The Legend of Xiao Chuo

Episode 44

Is this the treasure you spoke of?

Yes.

It's called "Yuanyang Flagon"

which is said to be

the object in the imperial Palace of the Southern Dynasty.

The mechanism of the flagon

is at the bottom.

All you have to do

is to tap this device

then you could control whether the wine or the poison coming out.

So,

thank you, Princess Ji.

Sis Guiyin,

what are the princesses laughing at?

I don't know either.

Sis Zisu,

what good gift

did your princess give to our princess

that made our princess have a big smile?

It looks like a flagon from the Princess's collection.

It's said that the chief steward found it

from the Southerners in Youzhou.

It's called

Yuanyang or something.

Sis Zisu,

you should keep your nose out of

the business of Princess.

Yes, yes.

You're right, Sis Guiyin.

Zisu.

Your Highness.

Xiyin,

Liulishou,

please wait for me one more day.

I'll be with you

after the family dinner tomorrow.

From then on,,

my family will never be separated again.

Who is there?

Your Highness,

it's getting late,

would you like to have dinner?

I don't want to.

Guiyin,

I have a matter of life and death

for you to do.

Do you swear

to be loyal to me?

I have served Your Highness since I was a child,

and for over a decade,

I've been nothing but faithful

without second thoughts.

Come here.

At the family dinner tomorrow,

you don't have to do anything

but hold this flagon in your hand

and stand by me

to pour the wine for me and Empress Dowager.

King Shu Palace

Are we clear?

Yes.

If anything happens to Empress Dowager tomorrow,

you will rush into the King Zhao Palace

and kill Princess Zhao

to avenge for Empress Dowager.

If nothing happens to Empress Dowager,

you need to sit tight

and not be found by anyone.

Yes.

Chicken Lamb

King Zhao Palace

Your Highness.

Wuguli.

It's a family dinner

and I've come to congratulate your birthday.

If you are like this,

I dare not go in there.

Since Your Highness say so,

I'd better follow your advice.

Is Hunian here?

She's already here.

Who dares arrive later than Your Highness?

You're making fun of me again.

I'm just kidding.

I wish you could make jokes.

I'm so glad you're joking.

Let's go.

Hunian, Yanyan, thank you for coming to celebrate my birthday.

My palace

has not observed so lively for a long time.

Come on.

I'd like to propose a toast.

Pour the wine.

We three sisters had a hard time getting together like this,

and I'm so happy today.

Hunian, Wuguli,

this is

to both of you.

It is because you, Empress Dowager, are so busy.

Our sisters

should have sat down and gotten together.

In a little while, it's mother's birthday,

Let's hold a memorial ceremony for her together.

How's that?

It's great.

It's been over 30 years since our mother died,

and you were just born

at that time.

I didn't even see

our mother.

It's great

that our three sisters are still together

after all these years.

Wuguli,

why don't we go together?

Sure.

Pour the wine.

Yes.

How can you be so clumsy?

Come on.

Hunian, Yanyan, let me give you another toast.

Okay.

Wait a moment.

This wine is poison

and you can't drink it.

Derang.

Han Derang.

How dare you

break into my family dinner?

Someone

just take him down.

Princess Zhao,

why don't you take a look around

and see who else in the room

dares answer your call?

Wuguli.

Is the wine really poisonous?

He's lying.

Yanyan,

our wine

has been poured from the same flagon.

And how could I possibly poison you?

If you don't believe me,

let me show you.

Han Derang,

what is your motive

to drive a wedge between our sisters?

In this way,

Princess Zhao might as well drink

the Empress Dowager's glass of wine.

You can torture me as you like

if everything goes well with you.

Who are you to order me?

Princess Zhao.

Surely you know the secret of the Yuanyang Flagon

better than any of us.

Could the glass of wine in your hand

be the same

as the one in Empress Dowager's hand?

Your Highness.

It wasn't me.

Your Highness.

It wasn't me, Your Highness.

It wasn't me.

It wasn't me.

How dare you betray me?

Let go.

Princess Zhao

tried to plot a rebellion

Just take her down.

Let me go.

Yanyan.

Wait a minute.

All of you just leave.

Derang,

why don't you get out of here?

Wuguli,

I didn't expect you to try to kill me.

Wuguli.

Why?

We're sisters.

Sisters?

She doesn't deserve to be my sister.

When she killed Xiyin and Liulishou,

did she ever think of that we are sisters?

Wuguli,

there are a lot of things which are out of my control.

Since Xiyin had decided to fight for the throne,

he should have known this day would come.

I really regret

that I saved your life

when Xiyin tried to teach you a lesson.

If I had known all this,

I should

have watched her fall to death.

You did know that Xiyin was trying to hurt me.

All these years,

I have played dumb

but you are not repent

with saying

that you regretted saving me.

I thought you are my good sister,

but you've been looking forward to my death.

You're right

I've been looking forward to your death day and night.

I'm going to join Xiyin and Liulishou

and I'll never see you again.

Shut up, you just shut up.

You're out of your mind right now.

Come back with me.

Let's go back.

I'm not going back.

Let go.

Hunian.

I have never been more sober

in my life than today.

Wuguli.

I know what I'm doing.

I don't want to live anymore.

Just kill me.

I want her to kill me.

Kill me.

Since you had planned to poison the Empress Dowager,

you should have known what would happen if you failed.

She's your second sister.

No, she's not.

She's the wife of Xiyin, the traitor.

Why should I treat her as the big sister

when she doesn't think I'm her little sister?

Yanyan.

All Wuguli said was just angry words.

The three of us are the dearest people in the world.

Hunian.

You need to wake up.

I mean, look at her now.

That's how she killed our husbands.

Haven't you told Hunian

that it's you

who killed Yansage with an arrow.

Hunian.

She's been hiding it from you for years

just because

she wanted to save her false sisterhood.

She's the one who should have died a long time ago.

Fine.

Princess Zhao attempted to rebel,

and she should be...

Yanyan,

don't do that.

Yanyan.

Yanyan.

Hunian.

Don't you beg her so humbly.

Wuguli.

Wuguli.

No.

Spit it out.

Just spit it out.

Spit it out.

Come on, spit it out.

Just spit it out.

Xiao Yanyan.

You will not deceive us anymore

with your false sisterhood.

No.

Wuguli.

Wuguli.

Wuguli.

Wuguli.

Wuguli, are you all right?

Hunian.

I'm going to find Xiyin.

No.

And you should...

You should take care of yourself.

No.

Don't

trust her anymore.

Wuguli.

Wuguli.

Wuguli.

Wuguli.

King Zhao Palace

Yanyan.

All Wuguli said was just angry words.

The three of us are the dearest people in the world.

No.

Your Highness.

The news came from Shangjing City.

What did it say?

It is said that Princess Zhao attempted to murder Empress Dowager

at the family dinner,

but Han Derang stopped her,

and Princess Zhao ended up killing herself.

Han Derang!

It's Han Derang again.

Your Highness.

I'm all right.

By the way,

Minge,

do you know what to say

when someone asks

where Zisu has gone?

Didn't Your Highness say

Zisu got married?

Very good.

She has been married,

married far away,

and she will never come back.

Childe.

Now that the case of Princess Zhao has been closed,

what are you so worried about?

According to Jugeng,

Princess Zhao and Princess Ji

have plotted

the Yuanyang Flagon together.

On the face of it,

this was a conspiracy between two of them,

but in fact,

someone's trying to make a profit from it.

Are you saying

there is someone else behind the Princess Ji?

It's the King Shu, Daoyin.

The man

is a great rascal.

Before this, Ji Princess cherished evil designs

and visited all Kings,

he's moved on

and took a fancy to

the Palace Guards in the hands of the Princess Zhao.

Fortunately, I deployed my troops early,

so he did not dare to act rashly.

Why didn't you give the order

to arrest Princess Ji and King Shu?

One reason is that we are lack of evidence,

and another reason is

Princess Ji is the widow of the branch of Emperor Taizong,

and we can't kill them all.

Besides, she's gone to Youzhou

and been unable to do anything.

But King Shu, Daoyin,

is still in Shangjing City.

I need to report this to Empress Dowager as soon as possible.

However,

I'm afraid she's not thinking about

these worries at the moment.

Isn't having a good marriage

the most important thing for us girls?

I heard about

that you and Han Derang...

-You hit me. -It's nonsense.

-It's nonsense. -I really heard about it.

Is it true?

-No. -Just tell me.

You're talking nonsense.

Except you, who else will ignore me?

You are the only one who will ignore me.

You are the only one who is cruel.

I just thought when you little bad girl

compete riding with others

or fight with others,

there would be no one to help you anymore.

Yanyan,

are you all right?

Xiao Yanyan.

You will not deceive us anymore

with your false sisterhood.

Your Highness.

You are here.

Your Highness, you need to take care of yourself,

and don't be too sad.

I knew Wuguli blamed me,

but I didn't expect

that she tried to kill me.

Xiyin is her loved one,

then how about me?

My own sister was trying to kill me,

did I really deserve to die?

No.

It's not your fault.

Liulishou and Xiyin have raised army to conspired against state,

who were defeated and died.

The late Emperor made an example of them to secure the world.

You couldn't stop

this matter.

Wuguli has been possessed by her own demons,

and lost

in her own hatred,

just like Princess Ji.

I really don't know

who else around me I can trust,

and who else

won't change.

I won't.

Your Highness,

I have something to report.

Go ahead.

King Shu, Daoyin,

may be the mastermind behind this.

Daoyin?

Yes.

This man

has always been a coward,

and always let someone else come to the fore,

and at the first hint of trouble,

he would retreat to his own Palace and pretend to be ill.

Is it really him?

The matter is looking very tricky

at the moment.

Princess Ji has fled to Youzhou,

then we can't capture her.

And Daoyin,

he's still in Shangjing City,

We need to prevent him from escaping back to the fief,

and make sure he won't make trouble later.

Then let him take a good rest.

Sine he's sick,

let me send him the Imperial Doctor.

And he's not allowed to set out on a journey

until he is well

in case it gets worse.

What

are you going to do with him?

I know your concerns,

but I have my own idea.

Well,

as for Crown Princess,

what do you have in mind?

Hunian doesn't want to see me now,

and I could not go to the coffin

to face Wuguli.

We all need time.

I guess that's it for now.

The sacrificial tablet of Wuguli, Princess Zhao

What are you doing here?

The dead now rested in peace,

The sacrificial tablet of Wuguli, Princess Zhao

The sacrificial tablet of Wuguli, Princess Zhao just let the living be as such.

The sacrificial tablet of Wuguli, Princess Zhao

Hunian.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Wuguli was forced to death by you and Yanyan.

Do you still dare come to coffin to show your posturing?

I don't have to defend myself.

Whoever wants to hurt Yanyan,

I will not tolerate.

Hunian,

don't you forget

Yanyan is also your little sister?

If Wuguli had succeeded that day,

Yanyan would have died.

But now Wuguli is dead.

She was wrong,

but we're sisters,

so why can't you

give her a chance to live?

Why?

How did three of us

come to this?

I disappointed my mother and my father.

Hunian,

if you want to blame anyone,

just blame me.

It wasn't Yanyan's fault

that three of you

have come to this.

I only hope you don't blame Yanyan.

I have no right to blame Yanyan.

I should blame myself.

I knew there was something wrong with the Wuguli,

but I always took a chance

and hoped that I could persuade her to change her mind.

That's why it took me so long to make up my mind

to take her back to the North.

You're going back North?

I'm tired of watching the power struggle,

and there's no home for me in Shangjing City,

so it's time to leave.

The death of Wuguli

was a great blow to Yanyan.

If you leave now,

how should you let her do?

Now, Yanyan is the Empress Dowager,

even a slight frown from her will make a lot of people care,

what does it matter without me?

Han Derang,

all you see is Yanyan's pain,

who can see my pain?

Fuhui.

It's a good thing you came today.

This is my petition to return to the North,

please give it to Empress Dowager.

"All my relatives have gone,

leaving me alone

without a home in Shangjing.

Moreover, I heard that the North was not peaceful,

so I'm asking to defend the northern border

to serve my country

and protect the people.

I would like to use my strength

to protect Liao Dynasty.

Xiao Hunian"

She wanted to leave

and said she had no home in Shangjing City.

Doesn't Hunian think I'm her sister anymore?

Your Highness.

Crown Princess has made her decision.

Moreover,

there is some unusual action in the North.

It would be a good thing

to let her leave Shangjing for a while.

In a few years,

her heart knot will be untied

and then you can call her back.

I'd rather she could stay

in the Palace of Yansage

until she's happy.

At least,

we are still under the same sky of Shangjing.

So are you trying to keep Crown Princess?

All my relatives have gone, leaving me alone without a home in Shangjing.

Moreover, I heard that the North was not peaceful,

so I'm asking to defend the northern border

to serve my country and protect the people.

I would like to use my strength to protect Liao Dynasty.

Forget it.

I know her.

Just let her go.

Memorial

Your Highness.

Hunian, please rise.

You're determined to go the North

and I can't stop you.

But it's easy to get hurt

on the battlefield,

so please take care of yourself.

You are the only sister I have

in the world.

Please take care of yourself, Your Highness.

Your Highness.

You may rise.

Premier Xiuge,

there are things that involve the royal families,

and I must consult with you first.

Do you mean

the collusion between Princess Ji and the King Shu?

Yes, it is.

I have only one request.

It is not easy for the country to be stable.

As the Premier,

I don't want to destabilize the royal families

and cause panic again.

Pardon makes offenders.

Those who do not care about the country,

do not care about sweetness and bitterness of people,

who are full of ambition and intrigue,

must pay a price.

I'm full of trepidation

for your coming, Your Highness.

How is Imperial Uncle?

He's all right.

The Imperial Doctor has come to check him,

and he will be fine as long as he's having good rest.

Your Highness.

Please forgive me for not getting up and saluting.

Please don't get up, Uncle.

I came to see you,

how can I trouble you?

Thank you, Your Highness.

I'm old

and useless,

and I hope Your Highness

could take good care of

my good-for-nothing children and grandchildren.

Please rest assured, Uncle.

As long as they're loyal,

I'll take care of them.

Now, the branch of Emperor Taizu has withered,

and I've been trying to protect them.

And I hate those who are ambitious

to stir up trouble

and kill each other.

Exactly.

Exactly.

Princess, you don't need to be here,

I have business

to speak to Uncle alone.

Yes.

I wonder what Your Highness would like to say to me.

Since the death of the late Emperor,

you have seen Princess Zhao six times

and Princess Ji eight times,

and all through the back door in secret.

Why have you seen them so often

when you've been sick?

The day before the accident of Princess Zhao,

why did you mobilize your troops

into Shangjing?

There must be someone trying to frame me

with these groundless things.

You've lived through the Reign of Emperor Mu,

and you should be aware of

what the wrath of the Emperor will be like.

I don't understand

your words, Your Highness.

I don't kill easily

doesn't mean

I will not.

Just Like the late Emperor,

he had a good temper

but he still killed people.

But you cannot, Your Highness.

I'm the uncle of the late Emperor,

and if you kill me,

what are you going to tell the royal families?

Didn't Yansage also kill Lihu?

What do you want?

When I came in here,

I saw some of your sons

have grown up.

I'm sure you don't want them

to spend most of their lives

obsessing about power

and being trapped by it, just like Lihu and Xiyin.

Your Highness.

No, no, no.

Uncle, you must know

what you're capable of.

If you don't want to accept your fate,

you have to be able to do that.

If you're not capable

but step across the line and get in trouble,

you have to pay the price.

Your Highness.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

I don't want to put too many people in jail

and get too many people involved,

but it doesn't mean I have to live with it.

My second sister is dead,

someone has to pay for her.

Uncle,

when you are old,

you have to think about your grandchildren,

right?

Yes.

You're right, Your Highness.
