Okay, are we rolling? Oh. Okay, great.
Okay, so this was our craziest, most unexpected mystery yet.
And I couldn't believe who we were about to run into!
[Morgan Freeman] Along the windswept shoreline
of Lake Geary, there sits a prison.
Not just any prison. Cheever State Penitentiary.
Closed for almost a century, the prison shut down under strange circumstances.
If these weathered stones could talk, what would they say?
Would they tell a story of mystery?
Of the supernatural? Of ghosts?
Gh-gh-gh-ghost!
Well, Jeanene, I actually think it sounds better
as more than one ghost.
"Ghosts," you know, plural.
No! Ghost! Right behind you!
[yells]
[bats screeching]
โช Scooby-Dooby-Doo And Guess Who? โช
โช We know you're One in a million โช
โช Scooby-Doo โช
โช We can count on you, Scooby-Doo โช
โช To catch and unmask That villain โช
[Velma] Jinkies, it's Morgan Freeman!
Go away!
This is my prison! It is mine!
C'est le mien!
-[horn honking] -[grunting]
The prison had been closed to the public for years,
so we didn't expect to see anyone,
let alone the ghost of Jean Lebeau.
[shouting]
-[exclaims] -[tires screech]
[yells]
[Fred] Hang on, gang!
[grunts]
[all yelling]
Like, man, it's a good thing they invented seat belts.
Yeah! Safety first.
[metal creaking]
[Morgan] Hello, kids.
[all yell]
-Are you okay? -Jeepers! It's--
[all] Award-winning actor, producer and narrator, Morgan Freeman!
Yeah, that's me.
Like, dude, where's that big scary ghost?
[groans] He threw a rock at us!
[whimpers]
[Morgan] Well, he seems to have vanished in all the excitement.
Phew.
What are you doing here, Mr. Freeman?
I'm making a documentary about this old prison.
It's said to be haunted and clearly that seems to be true.
What a kooky coincidence, Mr. Freeman.
That's why we're here.
We're investigating the mysterious ghost of Jean Lebeau.
Hoo-hoo, like, against our will.
We hate ghosts.
[all groan]
[Morgan] Now, don't worry, kids.
This is Jeanene, my cameraperson.
Sorry, Mr. Freeman, we're gonna have to start the documentary over.
When the ghost attacked, my camera went crazy
and deleted all the footage.
It is notoriously difficult to actually videotape a ghost.
Mostly because they aren't real.
That ghost sure looked real to me.
I'm with Jeanene. That ghost certainly gave me a fright.
Well, don't you worry, Mr. Freeman,
we'll get to the bottom of this mystery.
-It's what we do. -Really?
So, let me get this straight.
You're four kooky teenagers and a talking dog that solve mysteries?
-Exactly. -And you drive around
in a colorful van, actively searching for these mysteries?
You know it, Mr. Freeman.
And sometimes, the mysteries just find us.
But you came here today hoping the ghost of Jean Lebeau would attack you?
-[all] Yes! -[Shaggy and Scooby-Doo] Sadly!
Fascinating.
If you kids don't mind, I'd love to add you to my documentary.
[camera beeps]
-Really? -Yes, please!
Then lead the way, mystery teens.
-[Velma] Happy to. -[Shaggy] No problemo.
[suspenseful music playing]
[Morgan] One interesting feature of the prison is the Hall of Portraits.
Here, there's a painting of every warden that ever ran the place.
Man, check out this dude.
Warden Snickerson.
What a great name, huh?
Like Snickerdoodles!
Oh, yeah, [chuckles] Scoob, our favorite cookie!
[both] Snickerdoodles!
[both chuckling]
Warden Snickerson was in charge here in 1872.
That same year, that prisoner, Jean Lebeau,
started an uprising, and burned the prison to the ground.
[banging at door]
[all exclaim]
Hey, sorry. Arthur Lebeau, real estate.
I'm hoping to turn these prison grounds into some great condos.
I'm gonna make a fortune. [chuckles]
Did you say "Lebeau"?
As in, Jean Lebeau?
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
He was my great-great-great grandpapa.
Real estate agents are always prime suspects in these kind of mysteries.
Especially ones who are related to the actual ghost.
Hmm. Suspicious, indeed.
[banging on door]
[all gasp]
We're always getting startled like that.
It's really unsettling.
Mystery-solving isn't for the faint of heart.
[angrily] Is that your van outside?
Yes. Who wants to know?
Me! I'm the caretaker here.
Yeah, you wrecked the wall.
And now, I gotta go fix it.
[grunts] The repairs just never end with this place!
I hate it here.
[softly] I wish this old prison would just slide into Lake Geary
and be gone forever.
Oh, and angry caretakers are really good suspects too.
A lot of times, they're not even real caretakers.
Just treasure hunters or oil men.
[rustling]
Hmm, curiouser and curiouser.
[laughing] Like, man, that just comes with the job.
Like, paintings are always kind of watching us.
Yeah! Like this.
[whimpering]
Uh-oh.
[Morgan] Yeah, um, thank you, Scooby.
[Morgan] For decades, this cell block has long sat in disuse,
strung with cobwebs and echoing an uneasy past.
-[Shaggy] Echo! -[echoing]
Scooby-Dooby-Doo!
[echoing]
Now, batting in the bottom of the ninth,
Shaggy Rogers!
[echoing]
[both laughing]
Quit messing around, you two.
And help us look for clues.
Our young mystery-solving teenagers certainly seem dedicated to their work.
Let's take a closer look.
Hmm, I think I found something.
Strange tracks of some kind in the dust.
They look recent.
Man, can I be honest?
I hate it when Velma finds a clue.
[Morgan] Why is that, Shaggy?
Because it means the ghost is about to attack us
and try to scare us off.
It happens every time, man.
It usually happens as a surprise.
One of us shouts the name of the ghost or the monster,
and then another of us points out, "Yes, that's why we're here."
But turns out, they were trying to say the monster was right behind one of us
the whole time.
It's all actually a little silly.
It's... It's the ghost of Jean Lebeau!
Yes, Shaggy, that's why we're here.
Investigating the ghost of Jean Lebeau.
Oh, he's standing right behind you.
[Morgan] Indeed, the ghost of Jean Lebeau was standing right behind Velma,
which gave her a scare, and she screamed!
-Jinkies! -[yells]
[Morgan] Jinkies? What is Jinkies?
It just comes out. I actually don't even know what it means.
-It's like when Daphne says-- -Jeepers!
-And how Freddy says-- -Hold the phone!
[Morgan] And what phone are you supposed to be holding, exactly?
I actually know what "zoinks" means.
[Morgan] You do? What does it mean, Shaggy?
Well, since you asked, Mr. Morgan Freeman dude,
it means, [loudly] "I'm scared out of my ever-loving mind!"
As in...
[yells]
[all screaming]
[ghost laughing]
It seems being part of a mystery-solving team requires a lot of running.
[ghost continues laughing]
[grunts]
[grunting]
Hmm?
[stifling sneeze]
[growling] Hmm.
It also seems that the old "finger under the nose" trick
does, indeed, stop a sneeze from happening. Fascinating.
-[Shaggy] Like, Morgan Freeman. -Yes, Shaggy.
I think the ghost dude heard your narration.
What makes you say that?
-[growls] -Oh. I see.
[screaming]
[Shaggy whimpering]
[ghost growls]
[yells]
[yelling]
[yelling]
This isn't the first time our mystery-solv--
Shh.
Well, gang, it looks like we have a real mystery on our hands.
He always says that.
[Fred] Let's split up and look for clues.
He always says that too.
[Morgan] Fred, tell me more about this splitting up and looking for clues.
Well, we split up and then we look for clues.
[Morgan] But by splitting up, don't you put your fellow mystery-solvers
in greater danger?
Wouldn't it be safer if you all stayed together?
[chuckles] Never thought of that.
Hey, maybe we could talk about traps.
So, uh, let's split up and look for clues.
But, uh, let's be super careful out there, gang, okay?
Daphne, Velma, you come with me to the infirmary.
Shaggy, Scooby, you check out the basement.
-Huh? -Huh?
[Morgan] Poor Shaggy and Scooby, they always get the basement.
Like, we know. We know.
But we'll let you in on a little secret there, Mr. Morgan Freeman dude.
We have a secret. [chuckles]
We never go to the basement.
Like, as soon as we're out of sight, we go searching for food instead.
[both giggling]
So, true to form, Shaggy and Scooby find themselves
in their natural habitat.
The cafeteria. And despite the food being quite old,
Shaggy and Scooby create a gigantic snack.
I can't be certain, but it seems they've used
sardines, canned ham, old mustard, ketchup,
cinnamon buns, crackers, bits of string,
and several different kinds of mystery meat.
I can't even begin to guess what they are.
Nor do I wish to.
Whoa!
You said it, Morgan Freeman voiceover.
[Morgan] But that doesn't seem to deter these two from consuming this "food."
Dude, we eat anything.
I ate a car once.
[Morgan] The whole thing?
Yeah. But he did eat it in pieces.
[both giggling]
[Morgan] But as Shaggy and Scooby enjoy their "food,"
they start to get the feeling that something is wrong.
[both yell and whimper]
[Morgan] It's only a tiny mouse casting a big shadow.
What a humorous surprise. Ha, ha.
[both laughing]
Shaggy and Scooby think the danger has passed,
but it seems the law of total probability can be stretched
beyond its current mathematical boundaries.
As in, the ghost is standing right behind them.
[Shaggy and Scooby-Doo yell]
[Morgan] And thus, we see Shaggy and Scooby in several more
of their natural behaviors.
There's the food fight...
[both grunting]
Locking the ghost in a cupboard he can easily break out of...
-[both yell]-And pretending to be cafeteria ladies.
This temporarily fools the ghost.
It seems Shaggy and Scooby have finally gotten something right.
But soon, the ghost realizes his mistake and becomes even angrier.
[screams]
[Morgan] Nearby, Velma's found a clue.
Huh! These match the strange tracks I saw earlier.
Jeepers, it's from this ground-penetrating radar equipment.
Someone's been using it all over.
-[Shaggy] Look out! -[Scooby-Doo yelling]
[thudding]
[Morgan] Uh-oh, Velma seems to have lost her glasses.
My glasses! I can't see without my glasses!
[Morgan] Velma, have you ever considered contact lenses?
Actually, Mr. Freeman, I tried them once.
My contact lens! I can't see without my contact lens!
Glasses are more my style.
[ghost growls]
Mr. Freeman, is that you?
[all screaming]
[ghost yelling]
Here we see elements of quantum physics come into play,
as the gang runs impossibly from cell to cell.
[all yelling]
Until things take a drastic turn.
[all scream]
Like, man, where'd Jeanene go?
How did she just disappear like that?
Dun, dun, dun!
Like, dude, it's not like she went through a solid concrete--
-Whoa! -[thudding]
[banging]
Hold the phone, it's a fake floor!
[Morgan] True to form, Shaggy's ludicrous actions
do indeed reveal a set of secret stairs.
Huh?
Shaggy, you're a genius!
I am? [chuckles]
I mean, yeah, I am.
[Morgan] Of course, Shaggy's not a genius.
Far from it.
You know it, Mr. Morgan Freeman voiceover dude! What?
Come on, gang and Mr. Freeman. Let's check it out.
[stairs creaking]
[Morgan] The stairs led down to a much older part of the prison.
Long forgotten.
And to the actual cell of Jean Lebeau from 1872.
[metal creaking]
The strange scribblings on the wall give Velma more clues,
her beautiful mind taking it all in.
-[stone scraping] -Hey, look!
[Morgan] Daphne found the diary of Jean Lebeau detailing what, perhaps,
this mystery is all about.
The original prison was built in the 1840s,
but in the early 1870s,
evil Warden Snickerson was working a terrible scheme.
The warden moved the lighthouselight during storms.
He tricked ships on Lake Gearyto run aground.
Then he made the prisoners collect the riches from the wreckage.
The warden kept all the gold and silver for himself in a secret vault,
deep in the prison.
[lock clicking]
-[whistling]-But a prisoner named Jean Lebeau
led an uprising against the warden,
and the prison was burned to the ground.
The treasure, lost forever.
A new prison was built atop the old, and the ghost of Jean Lebeau
has haunted it ever since.
Guys, this mystery is really starting to come together.
I like to help Velma as much as possible,
but usually by now, she's got the whole thing figured out.
[Morgan] Why don't you just ask her who did it?
I don't like to pry.
[Morgan] And so, Velma uses her wits and deductive reasoning to decipher
the clues and find the lost treasure room
-of old Warden Snickerson. -[taps]
-[scrapes] -[mechanism opens]
And what a treasure!
A king's ransom.
Which is great because it means we now have what the ghost wants.
[Morgan] And Fred can finally make his trap.
You know it, Mr. Freeman. It's trapping time!
[Morgan] I suspect you'll need bait.
Like, man, don't look at me!
It's your turn, Scoob.
No way!
[Morgan] You think you would do it for a Scooby Snack?
-Nope. -Two Scooby Snacks?
-Not a chance. -A whole box of Scooby Snacks?
[whimpers] Okay, I'll do it!
[munching]
Aww!
I have no self-control.
[Morgan] And so it was that Scooby-Doo became the baitfor the trap.
[groans]
[chuckles]
[sing-song] I got all the treasure.
It's my treasure. Treasure!
The treasure's mine! Treasure!
[creaking]
-[Scooby-Doo] Hmm? -[growling]
[whimpering]
[yells]
[Morgan] You wouldn't think such a silly deception could work,
but gold does strange things to people and ghosts alike.
[ghost yells]
[yelling]
[Morgan] Fooled into attacking, the ghost chases Scooby-Doo.
Round and round they go.
[ghost grunting]
[laughing wickedly]
[teeth chattering]
[thud]
[Morgan] Fred's trap now comes into play.
It seems unnecessarily complicated, but as the ghost soon finds out,
the trap is quite effective.
-[ghost yells] -[thuds]
-[yells] -[thuds]
Hoo-hoo, like, good job, Scoob.
Two for one! They didn't even know what hit 'em.
[trap whirring]
[bangs]
[Morgan] Shaggy and Scooby find themselves trapped as well.
-Oh, those two. -[both groan]
So what happens now?
We unmask the bad guy.
You do the honors, Mr. Freeman. All you have to say is,
"And now, let's see who this ghost of Jean Lebeau really is."
-And pull off the mask. -Thank you, Daphne.
And now, let's see who this ghost of Jean Lebeau really is.
It's, um, who, exactly?
It's Jeremy Snickerson.
[all] Oh, it's Jeremy Snickerson?
Jeremy Snickerson?
Again, not sure who that is.
Jeremy Snickerson is the great-great-great-great grandson
of the original Warden Snickerson.
This isn't the first time our mystery-solvers have unmasked someone
they never met before.
Isn't that right, Captain Cutler?
[water bubbles]
But that's not all.
[all] Jeanene!
Jeanene Snickerson.
Jeremy's twin sister.
Well, of course, Velma knew it all along.
It was the portrait of Warden Snickerson that made Velma suspicious.
Jeanene had a strong family resemblance.
Velma looked up Jeanene's credits,
and found the last name of Snickerson.
Meanwhile, her brother was the one using
the ground-penetrating radar.
When he located the lower levels of the prison,
he and his sister could now steal the treasure.
That's why Jeanene took the job working for me.
But they had to scare us away in order to complete their plan.
Having heard the family legend of Warden Snickerson's gold,
these twins wanted to retrieve it, and they would have gotten away with it too,
if it weren't for these meddling kids
and award-winning actor, yours truly, Morgan Freeman.
Uh, Mr. Freeman, I think they were supposed to say that last bit.
Oh, no. No, no. That sounded so good.
Yeah, pretty great having you say it, Mr. Freeman.
-Thank you. -You're welcome.
[engine starting]
Don't worry, Jeanene. I can handle the movie magic from here.
[police siren wailing]
We should probably let Shaggy and Scooby out of the cell now, huh?
[metal rattling]
They're gone!
[Morgan] You might be wondering how that is even possible.
Funny what a shaggy-haired teenand his talking dog will do
when all hope is lost.
[exclaims]
[gasps and grunts]
[Morgan] You see, Shaggy and Scooby were driven by a great need,
having been locked in this cellfor many, many minutes,
they had to escape at all costs.
They tunneled for what must have seemed an eternity.
[both yell]
[both exclaim]
[both yell]
[both whimpering]
In the end, they found the freedom they so desperately sought.
-[both sigh in relief]-The cafeteria.
[both laughing]
Here, they proceeded to make 500 layers of a crazy food sandwich
no one in their right mind would eat.
-Except these two. -[swallowing]
Leaving us with only one last thing to say.
Scooby-Dooby-Doo!
[theme music playing]
