The Silent Criminal

Episode 2

The water is really cold.

Can't you add some hot water?

This bathhouse sucks!

You're just soaking my legs.

My toes are getting pruney!

Isn't anyone ever going to give me a rubdown?

Somebody!

You're a smart guy.

We both know who the murderer is.

The fact that General Pei Zhang

is willing to save you

meant that you

are in possession of the evidence against them.

What did you find in the forest?

Give it to me

and I'll spare your life.

Come here.

Come closer and I'll tell you.

You're...

Do you like it rough?

Or are you more refined?

Refined?

Are you really that heartless?

Don't!

I'll tell you.

I have something to tell you.

I'll tell you.

I'll tell you.

Say it!

Did your family not give you meat to eat?

You have no strength.

I'll let you taste my strength.

Harder!

Tell me!

That's the spirit!

Sir.

Here.

I've never encountered someone so stubborn.

Did you get the wrong guy?

If he refuses to say anything,

it means we have the right person.

I'll really give it to him this time then.

Shi Jing Yao, Constable, Citizen of the Capital Father, Shi Zhan, Jinyiwei Guard

Mother, Du Chun, regular citizen

Wait.

His father used to be a Jinyiwei Guard.

You can leave.

You're out.

Are you alright?

I'm fine.

I'm thick-skinned.

I'm the most durable in the Capital.

Are you sure?

Other than your mouth,

nothing about you says tough.

You've been badly roughed up.

How can you go home like this?

Take this.

Tea leaves.

Do you know how to explain yourself?

I know.

Mother.

I injured myself

while I was pursuing a criminal.

Here are some tea leaves for you.

I'll be careful next time.

Pretty good.

Does it hurt?

It's nothing.

Mother?

This looks good.

Not bad, huh?

It feels really soft.

Take your time.

Give me a better price.

I'll have a look at this.

Mother?

What happened to you?

Did you injure yourself

while pursuing a criminal?

I...

You don't have to give me anything.

Just promise me

that you will be careful next time.

Alright.

Don't worry.

It's nothing.

Look at this leather.

I'm really a constable.

I did all of that for a case.

It's the Capital indeed.

Everybody's an official.

Are you here to sell leather?

I'm in the Capital for important business.

We're just selling some leather to earn some travel funds.

If you don't even have enough travel funds,

you definitely need to broaden your horizons.

You...

So both of you know each other.

She's a really nice lady. I...

Don't misunderstand, mother.

Really.

Help me get a better price.

This leather is really soft.

What's that on his hands?

It's Biluochun. A type of tea leaves

What's Biluochun?

The Capital has everything.

Stop embarrassing yourself.

You must be from another region

since you don't even know what Biluochun is.

It's worth at least three of your leather.

If you're interested, just take it.

That's not right.

I know you'd be pondering.

I'll take two of your leather

in exchange for this.

I'm hungry.

Mother, let's go.

Hey!

My good son!

This is a good deal!

Son!

Dinner is ready!

Mother.

How do you like this new tablecloth?

It's such high quality leather

but you're using it as a tablecloth.

What a waste.

Once I'm done with this case,

I'll buy you a big house.

We can have leather spread

from our house entrance all the way into your bedroom.

Your father was an honest man.

Who do you take after

for your smug attitude?

Who else could I take after?

It's definitely you!

You rascal.

Mother.

Why did you even

marry such a man?

I don't know why either.

Maybe he just looked good.

Burn incense for your father once you're done eating.

It's almost time.

Mother.

He abandoned us.

He couldn't provide for us.

I can.

Just be content with what you have.

We lead a decent life.

How is this a good life?

Just you wait!

Fine.

How dare you follow me to my house?

I'm going to kill you no matter what it takes.

Isn't it your plan to

retrieve your reward from General Pei Zhang tomorrow?

Nonsense.

Bring me along.

Why should I?

You know how Li Yu died.

Without my protection,

do you...

think you can safely retrieve your reward?

Just say it.

How much do you want?

Let's do a sixty-forty split.

So much for thinking you're an honorable man.

Sixty-forty split.

The evidence is with me.

Why should I split anything with you?

You need my protection.

The title Jinyiwei Guard may seem glorious,

but it's still just physical labor.

Alright.

Having a skilled swordsman like you serving me...

Not too shabby.

How about this?

I asked him for a hundred taels.

I'll split it with you equally.

How's that?

Fair?

Free Samples

All good?

I'm good.

Totally fine.

My father is inside.

Enter for your reward.

Mansion of Prince Rui

Impossible.

Let's go!

Now!

Don't move.

Now!

It's a misunderstanding.

Misunderstanding.

Misunderstanding?

Yes, a misunderstanding.

None of you move!

I am from the Capital...

Jing Yao.

Son, are you back?

Wanted Criminals

Kid! What are you doing?

Give it to me.

This really looks like me.

Pei Zhang...

You piece of shit.

You went back on your word.

Shame on you.

This is what you get for blackmailing someone

you shouldn't have messed with.

What do you mean?

If I don't get the money, you get nothing either.

What's with that smug look on your face?

You know that they killed Li Yu,

but do you know why they killed him?

We've already had the evidence.

Who cares about their motive?

Both you and Li Yu wanted to blackmail General Pei Zhang.

The Dayintuya.

The best weapon in the world.

It belonged to the royal family.

It was later bestowed to General Pei Zhang,

but he lost it.

Li Yu caught hold of this,

and turned into a corpse,

and you,

you made the same mistake as he did.

That's why I'm here to protect you.

Thank you for letting me know

the murderer's motive.

Also thank you for saving my life,

but all I care about

is that we're not getting the money.

I'm not here for the money.

But I am.

The reason I'm protecting you

is merely because

I want the evidence you found.

I want Pei Zhang to admit to his crime.

That's just you.

It's none of my business.

Give me the evidence.

I will escort you home.

What does that mean?

Stop pondering.

You escaped from Pei Zhang.

Do you think that your family can stay safe?

If you return on your own,

who can you protect?

You can't even protect yourself.

The evidence really isn't with me.

Then I have no reason to be here.

We're friends!

You have to help me.

I do not have friends.

So heartless.

Do I look good?

Yes.

Sorry.

It's just the both of you,

and you intend to capture my son?

My son

used to train with his father.

Shut up.

My son definitely knows you'll be coming for him.

He has probably left the Capital by now,

to look for his father.

So that's why his father is nowhere to be seen.

Isn't his father in the Capital?

Forget it.

His father left us

when he was just a kid.

It's been almost 20 years.

Gosh.

It must have been hard for you for all these years.

You managed to raise him up.

My efforts were fruitful.

My son

is really filial,

and he's good-looking too!

Are you tired?

I'll get both of you some water.

It's alright.

Just do your job as a bait.

Don't worry about it.

It's not a big deal.

If both of you aren't tired,

then help me feed the chickens.

The constable that gave us the tea leaves lives here?

We need to teach him a lesson.

I need my revenge.

Boss, it doesn't seem like a good thing

to set their house on fire.

I just want to scare them.

He needs to know he shouldn't have crossed me.

We have another mission here.

An eye for an eye,

and a tooth for a tooth.

Shi Jing Yao is back!

Catch him, quick!

Run, mother!

Son.

Mother, mother!

What are you doing?

Mother.

Run!

As long as you're not caught,

they won't kill me.

Open the door, mother!

Mother!

Run!

Feed the chickens!

Mother!

Go over there!

Feed the chickens!

Move!

Pursue him!

Why does this person look like that?

It's so weird.

Move aside!

Move!

Why did he remove it?

Lord Feng spent over a decade

and countless informants have died

to finally find out

that the Dayintuya is in Pei Zhang's residence.

I can't believe

it was all just a waste of time.

If we can't find the Dayintuya,

we won't be able to explain ourselves.

Why don't we just...

stay here?

My lady,

is that a joke?

What's the point of going back?

Primitive.

The Capital is so much fun.

Do you think it's pleasant

to see all of your barbaric faces

right beside Lord Feng every day?

That's you.

We caused such a scene

and yet there's no warrant to arrest us.

Shi Jing Yao stole the Dayintuya?

Freeze!

Catch him!

What really is happening?

Freeze!

Don't move.

I know you're buff,

but if you ever make a sound,

I'll kill all of you.

Freeze!

Stop running!

Freeze!

Catch him!

Thanks!

What?

Come.

I know you'll eventually come.

Let's just get straight to the point.

Who are you?

I used to belong to the firearms camp.

I know a little on

how your people operate.

Soldier's Manual

The Tempered Sword,

is an ancient sword.

These artifacts has always been kept in the Royal Palace.

You're just a Jinyiwei Guard.

How did you get your hands on it?

You didn't withdraw the Jinyiwei Guards.

That means you are still wary of General Pei Zhang.

Where is the evidence?

That's just your assumptions.

You can just be honest.

You care about Shi Jing Yao.

Actually...

The evidence is with Jing Yao.

N-No, I mean...

If General Pei Zhang finds out

that it is with me,

he would have gotten someone to keep an eye on me.

I was concerned about that,

so I hid it with the tea leaves

and passed it to Jing Yao.

It's likely he still doesn't know.

Wait!

This evidence...

can only prove that General Pei Zhang's son,

Wang Su, murdered someone.

Both of you are now fugitives.

So what if you've found the evidence?

Get to the point.

Find the Dayintuya

and clear both your names.

Then use the evidence

to bring Pei Zhang to justice.

Do you know where the Dayintuya is?

I only know...

that whenever something gets lost in the Capital,

you can always find it again at

the ghost market.

Both of you take that side.

Yes sir!

Thank you all...

for saving me.

Did Magistrate Liu send you,

or did Long Yao send you?

If Long Yao is the one who sent you,

then relay these words to him.

I don't want his help.

The evidence is not with me.

Did it hurt?

Give us the Dayintuya.

I guarantee

that they won't beat you up again.

Oh.

You're here for the Dayintuya.

Just beat me up.

Beat me up hard!

The Dayintuya

is supposed to be the emperor's toy.

It's supposed to be in the palace,

but it's not in the palace.

We had to spend over a decade to find out

that this toy

was hidden in General Pei Zhang's residence.

How did you find out?

How did you find it?

The Dayintuya...

It's a long story.

My name is Shi Jing Yao.

What's your name?

Mind your manners!

What are you looking at?

She's the one who stole the Dayintuya.

You gave me a ragged bag of tea leaves

for two of my leather?

Brat!

Are you taking us for fools?

She's even drawn her blade!

Look!

I can't walk anymore.

I really can't.

Move!

I really can't walk anymore.

Why don't you carry me?

You wish.

Move!

You're really harsh.

Keep up!

Who are you?

Come over, have a look.

Come over, have a look.

Why are you here?

Can't shake you off.

What are you getting at?

I didn't follow you.

I'm here to avoid the soldiers pursuing me.

I even met a bunch of weird people.

I thought they were your men,

but then they

beat me up.

Luckily,

I met a really kind foreign lady.

She saved me.

Otherwise...

Well.

Why is this the only store

that doesn't have an owner?

Why?

Why?

Where do you think this is?

Ghost market.

Ghost Market

This is the ghost market?

I heard that the ghost market is extremely mysterious.

Everything sold here is what the government banned from selling.

How can it look like this?

It's no different from a regular market.

For our people to live and work in peace,

and to maintain stability as well as unity,

the government modified this place.

Using the name of the ghost market,

this street was built

to be as similar as a merchant's lane.

Why are you here?

What's your business here?

The Dayintuya.

It's here.

The Dayintuya is here?

Not here.

The real ghost market

has another entrance.

The real ghost market?

Look.

The store in the drawing

and the stores on the street

are parallel with each other.

There's even someone there catching a thief.

That's Zhong Kui.

He's hunting a ghost.

Oh.

Where's the ghost?

In the real ghost market.

So...

if you can find where the ghost is,

you will find the real ghost market.

Ghost market.

14 strokes.

The ghost market is behind the ghost.

The fourteenth household.
