We're about 2 miles outside one
of the most haunted cities in britain.

there is a woman who has got wind

that we are filming in Chester
and wants to meet US tonight

now they don't know anything about
her other than her name is Mary Ann.

Right where you're standing
near the cross you are

surrounded by ghosts and on
this row alone there are 8 ghosts

As a new day dawns in the city of
Chester, the team prepares for our

first lockdown and as part of our
investigation at ye olde kings head

we have called in our good friend
Paul rowland, a paranormal investigator

who has a unique range of custom
designed investigation equipment

and also has a vast knowledge of
the hauntings at ye olde kings head.

A few years back, Paul captured these fascinating
pictures at the location which appear to show

a dark figure and also a fully armoured Roman
soldier on the upper floors of the kings head.

My names Paul rowland,
I'm a designer, builder and

inventor of paranormal
investigation equipment.

On about the first or the second time
I came to investigate here I caught 3

fascinating photographs in room 6 and that's
just kept me hooked on coming back here

I just know there's so much activity here.

There are 2 different sides to
my investigation techniques,

one is the photography angle,
for that I built specialised light

systems, this is pulse modulated
ultra Violet and blue light

used with a digital slr camera on a tripod,
longish exposure of 2 to 3 to 4 seconds

and this is the technique that has allowed
me to capture the various ghosts and spirits

in a lot of areas of this building.

Erm... it differs from
conventional flash photography

and this is why I'm
able to get these results.

The other aspect of the technology
was it's always been my ambition to create

and develop evp equipment to try and
record the voices of ghosts and spirits

and again there's 2
aspects of that and one is live

evp to ask questions
and listen back in real time

but more successfully up to now has been the
recording side and again I've built specialised

equipment erm... multi element microphones
to record and we do short burst recordings

play them back straight away
and listen if we get any results.

Now getting the chance to
go back to ye olde kings head

and investigate was an
amazing moment for the team.

I'm such a huge fan of the location
it's one of those places that can

constantly surprise you each time you
return and we'd not been there since 2017,

back then we'd captured incredible results, now
for this investigation we were joined by our

good friend Paul rowland, Paul is an old school
investigator who uses modern day technology

and it really is the perfect blend. I
was getting really excited because

Paul had showed me some the
equipment that we were going to be using

including his custom designed camera
which had captured unbelievable images.

This was it, we were ready to go.

The ye olde kings head is possibly
the most famously haunted building

in the city dating back to 1622
and is built on Roman foundations.

There was previously a
town house built on this spot

in 1208 for a local clerk
known as 'Peter the clerk'

who was the administrator
of Chester castle. This historic

building has served as an inn and
even a brothel during the 1700's.

One of the most fascinating moments
in the recent history of this location

was the discovery of a sword and
slippers dating back to the 17th century.

These items were found under
the floor boards of one of the

bedrooms during a refurbishment
of the building in the 1930's.

It is believed that the sword was used
as part of a crime or a possible duel

hundreds of years ago and was buried in
secret under the floor of what is now room 4.

England during the 17th century was a
place of superstition and many people would

place slippers in walls and under floors
to ward off evil spirits and witchcraft.

Now the story of the sword and slippers really
fascinates me, apparently it was used in

a duel outside of ye olde kings head and
possibly a murder was committed with the sword

now the person who used
the sword then buried it to

hide the evidence but
also buried slippers with it.

People back then were very superstitious
and they buried slippers under

floors and in walls to ward off any
evil spirits, any negative entities.

Is it possible that this person was experiencing
some kind of paranormal activity and was

worried that the person who he had possibly murdered
with the sword was coming back to haunt him?

It's truly fascinating and it really speaks
a lot about the history of the location,

were the residents here experiencing
paranormal activity all of those years ago?

The hauntings of ye olde kings head
are no secret and people from all over the

world have visited the location in hope of
witnessing one of it's ghostly occupants.

Fully armoured Roman
soldiers have been seen in both

the basement and the
middle floor function room.

A tall dark figure has been witnessed in
room 1 and has even caused hotel guests

to pack up and leave in the middle
of the night due to being so frightened.

Children have been heard playing
on the top floor corridor and the

owner believes he has captured
the apparition of a child on camera.

One of the most active areas of
ye olde kings head is the back of the

middle floor function room which once
served as a brothel during the 1700's.

The paranormal activity is extremely high in
this area and it is believed that the ladies of

the night who once worked here all those years
ago, robbed and even poisoned their customers.

Disembodied voices and shuffling sounds
have been heard here and during our last

investigation of ye olde kings head back in
2017, we captured a class a evp in this area.

Our first lockdown in Chester was
about to begin at the famous ye olde

kings head, a location we had
previously investigated back in 2017.

For part of this lockdown we
were joined by Paul rowland

who would be using his custom
designed camera and evp device

and would join me in the area that
used to be a brothel during the 1700's.

Charlie would investigate the
main staircase where children

are often heard as well as
man known as 'mr Richardson'.

Charlie would use a Mel meter to detect
any sudden changes in the electro magnetic

field as well as a touch activated
ball to interact with any spirit children.

Becki, rox and Emma would
investigate the upstairs bedrooms

and would attempt and experiment
known as the 'esthes method'

which would see Emma blindfolded, she
would also wear noise cancelling headphones

as she uses the sb7 spirit box to
listen for any possible spirit voices

that may respond to
becki and rox's questions.

We also set up 6 locked off
cameras which would monitor the key

areas of the location. Camera
1 covered the top floor corridor.

Camera 2 was placed in
room 5. Camera 3 covered

room 4 where the sword
was found back in the 1930's.

Camera 4 was set up in the old brothel
section with camera 5 covering the main

function room where full bodied apparitions
were captured on camera a few years back

and finally camera 6 was
in the main downstairs bar.

It was time to investigate
ye olde kings head.

Ok so me and Paul are down here in the old
brothel section and Paul has brought with him

quite a large set up, Paul do you wanna just
explain what is that you've brought with ya.

Well closest to US on the table,
this is equipment that we use

all the time, it's recording and
live playback of evp equipment.

This allows US to use erm... a
specialised microphone element at

the front and we do short burst
recordings, only about a minute

and then play back almost
instantaneously so as we can

listen in and see if there's
anyone in spirit around US.

That's perfect erm...
and obviously you've

brought your camera
with you over there as well.

Erm... now I know you have
a very, very special camera

so just explain roughly
what thats going to be doing.

Well my camera is a digital slr
camera erm... that I can trigger remotely.

I've also got a, what I call a digital
light system on top of the camera

and thats a pulse modulated light and
that is also ultra Violet and blue light

and ultra Violet is the most strongest colour
of light that's just about visible to our

eyes, so the technique would be a 3 or 4 second
exposure photograph to allow enough light

to be absorbed into the
camera, during that time that's

when I've captured on
occasion spirits on photographs.

caught some very, very interesting

figures just over through that
room using that camera didn't you?

pointing towards the area behind
the bar and the kitchen doors

because we frequently see
movement of that and activity

while we're doing call outs
here or sitting round the table.

while we do our call outs from here.

we've had activity previously
when we were here in 2017.

do is one little quick

test recording to make
sure we're all tuned in.

as I'm not wasting my time

and doing recordings if
everything isn't working properly.

the sword was found under the floor boards

and we're going to attempt to communicate
with any of the resident ghosts here,

using the esthes method.

staircase now, Paul and Dan

are in the brothel and
the girls are up in room 5.

I'm gonna try and interact with the
children to see if we can get anything, I've

a Mel meter here in my hand, if I get
any readings I'll show you on the camera

and I also have a touch activated
ball behind me and if that goes

off then at least we'll know that
the children are here with US.

Just 15 minutes into our
investigation, our locked off

camera in room 4 picks up the
very clear sound of footsteps.

We have no idea what could
cause this as the only people upstairs

are the girls in room 5 and none
of them can be heard from room 4

and as you can see,
none of them are moving.

Our camera on the corridor
also shows nobody is upstairs,

listen carefully as these
footsteps are heard in room 4.

That was like a man's voice that said no.

This is a very interesting
moment. For 15 minutes Emma

had received no voices at
all through the sb7 spirit box

but within 30 seconds of
footsteps being captured in

room 4, she starts hearing
both a man and woman's voices.

Very shortly you will also see
the moment Paul and I hear

the footsteps in room 4 and
we are on the floor below.

capturing the sound of footsteps in

room 4, a wave of activity starts
to occur throughout the location

and because we are all
in separate areas, we do

not realise the magnitude
of what is happening.

We are less than half an hour into
our investigation and to receive this

amount of activity in such a short
period of time is extremely rare.

paranormal events start to unfold.

movement from somewhere upstairs but

which means the banging
sound may have been

coming from room 6
which is behind Emma.

This also used to be part of the old brothel.

there? Remember, that it is strongly rumoured
that the ladies who once worked there

used to poison men
and Rob them, could this

possibly be the spirit
of one of their victims?

This is an incredible moment and is very
strong evidence as the man's voice comes

through and answers becki directly, telling
her that there are 3 of them in the room

after previously saying 'watching you'.
Remember, there is no way Emma can

possibly hear what becki or rox are
saying and she cannot see anything.

She can only hear what is coming
through the white noise which

is so loud you can actually
hear it on the cameras audio.

I join Emma upstairs as we head

into room 4 unaware of the footsteps
captured on the locked off camera.

which is where the sword was uncovered

during a renovation of the building
during in the 1930's I think it was.

uncovered right where the bed now is.

This is truly a remarkable moment as
seconds after something moves by our locked

off camera the words 'it's Veronica'
come through the paranormal puck device

but prepare to be absolutely amazed as what
we didn't realise until reviewing the footage

is that Emma has just captured one of the
best pieces of evidence we have ever had

on her digital voice recorder. Listen
carefully just a second before the word

'Veronica' comes through the paranormal
puck, Emma captures a class a evp

that completely backs up what
comes through the puck, this

is absolutely incredible and
for US, this is solid evidence.

which uses an infrared laser grid to

track movement and is believed to

pod which measures

sudden temperature
changes of 5 degrees or more.

but then told US it felt cold right
where the figure was captured and just

seconds later the temperature pod
measures a sudden drop in temperature.

Over the next few
hours we receive no more

evidence, the location
seemed to go completely quiet

but what we had witnessed was incredible.

it's been a really crazy investigation
now our return here has been
