[Legend of Fuyao]

[Episode 54]

What is going on?

Help!

Your Highness, that lass is the worker from Purple Phoenix River.

Help!

Kill her.

Is there anyone else in the family?

The Li family is an influential family.

The son's wedding was today.

There should be two more people in the manor.

We can't spare anyone.

Go! Hurry up!

You're indeed a beauty.

The trip was worthwhile.

I've long heard that Old Master Li's daughter-in-law is fair and beautiful.

Brothers, we'll all get to have some fun today!

I'm begging you!

Please!

I beg you not to do it!

Please!

My dear!

My dear!

My dear!

Come here, my beauty!

No one will come, even if you yell your heart out!

If you take this pill, it will enhance your powers rapidly

but once you take it, you can only

use your vital force for the next 30 days.

You mustn't engage in combat.

Quickly!

No!

Fu Yao...

Don't come any closer!

Don't come any closer!

Filthy blood!

You have such great martial arts skills!

Why did you hide like a coward when all of the Li family was killed?

You sit upon our main hall!

My father-in-law presented you with fine wine!

Yet it's like he fed it to a stray dog!

You have such great martial arts skills!

Why did you hide like a coward when all of the Li family was killed?

You sit upon our main hall!

My father-in-law presented you with fine wine!

Yet it's like he fed it to a straw dog!

You chose your family over strangers.

It's human nature.

Why should you be blamed?

You put yourself at risk to save her.

You helped her out of righteousness.

How are you in the wrong?

How should I pamper you?

However much I pamper you, I never think it's enough.

Never enough.

Is this your fate?

You have to be burdened with more pain than anyone else.

And torment.

Just to have a moment's peace.

So many in this world are driven by personal gain.

Only you'd be disgusted by such matters and even reproach yourself for it.

It wasn't your fault.

You shouldn't be burdened with such pain.

It isn't fair.

Lass!

You're awake?

You're awake?

Here.

Fu Yao! You finally woke up.

You really scared me yesterday.

Are you all right?

All my life...

I've made mistakes...

I've lost...

and been defeated.

But I've never done anything that weighed on my conscience.

Looking back, how am I any different...

from those cold-blooded and despicable men?

Righteousness doesn't stand a chance before selfishness.

The whole Li family died because of me.

It's all because of me.

It's all because of me...

All right now.

It's over.

Lass.

We mustn't be afraid to take responsibility

or to bear the consequences.

But there's no need to keep carrying such pain.

All right?

Some things are like this.

It's hard to determine what matters more.

I can only choose between what hurts and what hurts more.

I'm so fortunate... to have met you in this life.

So am I.

It's all right now.

Everything's all right now.

Last night's massacre was really suspicious.

The royal family of Xuanji is using any means possible

to cover up a huge secret.

What exactly happened to Purple Phoenix River?

We don't have a clue.

Xuanji Kingdom has long been the polaris of the five kingdoms.

It maintains peace throughout the lands.

Xuanji Kingdom must not descend into chaos.

It's time to meet the monarch of Xuanji.

It's only been a few days, but there are already so many urgent reports.

Xuanji's state affairs are categorized into three grades.

There's the order of priority and difference in ranks.

It's quite impressive to even get two or three urgent reports.

Now, this is great.

You've brought in so many troublesome matters.

This...

Why isn't anyone answering me?

Don't you usually have so many opinions?

Why are all of you so quiet now?

The Queen is severely ill.

I'm handling all state affairs on her behalf.

Am I not qualified?

Or do you object to the Queen's decree?

We wouldn't dare!

You're all dismissed.

Crown Prince Wu Ji sent someone to deliver his calling card.

Crown Prince Wu Ji?

[Shangyang]

For the past 10 years

Tianquan and Xuanji only interacted through letters.

There's neither calamity nor a formal invitation from our kingdom.

Why would he visit so abruptly?

The messenger said that he came to visit Her Majesty.

He also brought the Divine Physician, Zong Yue

to see to Her Majesty's illness.

Oh?

Your Highness, there's also a confidential letter.

Crown Prince Wu Ji said that you have to read it personally.

Your Highness?

It turns out that we already met Crown Prince Wu Ji that day.

The pale-faced scholar you nearly arrested by mistake

is the Divine Physician, Zong Yue.

The man who helped him get away was Crown Prince Wu Ji.

Could it be...

that they came here to ask for an explanation?

Now you're nervous?

Why didn't you look more carefully before you went after the wrong man?

How could Crown Prince Wu Ji's friend look like a coin minter?

I was too ignorant.

Your Highness, please punish me!

But I still find it quite fishy.

Could it be...

that they heard some rumors?

Could it be... about Purple Phoenix River?

We can only roll with the punches now.

Convey my orders.

He's the Crown Prince after all.

He should be received with the proper etiquette.

We must follow regulations.

But at the same time, not a word is to be uttered

about what must remain concealed.

Yes.

All right, I'll take them to visit my mother now.

I'd like to see what those two are up to.

Your Highness.

Her Majesty has become even weaker today.

She's even refused to take her medication just now.

Who came to visit?

It was...

It was the second princess.

Didn't I say that

she can't go anywhere without my permission?

She's especially not allowed near Ruichen Palace.

How dare you let her in here?

You must be sick of living.

I summoned her here.

That must be the Divine Physician?

Crown Prince Wu Ji is here too.

Crown Prince, I should welcome you to Xuanji Kingdom personally.

But I'm suffering from a serious illness

so I'm too pallid.

I really can't get on my feet.

Crown Prince, please don't take it to heart.

Your Majesty, it must've caused you inconvenience since I came uninvited.

Now, all of Xuanji Kingdom's state affairs are handled

by my eldest daughter, Feng Jing Zhi.

Crown Prince, if there's anything you need

feel free to have her do your bidding.

Jing Zhi.

I'm right here.

His Highness is Xuanji Kingdom's most prestigious guest.

He must be treated with the highest of hospitality.

You mustn't overlook any details.

Mother, do rest assured.

Thank you for your hospitality, Your Majesty.

Since you're ill, I'll leave Zong Yue to attend to your illness.

I'll take my leave.

Why didn't you kneel upon seeing me?

Your Majesty, I'm not from Xuanji Kingdom.

I'm a guest you invited.

I've never heard of any guest in the five kingdoms having to kneel.

Come up here.

Accommodation has been arranged for Your Highness and Doctor Zong.

But as it's mostly women in the Inner Palace...

it could be a bit inconvenient for Your Highness and Doctor Zong.

So I specially arranged the accommodation to be

in the east quarters of the palace.

The quarters were tidied up and refurnished.

But it is further away from here.

Your Highness, please bear with it.

Thank you.

May I ask if the second princess is Fo Lian, who was once engaged to me?

She should've just remained as the queen's daughter.

But she likes to be called Princess Fo Lian.

Isn't that as good as announcing to the world

that she doesn't want to inherit the throne

and is eager to get married?

Good thing Your Highness is good at judging a person's character.

You could tell right away that Fo Lian isn't to be underestimated.

It's great for you and the Imperial City of Tianquan

that you broke off the engagement early on.

It seems that you and your sister are...

If it weren't for the sake of public opinion...

she'd be dead by now.

That girl has always been up to something bad.

Her existence is harmful to everyone.

Now that she no longer has Tianquan as her supporter...

she's just a nobody.

That's to say, when you inherit the throne...

Fo Lian will surely be killed.

Your Highness, do you feel bad for her?

Feel bad for her?

Your Highness, why do you think she was so eager to marry you?

Because she likes you?

She met you over 10 years ago and fell in love with you?

I don't believe that.

There's a rule in the royal family of Xuanji.

Once a new queen takes the throne, all female siblings who are single

must be executed in order to consolidate the queen's power.

Fo Lian was eager to marry you because she wanted to get married

and also because of your identity as Crown Prince of Tianquan.

Who doesn't know that the girl is arrogant and aims high?

She has always wanted to trample on me.

Don't you understand such motives?

I don't.

I don't believe that.

But none of that matters.

I have something else in mind.

Fo Lian isn't the only princess who can marry into Tianquan.

I could also tie the marital bond.

Isn't that so?

You only agreed to the engagement with Fo Lian

to secure the diplomatic ties between Tianquan and Xuanji.

Isn't the eldest princess of Xuanji even more suitable then?

If you say it never crossed your mind during this trip to Xuanji...

I really wouldn't believe you.

It's said that the eldest princess is remarkably intelligent.

Seeing is indeed believing.

Please do let me think this over.

There are a great many nobles who have proposed marriage.

Don't miss out on getting ahead of the game.

Young Mistress.

The person collecting the copies of the sutra is here.

These are the copies of the sutra I wrote today.

Take them to the temple and offer them for worship.

I hope to pray for my mother.

Hold on!

The order of the sutras, the direction they face

and where they are placed all matter greatly.

I don't think you'd know how to place them.

I'll do it myself.

What are you doing?

Young Mistress, A-Mei let you out of your quarters this morning

and was caned to death upon the eldest princess's orders.

None of them would dare to let you step out now.

A-Mei... was so unlucky.

But she can leave the misery of the mortal world sooner.

It was worth it to dote on her.

I've done a good deed.

Princess, please spare my life!

I don't wish to die!

Since you asked me for a favor

how can I bear to watch you suffer?

Since you won't let me out of here

tell me what's going on out there.

What's new in the palace lately?

Crown Prince Wu Ji of Tianquan...

Where is he now?

In my opinion, although Your Majesty's illness is severe

it isn't incurable.

Doctor, you have medication for it?

Of course.

I have a medicine that cleanses and clears out the meridians.

Your Majesty, you can have this first.

Then we can slowly nurse you back to health.

They're from the Leading Phoenix Chamber.

They're my most trusted personal guards.

I'm a queen who's severely ill and defenseless...

so I must cherish my life all the more.

Isn't that so?

Commander Tang!

Commander Tang!

Commander Tang, what's the matter?

Commander Tang!

Doctor Zong...

What do you mean by this?

Your Highness.

I'll be in charge of your daily routine here in the palace of Xuanji.

Should you have any requests, please feel free to ask me.

I'll be sure to do my very best.

Are you Nanny Hui, who used to attend to Fo Lian?

I came here with my father when I was 9 years old.

Weren't you the one in charge of looking after me then?

Indeed, it was me.

I didn't expect Your Highness to remember me after over 10 years.

I'm really flattered.

How can I forget that year in Xuanji?

Your Highness hasn't visited in so long.

I wonder if there's anywhere you'd like to visit.

I'll take you there.

I remember there was a lotus pond in the palace.

It was like a fairyland.

I wonder if the pond is still there?

Your Highness, to be honest with you, that lotus pond was sealed off years ago.

It's already deserted.

Is that so?

If it's possible, I'd still like to go see it.

Your Highness remembers the old times.

It's kind of you.

I'll take you there.

This way, please.

Your Majesty, fret not.

Wait and see.

Your Majesty, as I told you before...

The illness has affected your muscles.

An ordinary prescription won't be effective.

That's why I chose a much stronger medication.

Your Majesty, you should be able to ease your mind now.

How do you feel?

My meridians are flowing smoothly and my energy is normal.

This medicine isn't poisonous.

I'm Tang Yi Zhong of Xuanji Kingdom!

Indeed.

The Tang family has always provided the most trusted guards

of the Leading Phoenix Chamber.

Pick your reward on the way out.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Divine Physician.

You have such amazing medical skills and a benevolent heart.

You deserve to be rewarded handsomely.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Who are you?

Who are you?

Who are you?

Doctor, the badge you were given will allow you

to walk freely in the palace.

From now on, apart from a few restricted areas

you can go anywhere you please.

Little Wu Ji, come here!

Come here, quickly!

What's the matter?

I seem to have been here before.

Doctor, please halt.

If you keep going ahead, it's the restricted area.

Whoever trespasses will be executed.

What's over there?

I don't know either.

Doctor, please don't put us in a difficult position.

I'm over here!

I'm over here!

I'm here!

I'm right here!

Are you saying that Feng Xuan isn't ill from a serious disease

but from poisoning?

The pills I gave her today are the reserve antidote Zong Yue gave me.

I just wanted to muddle through by giving her those pills.

Who knew that the antidote would actually have an effect?

So she really was poisoned.

She was poisoned?

Tell me...

Who could have poisoned her?

I don't know yet.

What's that sound?

Xuanji Kingdom is located within the Yuge Mountain Range.

There are thousand-year-old karst caves everywhere.

This sound is made when wind blows through the karst caves.

But here in Xuanji Kingdom

it's also said to be the sound of the phoenix in Purple Phoenix River.

Will we hear this sound every day and night?

Legend has it that such a sound is heard only

when the Phoenix of Flames appears.

Ever since we arrived in Xuanji

there seem to be many things that I've seen before.

Including the sound of the phoenix.

Like I heard it in my dreams...

Listen.

Someone followed me today.

I fought with him and he was using Qiongcang's swordsmanship.

Qiongcang's swordsmanship?

I can't be mistaken.

He fought with stances that are obviously from Qiongcang.

He must be a heavy drinker too.

Before the force of his sword reached me, I caught a whiff of alcohol.

I think he was sent by Feng Xuan to see why we're visiting.

What exactly are they trying to conceal?

A man in black who trained in Qiongcang...

Feng Xuan is poisoned...

Purple Phoenix River is drying up.

I'm afraid that Xuanji will really be in trouble.

That must be the Little Phoenix Chamber?

It is.

All sorts of Xuanji's historical records are stored in it

as well as books on all political and military achievements.

All major events are documented and stored away.

Anything that happend in Xuanji is recorded and stored in it.

Every detail is recorded and can be found there.

Can it be said the Little Phoenix Chamber

counts as the most important place in Xuanji?

Of course.

The Little Phoenix Chamber is only opened twice a year

to update and document new records.

It's almost always closed for maintenance.

Not just anyone can go in there.

If I wish to take a look in there, would you be able to help me?

They're just some boring scrolls.

There's nothing to see.

Why would you want to go there?

I'm not worried that you'll tease me.

I've always been a boring man.

I'm just fond of reading.

The Little Phoenix Chamber is well known for its collection.

Now that it's right before my eyes

it would be such a shame if I couldn't visit.

According to regulations

whoever wishes to enter the Little Phoenix Chamber

needs my mother's written decree.

I know that as a mere commoner, it's just my wishful thinking.

Doctor!

It's not impossible to let you look in there.

You can't help me, can you?

Don't be disappointed, Doctor.

I can take you there.

Do you mean it?

Irrelevant personnel aren't allowed?

That's just a stupid regulation.

When I succeed the throne, I'll get rid of all these regulations.

Since the Little Phoenix Chamber is a library

everyone should be allowed to enter freely

to read whatever they want.

Then the efforts of those who wrote and collected the books won't go to waste.

You... Why are you looking at me like that?

Because you're pretty.

The Little Phoenix Chamber really needs to be cleaned up.

It smells of mold in here.

Over time, the books in here will rot.

What is that place?

That's the restricted area in the Little Phoenix Chamber.

I've never been there either.

The veterans of the palace said that it's guarded by the Phoenix of Flames.

The origins of Xuanji Kingdom's royal family are concealed in there.

Who is it?

It's a petal.

It's actually as pretty as you are.

We...
