Episode 18

Duke Han's Mansion

My Lord,

she looks just like

a girl of noble birth.

Tianniu,

your brother has recovered

and is now at my great-aunt's place.

I'll ask someone

to send you to him

okay?

My Lord, I'm all yours.

Good girl.

After the wedding,

I'll get the kids back from the Shen's Mansion.

I'm sure Miss Qin

will take care of the kids for you.

She is a nice lady

whom we can trust with the kids.

Jinzi,

take her to have some food.

Yes, My Lord.

Let's go.

Let's go.

My Lord,

everyone is talking about you

and His Highness.

Storytellers at teahouses

start to tell the story about your brave act

of saving villagers at the risk of your own life,

describing you two as a legend.

They're really passionate about their job,

aren't they?

I don't feel good about it.

Am I putting myself out there too much?

I'm afraid it's not good for His Majesty's health.

I'd think of some way

to cause trouble

for the peace of His Majesty's mind.

My Lord,

here is a letter from Miss Wang.

My Lord.

Li's Glorious Pavilion

We'd also have this one and this one.

And this one.

That would be enough.

Let's not waste food.

Okay, that's all.

Okay, the food will be served in a moment.

The room looks familiar to me.

When you first came to the capital,

my parents wanted to meet you.

So, while you were having wine with my brother

in this very room,

we were peeking in from the next room.

I remember now!

I'd rather not get into it.

Here is the wine.

Is this rice wine?

This is fruit wine.

It's for you two.

I see.

Please enjoy it.

I'll leave you alone.

Back then,

my father planned to promise me to you.

It's a shame that I didn't realize

how nice it would be to have you as my husband.

But I'm getting married.

Perhaps my wife

will give me a baby soon.

I know perfectly well

why you marry Miss Qin.

You want to save her reputation.

You are such a nice person.

Why didn't I realize it before?

I'm not as good

as you thought.

I just remembered an errand I forgot to run.

A hero never asks anything in return.

Thank you for the drink.

I gotta go.

Wait a minute. Wait a minute.

Are you leaving

without having a single cup of wine?

Alright, I'll have a cup of wine then.

Is that good enough for you?

At least

three cups of wine.

Is that good enough for you?

Miss Wang,

you're very attractive.

There are so many good guys

out there for you.

I'd be glad to attend your wedding ceremony.

I gotta go now.

Welcome.

Which room is Lord Han in?

Lord Han?

I' m not sure.

I'll ask around.

Young master? Young master?

It turns out he really can't have rice wine.

I'm so clever!

A little rice wine just does it.

Now you're mine.

Wang Xiyuan, what are you doing?

Why,

why are you here?

Shiyi?

Get me some refreshing drink.

Now!

Shiyi?

Shiyi?

Shiyi?

Shiyi?

I'm glad I arrived just in time.

Li's Glorious Pavilion

Cheers!

Let me do it. Let me do it.

Xiyuan,

Shiyi hasn't recovered yet.

How can you take Shiyi out drinking?

I'm sorry.

I shouldn't let him have too much wine.

Wang Xiyuan,

what exactly do you want?

I...

I like him.

I...

I want to make it a done deal.

What?

Where did you learn that?

In your novels.

You...

Shiyi, you're awake!

My Lord, you're awake!

How do you feel? Are you alright?

Wang Xiyuan,

since nothing has happened,

I'm just gonna let it go.

I'm getting married in a few days.

We're not supposed to see each other anymore.

Xiyuan, let's go.

Let's go.

My Lord!

Judging by her reaction,

it seems she hasn't found the truth yet.

Duke Han's Mansion

My Lord,

here is the wedding plan.

Do you need anything else?

Ask the wedding planners

to be lavish with money.

Let it be as extravagant as possible.

I want my wedding

to be a sensational event.

My Lord,

I heard the eldest son of the richest family in Sichuan

is getting married on the same day.

The Li family in Sichuan?

You mean the family of Li's Glorious Pavilion?

That's right.

The eldest son of the Li family.

I met him once.

He is in charge of most of the family business.

He is more of an intellectual

than a common businessman.

The Li family enjoys good reputation

in the capital.

For the wedding of the eldest son

in the family,

they're gonna go big.

I don't want to be dwarfed by him.

I see.

I'll tell them

to spend lavishly on the wedding.

It would put His Majesty's mind at rest.

His Majesty doesn't feel well these days.

My acting normally

will only make him feel worse.

Why are they all red?

Wedding gowns are supposed to be red.

I'd have it embroidered with landscape pattern.

My Lord, the patterns for wedding gowns

are mostly dragons, phoenix, flowers and mandarin ducks.

Look at these two gowns.

This one is for the groom.

This one is for the bride.

Thank you so much

for coming today.

You're excused.

Thank you, My Lord.

Jinzi,

take good care of her.

Understood.

Please follow me.

Who is there?

Your Highness,

what brings you here?

No, it's Li Chengye.

Stay with the bride.

Darling,

my best friends and former classmates

are waiting for me in the hall.

I need to drink with them.

It's been a long day.

Have a good rest. See you later.

Cheers!

My dear fellows,

sorry for being late.

I'll drink it up.

Come on, fill it up.

That's good.

I thought you'd never come out of

the nuptial chamber tonight.

Come on.

My Lord, have a drink with us.

I'm coming. I'm coming.

Thank you for what you've done for me.

Thank you for coming today.

Lord Han was attacked

on his way to meet the bride.

Now he seems to be pretty over it.

I'm not surprised he comes from a long line of generals.

Actually, I'm most worried about Lord Han.

He's gonna get drunk tonight.

Fill it up.

Take it easy with the wine.

Check this out, guys.

Stop it. You shouldn't drink that much.

I'm a heavy drinker.

It's my wedding day.

I can drink as much as I want.

What if you got drunk?

Your bride is waiting for you.

Wang Er,

are you setting eyes on my bride?

It's time to drink.

Cousin.

Cousin.

Shiyi,

Today is your big day.

Fill it up.

Let's have another drink.

Your Highness,

I can hold my liquor.

Drinking too much wine is bad for your health.

It's my wedding day.

As the most infamous playboy in the capital,

it's only natural that I show complacency.

The wine is mixed with sugar water.

It's not gonna get me drunk.

Come on.

A toast to you.

Take care, My Lord.

My Lord.

This way.

Be careful.

Have a seat.

Take care.

My Lord,

please wipe your face with it.

Have some water.

Here,

have some water.

My Lord, are you feeling better?

My Lord, we were freaked out.

Did you have a lot of wine?

I'm alright.

Send word to Miss Qin

that I'm drunk

and gonna rest in my study,

and that I'm sorry.

Understood, My Lord.

Your Highness,

Lord Han is drunk and sleeping in the study.

Please excuse me.

Your Highness,

a toast to you.

It was a nice try.

I suppose

Your Highness is behind that attack.

Han Shiyi works for me.

I don't see why you make that point.

The purpose of the assassins

was to make a mess instead of hurting someone.

Gongwei Army arrived just in time.

Perhaps Qi Tai is the one who takes order from Your Highness.

I'm wondering

what your purpose is.

You're very smart.

But you should know that I won't explain it to you.

I don't see the point of asking.

It must be a deliberate decision.

Your Highness, I'm not here for interrogation.

I'm asking you

not to hurt Han Shiyi's feelings.

You may rest assured.

I'll never hurt Han Shiyi.

My Lady,

a message came

that Lord Han got drunk

and is gonna rest in the study tonight.

Please have an early night.

What are you doing here?

My Lord, wake up!

There is a big problem.

What happened?

The bride...

It turns out the bride is not Miss Qin.

What?

Where is Miss Qin?

Come on, tell us.

I've no idea.

Miss Qin hasn't made it to Duke Han's Mansion at all.

You're lying.

I don't have to lie to you.

My Lord!

What's going on here?

What are you doing here?

Where is Qin Wanning?

I've no idea.

I was kidnapped.

I woke up and found myself in your mansion.

We've performed wedding ceremony.

What kidnapping? Where is Qin Wanning?

I really don't know.

I want you to be honest with me.

Did you do anything to hurt Qin Wanning?

Alright, alright, I'll tell you everything about it.

I didn't see Qin Wanning.

It was Miss Bai who sat in the sedan chair.

I think her name is Bai Yueru.

She is at an inn.

She'll be sent back to her family tomorrow.

Did you hire the assassins?

Of course not.

I bribed the servants of the Qin family,

asking them

to stop by the inn.

It was to swap the bride. There is no need to hire assassins for that.

If it is true

that Miss Bai was sitting in the sedan chair,

the bearers may have carried the wrong sedan chair

when they were attacked on the street.

That way,

Miss Qin may be carried to the Li's Mansion.

My Lord, please save Miss Qin!

Alright, on your feet.

Bad news! Bad news!

Bad news, My Lord.

-Bad news! -What is all the shouting about?

What bad news?

Are you cursing me?

My Lord, a message came from the Li's Mansion

that Miss Qin,

the one you should marry,

committed suicide in the nuptial chamber

by hitting her head against the corner of the table.

She is dying.

Miss Qin!

It's all your fault.

Well,

she doesn't have to kill herself

even if she is married to Mr. Li.

It's not my fault.

Do you think everyone in the capital

is as capricious as you are?

My Lord,

are you mad at me?

All I want is to get married with you.

Please don't get mad at me.

Stay away from me.

It's all your fault.

You made a tragedy

out of a joyful wedding.

What are people gonna say

about me?

How can I explain myself?

My Lord, what should we do?

The Li family is waiting for our response.

It seems Wang Xiyuan was telling the truth.

She has nothing to do with the assassins.

It turns out their purpose was to

switch the bride during the crisis

and have Bai Yueru delivered to my mansion.

However, Wang Xiyuan spoiled it all.

Who is behind this?

What is his purpose?

The Bai family is a successful silk fabrics dealer in the capital.

Miss Bai and Mr. Li

were engaged one year ago.

Is the Bai family a victim

or a conspirator?

The study

looks nice.

Your Highness,

do you have anything to do

with the attack on the street?

So,

you were behind the swap

of the brides?

That's right.

Why?

Because Qin Wanning might get suspicious

as time goes by.

Besides, Miss Bai's father is on my side.

That's why I made this arrangement.

Does Miss Bai know that I'm...

Of course not.

It's a risk

I'll never take.

I've asked her

to stay away from you.

Your Highness,

it would be nice

if you have told me about it.

I don't want to worry you.

That's why I arranged it all by myself.

From now on, I'll let you know

about every single decision I make, okay?

Your Highness,

it was not Bai Yueru

who walked down the aisle with me.

What?

Then who is it?

It's Wang Xiyuan.

How come?

She bribed her way to my wedding

by paying a servant of the Qin family

to switch the bribe for the second time.

She's living in my new house.

I don't think she's gonna leave easily.

She is such a troublemaker.

She is only a capricious young lady.

I'll think of some way

to send her back.

I just heard

Qin Wanning tried to commit suicide.

It would be my fault

if anything happens to her.

How come it is your fault?

Mr. Li is the eldest son of the richest family in Sichuan.

Isn't it good enough for her?

So,

do you want her to stay in this fake marriage with you?

It sounds like the Li family is also on your side.

That's right.

The family background is not the most important thing.

Is Li Chengxuan a good person?

Bad people don't get to

work for me.

Your Highness,

I'm afraid you're overconfident.

What do you mean?

Are you saying I'm not a good person?

I've only met Li Chengxuan once.

He is good-looking,

but...

Li Chengxuan is a

promising young man.

The achievement of the Li family

will not be limited to their business.

That's the best I can do for Qin Wanning.

Alright.

Anyway, it's better than getting married with me.

I'll have to think of some way

to send Wang Xiyuan back.

Just get her tied up and sent back to her family.

Why do you care so much

about her?

She's obsessed with me.

I don't want to be too callous.

Perhaps she is attracted to me

with my handsome appearance

and amazing charm.

I got a little tipsy.
