rules for a brand new temporary squad

leader I'm busy that's what I like a

real friendly crowd yeah aye sir fellas

looks like gonna have ourselves a long

night here come well I always did like

playing poker in the rain when Nevada

object is gonna be a German road walk

it's two reports us about a mile north

of here

my lieutenant wants you to pick out a

couple of men I go out on patrol Scout

it check on the German defenses they're

right

about a change of mind no oh yeah gee I

forgot you got to pick yourself a couple

of heroes don't you yep

I was thinking of you and me Jackson

just a routine patrol look for patrols

don't bother me none but breaking up a

winning streak to go out in a rainstorm

it's got to be illegal right Tommy

I'll go cage

Thomas are you nuts it's pouring cats

and dogs part ducked honest boy some

people need a head examined

who asked you Marcus what'd he say cage

we still in LA volunteers and this men's

army it's okay I'll go I don't mind the

rain and I don't really like poker all

right Thomas get your things up fellas I

have seen about everything what are you

talking about

you heard your sergeant's own

hand-picked squad leader okay

or maybe cage isn't capable of making

the decision or maybe I should have been

made squad leader what's the matter with

me anyway my feet too long my helmet on

wrong but I know how to handle myself

you know how to handle yourself all

right I've been watching you for three

days ever since you came to this platoon

I always take care of number one don't

you

remember avoid contact and check the

routes of approach in the locations of

the German machine guns hey Tommy

don't you worry about losing a thing

you're all buddy Jackson here is going

to take care of you

yes sir 10% of everything I win in this

game is going in a little pile just for

you

10% for me you'll do better than if you

stayed here and played for yourself

now let's see where were we oh yeah

little uh five cardrona matter cover you

putting the game and Doc's supposed to

take a look at my room now you hurry

right back boy yes sir you know my

little old gray-haired mother she sure

did love this game she really have a

infection in his arm I think you ought

to see a doctor

yeah me too Sarge you'll never get away

with it Derby not with Saunders he

doesn't play favorites well get going

hey thanks Sarge you know something

Hicks I've often heard it said but I

never believed it till now that in this

war it's not what you know it's who you

know that counts

it's my bed right I'll try 50 francs

I call you I'll raise you 50

you raise me 50 all right

I call that and I'll raise you hundred

francs

hey I can oust a green

the virus

another would suck on a lot force

that sounds like they're gonna do a lot

of softening up well don't let it go to

your head the more of our planes going

over the more Krauts we're going to have

to tangle with when we move in these

bets ace-queen butts 50

verse 6 is Queens the Jackson Zeus's

nothing 150 I'll bump that 100 what am i

doing you got a pair great well I did it

full take it easy

I'll see you arrays your 50 can't you

see that

hey Doc would you like to play why don't

you get in here's my need on the game

well you're just breaking my heart

all right I don't believe you got that

two pair there I'm gonna bump you

I got a two pair all right what do you

know he got him however they're not

quite as good as three deuces are they

few more Bart's for the Jackson Aid

Society and 10% for tummy pelvis

you get to see the roadblock yeah I saw

it it's gonna be tough doesn't cross a

soul machine guns come on let's go

now the only point we have to worry

about is over there somewhere in there

there's a machine-gun nest once on the

other side we're home free

that's a lot of open space well we made

it coming we'll make it going back Tom

I'm gonna go across the other side to

give you cover in case you need it now

don't move until then understand all

right cover me

he hates job

are you alright

all right listen today

dog toys cross here way to the left by

the trash

damn about the roadblock put you won't

get out they'll kill your keys don't

kill you shut doors outside

go back

you

damn hey Tommy you're crazy for what did

you do that for

you should have volunteered here for for

no reason you should have come here

I had time oh I had

yeah Jackson he knows but have happened

you're gonna get me back

aren't you Kate I am I am Tommy

my race

Hey Little John the bet is around are

you you're gonna play doc love me 500

friends

I'll raise you 250

I gotta keep you out

I was a big pond for such a small pair

yeah why don't you quit now doc here's

your money back now lay off people yeah

let's try a little plain old-fashioned

open on anything guts yeah that's a very

fine game to play yeah

sorry yeah

Little John's losing his shirt out there

so well it's money he was saving for

back home after the wars he's got this

girl back there and now he hasn't heard

from I got a squad leader not a mailman

all right doctor I'll take yours

what do you know the medic is a chaplain

to what you do in civilian life sunny I

was a bouncer not kidding my little old

gray-haired mother used to tell me son

always admire a man with a sense of

humor

Jackson you went around yeah yeah man

how did it go I mean come on

you went in there to get mother handle

look after a lost chicken I've had a

view

where's the Sarge he's over there

all of the time stoppage or just coming

in I can make up roadblocks well-guarded

doesn't a snowman a lot of them coming

in machine-gun lieutenant

looks like it's gonna be rough Krauts

are dug in tight reinforced spittoon yes

sir what's wrong

Thomas got it

he's dead he once lost my contact I know

that but we had to go through an open

space

machine-gun nests putting us down

you got it saving me

you should have made Jackson go thomas

volunteer didn't I know

but not there he told me he had to he

had to what I don't know

but he said that Jackson knew what

happened

little jagged on the phone

why is everyone afraid to mention it to

of one out today no I won't come back

come on Hicks well he's dead it's me

sergeant had taken over Little John's

hand the bet is around to you how long

did you know private Thomas checks me

not too low we were together in the same

outfit before we got transferred to

Henry's platoon maybe two months why you

like each other yeah we're real buddies

why the Thomas a different gauge should

he have

what is this a third degree huh that's

too bad about Thomas don't nobody's got

any guarantees anybody can get it

anytime

you'd stop me if I'm wrong but you've

had men volunteer for patrols before

right

you should Thomas volunteered you sure

hey Sarge medic lights on the phone they

want to keep Kirby for a couple of days

I want to talk to you

oh boy this this war is a left pipe

cinch if you got friends in the right

places you know I get the business cuz

AG a guy volunteers for me he and his

buddy

gets a couple of days free ride because

he got a lousy scratch

what are we what well will we plan here

what is this ugh gut

sounds like a lot of planes

alright fellas come on will ya

spoon poker

Marcus did you see me did you see me

whole life to Thomas's throat

but I twist this I'm back I'd make him

volunteer huh

just let some sergeant come in and start

talking about something you don't know

anything about the end and by the way

the big freeze is on huh

how'd it happen cage Thomas was killed

saving my life Sheehan gun nests had me

pinned on the mud hole he ran right in

their line of fire with a grenade wipe

them up

hey come on will you Kate you think

anybody's gonna swallow that I knew

Tommy see I served with him in the same

outfit don't tell me he was a hero

he cost two men their lives that's right

they they investigated him for it you

know what happened they had to drop the

charges he because of insufficient

evidence but everybody know that this

kid was a coward I mean come on all

company knew it that's what Thomas was

afraid of that you tell us about it

that's why you did everything you asked

him that's why you volunteered

let's Braylon 5-card study

all right saddle up and me but I'm

handling and moving it under the

authorities pleasure hey sis here second

Platoon cake company what are you doing

here

as somebody got some wires crossed

hey you guys know what those guys back

there do sit around talking about how

much fun you have it up here what about

the screwballs up hey Sarge you would

make me carry the VAR would you I mean

I'm still wounded you know it takes

pretty heavy I'll carry it for your

goldbrick hey yeah good trip Lujan I

tell you what I'll carry your pack Hey

thank you

and you fella see my helmet

oh here it is

hey Britta nobody you want to give me a

hand getting this raincoat on come over

here

all right

you're like that so self-righteous are

so holier-than-thou I'm gonna give it to

you straight

yeah yeah I gave Tommy the business

that's right you know why because he had

it coming through because they did was a

coward I know what I'm talking about

I've seen it ever since of our Beach you

know how many guys there are my squad

that came over with me that is still

alive me that's it that's all just me

half of them got us two days after we

landed and the last crew ever got in

you
