This is therevelation of Jesus Christ.

which God has given to Him,to show His servants, what must

soon take place.

God has made it known,

by sending His angel, to Hisservant John...

who testifiesto everything he saw.

Blessed is everyone who hears it

and takes it to heart.

because the time is short.

You have heard of the letter, that our Lord

commissioned me to write.

When you read it again, remember

that it was not a letter from me, but from Him.

Now, I would like to share,from my own heart...

something of the events, the circumstances.

Let me tell youhow it all began.

The place is theDionean Fields.

a morning's journey from the city gate.

The young fugitives are wantedby the Roman soldiers.

Their guilt?They are Christians.

It is the eleventh year in the reign of Domitian.

I was in my eigthieth year, somesixty summers having past,

since the cross, thecrucifiction of our Lord.

These young peopleare about to die.

It is their own plan.

A last desperateattempt to serve me

their revered leader and friend.

They run in the open,attracting attention,

so that they might becaptured and I can escape.

For many weeks past, they have faithfully and

loyally protected me.Finding new hiding places daily,

as the soldiers relentlesslyscoured the hills in pursuit.

Now in a final act,they give themselves.

I am the one you were looking for... take me

and let these young people go.

Arrest this man!

They were disappointed, these young people.

They thought they had failed me.

Not so, for even as the soldiersput the iron on my wrists,

a strange joy came to my heart.

Move them!

I knew that God would make thewrath of man to praise him.

Lord, Is it to be that yourchildren shall always suffer?

Well my friends, surely you cannot forget how He suffered.

He wanted the kingdom and theglory, but instead He gave us

hurt and anguish. Even for these so young...death,

horrible death.

Death to the Christians!

Burn....

Get the torch!

And they thought they had failed,

those precious, young people.

But can there be a greatersuccess than but your life

should bring you to death?

Death for the One who died for you.

But there is another reasonwhy they did not fail.

God used them to prepare me forthe highest mission of my life

Grace and peace to you from Him who is and who

was and who is to come from Jesus Christ, who is the

faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead

and the Ruler of thekings of the earth.

My Lord Octavius, I arrestedthis man, John the Elder,

a leader amongst the sectsknown as Christians.

I offered him his freedom if hewould publicly worship the

Emperor, but he refused to burn the incense.

I have brought him to you for trial as an enemy of the state.

Old man, if you do not recant, I shall take away

all your property.

I have no property.

And if I had and you took it away, I would still be rich,

for I have Christ.

Then I shall have you imprisonedfor the rest of your life.

Iron chains cannot imprisonthose whom Christ sets free.

For where Christ is,there is perfect liberty.

Then I shall take away your life!

Then I shall be with Christ, which is the truest life.

Patmos.

Patmos, to all thosewho defy Caesar.

What is Patmos?

The Island of Death,some call it.

Behold, He iscoming with clouds.

And every eye shall see Him.Even those who pierced Him.

And all peoples of the earth will mourn because of Him.

So shall it be, Maranatha.

Holy, Holy, Holy.

is the Lord God Almighty,

Who was and is and is to come.

You are worthy our Lord and Godto receive glory and honor

and power for You created all things.

Salvation belongs to our Godwho sits on the throne. Amen.

Praise and glory and wisdom andthanks and honor and power

and strength be to our Godforever and ever, Amen.

The island of Patmos was governed by

Sergius Catalinus, once anofficer of the Praetorian Guard.

He fell into disfavor becauseof the excesses of his

uncontrollable bad temper.

A bitter and sad man,a lost soul.

Starting out his existence in anempire of his own making,

Catalinus planned to build atemple on the highest ridge

overlooking the blue Aegean Sea.

First, a road must be built andstones cut in the quarry form

the foundations. The work forcewas gathered from all over the

empire. Slaves from Africa andGaul, prisoners from Asia and

beyond. This was Patmos.Patmos and Catalinus.

Flaminius Martius, Honored Sir.

You are late, Flaminius Martius!

How do explain this time wasting?

Honored Sir, the prisoner, Johnthe Elder, is very old

and he was unable tomake good speed.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.

You are soft, Centurion.

Patmos is no place forthe likes of you.

Now take your men and mount aguard along that ridge.

But Sir, my men haven't eatenfor two whole days.

I don't care if you and yourmen starve, Centurion.

Just get them on duty.

The Kingdom of the world

has become the Kingdom of ourLord, and of His Christ

and He will reign foreverand ever.

You're doomed!

We give thanks to you Lord God Almighty

for You have taken Your greatpower and have begun to reign.

The lot of you, doomed.Now work.

Move!Move you sluggard! Move!

The old man doeshis own work. Now work! Go on!

We were here in the sovereignplan of God.

Here because we were Christians.

Members of the Seven Churches,

over whom the Great Shephardhad given me custody.

and imprisoned together on Patmos.

Patmos, whose very essence wassuffering and death.

What a fellowship we had.

What bonds were so quicklyforged between us.

Members of God's family, privileged to suffer for

His name.- Jason, my own son in Christ.

Is it just three years? You look so much older.

But the spirit, the spirithas not changed.

Get back to your work!

Understand this Christ man, ifyou give me trouble,

if you won't work,I'll have you executed,

crucified. Do you hear me?

How is he?

If only we had water.

You shouldn't have brought him here.

He isn't one of us.He's a traitor!

We should have nothing to do with him

But he is my son.

Not really your son.

He is my son in Christ.

What can be more real than that?

Will he live?

Only God knows.

We're all going to die. Can'tyou see, there's no hope for us.

We're lost men. We havenothing, we are nothing.

Look at us. Rags, dirt, disease,filth. We're treated like scum.

We're nothing, nothing.

I know the cross will be my tomb.

I know. That's how my Father died.

That's how we'll all die.

Assos, Assos, calm down.

Beloved, believe not every spirit. Our Father has lavished

His love upon us, for we are called sons of God.

And that is what we are,sons of God.

The world knows us not, becauseit knew not Him.

What we shall be, has not yet been made known.

But we know that whenChrist shall appear,

we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

Do not be troubled and afraid,Assos. In the Father's house

are many mansions. Christhas gone to prepare us a place.

If it were not so, He would have told us.

And if He has gone away, He will come again

to take us to be with Him forever.

Jesus Christ lay down His life for us. And we are to lay down

our lives for our brothers.

On this dreadful island, there was a fishing village where,

unknown to Catalinus, othermembers of the family of God

lived. They learned of our need for food and water.

and mercifully, at the peril of their own lives, came to help us

Maranatha.

Maranatha.

Maria, we were beginning to think something terrible had

happened to you.Oh no, the Lord, He watches

over me. I've been out these last three nights.

It's Jason. He was beaten badly today.

John, this is Maria. She livesin a fishing village nearby.

Maria, a follower of Christ.A true one.

She risks her life to bring us food and water.

You brought water? Please, give it to me.

to find me some parchment and quills to write with?

Truly, the family of God is a family of kings and priests.

What a fellowship, what a family

We endured much suffering, but as Solomon the Wise told us,

there is a time to weep and a time to laugh

Simmeon, Simmeon. Who am I, huh?

Now understand me all of you.Prisoners are allowed

to die, once a day.

And you're too late for today.

You forget John, I am the one who betrayed the Christians

at Ephesus. I am a coward.A Judas.

I do not forget, Jason. Iremember how you left

your first love and you havesuffered for it.

But today, when you stepped infront of this old man and took

the full force of that whip, youcame back to your true love.

You are my son, Jason and God isvery proud of you.

You are a very brave young man.

Maria has brought us bread andwine, so that we can remember

the Lord. This is the first day of the week. John,

Jesus said, I am the light ofthe world. Whoever follows Me

will never walk in darkness butwill have the light of life.

Also the Psalmist said, The Lordis my light and my salvation.

Of whom then shall I be afraid?

He was wounded for ourtransgressions.

He was bruised for our sins.

And the punishment of our peace was upon him.

By His stripes are we healed.

Write on a scroll what you see

and send it to the SevenChurches, to Ephesus, Smyrna,

Pergamum, Iyatira, Sardis,Philadelphia and Laodicea.

I have seen one who looked like Jesus.

He was wearing a long, whitegown down to His feet.

And He was circled with a golden band across His chest.

His hair was white like wool, aswhite as snow. And His eyes were

blazing like the sun. His feettoo, were like brass glowing

in a furnace. And His voicewas like the sound

of rushing waters. In His righthand, He held seven stars.

And out of His mouth came asharp, double-edged sword.

His face was shining like thesun in all it"s brilliance.

I must write it all down so thatall can hear what the Spirit

is saying to the churches. I know now why God sent me here

and why also He sent you. Thisplace, this suffering; these are

but part of His plan. We arenot lost men, Assos. Our lives

are not unimportant Eutychus. Wehave a task to perform that

cannot be accomplished anywhereelse. Oh, my beloved brothers,

how happy I am to be amongst you all.

I cannot tell you all that I have seen now, but when Maria

brings the paper, I know shewill, for God has planned it so.

I will write it all down.

Yes, well you see after Tiberiusdied, ahd Gaius came to power

he turned his attention to theentire Jewish race.

He, hated them so much, heseized their synagogues

and filled them withstatues of himself.

That must have infuriated them.Yes, yes indeed. But the irony

of the thing was that theseChristians felt that this was

Divine judgement upon the Jewsbecause they wouldn't accept

this Jesus of Nazareth as theirKing. So you see if wasn't long

before Herod mounted aconcentrated attack on the

Christians. He siezed one oftheir Apostles, a man named

James and had him beheaded. Nowthe interesting thing about this

is that, that James is a brotherof John the Elder that we have

with us here now. --- Really,he must be quite old then.

Oh, yes, yes, well overeighty I should say.

Do you know it's absolutelyextraordinary. I've never seen

human beings so much like asses.Their skin so toughened with

beating that when you flog them,you hurt your own self more than

when you hurt them.

Hold up! Down on the knee there.Down on the knee. Down!

Centurion.

Fetch me those three men.

This always happens, they refuseto bow their knee to anyone.

Even me.

Bring forward John the Elder.

Release him.

Most noble Catalinus.

If a man say he has not sinned,can the truth be in him?

Of course not, such walk indarkness.

Trully spoken my lady. For he who says he has not sinned

...is a liar.

that you have as many enemies, as you have prisoners.

Because of the inhuman and cruel way you treat them.

Not as though they were men,but as beasts.

For he that loveth not, knoweth not God. For God is love.

To prove His love, God sent His only son Jesus the Christ

to die in shame. To be spiked byhands and feet. To be crucified,

that we might be forgiven.

Who then is a liar?

He that denieth, that Jesus is the son of God, he is a liar.

He is anti-Christ.

Most nobel Catalinus, are you for Christ,

or are you anti-Christ?

Humph, I am anti-Christ.

And you old man, are a fool.

Put these men to work.

Centurion.

Put them up at the highest level.

We'll soon see who is thegreatest.

Christ or anti-Christ?

Up there old man.

Your words will be tested.

The cruel demands of Catalinus and his men.

The constant beatings, the lackof food, even water

the devastating experience of myordeal with Jason at the quarry

worksite, the exhausting emotionof that first Patmos revelation.

These together, very nearly tookthe full measure of my strength.

Yet I knew I was just at thebeginning, of my Lord's purpose

in bringing me to Patmos.

What happened?

You have beenunconscious for three days.

Jason. How is Jason?

Jason, my son.

Maria came and brought the scrolls.

That is good. I have work to do.First, I must write a letter.

Can someone help me?

Alexander can write.Good, that pleases me.

For you too my son have sufferedfor my sake and the Gospels.

Listen to what the Spirit saysto the church at Ephesus.

I know your deeds, your hard work and your perserverance

But, there is one thing wrong.You have forsaken your

first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen.

If you do not repent, I willcome and take away your

lamp stand. Dear children, keepyourselves from idols.

Begin with this. These are thewords of Him who holds the Seven

stars in His right hand andwalks among the seven golden

lamp stands.But to whom shall I address it?

These are the words of Him, whoholds the seven stars in His

right hand and walks among the seven golden lamp stands.

These Christians are not afraid to die.

For Christ, or anti-ChristSoldier? What do you think?

During the Feast of Bacchus, wewere granted a day's respite.

and the most of his men, couldparticipate in the pagan prayers

and Baccharian orgies.

while Macedon inscribed his ownname in a white stone.

So much of purpose and hope,having gone out of his heart.

Catalinus...why would he come toour wretched hovel?

What cunning scheme runs throughthe dark caverns of his mind?

That will not be necessaryCenturion. -Yes sir!

on this occasion.

You see, these Christiansrecognize another authority.

A higher power.

Well I am here to show youthat there is only one

power in this camp, Roman power.

And I, am that power.

Do you understand that yet old man?

How many more of your little lambs must die

before you will accept the inevitable?

Whose pathetic little lightflickers in this miserable hole.

refused to fulfill the wishes ofhis prisoners.

Come quickly Lord. It was notMaranatha. Don"t cry Assos.

Don't worry Assos. Everythingwill be alright Assos.

Don't you realize, they're notplaying games? Simmeon will be

crucified. And Macedon. You'llnever deny Jesus so he's as good

as dead already. Then they'llcome for Byreer and me.

You did this. And Alexander.Finally, it will be your turn.

And when we're all rotting inthe dump, what then? What then!

Lord, thou knowest all things.Show this young man that he need

not fear the things we are aboutto suffer. Show him how great

the things he must suffer, forThy name. Show him Father that

we wrestle not against flesh andblood but against principalities

and powers. And the ruler of thedarkness of this world.

And against wickedness in highplaces. Father, help us to be

faithful unto death.

How much...longer Lord?

What did he say?He said "how long?"

How many days is it now?It's ten days. I can't believe

he's still alive.Ten days...ten days.

How can you continue to believethat there is any hope. We are

slowly being destroyed. WhyJohn? Why doesn't God do

something.Because God is pleased to permit

this wrong.That suggests He doesn't care

about us.Eutychus, I was there when they

nailed Him to the cross. I sawHim die. I know He cares.

Just and true are your ways,

King of the Ages. Who will notfear You O Lord and bring glory

to Your name. He who has an ear,let him hear what the Spirit

says to the churches. To him whoovercomes, I will give the right

to eat from the tree of lifewhich is in the paradise of God.

Sargeant. Take this soldier andgo and fetch the prisoners.

I have gathered you all herethat you might witness a most

important event. Step forward,John the Elder.

Bring out the prisoners.

Ten days ago, I made a mostgenerous offer to the leader of

the Christians. As you all know,I am the power of life and death

on this island.

The prisoner Macedon, has stolenbread from our kitchens

and would have paid for his crimes with his life but

I choose to place the decisionwhether he lived or died in the

hands of the Christians. Afterall, he is on of them.

Now all I asked for in returnfor his life was that John

should bow to Caesar and acknowledge him as god.

Now as a further example of my generosity, I have already

released the prisoner Simmeon. To all that remains now,

is for John to declare the verdict.

Well, what is it to be John?Life or death?

Your time has run out, John.

Will you bow or will I kill him?

He is already dead, Sir.

It is the second death that menmust fear.

This Jesus of yours, how can Heforgive sins?

Because He alone is God.

Evil sinners, vile. Killers thathave killed your kind.

How can He forgive them, how?

That's why He died on the cross.To save even the vilest

of sinners.

Jesus, cannot forgive me.

He will if you ask Him. Jesuswill not turn anyone away.

He that receiveth it. There,that finishes it.

This is the letter to Smyrna, Maria.

Do you read Maria?I'm only a fisherman's daughter.

There are many learned that donot have the devotion that you

have, my sister. What I have written to Smyrna

is short and to the point.

Fear not these things which thoushall suffer. For the devil

shall cast some of you intoprison. For you shall have

tribulation tame days. To thosewho are faithful until death,

God will give the crown of life.He that overcometh shall not be

hurt of the second death.

Simmeon has got Smyrna.

Here is the letter to Pergamus. Thank you Alexander. There are

things going on in Pergamus thatgrieve me sore. Listen to what

the Spirit says to Pergamus.Here's the place...

So hast there also, them thathold the doctrine of the

Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.Repent or else I will come

quickly and will fight againstthem with the sword of my mouth.

To him that overcometh will Igive to eat of the hidden manner

and will give him a white stoneand in the stone a new name

written. Which no man knowethsaving he that receiveth it.

Protect these well, Maria. Keepthem until I have finished all

the writings then we'll sendthem to the mainland.

God himself will be with them and be their

God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be

no more death, or crying, orpain.

Come and I will show you what must take place.

"And He shall reign for ever andever - and He shall reign

forever and ever - King of kingsforever and ever - and Lord of

lords forever and ever - Heshall reign forever and ever

and ever - King of kings and Lord of lords - King of kings

and Lord of lords - He shallreign forever and ever - forever

and ever - King of kings andLord of lords - Hallelujah

Who isworthy? Who is worthy to open

the book? Who is worthy to loosethe seals and unroll it?

What say you in the heavens?No man in heaven my Lord.

What say you on the earth?There is no man on all the earth

worthy my Lord.What say you in the realm

of Hades?No one from among the dead

is worthy to open and read theBook, my Lord. No one, oh Lord.

No one enywhere is worthy toopen the Scroll and tell us what

what it says. No one is worthymy Lord.

The Son ofour sovereign God is worthy to

take the scroll and break its seals because He was slain and

with His blood He purchased men for God from

every tribe and nation.

As our Lord Jesus Christ breaks each of the Seven Seals,

the restraints that God hasplaced on death and destruction

are lifted. And rebelliousmankind reaps the harvest of His

iniquitous ways.

When the Lamb broke the FirstSeal, a rider went forth

to conquer.

He made lies and deceptions torain down upon the earth.

No hell. No God. Norights. No God. No wrong.

No God. No God. No God.No God. No God. No God.

No God. No God. No God. No God.

Lies! Lies! It's all lies!

When the Second Seal was opened,war broke out everywhere.

Anarchy swept the earth.

After the Third Seal was broken,blight and mildew destroyed

the crops so that millionscould not afford to buy bread.

Oh. Oh please, just a crumb.Please, it's for my baby.

The Fourth Seal was broken anddeath and hell stormed the earth

Famine, disease and wild animalskilled millions.

Water. Water.

After the Fifth Seal was opened,the Christian martyrs cried out

from beneath the opera.How long now before you'll set

a judgement?And avenge our blood upon

those who dwell upon the earth?

As the Sixth Seal broke, amighty earthquake darkened the

sun and shook the earth like afig tree in a high wind.

World leaders cried for therocks to fall on them.

This is the day of God's greatanger.

When the Seventh Seal was openedthere was silence in heaven for

about half an hour while Godlistened to the prayers of

the Saints. And I saw also amultitude that no man could

number. Dressed in whitegarments, standing before

the throne. And an Elder said toto me "The land shall feed them

and God shall wipe away alltears from their eyes for they

have come out of greattribulation sealing our

our testimony with our ownblood." He also said "The Lamb

would lead them onto livingfountains of water."

Sometime later, a great earth-quake shook the whole island

and we just escaped with our lives.

Dear children, remember true freedom

is in our hearts with Christ,not in our circumstances.

Quiet please. Let's all sit down

There's no sign of any Romans

Perhaps they've all been killed!Wouldn't that be great!

We'd be free. Just think of it.

We're free. We're all free!

Assos, we are not free.

If the Romans don't come for us,

We have to go back.- Never! Never!

I'm never going back. You're mad to talk like that.

John tell him. Tell him he's mad.

Assos, Satan is destroying youwith delusions

but I have prayed for you thatyour faith fail not.

Be very careful what you do.

Oh Lord, come quickly.

During my imprisonment on PatmosGod poured out upon me

the full Revelation of his Son,the Lord, Jesus Christ.

It is my earnest hope that youwill read again,

the Book of Revelation, for Ihave recorded everything

So that you will believe thatJesus is the Christ

The Son of God. And that believing in Him

you too will have eternal life.

Deep is our love for Jesus

Deep is our love to Him.
