(ominous music)
(electronic swirling)
(glass cracks)
(phone rings)
(indistinct chattering on TV)
- [Charles] Hello?
- [Bryan] I know who you killed last summer.
I saw. (laughs)
Yo, C-Dog, what's up?
- Who is this? - What?
You tripping?
- Okay.
I'm hanging up now.
- Wait, wait, wait, wait. It's Bryan.
- Holy cow.
Dude, it's been forever.
- Yeah, man, I know.
- Hey, what have you been up to?
- You know, I just got my own place.
Meeting babes, you know.
Just living the good life.
- Hey, that's awesome.
It's really nice to hear from you.
Wait, did you call me C-Dog?
- Hey, listen.
We should get together this weekend.
- Who? - Um, you, me,
Linda, Karen, and Edward.
Just like the good ole days.
- I don't know, man.
I can't really miss work right now.
- Take a sick day, man.
- Bryan!
It's not like I don't want to, man, I'm just really,
really busy right now.
All right, I'll tell you what,
call everybody else,
talk to them and let me know what they say.
- They said, "Yeah."
You're the last one I called, C-Dog.
- Well, what were you hoping to do?
(ominous music)
(bright guitar music)
- [Linda] This is crazy.
I think the last time we were all together was graduation.
- [Bryan] No way, that can't be true, girl.
- Yeah, I really think so. - That's wrong.
- I'm pretty sure Bryan's right.
(Bryan mimics buzzer sound)
- [Bryan] Oh yeah, man.
- I seem to remember a very long and boring baseball game.
I think the summer of 2009.
- [Karen] Oh, yeah.
- You still don't like baseball, huh?
- When you put it that way, no.
- [Bryan] Boo!
- It's just so- - Awesome.
- [Edward] Dull, actually, and repetitive.
(bright music)
- [Bryan] How can you say that, bro?
You're hurting me. - I'm sorry, brother.
Sometimes the truth hurts.
- [Linda] You guys are too funny.
- [Bryan] Hey, do you want funny?
What does a nosey pepper do?
- [Linda] Hmm?
- [Bryan] Get jalapeรฑo business! (laughs)
- Wow.
(bright music)
Wow, how you'd manage to find
such a nice place this weekend?
- Yeah, I'm actually impressed.
- It's actually my parents, bro.
We used to come here a lot when we were growing up,
but once they got divorced, that stopped.
So I gave Mom a call to see if she still had it.
She says she uses it as vacation rental.
I was like sweet,
maybe we can use it for the weekend.
You know Mom never lets me down.
(bright music)
- So, can one of you guys get my bag for me?
Because it's a little heavy.
- I'd be honored. - Yeah, you gotta
hand it over. - I got it.
- Okay, guy.
All right.
- Boys will be boys.
- More like Bryan will be Bryan.
- (chuckles) True, that's what I should have said.
So how have you been Charles?
It's been ages. - Oh, it's good to see you.
- You too. - Well, you know,
you're supposed to work to live?
I live to work.
I took an internship at the hospital about six months ago.
All that schooling's finally paying off.
Now I'm just waiting for a job offer.
What about you? What do you do?
- I sell real estate.
I'm actually doing pretty well for myself.
I ended up where I've always wanted to be.
I'm sure you'll get there soon, Charles.
- [Charles] Maybe someday.
- Yo, did you guys see the keychain I had earlier?
- What, you didn't forget the keys? Did you Bryan?
- No, I just misplaced them.
Just help me look for 'em, man.
- You would. - Are you sure
you didn't leave 'em on your counter at home?
- Yo, I will put this bag down.
Don't make me. - And then I'll pick it up
so Karen doesn't have to. - No, I'm just kidding.
I found it, it's right here.
(all laugh)
- [Charles] That's Bryan for you.
Always messing around. (door opens)
- [Karen] Hurry, I'm cold.
(bright music)
- All right, well, this is it.
Wow, it looks different over the years.
Feel like I was just here yesterday.
- I think Bryan needs a minute.
- There's one bedroom upstairs.
One right there and there's two in the back.
If you guys want, we can put our bags up
and meet back in the living room.
Does that work? - Yeah.
- Edward can you come here real quick, bro?
- Yeah.
(bright music)
- Hey, can you get this bag for me?
I think Karen put rocks in there just to mess with me,
but it's killing my shoulder. Please.
- All right, man, I got you. - Hey, thank you.
Yo, Karen.
Edward got your bag.
You know, long car ride.
I need to use the restroom.
- Well, thanks, Bryan.
- You're welcome.
I carried it pretty far.
(bright music)
- You can just set it down on the bed.
I can unpack myself.
- [Edward] Sure, I mean, it's not a problem.
- Yeah, yeah, no really,
the whole you guys carrying my bags up here
and stuff, it was just kind of a joke.
(chuckles)
- [Edward] Right.
- But it was really sweet of you.
And Bryan too.
(chuckles)
- [Edward] You know, Bryan's always had a crush on you
so really no surprise there.
- Right.
(sighs)
So, Edward how have you, how have you been?
How's your mom doing?
- Small talk?
Really?
I mean, I'm okay, you know.
My mom, she, she just moved.
So, I don't see her much, but we still talk.
(bright music)
- That's nice.
- [Edward] So, how have you been?
- Great. Great.
(chuckles)
I'm sorry. Like this is, this is really hard.
- Yeah. - It's...
But promise me after all of this is over with,
you keep in touch because I really do miss you.
- Yeah, so I'm gonna,
I'm gonna go so you can unpack.
- Right. - Yeah.
- Well, thanks for bringing my bags up here.
It's nice to know that you're still such a nice guy
after all this time.
And you know, I'm happy to be here
with you and everyone else.
- Yeah.
- [Karen] You look great, by the way.
- [Edward] Thank you.
(gentle music)
(door opens)
- Good evening.
Sure is different out here than it is in the city.
Don't you think?
- Yes.
It's pretty though.
You know, I've never even gone camping.
My family wasn't outdoorsy.
- Really?
Everybody's got to go camping at least once.
It's just really nice to get away from it all.
Life in the city can move so fast.
You just need that time to slow down and recharge.
I think that's what my parents really like camping.
Even though it's not the same thing,
it feels the same.
- I see what you mean.
You've just been so focused on you.
24 hours just isn't enough in a day.
- Exactly.
Time doesn't stop.
- You, you don't think that there
could be bears out here, do you?
Stuff like that has always scared me
about the wilderness.
I don't even know what I would do if I saw one.
- Stay very still.
- And it will leave you alone?
- Maybe or just hope you can outrun it back to the cabin.
But you'll have to be really fast.
- Charles!
- All right. Well, I'm gonna head off to bed.
See you in the morning.
- Night.
- [Charles] Good night.
(door closes)
(gentle music)
What's up, man? - What's up?
- Look at this.
You see that snow out there?
- Never seen snow before?
- That's a lot of snow.
Good morning. - Good morning.
- Morning. - Morning.
(gentle music) (stairs creak)
- [Linda] Morning.
- So, Mr. Weekend Vacation,
what's your plans for today?
- Maybe get some breakfast.
We can go on a hike.
Make out a little.
(laughs)
- Okay, yeah, you'd like that, huh?
- Yeah, I would.
- A hike. Perfect day for a hike.
Somebody should Google some hiking trails nearby.
- Why don't you? Your phone's in your hand.
- (scoffs) It's a team effort, man.
I came up with the idea.
Someone needs to execute.
- You're lazy, bro. (laughs)
- What about Silver Woods?
I Googled.
(gentle music)
- Mm, hold on.
Let's see.
It's close by.
There's some pictures here.
- Ooh. - It looks nice.
- Yeah. - I bet you
there's a lot of trees, huh?
- (chuckles) Here.
- Well, okay, well let's grab our bags and go.
- Lead the way.
(gentle music)
(crows caw)
- All right, so we got water.
I think we're good. - Yeah.
We should be good.
How many waters did you bring, Bryan?
- One for me.
- Aw, you hit my boob!
(all laugh)
(ominous music)
- Oh, hey. (horn beeps)
(ominous music)
Hey, it's all right. - Are you sure?
- Yeah.
(door closes)
- Now y'all might wanna stay out of them woods.
I can point you in the direction of another trail.
- [Charles] Why what's wrong?
- Well, nothing, just folks around here
like to keep an eye out for tourists.
Silver Woods ain't exactly what you might expect.
- Haunted. I knew it.
- Oh no. I didn't say that.
It's just dangerous.
Where are y'all from?
- We're just visiting for the weekend.
- I see.
Well, my name's Walker.
I'm the park ranger out here.
Y'all might see me driving around.
- My name's Edward.
And these are my friends here.
- It's a pleasure.
(ominous music)
Y'all been hiking before?
Looks like you might wanna say something.
- Well if it's not safe,
how are people supposed to know
if it's not blocked off?
- Charles, just drop it. - I'm just saying.
- I can't just go blocking off 90 acres, young man.
These are my woods.
It's just me up here.
- Well can you provide us with the map
and information on another trail close by?
- You know what? Sure thing.
Let me get one out of my truck.
(ominous music)
(door closes)
Now, I didn't mean to frighten you all.
It's just better if you stay out.
It's better for me, it's better for you.
I just wanna make that clear.
Now, Ora Creek is up that way.
It's pretty easy hike,
but it's got some spectacular views.
Shoot, on a day like today,
y'all might even see some deer by the river.
It's perfect for groups such as yourselves.
Now, I hope all have a lovely weekend.
- Thanks so much, sir. - Thank you.
- Thanks. - Yeah, yeah, whatever.
- So, he said up up this way, right?
(ominous music)
So, so hospitable earlier.
What happened? - What do you mean?
- Oh, what do you mean, bro? What do you mean?
- Yeah, what do you mean? - Oh, yeah.
Somebody needs a little.
- There you go again.
Always. - Warmth.
Clearly.
- Ah, thank you Edward. - She's a beautiful girl.
- I'm not a sissy like Edward.
- Oh, is that what it is?
I'm a sissy now? - I'm thinking.
- Okay. All right.
Well I guess I'm sissy that keeps ladies warm.
- Guys, we came on this trip to have a good time.
- Universe of nature been going on.
- Ridiculous. - I hate walking in the snow.
- Well, you know what?
You're clearly not having a good time
'cause you're complaining about everything.
- God, yeah. - Shit.
- Wah, wah. - Wah, wah, wah.
- Maybe you should figure that one out.
- Maybe I should. - I'm sorry
you're not in your cubicle at work.
I'm sure they have better scenery over there
than in God's country.
- Actually, this was my idea, but...
- It was your idea and
it was awesome. - Well it was your idea?
- It doesn't really matter you guys.
Really? - You're gonna let him
lie like that, let him lie like that?
Okay. - This all goes back,
even though it was my- - Who's idea was it
to go on a hike?
- Oh, yeah. - Oh, yeah.
- Everything's your idea. - Hey, let's go hiking?
- Or you should compute stuff on your phone.
Or something. - Yeah, who's miserable?
- You gave her your jacket. - You know what?
Are we even going the right way?
- Yeah, you should check that one out.
You need to get your "Inspector Gadget" gadgets.
- Yeah, huh.
(sighs)
- For someone who works at an office all day,
you're pretty slow.
- Yeah, it's called no service
out in the mountains, wise guy.
- You know, I miss this about high school.
Just being mean to each other.
- Yeah. Ed, let's just go this direction.
- Lets just go this direction, like you know the way.
Let's go this direction.
- Edward's always talking over people.
- [Bryan] Why should we listen to you?
You just said you didn't have no service.
- No. - You know what, I'm not
trusting the nerd over here
with his calculator. - You always call
people nerds. - Take your direction
back that way. - You don't need to talk.
"Cause every time you say something bad stuff happens."
- Oh yeah, 'cause we're all here
and don't know where we're at.
- I like what comes out of your mouth.
- Exactly. - It's like word vomit.
(laughs)
- Wow. - You're funny.
- You know that I love you, though?
- Yeah, of course. All the time.
- Who's the one that helped you pass high school?
- Here we go.
- But you did take care of me though.
- I did.
I prevented you from getting beat up.
(all chattering) - Hey, thanks
for leaving the ladies behind
so we can get eaten by bears!
- Oh, I'm so sorry.
I need to take care of the ladies.
- We're making sure that you do not.
- Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, here.
- Really? - Hey, guy, my GPS
says this direction. - Yeah, you're GPS
says this direction.
So we need to follow, let's follow him.
His GPS knows the way.
- [Linda] We always have to follow the guys
like they even know what they're talking about.
- I know, they have no sense of direction.
- I know. - That's why we're lost
in the first place.
- Says the girl who didn't bring her jacket.
- Says the guy that didn't bring a jacket to begin with.
- I just don't want Walker Ranger man or whatever his name
- And you admitted you wanted - to pop out of another bush.
- To make out with me earlier?
- We'll talk about that later. - She gotcha on that one.
- Hey, should we grab some firewood one on the way back?
- That'd probably be a good idea.
- I'm pretty we need it. - There's some dry wood
right over here, actually.
There's some dry wood here. - Yeah.
- I have no memory of that.
- [Karen] You do have a memory of that.
- What are y'all talking about?
Like what we're talking about meaningful things
and you're just running your mouths about stuff.
- You guys like don't even know where you're walking.
- Yeah we do. - Why, you don't even say
- The creek's right here. - Anything the whole time.
Now all of a sudden you have an opinion.
- How would you even hear it?
Because you're talking - Because you're so small
- the whole time? - I'm just, I'm looking
at you and I can't see, what's she talking about?
- That was mean. - Where's she at?
- [Linda] Well you have to be the center of attention.
- [Edward] Oh, oh, is that what it is?
I'm sorry. I should give you some shine here.
- [Karen] Does my makeup look okay?
- [Charles] You look beautiful.
Forget it, perfect, babe. - Spectacular.
- He's such a suck up. - All right.
- [Karen] If you call me babe one more time,
I'm gonna fight you.
(gentle music) (group chattering)
(water trickling)
- So where'd you wanna go eat?
- I don't know.
- I think there's a McDonald's
or a Chinese restaurant close by.
- Chinese sounds good.
- Yeah, I guess we can do Chinese.
- I wonder what they're bringing back for dinner.
- As long as they're bringing back some queso.
- Queso. - Mm-hmm.
Do you remember those football parties?
Super Bowl parties we used to have.
- Mm-hmm. - You know, we had
the guacamole and then we had chips
and then the- - Salsa.
- Man, that salsa. - Something about me
and spicy food.
- Do you remember that Thai restaurant opened
and you had to try it?
You were on some spicy food kick.
Hey. - Hey, yeah.
- [Edward] And so you wound up getting
food poisoning that night.
- [Charles] Oh, man.
That was the last time I ever, ever had Thai food, man.
Oh, I knew it tasted funny.
- He called me to say take good notes.
- Which he didn't.
- We had a test in chemistry that Thursday
and this guy, he ended up, (laughs)
He wanted, he wanted us to be prepared,
but he put the phone down so he could go puke.
(gags) - Oh, that's gross.
- Don't bring that up. - That's really gross.
- [Charles] Why'd you bring that up?
- He tried to put it on hold, but it was so close.
I heard everything.
You know, we didn't hear from him for three days after that.
- Man, I honestly, I think I lost,
what, 12 pounds that week?
Man, but you know, the good news is,
is I was able to go back to the school.
They let me retake that quiz and I scored an 83%.
- An 83.
- So what didn't you like in school?
- What do you think, man?
Art. - Mm-hmm.
- Oh. - Mm-hmm.
I cannot draw worth a damn.
I'm just being honest. - That is fact.
I've seen you draw and not everybody
can an artist, man. - No?
- Oh, okay.
All right. Is it, really?
(bright music) - Well,
what do you want me to draw?
A bird?
- Okay.
(Karen chuckles)
It's not that bad, man.
- Mm.
- Look at that, there's the legs
Now we got the wings.
Look at that.
It looks like a bird, right?
- Mm, mm. (chuckles politely)
- No?
(ominous music)
(water drips)
- [Bryan] Hey man, you up for a walk?
- It's definitely a good night for a walk.
- So is that like a yes or no?
- [Charles] You know, after all these years,
you haven't really changed at all.
- I am who I am.
I ain't got no reason to change.
- That's some really deep stuff, man.
- Come on, let's go, bro.
- You know, it really is a nice night
after all for a walk.
- I know, right? - Yeah.
- Whatever happened to that one girl
you were dating senior year?
Um, Stephanie.
- Oh gosh.
You mean Molly? - Yeah, yeah, Mary.
- Molly. - Yeah, that's what I said.
Molly. (scoffs)
- She broke up with me a few years back.
- Bro, she was hot.
- Yes.
Thank you.
This is exactly what I wanted to talk about.
- (chuckles) I'm just playing,
but let's be honest, she was smoking.
(chuckles) What?
- Can we talk about anything else?
You know, I mean strolling down memory lane
on my failed romance requires booze.
- (chuckles) Did you just say booze?
Ah man, I miss you.
I miss us.
I miss our group.
Sometimes it's hard to find friends
that you can just be yourself around.
- I agree, I mean, man, I'm too busy to make friends.
This is my first weekend off in over a year.
- Damn, for real? (ominous music)
- Yeah, just damn busy, man.
- [Bryan] Hey, check it out.
- You know, curious as to why the ranger
told us to stay out.
I mean, it doesn't look dangerous.
Not, at least not compared to any other woods.
- I'm telling you C-Dog, it must be haunted or something.
(ominous music)
- You don't really believe in ghosts, do you, Bryan?
- Hey, quiet, man.
They can hear you.
Only a fool doesn't believe.
- Well, I guess I'm a fool.
(intense music) I'm a fool!
Oh, jeez! - Oh, hey!
How's it going guys?
Ah, didn't mean to startle you.
Name's William.
I live just down the trail a ways back.
How you guys doing tonight?
- [Charles] We're good.
I'm Charles. - Charles.
- This is my buddy, Bryan.
- Nice to meet you. - We're staying in a cabin
in that direction for the weekend.
You didn't happen to hear us screaming did you?
- I may have, but I'm willing to let all that go
if you two join me for a late night dinner.
I don't get too much company out of this way.
- I can see why. - In the profession I do.
Let me start over, I'm a writer
and I just come out here for the isolation.
It's something about this winter nights
that makes you one with nature.
It's kind of perfect.
- No offense, man, but we don't really know you.
I mean...
- I get it, I mean, but I don't bite.
- He could be a ghost.
We probably should do what he commands.
- You know what man? All right.
- [William] Yes? Yeah?
- Yeah, let's do it. - All right, great.
Just follow me. This way.
All right.
- Yo, this is obviously so much better than I expected.
- Mm.
Well I'm glad you like it,
but honestly being isolated,
I kind of get time to try new things.
(chuckles)
- Yeah, I get that.
So, ah, when did you move out here?
- Mm, it was about two years ago.
You know after writing my novel,
it's hard to find inspiration.
So I had to find new ways and coming here,
I honestly think I found it.
You know, you gotta admit, there's just something
about this place, right?
- (chuckles) That's cool.
What kind of books have you written?
- Probably nothing you guys ever heard of.
My last book only sold about 10,000 copies,
but you know, I like it.
It's just the place for me.
(ominous music)
I like that whole sci-fi type of space feel, you know?
- Yeah, me too.
- Oh. - That's awesome.
- Thanks.
- You know, if you don't mind me asking,
you know, changing the subject,
actually, um,
what can you tell us about Silver Woods?
I see no one go in there.
I'm just curious.
You've been here for a while.
- Not much.
Um, hmm.
You know.
I haven't heard, there's nothing I can particularly say.
Was there something you wanna know about?
- Is it haunted?
- No, we don't really think that.
We were just wondering if anything ever happened in there.
I mean, no one ever goes in there.
(ominous music)
- When I first got into town, I was kind of secluded.
Didn't have too many friends.
So, I mean the town's only about around 200 people anyway.
So they kind of keep to themselves,
but I had to try new things, you know,
watching cooking channels was it.
(chuckles)
I guess Ranger Walker might tell some of those stories
to kind of keep people safe.
- So I'm assuming they tell that to everybody.
- You know, to keep out?
Yeah, but like I say it was just something
to keep 'em out of the woods.
Make sure they come back home.
Now I've heard some crazy stories back in the past.
- Like what?
- Um, I can just pull one up.
There's a great story about cannibals
who live deep in the woods,
that was eating people.
Another one's about a bear who grabbed
a little girl and, you know, drug her back.
But you know, I just think it's
(sighs)
Hikers getting lost or something like that.
Not knowing your way around, but
I don't know, the stories get crazier and crazier
as people just decide not to listen.
- All right. I mean, I just find it really odd, man.
I mean, especially if nothing ever happened in there.
- Well, you know, small towns have their secrets
and they like to keep it that way.
(ominous music)
- Well, I'm stuffed, man.
That was delicious. - That's real good.
- Absolutely. - Yeah?
- But it's getting late.
We should be heading back.
I mean, you saw the weather out there.
- Yeah. - You can get lost
in these parts.
- Thank you guys are keeping me company.
- Absolutely. - Likewise, bro.
Keep it real.
- For real. - Okay.
- Let me walk you guys out.
Let me get your coats.
(ominous music)
Y'all be safe. - Yeah, you too.
- You too, man. - Great.
(ominous music)
(glass clinks)
(intense music) (water drips)
- Bryan?
Hey, Bryan?
Are you sleeping?
Bryan?
Bryan?
- Yes man, I'm sleeping.
- Let's go.
Get up.
I thought we can go check out the woods
before everyone else wakes up.
- You'd lie to your friends?
I don't even know you any anymore, bro.
- Bryan, it's not lying.
What's the worst that can happen, bro?
Come on, I wanna get a better look at it.
Don't you?
- Bro, I already told you those woods were haunted.
- [Charles] Let's go, get up.
Let's go. (sighs)
- If it'll shut you up.
- Let's go.
Let's go.
Hurry up. - Shut up.
- While everyone is still sleeping.
Come on.
Come on, man, let's go.
(ominous music) (birds chirp)
(sighs)
- You go in first.
- Okay.
I will.
(ominous music)
- Karen have you seen Bryan and Charles?
- Um, no.
I mean, I know they went for a walk last night, but I was,
I fell asleep before they got back.
(sighs)
- I'm gonna be mad if they got breakfast without us.
I mean it's okay to wake me up if food's involved.
- Mm-hmm.
(ominous music)
- [Edward] Hey, where the heck have the two of you been?
- Breakfast.
- Why didn't you wake me up?
Hello?
(ominous music)
- I'm sorry.
- It's okay to wake me up, man.
- Hey, Edward, it's okay.
We can just go to town and get something to eat.
I'll go and get Linda.
- We have to go.
(ominous music)
- [Charles] Bye.
- [Edward] That was weird.
- Yeah. That's Bryan and Charles that you're talking about.
Bryan was a guy snorted Kool-Aid and Charles is the guy
who can turn Kool-Aid into rocket fuel if he wanted to.
(laughs)
I guess what I'm trying to say is that they're weird.
Like you have weird friends.
(sighs)
- Wait, Bryan snorted Kool-Aid?
- Yeah, yeah, it was junior year.
I, um, I paid him $5 to do it.
(door slams)
- Okay.
We have to convince them.
We have to hurry.
(ominous music)
- [Bryan] Do you have any ideas?
- We can trick them, make up a story to get them in there.
All we need to do is have them take a couple steps in there
and they'll see exactly what's going on in Silver Woods.
- What if it doesn't work?
What if they don't fall for the trick?
- Shh, we'll just have to be really convincing.
Okay?
That's all we have to do.
(ominous music)
- All right, we'll just keep to ourselves until nightfall.
- They won't go in if we tell them the truth right away.
Okay. - All right.
We'll just keep to ourselves. - All right.
Till nightfall? - Yeah.
- We're kinda running out of time.
(ominous music)
(stairs creak)
(gentle music)
- I was hoping we'd all go out for dinner tonight.
You know it's our last night,
I figured we'd do something big.
We can dress up.
Did you bring a dress?
- You don't think what I'm wearing is nice enough?
- No, you look great.
You know, I just, um,
yeah, I just didn't know if you, you know,
wanted do something fancy, like if you had a dress.
- (chuckles) Yeah, yeah, I definitely,
I think I have something to wear,
so did you bring a tux?
- Yeah.
Bryan made me.
- Oh, so this was Bryan's idea.
- No, I can wear the tux
if you want me to.
Do you want me to wear the tux?
- Yeah. Yeah.
You know, I'd like to see you in a tux.
I like a man that likes to look good for his woman.
(gentle music)
- Okay.
I'll go get it.
- Oh, Edward.
Wait a second.
Do you remember Senior Prom?
- Hmm.
Yeah.
Yeah, I remember I only got one dance with you.
And then you, you ditched me for,
to hang out with Tony or whatever his name was.
(gentle music)
- You know, I know that an apology after all this time
probably doesn't mean much,
but I really am sorry.
I feel like that was the moment
we stopped being best friends
and believe me, choosing Tony over you,
it was a huge mistake.
(gentle music)
- That's all right.
I know how much you liked him.
- Well, let me make it up to you.
(romantic music)
Let's dance?
- Right here? - Of course.
(footsteps shuffle)
- Well, you two have been acting pretty strange.
Where did you disappear to all afternoon?
Mm, careful, people are gonna think
that you're causing trouble.
- It's nothing like that.
You ever know something you're not supposed to,
and you wanna tell someone?
Well, we went to the woods and we found something.
Arthur and I.
(ominous music)
- Um, who?
- Me and this guy.
- Bryan? Who is this Arthur?
- Forget the fact that I forgot his name, okay?
It's been a long day, but it doesn't matter.
You're not gonna believe this.
- Won't believe what?
- We met someone in town who told us
the truth behind Silver Woods.
- Arthur. - Yes.
The reason they don't want us going in there
is 'cause there's treasure buried.
- You guys need to get more sleep.
No more late night walks.
- In the 1960s, a plane crashed.
The pilot was never found.
Neither was $5 million worth of gold.
That's why the ranger and others keep people out.
So they can find the treasure themselves.
- And you believe this story?
- If you see what we found,
you would too.
Come with us.
See for yourself.
We're your friends.
- I trust you guys.
I'm just, I'm just worried about you.
- There's no need.
It's just right off the side of the road.
That's why we think nobody's found it yet.
- [Linda] All right, I'll go.
- Follow us. - Oh.
Oh, we're going now?
- Now.
(crickets chirp)
- What am I even looking for?
I don't even see anything.
- Do you see that funny looking tree over there?
Right to the side of it,
there's a bunch of debris scattered everywhere,
which means an airplane did crash
and the stories are true.
- And there can be treasure.
So let's go.
- Are you guys coming?
- Go ahead.
We'll be right behind you.
I just wanna see your face when you get closer.
(intense music)
(Linda screams)
It's done.
(gasping)
(gentle music)
- Oh my gosh.
I just remembered that you wanted to go and eat.
So, we should probably go and do that before it's too late.
(ominous music)
- Excuse me.
Hey, how's it going?
Do you happen to know a Charles or a Bryan?
- [Edward] Yeah, actually. How did you know?
- I met them last night.
I offered them to come up for a late night dinner.
We talked a little bit.
Got to know each other.
- [Edward] Hmm.
Oh, most likely when they went on their walk last night.
- Are they doing okay?
- As far as I know.
Why?
- I seen them go in the woods and it seemed like
they were getting attacked.
I don't know by what or who.
The name's William.
I live nearby and
(sighs) I go on these walks to kind of clear my mind.
But I ran over to see what's going on
and as soon as it started, it seemed to end.
They left out seemingly okay,
but maybe they was joking around.
Just worried, you know?
- Actually now that you mention it,
they're acting a little differently,
but they didn't mention any attack.
- No, probably it's nothing.
Like I said, you know, just horsing around.
I don't mean to bother you with this,
especially something so silly,
but just, you know...
What's your name? - Edward.
- Edward? - Yes.
- Great, great, great. - Nice to meet you.
- [William] Nice to meet you too.
Hey, if you need anything,
just let me know.
- And I'll definitely keep an eye on them.
- Please do, please do. - Yeah.
- All right.
- You take care. - All right, be safe.
- [Edward] Yeah.
(ominous music) (crow caws)
(whistles)
(knocks on door)
- Hello.
Can I help you, sir?
- Yes, miss.
I just had some reports of some suspicious looking people
in the area.
I was wondering maybe, maybe you heard something?
- No, I actually,
I haven't gone out today at all.
(chuckles)
- Mind if I come in?
See, I left my cell phone at the station and if I could,
I really need to make an important phone call.
- Yeah, of course. - Well, thank you.
So where are your friends?
- I don't know, actually,
but Edward, he went into town.
- Hmm.
And when's the last time you seen him?
- Yesterday.
I went to bed early last night.
We're leaving in the afternoon so they should
all be back here pretty soon.
- Oh yeah?
And you said Edward.
He went to town?
- Yeah, yeah. He went to one of the shops.
He likes to collect shot glasses,
which is kind of ironic 'cause he doesn't drink.
Yeah, he like has one from everywhere.
- Is that right?
That Edward seems like a real nice boy.
Be a shame if something happened to him.
- What do you mean?
- Oh, nothing, it's just...
Well, when I was his age,
my wife and I, we lost our first child.
See, she couldn't breathe on her own.
At that point in my life,
I was going through a real tough time, you know?
But it taught me a valuable lesson.
You see, the family,
they meant everything to me.
At that time I was going through a career change,
and Dad got sick.
You know, nothing really was turning out
the way I planned it.
You know what though, in the end,
we wound up having five beautiful, healthy children.
I always wanted a big family.
- Oh.
Well, you know, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter,
but what does that have to do with Edward?
- [Walker] Oh nothing, it's just,
if he never got to experience that,
that'd be a shame, you know?
He does remind me of myself a little bit.
You know, when I was his age.
- Well I hope you catch those suspicious looking people.
I think Edward should be back here like any moment.
Did you still wanna use my phone?
- Yes, please. I'm sorry.
I guess I'm just stalling.
See I,
I really don't wanna make this phone call.
I gotta report five missing people.
I think they went into the woods.
(phone taps)
(fist whacks)
(intense music)
(ominous music)
- Hey guys, I'm back.
Anybody here?
Karen?
Guys?
(ominous music)
Anybody here?
Charles?
Guys?
Anybody here?
Maybe they're upstairs.
(ominous music)
Hey guys?
Is there anybody here?
That's weird.
Hey guys?
Let's not hide.
This isn't funny.
This is so weird.
(ominous music)
Hey, guys.
- Come over here.
- What are you doing?
- We're going into the woods.
- Why? We're supposed to keep out of the woods.
That's what the ranger said.
- It's not dangerous.
Come over here.
(ominous music)
- Maybe in a minute, I need to get my things
out of the cabin.
My bag. - No, you don't!
You, you don't need anything.
(intense music) (crow caws)
- I'd feel safer if I had water,
supplies, you know, I just...
- Come over here.
- You said that already.
Why don't y'all come back to the cabin with me?
- No.
- You guys are acting very weird.
Is everything okay?
(intense music)
(both grunt)
Charles, man, cut it out!
Joke is over, man!
(grunts)
(groans)
- Did you see where he went?
- No, I can't believe we lost him!
Fuck! - We didn't lose him.
There's too much at stake.
- Hey, I think he went this way.
- [Charles] Let's go.
(groans)
(breathes heavily)
(sighs)
(alarm beeps)
(groans)
- Mr. Walker, Ranger Walker, sir.
Mr. Walker. - Yeah, boy?
What's the problem?
- It's my friends, sir.
Something's wrong with them. They just tried to attack me.
- Yeah, I know.
(ominous music)
- What do you mean you know?
- So simple.
Stay out of the woods.
I don't say it because I think it's fun.
- What are you talking, what are you talking about?
What did you do to my friends?
- Don't go blaming me for your friend's curiosity,
which by the way, those ain't your friends no more.
(ominous music)
- What?
What do you mean?
- You wanna know the truth about Silver Woods?
Why I warned you to stay out?
Want to know what really happened to your friends?
- Yes, I do.
- When you go in those woods,
something else comes out in your place.
- William you knew about this?
- Silver Woods is a prison.
You get trapped while something else gets in your body
and becomes free.
- My family been trapped in there for nearly 50 years.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
See, we was on vacation.
My boy wanted to go on a hike.
Silver Woods just happened to catch my attention on the map.
No more than a minute after we started on that damn trail,
we was attacked!
(ominous music)
It all happened so fast.
I didn't know what to think.
Next thing I knew I was lying on my back,
looking up and staring back at me,
it was my own body.
I thought it was a dream,
but it wasn't.
- It's like sharing a chair
and then you get pushed off.
My body wasn't mine anymore.
- That is bullshit.
You don't expect me to believe this, do you?
- I wouldn't have believed it myself if I didn't see it.
- What my boy means is,
see we had a lot of time to think about things,
you know, after they happened.
See, our bodies got up.
They, they walked right out of the woods
and I tried to chase after them,
I tried to give chase to him, but there was like a,
like a barrier was keeping us inside.
I don't know why it's like this,
it just is.
(ominous music)
- The people that took our bodies explained to us,
it's like a portal to Hell.
Seven demons escaped before the portal closed,
in between this barrier.
No way in,
no way back to the place they came from.
A long time passed before anyone came along.
One by one, those demons picked off travelers
as they came on walking by.
- You know, I was the first one out.
Park ranger drove up one day.
I just knew that was my chance.
He walked in real slow on account
of he was carrying his bag of equipment.
It was too easy to take him down.
I just wanted out so bad.
You know, I just wanted,
I just wanted my family to finally be free.
(ominous music)
You know, at one point in my life,
I never thought I could do that to another person.
Not, not even a stranger, but in time
any man become a demon
if you give him a good enough reason.
- I mean, after all
Dad just wants the best for us.
A good, long life.
- After that, I just
(shovel clacks)
Pretended to be the ranger.
I mean, it wasn't like I can just go tell the police, right?
I mean, shit was too big.
No, I just decided the best thing to do
was just wait for folks to come through,
try to lure them in into them woods one by one,
so I could finally get my family free.
That's when this guy showed up.
You know, he really was a writer
come on vacation from out of town.
We started talking.
It didn't take long for me to convince him
to go in them woods.
My son Max, he took him over.
Well then, we ran into some trouble.
- No one really noticed when my dad
took over the ranger, but, hmm, him,
when he didn't come back that weekend,
his family got a little worried,
started looking for him.
- You know, at first I thought this could be good.
If I can get them to go in the woods
then my family would be free.
You know, nobody was interested.
You see, William was originally staying
on the other side of town.
So despite all my claims that I seen him by the woods,
nobody, not even a damn search party
thought that's where he'd be.
And then we started to panic.
(ominous music)
- We figured maybe if I just pop up out of nowhere,
I can tell people I just lost track of time.
You know, with my novel.
Huh.
Then maybe then they'll just all calm down.
I mean, we wanted the attention,
just not too much where people started
to find out the secret.
We just want our family out.
- So what we decided to do was
we decided we'll just wait till
a big enough group came through.
See if we can get five people in them woods,
then it all be okay.
You see my family could take over their bodies
and well, they wouldn't be gone long enough
for anybody to miss 'em.
As cold as this sounds,
I truly do not care what happens
when my family gets out.
Shit, someone will go looking for you,
by that time we'll be in your bodies far, far away.
- You can't be serious.
You'd be destroying people's lives
(ominous music)
- For my family!
So my family can live.
'Cause that's all that matters.
- What about my friend's families?
My family?
Their lives matter!
- I know, I know.
But this is gonna happen
whether you like it or not.
- I didn't go in those woods,
my friends did.
- (chuckles) And you're okay just screwing 'em over?
- They didn't listen to me.
- And I warned you not to go in them damn woods!
(ominous music)
- I'm not going in those woods.
I'm not going in there.
- You don't have a choice.
There's too many of us
and only one of you.
(intense music) (shovel clacks)
(shovel scrapes)
(intense music)
(panting)
(suspenseful music)
(breathes heavily)
(door opens)
- Find him. Make sure he doesn't escape!
(grunts)
(fist whacks)
(suspenseful music)
- He has to be here somewhere.
(door creaks)
(suspenseful music)
Hey, what was that?
I heard the door.
(stairs creak)
(suspenseful music)
(shovel scrapes)
(shovel clanks)
(gasps)
(whistles)
- Eddie?
Can I call you, Eddie?
Come on out, boy.
(suspenseful music)
(Karen shrieks)
(intense music) - I'm so sorry.
I'm so sorry.
(shovel whacks) (groans)
(body thuds)
(shovel clanks)
- Enough!
(somber piano music)
(Edward groans)
(cries)
- [Charles] Diane.
- Arthur, get some rope.
We need to tie him up so he can't run again.
Mary, get that chair.
Sit him in that chair.
(somber music)
(Edward groans)
- Get him in that chair, boy.
- Come on.
- Eddie. - You don't have to do this.
- I'm so sorry, Eddie.
- You don't have to do this.
- I don't wanna have to do this.
- You don't have to do it.
- But we all gotta do things
- You don't have to do this. - We don't wanna do.
- You don't have to do this.
- Give me your hand now. - You don't have to do this.
You don't have to do this. - I'm so sorry, boy.
- You don't have to do this.
You don't have to do this.
Don't do this.
- Now.
- What do you want?
What do you, what do you want, huh?
- Tie this around the back. - Anything.
- Get this, tie him up.
You tie him up so he can't run again, all right?
- You don't have to do this.
Don't do this.
Don't do this. - Listen, listen to me.
There's a little bit of a...
Now look at me, all right?
Look at me.
How many fingers am I holding up?
- Three. (hand whacks)
(somber music)
- Good, now I know you can see straight.
You need to look at me.
(sobs)
- You don't have to do this, man.
You don't have to do this!
- It's over.
- You don't have to do this! - Shh, it's over.
(sobs) (somber music)
Stop trying to run,
stop being afraid.
- (sobs) I'll do anything.
I'll do anything.
- Now I've been waiting for this for a very long time.
(sobs)
Shoot.
The things is, I've been waiting to tell someone thank you
- Don't kill me! - For just as long.
So thank you
(sobs)
For giving my family a second chance at life.
Now, boy I wish you the best.
- Help, Charles, Charles!
- Are you ready?
Are you ready?
(whimpers)
All right.
(whimpers)
(gentle music)
(pats on back)
(Edward screams)
- Dad? - Son.
Thank you.
(ominous music)
- Help, help, help!
Help!
(intense music)
(intense music) (crow caws)
