claiming cellphone usage
as an excuse

to pull over and harass
people of color.

We believe that constituted
a pattern.

But again, you opted not to
present those in Staten Island.

We weren't confident about
the credibility of the witnesses

in these complaints
until more recently.

I've only been on this case
for 10 minutes,

but you're
the special prosecutor

and you're the one pushing
the calendar, Mr. Wallace.

If I've made
a mis‐step...

And now you actually want to
hold these men without bail?

I think that would send
a proper message to the people

Am I hearing you suggest
we should use bail

to send a public message

when you yourself were held
without bail for over a year

before a shred of evidence
was ever presented against you

in a courtroom?

I wasn't accused
of killing anybody.

"Accused" is the operative word,

As far as I know,
presumption of innocence

is still the law
of the land,

and it applies
to police officers, too.

So unless Mr. Wallace
really thinks

these men
who have families

are a flight risk,

he's saying
he wants to use bail

not only as a way
to send a message

but as a form
of punishment.

a murder charge stand

given your attempts to bias

with those

of a far more serious offense
