I'm so hungry my ribs
are touching my spine.

- I'm seriously considering
milking that cow.

I mean, how hard
can it be, right?

- Dude, do you even know which
end the milk comes out of?

[both laughing]

I wish you'd come.

- You know, I've found
that those prayer circles

usually end up just
being a gossip circle.

[footsteps approaching]

- Sup!

- [Grandma Sharon] Chloe, we
speak English in this house.

about your parents.

- I just came in to

- [Joy] I baked some muffins.

[footsteps departing]

- [Grandma Sharon]

[puppy whines]

is not so hot in the kitchen.

thing she's not so good at.

- Hey speak of the devil.

woman think she is,

acting all do-gooder
with her stupid muffins.

- Wait, did you say muffins?

- Yeah and you know what?

As soon as I walk out the door

she starts dissing
me behind my back.

- What, who's dissing you?

- Wait, wait, and
more importantly,
where are the muffins?

- They're in the trash, okay.

- Are you fighting with
your Grandma again?

- [Lucky] Why are the
muffins in the trash?

- Just stop, okay?

No, I'm not fighting with
my Grandma right now.

I just refuse to eat anything
that woman, Miss Joy, makes.

- Yeah, but don't take
it out on the muffins!

- Here, I have a solution.

- To be honest, I don't
know why the good Lord

has chosen me to be such a
big part of Chloe's life,

but as her grandmother
I'm going to do my best,

to bring her to the Lord.

At least until He comes back
again or He calls me home,

which ever comes first.

She's just my
diamond in the rough.

- I think you both
would be better off

if somebody else was
taking care of her.

- [sighs] Well, Miss Joy,

I surely do appreciate
you taking time out

of your busy day for a visit,

but I'm sure you have more
important things to do

and people just dying to
hear those pearls of wisdom

you so freely share.

- Well, of course...

Here, I don't want you

[many laughing]

[Chloe laughs]

Only a dog eats

Since you're so hungry,
you should say it, Lucky.

You should be the most thankful.

thank you for the food

[many laughing]

- Um, actually, we were
just working on a new song

when you came in.

- You kids have been blessed
with many amazing gifts.

You should really
use them wisely.

Oh, by the way, Chloe,

Miss Joy would like us
to return her basket

at church on Sunday.

- Oh, well, ok,
well, you can do it.

I am not going to church.

- "As for me and my house,

we will serve the
Lord", Joshua 24:15.

Now as long as you
live in this house

you will worship
the Lord on Sundays.

Out of gratitude to the Lord

Besides, it makes me happy,

and I think it will

day they're gonna be here.

- [laughs] Ah, you

and just calling her
Grandma didn't sound,

respectful enough.

[many laughing]

clean up after yourselves.

snapping those beans.

weird for you sleeping

because it reminds me of her.

closer to her, I guess.

my mom was our age

that we would have gotten along?

That we would have been friends?

since my mom split when I was 2.

It was your mother's favorite
dress when she was your age.

- I'm gonna tell you the
same thing I told your mother

when she wanted to wear
overalls to church one Sunday.

When you're standing in church

the throne of God,

so don't you go
disrespecting Him

by wearing the same thing
you'd wear out in the barn.

Oh my, you don't know how much
you look like your mother,

except for the hair.

But, although, I think
she'd like blue hair.

- All right, I'll wear it.

- Now Sticks, there are
more dresses in the closet.

- Yeah, Sticks, there are more
dresses for you to try on.

- Uhh, you know, as
tempting as that sounds,

I think I'm goin to have

- Oh, and Chloe,
tomorrow for church

would you PLEASE
tone down the makeup,

and, uh, remove the fake tattoo.

- Do you really hate
makeup that much grandma?

- Oh Heavens no!

I've just lived long
enough that I've learned,

if the barn needs
painting, you paint it.

You child just don't
need so much paint.

Besides, I love you, no matter
what your hair looks like,

or what your makeup looks like.

I'm just saying, we don't
need to give the women's

prayer circle anything
more to chat about.

- That's true.

[Chloe sighs]

Chloe, do you pray?

- [Little Chloe] "Now
I lay me down to sleep,

- Chloe, knock, knock.

- [laughs] Sorry, uh, do I pray?

I guess I don't really
know what to pray for

because the thing that I
want the most is impossible.

- Well, if you were to
pray, how do you pray?

Are there like rules?

And like certain
ways of doing it?

I don't know, maybe
we're doing it wrong.

- Why, what do you pray for?

- Well, when I was a kid,
everyone, and I mean everyone,

in my neighborhood was
getting new bicycles,

and so um, my birthday
was coming up,

and I went to go
visit my grandma

and whenever I went
to go visit her,

she would always make me
go to church with her.

And I distinctly
remember one Sunday,

the preacher said, "Ask
and it shall be given,"

So right then and there I
prayed that if God was real,

I would get a new bicycle for
my birthday, preferably red.

- Of course.

- So I thought to myself,

well, you know,
if I pray for this

and it comes true, that
means that God is real,

and then, on top of it,
I'll get a new bicycle.

- So, what did you get?

- [sighs] Drums.

- [laughs] Your stupid.

- What?

- You do realize that God
is not Santa Clause, right?

- Well...

- If you got a bike,

you wouldn't be as
awesome of a drummer

as you are right now, you know?

I mean, my Grandma
always tells me

that God doesn't always
give what you want,

but He does give
you what you need.

- Oh, well.

[gasps] I just
realized something.

I still don't have a bicycle.

- You're so stupid.

[both laughing]
- Hey!

- [Chloe] Come on.

All right we should go to bed.

- I'm actually really tired.

- All right.

[upbeat music]

[indistinct chatter]

[car door bangs]

[piano music]

- Why do bad things
happen to good people?

If we have such an all
mighty, all powerful,

all-loving God,
why must we suffer?

[sighs] Most of us have
struggled with the answers

to those questions
for generations.

How do we explain to someone
who has just lost a loved one,

the reason for that?

How do we make sense
out of the pain

and suffering that is inflicted

upon us by other's
unintentionally,

or even worse, intentionally?

Or the pain and suffering
that we inflict on ourselves

because we find
ourselves in a rut

and we can't seem
to find our way out.

[Woman snoring]

I don't presume to know
God's reasons or thoughts,

but I do know I can depend
on His promises of comfort,

of strength, of hope,
faith and forgiveness.

- [Many] Amen.

[soft music]

[indistinct chatter]

- [Joy] Chloe, it's so
nice to see you in a dress.

- Muffin Lady.

- Yes, did you
enjoy the muffins?

- Yes. most definitely
the most delicious muffins

Ive had, no doubt.

- Well thank you, thank you.

And Chloe, I'm going to hook
you up with my nephew Jamie.

- [Grandma Sharon] Oh, Miss Joy,

I would love for you
to meet some friends.

- Lucky, I can't believe you.

- What?

- You know that you
don't lie in church.

You realize, you are a
sinner in church, sinning.

I didn't lie.

- You just told her
that they were the best

muffins you ever had.

We all know Chloe threw
them in the trash.

- Ahh, yeah, you see,

What you don't know
is that I saved them

and they were delicious.

[many laughing]

- So speaking of new directions,

what are you gonna do now?

We've never really talked
about your parents,

the band, or anything.

- I think right now, I'm
just going to lay low.

Like, just for the summer,

because everything that I
knew kinda got up rooted.

And honestly, I'm just
trying to figure out

who I am and where
I'm suppose to be.

- Chloe, I'll tell you
exactly who you are.

You're the best friend
that I've ever had.

You're a reason we are a band.

I'm gonna miss you so much.

What are you gonna do if
we make it into Band Clash?

- [Lucky] Yeah.

- You guys will
find somebody else.

You guys are the real
talent, I mean, I do nothing.

I've never applied anywhere.

your parents went to.

of parenting was
being a grandparent.

- [Chloe] Hello.

- I was just fixing
to go check up on you.

How are you feeling?

- I'm tired, it's hot.

It makes me sleepy.

- You know, I made
some fresh ice tea.

So, if you wanna cool down,

maybe you could go
get yourself some.

- [Chloe] I'm gonna go do that.

Do you want any?

- I'm good, I have some water.

But I was wondering,

would you mind reading
to me when you get back.

- [Chloe] Reading what?

taking my parents away from me

works out in His great plan.

I have asked myself
over and over, why.

- Baby, right now you
are just going through

one of those mountains in life.

We all have them.

I faced some of my
toughest mountains myself,

when my folks past away,

and when your
granddaddy past away.

And your mamma and daddy.

And poor ole Biscuit his
been moping around here

ever since Gravy past on.

Mountains are also hard
decisions we have to make.

But baby, God can give
you the strength to climb

that mountain or
you can just let it

stop you in your tracks.

That choice will
always be yours.

But I know in my heart you
will make the right decision.

[Chloe crying]

It's okay, it's gonna be okay.

You know, how about later today

we go down to your secret garden

and we fix ourselves a picnic.

[soft music]
[Biscuit huffing]

These are just for you Biscuit.

- Hey grandma, do you
still think about Grandpa?

- Oh goodness, I think
about him everyday.

[soft music]
[birds chirping]

- But with time, the
pain it fades away

but the memories of the
things he used to do,

[water splashing]

oh, my goodness, [laughs]
those make me smile.

[soft music]

- I don't think I'm
ever get to that point.

The memories that I do have.

It's been a long time.

It's kind of stupid, but,
well, I still feel broken

- Let me tell you
a story [chuckles]

and it's not from the Bible.

[soft music]

Once, there was a water
bearer who had two large pots.

Each pot hung on
the end of a pole,

which he carried
across his neck.

Everyday he would walk from
the stream to his house.

Now one pot was perfect,

and the other pot was cracked.

So everyday as he went from
the stream to his house,

the cracked pot leaked
all the way up there.

Of course the perfect
pot was proud of itself

but the poor cracked
pot felt ashamed,

miserable, and even angry.

After years of feeling
like a bitter failure,

it finally spoke to
the water bearer.

"I am cracked and broken.

I'm useless and miserable".

The bearer said to the pot,

"Did you notice the flowers
on your side of the path,

but not on the other side?

That's because I have always
known about your flaw,

and I planted flower
seeds on your side.

So every day as we walk from
the stream to the house,

you've watered those flowers.

Now I have beautiful flowers
to decorate to grace my house."

We are all cracked,

but God's like the water bearer.

He knows what's going to happen

and He prepares
us, if we let Him.

- So what?

Are you a cracked pot, Grandma?

[both laughing]

- Honey, I'm cracked,
chipped, broken, repaired

and my paint is peeling,

[Chloe laughs]

but God can still use me.

- So you miss Grandpa,

and I miss my parents

and Biscuit misses Gravy.

I guess we all have cracks, huh.

Where'd you here
that story anyways?

- I goobled it.

[Chloe laughs]

I know you want some treats.

[Biscuit squeaks]

[chimes ringing]

Oh, she's here.

Oh my goodness, the present.

I forgot the present.

[footsteps departing]

Oh, Lord, I thought
I had more time.

[thunder rumbling]

[piano music]

[Grandma Sharon crying]

I've had with Chloe.

If I can't finish
the race with her,

[floor thumps]

we have a 10pm
curfew on weekdays,

a midnight curfew on Fridays

and 11pm on Saturdays.

Word of God like an orange.

You have to peel off the rind
