I would have to say, without a doubt.

I have rarely interviewed

a more rational, self-aware individual.

disconcerted by this particular, man.

A metaphor for your myriad religious texts

the box or x-ray it,

or in any way find out
for sure what's inside,

except to take the word
of someone you trust.

Now that person has never
seen the inside of the box.

They got it from someone they trust

and so on and so on for generations past.

Now suppose a distant neighbor approaches

and they have an identical box,

but they were told by
someone they trust completely

that the box contains a scarf.

Now you're not to be
faulted if you believe

the boxes contain clocks, not scarves,

you have faith in the
people that told you so.

But only a deluded
person could ever insist

that they know for a
fact what's in the box,

because they don't.

And if they're moral they would never

condemn their neighbor for
holding an opposing belief.

And only the insane would
try to force acceptance

of one uncertainty upon another.

For most of you, your
spiritual quest extends

from your front door to
the first sign that says,

"you have arrived".

There's a road continuing on
past that sign in clear view.

Why do you refuse to see it?
