[theme music]

(male narrator) Long, long ago, deep in the forest

there was a hidden village where tiny creatures lived.

They called themselves Smurfs.

They were good.

[music continues]

Then there was Gargamel, the evil wizard.

He was bad.

Oh, I hate Smurfs!

I'll get you, I'll get all of you

if it's the last thing I ever do!

[evil laugh]

Oh!

Oh, I'll get you!

'I'll find your village someday. You'll be sorry.'

(male narrator) Well, the forest is still there.

And if you listen, you may hear Gargamel's rage.

And if you are good you may just

catch a glimpse of the Smurfs.

[theme music]

[dramatic music]

[snoring]

[banging on door]

[stammering]

Ooh! Who in blazes can that be?

'Go away.'

Oh. Uh, uh, m-m-mother.

Gargamel, I told you to get rid of this miserable fleabag.

[Azrael yowling]

thud

'You know I hate cats.'

Uh, but-but, mother, I--

And what about those nasty little Smurfs?

Have you caught them yet?

[coughing] Well, I--

Of course not.

Without me, you can't do anything right.

I'll just have to find some weakness

in those creatures that you haven't noticed yet.

Hmm, let's see.

"Smurfs have no use for money. They share and share alike."

- Ha! - Ow!

Surely one of those little imps has a speck

of good old-fashioned greed in his heart.

Right?

Eh, eh, right, mother.

[sneezes]

Luckily, I have the ultimate

Smurf-smashing formula right here.

Ah, there we are.

Come, Gargy, just like we did

when you were mommy's little boy.

(both) Ooga saka waka waka. Ooga saka waka waka.

'On your way, to the Smurfs, depart'

'To find the greed in some Smurf's sweet heart'

[laughs]

boom

'Now, we'll get some action, and some Smurfs.'

[laughs]

[rooster crowing]

[yawning]

Early to bed and early to rise

makes a Smurf hungry for homemade pies.

[chuckling]

Mmm. Why..

Why, that's the smurfiest smell I ever smelt.

Huh? Where did that come from?

Wow, that's me.

Mmm. And that's yummy.

Oh! Wait till all the Smurfs get a taste of these.

Why waste all this on them?

[gasps] Who are you?

I'm the real you, pal.

And if you're smart, you'll keep

these golden goodies for yourself.

[gulps] But-but Smurfs always share.

Hey, you'll never get anywhere thinking that way.

What if there's a drought and all the food dries up?

Then what will you eat, huh? Huh?

You're right. Good idea.

I'd better smurf up for a rainy day.

[laughs] I still haven't lost my touch.

[blows trumpet]

Like, uh, what's that?

(Jokey) Something yummy.

[laughs]

(Smurfette) 'It's coming from Greedy's house.'

Three hundred and two, three hundred and three

three hundred and--

Oh, boy, that looks great.

Uh, say, Greedy, old buddy, uh, can we have some?

Oh, sure, Hefty.

Hold it. Wise up, pal.

Give them one and they'll take you for every goodie you've got.

[Smurfs chattering]

Uh, no, wait. I-I've changed my mind.

Oh. But it smells so good.

Yeah. Uh, couldn't we just have one little bite?

Well..

Why give them something for nothing?

Yeah, why give you something for nothing?

Gosh, suddenly Greedy seems so...greedy.

He doesn't want to give us something for nothing..

...but, uh, nothing's all we've got.

Oh, no, it's not.

Here, Greedy. I'll give you a whole pot

of smurfberries for one of those goodies.

Small potatoes.

Go for the big stuff, his horn.

Uh, how about your horn?

My horn?

But, like, my horn is...my horn.

No horn, no deal.

Okay, okay.

Here, take it.

One for me and one for you.

Yummy!

See how easy it is?

Yeah. Simple as pie. Yum.

Just stick with me, pal, and you'll be a rich Smurf.

[laughing]

[laughing]

Oh, Handy. Just the Smurf I want to see.

I've a hole in my roof that needs fixing, and--

Oh, sorry, Papa Smurf, but I'm selling all my tools

to Greedy for two golden goodies.

Golden goodies?

I'd better find out what's going on.

[instrumental music]

(Greedy) 'Next.'

Hello, Greedy.

And goodbye, old friend.

Parting is such sweet sorrow.

But this is a lot sweeter.

Yahoo!

(both) Oof!

Oh! Who's there?

Brainy, where are your glasses?

Sorry, Papa Smurf.

I just sold them to Greedy for one of these.

Oh, hi, Papa Smurf. What's smurfing?

Well, Greedy..

...I'm-I'm-I'm a little, uh, concerned

about all these, uh, goodies.

So, uh, perhaps I should, he-he-he

test one to make sure everything's okay.

Don't be a sucker. Milk him for all he's got.

Uh, sorry, Papa Smurf, but you'll have to pay for it.

Pay for it? Humph.

Gosh, now Papa Smurf's mad at me.

So what? Soon you'll own this whole village..

...and he'll take orders from you.

[laughing]

Smurfs, the time has come to gulp our golden goodies.

(all) Mmm!

Gosh, that sure was over fast.

Yeah, now what do we do?

I can't do anything. Greedy has all my tools.

And all my surprises.

And all my weights.

And the one and only scarecrow.

[all sigh]

I know. We'll go tell Greedy

we need our stuff back. He'll understand.

And so, Greedy, old pal, you can see that we have a big problem.

Unless you give us our things back.

Gosh, Smurfs. When you put it that way..

No go. A deal is a deal.

Uh, sorry, Smurfs, a deal is a deal.

I hate deals.

I guess all these things mean more to you than we do.

Oh, boohoo!

Yeah, we thought you were our friend. Come on, Smurfs.

[all sniffling]

[Smurfette crying]

Gosh.

Aw, you don't need them. They're a bunch of losers.

You've got everything life can offer. Live it up.

I'll try.

Maybe I'll build something with Handy's tools.

Yeow!

[chuckles] Now you're really king of the hill, huh, pal?

Maybe I'll toughen up by lifting Hefty's weights.

[groaning]

That's it, push higher, higher.

[grunts]

There, see how easy that was?

thud

What are you trying to do, get me killed?

Oh, sorry.

[Smurfs laughing]

I sure do miss them. I even miss Grouchy's grouching.

I thought you had their smurfball.

I do.

[Smurfs laughing]

(Handy) 'Kick it over here!'

That's a pine cone.

You see, they don't need lots of things to have fun.

And by smurf, neither do I.

Hey, Smurfs, here's your stuff back.

- You out of your mind, Smurf? - Not anymore.

But this stuff's worth a fortune.

My friends are my fortune. Now, get lost.

Hey. Stop. Knock it off.

Greedy, what's wrong? What are you swatting at?

Oh, Papa Smurf, you may not believe this

'but there's a little red Smurf'

who keeps telling me to be really greedy.

It all started when I found that weird tree

and ate that first goodie.

I sense Gargamel's hand in this.

But I believe you'll overcome the spell

just by continuing to be generous.

Then what are you waiting for, Smurfs? Come and get it.

(Vanity) 'Thank you, Greedy.'

(all) 'Thank you.'

Yuck. All this kindness is killing me.

[chattering]

Oh, Greedy, we all love you.

[groans]

You were the richest Smurf in the world, and you blew it.

You blew it!

[all cheering]

- Smurf conquers all! - Greedy isn't greedy anymore.

[all cheering]

(Papa Smurf) 'And now, I think it's time we repaid Gargamel'

'for his generous gift.'

[Smurfs cheer]

Oh, cheer up, Gargy.

My magical seed of greed

'will take care of those nasty little Smurfs once and for all.'

- Uh, really? - 'Ha!'

'By now, they're probably destroying'

'each other with their own greediness.'

[laughs]

[both laugh]

[grunts then coughs]

Heh-heh. Uh, you're a genius, mother.

Oh, ho, ho. I know, I know. Ha-ha-ha.

[knock on door]

Oh! The money tree!

But-but how did it get here?

Quick, close the door.

No, no, wait, wait. Look!

All this money has my picture on it.

(mother) 'Don't. Don't. Come inside this instant.'

And-and that wonderful smell.

Yes, wonderful.

It's mine.

- No, it's mine. - It's mine.

- 'Mine.' - 'Mine.'

[all laughing]

They can have their old money.

I'm still the richest Smurf in the world.

[Smurfs cheering]
