is how nonsensical it is.

I love this.

I was born and raised
in Honduras

and I think that immediately
people see my work

and they understand who I am.

tropical fantasy.

Welcome, everyone, to your
first
Full Bloom team challenge.

How are you all feeling?

Excellent.

- Did you say 'sexy', Ron?

I was like,
"Alright, red team's got this.

"Ron's feeling sexy."

Each team will have four hours
to design 16 chess pieces.

You will be working with either
a light pastel-coloured palette

with neon accents

or a deep jewel-toned palette
with metallic accents.

You'll be judged on your
creativity, color balance

and technique,

while telling a story
about the power and function

that each of these pieces
represents.

The winning team will be safe
from elimination.

However, members
of the losing team

will have to fight to stay
in the competition

in tomorrow's
individual challenge.

We're going to go with
the jewel-toned palette.

Glimmer, glam, we're gonna
rock that out.

I feel great. I'm really

MELISSA: Wait, let's get 'em

and we'll build up

the overgrown greenery?

So, we're doing our pawns first

and we're making them
like tough and gritty,

like people who worked hard
during those times did.

And our royalty pieces we're
gonna make really opulent.

So like a gradual orchid
and then into roses?

- Yep. Love it.

My day job, I'm an executive
assistant at a software
company.

I got into florals probably
about five years ago.

I want to be
a full-time florist

so this is really something
that's me taking my dream

and putting it in front of
everything else for now.

LUTFI: How many pawns
do we have?

CONTESTANT: Eight.
LUTFI: Eight?

OK, so the boys are gonna do
three and three.

- And knock 'em out?
- Yeah, and knock 'em out.

Our story is essentially based
on the Mayan civilisation.

Growing up, I used to visit
the Mayan ruins in Honduras

and I wanted to bring
the history into life

through this challenge.

I think it's the perfect
moment
to share that part of me.

The colors are challenging.

I got the pastels
and the neons

so I still need to make

color coordinations
and groupings in my head.

Um...

I'm like really having
a hard time with these guys.

- Focus.
- Yeah.

Tell us what we need to do.
We're here to support you.

I'm, like, trying
to figure it out.

OK.

JENNY, V/O: There's a lot of
flowers here

and they're, like, wanting to be
used and showcased.

They're like, "Use me, use me,
no, use me!"

They're like fighting
on what to use.

So I think that, like, we
should
definitely walk up to 'em

and, like, gravitate
to a color.

But he's the boss.

I'm not in charge this round
so I'm just the assistant.

MAURICE: Well, well, well.
Here we are!

What I like about this challenge
is it's perceptively very easy

but it's actually quite complex.

SIMON: We want teams to tell us
that story about pawns

and then the power
of the king and queen.

I'll be disappointed if I'm not
able to read those characters

because you can see them
very clearly on a chessboard.

BOTH: Absolutely.

KIARA: Look at that knight,
you guys.

He looks badass.

Gonna make a nice
killer mohawk mane

out of these fan palms

and I'm gonna tuck the proteas
into them

and they're gonna have crazy
sprays of the purple
delphinium

just coming out.

I love this because the knights
are fierce

and these are long and spiky
and that really fits

so I really think
it's gonna work well.

Kiara's team have nailed

some really pretty big shapes
already.

- The horsey one.
ELIZABETH: The horse is so nice!

I mean, it looks like Kiara
is
a very dynamic team leader.

I expect that she
knows what she wants,

she has it all laid out
for her team

and that she's setting
people up for success.

LUTFI: I don't know how this is
going to stay here.

LUTFI, V/O: Just, like,
in my head,

trying to find sense
to what I'm making.

Lutfi is struggling
with having such a big idea

that's detail oriented
in such a short amount of time.

LUTFI: What do you think
for these palms

to do, like,
a whole little ball?

I... I... Um...

You think that's gonna take
too much time to do?

I think it's gonna take
too much time for that.

This is my first challenge
and I want to win,

I do not want to see an
elimination for my first day.

CANAAN: Lutfi.

- Huh?

We need to get

So currently we're working
on the king

so you're getting
that very lush look,

you're starting to get
the bright colors in there,

the power, that kind of feeling
with it.

You're gonna start seeing
the metallics

come into play
with these two top pieces

and then slowly
they're gonna fizzle out

until they get into the pawn.

JIMMI, V/O: I'm very excited

who I am as a florist.

I'm from Belfair, Washington.

I opened my store
three days before the shutdown.

It was hard.

It was a really rough,
rough year.

But I owe a lot to Belfair.

Through the pandemic

I had phone calls
while we were shut down

on how can we help you,
how can we do this,

and for me this grand prize

is really to invest back
into my business,

give Belfair something big
to talk about,

and put us on the map
a little more.

Can I steal some of this?

for creativity,

with the blue team.

I love the fact that you've told
me such a regal and royal story.

You really have given
each of the pieces

its own characteristic.

I think the bishops
are inspired,

their cloaks are beautiful.

I love the cape.

I wish it dragged to the floor,
just to give me drama.

There's a lot of extra flowers
there

and you guys were done early

which meant you had
a lot of time.

So just to really have
pushed that.

I think the mohawk
on your knight

is really, really done well,
so job well done on that.

I love the way you used
gold accents

and then the rich jewel tones

but on all of the pawns

the lumpiness of them is
drawing
my eye away from the beauty

of what's going on behind them.

When you add plant material to
any frame, it adds bulk.

And I worry that
the sense of scale

has now been distorted.

and then I also love
that the king proteas

are all at the base
of the queen.

SIMON: For me, there feels to be
a slight chaos.

The Mayan element of it

is almost such a beautifully
clear, clean story

over-egged your puddings.

One thing I will tell

you were given so many materials

but sometimes
take a step back

because you can overwork it
just a bit.

and some wonderful
gem-coloured cottage scabious.

You call them scabious?
We call it a scabiosa.

Well, you know.
He calls everything wrong.

So I think that I am essentially
going to create

what I would assume would be
kind of Simon's -

a table in his home where he
comes in at the end of the day

and he lays his glasses
and he lays his pocket watch

and he unwinds

and we're going to
kind of display

maybe what his upcoming
project's going to be

which I'd assume would be
in his personal garden.

I've got seed packets
and some of his favorite blooms

and so I thought,
"How fun would it be

"for him to be almost
intoxicated on the flowers

"by having his glasses be
all floral?"

Simon is so interesting.

First of all, I love his love
for glasses.

I feel like him and I would

I just wire them up,
bend it over, twist it down,

and then just to make it clean
and beautiful

I floral tape it down.

And then we just start to
add them in

and see what feels right.

I tried to unlock it
by adding my style...

..to what I think an afternoon
with you in the garden

would be like.

I've got some mint tea there,

but our mint tea made us go
a little zany.

So I made some fabulous
floral spectacles.

And then your pocket watch

is laced in through
our bucket of blooms.

The fact that you've got mint
in there, sweet peas...

- I grow this in my garden.

It's utterly enchanting
and pleasing.

You've caught me,
which I think is really lovely,

but I'm feeling you

and I feel you've emphasised
and used

every element that was
in my box.

What did you get in your box

and tell us about the journey
on which you are taking us.

So in my whackdoodle box
of Maurice I got a headpiece,

shoes, the feathers,
the tassels.

I leaned more towards
that cottage look

and that was why
I purposely chose

to go against choosing
Simon's box

so that I could
challenge myself.

It was a tricky box
that you got

but I think that you handled it
in a fun way.

You can see like there's just
so much exuberance going on,

there's so much exploration
going on.

However, it's not as cohesive
as I want it to be.

It's like two different things
happening at once,

like I need a pop of this color
here.

Just something to help connect.

I could tell that you're a
bit
of a kid in a candy store

and you were given a box

from a man who doesn't know
where to stop.

You know what...

And there is an element of it
that is a joyous explosion

in its exuberance
and in its learning.

But I might have to have
a lie-down in a darkened room

after looking at it.

your creation.

I really vibed
with your aesthetic.

I found lots
of different textures

and I'm from the D.C. area,
and in springtime

we have lots of magnolias
and cherry blossoms blooming

so I put some magnolias
in there.

But I wanted to make it look
marshy, swampy,

that's why I used
the snake plant in there.

Well, you nailed it.

- It's spectacular.

It was an absolute joy
to watch you build this thing

from start to finish.

Palette, obviously,
you were given

but what you did with it

and then the way that you
introduced texture

all the way through.

Snake grass was
totally unexpected

and was such a brilliant move

and as you get in there

there's like textures,
a little wasps' nest,

there's that little hidden clump
of sweet peas

that are a little bit dying

and just from start to finish

it's so, to use a Simon word,
inspired.

what you were trying to
create?

I was trying to demonstrate

the duality of who I think
you are,

which is a little bit funky
but also joyful

so that's really where I was
going with that.

I love an arrangement that has
two personalities to it.

I like starting on a journey
over here in flowers

and ending up someplace
completely different over here.

For me the two things,

one there has to be
a through line

like dribbling a little yellow

or carrying some
blue carnations

could've worked
on the yellow side.

- It's just like very stark.

I wanted to feel like
the flowers

were like exploding out of the
basket through the netting,

kind of imitating that nature
always finds its way.

But it just shows that you have
such style and such...

It really shows.

I love how you settled
on the bunny tails.

What you started with was
really kind of heavy handed

and this just gives you
