Twisted Fate of Love

Episode 10

Feng’s Mansion

Feng’s Mansion Xi,

you’re really going to arrange the armament for Lu Yuantong?

I have to.

I’ve done my waiting.

And now he finally wants something from me.

He is the most important piece

on my whole chessboard.

I stand a chance to win

only when he trusts me.

Right, leave the town someday

for Fu Yuanshan and Murong Yi.

Tell them to stand by.

You’re wise as always.

With the help of the two,

we will have more chance.

Nothing can be accomplished without regulations.

Now that you are a member of the Feng family,

you need to learn our regulations.

You are a lady

and you should act as a lady.

Every movement should reach a specific standard

and show your superior identity.

Yurou,

I don’t think…

Don’t speak while eating.

From instrument, chess, and calligraphy, to painting and needlework,

you need to be good at everything.

Milady,

please leave it to us.

Otherwise Minister Feng will scold us.

But these are my own clothes.

What should we do

if you’ve done our work?

Exactly.

Her Ladyship just joined the family.

She barely knows the rules here.

Don’t you dare to take advantage of her.

We did not!

They were just trying to help me.

I wanted to wash my clothes

seeing the nice weather today.

But then

they insisted on doing this for me.

I see.

Off you go.

Yes, Sir.

Ziyuan,

you are now a lady of the Feng family.

You should be well-attended.

I’ve been used to the life when I was a housemaid at Marquis An’s Mansion.

Everyone just bossed me around.

Now it should be my turn to boss people around,

but I’m not used to this.

Please say this to Minister Feng.

A lady is bound by so many rules.

I won’t be able to do this.

Why don’t you just send me somewhere far away?

I can take care of myself.

No. No way. Not a chance.

Your identity as a lady is a disguise.

How can you just quit as you wish?

But…

But…

Everytime I think about the regulation,

I feel bad from top to toe.

You could even stab yourself

in order to save Dongyue.

How could things like the lady’s rites

be a challenge to you?

But.

Take your ‘but’ back.

Ziyuan,

you are now the lady of the Feng family.

So, we are a family now.

Don’t worry.

I will help you

get use to your new identity.

And you should have more faith in yourself.

Thank you, Daole.

No worries.

Don’t mention it.

You’re welcome.

Slow down. Slow down.

The water spilts.

Leave her alone.

Get up by yourself.

I’m not done yet.

Time’s up for lunch.

Now it’s time for the needlework class.

Though a lady doesn’t make a living by needlework,

it’s a shame

if she knows nothing about it.

This is the end of today’s class.

I want to see

a pair of complete mandarin ducks by tomorrow.

Keep practicing.

Don’t be lazy, OK?

How’s your hand?

It’s fine.

Didn’t you say

that we were family,

and you’d help me?

Wait.

I can’t do needlework.

Even if I can,

I’ll die if Yurou

tells Xi about this.

I didn’t know it’d be so hard to be a lady.

Compared to the needlework,

I’d prefer martial arts.

You want to learn martial arts?

I do.

I always believe

that had I been good at martial arts,

I could have protected Xiaosi and myself.

If so, Xiaosi would not have been killed

by Deputy Prime Minister’s people.

That’s bygone.

Now you are under the protection of Xi and me.

No one can hurt you.

I don’t want to be protected all the time.

I want to learn martial arts

to protect myself, my friends and family.

But you should have started

when you were a kid.

You are now too…

What are you supposed to mean?

Am I too old to you?

No, no, no.

I mean…

I’m not begging you to teach me.

It’s OK if you don’t want to teach me.

I…

I’ll turn to somebody else.

Who will you turn to?

Few people here in the capital are better

in martial arts than I do.

Anyone but you.

Miss Ziyuan,

this lady wants to meet you.

Off you go.

Yes, Your Ladyship.

Mingzhu,

the birthmark on your face is gone.

See what a beauty you’ve become now!

Elegant and graceful.

A totally different person.

Stop kidding, Dongyue.

By the way,

my name’s changed from Mingzhu

to Ziyuan.

Minister Feng said

that there’d be no such a person named Mingzhu.

I am Feng Ziyuan now.

Anyway,

all I want is you being safe and sound.

That Feng Xi turns out to be reliable.

Did he abuse you?

Nothing like that.

Look at you, still covering up for him?

I knew he wasn’t a good guy inside.

I’m not going to let him be.

He’s not what you think he is.

Wait.

What a treacherous man you are!

I’m not yet done with you

about Hong’e

and now Mingzhu gets bruises

all over her body in your place.

What on earth do you want?

She got the bruises herself.

I have nothing to do with this.

What…

Dongyue,

Indeed, I got the bruises myself.

Don’t be terrified by him.

I will take her away with me.

Take her away?

Fine.

Let’s go.

One hundred pounds

of gold.

Are you insane?

Everything to you is about money, right?

I bought off the jailor

and the supervisor of execution.

I got her wound cured,

and got rid of her birthmark.

Add all the expenses up,

and you’ll get a number no smaller than this.

Given our friendship,

a hundred pounds of gold will do.

Give me the money and you can take her away

at any time.

Don’t go too far.

I don’t have money.

You don’t have money?

Then leave her here.

His Lordship didn’t abuse me.

Don’t worry.

I’ll find a way to get you out.

-Don’t worry. -I have a proposal.

We are rushing out some embroidery,

which is due by the end of the year.

We’ve still got time

but the quantity of the order is huge.

Ziyuan has been staying up late for this.

If you like it,

you can come to work

to pay off the debt.

I’ll do it.

Minister Feng,

please allow me to work with Dongyue.

OK.

Ziyuan can help you.

But you’d better keep your promise.

Yufeng Pavilion

Yufeng Pavilion Miss Dongyue.

Yufeng Pavilion

Why do you stop your carriage at the gate?

Because I don’t want you

to miss my carriage.

Everyone in the government knows

that you are at odds with His Highness.

I know I’m not wanted here at the Yufeng Pavilion.

And I don’t care.

How come that you care?

Are you worrying that you don’t know

which side to choose if the Third Prince

and I are in a fight?

I will certainly not be on your side.

Really?

If you don’t help me,

how can I let you take Ziyuan away?

Shameless man.

Let’s go back home.

What…

I thought you volunteered to help me with the needlework

because you excelled in it.

I’m just a starter.

But don’t worry.

Look,

am I being better and better,

and faster and faster?

Speed means nothing.

I think it’ll take me several lives more

to finish all the embroidery orders.

Well,

how about this?

You have a rest first

and I’ll continue.

As I am the reason why

you have to stay up

and labor here.

Never mind. Let’s do it together.

You’ve come several times tonight.

Are you here to console us

or to supervise us?

I care about you.

You must be hungry after a long night.

So I’ve brought you some food.

Xi agrees too

that you are not

good at the needlework.

Your martial arts are even better.

Then why does he ask me to do this?

He also says

that if you think this is too much for you,

you will only need to make one thing

if you like.

What is it?

I’ll do it.

He asks you to make yourself a wedding dress

for your wedding with him.

Go back and tell him

that I’ll keep my promise

and finish all the embroidery on time.

Tell him to cut his illusion.

You are having the food right now

because he asked me to prepare it.

He says

that if you choose to continue the work,

then have some food and carry on.

Why do you choose

to take a detour?

What a freak.

Go!

Careful!

Xi, are you OK?

I’m fine.

Go check those veiled men.

We were attacked

even after I had taken another route.

We have a spy inside.

During the fight,

I saw a tattoo of eagle claw

on one of the veiled men.

Seems that Deputy Prime Minister starts to make moves.

Be careful during investigation.

Don’t let anyone find you.

By the way,

as for Dongyue,

I don’t want her to be in danger

so I’ll keep her here

for a few days more.

Well done.

Xi,

you need to be more careful

when you are going to court.

If someone doesn’t want me to be nosy,

then I’ll take a few days off.

Modesty and Brilliance

Master.

What are you doing?

Xi was attacked yesterday.

I think we have a spy inside.

So I’ve come to check it out

to see if there’s anyone suspicious.

Master Daole.

What’s wrong with them?

Why did they leave?

Are both of them spies?

Man,

are you trying to find a spy

or get yourself a wife?

No. No.

I’m trying to find a tattoo of

eagle claw on them.

The tattoo is a unique sign of the spy.

But that’s going to take ages.

I don’t have better options.

I do.

Really?

I’ve been searching the whole morning and I’ve got nothing.

You think you can make it?

What?

You don’t trust me?

Then let’s make a bet.

What’s the stake?

If I find the tattoo,

you will teach me martial arts.

How’s that?

Martial arts are nothing.

I’ll even give you weapons.

Deal.

Then follow my instructions.

First,

the attack happened only recently,

so we need to start from the new comers.

As new comers to the family,

you may still be unfamiliar with

the rules here.

Well,

as we all know,

Minister Feng boasts excellent

shape and appearance.

As the new comers to Feng’s Mansion,

you certainly need to present better air.

So Lady Ziyuan and I decided

to customize nice clothes for

each new comer.

To make the clothes suit you better,

your measurements need to be taken with your clothes off.

What? Clothes off?

Females go first.

Males follow.

What’s wrong with you?

Master,

I’m having a stomachache.

I need to go to the toilet.

Stomachache?

Wait till later.

Go take your measurements first.

Daole, be careful.

Be careful.

Thank you for saving my life.

We find him!

You promised to teach me martial arts.

And I will.

You miss me?

I heard that Ziyuan and Daole have caught the spy.

Since when you start to care about

the stuff at my place?

Who says I care about you?

I just want to know more about the spy.

I just want to know more about the spy.

I let him go.

You’ll get nothing

from someone like him.

Letting him go will be the biggest punishment for him.

When a spy is exposed,

his people will silence him for good

without bothering me.

Vicious man.

You are here to ask me that?

I…

Yeah.

Now that I’ve got the answers,

goodbye.

Wait.

Was it the wound from last night?

Let me have a look.

Weren’t you being over-confident

when you took that stab in my place?

I will be cured by itself.

But you still got hurt, didn’t you?

It was an emergency.

I had no time to think more.

Besides,

if I wasn’t stabbed,

how can I know that you care about me this much?

Take this ointment.

It should be very good for your wound.

It looks familiar.

Seems to be the same as the one from Lu Chuan.

This was from Lu Chuan.

You apply it for me.

You have loads of housemaids here.

They can apply it on you.

Why do you ask me?

I don’t want a second person

except you to touch me.

Hurry up.

What did you add in the ointment?

Are you going to poison me?

Too much mentha, perhaps.

You seem to be very familiar with it.

A sniff and you identify the excessive component.

Lu Chuan told me about this.

Did Lu Chuan tell you about this,

or did you give it to Lu Chuan?

You must be feeling better

since you are now joking with me.

You obviously care about me very much.

Last time I hurt my arm,

you didn’t come by to visit me

but you asked Lu Chuan to give the ointment to me.

Had you told me that it was from you,

I would have used it a long time ago

to save your care from being wasted.

Keep this and enjoy yourself applying it.

Ma’am,

don’t you think

that Dongyue is meeting Minister Feng

more and more frequently?

She comes by every now and then.

I’m afraid that Minister Feng would fall for her.

I heard that he even let her stay here

with Ziyuan in the past few days.

For years,

he has been surrounded by various beauties.

But till now, I have been the only hostess

of this mansion.

I’m afraid that if things go on like this,

even she will be joining the family.

Ma’am, I said so for your own good.

Prime Minister’s Mansion

Prime Minister’s Mansion Prime Minister.

After last night’s attack,

a spy with Eagle came to report that

in the middle of the fight,

they saw a wound by hot weapon on Dongyue’s chest.

A wound by hot weapon?

Good.

Tell Eagle’s people

to find out the truth at once.

Yes, Prime Minister.

Feng Xi, I’ll find your secret soon.

Ziyuan,

I find you at last.

Off you go.

Yes, Milady.

Have I wronged Feng Xi?

He did not make you a servant here?

Dongyue,

I’m a lady of the Feng family

and I’ve never been a servant here.

But Feng Xi told me

that you’ve been staying up for several nights

to do the embroidery work?

He even asked me to come and help you.

That’s because he wants to see you.

He knows that you care about me,

so he uses me as a bait

to lure you here.

You know what?

He’s been trying to set me up from Zhuming Post to Court History Bureau.

Then he was stabbed just to save me.

I don’t know what he’s up to.

Minister Feng is nothing like that.

Besides, he has no reason to set you up.

Ever since you joined the Feng family,

you’ve been saying everything good about your Minister Feng.

Seems that you won’t go with me.

Well,

I can rest assured

seeing you being safe and sound.

By the way, look at this.

Nice flowers, aren’t they?

I remember that the flowers are called…

Well…

In this breezy moonlit night,

the ilex flowers are blooming.

Right.

The ilex tree.

Capital Journal

Xi,

you know there’s a show being on at court.

The people of Deputy Prime Minister and the Marquis Dingyuan

have been quarrelling fiercely

about containing the foreign invaders.

Look at you.

His Majesty

was stuck in the dilemma.

He’s waiting for your help.

What can I do?

I’ve not recovered yet.

How can I go to court?

Even Her Highness the Imperial Concubine was worried.

She wondered why you are not yet cured

and offered to send you an imperial doctor.

Go tell my sister

that her brother is very much blessed.

Everything’s fine.

I just need to rest for a few days.

Her Highness also thanked you

for your help in

the matter of Hong’e.

Things are tricky within the Imperial Palace.

And my sister is frank.

I didn’t want to meddle into their stuff.

You two are indeed very closed.

You are both with powers

but still worry about that your sibling might get bullied.

You don’t understand.

Blood is thicker than water.

After the Feng family fell,

Sis was the one who raised me up.

In contrast,

I brought up somebody with toil but

he knows nothing but making me mad.

I…

I don’t “know nothing but making you mad”.

I even asked Ziyuan to prepare nice food for you.

You’ve been holding the food box.

I thought it was for you.

Somebody’s taking care of my diet.

If you like it,

take this away.

Then, I’ll be your guest.

The Sun Always Shines Brightly

I made all the efforts to apply the ointment on you

and yet you don’t even care about your own health.

Look at your food.

Luckily, I met the maid who delivered food to you

so I could get the food box.

Xi,

this is what you’re eating?

Then how will you be able to recover?

You are eating this food to make your health worse on purpose?

Are you too hungry that you’ve gone mad?

Is this his trick to make me take care of him?

That’s because…

That’s because you take your illness as an excuse to avoid court.

And if you keep missing the court,

His Majesty would never decide to issue the order of cutting vassal states.

That’s right.

You’ve been smarter lately.

You finally remember my relationship with Lu Yuantong?

Then I’ll see for how long

you will be using illness as an excuse.

It’s not impossible

if you want me to go to court.

You will have to come take care of me every day.

You will have to come here every day

to apply ointment on me.

I don’t think so.

I don’t want your wound to burn.

Then you’ll have more reasons not to go to court.

Just stay at home as long as you will

if you like it that much.

The Sun Always Shines Brightly

See that?

She looks cute

when she’s faking that she doesn’t care about me.

Xi,

don’t you ever say that I don’t care about you again.

This food box

belongs to you now.

Daole,

has Minister Feng finished my dishes?

How are they? Satisfying?

More than satisfying.

Prepare one more set next time.

Why?

You want one too?

No.

Xi didn’t seem to have had enough.

I guess he’d want more.

Stop it.

Right,

is Dongyue still here?

You want to talk to her?

This is the bracelet she left at the backyard.

In this breezy moonlit night,

the ilex flowers are blooming.

I say,

Minister Feng should be the one to return it to her.

Xi would love to do this.

Ziyuan.

What?

Do you…

still want me to teach you martial arts?

Yeah, of course.

You owe me.

What?

Are you trying to deny it?

Then I see you

at the backyard

tomorrow.

See you then.

I heard that you’ve been frequenting to the Feng’s Mansion lately.

I wonder how Feng Xi is doing.

Have they found the suspect?

The carter in question was killed in chaos.

All the clues

were thus suspended.

Feng Xi was indeed seriously injured.

He might need to rest for a few days more.

How exactly did you and Feng Xi get to know each other?

It doesn’t matter anymore

how we know each other.

The bottom line is

we will be enemies forever.

But I don’t think he shares

the same opinion with you.

Your Highness.

Miss Dongyue.

This is from Minister Feng’s footman.

I once saved Feng Xi.

He’s doing this

to return my favor.

Qingxiao.

Yes, Your Highness.

Thanks.

It’s just a branch of flower.

Don’t need to bother.

But you seemed

to care very much just now.

A prudent decision is made after

comparing the pros and cons.

But people tend to expose their genuine thought

by unconscious actions.

Your Highness.

She’ll get it if she’s destined to.

And if she’s not,

you’ll just waste your time in explanation.

As for the meaning of the ilex branch,

I want it to be a secret between her and me.

This is Yufeng Pavilion.

What are you here for?

I’m here to return this to its owner.

That’s my bracelet.

How did you get it?

Exactly.

How come your bracelet

ended up in my study room?

While you are lingering here at the Yufeng Pavilion,

don’t forget that you promised to take care of my wound.

I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Goodbye.
