that they are HIV positive

because of the stigma

mean to you?

I have a lot of experience
with motherhood, okay?

Not because I have ovaries.

-But I actually have two moms.

you got two moms?

Well, they had a sale,
so I just picked up two of them.

I love a good sale.

I really do.
I have two moms,

and they found each other
later in life.

This is my biological mother,
the one I got the nose from.

She met Sherri--
they're both Sherris.

Sherri squared, I call them.

They met at the yoga class,

and it was love at first sight,
I think, honestly.

They've been together
for almost a decade.

So explain to us how it is

to have two mothers
raise you basically.

So I've always been
a mama's...boy.

how inspired I am

by watching their love blossom.

Because they had marriages
and kids and careers,

and that doesn't mean
that they were finished

becoming who they
were supposed to be.

They are getting married

When you speak about your moms,

I can feel the love
that you have for them.

It's actually something
that I envy.

I've never really opened up
about my mother

to a lot of people,
because right now,

our relationship
is a work in progress.

Growing up, we were
actually super close,

but, you know, I'm also
from a conservative state.

My mother
is a pastor of a church,

and a lot of times

I felt like me just being
a flamboyant little boy

was almost like
an embarrassment to her.

That's really hard to hear.

I remember, I would
literally wake up

to my mother blessing me.

Oh, my goodness.

Sometimes I was her baby,

sometimes I was
an absolute stranger.

So that's the type
of relationship that we had.

It was, like, very tumultuous,
very up-and-down.

Don't get me wrong.
I absolutely love my mother.

She raised me
the best that she could.

But I do find myself

holding onto a lot of the hurt
that I felt as a child.

I find myself having
conversations with her today

as that same hurt little boy.

Can I tell you something?

Yeah.

I had a lot of childhood trauma

and stuff like that
with my family,

and someone said to me,

"Don't let that hurt child
make your grownup decisions."

And I will tell you this.

It changed my whole perception

of all this weight that I
carried with me for many years.

It helped me so much.

the motherhood I experienced.

Now, I'm a trans woman.

I can't give birth,

but I have taken on the
responsibility of having a pet.

He literally is my child.

I thought I was training him
to live with me,

but he's trained me
to be a better person,

and I just feel so grateful.

So motherhood
is full of surprises,

and so is my big, pink,
furry box.

is that when
I was about 14 years old,

I was 54 pounds.

from the inside.

I couldn't poop

So what they had to do
was to go into my intestines,

cut 'em apart,
fuse 'em back together,

and then I started gaining,
like, eight pounds a week,

10 pounds a week,

until I just ballooned up
to what I am now.

And I am 5'4" tall, 253 pounds,

and let me tell you,
there is not a day that goes by

that everybody doesn't slide
into my DMs and remind me.

Speaking of the social media,

I was watching RuPaul's
Drag Race Season 12,

watching myself, I was going,
"This is so amazing."

And I was having nacho,
burrito, taquito,

and then I would go on live,

and all of these kids
would comment.

They would be like, "Oh,
Jan's got a double chin now."

"Jan's gaining weight."

And I'm, like,
I thought I was a twink,

but now I'm like,
I don't know...I think?

I have no idea
what I am at this point.

I think a lot of times,

especially since
we're in the public eye,

you depend on these other people
to pump you up

and make you feel good
about yourself.

But the problem is,
when you look in the mirror,

there's nobody there but you

to tell you
how beautiful you are.

That's what I had to do
for myself,

and say, "I am okay
with this weight gain.

This is who I am,
and I love my butt."

Because there is some cushion
for the pushin'!

I don't know.

A part of my body
I used to really love

was my abs.

They've been missing
for a while,

so if anyone finds them,

are held to certain
beauty standards

that maybe other people aren't?

got the toughest topic,

because it's very heated
within the LGBTQIA+ community,

relationships with families
in general, especially mothers.

There were some great things
that you were talking about,

being queer in the South.

The way you talked about them
were really matter-of-fact,

which is kind of good,

because that's the way
people are gonna listen.

And I think
you had a strong night.

First of all,
I've done this job,

so I know how hard it is.

My nickname when I was on

because I was always crying
on television.

And there's a part of all of us

that wants to maintain composure
in front of other people,

but what I loved
about the conversation

were the moments
when you were really open,

can really affect the people
that are watching at home.

The best parts were when you

But you do this thing

where sometimes
you switch into performancey,

so when you flipped
into that show mode,

interesting part.

I think
a big part of our lives

as performers
or as drag performers

is you always kind of have
a little bit of a mask on,

and it's hard work
to let that mask fall down.

And sometimes you drop it

It was interesting watching you
go between your drag persona

and your real life

that sweet spot
