Twisted Fate of Love

Episode 9

You won’t talk?

You won’t talk?

Stop it.

Put her down.

Who dares?

Soldier

I am here to supervise the case.

Who dares to interrupt?

Put her down.

Yes.

Minister Yan.

The prisoner has confessed all her guilt to His Majesty.

But you’re still torturing her.

Do you want to withdraw her confession?

Pure nonsense.

Soldier.

Tie Minister Yan back to the frame.

I’m trying to have a conversation here.

What, what are you doing? Let me go.

Let me go! Now!

Dongyue,

I’m telling you.

I’m an appointed official.

Court of Judicial Review’s crucial official.

Wait, wait a second.

Wait, wait.

Dongyue, you...!

What are you doing?

I, I’m warning you.

I’m a crucial official of Court of Judicial Review.

Don’t do anything stupid.

Dongyue, you...!

What are you doing!

Minister Yan.

My advice for you is

to think through about my question.

Wait, wait, wait.

You, you can’t do this. You can’t.

You...

Xi,

have you come up with a solution?

Mingzhu will be beheaded soon.

If you can’t think of a solution,

I can only...

You can only what?

Are you going to break into the jail?

I can’t just watch her die.

You have no relations with her,

why are you so nervous?

Mingzhu is the same with me.

We’re both orphans.

The only difference is

that I’ve got you by my side.

But her only younger brother

was murdered by the Deputy Prime Minister.

I also saw him killed by Chi Jinhai

that day with my own eyes.

There are so many irrelevant people in this world.

I’ve only got one sister myself.

You never worry about me.

Xi,

if you’re kept in jail one day.

I’ll definitely try to do something.

Are you cursing me?

I didn’t mean that.

Here.

Be careful.

Dongyue,

I’ve set you up twice before.

I’ll make them up to you now.

Do you mean the time

you made a statement at the Court of Judicial Review?

I only have Xiaosi as my relative in this world.

I had no other options.

Actually, I should have died

the day Xiaosi died.

The reason why I didn’t,

it’s because I feel guilty for you.

I want to keep my life

to find a chance

to give it back to you.

On the night of Marquis An’s banquet,

you asked me to find someone to replace Dongyue.

Mingzhu volunteered right away.

I tried to stop her but failed.

She said that she was forced to frame Dongyue.

She’s still alive to compensate for it.

She looks weak and delicate.

But she knows her own mind.

Xi.

You didn’t see

that she scratched herself multiple scars.

Are you crazy?

I owe it to Dongyue.

There’s nothing else I can do to compensate.

I,

I can only give her my life.

I heard that Dongyue got a firearm wound.

She ironed one on her chest.

I’m not as brave as she is.

Firearm wound?

I’ve forgotten about that.

I have to let someone clean it up.

About this,

it’s my fault.

So, you understand now.

Don’t try to save me impulsively.

Don’t try to turn yourself in, either.

If you do that,

it’s a waste of Minister Feng’s efforts.

I’d still be dead.

I won’t let it happen to you.

We’ll both stay alive.

Feng’s Mansion

You need my help to save Mingzhu, right?

You’re from Yufeng Pavilion.

Why don’t you go and ask the Third Prince?

His Highness is broad-minded.

He’s new at handling state affairs.

I don’t want him to meddle in this for me.

This isn’t an attitude of asking for a favor.

I save lives for you.

What’s the good for me?

You are sophisticated and powerful.

You could bring me out

of Marquis Dingyuan’s Mansion

without harm in broad daylight.

I believe that you’ve got ways

to save Mingzhu.

I can’t tell

if that’s a compliment or

a deprecation.

As long as you can save her,

I’d do anything you want.

Anything I want?

Relax.

I want nothing from you.

That day at Marquis Dingyuan’s Mansion,

you’ve become mine

in front of His Majesty.

I need no conditions

helping my girl.

Is the wound on your chest okay?

Don’t get me wrong.

I’m just worrying about you.

This is a royal ointment.

It effectively helps

heal burns.

It’s a lot better.

That’s good.

Since you’re okay,

come and walk with me on the street.

Seems like your work hasn’t been as busy lately.

Don’t forget

that the Deputy Prime Minister and Lu Yuantong

have always been suspicious about our relationship.

If we’re this remote,

how would they think?

If they dig a little deeper,

and find out about you and Mingzhu.

The consequences

would be devastating.

So,

keep on acting.

Let’s go.

Zhenxin Steamed Bun

Pen Store

Lady, check out the flowers.

I grew them myself.

Pretty.

Welcome next time.

Lady, these are the finest cloths.

Check them out.

Come and see.

This cloth

looks good, too.

Rice Store

Lady, which one do you like? Buy one.

What are you doing?

How can I say?

Your body is almost made of water.

You’re afraid of sun and fire.

I’ve saved your life.

How can I let you get hurt again?

It’d be saving you for nothing.

I only promised you to walk on the street.

Who said that you can get this close with me?

You see.

I’m holding you now.

Whoever sees it

won’t doubt our identities or relationship.

Come, I’ll take you somewhere nice.

Your Highness.

Do you need me to call Dongyue here?

She’s very close

to Feng Xi.

Guess I’ve thought too much.

If Your Highness call her,

she mustn’t resist.

But there are things

that you can’t force others to do.

Let’s go.

Begonia Red

Begonia Red When does it start?

Begonia Red Soon, soon.

Is it a good play?

It’s brilliant.

Dear guests.

I’m so sorry.

The house is full today.

Well, why don’t you come tomorrow?

I’d like to book the entire theater.

The house is full.

Maybe tomorrow?

No, tonight.

I will pay ten times the price.

Ask the host to send them away.

Who is he?

Why is he like that?

Sir, please wait a second.

Feng Xi,

don’t push it.

I’m inviting my girl to watch a play,

I don’t want others to interrupt.

Well...

My apologies, dear guests.

Today’s play

can’t be performed.

This gentleman has booked the theater.

Please don’t worry.

You’ll get a full refund.

I’ll charge for free tomorrow.

I’m sorry.

Take care, see you.

Let’s go.

Please.

Waiter. Tea.

I’m coming.

Enjoy.

Feng Xi.

Though you’re very rich.

You shouldn’t do

such a childish thing.

Watch the play.

What are you afraid of?

There are no other people here.

Years ago,

I’ve watched a Chinese shadow puppetry with someone, too.

It’s just now I’m watching one again,

but I’ve lost touch with that person.

You and me

are thinking about different things.

We want different things, too.

We always can’t escape arguing nor plotting.

We’re rarely with each other quietly.

You always scheme things.

From Marquis Dingyuan to the Third Prince.

From the Deputy Prime Minister to Mingzhu.

You plot about everyone.

Sometimes I wonder

that if you

can be genuine to anyone.

Of course, I can.

But if I can’t protect myself,

sincerity would be penniless.

Pure nonsense.

If one day,

you and I stop seeing each other.

Would you remember

that I’ve

treated you with sincerity once?

Yufeng Pavilion

Have you heard?

Few days ago,

Noble Consort Feng’s maid suddenly went on missing.

Really?

I think her name is Hong’e.

It’s been widely spread in the Palace.

Noble Consort Feng? Isn’t she Feng Xi’s sister?

By the way, today’s Mingzhu’s execution.

I wonder how Feng Xi can save her.

The maid is missing?

Is it...?

See it as a present, please take it.

I own you big this time.

If something’s up in the Ministry of Penalty one day,

I’ll spare no effort.

That’s fine, that’s fine.

See you then.

Feng Xi.

I’ve only asked you to save Mingzhu.

Why would you kill an innocent life?

The Ministry of Penalty needs a body to cover it up.

I can’t just make someone disappear.

Somebody has to die.

Anyway, I’ve saved her life.

It doesn’t matter how.

I heard that a maid of the Noble Consort

called Hong’e disappeared a few days ago.

Why do you come to me

when a maid is missing?

Did you replace Mingzhu with her?

What else do you know?

You can tell me.

You could have bribed the executioner.

Why did you kill someone?

I only promised you to save Mingzhu.

It’s not your business

about how I did it.

Isn’t it Feng Xi’s nature?

Why am I depressed?

Yufeng Pavilion

Marquis Dingyuan’s murdering case is finally over.

But Dongyue, you can’t fool me.

Peace and Health What’s your secret?

Peace and Health Why did you have to kill him?

Murdering Lu Yuantong wasn’t for personal cause.

It’s just because I’ve predicted

that he’d start a war soon.

Then millions of people would die,

the country would be destroyed.

I know it sounds very weird.

Your Highness doesn’t have to believe it.

I believe it.

You predicted that snow in July.

So, I believe it this time.

You tried to prevent a war all by yourself.

I admire so much of your

selflessness and devotion.

Please don’t say that.

I’ve used your help multiple times, too.

From getting into the Court History Bureau

to asking for the fortune stick.

Yufeng Pavilion wouldn’t come this far

if it weren’t for murdering Lu Yuantong.

I’m ashamed in front of you.

From today,

I’ll fight against

Marquis Dingyuan with you.

But as for Feng Xi,

he’s so close to the Marquis.

We must be careful with him.

If anything comes up,

talk to me anytime.

Dingyuan

Father,

I’ve been on a patrol in the sixteen counties

to check on each county’s military training and equipment.

I’ve found something.

All the workers are working from day and night.

But the supplies and materials are insufficient.

They are far less behind than the previous schedule.

In case of delaying the schedule,

I’m sending this letter at the fastest speed.

Please make a decision.

Sincerely, Zhengming.

Seems like it’s time to turn to Feng Xi.

My birthmark.

My birthmark is gone.

You were born pretty.

It’s just people see your birthmark,

it steals their attention to ignore how you look.

Now everything will be fine.

Daole,

what do you think?

Very pretty.

The doctor is great.

From now on,

you’ve become a new person.

With your look now,

even if the Deputy Prime Minister’s fellows stand in front of you,

they probably won’t recognize you.

What you’ve done for me

gives me a brand-new life.

Please get up.

My lord.

I’ve arranged a place to live for Mingzhu.

There’s a family who needs a maid,

it’s 300 miles away from the city.

I know this family.

They’d treat Mingzhu nicely.

It’s a good place to go.

Let her have a rest

and set off in two days.

Yurou.

Now that Mingzhu has changed her face,

nobody knows her in the capital.

Why can’t she stay here?

Mingzhu has grown up in the capital.

You send her to such a remote place

without people by her side.

She doesn’t have people to talk to.

She must be lonely.

Silly.

You are not her.

How can you know if she’s lonely?

Maybe she can forget about the past

to start over

after she leave the capital.

But,

but I’ll miss her.

Xi,

we can afford one more servant.

Let Mingzhu stay and be a maid.

Let her stay.

Daole is correct.

The Mansion can afford one more person.

But we are not in short of servants.

Well...

Mingzhu

is dead.

Since we are changing her name and identity,

she can be a daughter of Feng’s.

Xi, are you serious?

After Feng’s decline,

several relatives lost in touch with us,

there’s no way to prove the identity.

She can be my distantly related niece.

Xi,

since she’s having a new name.

Let me think of one.

Based on your knowledge,

it might take a while.

It has to be a nice name.

Or my niece

won’t forgive you easily.

Xi, don’t worry,

I’m going to tell her now.

My lord,

is it really okay

to let her stay?

I doubt that I can’t

protect the people in my mansion.

Plus,

look how happy he is.

He barely asks anything from me.

I have to help him once.

Mingzhu.

Mingzhu.

Mingzhu.

Xi has said that, to keep you safe,

we’re changing your name and identity.

He agreed to let me think of a name for you.

You?

Do you know how?

Mei, lan, zhu, ju are

all cliche.

Too many people use them.

You’re a very special girl.

You deserve a unique name

for your identity as Xi’s niece.

His niece?

Me?

Xi said that

you will be his distantly related niece.

What’s a good name?

How about

Feng Xiaozhu? [*Xiaozhu sounds the same as piggy]

You’re a piggy.

No, no.

Zhu from Mingzhu.

I don’t want to have anything

to do with Mingzhu.

I don’t want to review my history

of being bullied,

like a bird trapped in cage.

I see.

You don’t want that.

I got it, I got it.

Feng Feiniao. [*Feiniao refers to a flying bird]

Feiniao?

Why not Zoushou? [*Zoushou refers to four-footed animals]

Zoushou?

Feng Zoushou?

It does sound unique.

But it’s not literally beautiful.

What are you thinking all the time?

Even if I’m a bird or an animal,

I’d like to be a flying eagle,

or a jumping fish

which is completely free.

A flying eagle, a jumping fish.

Feiyuan.

Xiaoyuan.

Ziyuan.

Ziyuan.

How’s that?

Ziyuan.

Ziyuan.

It’s a good name.

My name would be Feng Ziyuan now.

Well, you’re young

but smart.

You are only a few months older.

Don’t act like you’re a grown-up

and I’m the kid here.

Sure, sure.

You are the grown-up here.

You are Mr. Daole.

Mr. Daole who hasn’t grown his mustache.

I’ve grown my mustache.

I did, you just didn’t see it.

Why don’t you take a good look?

No.

I’ve cooked tonics for you.

Take a rest.

Yurou.

Ever since you got in Feng’s Mansion,

I’ve been treating you as madam.

You’re well respected.

Things like that

can just be left to the servants.

That’s my duty.

I’ve also said

that though you live here,

you’re still free.

Why bother taking care of me this much?

It’s my own will to do so.

Your Highness.

That’s all the information we’ve got.

Thank you all.

Please go back.

Yes.

Your Highness.

Since Mingzhu’s execution,

there’s no other evidence of the murder case.

There’s no enough proof for

the relationship between the Deputy Prime Minister and Mingzhu.

Currently,

His Majesty has lifted his restriction.

Thank you, too.

Right,

one more thing.

Yan Lu of Court of Judicial Review

has bought a new mansion a while ago.

He’s also involved in a quarrel for a prostitute.

His salary can’t cover his spending.

It’s said that he often tortures prisoners

to cave and confess.

He also takes bribes from the prisoners’ families.

His story has been submitted to father.

He’ll assign people to investigate.

Yan Lu’s happy days are about to end.

It’s weird

that it’s said that the Marquis was attacked.

However, he wasn’t harmed at all.

Only Deputy Prime Minister’s people got attacked.

I don’t know who’s benefiting

from this in behind.

Deputy Prime Minister’s Mansion

Congratulations.

His Majesty has finally removed the restriction.

I’ve been

wasting time staying at home.

Wait,

how’s the thing with Yan Lu?

Minister Yan has been dismissed.

Your Excellency,

don’t you find it weird?

Marquis Dingyuan safely returned home.

Feng Xi earned trust from His Majesty

which strengthens his power more.

Only us

won nothing

but lost a lot of talents.
