[female narrator] Fast forward three years and privatization in Nigeria is in full swing.

Six power generation
and eleven distribution
companies have been sold,

bringing in just
under three billion dollars.

But challenges
for investors still remain,

as the maze of the country's
power sector is
as complex as ever.

[male narrator] In theory,
the country has the capacity

to generate about 12,000
megawatts of power.

So, why is the nation still struggling with 4,500 megawatts on a daily basis?

There are two main reasons:
problems with the grid,
and problem with gas supplies.

[instrumental music]

Trouble once again in Nigeria.

Militants in the country's Niger Delta region have reportedly blown up another crude pipeline,

bringing the country's economy
to its knees.

Several armed factions have
stepped up attacks of oil and gas facilities in recent months.

[news anchor] They're calling
for a greater share of
the country's oil wealth

to benefit host communities
in the Niger Delta.
