(relaxed piano music)
(alarm beeping)
- Happy fucking birthday, kid.
Maybe today's your day.
- [Dale] It's the story that has been
all over the internet for several days now.
A live streaming video of a man
trapped in a sparsely-furnished room
has gone viral all over social media.
Authorities are still looking for information
about the location or the identity of the man in the room.
- Well that guy's gonna have a hell of a story.
- [Dale] In weather,
it's going to be another hot one in Phoenix today
with temperatures topping out at 112 degrees
with no relief in sight over the next 10 days.
The National Weather Service
has actually issued an excessive heat warning
through the end of your workweek.
So remember to stay hydrated and be careful out there.
- Yeah, it's called air conditioning, Dale.
(relaxed electronic tones)
- [Dale] Recapping our top story,
more protests are expected this afternoon
as civil unrest continues across the country.
(Jeffrey sighs)
- How is it possible that
110 degree weather is the only good news?
(phone buzzing)
Hello, hello?
- [Angel] Gringo.
- Oh, hi Angel, what's up?
- [Angel] You want to know what's up?
Your time. - Yeah I know.
- Your time is what's up. - I'm trying.
- [Angel] That's what's up.
- Look Angel, I'm trying
to get your money but it's not easy.
I mean honestly, I don't know how I'm gonna get it.
- [Angel] I'll give you 30,000 reasons for
you to get me what you owe me. - Oh for Christ's sake Angel.
My mom spent all of her life savings
on my dad's medical bills and got behind on her mortgage.
We had to get the money from you because
there was no other way to get the money
fast enough to keep from losing the house.
- [Angel] Not my fucking problem.
- Angel look, I, Angel?
- Good morning, Jeffrey.
Oh, company calendar says it's your birthday today.
I hope it's a great one.
- Yeah, it's sure shaping up to be the best birthday ever.
- That's awesome, Jeffrey.
- Good morning, Karen. - Good morning.
- Hey, would you tell Jeffrey that
Stanley would like to meet him in the conference room?
- Sure thing. - Okay, thank you.
- Jeffrey, Stanley would like
to see you in the conference room.
Oh, maybe it's a birthday surprise.
- Here it comes.
See Rich, that is how I got that Eagle in Bora Bora.
You need to work on your short game.
You just flop around like a duck-billed
platypus on the green every fucking time.
- It's not a duck-billed platypus, I know what it is.
- Pendulum, Rich, a pendulum. - Pendulum, okay.
- Like a grandfather clock, you see that?
- Okay yeah, fine but you see-
- You wanted to see me? - Yeah, Jeff.
Come on in, have a seat and close the door behind you.
- Good morning, Jeffrey.
- Karen, bagel, cream cheese!
I know we said we were going to try to find
you somewhere in another department but it just
doesn't look like we have openings in any department here.
We certainly can't put you back
in engineering support with your issues with Debbie.
- Oh god, not Deborah.
- I'm sure you understand.
At this point, we think it's best if we just parted ways.
- [Rich] Part ways.
- Parting ways, is that what we're calling this now?
- Well, I'm sure you understand.
We think it's the best for everyone involved.
- No, you know, I really don't understand.
So this has nothing to do with
my conversation with HR last month?
- No Jeff, it really doesn't. - No, it doesn't.
- Some things have come to our attention.
Well, specifically my attention
that are a little concerning.
- So let me get this straight.
A month after I go to HR
and tell them about Debbie telling jokes about her-
- Karen, is this plain cream cheese?
It's strawberry or nothing!
- So after that conversation with HR,
you're suddenly presented with all
of this information that is so concerning to you
that you've got no choice but to part ways with me?
- Now look Jeff,
it would be great if we could keep you on
and put you say in customer service but right now,
we just don't have any place to put you.
We're so over-staffed, we're totally out of room everywhere.
- You know what she is.
She's a passive aggressive narcissist.
- She's
hard to work for, I know
but I can't change the way she is
and she's been here for over a decade.
- So it doesn't matter that she's a racist who whispers
the word Mexican like it's some kind of a dirty word?
- We talked to her about those issues, Jeff.
- [Jeffrey] How about when she actually threatened my job
when she told me I should just go ahead and quit
instead of waiting to be fired because it's so much easier-
- [Karen] My sincere apologies, it was my mistake.
- Yes, it was. - Thank you, Karen.
- Because it's so much easier to find a job when
you already have one rather than waiting to be fired.
I mean come on, you know this is bullshit.
Don't you think it's awful convenient here
that right after I talked to HR,
we're suddenly having a conversation about parting ways?
I mean, come on.
I thought you were the one in charge here, Stanley.
She sure seems to be the one with the balls.
- Look, there were quite
a few mistakes in some of your work.
Some of those mistakes were pretty costly.
- Costly. - Calm down, Jeff.
- My name is Jeffrey, it's always been Jeffrey.
Calling me Jeff does not make you
my friend or this any less bullshit.
I made mistakes, sure I made mistakes.
But the other guys in this department
are making the exact same mistakes I am.
She brings you a list of my mistakes
because I don't fit her preferred demographic for a lackey.
She likes 'em young and cute so she can
can carry on this weird incestuous mother-son thing.
Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum out there
are making the exact same mistakes I am.
But see because I'm in my 50s, she brings you
my mistakes before the door to HR was even shut behind me.
- Jeff.
Sorry, Jeffrey.
Come on, you are a smart guy.
You shouldn't have any problems finding a job or employment
anywhere with the experience that you've learned here.
- Six years. - Yeah.
Six great years.
- Six years, you do realize what this is?
You do know this is nothing but payback for my trip to HR?
I mean you do realize that, right?
- Well, we can say that but-
- If you want to go to talk to Liz in HR,
that's perfectly in your domain to do
but let me warn you that the decision
has been made and she supports this decision.
- Yeah,
I'm sure she does.
- Well, she does. - Are we done here?
- I know you've got some friends out there on the floor
but don't make a scene saying your goodbyes.
Just collect your things and go.
If you need a box, there's one in my office you can have.
- Yeah, that's not gonna be necessary.
- Jeffrey, if you need any assistance, I'm here for you.
Just reach out, give me a call.
I'll be glad to help you in any way you can.
Until then, thank you for being part of this company.
I wish you all the best, have a good life.
Bye bye now. - Thank you, Rich.
- Try to imagine, imagine where the ball's gonna go.
- [Rich] So I should in essence be the ball?
- [Stanley] What? No, don't be the ball, Rich.
We hit the ball, do you wanna get hit, Rich?
- Oh Jeffrey, can I bother you for a second?
- Yeah sure Julian, what's up?
- My cousin Angel, he called me and he told me
to make sure that I thank you for the warehouse job
and I absolutely love it here.
This is such a great company to work at
and I really do see myself at this company for a long time.
So again, I just can't thank you enough.
- Happy to hear that, Julian. - All right.
(Jeffrey sighs)
Nope.
Nope, they're gonna have
to think of me when they throw that away.
- Have a lovely day, Jeffrey. - Yeah, piss off Karen.
- You too.
- Fuck this.
What in the actual fuck am I supposed to do now?
Those mother fuckers beat me.
I went to war with that bitch and she won.
She found just enough fucking evidence to get me fired.
Stanley, what a fucking pussy.
I never should have gone to him
about Debbie in the first place.
He probably went running right to HR,
gave her plenty of time to fucking get her guns loaded.
Rich.
Fucking oxygen thief he turned out to be.
"I'm sure you'll have no trouble at all
finding another job with all your experience here."
Really, fucker?
You try to find another job when
you can't pass a fucking background check.
They have no idea how I feel, no idea at all.
- [Jeffrey] It's been awhile since I've seen you.
- [Davey] Yeah, it has been awhile.
You've been deployed, at war.
- [Davey] You've been too busy for us.
- [Jeffrey] You actually think
the Cards have shot this year?
- Hey brother, stranger things have happened before.
- Yeah well, I'm not gonna be holding my breath.
So little brother,
I know you didn't have me come all the way
to Arizona just to talk about football.
What's going on?
What's going on?
- Yeah, look, thanks so much
for coming out here on such short notice.
- Of course.
- Look, I really didn't want to bother you but-
- Hey listen, kiddo.
I haven't seen you since graduation
and airfare from Oklahoma is pretty cheap right now.
So here I am, so you can just tell me.
What's her name and how pregnant is she?
(Jeffrey laughs)
- I wish it was that simple, Jeff.
God, I really fucking do.
Can we sit for a minute?
- Yeah, of course.
What's going on?
What's up, Davey?
Talk to me, are you okay?
- There's no easy way to say this, bro.
I'm not okay.
- What do you mean you're not okay?
- Look, I didn't want to tell you because
you were deployed when it all started.
- Well.
- Look, I haven't been feeling good
for a long time and I guess I just waited too long.
- What do you mean you waited too long?
- Well look, being away at college, I had other things
on my mind and then I finally told mom and dad and they
made me go to the doctor's and they said it was too late.
- What do you mean too late?
What are we talking about here?
- I have cancer, Jeff.
That shit started in my balls, man, in my fucking balls.
Now it's spread.
- It's spread where?
- Fucking everywhere.
Jeff, it ain't good.
It's worse than not good.
So the doctor told me that I have to have surgery
but that it might be too late
for that to do any good anyway.
- Wait, what?
What are you saying, Davey?
How long has this been going on?
Can't they stop it, isn't there something they can do?
Some chemo or radiation or something?
- Jeez Jeff, look, they tried a lot of different things.
I don't know what else they can do.
Doc says they might be able to cut it
all out during the surgery but look,
I know what they mean when they say cut it all out.
- Jeez Davey, I mean what the actual fuck?
How did this happen, how did you let this happen?
How long has this been going on
until you actually decided to do something about it?
- Jeez Jeff, I don't know.
Look, the doc says it's been probably growing
for a long time before I even noticed.
I just thought maybe it would all go away, so I ignored it.
- You ignored it, you fucking ignored it?
You couldn't tell?
You couldn't have done something to protect yourself?
- Why the hell are you yelling at me?
- It's not like I asked for this.
I mean I damn sure didn't do it on purpose.
- I know you didn't, Davey.
- It's not like I got a couple
of superheroes guarding my nuts.
- You and your superheroes.
Superheroes guarding your nuts.
They'd have to be squirrels or something during the day and
cancer-fighting rodents at night.
- Yeah.
That'd be something.
Jeez Jeff, I'm sorry.
Dammit.
- Don't be sorry.
- I'm sorry.
What the hell am I supposed to do now?
(Davey weeps)
- I'll tell you what you're gonna do.
You're gonna fight this, little man, okay?
I don't know why you waited to tell me this long.
Dammit Davey, you are gonna fight this, you hear me?
You are not gonna die on me.
I don't know why you waited this long to tell me.
Fuck, I wish I would have come back sooner.
- I'm so sorry (weeping).
I'm sorry.
- Why'd you wait this long to tell me?
- I'm so sorry.
- I would've come back sooner. - I'm sorry.
(knocking)
Dr. Crowe, I called you a little while ago
about my brother's surgery this morning.
- Oh, you must be Davey's older brother, Jeff is it?
- Jeffrey.
- Have a seat.
- [Jeffrey] How did the surgery go?
- Well, your brother is a fighter.
I can see why so many people wanted
to wish him well with all that superhero stuff.
- Doctor, you can skip the sugarcoating.
This isn't a comic book
and I don't need the G-rated kiddie version.
My parents aren't here, so you don't have to
spare their feelings and I've seen actual combat.
So please just tell me how the surgery went.
- Okay.
The truth?
- The truth.
- This is a particularly challenging case.
By the time your brother discovered the tumor in
his left testicle, the cancer had not only spread to his
right side but it had metastasized to nearby lymph nodes.
The surgery we just completed was pretty aggressive.
- Pretty aggressive, what do you mean by that?
- It was a foregone conclusion that we would need
to remove both testicles during the procedure.
Once we got inside and saw the extent of the spread,
we realized we would need to go a lot further.
Ultimately we were forced to remove
the scrotum along with the testes
and there was a significant mass near
the base of the penis, which we removed as well.
- Holy shit, so you cut all of it off?
- No, no, no.
It turned out a complete penectomy wasn't necessary
but there was much more significant spread of the cancer
in lymph nodes in his lower abdomen and thighs.
We were able to excise the majority of the affected nodes
but the inner thigh is dangerously close
to the femoral artery, so we were reluctant
to go there during this particular procedure.
- Okay, okay, but overall long-term, how does it look?
- In all honesty, this is the most aggressive
choriocarcinoma I've personally ever seen.
- But you got it all, right?
People don't die from this, do they?
- Today's surgery went well.
But this type of cancer spreads fast and we're
already seeing signs that it has made it to his lungs
and if it gets a hold there, it'll be in his brain
as well and there isn't much we can do to stop it.
He'll need at least one more procedure
and some pretty aggressive chemotherapy but understand,
we came to this party way too late, Jeffrey.
- So you're telling me that my little brother is dying
and you're just gonna give up on him like this?
He can't die.
You've seen the inside of his hospital room.
It looks like the damn Justice League in there or something.
He's a fucking superhero, doctor.
He's Superman, Superman doesn't die.
He just doesn't.
- If there's one thing
I've learned about David, he's a fighter.
We'll see what the next few weeks brings.
But for now, he needs his rest.
- I guess the superheroes got
to the party a little too late too, huh?
You'd better be fighting, you little shit.
I can't lose you too.
I'm so sorry.
There's so much I wanted to say,
I never even got the chance.
I'm so fucking sorry, Davey.
- [Wright] Warrior two-six, Warrior two-six,
this is Warrior one-six, radio check.
How copy? Over.
- Shit, didn't he do a comm check before his convoy left?
Why does he need so many damn radio checks?
Really, Private?
You're gonna play the word "head" off the word "hard?"
You either need some R and R
or some serious alone time in the latrine.
Warrior one-six, Warrior two-six.
Copy, Lima, Charlie, over.
- [Wright] Roger one-six,
we are 15 clicks from ASR Golden RP.
Request updated S-2 on ASR Wizard, over.
- I swear, he thinks Lieutenant
Colonel Johns is listening to everything he does.
- Warrior one-six, warrior two-six, be advised,
S-2 update on ASR Wizard
indicates change from condition red to condition black.
Advise reroute to bypass, how copy?
Over.
- [Wright] Copy, Warrior two-six, condition is black.
Please advise time for
condition change change from S-2, over.
- Seriously, why the hell
does he want to know all the conditions?
- Warrior one-six, warrior two-six.
Be advised, time on intel 1730 Zulu, over.
- [Wright] It seems pretty quiet at here right now.
Look on the map, you see this?
If we cut over on Wizard,
we would take over an hour off our convoy time.
Warrior two-six, be advised,
we will be taking ASR Wizard at
the intersection in approximately three clicks, over.
- Warrior one-six, Warrior one-seven, negative.
You are not authorized to travel black route ASR Wizard.
Travel authorized for convoy route only.
You will not put my platoon's lives
at risk just because you want a medal,
especially when I'm not there to bail your country ass out.
Stay true to ASR Golden, how copy? Over.
- [Wright] Warrior one-seven, copy.
I have reviewed with Warrior two-seven
who is my NCOIC in your absence.
Convoy re-routing to ASR Wizard, over.
- [Orson] Warrior two-six, warrior one-one.
Be advised, I do not agree with Warrior one-six
and his constant campaign to get a Purple Heart.
I just wanted to be on the record that this is horseshit.
- Standby, one-six.
Shit, the intel is from today
and that ASR is close to the green area.
It'll cut time off the route and he's right about that.
It'll get 'em back way earlier than expected.
- Are you serious?
You can't possibly think about letting him
take my platoon down hand grenade alley.
Jesus Christ, Sasha, people are gonna get killed.
Are you gonna live with that?
- At ease, Sergeant Hansen.
My TOC, my call.
Warrior one-six, warrior two-six.
Reroute to ASR Golden via ASR Wizard is authorized.
Radio checks required at initial turn
and again at exit onto ASR Golden.
How copy? Over.
- [Wright] I copy.
- You realize, ma'am,
that when this goes to shit, you caused it.
You're no better than Wright,
gambling with my boys' lives so you
can get an "atta-girl" from the old man.
Make sure you wear the Bronze Star to my boy's funerals.
- That's enough, Sergeant.
You either get on board or you get me a new TOC NCO.
My TOC, my call.
At ease.
It's your play, Sergeant Hansen.
- I think I'm done with game night for now.
- [Wright] Warrior two-six, warrior one-six.
Radio check, over. - Gotcha, one-six.
What's your status?
- [Wright] Making turn onto ASR Wizard.
Will keep channel open until
all vics have made it through the intersection.
All vics check in once through.
- Warrior One Bravo. - Warrior two-seven.
- Hellcat one-one. - Warrior one-five.
- Bravo Alpha Mike. - All right, Bam.
You keep your shit straight
and head on a swivel, you hear me?
Bring my car back in one piece.
- [Bam] Roger dodger, Warrior one-seven.
In for a penny, in for a pound.
- Looks like they all made the turn.
They just have a few hundred meters before
they get to the ASR Golden intersection.
They just gotta keep their shit together just for a couple-
(gunshots booming)
- [Wright] Is anybody hit?
- Warrior one-six, Warrior two-six, SITREP now.
- [Wright] Which truck got hit, two-seven?
Wait, standby, two-six.
Everyone check in, dammit.
- [Orson] A little hard to check in at the moment, one-six.
Contact, nine o'clock!
- [Soldier] Son of a fuck, where's the security?
- [Soldier] Warrior one-five, warrior four-one, how copy?
- [Orson] Contact is down, I say again, contact is down.
- Warrior one-six, Warrior two-six, SITREP now.
What the fuck is he waiting for?
Warrior one-six, SITREP now.
- [Wright] Just give me a second here.
Sergeant O, where's my nine line card?
- Nine line, what the fuck's he need a medevac for?
- [Wright] We have two vehicles hit with one casualty.
Correction, I have one vehicle hit with two casualties.
Break, who is medevac?
- [Dragonslayer] Warrior two-six, copy.
We are monitoring chatter on your freq.
Are you requesting medevac at this time? Over.
- Standby, Dragonslayer.
We're waiting for nine-line and SITREP from Warrior one-six
near grid three-three-niner-six-niner-zero.
Can you move to intercept?
- [Dragonslayer] Negative, two-six.
No nine-line, no dispatch.
- One-six, one-seven, SITREP or nine-line now.
Do this right, damn you.
- [Wright] Standby.
Sweet Jesus, his face.
- [Orson] Dragonslayer three-five, this is warrior one-one.
Nine-line follows.
Line one,
grid three-three-niner-

Line three, two, both Alpha.
Line four, Bravo, Charlie, Delta.
Line five, two litter.
Line six, Papa.
Line seven, Alpha.
Line eight, Alpha.
Line nine, disregard.
- [Dragonslayer] Roger one-one.
En route to your location ricky tick.
You stay small until we get there.
- [Orson] Roger Dragonslayer, Warrior one-one out.
Warrior one-seven, Warrior one-one, it's Bam.
It's Bam, Sergeant.
Him and Hunt both.
I'm sorry, brother.
- Jesus Christ, Bam.
I promised I'd bring you home in one piece.
God, I'm sorry, brother.
My babies.
What's it been?
13 years.
You're men now.
- Get him, get him.
I caught him.
- I think Venom was better.
- Oh really?
All right little man, it's past your bedtime, get up there.
- Ah dad, the movie was just getting good.
- Yeah, well you can finish it tomorrow after school.
How about that, does that work?
- Yeah.
- Dad, I forgot to take off my slippers.
- Goofball, These are clean sheets too.
Let's see 'em.
All right, get up there.
So what are the dreams about tonight?
- I'm building a castle, dad.
A big, strong one so the dragons can't get in.
- Castles huh, my little architect?
Can't wait to visit you there.
As long as the dragons stay out, okay?
- Okay. - Daddy loves you.
- Love you too, dad.
- And I seem to be missing a little boy.
Has anyone seen a little boy
who's trying to avoid his bedtime?
Whoa.
Where'd you come from?
- I was brushing my teeth, see?
- Yep, yep, pearly white and minty fresh.
- Yep, yep. - And what about you?
What's your dream about tonight?
- Dragons but not the mean ones, the cartoon ones.
The ones that sing. - Singing dragons?
My little musician.
How much do you love me?
- I love you great big bunches, dad.
- All righty boys, settle down, you two.
Time for bed.
Goodnight.
- Squad,
attention!
The Secretary of the Army has reposed special trust
and confidence in the patriotism, valor, fidelity
and professional excellence of Jeffrey Hansen.
In view of these qualities and his
demonstrated leadership potential
and dedicated service to the US Army,
he is therefore promoted from Sergeant to Staff Sergeant.
- I think it was Henry David Thoreau who said
"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams
and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined,
he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."
That's what we did and I'm proud.
- [XO] Congratulations, Staff Sergeant.
(soldiers cheering)
- My man! - Yes.
- Good job, brother. - Yeah!
(soldiers chattering)
- Hold on babe, I'm gonna grab me a couple
cookies from that Christmas party last week.
You want any? - No.
- I'm gonna grab you two just in case.
Want one? - No.
- Baby, I just did the math and we finally have a little
bit extra cash at Christmas time and I can finally afford
to get you something nice after 10 years of struggling.
Anything you want, anything you want, I'll buy it for you.
I want to make this Christmas special.
- Okay, you know what I want?
You know what I really want?
I want a divorce.
(Jeffrey laughs)
- I'll go get one of those real quick.
You're joking, right Gwen, right?
- Nope. - You can't be serious.
I thought we were fine.
Everything just started getting normal again.
- That's rich. - Gwen wait, talk to me.
What's going on?
- What's going on, Jeff?
I'm not happy.
Haven't been happy for a very long time.
- What do you mean you haven't been happy?
Just two nights ago, we were dancing in this room, remember?
- Mm hmm. - Remember we were dancing
and I held your hand and I sang into your ear.
- Stop it.
- Just two nights ago, everything was fine.
- I swear to God, I swear to God.
- We were dancing in this room
and if everything was fine, what changed?
- Nothing.
Nothing changed, Jeff, that's the problem.
- If it's a problem, I can fix it, I can do something.
- You sound like a little bitch right now.
You can't fix it, you can't do anything about it.
You're a good dad, so I won't fight
with you about the boys but I'm going to bed.
Remember, the boys get out of school at lunch today
because it's the last day before Christmas break.
You were in bed when they left this morning,
so try not to be an emotional wreck when they get home.
I really want this to be a good Christmas.
Jeff, did you hear me?
- Stiff upper lip.
Guess I'm gonna have to get used to this shit too.
(knocking)
Hello?
- Hi, Mr. Hansen, is your wife at home?
- Actually, you just missed her.
Can I help you with something?
- I'm Nikki, Nikki Bowman.
We met at the Christmas party last week.
Your wife recently started
working at the company my husband runs.
- Oh yeah, yeah, Nikki.
Come on in, get out of the cold.
- I was hoping to have a word with her but
I'll settle for your insights into the situation.
- Yeah, we can talk.
Come on, sit down.
- [Nikki] Thank you.
- I'm sorry, situation?
You have me at a bit of a disadvantage.
What situation are you talking about?
- Well,
you are aware that your wife
and my husband are sleeping together, aren't you?
- Well honestly, no.
No, I wasn't.
- Right.
I was just on my way to an appointment with my attorney.
The nerve of that man.
- You want a drink?
- [Nikki] Why not?
It's been a few hours.
- Please, have a seat.
When did you find out?
- Last night.
"I'm not happy, Nikki.
I haven't been happy for a long time."
- That's what he said to you?
I think they had this coordinated.
I got that same fucking speech last night.
- 25 years of marriage up in smoke.
- 25 years, huh?
That's a long time.
I'm really sorry.
- I'm not sorry.
I'm angry.
But you know,
if my husband can break the rules, so can I.
- I think I'm more hurt than angry right now.
I really want to try to save my marriage, you know?
- Really?
- Yeah.
Call me crazy but
I still love her.
I don't want to get divorced.
I can't get divorced.
That's not an option.
I think there's gotta be a way to fix this, right?
There's another option.
There's some other way to make this work.
- Not for me.
My marriage has been a loveless farce for years.
Loveless and
sexless
for a very long time.
- I'm sorry.
I still love my wife and
I need to try to make this right again.
Revenge would make me feel better.
- It certainly would take
the sting out of this whole mess for me.
- But I just can't.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
- I'm sorry for my behavior and for my husband's.
I wish he was as good at keeping his pants up
as he is at keeping appearances up.
- I wish my wife was better
at keeping her legs and her marriages together.
- What do we drink to?
- To husbands and wives, God help them all.
- Wife is no longer my title.
I'll drink to alimony and future formers.
- So what do you boys think about your first camping trip?
Pretty cool.
- It was okay, I wish we had a better cell signal
up there though, I couldn't even use my phone.
- I wish she wouldn't have got you guys those damn phones.
I know but the swimming and campfire were fun, right?
- I still think I got bit by a fish though.
- God, you're such a baby.
Fish don't bite people.
- Then what was it I felt on my leg, smarty?
- It was your imagination, stupid.
- I'm not stupid. - You're stupid.
- You're stupid. - You're more stupid.
- You're stupid more. (phone buzzing)
- Hold on Gwen, let me put you on speaker real quick.
Okay, what's up? - Where are you right now?
- We are on the 60 headed back to Phoenix,
just passing mile Mile Marker 220 right now.
Trying to get a full night's rest
so we can hit the zoo tomorrow, right guys?
- [Gwen] I'm actually just a few miles behind you.
I was visiting some friends in Globe.
Can I get the boys tonight?
We can meet at the next rest stop.
I just won tickets to the water park
and tomorrow's my last day off for awhile.
- You realize I'm supposed to have
the boys until tomorrow night at 6:00, right?
- [Gwen] I know that but I thought they would really enjoy
it and you've had them all to yourself since Thursday night.
- Okay, I'll pull off at the next exit and meet you.
- Are you mad, dad?
- No, buddy.
I'm not mad, just disappointed, you know?
Just looking forward to going
to the zoo with you guys, that's it.
Here she comes.
- Hey guys.
- I missed you. - Oh wow, you boys stink.
That's awesome. - If you think that's bad,
wait 'til you smell those.
- All right guys, say bye to your dad.
We got places to go. - See you guys.
- [Gwen] What'd you guys do?
- Gwen, just listen, Gwen.
Just listen to me.
Gwen, are you listening to me?
Do we seriously have to talk
about this when the boys are inside?
They're right there and I don't want
them to hear us fighting like this.
- [Gwen] I don't understand why you were trying
to change the beneficiary on your life insurance.
If you die, the boys are going to need new clothes
to wear to your funeral, so I will need that money.
- Holy shit, Gwen, are you hearing yourself?
You're fucking killing me.
The worst part is the boys are gonna have to watch me die.
- [Gwen] Oh my God, Jeff, did you just
threaten to kill yourself in front of my children?
- That is not what I meant, you know it.
- [Gwen] That's domestic violence, Jeff.
- Stop twisting my words. - You can't treat our children
like that, I'm coming to get them right now.
Have their bags packed and ready.
- You have been convicted at this General
Court Martial of two counts of domestic violence,
which is a Federal felony.
You are sentenced to six months of confinement
at the Regional Confinement Facility at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
You will receive a general discharge
under other than honorable conditions.
You are dismissed.
- You'll never see those two boys again.
You are finished, you spineless bastard, you hear me?
You're done and don't even think you've got
a shot at seeing them when you get out of prison.
You'll be lucky If I let you live that long.
You will die before you get to see those boys again.
- My babies.
I've never stopped loving you.
I guess
she beat me too.
Fuck.
Nothing.
Nothing in here.
Nothing will work.
- [Gwen] You spineless piece of shit.
You don't even have the balls to do the right thing.
- Leave me alone, Gwen, you can't hurt me anymore.
- [Gwen] What a joke.
You can't even hurt yourself, you worthless pussy.
- Fuck you, Gwen, fuck you.
You ruined everything.
You took the boys away.
Ruined my career, our marriage, our marriage.
God, was that a lie too?
Did you ever love me at all, Gwen, ever?
- [Gwen] You never amounted to anything, ever.
What are you now, a veteran?
Good luck using that in your favor.
No, I know, you're a skilled member
of the engineering staff at Grossman/Strauss.
Oh nope, wait, you fucked that up too.
No.
You're a felon.
Can't take that one back, can ya?
Not even you can fuck up being a fucking felon.
Only problem is when you're a felon,
you can't have a gun and oh,
wouldn't it be so much easier to kill yourself
if you could just eat the barrel of a nine millimeter?
- Fuck you, get the fuck out of my head.
(phone buzzing)
- Really Anthony, today?
It's been what, five years since
I've seen you and you pick today to try to reconnect?
You wanna know how I am?
Fine, here's how I am.
(phone buzzing)
Fucking Angel.
Fuck you, Angel.
Maybe I want to be dead.
Maybe I could use your help.
You want your money? Come fucking get it.
I don't give a shit anymore.
(knocking)
It's open, asshole.
- Wow, bro.
You dressed up for me, huh?
- Fuck you, Angel.
You want a drink?
I'd offer you a smoke but I've only got one left
and I don't feel like going to the store right now.
- You look like shit. - Thank you.
It's been a hell of a day.
Why don't you have a seat?
- I don't have time for that shit.
Where's my fucking money?
- I don't have it.
- You don't have it.
- No. - You don't have it, huh?
Where's my fucking money?
- Did you leave your ears on the other side of the border?
I don't have your money.
- Come on, bro.
Come on.
- Oh, we're bros now?
Well this is awkward 'cause if we're bros and I gave
your money to your mom right after I face-fucked her,
then that makes our mom an actual whore
and me an actual motherfucker.
(Angel laughs)
- You're fucking funny, huh?
(grunts)
My mom, huh?
Huh, you want to go there?
So I came out here for nothing, huh?
I came out here why, we gonna play fucking tiddly-winks?
Is that what we're gonna fucking play, huh?
You fuck.
(grunts)
I thought it was gonna be easy.
I thought you would fucking know I wasn't playing.
But no, no.
(thuds)
That hurts, huh?
It hurts, huh?
Pathetic.
You're fucking pathetic.
- You can't beat it out of me, Angel.
It seems that the recent economic downturn has had
a negative impact on the loan shark sector of the economy.
- What?
- Let me say it slower, since you seem
to be having trouble understanding my words.
I don't have
your fucking money,
you ignorant fucking wetback.
(Jeffrey grunts)
- Hurts, huh?
(gunshot booms)
(Jeffrey screams)
It hurts, it hurts so bad.
(Angel whines mockingly)
If I was you,
I'd put a bullet in my brain.
But you ain't me.
So give me my fucking money.
- Who the fuck was that?
Dude,
what the fuck?
I know we haven't seen each other in a few years, Jeffery.
What the fuck happened here?
- It's been a hell of a day.
Sit down. - Really?
- Just sit down.
- Tell me what's going on.
- It's bad.
Everything is bad.
I'm too old to start over.
I've lost everything.
I've lost the boys,
lost my career, my marriage.
I've lost my freedom
and now I lost my job.
Another fucking job.
Another trip down the rabbit hole of god,
I hope they don't ask if I've got a criminal record.
Another round of being judged.
I'm just so tired, I'm so fucking tired.
We've been friends a long time, haven't we Anthony?
- A long time, Jeffrey.
- We were almost like brothers.
- No, we are brothers.
- Well, when I lost Davey, we were brothers.
Holidays and family picnics.
That fucking horse you tried
to convince everybody you could ride.
(chuckling)
- Seriously, you need to let me take you to the hospital.
You need to be seen.
- You were the best man at my wedding,
back when I thought I deserved a best man
or anything resembling happiness.
I love you, Anthony.
I do.
I always have.
If you love me, Anthony, if you've ever fucking loved me,
pull the trigger please.
- No, Jeffrey.
I shouldn't, I can't do this.
We can get you help.
- [Jeffrey] Please.
- You've been through far worse
than whatever's going on here.
For Christ's sake, you've been to war.
You'll get through this.
We'll get you help.
I love you brother, that has to be worth something.
- Christ Anthony,
I'm getting really sick of waiting on the car.
How much longer is this gonna take?
Holy shit.
My God.
You said you had to go see
an old friend who needed your help.
I had no idea you were coming
to help this worthless piece of shit.
What's it been, Jeff, 10 years?
It seems like longer than that.
Honestly, my life has gotten
so much better since I sent you away.
I started my own business.
Things are going great.
I hired Anthony here to handle
all the operations here in Phoenix.
That worked out better than I could have hoped.
Oh, I got the boys' names changed,
by the way.
Yeah, I just couldn't stand looking at them knowing they
had those ridiculous names that you picked out for them.
- Gwen, stop.
Jeff is really hurt here.
Someone just blew his fucking knee apart
and beat the shit out of him.
Do you really think it's a good time
to be torturing him right now?
- Oh, now is the perfect fucking time.
I've always loved
(Jeffrey wails)
kicking him when he's down.
Ah.
Hey, were you actually trying to kill yourself?
(Gwen laughs)
Oh fuck.
- Anthony.
Please.
- Well,
that's fucking sweet.
You know, the only thing more pathetic
than a pussy who's too weak to kill himself
is a pussy who's too weak to do it for him.
(gunshot booms)
I'll be in the car.
