This is hans' investigation into the ayers-allen house

In metuchen, new jersey.

I've never heard of it.

Well, not a lot of people have.

My father was the only one to investigate it,

And I only know about it because he talked about it all the time,

And it nagged him until the day he died.

The house was built by jonathan ayers in 1740,

And it was passed on through his family

Until it was purchased by a local schoolteacher

Named louise king and her husband,

Samuel, in 1947.

Louise was hearing mysterious knocking all around the house.

Then she started waking up night after night

With a full body apparition standing over her bed

Just staring at her,

And then it would disappear into thin air,

And this went on and on and on.

What did hans find when he investigated?

Well, he went there on March 6th, 1960,

Along with his trance medium, ethel meyers,

And they did a seance there.

Do we have more tape on that?

Unfortunately.

What did hans make of that?

He wrote that there were layers of hauntings

Still active in the house from its long history,

But he also believed that there was something dark there,

Something that was influencing the other spirits.

Well, alex, your dad used to go in and clear the spirits.

They've been experiencing paranormal activity in the home

In my opinion, they have this unusual attachment to the house.

The whole family does.

I mean, she found out that the haunting was there

And didn't want it cleared.

I think we need to meet with the reuter family.

Why would mrs. King reach out to hans holzer for help

And then refuse to let him cleanse the house?

Now almost 60 years later,

I'm hoping that tyreen reuter and her family

Will accept our help so that we can continue the work

That hans never got to finish.

The house is almost 300 years old? Yes.

It was built in 1740, has a lot of history

And also has a reputation for being haunted.

I can't tell you how many people

I've met that have bought a house known to be haunted

Because they thought it would be fun.

It usually doesn't turn out that way.

We had just closed on buying the house,

And I was working on getting these all open.

They were painted shut. Some of them were nailed shut.

I started to have a lot of negative feelings about,

"well, maybe this was a mistake.

Maybe we shouldn't have bought this house."

And suddenly, window flies open, flies shut,

And my fingers are stuck from the knuckle below.

I made the connection that maybe I should be

A little bit more careful about what I say

Or what kind of energy I generate about the house.

So you have, and I don't mean this impolitely,

But there's, like, this deep, weird connection

Between you and the house.

We do what's better for the house than necessarily for us.

I was here alone washing dishes,

And I heard very distinctly the sound of marbles

Being poured into a glass jar.

It was right about in this area here.

There was nothing that could explain it.

You obviously now have a bottle

With marbles sitting in that spot.

These marbles that we found throughout the house

Over the last 21 years we've collected and...

So these marbles are marbles

You've found throughout the house?

Where have you found the marbles?

Everywhere. Every single room.

There was a marble, and it hadn't been there

Residual energy could explain the sound

It feels like someone or something

Is trying to get tyreen's attention.

And the change in me since moving here is very distinct.

I'm not the same person that I was.

I have no desire to ever leave this house.

Sounds a lot like the family that hans holzer came to visit.

Mrs. King lived here for many years.

She was known to be protective of the ghost.

She died here in 1997 in my bedroom,

The same place where I sleep every night,

And then we bought the house.

There's a lot going on.

That these hauntings are happening

Past, present, future, all at the same time.

To now to give us something to connect with

So that we're all together in the same experience.

Tyreen obviously has a very powerful attachment

To this house.

She protects it and whoever or whatever is still inside

I keep seeing black birds, like crows, flying everywhere.

There's a lot of activity right in this space.

I feel like she's younger, and she's beautiful,

But she's not actually a woman.

I feel like she's a shape-shifter,

So people see her, and they become entranced by her,

And then she turns into something really evil.

It's a negative force.

For the kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy.

Cindy felt something dark and powerful in the kids' room.

I didn't feel very comfortable after that.

I saw an, like, older lady just in the room.

She had, like, white hair.

I thought it was one of my mom's friends,

So I called her to come up,

And when she came up here, there was nobody in here.

And when you called your mom,

When she got up here, they were just gone.

Like, I didn't notice them disappear,

But they were just, like, not there.

It was just, like, there 1 second, gone the next?

Do you think your house is haunted?

Has experienced unexplained activity,

But they're not the only ones.

Two of tyreen's friends have had encounters here.

One refuses to step foot inside the house

But the other, she was eager to speak with us.

I went to walk into the kitchen to meet her,

And I heard the marble across the floor.

And tyreen sees me on my hands and knees,

I said, "oh, I'm looking for the marble that I kicked."

And she said, "oh, you know about the marbles?"

And had you been told about these marbles

That just appear here?

They just seem to appear, and that's called apportation.

That's when seemingly things appear out of nowhere.

To this house tyreen is?

Tyreen is completely attached to this house.

I don't know if it's just the history of it

Or if it's something that's making her feel more attached.

Knowing that the former owners are still here

And are being seen, felt,

That her soul may be put here or left here as well?

To feel a strange attachment to the home.

The kings reportedly experienced the same thing

But wouldn't let hans holzer come back to cleanse it,

This house seems to have a hold on these people.

Regarding spirit attachments to specific structures

This amount of physical activity is insane.

But the recorder is sensitive enough to pick it up.

Schrader: But the spirits that are here that are more unwelcoming,

As you can hear, it's pretty loudly telling me to get out.

That's not a coincidence.

That's the gateway.

That's where all of these energies and spirits

Are coming in.

Now to me, it sounded like a foreign language,

And I think what we've caught here is a lenni-lenape word.

Ahasak means crows.

On the baseline-investigation night,

I saw crows flying everywhere.

The crow is a very important symbol

In native american culture.

They have the ability to shift between past,

Present and future.

They're symbolic of this space being an entryway

Between many different dimensions all at the same time.

Like hans and ethel before us found,

There are multiple layers to this haunting

That are taking place,

Multiple timelines that seem to be going on,

All of these energies in one convergent spot, this house.

We believe that native americans might have placed a curse

On this property that traps souls here that

So far have lived in relative peace with you and your family.

They're fine with me now.

I don't know that I would necessarily

Want to invite too much to rile them up.

They asked you to get out.
