Last night was intense
Beck, I'm still trying to erm...

get my head around some
of the stuff that happened.

Yep.

Now the team are still sleeping in the hotel
and we're heading over now to the other

side of the city to visit a location that
is the oldest coaching inn in Chester.

We're gonna meet the manager
there and speak to a staff member

who has had all types of
paranormal experiences, let's do this.

Believed to be the oldest coaching inn
in the city, the pied bull dates all the

way back to 1155 and still contains a
hand made staircase dating back to 1533.

The pied bull served for many
years as a stop off point for people

travelling up and down the country
and was once known as 'bull mansion'.

The hotel now boasts 31 bedrooms
and is a very popular drinking

establishment in the city,
containing it's very own micro brewery.

Of all the reputedly haunted buildings in
Chester, the pied bull is without a doubt

one of the most famous with it's paranormal
activity well known across the city.

In 1690 it is believed a man
named John Davies ventured down to

the cellar to fetch more ale
holding an empty jug and a knife.

It is said that he slipped on the wet stone
steps and fell on top of his own knife,

his ghost is said to be the route of
all paranormal activity in the building.

But it is not just the ghost of John Davies
that is known to haunt the pied bull,

reports of a lady dressed in victorian clothing
and a man sat reading a paper in the bar

have also been seen over
the years and some of the

hotel bedrooms are
apparently rife with activity.

We are about to meet with Dave,
the operations manager of the pied bull

who has granted US permission
to investigate this historic location.

Dave you're the operations manage here

for agreeing to talk to US and letting US
investigate this amazing location tonight.

I have to ask you, there are a
lot of rumours about this place,

are any of them actually true?
Is this place genuinely haunted?

Well there certainly are a lot of rumours
about the pied bull and one does start to

think, once there's that many rumours in
place is there something actually going on

because it's certainly got
the erm... it's got the numbers

there behind it to suggest
that there is something yes.

Have you yourself witnessed
anything at the location?

In the past, I've been here
for just over 8 years now and

in the past I've stayed over
night erm... in between shifts

TV turned on by itself in the middle of the
night which was very strange, I turned it

off with the remote control and then it came
back on by itself only a few minutes later

so erm... so yes there has
been some activity there.

Now obviously you've said off
camera that quite a few of your staff

members have witnessed things
here, quite a few of your guests.

Can you tell me some of those stories?

Well like I say there have been many stories
in the past but if I was to pick erm... a story

or 2, one of the stories would be from a
guest that stayed with US a few years back now

and she claimed to have
some intimate experiences

let's say with one of
our resident ghosts yes.

Intimate experiences?

Yeah that's erm... that's one
way of putting it yes... yeah.

Wow, ok erm... is there any
particular area in the location

that is quite high in paranormal
activity, any hotspots?

Sure, well of course some of our
hotel rooms erm... we've got room

9 erm... which is our premier suite
which is rumoured to be haunted

as is erm.. Rooms 7 and
11 and that story I've just

told you, that was also in
one of those rooms as well.

The cellar erm... a past landlord a few hundred
years ago now did actually tragically die in the

cellar he slipped onto his own blade down there
so that's rumoured to be haunted by his ghost

erm... other than that, the
kitchen has had some funny

goings on as well so erm...
so there's a few places yeah.

I cannot wait to investigate this location
tonight it's got everything I look for

in a location it's old, it's full of
history, theres so many rumours behind it

erm... and we will of
course let you know if

we capture anything,

and I decide to check out the

cellar where John Davies was
believed to have slipped back in 1690

and during our investigation
we would attempt to

document any paranormal
activity in this area.

Does the rumour have any truth
behind it or was it just a ghost story?

Ok Beck we're down in the
cellar now where it is said that

John Davies fell down the
stairs, landed on his own knife.

It all seems a bit far fetched to
me and I'm really, really sceptical

about this story, its your typical
ghost story isn't it of an old location?

Erm... but we have to
investigate it, gonna do a

evp session in here to
see if we pick anything up

on this staircase, to
see if there's any residual

energy, possibly an
intelligent haunting here as well.

There have been many travellers here, many
people have flocked through it's doorways.

back to the recording, becki

and I hear a loud bang coming
from somewhere in the cellar.

Was this John Davies letting US
know he was aware of our presence?

It was like a door slamming.

I hope we picked that up on audio.

There's lot of stuff down here it
is a cellar, it connects to the bar

upstairs, there are, there are noises
that occur in this cellar but that was...

That was really loud.

That was like a real big...

That's above US, that's, that's the pub.

Yeah, that's staff members.

The noise that we've just heard
was in here and it was like...

like just moved next to me.

I want to know what it was that
slammed, it sounded like a door slamming.

There could be a
very perfectly rational...

That's what I'm thinking...

Explanation.

If it's underneath the bar...

Is it like, if they slam a cupboard
or something does that move?

We'll have to go upstairs and
ask them and try and debunk that

but that is probably
the noise that we heard.

That's the exact noise we heard.

At this point we believe the noises are
coming from upstairs in the main bar and after

a few more evp sessions with no results, we
head back upstairs to debunk the loud bangs.

Rich we've just been down
the cellar can you tell me,

you know the black hatch
at the far end of the room?

Is there anything that bangs on that?

Erm... so the hatch down there is where our
deliveries come in through the cellar so that's

where they throw all the kegs down, so that's
just people walking passover the top of it.

So it often makes a banging sound?

Yeah I'm afraid so.

That's fantastic cos we've
just had a moment downstairs.

Becki and I are left extremely confused
after what Emma had just told US.

We had met Mary Ann
Cameron on our first night in

Chester and right now it
seemed like she was haunting US.

We quickly made our way back to the hotel.

I hear you're researching
the ghosts of Chester.

That's right yeah we're here for the next couple
of weeks investigating Chester erm... look

I received a call earlier today saying that
you wanted to meet US here is that correct?

I know all the ghost stories of Chester
both the new ones and the old ones.

Really? Erm... ok maybe you can
point US in the right direction then?

bull to finish off getting cut away shots,

Our time in Chester had started to
become a lot stranger than we could

have possibly imagined but we needed
to focus on the investigation ahead.

With the team briefed
and night falling over the

city, it was time to
investigate the pied bull.

Our approach for this
investigation would see

Charlie and I investigate
the 2 most haunted bedrooms

whilst becki and Emma
investigated the main bar

and rox would cover the main dining
room on the western side of the building.

4 locked off cameras would monitor
the key areas, with camera 1 in the

dining room, camera 2 in the bar and
cameras 3 and 4 covering both cellars.

We also had a thermal imaging
camera fixed on the main staircase.

Becki and Emma were armed
with a digital voice recorder, rox

had our sls camera set up on
a tripod in the main dining room.

Charlie was set up with the ovilus 5 which
constantly measures changes in the atmosphere

and uses instrumental trans communication
to bring through any possible responses

from any entities that may be present.

He also had a digital voice
recorders did I and I would also use the

temperature pod which measures sudden
temperature changes of 5 degrees or more.

Our third investigation had began.

This is the bar area.

So this is where there is
supposedly a man that's been spotted

reading a news paper.

I don't know whereabouts
in particular around here.

It's really oldy worldy in here.

Yeah it's nice.

Nice building.

You can definitely like
almost transport back

in time to like when it
was the coaching inn.

And we've got a thermal
imager on those stairs over there.

And those stairs are, I think they're from
like the 1500's so they're really old.

So it'll be interesting to see
whether we can capture anything

walking down or across the staircase.

Sir is there a man that reads the paper?

The gentleman that
sits and reads the paper,

we're new to this building.

So I'm in room 7 of the pied
bull, in the city centre of Chester.

Erm... this room is said
to be the most haunted

room and room 11 which
Dan is currently in now.

There's said to be a lot
of activity from children.

I have a digital voice recorder in my hand
so hopefully we capture something on this

and there's also
the ovilus 5 on here,

hopefully we pick
something up on that as well.

People have said that
they've heard children playing

in these rooms.

Is this somewhere where

I'm in the restaurant area in
the pied bull erm... Emma and

becks are in the bar area, Dan
and Charlie are in the bedrooms.

Obviously there's a
lot of noise from outside

but apparently in this
area there's voices,

footsteps so...

I don't feel uneasy or anything but...

It's one of those buildings that,

it's hard to explain

it feels like somethings gonna
happen but you're not on edge,

as such.

The sls is recording as well so, you
never know what we might catch on that.

There's a noise in the
bar area but that could be

Emma and becks.

Ok so I'm in room 11

which is said to be
one of the most haunted

in the entire location.

Charlie is in the other haunted
room which is room 7 downstairs

and the girls are on the
bottom floor, Beck and Emma

in the main bar area with rox

in the restaurant.

This hotel feels really,
really atmospheric tonight.

There's a lot of noise
coming from outside.

Busy city life.

But it does feel like you're alone here.

We've got this whole hotel to ourselves.

Charlie is a long way away
from me, the girls are even further.

And this room 11 is placed
right down the far end of

a corridor so it is pretty
freaky to think that...

I am literally isolated here.

Got a digital voice recorder
rolling and a temperature pod

just by the bed here.

Which picks up on
sudden, sharp temperature

drops or rises of 5 degrees or more.

And what's really
quite freaky is there is

an attic above me, I
can see the hatch here.

I would like to take the
opportunity at this point to

apologise to everyone watching
this for the state of my socks.

I had spent 4 days
living out of a suitcase but

there is simply no
excuse for this behaviour.

There's rumours that people speak, people
have heard your voice can I hear you?

I dunno if that was outside
or whether that was...

We have no idea if this noise came
from inside the location or outside

and there could be a number
of rational explanations for it.

The likelihood of it being
paranormal is extremely slim.

I just admit I do feel like
quite calm down here like...

This is a very popular inn.

downstairs in the restaurant.

1 hour into our
investigation and it seemed

like we were in for
a very quiet night.

Little did we know
that things were about

to take a very unexpected
and bizarre turn.

After Charlie hears something
in room 7, suddenly the

words 'aggressive' and 'Dan'
come through the ovilus 5.

Charlie had received
very few responses at

all for the first hour
of our investigation.

So it is extremely
fascinating that the ovilus is

responding moments
after Charlie hears a noise.

Can you tell me what you want?

This is one of the most bizarre
pieces of evidence we have ever

captured. Remember at this exact
moment I am upstairs in room 11

and there is no way I can know what
has just come through the ovilus 5.

Things are about to get crazy.

Ok that's picking up
on a 5 degree drop in

temperature, my god
what the *** hell was that!?

I've just heard the weirdest
like, movement over there.

I have no explanation for what this
huge noise is and it occurs within seconds

of the temperature pod picking up on
a sudden 5 degree drop in temperature.

Over the next few minutes
my mood suddenly starts to

change and I become aggressive
for absolutely no reason.

I don't even know what time it
is right now I just feel so weird.

I feel so spaced out.

I feel like I've been in
this room for like 10 hours.

I really wishi knew what
time it was right now.

And I wish that *** temperature
pod would stop flashing at me!

I don't even know why I've just done that.

I need to get out of this room.

I just don't feel myself at all.

It feels like I'm talking
to myself right now

but I'm actually trying
to talk to the camera.

That is so weird.

coincidence that at the same time

I suddenly start to act
aggressively and out of character.

All within a few minutes
of the temperature

pod detecting a 5 degree
drop in temperature

and then a huge unexplained noise
occurring just meters away from me.

This wave of events is
fascinating to US investigators.

The girls witness no activity
at all downstairs and as I

completely lose track of time,
Charlie heads upstairs to get me.

I heard the biggest noise behind you

So that's interesting that

watched like you're being observed

but then it's almost like they're trying
to get your attention at the same time.

With the team regrouping and
sharing our experiences, we decide

to split into 2 teams with Charlie
and becki heading into cellar 2

whilst rox, Emma and I moved
into cellar 1 where John Davies is

believed to have slipped and fell
onto his own knife back in 1690.

We would attempt to map his apparition on
the sls camera whilst becki and Charlie would

use our portal device to see if they could
pick up on any voices through the white noise.

Ok, erm... Emma, rox and me are now
down in cellar 1, this is the place where

John Davies slipped to his death
supposedly in 1690 now guys,

what we've done is we've put
a rem detector on the staircase

because this is obviously where he
slipped or supposedly slipped, we've also

got the sls camera as well, I wanna
try and map in a figure on this staircase

or anywhere in this
cellar right now, it's really

dark, it's really eerie
down here guys isn't it?

Sir can you tell me what happened here?

Was there an accident?

When Dan and I was filming in the day,

one of the staff said off
camera that apparently

somebody hung themselves
off the stairs down here.

No and then they said
there's erm... rumours of like

something to do with kids
or a child down here as well.

I feel like I'm gonna see
something move down that corridor.

I think that is because
it's open as well it's...

You can't see everywhere

audio that we cannot explain.

The cellar is too far down
for this to be noise conflict from

rox and myself in cellar 1.

staircase and caught absolutely nothing.

It's horrible, I keep like trying to
looking around me trying to Gauge...

This is such a weird space.

nothing is captured on our camera.

At this exact moment, our
locked off camera near the

portal device captures a
very clear piece of audio

which sounds like a young girl moaning.

Becki and Charlie do
not hear this and the

voice does not come
through the portal device.

We believe this is something called dvp
which stands for direct voice phenomena.

Meaning it is heard
in real time, just like

when you hear people
speak in every day life.

This is an amazing capture
and we cannot debunk it,

listen carefully to the audio
from our locked off camera.

Nothing further was captured in cellar 2 and
in cellar 1 we witnessed nothing however,

Emma's nausea had become so bad that she had
to sit out the remainder of the investigation.

activity earlier in the investigation.

was that noise was in here,

right at the same time as the temperature
pod picked up an 5 degree drop.

paranormal, it was not normal.

if there is anything intelligent in here

with some of the strangest activity

we had ever witnessed and had
taken US a step closer to our goal.
