A Girl Like Me

Episode 38

That’s right.

Don’t give in, Count Cheng’an.

No!

Watch out!

Goodbye.

Rong Xia.

Attack!

East Gate

Kill!

East Gate

Where’re you heading, Mr. Xie?

Hua.

Hua. Hua.

Hua.

Hua. Hua. Hua.

Hua.

Hua. Hua. Hua.

The city gate was lost, Your Majesty.

What?

I never saw that coming.

Rong Xia shoot Ban Hua to death.

Why do you always lose to Rong Xia?

You idiot.

Taking Ban Hua as the hostage

is not my idea.

What do you mean by that?

You couldn’t think of a better strategy

and now you blame all this to me?

Do something!

Now, the only way could be...

What?

Surrender.

You...

Dumb-bunny.

Get out!

Yes.

Your Majesty.

No.

We may have one last solution, Your Majesty.

Go ahead, Feixian.

Count Cheng’an killed Ban Hua.

The infuriated Ban Warriors definitely won’t let him off.

Some of the senior warriors defending the capital

happen to be the right-hand men of Old General Ban years ago.

You mean...

We can ask them to lead the Imperial Guards

to stop Rong Xia

and revenge for Ban Hua.

Sky-holding Gate

The people suffered from the cruelty of the Emperor.

Can you please sharpen your eyes

and fight for the people?

For my whole life,

I only listen to His Majesty and Old General Ban.

How dare you killed Princess Ban!

Today, I’m going to kill you hypocrite

for General Ban Senior.

I am OK.

Can you recognize this?

Do you still remember the belief

my grandfather persisted in

when he founded the Ban Warriors?

Fighting for the people.

Fighting for the country.

All of you have been the right-hand men of my grandfather.

Jiang Luo is a tyrant.

Do you want to hold a candle for the devil?

Who exactly is your enemy?

Think about it.

We won’t let the General down.

We’d like to fight for the people.

Fight for the country.

Sky-holding Gate

Sky-holding Gate

Count Cheng’an, Jiang Luo is a crafty guy.

He must have still kept a door open.

You’re right.

We will hold tight our positions.

I trust you.

Go for it. Don’t worry.

Your Majesty.

Feixian, don’t be afraid.

If Rong Xia dares to step in,

I’ll kill him right here.

Ban Hua. You are not dead?

I feel good. Thank you for your concern, my dear cousin.

Protect me!

Ban Hua, how dare you!

This is my palace.

Don’t you dare step forward! I’ll kill you.

Go!

Those women and the elderly being poisoned to death,

and the people died of starvation.

It’s time for you to pay back to them.

Come on, Your Majesty.

Feixian, follow me!

Feixian.

Go get him!

Go!

Why are you still alive?

I guess even God of Death

would hate a girl like me.

Here’s the antidote, Princess Ban.

Take it as soon as possible.

Here’re the things

you may need then.

Once you surrender,

all of us will be killed, Count Cheng’an.

Hua. Hua.

What did I do wrong?

Why does fortune always run against me?

You’ve done nothing to solve the famine.

Pretended to give away food to the people and poisoned them.

Now, you ask me “what did you do wrong”?

You’ve gone too far.

That’s because you disobeyed me. You guys wanted to betray me.

I spared no efforts to get today’s position.

The Empress’s Crown

is within in my reach.

Why do you always go against me?

The Empress’s Crown?

Just the difference of seats.

Is that worth such a big cost?

You don’t understand.

Once I become the Empress,

no one could control me.

Everyone has to obey me.

Since when

did a woman have to depend on a man

to get herself fame and fortune?

What a pity.

The most talented lady of Daye.

The most talented lady?

I don’t care.

I want to be the Empress of Daye.

Clever as you are,

how come you can’t understand the truth?

Once a loser, always a loser. Go ahead.

In my mind,

Shi Feixian was dead.

Dead?

I can’t be dead.

I’m the Empress of Daye.

How can I pass away?

I can’t be dead.

I can’t be dead.

I can’t.

I’ve been waiting for you for a while.

Mr. Xie, help me.

Your Majesty.

Xie.

As long as you kill Rong Xia,

I promise to promote you to be Prime Minister.

OK.

It seems that your reinforcements have arrived.

How dare you, Rong Xia.

Unlike the Late Emperor,

I won’t allow you to fool around in my palace.

Kill him!

What are you waiting for? Go kill him!

Xie Chongjin.

You... How dare you betray me!

Learn from the best.

As soon as Rong Xia withdraw the forces and surrender,

I’ll divorce with Xie Wanyu immediately.

Make you the Empress.

Then, Your Majesty, how shall we deal with Xie Chongjin?

It’s all up to you.

How can I still work for you?

Apparently, your reinforcements don’t listen to you.

Take him down.

Rong Xia. Rong Xia.

The Late Emperor treated you well.

For his sake, you can’t deprive my imperial career.

What you’ve done were deserted by your followers and relatives.

You deserve it.

Daye still has Prince Zhang.

You don’t have to worry about it.

No. Rong Xia.

I’m the Emperor. I’m the Emperor.

Take him down. Put him in the wing palace.

I’m the Emperor of Daye. Jiang Zhang doesn’t deserve it.

He doesn’t deserve it.

I’m the Emperor of Daye. Jiang Zhang doesn’t deserve it.

I’m the Emperor of Daye. Jiang Zhang doesn’t deserve it.

Luo.

I’m the Emperor of Daye.

Suyue, that’s my biological younger brother.

You take him as your brother.

Has he ever respected you as his elder brother?

Let me go. Keep your hands off me.

Keep your hands off me.

I am the Emperor of Daye.

How dare you humiliate me like this!

I am the Emperor. Jiang Zhang doesn’t deserve it.

I am the Emperor.

Wanyu?

Are you coming to help me out?

Where’re Rong Xia and Xie Chongjin?

I’m going to kill them.

Jiang Luo.

You are not the Emperor of Daye.

I’m no longer the Empress.

Wanyu, what the hell are you saying?

Listen, Jiang Luo.

Today,

it’s me who divorce you.

Ban’s Mansion

Take your time.

Come on. lift it up.

Honey,

after all these days,

we’re finally back home.

Yeah. No matter how fancy out there is,

home is the warmest place.

Softy,

take a look at the firewood

and boil some water.

Let’s take a shower later.

Hurry up. Come here. Put the things down.

Madam, may I go to the kitchen

and cook some food for everyone?

OK. Go.

Honey.

Honey. We’re back.

We finally got back.

Does it hurt?

No.

Why do you laugh?

As you know, I used to have some strange dreams.

I dreamed of a man with dark coat.

He has a wound which is right here in his chest.

In order to find the man,

I used to take off Jiang Luo’s clothes.

-Prince Luo. -Your Highness.

But God knew

it was you.

What a small world!

Now, can you believe I’m not

going to go against you?

Look back in our past,

as it were full of thorns.

This is caused by a sword.

This is when I got hit when skating.

This is hit by your horsewhip.

Do you feel better now?

I...

Those were severe injuries.

For the whole life,

you got to take care of me.

Say that again?

The mental injuries I suffered

are uncountable.

Right. It’s my fault.

Now, everything is settled.

Shall we be prepared

for our future?

Be prepared?

What’s it about?

About our wedding,

our retreat,

and

giving birth of children.

But I’m not prepared yet.

How about

we start from today?

You wish.

I want to be on the top.

Long live Your Majesty.

Rise, please.

Thanks. Your Majesty.

I forged the Late Emperor’s imperial edict,

which mistakenly contributed to Prince Luo’s usurpation.

I’m guilty.

Please punish me, Your Majesty.

Count Cheng’an’s forgery of the Late Emperor’s imperial edict

should be convicted and punished.

Your Majesty, it was Jiang Luo’s scheme.

He wants to use my daughter to control Count Cheng’an.

What Duke Jingting said is true.

I can testify for him.

Yes. Your Majesty.

Jiang Luo is the guilty one.

Your Majesty.

Count Cheng’an is the meritorious man

who helped you to get the throne back.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty. His merits offset faults.

Please think twice, Your Majesty.

Thank you for pleading for me.

I appreciate very much.

However, if I didn’t do something wrong,

Jiang Luo wouldn’t succeed.

The famine could be solved earlier.

In the past few months,

thousands of famine victims

and countless people died of starvation.

Other than Jiang Luo,

I’m also the one to blame.

I can’t forgive myself.

I don’t deserve to work for Your Majesty.

So, may I ask Your Majesty

to deprive my official title

and never allow me to have an official career?

Your Majesty.

There’re tons of official works to be undertaken.

I hope you can think twice for the people.

I see.

Hua, why don’t you say something for him?

I’ve heard

your voices.

Count Cheng’an forged the Late Emperor’s imperial edict.

That’s undoubtedly unforgivable.

Listen, Count Cheng’an.

Yes. Your Majesty.

When I live in the army,

I saw how you and Ban Hua deal with the military affairs

and how you treat the people.

I admire that very much.

Such a genius,

I definitely won’t allow you to retreat.

I’m going to punish you

by taking the responsibility of

the people’s lives and happiness.

I decided

to abdicate my throne

to Count Cheng’an.

What?

No. You can’t do that.

Your Majesty.

That’s ridiculous.

It’s not a game like

you can play as you want.

In this case,

how can you live up to the Late Emperor’s trust?

Mother is right.

Princess Ban and Count Cheng’an just ceased the turbulence.

It’s time for you to win Daye the stability,

instead of arising other problems.

It’s related to the people’s livehood.

Please think twice, Your Majesty.

To avoid the turbulence of state,

please think twice, Your Majesty.

You all have made yourself clear.

But I’ve made up my mind.

No need to say anything more.

Rise, please.

I can’t accept that, Your Majesty.

Please withdraw your order, Your Majesty.

Count Cheng’an, I’m serious.

Do you want me to be a jerk

who eats his words?

Your Majesty.

You’ve been to the barrens

and seen those poor men who can’t even feed or warm themselves.

They are waiting for you to be the Emperor

to help them away from the misery

and bring them a happy life.

But all you want is

to take off your duties

and be a hands-off manager!

Hua. Don’t be rude.

Your Majesty.

I’m a straightforward girl.

Your decision is

so irresponsible!

Do you take me, Count Cheng’an and the soldiers

as idiots?

We went through all the difficulties to get your throne back.

Do you think we’ve done all this

for your abdication?

That’s so ridiculous! Your Majesty.

Count Cheng’an.

Thanks for allowing me to leave. Your Majesty.

Hua.

The Emperor of Daye

can’t be changed at his will.

What is the throne for him?

Has he ever considered for the people?

I know you’re angry.

But as in the palace, you should watch your mouth.

Count Cheng’an,

That’s His Majesty’s decision.

If you don’t accept that offer,

he can’t force you to do that.

His Majesty...

His Majesty was determined.

It’s not that easy to refuse his offer this time.

I don’t care.

If you promise him,

I won’t speak to you anymore.

Don’t forget

our engagement.

You have my words, Hua.

I never forget

the retreat engagement.

As long as you want,

I’ll go with you

no matter it’s in the deep mountains,

or the end of the earth.

Hua, do you get back together with Count Cheng’an?

OK. I see.

I won’t bother you guys.

Please continue.

Rong Xia got back with the army.

There have been rumors that Count Cheng’an intended to rebel.

Before you abdicate,

have you ever thought about

what the people will think of him?

You’re right, Mother.

The change of Emperor will cause anxiety of the people.

You can’t act at your own will.

I’ll make an announcement that I’m abdicating to the wise.

In that case, Mother and Suyue could relieve.

That’s unbelievable.

If you are not the Emperor,

who else can allow Luo to stay alive?

Mother,

Count Cheng’an has his judgement.

It’s impossible for you to abdicate.

Don’t mention it again.

Such an important decision,

why didn’t you discuss with me before?

Suyue, comparing to the throne,

I prefer to find us a quiet and beautiful courtyard

where we can have elegant and private life.

Don’t you think it’s better for us?

That’s your thoughts.

Not mine.

If you really care about me,

please withdraw your announcement at tomorrow’s court meeting

and restore the imperial disciplines.

Suyue,

do you love me

or my throne?

Of course, I love you.

But the current situation is tense.

The country can’t live through more usurpations.

Please think it over, Your Majesty.

Set me free. Set me free.

If you can set me free,

I promise you to be the Marquis of A Thousand Households,

or Ten Thousand Households.

Is that OK?

Set me free.

Feixian, trust me.

When I get out of here, I’ll promote you to be the Empress.

None of the Emperors will keep the previous one alive

when they own the power.

When the door is open again,

the game is over.

No. No.

It’s not over yet.

I didn’t lose.

The imperial edict has arrived.

Rong Xia, you traitor.

I’m going to kill you.

Jiang Luo was convicted of usurpation and treason.

Shi Feixian was convicted of beguiling Jiang Luo.

I hereby give the couple

life-sentences.

Once a loser, always a loser.

Why not kill me?

This is His Majesty’s order.

You may kill me but you may never insult me.

Where’s Jiang Zhang?

I’m his biological brother!

Where is he? Tell him to meet me here!

His Majesty has authorized me

to work on your penalty.

His Majesty

won’t come.

Authorized you?

I’m the Emperor of Daye.

How dare you rag tag control my fate!

Bearer! Set me Free!

Set me Free!

You. I’m talking to you.

Do you hear me?

Set me Free!

Ban’s Mansion

Never thought the pomegranate tree is still here.

Terrific.

Our parents

must have blessed us

so that we can keep safe and sound.

It starts to bear fruit.

It won’t be long to eat pomegranates.

All you know is eating.

No. No. No.

I was thinking to worship our grandparents

with these pomegranates.

And tell them,

you and Count Cheng’an are together.

Stop talking about me. What about you?

When do you plan to marry Xie Wanyu?

I’m not in a rush to get married.

I’m still young.

Still young?

Listen,

be quick.

Try to give birth to my grandson as soon as you can.

Bear a child?

You can do it.

You little bastard.

You little bastard. Watch your mouth.

We’re too old to have babies.

Cut the crap.

Be serious.

When are you going to propose to Xie Wanyu?

Hey,

are you serious with the relationship

or just for fun?

I’m serious. Of course.

Then, what are you hesitating for?

Because

Xie Wanyu just divorced Prince Luo.

If I propose to her now,

it’ll be like I’m taking advantage of her.

Love is quite magic.

Even Heng won’t take advantage of the others.

Hua.

Don’t forget to visit the Shi

and thank Mr. Shi Jin in person.

Owe to his kindness

can you and Rong Xia be together.

I will.

I won’t forget Mr. Shi’s kindness.

Your Highness.

His Majesty has made up his mind.

Even Empress Dowager can’t persuade him.

May I ask Mr. Shi to use Imperial Guards

to stop him?

Forget it. Your Highness.

Imperial Guards only listen to His Majesty.

Your Highness has crossed the line.

I will act as if nothing had happened today.

Bye.

Jin,

Jiang Zhang is weak and timid. He’s incapable of being an Emperor.

As long as we get rid of Rong Xia

and make Jiang Zhang a puppet,

we can take control of the political and military affairs

and leave Jiang Zhang an easy job. Isn’t that great?

Grandfather just passed away.

Feixian was still in jail.

How could you take her old path again?

Old path?

You mean I should rest on my laurels

just like you did?

Feixian was given a life sentence.

If His Majesty abdicates,

we’ll lose control to everything.

Let lone saving her.

This is the best chance

for us to grasp the power.

Don’t miss it, Jin.

We’ve been through a lot.

Why can’t you still figure it out?

Family is the top priority above all.

Coming back from afar,

did you bring me any fresh stuff?

Do you need fresh sweet potato?

No, not interested.

No?

All I can give you is that.

We’ve been friends for years.

I can’t believe

you didn’t

think of me at all.

I haven’t brought you a gift

but I’m faithful to you as always.

When I was out there,

I sought a marriage for you.

Marriage? With whom?

Miss Sun, daughter of the richest family in town,

who’s a perfect match for you.

Perfect.

You’re the best!

I’m going to find a horse and take off today

to propose to Miss Sun.

Hold on. Sit down.

Come on! What’s the matter? I can’t wait to marry her.

Do me a favor.

Look.

You’re going to propose.

What’re you talking about?

I just want to give

the bracelet to her.

Are you my friend?

Nice try.

Her father looks like a devil.

I won’t go for you.

It seems that

I haven’t told you

Miss Sun’s address yet.

You...

Listen.

I help you not for meeting Miss Sun

but for us.

Our long-lasting friendship.

Tell me. How can I help?

If we knew earlier that Count Cheng’an would be promoted,

we would’ve prepared delicious dishes

to treat the Ban

so that we can ask him

for helping Chongjin on his penalty.

Father, don’t worry.

Chongjin has made amendments for his mistakes.

Let alone that

Wanyu and Ban Heng

are actually very close.

If they get married,

the Bans won’t ignore their in-laws, right?

Qilin.

Sweety, seriously.

If you really like him,

I would propose for you.

Do you like him or not?

If not,

you can stay in the mansion with us for your life.

Your father will take good care of you.

Father, “Man struggle upwards”.

Wanyu was the Empress.

If she marries Ban Heng...

What do you know?

Ban Heng is the brother-in-law of Prime Minister.

Marrying him is “upwards”.

He’s quite good at climbing “upward” to our family.

Don’t say that.

Sweety, do you like him?

Do you need me to propose?

Uh, I’m going back to my room.

Talk to me.

What’s going on?

Our girl flushed.

This is another imperial edict

which the Late Emperor handed to me.

He worried he can’t protect the Bans

if something happens in the court.

Therefore, he issued the edict

to promote you to be Princess Changle.

I’m surprised that

even in his last hours,

His majesty still cared about me.

Thank you for keeping this for me, Your Highness.

This is my favorite fork,

one of the dowries I prepared for the princess.

Now, you’re the princess as well,

I can give it to you.

What can I do for you, Your Highness?

I’ll do my best

and be honest.

Luo is my son.

I should have begged for him.

But I know

what he has done is unforgivable.

I can barely get my mouth open.

His Majesty is kind and merciful.

He definitely would keep Luo alive.

But he said something ridiculous

on the court the day before yesterday.

I wonder what Count Cheng’an would think.

If that’s your concern,

that won’t be a problem, Your Highness.

What Count Cheng’an cares is the people.

He never thought to replace His Majesty.

No matter how determined His Majesty is,

Rong Xia won’t accept the abdication.

Good.

If you don’t have other instructions,

I may leave now.
