Marry Me

Episode 23

Be careful.

You're carrying a bride who's getting married tomorrow.

Be careful.

Here. This way.

Here it is. Put it down.

It's getting late now.

Let's spend a night here, all right?

All right

My dear bride,

you're going to be someone's wife tomorrow.

Don't be shy.

Come.

Come out.

Careful.

Watch your steps.

You're getting married tomorrow.

You won't look pretty if you scratch your face.

Although this place is shabby,

we're in a hurry,

I'm afraid you'll have to make do with it.

Come.

I've made your bed.

Get some rest now.

I'll leave you be.

Mistress is putting herself in danger by becoming a bait.

You all must keep a close watch on her.

Nothing can happen to her.

But Mistress is now a bait,

where is Chief Long now?

That's right. There is no sign of Chief Long here.

-Oh, no. Mistress! -Mistress! Mistress!

Where did she go?

We've stayed so close to her, there are three of us here watching her.

How did she get abducted?

This is bad.

Mistress has been abducted. What should we do now?

Didn't Chief say he would be hiding in the dark...

to catch him off guard?

Where is Chief now?

Don't panic, everybody. Everything is under control.

Mistress!

Thank goodness.

Mistress, if you weren't abducted by the Fox Spirit,

then who was abducted?

Your leader.

Help.

Is anyone there?

Help.

This Fox Spirit broke into houses...

like ordinary people did.

They're hurt?

How could there be such an ugly woman in the world?

I see you're just a sham.

Let me see how do you look like behind the mask, you bogus.

-Young Master Fei. -Chief, we're here. Chief.

Watch out. It's a poisonous gas.

Don't move, or I'll kill her.

Let go of her!

-Let go. -Let go of Mistress.

Go after them!

Go.

Stop pretending.

You are no Fox Spirit.

You're just a wicked man,

who harms people.

It's Hai Gui.

It's true that he's still alive.

You're not a villager here.

Who are you?

Why did you meddle in my business?

If you could put on a mask and...

harm people using such dirty tricks,

why can't we track you down and take you in?

You should've minded your own business.

You asked for it.

You look quite beautiful,

it would be such as waste to just let you go.

Stay away from me.

Stop struggling uselessly.

You can't run away from me.

Chief,

we can't run anymore.

-We're out of strength. -We can't do it anymore.

They are going that way.

Not to mention that he's bringing Feng Wu with him.

They won't get far.

I have to find Feng Wu,

or else, she could be harmed.

Chief, we've inhaled a lot of poisonous gas just now.

We are unable to use our inner stance at all.

Even if we found his hide,

with our current capabilities,

we are no match for him.

If you force your inner stance,

the poisonous gas could flow back all over your body if you're not careful enough.

You could break all your meridians.

I can't put her in danger.

Because she is...

my woman.

Let go of me!

Feng'er!

Feng'er.

Feng'er, I'm too late.

-How dare you! I'm going to kill you! -Young Master Fei, don't kill him.

He is Hai Gui.

Hai Gui,

His Majesty has shown you mercy and spared your life.

Yet you showed no remorse.

I'm going to apprehend you and bring you to justice.

Young Master Fei!

Young Master Fei!

Young Master Fei!

You're so silly.

Young Master Fei!

Young Master Fei!

Wake up.

Young Master Fei!

Chief! Chief!

Chief!

I told you so, you shouldn't have done that.

Chief was anxious to save Mistress. How would he listen to you?

What exactly happened?

In order to save you,

he used his inner stance to force the poison out,

that damaged his meridians.

Added with these poison darts.

I'm afraid he is in great danger.

Young Master Fei.

I've got an idea.

Temple of Gratitude

Master, this is an emergency.

I need to borrow your qin.

Please forgive me.

Rest assured.

You're seeking justice for the dead.

Your master will understand.

But Ya Li Li is highly skilled in martial arts,

and she's discreet.

I'd better go with you this time.

No.

Young Master Yue, you have something more important to do.

You can't risk big things for the sake of small ones.

Whether we can find the critical evidence...

and the murderer,

it all depends on you.

I'm just a bait.

Mu'er's master,

I'll keep Mu'er safe.

From now on,

I won't let her get hurt anymore.

Ding Sheng invited you to a banquet...

at this juncture. This can't be a good sign.

It could be a set-up against you.

Why don't we come out with some excuses and turn the invitation down?

Ding Sheng sent me an invitation personally.

I would seem guilty if I turn it down now.

Why should I run away from this?

Besides,

although they suspect me,

they have no hard proof.

It's just Ju Mu'er's words against mine.

I would really like to see...

how convincing she is.

Since you have said so,

I'll attend the banquet with you...

no matter what happens.

Please.

I appreciate your hospitality, Lord Ding.

It is our honour to be able to entertain you...

before you and your team...

from the Ximin Kingdom leave the capital.

I have heard that...

The Ximin Kingdom is well-known for qin practitioner.

Lord Ya, ever since you entered the capital,

I haven't...

heard you play.

I've missed the chance...

to witness the superb qin playing technique from the Ximin Kingdom.

It's...

such a pity.

My lord,

the special envoy has just recovered from her illness, she shouldn't be overexerted.

Lord Ding, if you want to listen to music,

I would like to play on behalf of the special envoy...

to entertain you.

Never mind, Lord Hua.

Your skills...

were acknowledged by Her Imperial Majesty.

Everyone knows that.

Lord Ya, I heard that since you entered the capital,

you've been feeling unwell...

and resting in the Music Bureau.

There have been...

many interesting places in the capital lately.

Especially that new stuff...

in the market.

And that Six Arts Court,

many scholars and literati have been visiting that place.

I wonder if you...

have taken a tour around, Lord Ya?

The capital is where the emperor lives,

of course, it's a unique city.

Thanks to Lord Hua's help.

I have learned a lot.

It's just that I'm going home soon,

I can't delay my schedule.

I wonder when I can receive the permit issued by your kingdom,

and if I can leave the kingdom.

Rest assured, my Lord.

The review has been completed.

There is no issue with it.

Today is just a private...

farewell banquet dedicated to you.

However, I have a...

special favour to ask.

Go ahead, Lord Ding.

I have a Qin Master,

who admires you.

So she would like you...

to give her some advice.

Isn't this Second Young Mistress of Long?

I wouldn't dare to bother you.

I heard that the special envoy of Ximin Kingdom is here.

Dare I ask...

if you can...

can exchange qin playing skills with me, Lord Ya?

I heard that the Jinlong Inn is the business of Long.

May I know where is Young Master Yue now?

How could he let his wife come alone?

Why didn't he come together?

My husband doesn't know much about qin.

That's why I'm here on his behalf to welcome the special envoy.

Yin

Yin

Wujin Imperial Guard is on a case.

Whoever dares to stop us, shall be arrested.

Gather all people of the Music Bureau here.

Question them together.

Yes.

Brother, it's them.

Xiao Liu.

Thank you for listening.

Please give me your advice, Lord Ya.

Lord Ya.

I didn't know that there is such talented qin practitioner in the capital.

Mistress Long's skills are impeccable.

It's just that...

Please carry on, my Lord.

Mistress Long, your skills are superb.

However,

perhaps you're unfamiliar with the song.

That's why your double-stop tune...

sounded strained.

No matter how good the qin is,

it is useless...

if you can't play the song well.

Please.

What do you mean by this?

I'm too dim.

Please demonstrate to me, my Lord.

We agreed that you will exchange skills.

Lord Ya, if you're really unwilling to demonstrate,

no one will force you to.

Looks like you are also a qin lover.

In that case,

I shall perform a song for you.

Yin

This...

You should be familiar...

with this string.

Kun Yue string...

was the weapon that you used to murder Consort Li.

What are you talking about?

Careful with that accusation.

If I hadn't intentionally made mistake,

I wouldn't have heard such perfect...

double-stop tune.

People are different in their own way.

Everyone's handwriting is different from each other.

It's natural that the notes we played...

have a subtle difference.

The night when Consort Li was murdered,

the one who played the qin...

must be you, Lord Ya.

Also,

you felt the difference immediately when you touched the string,

that shows that you're very familiar with Kun Yue string.

And this Kun Yue string was the weapon that used to murder Consort Li.

So,

you...

are Lin Yue Yao.

How dare you!

You're just a wife of a commoner.

How dare you make such wild allegation in front of me and Lord Ding?

Do you know what is the penalty for slandering special envoy?

Lord Hua,

then what is the penalty for killing consort...

and trespassing the royal palace?

You...

This is nonsense.

Lord Ding!

I can't stand it anymore.

My lord, I'll walk you out now.

Hold on.

Lord Hua, the special envoy hasn't spoken anything yet.

What are you anxious about?

Do you remember...

ghost sound Fuxi tune was once heard in the palace?

That did happen...

indeed.

There is nothing special about the double-stop tune.

It's common in many songs.

But as I said just now,

everyone has different playing habits,

there will naturally be subtle differences...

in the notes we played.

You used to play Kun Yue qin a lot.

When you pressed slightly harder,

your double-stop and vibrato tunes...

would sound more clearer than other qin practitioner.

And these tunes and...

the ghost sound Fuxi tune that was heard in the palace...

happened to be played by the same person.

That was how you gave yourself away.

This is absolutely absurd.

You assume that I'm the murderer...

by simply listening to music.

Isn't that ridiculous?

Lord Ding, do you really believe her?

These are just words.

Do you have any proof?

The witness is here.

Kneel down.

It's been a while, Ms Lim.

Tell us now...

when the special envoy and her maid entered the Music Bureau.

Yes.

It was the second day after Consort Li was murdered.

Guards, arrest the perpetrator.

Yes.

Hold on.

Who dares to touch the special envoy of the Ximin Kingdom?

I can explain that.

Lord Hua,

an explanation is no longer needed.

I was wrong about you after all.

At this point,

I have no reason to hide my identity anymore.

That's right.

I am that Lin Yue Yao that you are looking for.

But I'm not the murderer.

Consort Li's death has nothing to do with me.

I admit that...

it is true what Mistress Long said.

I was the one who played qin...

that day.

But I am not going to stand here and...

be blamed for something I didn't do.

Sophistry.

Don't try to talk your way out of this.

Lord Ding,

there is no harm in listening to her explanation.

Haven't you always wanted to find out...

the reason I tried so hard...

to sneak into the palace?

At first,

I entered the palace for this qin.

I didn't expect that...

it was actually at Hua Yi Bai's Music Bureau.

I had been planning for a long time.

I chose to make my move on Empress Dowager's birthday feast.

So that I can avoid the guards.

I didn't expect that...

Could it be a false intelligence?

Shi Bo Yin's qin is not in the palace?

Ya Li Li,

special envoy of Ximin Kingdom,

it's been a long time.

Lord Shu,

there isn't any personal enmity between us.

Why do you want to harm me?

You broke into the palace at night.

I should be asking...

the reason you're doing this.

If you want to hold me responsible for breaking into the palace,

you should bring along the guards of Kun Palace to take me away.

Given the current situation,

I wonder what your intentions are, my Lord.

It's true that I was the one...

who played the qin that night.

But it was because I was threatened by Shu Bo.

I didn't expect that...

the song...

would trigger a disruption in the harem.

Consort Li was murdered.

So...

this is the truth...

that you kept from me.

It's none of your business.

I didn't tell you...

because I didn't want to drag you into this.

Lord Ding,

everything I just said is true.

Please be discerning, my Lord.

Lord Ding has been granted full authority over the case.

At your command, Lord Ding.

-Guards. -Yes.

Take the Ximin Kingdom special envoy Ya Li Li...

and Hua Yi Bai of Music Bureau to custody.

Yes.

My lord, I've made it very clear.

Hua Yi Bai has nothing to do with this.

We'll find out about that...

after the investigation.

-Take them away. -Move.

Get up.

You're good.

You are Bo Yin's pupil indeed.

Lord Long and Young Master Yue,

thanks to your help, the case is solved.

I'll report everything...

and ask His Majesty to give rewards.

It's no big deal, Lord Ding.

Assisting the magistrate's casework is everyone's duty.

Lord Long, without further ado,

please come with me...

to arrest Shu Bo.

Lord Long.

Brother.

I got this.

Just go ahead and do your thing.

Lord Ding, lead the way.

Please.

Father,

eat something.

I believe you.

I've been in the officialdom for decades,

I didn't expect I would slip up.

I've now become a laughingstock in the capital.

Did you rule the case wrongly and catch the wrong person?

Or was it the magistrate's mistake?

Right and wrong don't matter here.

The point is who's the person Who is investigating this,

and how he wants the case to be concluded.

If he has an ulterior motive,

even if I am innocent,

I won't be able to defend myself.

Father,

don't worry.

Lord Long has promised...

to plead for you with His Majesty.

I believe that your wrongful arrest of Ji Yan...

must be an honest mistake.

What has your aunt been doing?

Aunt is very worried about you.

She has been pleading with His Majesty and Her Imperial Majesty.

But we can only wait...

for the day when the truth is uncovered.

Criminal Shu Bo has broken the laws.

Guards, remove his jade belt and official hat.

I am the Commander of Kun Palace,

I am under the direct order of His Majesty.

Who dares to touch me?

Lord Ding,

you've got some nerves.

Without the imperial decree,

who dares to order you to do this?

Guards,

apprehend this perpetrator...

and put him on death row.

Do you all have a death wish?

Lord Long, what is going on here?

The long arm of the law has caught up with you.

The truth has finally come to light.

I have ascertained it.

You...

are the mastermind behind the murder of Consort Li.

This is a false accusation.

I must have been framed.

I should clarify this personally to His Majesty.

I see you've chosen to do this the hard way.

You'd better surrender now!

-Father!-Don't.

Father!

Father, be careful!

No, Lord Long!

Ms Shu is right here, I don't want to embarrass you.

Please think it over, my Lord.

Grab him.

Without permission,

no one is allowed to visit him.

Move.

Father!

Father!

-Ms Shu. -Father!

You lied to me.

You promised me you would save him.

You lied to me, you lied to me.

Calm down.

Ms Shu, I didn't expect...

this would be the truth.

I don't care. I'm going to save my father.

I'm going to save my father.

Father!

Ms Shu, what are you doing?

Su Qing, get up.

Get up now.

I trust my father.

Ms Ju, I hope that you can...

continue to investigate the case.

As for the result,

it's up to the magistrate to judge.

But my father,

he had nothing to do with Consort Li.

I will never believe he's the murderer.

There must be...

something else going on here.

Ms Shu,

I can understand your feelings.

And I know your love for your father.

But the witness and evidence are solid.

I...

Mu'er,

Young Lady is not an unreasonable person.

She just wants to know the truth.

Otherwise, this result is unconvincing.

At least let me know...

why he has to die.

Ms Shu,

if I continue to investigate and find hard evidence,

your father could be executed.

Will you regret it by then?

Never.

If my father really did it,

then I would have nothing more to say.

Fine.

You have my word.

Here.

I'll give you an answer...

no matter what.

It's just that the result...

depends on your father's luck.

Now that I have your word,

I'm relieved.

Wait over there later.

Just watch,

as I walk closer to Mu'er,

start throwing these petals on us.

Put in some feelings when you do it.

But, Master,

Don't you think what we're doing right now...

make us look like hooligans on the street?

We are ambushing her.

You know nothing.

I'm doing this...

For the Long family.

Just admit that you like her.

Don't use Long family as your excuse.

What are you murmuring about?

Master, the money you spent over the past few days...

are worth of your expenses over the past six months, right?

That's why...

you're a blockhead.

Being a man is hard,

and being a husband...

is even harder.

Go up there and think about it.

Young Master Yue.

Mu'er...

What a coincidence to see you here, Young Master Yue.

Mu'er.

Wherever Mu'er is,

of course, I'll be there.

Lord Yun, you're usually busy with your work,

why are you so free today?

I actually have an appointment with Mu'er.

I'm here to pick her up.

Lord Yun, you keep calling her Mu'er,

then what positions are you putting Lord Ding...

and Mistress Yun in?

And what position are you putting me in?

My appointment with Mu'er today...

is about Consort Li's case.

Young Master Yue, I suppose as a man who stands by righteousness,

you won't stop us.

Of course.

Mu'er,

I don't care...

about what other people said.

I only care about...

what you say.

I'll believe everything you say.

That's right.

It's true that I have something important...

to discuss with Lord Yun.

I'll come back later.

Mistress Long.

Please.

I'll come back later.

It's improper for those who are not involved...

in the case to participate.

All outsiders,

please go home.
