but spring came two months after the
disaster, and many babies with it.

We were inundated with puppies and kittens.

The post-disaster baby boom was unexpected.

The more babies were born,
the harder it was to care for them.

Even nakatani struggled to deal with it.

around 1.2 million dogs and cats
were euthanized annually.

99% of cats were kittens.

Sometimes their parents
were euthanized too,

but mostly, they were kittens. If kittens
are speyed, they don't reproduce.

Sterilization is key to animal welfare.

If a baby is killed after birth,
it's better off not being born.

That's the painful choice faced
by those involved in animal welfare.

Alternatively, they protect those that
are born, to the end.

This was a shed,

I treated natsu badly for so long.

I took him to hospitals,

made him have operations, and admitted him.

I tried every treatment available.

But he died within a month.

It was too much for him.
