[synth music]

[twinkling music]

[insects chirping]

[water flowing]

[fishing bob plunks]

[water flowing]

- Sophie girl, they don't seem to be biting today.

[deep suspenseful music]

[man speaking foreign language]

[haunting music]

[branch cracking]

Oop, pardon us, sir.

[Sophie barks]

Sophie, quit it.

[Sophie growling] Sorry, she's a bit skittish.

You here for the festival?

[tense haunting music]

I assume that's what you're here for, all dressed like that.

Can't say I get the appeal, all that loud music.

Now, wait a minute.

[Sophie growls]

[tense music]

Oh god!

[blood squirts]

What the hell?

Oh, ah! [Sophie barks]

[man groaning]

[tense somber music]

[heavy rock music]

- [Man On TV] Tonight on KTU-TV it's a Movietron Friday

triple feature of genre insanity.

At eight, it's Iritzu Habori's slicing samurai classic,

"Path of Blood."

At 10, it's mad scientist madness with "Doctor Mantas."

And then at midnight, it's Umberto Ritzo's

surreal Italian horror fest--

- [Man On Radio] We'll get the town ready

for all of tonight's festivities.

- [Woman On Radio] Absolutely, now we've gotten through

all the micro-shows and happenings,

but let's get to the main event.

- [Man On Radio] Right, so this year's

Barrington Halloween Festival battle of the bands

will take place on the main stage

at the foot of Lancaster Mountain.

- [Woman On Radio] You'll get to see Whiskey's Wake,

Patterstats, Metropole, Ballerina Maggot, Blank Face,

and the Banshee Riders on the main stage.

- [Man On Radio] The Banshee Riders, now this'll be

their first time playing in Barrington ever.

- [Woman On Radio] It sure is.

- [Man On Radio] I know, right, exciting stuff.

This year's-- [knocking at door]

- [Grandma] Kevin are you awake in there?

- Yes, Grandma.

- [Grandma] I need you to run some errands for me.

Can you do that?

- Yeah, I sure can.

- [Man On Radio] From the obscure

to the frankly, just weird.

And while the battle of the bands is primarily for locals,

get ready for the out-of-towners to clog up the streets.

[car engine humming]

- That was the sign for Barrington.

We are now in Barrington.

- Cool, I can already feel the tendrils

of small-town America seeping into my every pores.

- [Chet] Nat, we're in Barrington.

- What?

- [Chet] We just crossed into the city,

you shoe-gazing nerd.

[Brandon laughs]

- Screw you, Chet.

- All I'm saying is, the most influential

horror punk band of the decade is playing,

and you'll be at a bar seeing, who was it, Tart?

- It's Teek.

- Teek, right.

Hey, Brandon, let's start a band where you just

smash on cymbals and I'll loop my guitar into an amp.

People like Nat will think

we're misunderstood and brilliant.

- Yeah, our name would be Swirling Dust Star.

[Chet laughs]

- Music critics don't know anything about music.

- [Chet] As a professional music journalist

and your boyfriend, I take exception with that.

Nat, let me explain to you the different tiers

of good music, okay now, one.

[relaxed guitar music]

[repetitive banging]

- [Digital Voice] Forward.

[digital beeping] [game controls clicking]

[bell tinkling]

[gentle electronic music]

[game controls clicking]

- [Kevin] Uh, hey.

- Can I help you with something?

- Hi, uh, Kevin, Kevin Gordon.

You're Jeff, right?

We had, well uh uh bunch of classes together senior year.

[game controls clicking]

- I'm remembering something.

[dramatic banging]

- [Digital Voice] You're dead.

- Yeah, I remember you.

You're the guy who just lost me my match.

- Oh um, sorry about that.

- Ah, I'm just givin' you guff, but you do owe me a soda.

[controller jiggling]

[relaxed guitar music]

- So um, how long you back for, man?

- Just a week, my parents wanted me outta their hair.

Thought I should spend some time with my uncle.

I'm terrified that it may become a yearly tradition.

[Jeff slurps]

- I remember him having a cabin up in the mountains, right?

Is that where you're staying?

- [Jeff] Yes he does, and no, I'm not.

- What do you mean?

- Look, my uncle lives in a creepy cabin up in the mountains

at the mouth of actual ghost mine.

He's insane, he literally drives his motorcycle around

in the mines, looking for rare earth metals, or whatever.

Down here, in the real world, we have batteries, arcades,

places I can get a big soda.

I'm not cut out for whatever it is he does up there.

So, I'm gonna rent a room at the cheapest motel

and sweat it out for the week.

My uncle, that idiot, won't even realize I never showed up.

Anyway, you still up at your grandma's?

- [Kevin] Uh, yes, I am.

- How's that all goin'?

- Oh, you know, good.

- Well, better go find that motel room.

- Got any plans for the night?

- Not specifically, why?

- Well, The Tower is showing a pristine 35 millimeter print

of "The Grotesque Mirror" tonight.

I guess for the Halloween festival.

- "The Grotesque Mirror?"

- Oh, it's this great Italian horror movie from 1976.

It's about this museum where the paintings come alive

and kill people.

- I'll be perfectly honest, Kevin,

that old cheesy movie stuff isn't really my thing.

Also, I just heard that Nichols got a Rust Storm cabinet

last month, so I was gonna go check that out.

- Oh, uh, all right.

- Well hey, what time is the movie at?

- 7:30.

- We should meet up beforehand, get a bite or something.

- [Kevin] Yeah, sure.

- Is Betty's still open?

- [Kevin] It is.

- Their apple pie still kick ass?

- [Kevin] Um, yeah, uh, I think so.

- 5:30?

- [Kevin] Sounds good.

- See ya at 5:30.

[relaxed electronic guitar music]

[insects chirping]

[wood tapping lightly]

[relaxed electronic music]

- Hm.

[relaxed electronic music] [wood tapping lightly]

[people chattering]

[mine door clattering]

[bell rings]

[upbeat synth and drumming music]

- My god, it's here.

- [Taxi Driver] Sir, sir?

- I'm sorry?

- You need to pay, sir, 27.53.

- Oh, of course.

- Hey man, I can't break this.

Sir, sir.

Well, okay then.

[patrons chattering]

- Thank you.

Our waitress looks like a nurse from the 50s.

[Chet laughs quietly]

- I feel like these waffles are going to give me cholera.

- [laughs] Nice.

What's the matter, Nat,

hometown cooking not what you remember?

- It's fine.

- Well, all right.

Well, we better get going.

If the food makes me feel like I'm gonna shit blood,

that what, a 5% tip?

[Brandon chuckles]

Last chance to come see a real band, Nat.

- Pass.

- Ah, you're such a pill.

Well, we'll meet up after BR's set then.

We'll meet up at the carnival games,

I know how much you love those.

Oh hey, Nat, one day your taste in music won't suck.

[coin clanking]

[Chet laughs]

[patrons chattering]

- [Woman] Thanks a lot, uh-huh, take it easy.

[door clicks shut]

- Bye, take care. - Come back.

[exploding]

- [Digital Voice] Rodent Rumble.

- Are you aware that you have a work of art in your diner?

- Huh, what was that?

[punches thudding]

[man grunting]

[punches thudding]

[man groaning]

[game interface exploding]

- [Digital Voice] Rodent Rumble.

- Excuse me, are you Natalie Hovie?

- Yeah.

- [Jeff] You went to Barrington High, right?

- I did.

- I'm Jeff, Jeff Kerman.

- Sorry, I'm not sure that I remember you.

- Oh, that's fine, I'm not all that memorable.

I think we had shop together, with Mr. G?

- Yeah, I remember shop.

- Yeah, I made a giant wooden head

for my end of the year project.

- I remember a giant wooden head, that was memorable.

- Anyway, I'm back in town, thought I recognized you.

But I wanted to come over and make sure

I was remembering right.

- Jeff?

- Hey, over here.

- Are you back in town for the festival?

- Huh, oh no, just visiting family.

Hey, Kevin, uh, you remember Natalie?

- Oh yeah, I think so.

You were like uh, goth back then, weren't you?

- Uh, shut up.

- Oh, sorry, I don't mean to judge.

I love uh, uh,

[teeth clicking]

dark hair and spiders.

- Are you here for the festival?

- Yeah, my favorite band is playing

over at Sylvesters, Teek.

- [Jeff] Teek, never heard of 'em.

- No one has.

- Well, Kevin and I were about to sit down for a meal.

Care to join us?

[patrons chattering]

- Sure, I'm starving.

[gentle electronic music]

- Yeah, I don't know, I guess living here

just makes it hard to get into the festival.

- That's bullshit, you should feel lucky.

- Yeah, I guess music just isn't really my thing.

- [Natalie] Music isn't your thing?

What does that even mean?

- I mean, I like music, it's just,

I'm much more of a movie guy.

- Oh, you shut your mouth.

- No, I mean, music is great, but movies,

it's it's this combination of images and music and movement.

It's the complete package.

- Oh okay, so more is always better.

- Well, in some ways, yeah.

- Sorry, music is just, it's so much more pure than that.

You can't even see it, it doesn't exist in the real world.

It's like a phantom.

[Jeff chuckles evilly]

- What?

- Your music ghosts are cute and all, and movies, sure,

they're all right.

But you wanna talk about a symphony of the arts,

the music, the story, the everything?

It has something that music doesn't have,

that books don't have, that movies don't have.

Interaction.

- Um, doesn't that just play games where you slide blocks

on top of other blocks?

- [Natalie] Oh. [chuckles]

- Yeah, that's one of the best games, it's brilliant.

- Um okay, but how is that the same thing

as music or movies?

- Yeah, and how many arcade games

are in the Library of Congress?

[Kevin chuckles]

- You're all a bunch of philistines, is what you are.

- Oh shit, it's almost seven.

I'd better get going, I hope the movie's not sold out.

- Yeah, I think Teek will be starting soon.

- I play my games on my own time.

- It was good catching up with you guys.

- How long are you in town?

- Just for the weekend, my boyfriend is covering

the music portion for a local rag back home.

Well, I gotta get going, but hopefully I'll catch you guys

before we leave.

- Yeah, for sure.

- See you guys.

- Girls think that video games are cool

and that guys who play them are cool, right?

[crowd cheering]

- Metropole, everyone.

My name is Les Whalen, I'm one of the music coordinators

here for the battle of the bands.

- [Person In Audience] Woo!

- I just wanted to take a moment to thank you all

for being here tonight.

And now, for the act you've all been waiting for.

The Banshee Riders.

[crowd cheering]

- Barrington, Colorado.

[drumsticks swooshing]

[slow solemn orchestral music]

[Kevin exhales]

[slow solemn orchestral music]

- Hey, please tell me you still have tickets

to "Grotesque Mirror."

- Oh my god, we literally have one ticket left.

- Really?

- [Clerk] Yes.

- Ah, thank god.

Please, one for "Grotesque Mirror."

- There might not be any good seats left.

- For a Ritzo movie, any seat is a good seat.

- Oh I know, right.

[gentle orchestral music]

- [sighs] I do not get people.

- [Woman On TV] Staying safe on Halloween is no trick

if you follow these helpful tips.

Always look both ways before crossing the street.

Haunt places you know and trust.

If a light's off, fly on.

Avoid spooky cemeteries.

And before sinking your teeth in,

have a parent inspect your candy.

And remember, watch out for those out-a-town punk rockers.

Happy Halloween.

Brought to you by the Barrington, Colorado--

- This is Sylvesters, right?

- Oh, yes ma'am.

- I didn't miss the show, did I?

- Oh no, those kids are settin' up right over there.

[video game beeping] - To defeat the evil

forces of Mars.

A simple token can do all this at Nichols Arcade.

[coins clattering]

[light digital music]

[eerie buzzing]

[heavy rock music]

- Hello, beautiful.

[heavy rock music]

[coin clattering]

[heavy rock music]

[gentle orchestral music]

- Hi, we're uh, we're Teek.

[relaxed rock music]

[car engine rumbling]

- It has to be here, it has to be here.

[heavy rock music]

[crowd cheering]

- Thank you, Barrington.

- Woo-hoo, yeah.

- Holy shit, everyone, the Banshee Riders.

[crowd cheering]

Now, I know this is a little unorthodox,

but we have one last act for you.

- The Riders weren't the closer, that's an insult.

- A late edition to the lineup, please welcome to the stage,

Uh, Un-Untitled, I guess.

[deep somber music]

- What the hell is this?

[man speaking foreign language]

[scary music]

- Hurry Elizabeth, the paintings, they're coming to life.

[eerie music]

[Kevin sighs]

[slow somber music]

[Elizabeth gasps]

[laser gun whirring]

- The red spot.

- What?

- Shoot the red spot, the red is always the weak spot.

- Oh, right, thanks.

[heavy rock music]

[tense steady music]

- Interesting, it's like a Gregorian chant

mixed with spoken word.

- Yes, very interesting, very daring.

[man speaking foreign language]

- No no no no no.

[man speaking foreign language]

[man speaking foreign language]

[deep tense music]

[rocks crumbling]

[deep tense music]

- Hello, is anybody there?

[deep tense music]

[people chattering]

[bell clanging]

[laughs evilly]

[woman cackling]

[haunting organ music]

[crowd chattering]

[haunting organ music]

[crowd chattering]

- [Kevin] Jeff?

- Oh hey, how was the movie?

- Oh, you know, it was just really crowded.

- You were the only person there, weren't you?

- [chuckles] Whatever.

- Yeah, Nichols was a ghost town.

I was the only person there over 12.

It was really depressing.

[woman cackling distantly]

- I guess everyone is out in the streets, you know?

- Wanna grab a turkey leg?

[ring clattering]

- Gosh, I'm awful at this.

- It's rigged.

- I know, I just thought maybe I could get, you know,

one close to sticking.

- It's bullshit, it's unbeatable.

- Yeah, it's just a game.

[ring clattering]

- An unbeatable game isn't a game, it's a joke.

Skee-ball, now that's a game.

- Okay.

[Jeff sighs]

- Hey, this one's called "Sleeping Trees."

Off our new EP.

[relaxed rock music]

- Woo!

- Rodney?

Ah Jesus, Rodney, you look terrible.

Are you okay?

[relaxed rock music]

Buddy, you don't look so good.

Hey, what do you got under that?

[gagging and coughing]

[glass shattering]

[Rodney growling]

[Nat gasps]

[tense scary music]

[whirring]

- Whoa.

[man yelling]

- The lock's freakin' locked.

[Nat sighs]

[tense digital music]

[Nat gasps]

[tense pulsating music]

- [Man] No, no. [groaning]

[tense digital music]

[Nat gasps]

[man speaking foreign language]

- Okay, I can't tell if he's making some sort of a comment,

dragging it out like this.

[man speaking foreign language]

[deep haunting music]

[deep booming]

[brush crunching]

[tree crashing]

[rocks clattering]

[tense scary music]

[man gasps]

- Oh, now this is cool.

- Yeah, I can't even see the wires.

[laughs evilly]

[tense scary music]

What the hell?

[tense scary music]

[man yells]

[yelling]

[tense scary music]

[monster growls]

[woman screaming] [speaking foreign language]

- Ah, crap.

[deep scary music]

- Run!

- What the hell is that do you think?

- I don't know.

[tense scary music]

[man gasping]

[tense scary music]

Now what the hell is that?

[tense scary music]

[laughs evilly]

[laughs hesitantly]

[adventurous music]

[loud whirring]

[adventurous music]

- Oh, ah!

[splattering]

[man gasps]

[tense scary music]

[creature growling]

[tense scary music]

[man groans]

[monster growls]

[man yells]

[monster growls]

[tense scary music]

- Kevin, Kevin, hold up.

- What?

- Didn't Natalie say she was seeing a show at Sylvesters?

- [Kevin] I don't know man, I think so.

[people chattering]

[scary music]

[breathing heavily]

- There's a goddamn monster in there.

I, I know it sounds crazy, but you have to believe me.

- Oh, we believe you.

[glass shattering]

[tense pulsating music]

Hurry.

We need to get out of town.

- Hey, I just need to make sure my grandma's okay.

- Where does she live?

- On Gilligan Avenue.

- That's on the other side of the city.

The town exit is a mile that way.

- Sorry guys, good luck to ya.

- Well we need to decide what we're doing.

- [sighs] Shit.

Kevin, wait.

[rapid digital music]

[bird screeching]

[rapid digital music]

- No no no.

- Kevin, wait.

- [Kevin] No, stay out here.

- But.

- Please, just stay.

[rapid digital music]

[floor creaks]

[tense music]

Grandma?

[floor creaks]

[slow tense music]

[floor creaks]

[slow eerie music]

[floor creaks]

[slow eerie music]

- I hope everything's okay in there.

- You said you were at the concert, right, by the mountain?

- We were in the area, yeah.

Oh shit, your boyfriend.

- [Natalie] Yeah.

- Well what does he look like?

Maybe I saw him.

- Like an obnoxious ass.

- [Jeff] Huh?

- God, I'm sorry, that's horrible for me to say.

- No, it's okay, lots of couples have problems.

- I'm pretty sure [sighs], no I'm very sure

we were going to break up after this trip.

He always talked down to me, treated me like an idiot.

I don't know why the fuck I was dating him.

He's an asshole.

But I don't want him to be dead.

I mean, I hope he made it.

- Oh, for sure, you gotta wish for the best.

I don't think you're an idiot, Natalie,

whatever that's worth.

[ambient digital music]

[floor creaks]

[tense music]

- Grandma.

[door creaks]

[Grandma groaning]

Grandma.

[Grandma groaning]

Grandma.

[dramatic music]

[gunshot pops]

- Huh?

- We've gotta go in.

- Wait.

[ambient digital music]

- [Jeff] [sighs] Kevin.

- Yeah, um, they got her.

- Oh Kevin, I am so sorry.

So what do we do now?

- We get the hell outta this town.

- Well, we have to go through that.

You think we can make it on our bikes?

- So, what other choice do we have though, man?

There's only one road in and out of Barrington.

We are flanked on all sides by the goddamn mountains.

- My uncle's cabin.

- How far away is it?

- There's a trail, it's about three miles that way.

He's a survival nut, he treats his home like a fortress.

We'd be safe there.

We could wait this thing out.

It's like you said, what other choice do we have?

[adventurous music]

[gunshots popping]

[monster groans]

[gunshot pops]

[gun clicking]

[officer gasps]

[monster laughs]

- Chet, there's too many of them, man.

- Be quiet.

- Well, what are we gonna do, Chet?

- I don't know Brandon, what are we going to do?

Hey, get over here, nerd.

What the hell are you reading for?

- I'm looking for the correct spell.

- Okay, do you know how we can get out of here?

- I'm right where I'm needed, sir.

The best that you can do is find a safe place to hide.

- Right where you wanna be, what the hell's wrong with you?

Okay, listen, if you don't help us--

[crunching] Huh?

[monster growls]

[Chet and Brandon groaning]

[man speaking foreign language]

[exploding]

- Of course, it's [speaking foreign language],

not [speaking foreign language].

I'm so stupid.

- [groaning] What is happening to me?

- [sighs] Your body's being taken over by an ancient curse.

- [Chet] What?

- You and your friend there, your bodies are being

merged together and your soul is slowly being pushed out.

- My soul?

- Mm-hmm, I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do for you.

- [groans] Help me. [groans]

[man speaking foreign language]

[pole crashing]

[rapid swishing]

[tense scary music]

- I'm sorry.

[tense scary music]

[insects chirping] [wind whipping]

- [breathing deeply] Are we almost there?

- Yeah, it's just a little further.

You gettin' tired?

- Hey man, I watch movie marathons on the weekends,

I'm not an athlete.

[tense somber music]

- Shit.

[digital beeping and whirring]

[Jeff gasps]

- Fuck you, demon thing.

[gunshot pops]

[liquid splatters]

- Holy shit, you got him.

[monster growls] Did you see that?

His head flew off.

You must've hit him in a weak spot or something.

- Can we just get going?

- Oh man, did I say something?

- Did you stop to think that he may have known that guy?

He lives here.

- Oh, right.

- And, he just had to deal with his grandma.

- Oh my god, I'm a bastard.

- A little bit, yeah.

[tense suspenseful music]

[head groaning]

[digital beeping and whirring]

[ambient digital music]

[Natalie breathing heavily]

[ambient digital music]

[owl hoots]

[ambient digital music]

[chaotic choral music]

[Jeff breathing heavily]

[celestial choral music] [ambient digital music]

Guess we go on foot from here.

- Wonderful.

- [Jeff] You guys up for a lovely night hike

through the woods?

- What it they're in there already,

like, in the woods though?

- [sighs] It's too late to turn back now.

[brush crunching]

[gentle electronic music]

You know when I was younger,

like when I was eight or something,

I would come up here to my uncle's cabin

and walk around these woods at night by myself.

They seemed so big back then.

Just feels so small now, I don't know why.

- I remember hearing stories about Gus.

- Gus?

- You never heard about Gus?

The giant man-eating bear who lives in these woods.

- I feel like my uncle would've told me about Gus.

I'm never heard of him.

- I think it was my dad who told me, I can't remember.

[gentle electronic music]

- Kevin.

- [Kevin] Yeah?

- I'm sorry about your grandma.

- Thanks, Jeff.

- It's weird, I don't hear any birds.

There's usually more owls out, I think.

[insects buzzing]

[gentle tense electronic music]

[monster groans]

- Sunlight, good to know.

[branch cracking]

[tense music]

[brush crunching]

State your name and business up here on my hill.

- Hey, whoa whoa whoa, Uncle Rolfe,

Uncle Rolfe, it's me, it's Jeff.

Your nephew?

- Is your uncle going to shoot us?

- No, calm down.

- [Rolfe] Nephew?

- Yeah, your brother, Floyd, I'm his son.

- Floyd, yeah right.

I have a brother named Floyd.

[gentle electronic music]

[Jeff chuckles hesitantly]

Hey, same gun.

- Yeah.

- Come on in, I'll make you breakfast.

[gentle electronic music]

[Rolfe humming]

- Uncle, have you seen what's happening down in the city?

[Rolfe groaning softly]

Uncle?

[Rolfe groaning]

- I don't get it.

- What is that?

[Rolfe humming]

[chicken squawking]

- Wait, are we having rabbit and chicken for breakfast?

- What?

- [Kevin] You said you were gonna make us breakfast.

- I never said that.

I would never say that.

[slow tense music]

- [Kevin] Is that what I think?

Oh man.

- Oh, what're you?

- Sh, sh sh sh sh, watch.

[tense digital music]

[rabbit growls]

- What is that, man?

[chicken squawking]

[digital whirring]

- You've seen this before?

- This mine, it's a silver mine.

But I started seeing neon lights.

Thought that it might be gold, diamonds.

Instead I found bats, looked like they'd been

stitched together with other bats.

Flopping around in pools of pink and purple.

Was extra-careful not to touch it.

I wore gloves.

- Well what do we do then?

There's hundreds, maybe thousands of things

a lot worse than that down in the city.

- The sunlight has slowed them down.

We have time to go the other way, before dark.

- The other way, what other way?

- Follow me.

[water dripping] [tense steady music]

They call it a mine.

[tense suspenseful music]

- You said you found that pink liquid down there?

- [Rolfe] Mm-hmm.

- So why is this safer?

- Who said it was safer?

I didn't say that.

I do know every nook and cranny of this mine.

I know the safe routes.

It is a safe mine.

- Um, you weren't kidding man, he's insane.

- And it leads to the other side of the mountain?

- Deep in here, there's a chasm,

like where the wizard fought the fire man.

Shall we get going?

[deep suspenseful music]

- So the wizard and the fire man, huh?

[deep suspenseful music]

- Are you sure you know where you're going, Uncle.

- I know these mines, I told you that, right?

- You did, they just seem so long.

[haunting music]

- [Rolfe] It's just up here.

[tense digital music]

[eerie ambient music]

I told you, just like in the story.

- Huh?

- With the wizard.

- Uh yeah, that thing doesn't look stable in the slightest.

- What're you talking about, it's strong as steel.

[wood crackling]

- Have you ever crossed it?

- Of course I haven't, I have my own way to get across.

- [Jeff] What's your way?

- I have a zip line grappling hook.

- Do you have it here?

- Huh, no, it's up in the cabin.

- [Kevin] Why didn't we bring it down?

- We have the bridge.

- All right um, who's going first?

[tense steady music]

- I think we should go by weight, one at a time,

smallest to biggest.

- Oh geez, you're so sweet.

[rocks crumbling] [both gasping]

Shit.

[tense steady music]

Yep, just about ready to get the fuck out of here.

[tense somber music]

[boulder crashing]

[Natalie breathing heavily]

- So uh, about that zip line grappling hook?

- Mm, yeah, let's go get the zip hook thing.

[water gurgling]

[mellow rock music]

[tape player clicking off]

- The sun's going down.

- [grumbling] I know it's here.

- [Kevin] Um, do you think you left it under a cushion?

- Maybe.

- I was being, uh, nevermind.

- He said the sun slowed them down.

- I know.

Uncle, you are sure there's not another way out of here.

- Very sure.

[items clattering]

Ah ha.

Here it is.

You see, you hook the back near where you're standing.

Then you aim it, fire it.

- Uh!

- Hook it, and then you glide on down across, or whatever.

But you'll only want to have one person on it at a time.

That's all it can hold, like the bridge.

[brush rustling]

- What was that?

[tense suspenseful music]

[knocking at door]

- Hello?

[door creaking]

- Hello?

- Hello there, what can I do for you?

- Who are you?

- My book led me here, to this spot.

- Um, are you a missionary?

- [Stuart] Huh?

- I don't know, are you like, selling Bibles or something?

- What?

No, sorry, I'm looking for a place inside the mountain,

a place my book said would be here.

I saw the cabin, heard voices,

wanted to see if there were any survivors.

I'm gonna end this.

- You know how to stop the monsters?

- It is the only thing that I know.

- [Jeff] What do you mean?

- My name is Stuart Combs.

My mission in life is to keep the monsters at bay

by any means necessary.

For years, the Order of the Serif have fought

demonic forces on Earth.

To this day, they still fight.

After years of war, the tide turned,

and we began to win.

[monster gasping]

[light adventurous music]

[monster growls]

[metal clanking]

[monster growls]

We were so successful, they drove the king of the demons

back into the shadow.

His name is Haberim.

In the darkness, he waited and waited.

He couldn't be found.

Since birth, I was raised by the Order to find Haberim.

After years, we found the general area.

Barrington, Colorado.

- So there's a giant demon, like the king of the demons,

living underneath this city.

- We weren't sure, but when I saw the monsters

transformed by the blood of Haberim, I knew he was here.

I believe he is in the mountain.

- So what do we do to stop him?

- The monsters, they're forming Haberim a body.

When they're all together, we will use this.

- Uh, what the hell is that?

- It is the stone of. [grunts]

[Stuart yells] [Natalie gasps loudly]

- Huh?

[Stuart groans]

[scary music]

- Oh, nuts.

[eerie suspenseful music]

You, Carmen, I've got two sniper nests up on the cabin.

Joe and Jane, you two run down into the basement.

- [Natalie] Then what?

- There's a big lever.

When you see the lever, pull the lever.

- Okay.

- This way, Carmen.

[adventurous music]

Get up there, we need to keep them at bay.

[adventurous music]

- Lever, lever, lever.

- I don't see a lever.

[adventurous music]

[monster groans]

[adventurous music]

[gunshots popping]

- Carmen, you gotta shoot.

[gunshots popping]

[monster thudding]

[adventurous music]

- Jeff, over here, I found it.

- All right, let's do this.

[Jeff groaning]

Shit.

I think it's rusted or something.

[gunshots popping]

[adventurous music]

God, I wish I was heavier.

Or stronger, I don't know.

[adventurous music]

Hey, what're you doing?

- [Natalie] Hold on.

[bird cawing]

- Sh, dude.

[bird hissing]

[gunshot popping]

Come on, pull that lever.

- Move.

[Natalie grunting]

Why does your uncle have a giant hammer?

[Natalie grunts]

[pulley clicking]

[ropes swishing]

[barrel thudding]

[adventurous music]

- They did it.

I'm about to light you all on fire.

[adventurous music]

Carmen, you need to toss a flare.

- My name is Kevin, goddamn it.

[monster screeching]

[fire crackling]

- Good one, Kevin.

[monster groans]

[fire crackling]

[monster growls]

- Um, shit.

[monster growls]

[gunshot pops]

[monster growling]

[monster crashing]

[Rolfe grunts]

- Uncle!

[deep tense music] [fire crackling]

- This fucking bear thing jumps out of the fire

and knocks his tower over.

[deep suspenseful music]

[monster screeching]

[gunshots popping]

[Natalie gasps]

[deep suspenseful music]

[monster groaning]

- Chet?

[gun clicks]

- Oh shit, I'm out.

[gunshot blasts]

[monster screeches]

[suspenseful music]

[Natalie grunts]

[monster screeches]

[monster growls loudly]

- I'm sorry Chet, you fucking asshole.

- Uncle?

- Over there.

[tense suspenseful music]

- [Jeff] Uncle.

- I'm okay, I'm okay.

[deep drumming music] [monster grumbling]

[monster roaring]

[Rolfe grunting]

[monster grumbles]

[monster roars]

[gunshot blasts] [monster roars]

[monster thuds]

[gun clicking]

[tense drumming music]

[monster grumbling] [tense drumming music]

[funky synth music]

- Guys, I need your help.

I need you two to push while I cut.

[chainsaw buzzing]

I am so sorry, Uncle.

[Rolfe growling]

[Jeff yelling]

[Kevin grunting]

[tense drumming music]

[tree thuds]

[monsters growling]

[monster gagging]

[all breathing heavily]

[tense music]

- Oh shit, come on.

[tense scary music]

- Guys, I am sorry I took us here.

[tense scary music]

[monster growls]

[deep pulsating]

[eerie music]

What the hell just happened?

- Is this that moment right before you die

where everything slows down?

- Wait, what're you doing? [Jeff grunts]

[slow somber music]

- I don't know.

[monster grumbling]

[slow haunting music]

I think, yeah, I think we should get outta here.

[slow haunting music]

- Oh man, are you sure this is the right way?

- Nope.

[eerie booming]

[rock crumbling]

- Shit, that one was loud.

[slow eerie music]

- Uh yeah, that ain't normal guys.

- I can see the end.

[rock crumbling]

Hurry.

[tense ambient music]

- yeah, all right, let's get the hell out of uh, oh.

[mysterious twanging]

- Come on.

- Uh, guys.

Could you please tell me what that looks like?

- What the hell is it?

- [Kevin] Does that look like two giant red cat eyes

coming up at us?

Uh, because that's what it looks like to me.

[tense pulsating music]

- The fuck is that?

[scary music] [rock cracking]

- Whoa! [Jeff yells]

[rock crumbling]

[intense scary music]

[rock crumbling]

[intense pulsating music]

Okay, we're flying, we're flying.

We are flying, all right.

[tense haunting music]

[music increasing in intensity]

This is so stupid, this is so stupid.

[wind whipping]

- I don't even understand what's happening right now.

- It is strange.

Sorry, Natalie, music festivals do suck.

- To be perfectly honest, Barrington really is

a beautiful little town.

[all gasp] [rock crumbling]

[tense steady music]

[foot thudding] [all gasp]

[tense steady music]

[footsteps thudding]

- Hm?

- Oh, shit.

- What, like, could it get worse?

- Miller is directly on the other side of this mountain.

He's probably just going to crawl over,

barf all over the town, and make another giant

flesh monster thing, and they'll make two more,

and they'll make two more, and so on.

- Ah, shit.

- We have to stop him.

- Okay yeah, we have to stop him.

How the hell are we suppose to do that?

- With this.

[tense steady music]

- That like, weird guy's magic rock?

- There's a red divot down between his eyes.

I think if we place this on it, it could stop him.

- I mean, how do we know that it'll work?

- You heard the guy, he said that this stone

was the only thing that could stop this monster.

And besides, red is always the weak spot.

- It's the best we've got.

- So how are we suppose to do this?

- By weight, lightest to biggest.

[funky synth music]

Ready?

[funky digital music]

I'm so close.

- [Kevin] Jeff, you're slipping.

- Nat, we need to pull up.

- [Natalie] Just a second.

[funky digital music]

- Nat. [Nat gasps]

[funky digital music]

[heavy footsteps thudding]

Lower me, we have to get her.

- No.

[funky digital music]

[heavy footsteps thudding]

[Natalie groans]

[Natalie grunts]

[digital whirring]

It worked, I think it worked.

- Whoa! - Whoa oh oh!

[funky digital music]

[Jeff groaning]

- Ow!

[tense digital music]

- Ah.

[monsters grumbling]

Ah, fuck that.

- Are you guys okay?

I can't see anything.

- We are both stuck in the mouth.

[Jeff gasps]

- All right, I think, I think I'm gonna fall.

- Jeff, no, I'm coming, hold on.

[Kevin yells]

- Oh my god.

- [Kevin] What, oh my god?

- [Jeff] It's my uncle's zip thing.

- Um, guys.

[rock crumbling]

This thing is turning into stone and starting to crumble.

- Um, what?

Jeff, this thing is turning into stone and crumbling.

- Uh, yeah, he's definitely crumbling.

- Hey Jeff, I think this thing is about to topple over.

- I'm gonna go for it.

- [Kevin] What?

- I have to.

It's the only way you two are gonna get off this thing.

- What's happening?

- Jeff's about to jump down this fucking thing's throat

and try to get the zip thing.

- Hold on Jeff, I'm coming.

[grunts] Shit, I can't get up.

- [Jeff] Natalie.

- Yeah?

- You hold on, okay?

And Natalie, I'm really glad I bumped into you last night.

You too, Kevin.

- Come on man, don't, don't do this, man.

- It's okay, I'm pretty sure we just beat

the biggest boss there is.

Bye you two.

[Jeff grunts] - No!

[Jeff grunts]

[slow somber music]

[gentle electric guitar music]

[Kevin grunting]

Hey Natalie, do you think you can get a little higher?

- [Natalie] Why?

- I'm gonna throw you the thing.

- Well what about you?

- Ah, I'm stuck, I can't move an inch.

- [groans] I can't move either.

[rock crumbling]

[quick tense music]

- Okay, get ready for it, okay?

- Oh shit, okay.

- Ready?

- Yeah.

[rapid digital music]

[Natalie groaning]

I got it.

- Great, get the hell off of this thing.

- I can't just leave you.

- Huh, yeah if my leg weren't impaled on a giant demon too,

there would be an argument there for sure.

- [sighs] Okay.

[spike whirring]

[chaotic digital music]

I'm gonna go.

- Yeah, yeah yeah, good luck, Nat.

- You too.

Oh!

[Natalie grunts]

- All right, well, that ain't no good.

[intense buzzing]

[deep pulsating]

- Haberim, I hate you.

[rock crumbling]

[tense steady music] [wind whipping]

[Natalie grunts]

[Natalie sighs]

[celestial choral music]

[Natalie crying]

[haunting choral music]

[soft banging]

[gentle electronic music]

[Natalie gasps]

[gentle electronic music]

[light thudding] [Natalie gasps loudly]

[gentle electronic music]

- Kevin!

- Hey hey, look, I'm not dead.

- How the hell did you survive?

- It was amazing.

As the whole thing crumbled I found myself jumping

from piece to piece at just the right time.

My reflexes must've kicked in.

I was able to run down it as it crumbled.

- Really?

- No, I, I passed out from fear and woke up on the mountain.

[Natalie chuckles]

Hey, I have a small favor to ask of you.

Can you get me to a hospital?

[light pulsating]

[TV clicking]

- While it isn't clear where the majority

of Barrington's population have gone,

some speculate that hundreds of people

attending a popular music festival

fell victim to a massive avalanche.

[gentle electronic music]

[knocking at door]

[gentle electronic music]

- Ah, the damn thing turned completely to stone.

No signs of any monsters or demons or anything.

They think it was an avalanche.

- How do they explain everyone in the town disappearing?

- Kinda makes you think about what we should say.

I mean, if we should say anything at all.

- I don't really care.

No sign of dead monsters means that none of them survived.

That guy with the red stone,

he said that they'd all come together to make the body.

All that matters is that we made it.

- [Kevin] Yeah.

- Here comes the sun.

[gentle electronic music]

[insects buzzing]

- [Man In Mask] Hello, is there anyone here?

Is there anyone pinned down or stuck under the rocks?

- [Woman In Mask] Hey, is anybody up there?

- [Man In Mask] No, but the rocks up here

must've gotten loose with the avalanche.

- [Woman In Mask] Well, get down here when you're done.

Boss wants a team of 10 to check out the stage area.

- [Man In Mask] Yeah, yeah, I'll be down in a minute.

[slow tense music]

What the hell is this?

[slow tense music]

[digital beeping] [monster grumbling]

[slow mysterious music]

[monster groans]

[slow mysterious music]

[heavy rock music]
