Marry Me

Episode 34

Something big is going to happen here tonight.

Staying here will be dangerous.

I've notified Xiao Liu to wait for you outside.

Don't wait. You must leave.

No.

I can't leave.

You....

Who's there?

Go.

Just as you said,

the people of Kun Palace have surrounded these spots.

Is the Empress Dowager taking Shu Bo seriously?

As per your plan,

I've made the necessary arrangements.

After the carriage left Long Fei's shack,

I sent my men to intercept those guards.

They confessed their crimes.

They relayed every detail before the Empress Dowager.

Shu Bo purportedly said...

that he'd do whatever it takes to kill Xiao Bao.

Now, Her Majesty should know why we didn't allow Xiao Bao to go to the palace.

I was going to take care of Long Teng tonight,

but who knew my stupid daughter would ruin the plan?

My lord,

if the young lady continues to interfere,

it might disrupt our plans.

If Chen'er...

insists on helping Long Teng and disobey me,

then she...

must not be allowed to live.

When needed,

get it done.

Understood.

There's one more plan that requires your assistance.

Despite what you did the previous time,

I know what it is that should...

and should not be done.

This matter concerns the royal family.

I'll definitely do my best to help.

But you moved Xiao Bao a day early.

Where did you hide him really?

As for that, it's best to have less people know.

Don't worry.

Xiao Bao will return to the palace very soon.

Seems like you're still guarded against me.

You're overthinking it.

I just don't want too many people to know about it,

in case word got out.

Besides, the secret guards would soon realise...

that the carriage is fake.

We were duped.

We have men stationed at every major road.

At any sighting of a carriage,

investigate it and kill on on board.

Long Residence

Please hold, Ms Ju.

You can't enter without Young Master Yue's permission.

I'm Mrs Long Yue.

Why can't I go in?

Please pass the message.

I have something urgent to tell Young Master Yue.

Long Residence

It's Young Master Yue's order not to let you enter.

He also said that you're no longer a member of the Long family.

You have no ties to the Long family.

So, please leave.

Young Master Yue doesn't get to decide to end our relationship by himself.

I must talk to him face-to-face.

Ms Ju.

If you must defy the order,

us, the servants, would be held responsible.

Please do not make it harder for either side.

You should leave.

Is there anyone else with authority in the residence?

Please don't make a scene, Ms Ju.

Just go.

You could at least tell me where Young Master Yue is.

Long Residence

He didn't say.

It's not in our place to ask.

Young Master.

It's Mu'er, Young Master!

-I have to talk to you urgently! -Ms Ju...

-Young Master Yue! -Please don't make things difficult.

Long Yue, what happened?

Brother, Ms Shu.

It was thanks to Ms Shu's help...

that you could get out of prison sooner.

We were chased by Kun Palace's guards the whole way.

Looks like Shu Bo and Yun Qing Xian are not letting us Longs off.

I'm afraid the situation is more complicated than we thought.

In order to ensure Long Fei and Feng Wu could get through,

Ms Shu and I decided to break you out of prison at this time.

It was to split up Yun Qing Xian's forces.

What is going on exactly?

To capture Xiao Bao, Yun Qing Xian...

gave a kill order on Long Fei and Feng Wu.

Keeping Xiao Bao by their side at this time is not the best idea.

So we moved Xiao Bao earlier on.

The carriage that Long Fei and Feng Wu took...

was an empty one from the Empress Dowager.

So is Xiao Bao safe?

Only you can escort Xiao Bao into the palace.

Where is Xiao Bao?

Rest assured, Your Majesty.

Xiao Bao is safe.

But you must know what's going on after this incident.

Shu Bo is intent on killing Xiao Bao.

So even if Xiao Bao was in the palace with you,

it doesn't guarantee his safety.

You're worried that...

Shu Bo would risk everything to kill Xiao Bao?

That's right.

Because Xiao Bao is His Majesty's biological son.

Hence, Shu Bo is not holding anything back to get rid of him.

After all, in the harem,

only Noble Consort Shu has a prince.

The other concubines are without child.

As such, Xiao Bao is blocking a certain someone from the throne.

I understand.

Before Xiao Bao comes to the palace,

you wish to eliminate all possible threats.

Am I right?

The assassination attempt,

if you hadn't purposely let word out,

how would Shu Bo have known the whereabouts of Xiao Bao?

Nonetheless,

everything the Long family does is out of loyalty.

It is not for personal gain.

Your Majesty must understand.

A profiteer like you...

does seem to be more perceptive than most.

I wouldn't dare to play any tricks in front of Your Majesty.

But for the last step,

I implore Your Majesty to step forth.

It would ensure success.

Shangyang Gate

They're here.

Greetings, Your Majesty.

Xiao Bao greets Her Majesty.

Good boy.

You'll address me differently once you're in the palace.

I was able to safely return to the palace this time...

thanks to the sacrifices of many.

I hope Your Majesty would grant them protection.

I am guilty of breaking out of prison.

As one who has committed a crime,

I wouldn't dare to ask for the emperor and Your Majesty's pardon.

The Long family did good in escorting the prince home.

As for breaking out of prison,

we'll investigate the matter again...

and let the emperor decide later.

Stand up, Lord Long.

Long Teng,

I order you to make up for your wrong...

by escorting us back to the palace.

Understood.

Your Majesty, Long Teng's breaking out of prison...

was also part of Long Yue's plan.

Last night's sudden scramble...

weakened Shu Bo's forces quite a bit.

Since my father and Long Teng are now here,

I'd like to take my leave...

to assist Long Yue in capturing Yun Qing Xian.

I will personally escort Your Majesty.

I'd like to see...

who dares overstep the boundaries again.

Long Yue greets Her Majesty.

You're injured. Save the formalities.

Thank you.

Within the palace,

we'd have to rely on you.

As for matters outside, the Long family will take care of them.

By order of Young Master Yue,

Ms Ju is not allowed within the Long residence.

You are trespassing!

Come with us quietly.

Is Young Master Yue really that heartless?

Get her.

Did you really come to steal, Ms Ju?

You can't blame us for being heavy-handed.

Take her to the court.

-Go. -Stop!

What happened?

Young Master,

Ms Ju previously tried to enter the residence by force.

The servants stopped her.

But now,

she actually trespassed the grounds and stole your belonging.

As per your order,

I will now take her to the court.

Do you know what you're doing?

Of course.

If I weren't desperate,

I wouldn't have resorted to this.

Do you have it?

I brought what you want.

Now, let my father go.

Bring him here.

Bring him.

Go.

Move.

Mu'er.

Father!

Mu'er, you mustn't give in to their threats.

I'm an old man. My life is dispensable.

But you... You must live.

Father.

I won't let anything happen to you.

Father!

Yun Qing Xian.

I did as you said and brought the item.

You said you'd let my father go.

If you disregard your word,

I'd just have to go down with you.

Why so nervous?

Once I have the jade pendant,

your father is worthless to me.

I never said I won't release him.

Don't worry.

I'm a man of my word.

Give me the pendant,

and your father is free to go.

Mu'er!

My lord.

Your father is in my hand...

and you dared play tricks?

I knew it.

You wouldn't bring me the real thing.

A wife that was kicked out?

The Long family wouldn't give her the jade pendant.

Yun Qing Xian, you seem to be belittling me.

You!

A cripple like you...

has the guts to challenge me?

Hand over the pendant!

Or else,

no one is getting out of here alive.

Surround the area!

We must not let the culprit escape today.

Yes!

We're going to retrieve the catch.

With your help, every possible escape route has been stubbed.

No matter how great Yun Qing Xian is, he won't get away.

Young Master, he is cunning.

Don't fall for it.

My boy, get Mu'er out of here.

Don't mind me.

You must not let this crook get his way.

None of us would survive if you give him what he wants.

Get out of here!

Stubborn man.

Yun Qing Xian.

You want the pendant, right?

-Kill him. -Yes.

Father!

Father.

-Are you all right? -I'm okay.

So...

You guys planned everything.

I had actually set this trap...

to use on Shu Bo.

But you jumped the line.

Young Master Yue and I together will make sure you're dealt with.

Come, let me see.

Those guys are too rough on you.

Sorry about that.

A minor bruise is nothing.

No need to blame yourself.

Once this matter is concluded,

I'll make sure to let everyone know...

that you're Mrs Long Yue.

There can be none other than you.

I know your true feelings.

But right now,

Yun Qing Xian's spies are everywhere.

We must be cautious.

As for the Empress Dowager,

we have Prince De's help in receiving Xiao Bao at the palace.

So our next move is...

to capture Yun Qing Xian.

After all, he's the key in Shu Bo's master plan.

But...

this matter concerns your father.

He will suffer some mistreatment.

Yun Qing Xian and Shu Bo will be answering to the crime.

So we must catch him alive.

As for my father,

he'd understand.

Don't worry.

I've asked Long Fei to track your father down.

He's safe for now.

I believe you.

Quick, surround them!

-Arrest them! -Yes.

Shu Residence

Why don't I go inside with you?

I can back you up if anything happens.

There's no need.

We're father and daughter.

He may want me gone,

but...

I'm not ready to forsake him.

I'll wait here then.

If anything happens,

call for me.

You have the audacity to come back?

If not for you,

the Shu family wouldn't be in this dire state.

-Father. -Do not call me that!

I don't have an ungrateful daughter like you.

Even if you hate me,

I do not regret what I've done.

Long Teng is outside.

He came to take you to answer to the emperor.

Since he came with you,

why did he stay outside?

Is he not worried that I would be furious with you...

and took it out on you?

If killing me...

is the only way for you to vent,

then I'm willing to accept it.

Back then,

you took me in.

I owe my life to you.

I had the chance to live a good life,

and I've been grateful.

Grateful?

You're the one who ruined the Shus.

You dare say you're grateful?

In my heart,

you're always my father.

Nothing can change this fact.

Believe it or not, what I did was for the sake of the Shu family.

What I hold onto is nothing more than the truth.

I hope you can understand.

It's all in the past.

Pursuing this matter...

won't change anything.

I don't expect you to do much for the Shu family.

But I hope you can promise me one thing.

No matter what becomes of the Shu family,

you must make sure your aunt stays alive.

Alright, I will do everything I can...

to ensure the Shus safety.

Okay.

I'll go to the palace with you.

I've taken every precaution,

but I didn't think...

I'd lose to the Longs.

You lost to yourself, no one else.

The Shu family is powerful.

No one is close to your status in the government.

A wise man knows how to protect himself.

You wouldn't be in this predicament...

had you not chosen the wrong path.

It was my own doing.

This girl here never had much of an opinion since young.

But since meeting you,

it's as if she totally changed.

I was unable to reign her in.

You're the one she chose.

In the future,

I will not decide for her,

nor do I have the right to.

Thank you for all you've done for her thus far.

She kept butting heads with us Shus.

I had thought about killing her.

But this foolish girl still regards me as her father.

Therefore, let me to say this.

From today onward,

Shu Ruo Chen is no longer a member of the Shu family.

From now on, the one who will protect her...

is you, Long Teng.

Whatever happens,

you're her only way out.

Understood?

Father.

You're only going home for a few days.

Why did you pack everything?

You're coming back, right? I'm going to be upset.

You asked for the divorce straight from the Empress Dowager.

If I don't pack up and leave,

I'm disobeying royal order.

Come on, we already agreed...

to act this out, right?

Yes, we are just pretending.

But my father doesn't know that.

He must be very upset about what happened.

Right, I should've paid it more attention.

I'll personally go to your house to ask your father for forgiveness.

So please,

be understanding.

My father cares a lot about reputation.

Our parting and getting back together is an act as well as fact.

If you want me to come back here,

you'll have to think of a better plan...

to convince my father to willingly let me.

One more thing.

I packed my things because I'm going home for a few days...

to look after my father.

Nothing more.

Don't overthink it.

Alright.

Once everything is settled,

I'll pay a visit to my father-in-law to cheer him up.

If he won't forgive me,

I'll just kneel in front of the house.

But the most pressing matter now...

is Yun Qing Xian.

No.

I should go and oversee things to make sure nothing is wrong.

Are you okay, Young Master?

Alright.

Now,

you should come with me to the palace.

My son,

do you know what this royal city contains?

Naturally, there's the Son of Heaven,

our revered emperor.

There is only one ruler.

But the world is vast,

and everyone has their own piece of haven.

There's no need to risk everything to be in this city.

You're right, Father.

I know my mistake.

In my eyes,

you're still a little boy.

I never realised how ambitious you were.

Fortunately, I was able to stop you from making a huge mistake.

I was rash.

I let greed cloud my judgment.

I had thought having this power...

would grant me control over the world.

The incident with Xiao Bao taught me an important lesson.

Sometimes,

you may have gained one thing...

but also lost even more.

I'm glad you learned the principle.

As courtiers,

we have heavy responsibilities.

We not only serve the emperor,

but more importantly, the people.

We first need to help the people...

in order to be deserving of this title.

Remember this, son.

Our life's mission is to ensure the nation is peaceful and prosperous.

I will keep your words to heart.

Only if the people are content,

do we have a place to be.

I have much to learn from you, Father.

Once is enough when taking the wrong path.

You're not always so lucky to be able to recover.

If there had been a mishap,

the whole courtier's household would've been implicated.

I was wrong.

Since you know your mistake,

we should set out now.

Bring all those who threaten the sovereignty to justice.

Will this matter be concluded smoothly?

Don't worry.

The evidence is there.

I'm sure they will be fine.

But concealing the royal prince is a serious offence.

The Empress Dowager had asked us to attend the hearing.

It must mean she trusts us.

I believe...

that everyone would be fine.

Your Majesty,

the mother and son jade pendant is here. Take a look.

Check the item.

Yes.

Your Majesty.

The mother and son pendant Lord Shi Ze Chun carried with him...

was specially made by jade jewellers in the palace.

The authenticity can be easily checked.

It would then reveal to us Yun Qing Xian's connection to Lord Shi.

Your Majesty,

this is indeed a jade pendant created by the past jeweller.

I can confirm it.

Your Majesty,

I know Yun Qing Xian's relationship with Lord Shi better than anyone.

I had helped Yun Qing Xian in settling down in the capital.

Back then, his great aspiration was to serve Datong.

But it's a different story now.

What great aspiration?

Shi Ze Chun destroyed that dream long ago.

He...

is nothing more than a polite hypocrite.

Your mother asked you to come?

I don't have much.

I could only give her a simple burial.

Mother only revealed my identity to me...

before she passed away.

That's why I came to the capital to look for you.

Did anyone see you coming to Shi Residence?

Father, I...

Don't call me father.

I'm unworthy.

Take this money and leave.

Make sure no one sees you on the way out.

I broke off ties with your mother a long time ago.

I never knew of your existence.

I hope we'll stay out of each other's way.

Go now.

For so long,

you paid no attention to my mother and I.

But she pined for you the whole time.

How could you be so heartless?

Where's your conscience?

Take a good look.

This is Shi Residence.

Your surname is Yun.

If everyone who came knocking claimed to be descendants of Shi,

this place would turn into a relief centre.

But I'm your biological son.

You don't believe me?

You can get uncle to verify it.

There's no need.

Since the day you were born,

your mother never intended for you to reunite with me.

That's why she named you Yun.

Whereas, in this household,

every one of my blood kin is named Shi.

You're not one of them.

From here on out,

you're on your own.

You better not forget what you've said today.

One day, I'd show you...

the huge price you'd pay...

for your actions today.

I had nowhere to go.

But luckily, I met the crown prince.

I was saved from dying of hunger.

And it was thanks to him,

that I had the opportunity to take the imperial exam.

Nevertheless,

within the officialdom,

Shi Ze Chun and I...

remained as strangers.

So,

you hated Lord Shi for disowning you.

That's why you used Shu Bo to annihilate the Shi family?

You stopped Kun Palace's attempt to kill the royal heir.

I have nothing to say about that.

But the Shi family massacre had been concluded.

How could you now blame it on me?

No need to fret, Lord Shu.

We'll go over the details one by one.

Long Yue, you can say what's on your mind.

Your Majesty.

At the time, a rumour circulated...

that Shi Bo Yin had left the capital due to addiction to his craft.

It was the cause for Noble Consort Shu's miscarriage.

Does that ring any bell, Your Majesties?

Regarding the whole story,

I'd like to get Ji Yan to explain it to Your Majesty.

Servant, summon Ji Yan.

I humbly pay my respect, Your Majesty.

Her Majesty.

What really happened that year?

Ji Yan,

tell us honestly what you know.

Yes.

There was a big feast at the palace that night.

Shi Bo Yin was invited to perform at the party.

As the party was nearing its end,

I took the chance...

to pass the two infants to Shi Bo Yin.

I asked him to bring them out of the palace.

But...

Quick, come with me!

There are suddenly so many men from Kun Palace in the palace.

Shu Bo must have found out.

If we do anything rash,

I'm afraid you, me and even the two babies would be in danger.

When we made the decision to interfere,

we should already be prepared for the worst.

Whatever happens,

we need to protect the two heirs.

Shu Bo is ruthless.

If the two infants end up with the Shu family,

they'd be secretly killed.

We'll follow the plan.

Men have been planted in and out of the palace.

The carriage is also ready.

The guard at the entrance had checked.

Take these two babies and leave right away.

Since it'd be too risky to keep them together,

you'd have to keep one at your residence.

I have plans for the other one.

No...

No matter what obstacles I face,

I'm not letting Shu Bo win.

Let's just get through the night.

We can plan the rest later.

What about you?

It will be hard for us to escape together.

I will act as bait.

Hurry and leave with the two babies.

Shi Bo Yin! What are you trying to do?

Your Majesty!

The tune Shi Bo Yin is playing...

It's the Fuxi Score.

Everybody knows that...

the Fuxi Score has the ability to bewitch humans.

Look, Your Majesty!

-My lady! -Dear!

Are you okay, my dear?

-Your Majesty. -What's the matter?

My baby... My baby is...

Someone! Get help!

My dear...

-Your Majesty. -Have you gone mad, Shi Bo Yin?

-Get him! -Yes!

How are you feeling?

-My stomach hurts... -Get the doctor!

-My lady. -Kill him!

Kill him!

Shi Bo Yin had told me to receive them outside the palace.

So I pretended to be a courtesan...

and quietly arranged their escape route.

Your Majesty.

Doctor Wang had diagnosed earlier on...

that the fetus Noble Consort Shu was carrying had died.

The Shus took advantage of Shi Bo Yin's outburst to cover it up.

Their aim was to pursue Shi Bo Yin and frame him.

Meanwhile, to find out where the royal heir is to get rid of him.

Lord Yun.

Ji Yan once said that...

in order to protect the prince's life, Lord Shi was willing..

to put his whole family in danger.

For such a righteous person like him,

why would he turn a blind eye towards you?

Others might not get it,

but do you not know it, Lord Yun?

Lord Shi did not acknowledge you as his son,

he didn't include your name in the family registrar,

all because he wanted to protect you.

If Lord Shi...

truly did not care about you,

why would he have kept the pendant then?

Speaking of which,

I am reminded of an incident.

After the imperial exam,

my loyal servant, Shi, had said good words about Yun Qing Xian to me.

He recommended for you to be appointed.

Yun Qing Xian.

Now, the Shi family was annihilated, the young prince murdered.

Lord Shi was loyal and upright.

As his son,

shouldn't you defend his innocence?

All these years,

Lord Shi had quietly assisted you from behind.

The crown prince helped you back then because Lord Shi asked.

It's a pity...

that you don't realise it yourself.

No...

It can't be.

I asked Shi at the time...

why he favoured you so much.

I asked if there was some connection between you two.

He only did that because he felt guilty.

Shi told me this.

He saw the potential in you.

He said you'd be a great asset to the government.

But being an orphan,

it would be hard for you to gain a footing in government.

With the right help,

you'd then have the opportunity to live up to expectations.

At the time,

Doctor Wang should've been killed straight away when he found out...

the fetus had died in the womb.

Noble Consort Shu had a weak physique.

She failed to conceive again.

She worried about her position in the palace harem.

And so, she threatened Doctor Wang to mistreat the concubines...

who were with child.

That is why till this day,

there has not been a royal heir born in the harem.

Shu Bo!

How dare you!

You had the audacity to murder royal offspring!

All of that...

was my own doing.

I admit my crimes.

Did you not think...

that your evil ways...

would harm Noble Consort Shu's position in the palace??

I had no time to worry about that.

I only wanted to keep my power.

Ji Yan had given birth to twins.

So the child at the Shi household...

died by your hands?

Your Majesty,

Shi Bo Yin had to escape in a hurry.

He took one infant with him...

and tasked Feng Wu to look after him.

As for my other child,

he lived his whole life in a secret room within the Shi Residence.

He had never seen daylight. And ultimately...

Ultimately, he died in the hands of Shu Bo.

The Shi family concealed the royal heir.

They deserved annihilation.

But I never expected Shi Bo Yin...

to give up his own life to protect the other child.

He refused to reveal the truth even till the end.

What a pathetic fool!

The plan I meticulously put together...

had no loopholes.

The reason it failed...

was because I did not expect there to be another prince.

You...

You are evil through and through!

Your Majesties,

Shi Bo Yin chose to die in order to protect Xiao Bao.

He is a hero.

I implore Your Majesties to protect Xiao Bao...

and clear Shi Bo Yin's name.

Long Teng.

I'm here.

Relay my order.

The Shi family massacre,

harming of royal heirs and the death of Consort Li...

will be reinvestigated.

There must not be any misstep.

Those found guilty...

will be punished without fail!

Understood.
