[Episode 10]

You heard it too, right?

She's using you.

You haven't experienced it enough.

That's how the world is.

People don't approach guys like us with pure motives like that.

You shouldn't have trusted someone just because she was good to you.

What are guys like us?

We have a lot and are very blessed.

We have the privilege of doing almost everything we want.

We're still just sales people.

Father.

The level of the people you've devoted your life to amount to nothing but this.

See for yourself.

[Terminated for bribery.]

[Terminated for bribery.]

Arrogant beings who don't care about others whatsoever.

[Gangsu Group Files]

[Gangsu Scholarship, Prosecutor Lobby List...]

[Gangsu Group Fake Name Accounts]

[Overseas Properties]

[Prosecutors Lobby List, National Tax Administration Lobby]

In order to be loyal to people like that, you don't know what I've had to do..

Father, you can't even imagine.

Don't ignore what your brother said about Joon.

Why are you being like this too?

I don't care what he says.

It matters once your brother makes an issue out of it.

Your brother thinks Joon has a grudge against the company.

He's uncomfortable seeing her next to you.

Why does that matter? I like Joon.

You don't know how scary your brother is.

Once he sets his sights on something, he doesn't stop at anything.

What do you mean by that?

The person who leaked the airplane disturbance video was your brother.

This is a warning to you from him.

He's saying he won't stay put if you continue to try something.

So, as I thought...

my brother wants to get rid of me.

That's how it is, right?

Hey, why are you just telling me now?

Hey, would you be able to say it so easily?

Must've been hard on your own.

Keeping it all to yourself.

I enjoyed the meal.

Yeah, me too.

By the way, Joon...

I'm a little tired.

I'm going to head in now.

Okay. Go rest.

[My Daughter]

Yes?

It is unusual for you to call me.

Hello? Joon.

Yes, Mom.

Are you doing well?

Mom's always the same.

Is anything going on with you?

No, what could be going on?

I'll drop by the day after tomorrow or so.

I made the lettuce kimchi that you like.

Oh, Mom...

It was Dad who liked the lettuce kimchi.

Oh, was it?

Mom.

What kind of person was Dad?

What is it? Did something happen?

No. I'm just asking.

Why? What is it, Joon?

My dad...

Did he really accept bribes?

And then get fired from Gangsu Group?

What are you talking about?

Who said that? Where did you hear such a thing?

What do I do?

I'm so upset I could die, Mom.

Ah, I feel bad for her.

Driver Kwon told me that the rooftop apartment is very shabby.

She cleans for a living, so obviously her home must be bad.

Yes, but she helped our Hyuk pull himself together.

Are you going to leave her as a cleaning employee like that?

What do you want me to do?

People are watching, so shouldn't you match their status?

She did come into my office and voice all her opinions.

She was no average girl.

She turned Hyuk into a human being.

She seemed to be a person of substance.

You're right, Father.

She definitely has substance.

Father, you know Baek Sung Ki?

Baek Sung Ki? Who's that?

A manager in Strategic Planning who developed the red chili paste.

Mother asked me to look into her, so I did.

Baek Joon is Baek Sung Ki's daughter.

Really? She's the daughter of...

Oh my goodness. That's so great.

There's nothing more to see then.

Having the founder's daughter as our daughter-in-law is so great!

Isn't that right, Honey?

That punk! Of all the girls he met...

- What? - Forget it!

Pyunggang or whatever it is, don't ever bring it up again!

Understand?

Oh my, oh my. What's wrong with your father?

He's the best of the best if he's the founder of the red chili paste.

The red chili paste gave us wings when we were going through hardships.

Monk Chung Woong did say she was destined to be with him.

It was true, after all.

Mother, please stop going to see that monk.

Baek Joon isn't going to save Hyuk. She'll eat him alive.

Eat... eat him alive?

What are you talking about?

Taking the day off.

In a deep sleep. Do not knock.

Do not wake me up.

Has Hyuk been seeing her, knowing she was Baek Sung Ki's daughter?

I don't think he knew, at first.

That useless kid. Are there no other women?

He has to hang around the daughter of a man who betrayed his father?

Is there anything else I need to know?

Please tell me if there is.

There's nothing you need to know.

Try to convince Hyuk.

Tell him break up with her right away.

If he ignores me again, then this time...

tell him he won't be safe.

All right?

Yes, I understand.

Joon's mom?

Deputy Manager Kim can do this part.

Oh, there he is.

What happened to Joon's dad, I can accept that.

He was lacking and let it happen.

But, why... why would you go after my Joon too?

I know about everything you people did to my husband.

How dare you bring up bribery in front of my daughter?

Bribery or whatever it is, if you hurt my Joon ever again...

I really won't let it go this time, Director Seol.

If you don't want to make trouble for yourself with the Gangsu chicken incident

don't bother my Joon ever again.

What happened back then...

shouldn't we make things right now?

Do you think you have the right to say that?

Just accept this.

Don't cause a problem out of this issue anymore, all right?

The CEO is watching over you.

You'd better watch yourself, punk.

Gosh.

Geez.

Ah, seriously.

We did as you ordered.

What are you doing?

Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning.

Cleaning?

Oh, I was the one cleaning.

Hyuk was asking if he could help out.

So, I said what could you do to help and decided to sit and rest my knees.

Hey, why was Joon's mother in Director Seol's office?

I'll tell you later, Jae Hoon.

Hey.

I visited the CEO this morning because he called for me.

He wants you to end things with Joon.

I think your brother told him who Joon's father was.

I told you not to ignore your brother's warning.

I bought some groceries to make you side dishes.

Your dad isn't that kind of person.

What do you mean bribery? That's really just nonsense.

If he was that shrewd to get money for himself

he would never have died like that.

So, Joon... trust your dad.

Your dad would never be that kind of person.

I'll leave the food here.

Put it in the fridge so it doesn't go bad.

Later when you feel better, I'll come back.

Mom.

Yes, I know.

I know, but it's not true.

There's no better man in the world than your dad.

That, I can guarantee.

What is it?

You really are disciplined.

How many years has it been without missing a day?

I think about 11 years.

11 years?

Then is that since that incident?

What do you want?

I'm the one who likes Joon.

I won't stand for it if you threaten her in such a disgraceful manner ever again.

What?

Also, stop running off to our dad to tattle on me.

Aren't you too old to do things like that?

You little punk.

I'm telling you not to do it again.

I'll be going now.

Why are you here again?

I thought about it a lot and your words don't make any sense.

You're hiding something from me, aren't you?

There's nothing else.

You said my father took bribes.

If that's all that you can tell me, then what's the part you can't tell me?

I told you there's nothing else.

There is. There is something.

Please tell me the truth, President. Please.

President Jang. President. President.

President Jang, please tell me.

- President Jang! - Wait.

Wait. I'm sorry but you should go.

I know you feel miserable too, so please just tell me!

I'm not going to move from this spot until you tell me the truth!

President Jang! President Jang!

Goodness, what are you doing? Look at the time.

Sorry, it's not that I didn't come in.

I did come in to work, but I had urgent business.

You're an intern who doesn't do his job and is never at his desk.

[President Jang] You don't listen.

Hold on.

It's an important call. One moment.

Yes, President Jang.

Wow, the world's become a better place.

You can take calls even when your boss is talking to you.

What? Joon?

All right, I'll be right there. Okay.

Where do you think you're going?

President Jang needs me urgently. I have to go.

I'll be back soon. Thank you.

Wait...

Third Generation's work life is so free.

At this point, isn't this a revolt?

I'm worried she might pass out, at this rate.

Please take her and go.

- I'll go. - No, I will.

Joon...

doesn't know that you know about this yet.

How do you think she'll feel if you go around getting involved in this?

Well...

Maybe she won't like it very much.

So, I'll go. You stay here.

What are you doing here?

You don't need to know.

No one will tell you the truth just because you do this.

You never know.

If I hold out long enough, someone might tell me.

Just to tell one person the truth, many others may suffer.

Have you thought about that?

It's not that they can't tell you the truth because they're bad.

It's because they have no power.

So what?

They cover and they hide it.

Should I let it go even if someone had to be a sacrificial lamb?

I should pretend not to know even though that was my dad?

Could you do that?

Could you do it if it were your father?

Father.

So, come in and fight properly.

You can't win anything in this state.

If you live so recklessly, you won't be left with anything.

The truth.

I'll have the truth.

That will be a source of strength for me.

Do whatever you want.

This is on sale. Buy one, get one free.

Would you like to drink this?

What's this?

- I bought one and got one... - Excuse me.

You must be mistaken about something.

I don't like drinking so much that I need to drink this.

That day...

Yes, I know I made a mistake that night.

But, please don't treat me like I'm a drunk.

Who said I was?

There was a buy one, get one free. I was just giving you the extra.

Oh my.

I refuse to accept your buy one get one.

All right?

Well, go ahead then.

Gosh, how ridiculous. What kind of person does that?

What is this?

Ah, seriously.

Excuse me!

What do I do?

Gosh, really....

Oh, gosh.

Hello, Jae Hoon.

Hold on to me.

What?

Oh, okay.

Wait a minute.

One moment.

Here you go.

Thank... thank you.

Yes.

- By any chance... - Yes, I do have time.

No, I need Joon's mom's number.

What?

[Subcontractor Research] What is this?

What I heard in front of Director Seol's office bothered me.

You know the thing about Joon's father and the bribery?

So, I did some research on all the subcontractor factories at the time.

Everyone had good memories of Manager Baek Sung Ki.

The thing that's even stranger is...

everyone shuts their mouth whenever we bring up bribery.

They stop talking?

They won't even talk about whether they gave or received bribes at all.

What does that mean?

What else?

It means they're being pressured to stay silent.

Suppose Joon's father really took bribes.

They would be cursing him out, not staying quiet about it.

There's something there.

Whatever it is, it's something big.

How unusual for that guy to be here this late.

I guess he felt sorry.

Hey, get me some coffee...

I don't think it was on purpose, so why is it so annoying?

Oh, President... President!

President Jang!

Give it a rest now and go home.

It's cold out.

President... President Jang!

I'll come again tomorrow.

I'll see you again tomorrow!

Mom.

Why are you here again?

Is something going on?

Are you crazy?

Why did you go to Seman Factory?

You told me to trust Dad, that he's innocent.

That's why I need to know the truth.

I need to know what happened when he left the company.

We can believe your dad. That is enough.

That might be enough for you, Mom, but not for me.

Your dad passed away and it's all in the past.

- What's the point in exposing it now? - Mom.

You don't know how I've lived all this time, do you?

You don't know what I was thinking working only part-time jobs.

I've lost my way.

If I can't figure this out...

then I can't move forward, Mom.

Am I supposed to...

watch you get hurt too?

I'm trying to prove Dad's innocence. Why would I get hurt?

Even after your dad left the company, Gangsu Group harassed him so much.

I know.

I know and that's why I have to do this.

There's no need to be scared. I have nothing to lose.

Please...

Please, let's live our lives and have nothing to do with Gangsu Group.

Find a proper job now.

Don't just work part-time jobs.

I will do that.

Only after I set things right with Dad's incident.

So, Mom...

don't stop me until I do.

Was it you? Did you call my mom?

Yes.

Why?

To stop you from doing stupid things.

What's it to you if I do something stupid or not?

What about you? Why did you do it?

Why did you care if I cleaned up after Hyuk or not?

What was it to you that you were always lecturing me about it?

- Why? - Because...

I thought you were pathetic.

That's why I'm doing it too. I think you're acting pathetically.

Yeah, suppose you do find out the truth.

What do you think you can do going up against Gangsu Group?

You're not thinking Hyuk will take your side and fix things, are you?

Why would you bring up Hyuk?

Don't expect anything.

In the end, Hyuk is a member of Gangsu Group.

Who said he's not?

You'll end up hurt in the end, you dummy.

How would you know about that?

Your father... wasn't the only person to go through this kind of thing.

So, Joon...

please stop.

This could be your last chance.

Your last chance to free yourself of the guilt.

President Jang, I believe you must have been living with guilt for a long time.

Am I wrong?

Why are you doing this to me?

Don't you know that you'll bring trouble on yourself if I start talking?

I want to walk the same path as you.

Does that mean you can protect me this time?

No.

I cannot protect you.

Paying for what we did wrong will be our own burden to carry.

I've laid everything out, but the choice is yours to make.

This is what I've chosen.

Here you go. Thank you.

Can you tell me?

Tell me what happened to Manager Baek Sung Ki back then.

What happened with Gangsu chicken?

What is this wrong you have to pay for?

Why is President Jang so miserable?

I need to know. Please tell me.

You may need to make a choice between two things.

Once I start to talk, your father and Joon...

You could lose one of the two forever.

Is that okay with you?

Hyuk.

You're late.

I guess being an intern is hard.

You've become gaunt in one day.

Are you okay?

You said you were taking today off.

Did you rest well?

Of course.

I got a lot of rest.

Joon.

Am I still...

your friend?

Of course.

You and I are friends.

That's all.

Just friendship.

Then, can we hug as friends?

Huh?

Hey.

What's up with you suddenly?

Something happened to you today, didn't it?

Yes, well...

What is it? What happened?

Just something.

I realized it today.

Why she had been keeping a boundary between us.

Don't get the wrong idea.

This is a friendship hug.

Also...

this...

is a friendship pat.

Driver Kwon, I think we should just leave now.

Yes, Madam.

Joon.

Must you do this?

If I can't resolve what happen to Dad...

I can't start anything else.

I'll get going now.

Hello.

Oh, you're here early.

Hello, President Jang.

I'll be waiting here today too.

Until you tell me everything, I'll continue waiting.

I'll be waiting!

Don't back down.

Don't back down, Baek Joon.

Hyuk!

What are you... Hyuk!

I came to talk about Joon's father, President Jang.

Don't you get involved too.

I have nothing more to say, so take her and leave.

If you're worried about Gangsu Group, trust me and talk to us.

I will take measures to make sure no harm comes your way.

Aren't you fooling around too much just because you're Byun Gang Su's son?

The world is not as simple as you think.

Do I look like I'm fooling around?

Don't get involved in that young lady's business.

It won't help you to get mixed up.

Joon's father's business is also my business.

It's not just her father's business. It's your father's business too.

That's why I can't say anything more.

Then I really need to know the truth now.

I said I can't tell you.

President.

You know very well how your beef rice bowl managed to survive.

I pushed it through by going against my father's will.

I am different from my father.

If something wrong happened, it needs to be set right now.

Give me the chance to do that, President.

This could be your last chance.

Your last chance to free yourself of the guilt.

Manager Baek Sung Ki was chased out.

He wanted to get rid of the practice of getting bribes from subcontractors.

So, he brought up the issue formally in the company.

It was going to be brought up for public discussion.

The higher-ups put a stop to it.

The higher-ups?

If this issue had been to the surface, many people would have gotten hurt.

The company cared more about this getting out than stopping the practice.

It was decided that Baek Sung Ki could be sacrificed.

It was judged that it would be less of a loss.

Then what?

They say if you stand out, you're asking for trouble.

One day, a very high up man from Gangsu Foods came by.

He wanted me to testify that...

I was regularly bribing Manager Baek.

If I didn't do it...

they would terminate our contract.

I stabbed Manager Baek Sung Ki in the back with a knife just like that.

Just to survive on my own.

He never ever took bribes.

In fact, every time our contract was up...

he told Gangsu that they couldn't betray factories that worked with them.

He fought with the bosses to protect us.

I...

I...

I only saved myself.

I'm sorry.

I'm really sorry.

I... am ashamed to look at you.

[Baek Sung Ki]

[Baek Sung Ki]

Manager Baek ended up packing his things and leaving.

He was falsely accused of taking bribes.

Who ordered all of that?

Was it my father?

Are you done talking?

Yes.

Did you hear everything you wanted?

Yes.

How did you know?

No...

How long have you known about my father?

The same day you found out.

From your older brother?

Yes.

Then...

you must've heard him say that I was manipulating you too.

Yes.

Then why didn't you do anything?

What if I really was trying to manipulate you?

I knew you weren't.

And even if you really had those feelings

I couldn't do anything about it.

All of this happened because of my father.

My friend.

Mon ami.

My friend.

Out of friendship...

can I hug you just once?

Thank you.

My dad's bribery accusation...

you exposed the truth.

Joon, do you know what though?

This is only the beginning.

- Hey. - Are you insane?

You should stop her. Why are you doing this too?

Why do I have to stop her?

Is it wrong to help Joon hear what she wants?

Can't you see how things are playing out?

Look at your brother's reaction when Joon's father's name came up.

Even the CEO is telling you to end things with Joon.

That's the thing. It's very strange.

They must scared of something.

What will you do if they are?

- I'll expose it. - You should cover it up.

Jae Hoon.

What's your dream?

Why are you suddenly asking about my dream?

Then I'll ask you again.

What do you want to do at this company?

Do you like this company? Are you happy working at Gangsu Group?

Is anyone happy at work?

Can't people be happy?

Then tell me.

How does Gangsu Group need to change in order for you to be happy?

Why? Are you going to change it by singing and dancing?

You must think that you got the cleaners hired all on your own.

Don't be delusional.

It only happened because you're CEO Byun Gang Su's son.

That's what I'm saying.

That's why I'm thinking about what else I can change while I'm here as his son.

What?

If things change and get better, it will naturally prove my father wrong.

What are you thinking?

I'm imagining my father admitting he's wrong.

Wouldn't you like to see that just once?

I really want to see it.

You did one side before.

Hurry up and call them.

No, no. Do it quickly.

Over here. Come quickly.

Because we're scared of the higher-ups.

If our performance suffers, we don't get promoted.

Then we'll be out of the company before you know it.

There's no such thing as sharing in this industry.

Don't you know about survival of the fittest?

Eat or be eaten.

Even if you're loyal to a company, you're expendable and can be tossed out.

That's the life of any office employee.

What are planning to do now?

[Resume]

Is my contact info correct?

Yes, my number.

What are you planning to use this for anyway?

It's not for anything bad, right?

I feel a little nervous.

Don't feel nervous. I'll use it for something good.

Did you hear from Jae Hoon?

- Yes, Father. - So?

Did you end things with Baek Joon?

Before that, I'm curious about something.

Why did you frame an innocent person and kick him out?

Who said Baek Sung Ki did nothing wring?

What did he do wrong?

He wielded a knife against the company with his clumsy aspirations.

The company is not driven by justice.

The company has to profit.

You need people in order to make money.

You can't turn the company inside out because of one person, Baek Sung Ki.

So, you chose money over a person then.

Sometimes, you need to sacrifice something small for a greater cause.

For whom?

For the entire company.

It wasn't for you, Father?

The company is me.

I see.

Oh yeah, about the reward you mentioned last time.

Reward?

You're not going to go back on your word now, are you?

You brought it up when you got that Presidential Commendation.

I'm not going back on my word. Tell me what you want.

Do you need a house, or should I buy you a car?

They were the hidden workers behind that commendation.

Hire them into the management team as experienced employees.

Is that all?

Yes, that's all.

I'll assume that you will hire them, and I'll leave now.

Why aren't you answering me?

So, did you end things with her?

Gosh, Joon and I are friends.

She's my friend, mon ami.

My friend... Sir.

Don't worry too much, Father.

It seems Hyuk has fallen for this girl and crossed a line he shouldn't have.

What do you mean by that?

Get rid Hyuk before he causes more trouble for the company.

[Resume]

Here is your delicious Americano.

Thank you.

Yum, you're even good at making coffee.

It's better than a cafe.

You had a day off today. Did you go anywhere?

You know Kwon Jae Hoon?

What about Jae Hoon?

Does he have a girlfriend?

I'm not sure.

Not that I know of. Why?

Actually, last night...

the heel of my shoe was stuck in a manhole cover and I was struggling.

He showed up out of nowhere and pulled it out with his own hands.

Jae Hoon?

What's with him?

He's not the type to do that for a girl.

Right?

I didn't think he was that considerate.

Maybe that's why, but I felt very odd after.

Last time, he suddenly gave me some rice porridge.

Rice porridge?

Jae Hoon gave it to you?

Is it possible that... he likes me?

What do you think, Joon?

You've known him a long time, so you'd know.

How do you feel?

Aren't your feelings more important?

Huh? Well, I...

Why are you asking me so directly? I'm so taken aback.

Honestly, I...

Jae Hoon.

Did Hyuk come up here, by any chance?

Hyuk didn't come up.

He's not picking up his phone. Where is he?

What do I do?

Do you think he heard everything?

He's so dense. I doubt he heard a thing.

Ah...

Hello.

Excuse me.

Do you want to eat this?

What?

Oh, my friend. You're home?

You should change before bed no matter how tired you are.

You could catch a cold.

Don't talk to me.

Okay.

[G Chicken Files]

Hey, you.

How serious were you?

About what?

What you said to me earlier today.

Why? Are you curious?

Then look forward to tomorrow morning.

You'll be really shocked.

I'll be starting today in the Strategic Planning team.

My name is Kim Ki Sub.

Let's work well together.

Bravo.

Did you put Hyuk up to it?

What? Did something happen?

You don't know?

So, Hyuk did that by himself?

What did Hyuk do?

Tell me so I understand.

The Strategic Planning team has been turned upside down.

What?

Joon!

Mister Kim?

Hyuk brought him into our team.

He said he'd change the company or something.

You must know what Hyuk is thinking.

I don't know either.

He probably doesn't know what he's doing.

I am Byun Hyuk.

Like my name, I will revolutionize everything.

I will take one step closer to you, Joon.
