(CHUCKLES)

Its loss will bring lucrative defense work
to Justin Hammer at Stark's expense,

and the alloy will make
my robot forces so powerful

not even Iron Man will be able
to stand in my way!

TONY: We're staying a half mile behind
the overland tanker, Jim.

If The Mandarin is planning a hijack,
we don't want to scare him off.

I think we got all that, Tone.

But you better turn down the rock

before you get ticketed
for noise pollution.

Sorry, Jim. The music's tuned
to the tanker's security alarm.

If the song changes,
then we'll know something's wrong.

JIM: Holler if it does, babe.
Wanda, Century and I are standing by.

TONY: If The Mandarin shows up
in his elusive Sky Saucer,

we'll also need Hawkeye's eagle eye.

JIM: Nobody knows where
the wild Hawk goes,

but it'd probably trash my makeup.

Vehicle now on auto pilot.

IRON MAN: See you at the tanker. Eject!

Auto control, shift. Jim, it's party time.

I hear you. Hawkeye will just have
to meet us there.

Thrusters on.

THE MANDARIN:
Terminate the siphon operation

and prepare to commandeer
the tanker.

I only wanted a bit of the alloy on board
in case something went wrong.

Then congratulations are in order.

DREADKNIGHT: Knightwing.

Get set for a saw-toothed wedgie.

IRON MAN: Blast off the tractor beam
extrusion head. Hurry!

SPIDER WOMAN: It's not happening.

WAR MACHINE: We need
a sharpshooter. Where's Hawkeye?

IRON MAN:
We've got to make the double play.

(IRON MAN GROANS)

WAR MACHINE: That was too close.

SCARLET WITCH:
If Hawkeye had been here,

we might have nailed The Mandarin,
too.

IRON MAN:
I'm sure he has an explanation.

Meanwhile, this test run proved
we need to tighten security

before we make our first tanker delivery
at midnight tomorrow.

Until then, I hope The Mandarin enjoys
his stolen alloy.

- I do not think so.

I wish I could see his face.

MODOK: Liquefied Adamantium alloy,
the mind boggles.

I think we should treat all our robots
with it at once.

would have been the logical one
to disable our tractor beam,

but he was nowhere in sight.

(AIR WHOOSHING)

Iron Man set us up to steal a false alloy,

but he surely did not intend for us
to get away

with Stark's overland tanker.

But if so, why wasn't Hawkeye there
to prevent it?

I have it! For some unknown reason,
Hawkeye failed in his duty.

(LAUGHING) And I will use that fact

to send Iron Man and his team
crashing down in flames.

TONY:
Whirlwind knew exactly where to hide.

So did that frozen turkey Blizzard.

And The Mandarin's goons
made the pass narrower

with concrete camouflaged as rock
so the tanker would get stuck,

while Dreadknight was waiting
in backup position,

with the accent on back.

The Mandarin's plan was extremely
well prepared, my precious Tony.

Then he had to know when and where
the tanker was going ahead of time.

- Have we been bugged?
- Two sweeps came up empty,

which means either The Mandarin
will soon have his own show

on the Psychic Network
or a member of our team tipped him off.

- Oh, come on, Jim.
- Really, Jimmy. That is absurd.

I cannot accept the premise
that one of us is a traitor.

HAWKEYE: Hey, what's shaking, gang?

Uh-oh. Looks like I missed
some pretty hairy action, huh?

makes its real midnight run.

your rubber-soled shoes

and Inspector Clouseau disguise kit?

(IN FRENCH ACCENT)

(IN NORMAL ACCENT)
Okay, look, I'll tail Clint.

I just hope I don't find anything nasty.

JIM: Meanwhile, I'm gonna run

and review every action
Hawkeye's been in on since day one.

and if he's The Mandarin's mole,

(THE MANDARIN SIGHS
CONTENTEDLY)

THE MANDARIN: I knew our
surveillance would bear fruit, Modok.

Now, why would Julia Carpenter,

Vice President of Research
and Development for Stark Enterprises,

shadow a young motorcycle rider
in a disguised vehicle?

This is California, remember?

I say it's because that young rider
must actually be Hawkeye.

Iron Man reported his unreliability
to Stark,

and Stark put her on his trail
to check him out.

It's the opportunity
I've been waiting for.

JULIA: I don't like
the looks of this, Tony.

Clint used every trick in the book
to make sure he wasn't followed,

and he ended up here at Hammer Hills,
as in Justin Hammer?

Hammer Hills is a big place, Julia.

Just being there doesn't make Clint
a double agent.

JULIA: He must've seen me.
I'll get back to you.

(PANTING)

It still doesn't prove he's guilty
of anything more than weird behavior.

We've got a job to do. Thrusters on.

WAR MACHINE: I swept for bugs again,
Tone, and we're clean.

If The Mandarin's laying for us
this time,

it can mean only one thing,
Hawkeye's gone bad.

IRON MAN: Let's hope this run is short,
boring and uneventful. Move out.

MODOK: Homing devices, interlock.

THE MANDARIN: Brilliant, Modok.

(THE MANDARIN CHUCKLES)

James Rhodes can do
electronic sweeps

until disco comes back,

but he'll never find
your magnetic homing device.

Yes. It doesn't attach itself
to the overland tanker

until it exits Stark's facility.

Then it detaches
before the tanker returns to base.

So when Iron Man
and the rest of Stark's lackeys

again find us waiting for the tanker
on its secret route,

they will be forced to believe
that Hawkeye told us where to look.

(LAUGHING) And when their suspicions
turn them against one another,

we shall attack Iron Man's Armory itself
and destroy the base of his power!

WAR MACHINE: The Mandarin grabbed
the tanker. How'd he know its route?

Hawkeye's a traitor, man.

He sold us out! It's the only answer.

JUSTIN: I hope you're watching

this rather theatrical presentation
closely, my friend.

You're going to have to explain
how it happened

and why you weren't there to fight
side by side with your friends.

(CAMERA CLICKING)

(LAUGHING) But then,

I'm sure you'll think of something
when the time comes.

(CAMERA CLICKING)

WAR MACHINE: That dozer's got
the tanker between its teeth.

IRON MAN: We're not even slowing it
down, and it's heading for the ocean,

laying its own road as it goes.

CENTURY: It has undersea capability.

If it reaches the ocean,
we may not be able to save the tanker.

But we shall try.

WAR MACHINE:
We're going down the tubes, Tone!

That robot dozer's so tough,

The Mandarin didn't even bother
to send in backup.

IRON MAN: Back up. Jim!
That's it! Full power!

WAR MACHINE: Say what?

IRON MAN:
The dozer travels on the road it lays.

So we need to do a little road work.

We'll free the tanker
and complete the alloy delivery run

and then we've got to find Hawkeye
and see what this is really all about.

I already told you, I can't remember.

I spotted Julia on my tail
in Hammer Hills,

so I took off and...

And the next thing I know,

I'm sitting here with my friends
accusing me of selling out!

This is loco, man! You're all nuts!

That's what I'd have said
a few hours ago, Clint.

And then these were dropped off
by a reporter

from the Hard News television show.

I don't know anything
about these pictures. They're fakes.

Computer analysis says
they are genuine.

What were you doing at Hammer Hills
and why did you run from me?

You are concealing something
from us, Clint.

- I see it in your aura.

We all want to believe you, Clint,

When The Mandarin constructed
a duplicate Iron Man to start a plague,

it was up to you to stop him.

You cut it real close,
but in the end, you did.

Over and over again,
when the going got tough,

we looked around
and there you weren't.

But you always did seem to arrive
at the last instant,

if you showed up at all.

One thing for sure, you'll never win
the title of Mr. Dependability.

Time after time, you laid it on the line,

generally complaining
about something unimportant,

often late, and frequently taking offense
where none was intended.

All of which leads us
to one inescapable conclusion,

- you are a total pain in the butt.
- But you're no traitor.

The Mandarin clearly has some method
of tracking the overland tanker,

- but you're not part of it.
- I said I was clean all along.

- Take it easy.
- You're still a pain.

- I never doubted you.

The Mandarin wants us to think
you're working for him.

And you're helping him make his case

by refusing to account
for your whereabouts.

In the seconds it'll take them to realize
what's happening,

we'll scoop Iron Man's armor
out of its vault.

TONY: The Mandarin's making
an all out assault.

I'm sure he expected us to be so busy
questioning Hawkeye's loyalty

we'd be easy pickings.
Well, he was wrong.

Raise Armory shields.

An incredibly powerful
protective shield.

- The controls do not respond.
- Raise the canopy. I'll blast through!

HYPNOTIA: A force field. Look out!

BLIZZARD: That protective shield
threw Hypnotia and Blacklash.

Hurry, Gargoyle,
take evasive action at...

(BLIZZARD SCREAMING)

IRON MAN:
We don't want to be inhospitable,

so it's time to go out
and greet our guests in person.

Reverse shields!

(BLIZZARD SCREAMING)

BLIZZARD: We're being whirlpooled
into the ground.

IRON MAN: Thrusters on.

HAWKE YE: Yee-haw!

(CENTURY EXCLAIMS)

He's reversed the magnetic field.
Summon the others for assistance.

MODOK: They've been clobbered.

And Iron Man and War Machine
are coming for us with reinforcements.

It's not possible.

They should now be
in complete disarray,

torturing Hawkeye
to make him confess.

MODOK: Hurry! They're almost on us.

THE MANDARIN:
We shall meet again, Iron Man.

IRON MAN: As The Mandarin said,
we'll meet again.

CLINT: Like I said, it's no big deal.

I mean, you found The Mandarin's
magnetic bug planted in the driveway,

so you know he didn't need me
to tell him

where to find the tanker, so...

Stop it. You brought us here to explain

why you didn't show up
for the tanker's test run. Now do it.

Clinton? I'm feeling much better.

I even got out the horseshoes
and lemonade.

Clinton?

(CHUCKLES) It's my grandpa,
Jackson Wiley.

(STAMMERING)
I kind of make sure he's okay here,

and, well, he was sick
a couple days ago, so...

If Clint missed the action

because he was taking care
of his grandfather,

he was a human being with feelings

- and all that messy stuff?
