My mother saw that it was taking a toll.

So she started a tradition.

The first day in a new place,
she'd take me to the nearest market

and we'd try all the local
foods, and I mean everything.

I don't know what it was,
but every single time,

one of them would make
me feel like I'm home.

It gave me this whole new appreciation
for the power of food, you know?

It connects us to each other.

our differences are,
