.

It really doesn't.

If Fo Lian really is the destined successor...

why would Feng Xuan alter the laws?

Unless... Fo Lian isn't Feng Xuan's daughter.

Or...

Or... neither of her daughters carry the divine sign of the phoenix.

Feng Qi also gave birth to a child then.

It's a pity...

That child wasn't fortunate.

She didn't survive.

Was she Feng Wu Ming?

Could it be that Feng Wu Ming carried the divine sign of the phoenix?

I suspected that too.

But everyone who knows of the matter has died.

Judging by what you deduced...

there must be a secret behind Feng Xuan's succession of the throne.

It's such a pity.

Feng Wu Ming is dead too.

No.

She must be alive.

Oh?

I saw it on the royal family tree.

The phoenix of the living is marked to soar

while the phoenix of the dead is marked to turn into ashes.

Only Feng Wu Ming is marked as neither alive nor dead.

Didn't you say that...

Feng Wu Ming's father, Meng Shuo, is alive?

Yes, judging from the family tree, he's still alive.

Could it be...

Since they were children, Feng Qi and Feng Xuan were always close.

But they started having conflicts because of Meng Shuo.

Do you know who Meng Shuo is?

One of the Ten Saints, Yu Heng...

That's him.

I never thought it could be him.

The Ten Saints of the five kingdoms are highly skilled warriors.

Only Yu Heng is an all-round genius

who is also well-read in historical records.

He's also the most charming and good-looking of the Ten Saints.

It is indeed so.

Back then, Yu Heng was extremely famous and popular.

Which noble lady from the royal family didn't like him?

Does that include Feng Qi and Feng Xuan?

He's the descendant of an aristocratic family in Xuanji.

He often visited the palace since he was a child.

He and Feng Qi fell for each other at a young age.

They were childhood sweethearts and shared a mutual affection.

Yu Heng later represented Xuanji in the competition of the Ten Saints.

He became one of the Ten Saints.

So he was then known as Yu Heng of Xuanji.

He was a famous warrior and renowned across the five kingdoms.

But Feng Xuan had always been in love with him.

Where is Yu Heng now?

After Feng Qi died, he left.

No one knows where he went.

What matters now is that Feng Xuan is severely ill

and probably won't survive for long.

Right now, Feng Jing Zhi is in charge of the royal court.

I think that Fo Lian, Feng Jing Fan, won't just sit on the sidelines.

Xuanji Kingdom is now on the verge of destruction.

Does this mean...

there's going to be trouble at Purple Phoenix River?

There's an auspicious phoenix guarding Purple Phoenix River.

It's said that the phoenix is guarding a malicious force within the river.

If Xuanji Kingdom falls to chaos

and Feng Xuan fails to suppress the force in Purple Phoenix River

causing the phoenix to fly away, then the five kingdoms will be doomed.

After my wife died an unfair death, I'm as good as the living dead.

Neither status nor wealth matters to me anymore.

Now that Xuanji Kingdom is in danger

I can't do nothing to help while Xuanji is on the verge of destruction.

I hope that Crown Prince Wu Ji can do what I'm helpless in doing.

For the sake of the five kingdoms and our descendants

please save Xuanji Kingdom.

This way, please.

Young Master Tang is the descendant of loyal officials and a great talent.

Your Highness, please feel free to have him do your bidding

and train him.

Thank you, Commandery Prince Wu.

Don't see us out.

Just see us out here.

If I'm guessing right

your surname isn't Tang, but Feng.

Your Highness, you really do know all.

After Feng Xuan inherited the throne

my father's other siblings all died in accidents, one after another.

None of them survived.

My father fell into great despair.

He lived as a recluse for years.

My mother was originally the daughter of Elder Statesman Jing.

I concealed my identity and entered Leading Phoenix Chamber.

It's my duty to attend to the royal family's affairs.

But I refuse to become the executioner of the five kingdoms.

Only by stopping Her Majesty in time can we prevent any bloodshed in Xuanji.

That's why I hope that Your Highness can intervene.

You mean... you're the one who sent a letter to Wu Ji

in hopes that he'd come to Xuanji?

I never sent any letters.

What is that about?

That doesn't matter anymore.

Our priority now is finding out just how many secrets Feng Xuan is hiding.

There's one other person in the palace who knows more of Her Majesty's secrets.

It's just that he's always difficult to track down.

He's very hard to approach.

There are two teams who take orders directly from Feng Xuan.

One is the Leading Phoenix Chamber that I'm in charge of.

The other is a shadow that never appears before anyone.

All these years, he has done many heinous deeds for Her Majesty.

He is extremely skilled.

No ordinary man is a match for him.

Could the man you're talking about be Yu Heng?

Only by tracking him down can we confirm that.

There's another favor I'd like to ask of you.

Your Highness, please do tell.

We have to take a look at Purple Phoenix River.

Don't blame me for being ruthless.

I've racked my brain and drained every efforts to get all that I have.

There's many a slip between the cup and the lip.

But you happened to overhear us.

No one is allowed to destroy my plans.

Even my own children!

They've finally walked into my trap, step by step.

Mentor... your wish will soon be fulfilled.

Please bless me along the way, Mentor.

Let them go on a journey of no return.

Mentor...

You've done very well.

But you mustn't put her life in danger.

Mentor...

I'll do as you wish.

This is the very bottom of Purple Phoenix River.

Be careful.

This... this is a really strange place.

There isn't a sound to be heard here.

I can't even hear the cry of the phoenix.

Serenity makes everything unpredictable.

What is that?

That's where the real lava river is.

You...

Look.

Over there.

The Phoenix of Flames.

Where is it? Why can't I see it?

It's right there.

It's right over there.

Look from my angle.

Look!

I can't see it either.

What did you say?

You can see it too?

This--

You've returned!

You gave me such a fright!

I thought you'd had an accident!

What could possibly happen to us?

Watch out!

I'm all right.

That's Feng Xuan's Shadow.

It's him again. I'll go after him.

Stay here.

Stay here. I'll go help him.

Be careful!

Senior Meng Shuo!

Please halt!

Auntie Wan! Auntie Wan!

Let go of me!

Let go of me!

Let go of me!

Let go of me!

Don't hurt her!

Let go of her!

Auntie Wan!

Don't! Let go of me!

Auntie Wan!

How dare you defy orders!

Please don't hurt her!

Auntie Wan!

This is...

Fu Yao.

You killed my sister?

- I... - How dare you!

You killed my sister!

So you had an ulterior motive, disguising yourself as Divine Physician.

Now, you've been caught red-handed after killing the princess.

Fu Yao...

You came all the way to Xuanji Kingdom

just to add cheer to this show I've staged.

This really... is such great fun.

It was you.

You set me up.

"Set you up?"

You're the one who killed her.

You're even holding the knife.

Aren't you the one who killed her?

You pretended to be the Divine Physician to approach my mother

so as to poison her.

You planned and schemed every step of the way.

You even killed my sister today.

It's a shame that she was so fond of you.

She was really so...

pathetic.

How sorrowful.

Don't waste your energy.

From the day you accepted that jade scepter from me

you walked right into my trap.

It will be hard to walk out of it now.

You--

You poisoned me?

Poison?

How would poison go unnoticed by Crown Prince Wu Ji?

All I did was ask my mentor to tamper with the scepter.

How could mortals like you know the difference?

I...

I'm going to take back everything you took from me.

Be it identity, status... Right, and Wu Ji...

They were mine to begin with.

They were mine!

They were mine, Feng Jing Fan's!

Fo Lian...

Feng Jing Fan...

Feng Jing Fan?

I'm begging you!

I always knew who you were.

I knew since you were born that you were born a temptress.

You should've died a long time ago!

I should have killed you then!

Why did we let a troublemaker alive?

Why did I let you live and become a huge hindrance to me and Wu Ji?

You...

You stole the person I love most.

You stole what I cherished most for over 10 years.

You robbed me of what mattered most to me all these years!

You should have died in that Cold Palace, shrouded in darkness.

You.. Why did you... have to harm us?

Why did you harm us?

You deserve it.

This is retribution.

Your retribution.

Listen.

That woman is called Xu Wan.

Saving you was her fault.

She never should've let a troublemaker like you live.

That's why she deserved to die.

Don't hurt her!

Who exactly am I?

Who exactly am I?

Who am I?

Who exactly am I?

Who exactly am I?

Who are you?

You are...

You're the murderer who killed the princess of Xuanji.

You won't make it there in time!

That's not up to you to decide!

That bell chimes when someone in Xuanji is killed.

What's done is done.

You can't undo it.

You won't make it in time.

That's not up to you to decide.

You can save her.

Make a deal with me.

Who exactly am I?

Why would you frame me?

You must've been in disguise too long...

You've forgotten who you really are.

Fine...

I'll tell you right now.

This person isn't the Divine Physician, Zong Yue.

I met the real Doctor Zong in Tianquan Kingdom.

I've also met...

I've also met this treacherous woman who defied her superiors.

The emperor gave orders to have her killed then.

Who knew that she'd come to Xuanji?

Is this true?

She's the one who killed my sister.

I saw it!

She had the knife in her hand!

She killed her!

She said that Crown Prince Wu Ji mustn't marry any of Xuanji's princesses.

She said that Crown Prince Wu Ji belonged to her.

Why would you do that?

I didn't kill anyone.

Nor did I harm anyone.

Who is the real murderer?

Who is guilty of the crime?

Your Majesty...

Don't you know it well enough?

Don't worry.

I'll throw you a grand funeral.

I'll announce to the world that you died of fatigue

because you worried too much about the kingdom and the world.

However...

what should I do to convince the officials in the royal court?

Mother.

Who is it?

It's me.

What are you doing here?

How should you be punished for leaving your quarters?

I brought the new sutras I transcribed.

I wanted to help you clear and nourish your mind.

But right before my eyes...

Mother seems to have gotten into trouble again.

I'm afraid this book of sutras won't be enough...

How dare you!

- Mother. - What are you implying?

I'm willing to share your burdens.

No matter what I saw, you should know very well

that I'm always on your side, Mother.

I mean it.

I happen to have a perfect solution.

Get up and tell me.

I'm concerned about you, Mother, so I wanted to ask Divine Physician Zong Yue

to help you recuperate properly.

But when I saw the Divine Physician...

I thought that something was amiss.

That doctor is actually Fu Yao, the one who framed me in Tianquan!

She isn't the Divine Physician!

She has malicious intent and plotted her way here.

Mother, do you know why she snuck into Xuanji Kingdom?

Why?

Because...

It's because...

Just say it.

It's because she's...

She's...

Feng...

Wu...

Ming.

Why didn't you tell me sooner?

I just found out and came to report it to you immediately.

They look alike...

They really do look alike.

Mother, don't worry.

It will be fine once we get rid of her, once and for all.

We have justified cause.

Fu Yao disguised herself as the Divine Physician

with malicious intentions.

She assassinated the princess.

She should be executed.

Atrocious woman!

The evidence is irrefutable.

How dare you make up excuses!

This woman disguised herself as the Divine Physician.

She harbored malicious intentions.

She assassinated the princess!

She should be executed!

Hold on.

I don't care, even if you pin all these crimes on me.

But I can't die without answers.

Tell me who I really am, Feng Jing Fan!

You--

"Who you are?"

Fine...

Miss Fu Yao...

You must've been blinded by your greed and desires.

I'll be sure to chant sutras for you to guide you out of purgatory.

I'll dispel the malicious aura from you.

Your Majesty.

The eldest princess was assassinated.

All of Xuanji Kingdom is in deep sorrow.

But Xuanji Kingdom is in a precarious situation now.

The kingdom mustn't go a day without an heir apparent.

Therefore, we'd like to ask you to anoint Princess Fo Lian as the eldest princess

so as to appease the people.

No...

We should avenge my sister first.

After punishing this murderer...

We'll discuss this matter then.

Any rewards and punishments...

shall be decided by Mother.

Crown Prince Wu Ji has arrived!

Your Majesty, why wasn't I informed

when something so terrible happened?

Your Majesty.

This woman, who assassinated the eldest princess

is indeed an impostor.

But Crown Prince Wu Ji, you brought her here

and recommended her to Your Majesty.

Does this mean that...

His Highness harbors a certain intention towards Xuanji?

As a matter of fact, we have treated you fairly well.

In this year of calamity

when the Imperial City is plagued by disease

we even delivered 30 carts of gold to you.

We've never owed you a annual tribute.

We'd rather cut our expenses

to protect the spending of the Imperial City.

In terms of loyalty

Xuanij Kingdom has always given its very best.

We don't expect you to remember our efforts

but at the least, you shouldn't stab us in the back.

Should Your Highness hold a certain prejudice against us

you might as well speak your mind.

Why use someone else?

- Your Majesty-- - Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

I impersonated Zong Yue on my own accord.

- You-- - It has nothing to do with him.

If you must punish someone, just punish me.

If you acted alone... then you should bear the consequences alone.

- Guards. - Yes!

Imprison this assassin who disguised herself as the Divine Physician

in Sunset Dungeon.

She is to be closely monitored!

Yes!

You--

Your Majesty.

This case is still highly questionable.

I'd like to have a word with Your Majesty in private.

Please agree to it.

I have yet to recover from my illness.

Right now, I'm mentally exhausted.

Please excuse me, Crown Prince.

We'll discuss your issue another day.

Take care, Your Majesty.

[Ruichen Palace]

Counting the days...

I've been taking the Gold Blister Beetle juice for almost a month.

Is there a problem?

Rest assured, Your Majesty.

The decoction I made with the juice has only one-third of its poisonous effect.

Master Yu Heng even measured the dose himself.

It definitely won't cause damage to your organs.

Not to mention the pills that Divine Physician Zong gave you.

There isn't much residual poison in Your Majesty's body.

What "Divine Physician Zong"?

She's just a lying impostor.

Yes.

Listen up.

The poisonous Gold Blister Beetle juice was fed to me by villains

in hopes of causing damage to Xuanji Kingdom.

It has nothing to do with Yu Heng.

I didn't have anything to do with it either.

Do you understand?

I...

I've always kept my lips sealed.

I don't dare to utter a word about carrying out this task for Your Majesty.

As long as you remember that.

Get up.

You've done well. Your reward will be delivered to your residence soon.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

That man... is of no use to me now.

Who exactly am I?

I told you to kill him.

I didn't tell you to do it right away!

An old man is dead outside Ruichen Palace now!

This is so inauspicious!

All right.

I'm just saying.

It's not that I really blame you.

The work is done.

I'll head back now.

Why?

Look at me.

Look at me.

Take a good look at me.

I obviously look just like her.

Why can't I be the one you love?

Tell me.

Why?

You're not her.

You never will be.

What a pity.

I'm the one who gets to decide whether she lives or dies.

Finally, you couldn't hold back from trying to kill me.

You've served me for 19 years.

If you really wanted to take my life, I'd have died thousands of times.

Killing me...

is a piece of cake.

Sadly...

You can't bear to kill me.

You can't bear to kill me, nor can you give up on looking

for your wife and daughter.

If I die...

you'll never be able to find them.

Isn't that right?

You've become such a tyrant.

You took innocent lives to seize power.

Yet pathetically, I've become that brutal sword you wield.

The filth and blood on me may never wash away.

What are the living dead like?

What is a dead heart?

Take a look! Take a good look!

Did you really think I'd trust you?

You forced me to make a blood oath to you.

You forced me to help you seize power and take lives.

You forced me into becoming what I am today.

Yet you still claim that you'll find them for me.

I'm afraid you'd rather conceal the truth and take it to your grave

than tell me, right?

Even so, you asked for it!

Who told you to choose Feng Qi instead of me?

In terms of appearance...

she and I are identical.

In terms of knowledge and talent

I was never inferior to her.

I surpassed her by far in the strategic mind a monarch should have!

It's been so long!

Yet you've never stopped loving her!

Why?

Why should I let you live happily?

I don't wish to go on living.

Since life is so sorrowful, we'll just die together!

Your daughter isn't dead.

Where is she?

Where on earth is she?

Don't be so impatient.

Tomorrow, after I execute the murderer who killed my daughter...

I'll tell you everything, including where your wife and daughter are.

Fine.

I'll be waiting.

Lass!

I'm sorry.

You've suffered.

I'll take you away.

Hold on.

I can't leave yet.

I don't want to leave either.

I've already figured it out.

I won't spare those who harmed you.

I don't wish to leave because...

Do you remember that I was looking for a phoenix emblem?

I seem to have seen it when I was a child.

But I can't remember where I saw it.

Although Fo Lian framed me for murder

it actually triggered me some of my past memories.

They're still very vague.

So I'd like to stay here to see if I can figure out my past.

Maybe I'll remember who I really am.

I'll help you.

I also found out about certain matters.

I can roughly make out the secret behind the royal family of Xuanji.

Perhaps your identity is closely related to the secret of this palace.

We have to start from here.

But if we're looking for the truth, we'll need to ask someone for help.

Who?

Yu Heng.

He's a veteran in this palace.

As Feng Xuan's Shadow

he knows more about this palace than anyone else.

Why would he help us?

I made a deal with him.

As long as I find his wife and daughter

he'll offer us his assistance in the palace

and restrain Feng Xuan as much as he can.
