[Lost Love In Times]

[Episode 3]

Mentor, I must save you.

Even if it mean sacrificing my life for yours.

It seems that she isn't just an ordinary sorceress.

If you continue this spell, your life will be at risk.

My mentor once told me that

sorceresses can connect through to Heaven and Earth.

If I pray to the gods sincerely, they will surely take pity on me

and let me sacrifice my life for my mentor's.

Even if you do so... It's already too late.

This is entirely my fault.

Elder, how is my mentor?

Make your way to the Scriptures Chamber.

My senior is waiting over there for you.

He wishes to see Qing Chen alone.

I hope you'll understand, Prince Ling.

Your Majesty.

Xi Xie went against the promise

that The Mages made to the imperial family

and stepped in to assist Prince Ling.

This is treason.

What is the current situation?

Prince Ling has escaped from his manor.

Xi Xie should have returned to the Meandering Skies by now.

As for the Meandering Skies...

That is where The Mages reside.

Indeed, it is inappropriate to deploy the army into the Meandering Skies.

We will wait and observe.

What about that unfilial son, Yuan Che?

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, the Crown Prince asks to seek audience.

Father, I've brought Yuan Che home to await further verdict.

I told you to talk that unfilial son out of committing treason

but you ended up assisting him in his rebellion?

Father, would you really--

Would Father really forgo the kinship of father and son?

Yuan Ling is also your son.

He has not once thought of rebelling against you.

Why would Father insist on running him down!

My sons...

No one knows my sons better than I do.

If you remain in the palace, Yuan Ling will come for you.

Take him away.

The imperial family knows no compassion!

Someone once said that Father is no man of benevolence.

I had that man thrown into the dungeon and sentenced to death.

It was because in my mind

Father was benevolent, compassionate, loyal, and affectionate.

But now...

You would even make use of your own son?

It turns out that those rumors aren't rumors after all!

Unfilial son!

Take him away.

Without my permission, no one is allowed to see him.

Yes.

Father!

If you truly know what Yuan Ling is like

you should know he isn't that easy to tackle.

Father, you're on your own now.

Your Majesty...

Thank you for saving me, Your Highness.

Amidst this conflict, if Your Highness hasn't vouched for my innocence

I would have been thrown into the Celestial Dungeon by now.

As the Chief Elder of The Mages

it's too dangerous for Mister Mo to remain in the palace in such times.

In times of crisis as such, I could only keep you safe for a while.

You should return to the Meandering Skies as soon as possible.

Thank you, Your Highness.

Elder Xi Xie was wounded by dark sorcery.

I took the risk in coming over to your manor for fear that

dark sorcery could conceal itself within the premises and harm you.

Dark sorcery?

I'll take more caution.

Thank you for the reminder, Mister Mo.

This is the corn poppy that I've made great efforts to nurse.

Please hand this over to Miss Qing Chen when you return to the Meandering Skies.

How did Your Highness know of Miss Qing Chen?

She has never left the Meandering Skies.

I happened to hear from Elder Xi Xie that all these rare flowers

I've had in my manor these years were all planted and nursed by Miss Qing Chen.

I've now prepared a gift as my way of expressing my gratitude.

I've heard that the corn poppy could bring comfort to one's mind.

Mister Mo could use this as an excuse to return to the Meandering Skies.

I couldn't be of any help to Elder Xi Xie then.

I only hope that the misunderstanding between the imperial family

and The Mages could be resolved soon.

Indeed.

Mentor.

This is the Scriptures Chamber of The Mages.

You can get a glimpse into all matters of the world from here.

Come with me.

Mentor, what is this?

I handed you the jade seal last time.

But the truly important item...

It's this posthumous edict of Great Wei's late emperor.

Mentor, this is an extremely important item.

Why would you...

In this posthumous edict, the truth of Prince Yuan Ling's parentage is revealed.

Prince Ling's parentage?

Prince Ling isn't the son of the reigning emperor, Yuan An.

He's the posthumous child of the late emperor

and his favorite concubine, Mo Lian.

Twenty some years ago

Yuan An killed his brother, took his wife, and overthrew his reign.

After he took the throne

he thought that the late emperor had died

but in fact, The Mages had saved him.

The late emperor hid out here in the Meandering Skies.

Unfortunately, the late emperor suffered devastating injuries.

He couldn't be resuscitated and eventually died in bitterness.

He only left behind the jade seal and this posthumous edict.

What happened to Prince Ling's mother at that time?

Yuan An had long coveted his sister-in-law's beauty.

After he usurped the throne, he dismissed all moral and regulations

to take Mo Lian as his consort.

Little did he know...

Consort Lian was already one month pregnant.

The child she was carrying is Prince Ling.

When did you learn of your true parentage?

The Mages kept this matter confidential.

However, nothing could stay a secret forever.

You purposely came to the Meandering Skies

because you know of your identity?

You lured my senior to the palace knowing that he felt guilty toward you.

It's the contrary.

The imperial court is always in turmoil

when there is a competition for the throne.

Although Yuan An killed my father, I've never thought of overthrowing him.

As long as he could be kind to the people

I could stay out of the imperial court and stop vying with him for the throne.

You have actually already planned a way out for yourself.

That was my only way out.

However, in order to save you, Xi Xie was left with no way out.

I'm grateful for everything you had done to help my mother

in order to keep me alive.

Xi Xie and I used our powers to delay

the birth of Consort Lian's child for two months.

We managed deceive the overly suspicious Yuan An

and protected the late emperor's heir.

If we were to delay the birth of a child with sorcery

blood has to be drawn from the heart

and six blood vessels would be damaged.

The recipient of this sorcery would suffer immense agony in labor

that is worse than death.

That was why Consort Lian is...

Before the late emperor passed away

he left this jade seal and posthumous edict with us.

He entrusted everything to The Mages.

However, at that time, Yuan An had just taken the throne

and the world had begun to settle down.

In order to prevent any conflicts and plunge all lives into misery

as well as for the well-being of everyone in the world

we had no choice but to keep this a secret until this day.

It seems that the emperor has already found out about it.

Even if His Majesty doesn't know of his true parentage

he would have been wary of Prince Ling's achievements and--

- He would still get rid of him. - Mentor.

Qing Chen.

I'll entrust the jade seal and posthumous edict to you today.

Then...

It will be up to you to decide

if you should hand them over to Prince Ling.

Mentor...

My powers are still weak.

I might not be able to take on such a huge responsibility.

Be honest with me.

You have fallen for him, haven't you?

Senior.

How is Elder doing?

Where is Elder Tao Yao?

Elder is here!

Where is your mentor?

Mentor has asked that you wait for him in the Leader's Bureau.

Mentor...

You are all dismissed.

Yes.

I can't leave Elder Tao Yao to safeguard the Meandering Skies alone.

The descendants of The Mages located all over will be chosen

to come into the Meandering Skies if they were born with powers.

I came to the Meandering Skies when I was but an infant.

Since I was a child, my mentor would take my hand and show me around

the Meandering Skies to recognize every little thing.

He taught me very patiently.

Even now, he still worries about my happiness.

I'm too deeply indebted to my mentor.

You're handing them over to me, but what about you?

What are your plans?

The Mages have the duty to protect the imperial family.

If I were convicted as a traitor...

Would you still protect me?

If you're a traitor, I'm a rebel.

I shall stand alongside you.

These two items...

They weigh too heavily upon my shoulders.

Elder Tao Yao was right.

I was too incompetent to leave Elder Xi Xie a way out.

Therefore, however this ends

I will be sure to leave all of you a way out of this.

The Mages will surely give it our all to assist you.

I hope that when Prince Ling takes the throne

you can break the old customs to do what's best for your people.

All you speak of is your mentor and the people.

But you... never once mentioned what you want for yourself.

The only thing I could do for my mentor...

It's to safeguard the Meandering Skies for him

and keep Elder Tao Yao company.

Is this your decision?

My mentor once said...

The two sides of the balance in one's heart are responsibility and affection.

My responsibility is to protect the imperial family.

My affection belongs to the Meandering Skies.

Qing Chen...

Not only are you my responsibility...

But also the commitment of my affection.

Ever since I've been with you

I finally realized what true happiness means.

I wonder if I could also be on both sides of your balance

like The Mages do?

Come here.

We've been trained in sorcery since we were children.

It helps to maintain our youthful appearance.

Who knew that these years have failed to leave their mark on you

but in just one night...

Your hair...

I can't grow old with you anymore.

I can't make you any promises of the secular world.

You should know that I've never cared for any of those formalities.

To me...

The best thing that ever happened to me

is every moment I have spent with you.

I've owed you too much.

Yet I can't repay you much more.

I'm leaving the last hours of my life to you.

This is the only thing I could do for you.

My mentor has entrusted me with an item

to hand over to Elder Tao Yao after he has passed away.

Dream Weaving?

The dream that you've left me...

I'm content.

The world shall have a new ruler.

A wise ruler shall be throned.

Everything that you care about... I'll spend my life safeguarding it.

The Mages...

The people...

The world...

Qing Chen!

Mister Mo!

Why have you returned to the Meandering Skies?

Could it be that in the imperial court--

You've never concerned yourself with matters of the imperial court.

But you're now worried about it?

Mister Mo... Mister Mo, Prince Ling is...

There are no conflict here in the Meandering Skies.

It's such a peaceful land.

This flower is a gift that Prince Zhan has asked me to hand over to you.

Corn poppies?

Do you know what he's trying to say with these flowers?

Corn poppies offers comfort to one's mind.

In the current situation, neither the imperial court nor the Meandering Skies

can stay out of this conflict now.

We cannot afford to lose.

Victory must be attained.

Otherwise, catastrophe shall befall upon The Mages.

If Yuan Ling really takes the risk to save Yuan Che

I'm afraid that there's no chance he can escape unscathed.

General.

Act according to our original plan.

Once I leave, there is no turning back.

Have you really decided?

Yuan An is fatuous and immoral.

There's been years of war.

The people are in great misery.

Even if it were for the sake of Great Wei's people

I have no choice but to do so.

If so, I'll use my powers to tackle the guards in the palace.

You'll be able to enter the palace without putting up a fight.

This is...

You...

It's you?

I've come here specially to see you.

I'm here to see if Father is well.

Unfilial son.

I don't have a son like you!

How should I address you?

Your Majesty?

Uncle?

Or my father's murderer?

Subject, Mo Bu Ping greets Your Majesty.

Mo Bu Ping?

You actually play a part in this?

You would dare rebel against me?

Guards!

Guards!

I believe you have yet to find out

that the imperial guards now answer only to one person.

Guards!

The Mages acts upon the posthumous edict of the late emperor

and the Succession Jade Seal to support the new emperor!

Mo Bu Ping...

You still end up handing those items over to that unfilial son.

You should know better...

Who should be in possession of these items?

I have yet to lose this battle.

Don't you dare forget...

Yuan Che is still in my hands!

I know you all too well.

At such a time, you wouldn't have abandoned him!

I wouldn't abandon him at such a time.

You do know me very well.

Yuan Ling's men were all stationed inside and outside the palace.

Father...

How could you possibly keep me locked up?

I respected you like a father.

Yet you ran me down in every way.

Now that you're in this predicament...

It was because of the choices you made.

You were once my favorite son.

I raised you for 20 years.

20 years!

Without me, how could you command my Black Armor Army?

Yet, you're now going to go against the tide of events.

Warm not a snake in my bosom, that will at last sting me to the heart.

Who knew that you'd want to kill me?

You killed my father.

Humiliated my mother.

Schemed and usurped the throne.

In order to cover up your evil deeds, you stooped to killing all.

You wouldn't even spare The Mages who protect us.

Elder Xi Xie was even killed for it!

All these years, Great Wei has suffered under your reign.

Fatuous ruler.

You're a fatuous ruler!

Yuan Ling, don't!

Let go of me!

Yuan Ling, show him some mercy!

He is still my father after all.

For the sake of Yuan Che...

I can spare your life.

But you're not fit to stay on this throne!

Your Highness, it went as expected.

His Majesty has lost this round.

I heard you.

Your Highness had intended to use His Majesty to get rid of Prince Ling

but now...

I wonder what Your Highness plans to do next?

He was defeated.

But I won't be.

Prince Ling excels in civil and military affairs.

He's restored peace to our lands.

I'm now in my old age.

So as to ensure the prosperity and safety of Great Wei

I follow the example of King Yao and Shun to abdicate my throne to

my fourth son, Yuan Ling!

Ling.

Those brothers who plotted a mutiny are under house arrest

in their respective manors.

What about Yuan Zhan?

When I went over to invite him today

he claimed to be too sick to leave the manor.

All these years, Yuan Ji and Yuan Ming have colluded in secret

but also competed with each other for power.

Yuan Zhan has always steered far from them.

Even with such a huge change in events, he still chose to stay out of it.

Leave him be.

We have just taken over and the situation is yet under control.

All officials harbor different thoughts so there might still be changes.

We must take all sorts of precautions.

Don't worry, Yuan Ling.

I know what to do.

I wouldn't dare to let my guard down.

I feel a lot at ease with you by my side.

Ling, it's just...

In regards to Crown Prince Yuan Hao

he was after all once the appointed apparent heir to the throne.

But now...

I'm worried that he--

Don't worry about him.

Among our brothers, he is the most generous and compassionate one.

Don't worry. I'll pay him a visit.

I knew that I've chosen the right man.

Yuan Hao.

You've just been appointed as the new emperor

and yet you have the time to visit an abolished crown prince?

Yuan Hao, may I sit down?

Yuan Ling...

What do you think this word means?

This is the word, "An."

It means to pacify.

I was appointed by Father as the crown prince when I was a child.

I was brought up to protect and govern the world at any time.

Although that is no longer my task...

Since we share the common goal of bringing peace to the world

it matters not who the ruler is or who the subject is.

Besides, the more authority you wield, the more responsibility you carry.

One careless move and you will end up beyond redemption.

Now that you have taken over my burdens

what have I got to hold a grudge against you for?

I shall keep your words in my mind.

Yuan Ling, you must bear this in mind.

Be it for the nation, the people yourself, or your family

you should always hold true to yourself without regret.

Qing Chen greets Your Majesty.

Get up quickly.

Come.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

You once said you hope that Great Wei will have a wise ruler

and the people will live in peace.

Today, Heaven and Earth shall be my witnesses...

Great Wei's sovereignty as my engagement gift...

Would you be my wife?

Join me in bringing a prosperous and peaceful era to Great Wei.

Qing Chen...

I refuse.

Even with a pledge of a lifetime, I still can't change your mind?

The interests of the nations come before petty romances.

I am but a lowly sorceress.

I'm not worthy of Your Majesty's solemn promise.

I ask that Your Majesty take it back.

Elder Xi Xie sacrificed his life to bring about this new era.

You should protect this world with me so as not to let him down.

According to Great Wei's ancestral code

the harem is not to voice any opinion on state affairs.

If I were to be your wife, I could no longer protect Great Wei with you.

I shall remain with The Mages to act as your sharpest weapon.

Whatever you command, I shall comply.

A true mutual love...

That is what an emperor finds the hardest to attain.

I hope that you can stay by my side.

We will witness a prosperous era never before seen.

Look into your heart.

I won't force you.

I'll wait till you answer me.

Your Highness.

I've used sorcery to turn back the flowering season.

The room is filled with fragrance.

Is Your Highness pleased with it?

I've spent years nursing these flowers till they bloom in splendor.

Now, they are finally going to welcome our visitor.

Go on.

Our honorable guest will be here soon.

Yes.

I won't be the one to witness the peaceful era with him.

It smells so lovely!

Yes, it smells so nice.

What smells so nice?

It's the fragrance of The Mages' 12 Rare Flowers.

Someone could actually make the 12 rare flowers bloom

at the same time after the flowering season?

His Highness knew that an honorable guest would be visiting today.

Please come in, Miss.

This is...

This is Prince Zhan's manor.

His Highness has long been waiting for you.

It's him?

Be it Emperor Emeritus or me...

We both look to Mister Mo for observing astronomical phenomenon

and determining events of auspiciousness or malice.

Mister Mo takes charge of the Astronomy Bureau

and imperial court as well as other sectors should take

Mister Mo's words seriously.

As a descendant of The Mages

it is my rightful duty to serve the imperial family.

Since I took the throne

there has been much to handle in the six palaces of the harem.

I don't have the time to manage them.

I can't put off the appointment of the empress much longer.

The auspicious date of my wedding will affect the nation's fortune.

Mister Mo.

I'll leave this matter to The Mages.

Your Majesty, the candidates for the position of the empress--

I have already chosen one.

You just have to select the auspicious date.

Your Majesty.

According to the ancestral code

the auspicious date of an emperor's wedding

is always selected by the Grand Sorceress.

However, it has been a century since a Grand Sorceress was born.

Judging by Mister Mo's words...

If the Grand Sorceress is yet to be reborn after a century

I wouldn't be able to appoint my empress?

That wasn't what I meant.

It's just that in three days' time

The Mages will be testing the sorceresses every five years

to identify the Grand Sorceress.

If the Grand Sorceress has been reborn

she could then perform divination to select

an auspicious date for Your Majesty's wedding.

If there is still none this year?

Then...

According to the former practices, Elder Tao Yao will do so in her stead.

That's good to know.

Three days later, I shall be present at the Grand Sorceress's test.

Miss?

Let's get going?

His Highness is already waiting for you in the room.

After you.

Qing Chen?

Your Highness knows who I am?

The fragrance of these flowers is prepared especially for you.

How would Your Highness know that I would be here?

With that thought in mind, whoever visits is fated.

The fragrance has drifted ten miles from here.

Your Highness's way of invitation is quite special.

It was the flowers that drew us together.

We just never got to meet.

Now that we have finally met, I regret not having met you sooner.

Your Highness asked Mister Mo to bring me the corn poppies.

I like them a lot.

However, I didn't have the chance to thank you in person.

It's just a gift in return.

All these years, if it weren't for your green thumbs

these rare flowers in my manor might have all withered by now.

I should be the one to thank you instead.

I might be able to revive these rare flowers

but I have yet the powers to turn back the flowering season in a day.

Your Highness seems to be even more skilled than I am.

I'm flattered.

The flowers might be rare but a bosom friend is even harder to find.

It's my honor to be admiring these flowers with Miss Qing Chen.

Ice blossoms with green calyx.

They only grow on Ice Mountain.

This is the Manjusaka.

It only grows on red soil.

When it blossoms, no leaves are left.

When there are leaves, no flowers bloom.

Never will leaves and flowers meet.

It's known as the flower of the other shore.

This flower was given to me by the current emperor.

Before he was throned, he once went to war in the Western Regions.

He traveled great distances

across mountains and rivers to retrieve this flower.

The current emperor...

Guards! Arrest the assassin!

Miss Qing Chen, are you all right?
