Original subtitles

Narrator: In the outer banks...

Nick: Hold on.

(groan)

dave: Whoa, (bleep)!

Narrator: Rough weather strikes swiftly.

And the captains face two options...

Dave: No fish is worth anybody's life.

Narrator: Retreat or fish?

So when a massive weather front pummels the fishery,

who will prevail?

Tyler: Woo-hoo! Yeah!

(groan).

Narrator: And who will be left underwater?

Tj: Go!

Greg: Crank, crank, crank, crank!

Narrator: This is wicked tuna: Outer banks.

Tj: Oh, to be a bluefin tuna fisherman.

Narrator: Smallest boat in the fleet,

rasta rocket holds a narrow lead over local vessel

little shell.

While the fleet looks to gain ground before a series

of approaching storms hit.

Man (over radio): The following is a wind advisory for

hatteras island in northern outer banks.

North winds 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

Coastal flood advisory remains.

Nick: I mean, there's nobody out here.

Little shell fishes in a lot of rough weather.

That's how we're gonna make this season successful.

We're local and we're gonna push hard.

We're gonna cross the bar when no one else feels comfortable doing it.

Brandan: We got some real weather coming.

Talking up to 23-foot seas.

Nick: Here we go. And I'm scared of it.

But I'm scared not paying my bill, my mortgage.

So I got to fish when no one else will.

Our main challenge fishing here is weather and when the wind kicks up

the sandbar where the ocean and the inlet meet,

it creates dangerous waves and conditions that

have been known to sink boats.

They don't call this place the graveyard of the atlantic for nothing.

Nick: I was hoping for like a little less wind.

It's gonna be choppy.

The bar's gonna be rough.

We're just getting up here to the bar.

Cliff: (bleep) hell, hold on.

Give it to 'em, boys. Give it to 'em.

Nick: Hang on. Hang on, boys.

Cliff: All right, get to it. (bleep)

nick: Can't really see.

Hang on here, comes a good one.

Cliff: Get to it. Just hold on. Hang on. Hang on.

Nick: Hang on. Here comes another one.

Cliff: All right, give it, give it to her.

Hang on, (bleep).

Nick: We're in the deep water now.

This is just sea right here.

Well...

Nick: We have made it across the bar.

We are going fishing.

If I don't have a heat stroke first.

Zack: Hold on.

Zack: Oh, yeah, boys.

Daniel: We're going fishing anyways.

Zack: Open ocean.

Nick: Yeah. Could have slept in this morning.

The weather finally broke.

Everybody's out here.

Greg: Blowing a little bit. Misty overcast. Tuna weather.

I hope they know it. I don't think they do.

Tj: All right. Here we go.

See if me and the old man can get it done.

It's just me and dad this trip.

And being a man down is definitely a disadvantage,

especially in rough weather.

Cold out here.

Tim: Yeah, you ain't lying.

Tj: The southern guys like to say us gloucester boats

can't handle rough weather like they can,

but I'm hoping we can prove them wrong.

Tim: Oh. (bleep).

Zack: We weren't able to get out this morning.

The bar was real nasty.

The wind's was blowing 30 mile an hour.

It's big weather fishing in a small boat, you know.

We have to be really careful,

but we're gonna be pushing our bodies to the limit.

We're gonna be grinding, man.

That's what we're gonna have to do to stay on top.

Nick: So much for beating the morning rush.

Oh, boy.

Tyler: Whoa.

Marissa: Big waves. Oh my god.

My brush is in the toilet. My brush is in the toilet.

Tyler: Merm dropped her brush in the toilet.

Tj: Oh, that's great.

Marissa: No, I didn't drop it in the toilet.

It flew off the counter into the toilet.

Tyler: Correction it flew off of the counter into the toilet.

Marissa: And I do have an extra one of those too, so I'm prepared.

Tyler: She's got an extra.

Got two blow dryers and two hair straighteners.

We're ready for anything over here.

Marissa: Woo. Tyler: Woo.

Zack: It's hard when it's rough and we got a little boat.

We're already at a disadvantage.

I mean, we're marking some fish.

We need them to bite our hook.

Come on, baby. Give us ours.

Tyler: Uncle big mark. Sweet mark.

Marissa: Tuna mark? Tyler: A really nice mark.

Put the stick out today.

Doing things a little differently than we've been doing all season.

This is definitely stick weather for sure.

Bite it. Bite it.

Got 'em on the stick.

Woo. Merm.

Stick bite, merm. Stick bite, merm. Burning it down.

Woo. Woo-hoo. Yeah.

Marissa: Nice work.

Tyler: Wait until nick hears we got one on the stick.

Tyler (over radio): A stick bite right here.

7-68-682.

Nick: All right. I'm gonna crank my (bleep) in.

Zack: Well, that sucks. We're gonna get ours.

Nick: Make a run.

We're pulling in our gear and we're gonna steam over a few miles to where tyler is.

If tyler's getting bites on the greenstick,

we definitely need to be there.

Cliff: You better hurry because he's gonna take all.

Nick: Everything in?

Cliff: Yeah, we're ready to travel.

Ride this bronco.

Brandan: We got a big bite happening up here.

We got to go get this.

Ready to rock.

Nothing's been happening all day.

Here we go, baby.

Nick: Hang on. Gonna get squirrelly.

Whoa.

(glass breaking)

cliff: What the (bleep)?

Nick: That wave just broke our window.

Uh-oh, be careful. We got to have tape.

The wave shattered our side window.

And that just let you know how powerful these waves are.

Cliff: Outrigger.

Nick: You think it'll survive this ride?

Cliff: Don't push too hard on that one, on there.

We got some weather coming up.

We just got to spend a few minutes to try to stop this

before this little problem becomes a bigger problem.

Slow her down for a minute.

Just don't drive her no harder.

Tyler: Hold on, merm. Big waves. Big tunas.

Marissa: Woo.

Tyler: Let's go. Woo.

I haven't put the stick up in a whole year.

Not even fishing in an hour.

They want us to call him nick the stick.

I got it dialed in too.

Marissa: Let's get that tuna onboard first.

And it's really nice, especially on a day like today.

Not having to crank on the rod.

Having the hydraulic reel.

It is a nice advantage today because it's so rough out and cold.

Tyler: Definitely starting to gain line.

The fish is getting tired.

Shorten the leash.

Try and see if we can't get him up the boat.

Finesse game.

This thing has a lot of power you can very easily bust these fish off.

Got to get this fish.

Definitely a good sized one.

Uh-oh. We got tuna. Get the tail gaff, merm.

Being so rough out,

you're constantly getting thrown up in giant waves and

falling off the giant waves.

When you create slack in the fishing line it can break at any point in time.

We've got to be careful getting this fish up.

Here, hold this, merm.

Pull the line. Pull, pull, pull.

Marissa: Ahh.

Tyler: Okay. Tail rope. Hold that tail rope, merm.

Pull that thing tight. Woo!

(marissa groans)

we got him.

Marissa: Jumbo. Woo. That's a beauty.

Tyler: Yeah. Woo-hoo.

Marissa: Woo, look at the size of this bluefin.

Tyler: Huge bluefin. Woo. Yes.

We're extremely lucky to have landed a fish during this weather break.

Marissa: Our first greenstick fish of the season.

Tyler: The weather changes quickly in the outer banks.

It's stormy one second and sunny the next.

The weather is gnarly.

It's unbelievable place.

What are we looking at?

Marissa: 106.

Tyler: Wow, what a big beautiful fish.

Marissa: Just what we need. Tyler: Greenstick, baby.

Marissa: Mary strikes again.

Mary: Glad to see you guys. What do you got for me today?

Tyler: A 106. Nice looking fish.

Mary: Awesome.

Tyler: Fishing the outer banks in the winter is

a huge challenge for anybody,

but merm and I are offloading our biggest fish yet and proving to the fleet

that we can get the job done.

Now, we're praying this fish has what the buyer is looking for.

Good fat, good color to get us a good price per pound.

What's the weight on this pig?

Mary: 502 pounds dressed guys.

Tyler: Damn. Marissa: Wow. Tyler: Unreal.

Mary: Unreal. Let's see what the tail cut looks like.

All right, here we go.

Color's not bad.

It's not as really as red, but it's not bad.

Let me see the core.

All right, so the core looks nice and clear.

Little bit of rainbow there.

A little bit of fat coming in, not that much.

That being said,

I'm gonna say $12 a pound.

Tyler: All right, it's decent.

We got to grind harder than we've ever had to grind.

We've got to dig deep and do what we can do,

so try and grab some sleep,

grab some fuel, regroup and get back out there.

Dirty: The weather has changed.

That's probably the third time today.

Billon: Yeah. The wind's picked up.

The weather's gonna get worse tonight.

Dirty: Ooh. Oh.

Greg: It's rough and rainy.

Greg (over radio): Oh, dot-com finally decided to join us.

Paul: Oh, look at this one.

Greg (over radio): Come in, dot-com.

I see you finally made it out.

Greg (over radio): What's the matter?

Scared of a little outer banks weather?

Paul: It's all right, we're gonna wait for the big one today, dave.

Dave: Anybody fishing the east coast, all the way from canada,

all the way down to florida, knows about the outer banks.

Here, the gulf stream and labrador currents collide creating dangerous conditions.

Countless ships have perished.

So if he wants to call me scared.

Damn straight I am.

Dave: That's a fish right there, paul.

Paul: Yeah.

Dave: Yeah, I'm marking a bunch right now.

Dave (over radio): Maybe this will be the one.

Greg: Riding around for (bleep) hours, I can't get a bite.

Billon: We suck today. But today's not over.

Greg: Oh, there's some at 10. Wow, right across the screen.

Billon: Lord, please.

Greg: Get ready.

Paul: The tunas like this boat.

They're gonna come right up and eat one of these baits.

Dave: There we go. There we go.

Paul: Streaker.

Greg: Come on, baby.

Sandro: (bleep). Yeah, come on. Come up and eat. Let's go.

Dave: Come on!

Paul: Here we go! We're on!

Dave: Got 'em on.

Paul: Big fish. Big fish.

Sandro: Woo! Got 'em on.

(laughs)

dave: Yeah. Got 'em on one of those ballyhoos.

Greg: They don't like what we got.

There they are.

(reel unspooling rapidly)

there he is.

Billon: There he is right here.

Got 'em on. Feeling good.

Greg: Sometimes you just have to cry up a bite.

Got 'em on.

We've fought a lot of fish in weather like this.

That's probably one advantage we have.

(groans)

that's probably one advantage we have over a lot of these other boats,

we're a little bit bigger.

And we fish a lot of rough weather.

I can't say the same about dot-com.

Dave (over radio): Frenzy's on.

These guys want to treat us like amateurs.

We're gonna show them that we could fish their weather on our terms and

still land a bluefin.

Very big wave coming.

(thud)

(sandro groans)

dave: Is he still there?

Sandro: Woo! Got 'em on! Dave: Very big wave coming.

(thud)

(sandro groans)

(paul laughs)

dave: Is he still there?

Sandro: Yeah. Oh yeah. Greg is on. Get on it.

Dave: How's that? Sandro: All right.

Damn, we got a big boy on here.

Billon: What's it acting like? We good?

Dirty: Got a little weight to it now.

Billon: Feels like a nice fish.

Dirty: What we've been patiently waiting for.

It's our turn, so when it's rough like this,

the swell's rolling the boat like it's doing now.

A lot of times they're not hooked good.

The hook will just come out.

Whoa!

Dave: This is a jumbo right here.

This is a 100 plus inch fish for sure.

We just got to take our time.

Super rough.

Nice gain.

Whoa! (bleep)!

Sandro: Whoa!

Dave: Everyone's goal right now is to get one and

get home safe before the weather picks up.

There's the end zone.

Hopefully we can score a touchdown with him.

Paul: Ooh! Sandro: Ooh, slippage.

Dave: I like when they stay tight, I don't like this.

200 feet away.

(snap)

dave: Oh. Wow! He's gone. All right let's go.

Sandro: Un-(bleep)-real.

Pull the hook?

Paul: Yup.

Welcome to tuna fishing.

Sandro: The outer banks is not nice to us.

Greg: Coming up here quick.

Fighting a fish in rough seas takes timing,

skill and an ability to adjust to a constantly changing sea.

Dirty: The tip's kind of like oil rig. Just pumping him up and down.

Greg: This is why we've dominated here for years.

Billon: See him?

Dirty: Yeah, coming up.

Billon: Uh-huh. There he is.

Dirty: I'm-a roll him over here.

He's right here on the corner.

Billon: Oh, yeah. Here we go.

Greg: Stick him!

Billon: Got him. Right here.

Greg: I got his tail. Get the rope. To my left.

Billon: Got him? Greg: Beautiful. Dirty: Pretty work, team.

Billon: We'll take him.

Greg: All right. Let's go ahead and put him in the boat.

Dirty: Yup.

Greg: Here we go. That way.

A little better than we thought.

Okay. Let's see what we got.

Billon: Woo! 92, woo. Greg: Nice. Dirty: Welcome to the obx.

Get tough or get lost.

Greg: Yeah. Welcome aboard.

Dirty: Welcome aboard.

Man (over radio): Here is the offshore water's forecast.

Gail warning tonight.

North to northwest winds up to 50 miles per hour.

Seas eight to 13 feet.

Rain, flood advisory until 4:00 am Saturday.

Zack: We didn't do it today.

Daniel: Ain't no fun being on this end of the stick.

Zack: Let's go ahead and get in before this rain hits.

I mean, the risk is there.

Just another little factor on our small boat.

Dave: Listening to the forecast,

I think we're gonna wrap it up right now and catch

up to you guys.

I'm not comfortable running at night by myself.

All right. Reel 'em up.

Tj: You know, dave, you can see he's nervous.

So this is dave's first real taste I think of the obx and what we tried to tell him.

We're like, man, it could be nice and then within three hours,

it's just completely hellacious.

But anytime you make a decision to go in early, it could cost you.

I mean, this fish could flash in here,

could be a bloodbath.

So we're staying.

Nick: I mean, we might get our asses kicked but we're not going in.

It is what it is. That's how you get 'em.

Zack: We gonna bust on out here, man.

Catch 'em up. Be safe.

Tj: All right, rocket. Safe trip in.

We're gonna take the chance and stay out a little longer.

Dave: This is the easy call. We're gonna reel these in.

Get this boat out of here and at that bar.

No fish is worth my life.

No fish is worth anybody's life on this boat.

Zack: It's gonna be a heck of a ride.

Whoa!

Dave: And look at all the fish here too.

Tj: I mean, this could bite me in the butt,

but I'll give it a shot.

Tim: No guts, no glory.

(thunder and lightning)

(pounding rain)

greg: Mary? Is that mary?

Mary: Well, hello, fellers.

Dirty: Lovely weather. Greg: It's tuna weather.

Mary: We'll see if it was worth it.

Greg: Bluefin season. It's pretty simple.

We got a limited quota.

We got a limited time to catch 'em.

I was not gonna sit at the dock.

It was a tough day, but we ended up making it pay off.

What do we got there?

Mary: 365 pounds, dressed.

Greg: That's a good one.

Billon: I'll take anything after today.

Greg: Yeah, I know.

Take a look at him and see what we got.

Mary: Sounds good.

Okay. Well, here it is.

I don't see any problems with the tail meat at all.

Greg: No, I don't either. It's got some fat too.

Mary: I do see some fat here and the minors here and looks like the majors too.

Greg: Nice.

Mary: Let's see what the core looks like.

Yeah, it's got a great red color.

I think I can pay you...

$15 a pound.

Greg: Fifteen's not bad. We'll take it.

Billon: After today.

Greg: Yeah, I think we earned it today.

Mary: Great job. Greg: All right, mary. Thank you.

Mary: I'm glad you guys put in the extra effort.

Billon: Thank you. Mary: Glad it paid off. Billon: All right. Awesome.

Thank the lord.

Tj: Starting to blow now.

Need a bite.

It's getting rougher by the minute and the longer I stay out on the ocean the

more I wonder if I made the right choice.

Little shell and I both stayed out.

We could be safe on shore right now, but you got to push the limits in the outer banks.

That's all she wrote for the trolling part of the day.

Tim: Might as well get them while I can, right?

Tj: I'm gonna fire a couple baits out.

Just getting on the drift,

trying to figure out the weights and how we're drifting,

but we'll get it dialed in.

(hard rain)

it's pouring rain. Hear that rain?

It's blowing, it's rough as hell.

(beeping)

we just marked one.

One single, 25 fathom.

(beeping)

that's the mark we need.

Aw, come on.

(rod creaks)

(reel unspooling)

I heard something snap.

Not really acting like a tuna, but stranger things have happened, so.

Blowing, huh?

It's just me out here down and tight blowing gale, pouring rain.

I'm out here cranking on something very big.

I'm hoping it's the right species.

Acting like a tuna. I don't, I don't know.

Could be worse things I could be doing.

Rough as hell, pouring rain.

Out here in the gulf stream bobbing on the surface.

Oh, to be a bluefin tuna fisherman.

Dad's sleeping.

Not gonna wake dad up unless I think it's definitely a tuna.

Took a lot of line, but it doesn't seem like the right species.

But I don't feel like a hammerhead would take that much line though.

It's got a lot of line out still.

Could be a swordfish.

We stayed up getting pulverized by

the atlantic ocean for over 12 hours.

High winds, big waves, it takes a toll.

I'm just hoping against hope that we've got a bluefin on the line.

Got the mono back, about 200 feet away now.

Still doesn't feel like a tuna,

but I've had tunas do some weird stuff over the years,

so I ain't taking a chance.

I should get a harpoon just in case.

Good thing I put nice dry clothes on.

Definitely circling.

Getting close now about 50 feet away.

Swivel. Is it a tuna?

Yeah, tuna! Dad! Dad! Get up!

Get the (bleep) up.

Tim: I'm up! I'm up! Tj: Get up! Let's go!

Tim: I'm up!

Tj: Come on! Hurry up! I got him right here.

Get a gaff!

Tim: I'm up! I'm up!

Tj: Come on! Get a gaff!

Tim: I'm coming. Why'd you wait so long?

Tj: I thought it was a shark.

Right here! Right. Right. Get the rope!

(groans)

it felt like a (bleep) shark,

but it dumped the reel.

He's shot.

Dad, cinch it.

Cinch it. Tie it up. Tie it up.

Tim: I got him. Tj: Oh, yeah! Woo!

We got him, baby.

Not many guys stuck it out tonight,

but we did and it was all worth it.

Woo!

The hot tuna's not gonna let rough weather stop us from proving that we

can land bluefin regardless of the conditions.

Oh, boy.

At least captain ballbuster got a little extra needed sleep.

But he got a pretty good alarm clock to wake up to.

Tim: Whoa, nice!

Nice fish, man.

Tj: Bigger than I thought. Tim: Nice looking fish, tj. Tj: Want to get a measurement?

Tim: Yeah, let's measure him out, man.

Tj: Beauty. 95.

Tim: 95, baby. Beautiful. Beautiful.

Nice job, tj.

Tj: That's a nice way to wake up, huh?

Tim: Yeah. I got to go back to sleep.

I'm tired.

โ™ช โ™ช

tj: Pulling back into wanchese harbor and the tides,

the tides around here are just

extremely high and we've got mega, mega flood tides.

Up the parking lot, places you never see water.

What's up, dennis?

It was rough as hell last night.

It's rough in this thing.

Dennis: I think this season in particular.

You got to make hay while the sun is shining.

Tim: That's right, man. They're biting.

Dennis: Looks like a nice round fish.

Tj: He's all yours now, man.

Dennis: Let's see if it's got any fat.

Tj: We took a beating last night,

but it was totally worth it for this fish because

no one going out today with this crazy tides.

What we got, den?

Dennis: 418 pounds dressed, tj.

Tj: Perfect size, baby. Perfect. Tim: Nice. Beautiful.

Dennis: Nice shaped fish. Let's see if it's got any fat.

Tj: All right. Let's check him out.

Tim: What do we got here, dennis?

Dennis: Nice fat content.

There's so much oil, the meat is almost gliscerinated

tj: Oh, wow. Yeah.

Dennis: The tail color's not as sharp though.

If core's nice and red you're in good shape.

Tj: Uh-hmm. Let's check out the core.

Dennis: Nothing wrong with that.

No burn at all.

Tj: Beautiful core. That's a pretty nice unit. What are you thinking...

Dennis: $18 a pound, guys.

Tj: Sold, baby. That's our highest price this season man, thank you.

Dennis: Well done.

Tim: Thanks, dennis. Hopefully we'll see you tomorrow.

Dennis: Thanks for the fish. Tj: All right, dennis. See ya. Tim: Thank you.

Tj: Well look at the water. Look how high it's up. Look at the parking lot there.

Marissa: Yeah.

Tj: I just got a call from nick on the little shell.

His area is completely flooded out on the road.

My heart breaks for a guy like nick and other locals that are going through this.

The area where nick is isn't very elevated,

so it sounds like they're getting wiped out pretty good over there.

Marissa: That's crazy. Tj: It's bad.

Nick: Normally, we'll get water like this once

every five years during a hurricane.

But this is odd for just a wintertime blow.

It's got me worried.

My whole neighborhood's underwater right now.

Oh, boy. Days like this.

It's just one of them things you deal with out in the outer banks.

We live on a sandbar, you know, basically.

I figure we'd get a little bit of water,

but not like this.

This is hurricane-type water.

You know, a lot of my neighbors stuffs floating off.

I don't think a lot of people understand, this is all salt water too.

It does damage.

My house is right here around the trashcan, it's blown over.

This is our backyard.

Oh, boy. Oh, boy. Oh!

Nick: Oh, boy!

This right here is as bad as I've seen.

Chrissy: Everybody was at work today.

All the kids went to school.

And then all of the sudden I got a call from my neighbor

right here that said,

the water's up about a foot high so far,

so nick had to rush home and this is what we

came home to.

Nick: My little girl's bikes and our toys that she rides are under saltwater.

Not good.

This is like my little sanctuary.

And yeah, it sucks.

Um...

It's just heartbreaking, you know, they say a fire takes everything.

And so after the fact the fire's burned it up,

you forget about it.

A flood sort of goes away and you're left with all the memories.

It's depressing.

It's one of them things that I didn't see happening you know.

It's just, man, it's just I'm catching a lot of tunas.

I'm doing good, I'm making money and

now it's like slowly the money's being sucked right from me.

Dave: Ready? Paul: Yes.

Sandro: Yes. Let's get out of here.

Dave: Dude, that was a disaster down here yesterday.

Paul: Hey, we're floating, baby.

Dave: That's a good sign. Let's go.

Paul: Yeah. Sandro: The boat wants to go.

Dave: People give me a hard time for being cautious,

but time and time again,

the outer banks proves it's no joke.

So I'll take risks, but I'm not gonna risk my boat or our lives.

We're finally getting back out after yesterday's crazy, crazy weather.

It blew 40 to 50 last night.

And it's gonna do the same tonight.

Yesterday was just, was a wild day all around.

Zack: When we got in last night,

there was a great big pretty much monsoon.

And the wind picked up.

Hold on.

There's a lot of ground to make up for sure.

Today's got to be the day. We got to catch something.

We just got to really pay attention and make sure one of these waves doesn't come

crashing over the boat.

Bobby: Hold on, brother. Hold on. Big one.

Up and down.

It's a little sporty out here, to say the least.

But they had a couple days out there where they scored big,

so I think we're in the right spot.

Brian: Yeah, it's really frustrating.

You know, I could be at home with my family.

Could be chilling with my kids.

I'm out here chasing these damn fish, trying to get some money.

And we can't get a bite.

Bobby: Yeah.

Brian: Just got to keep doing what we're doing.

Hopefully it's gonna come together for us.

Bobby: Got a mark.

Brian: Maybe they'll (bleep) eat something.

Bobby: Just waiting our turn, man.

Starting to feel a little possessed.

70 feet, big pack!

Big pack!

Wow, we're close. Wow.

We're marking fish everywhere.

When you come out here and you don't catch,

you're just going backwards.

It's what's important.

(reel unspooling rapidly)

brian: There he is. There he is. There he is.

Bobby: Booyah! Drew! Just stay on the fish.

Don't worry about anything else, bri.

Brian: Clear the lines. Come on up and play.

Bobby: Come on!

You want to move that rod that's next to it?

Drew: There we go. Fish on.

Bobby: Now we're fishing.

Brian: Hey, bobby. You want to get on that wheel?

Bobby: Yeah. I got you, bro.

Brian: He's on that side. We're turning all crazy, bro.

Bobby: I'm gonna spin you, bro.

Brian: That's what we need.

I don't care what it is.

As long as it's 73.

Bobby: We know there's another storm coming in here tonight and we just hope

to be in with a fish before that storm gets here.

You're ready to turn?

Brian: Yeah.

Bobby: Hold on, brian. We're gonna turn hard.

Tight, bri?

Brian: Yeah.

Bobby: The bite we've been looking for.

We just got to stay focused now.

God knows we need to go home.

Somebody crossed in front of my bow though.

Brian: Bro, you want to turn to him.

Like get him off the back.

Bobby: Yeah. I got to boat in front of me that's the only thing, dude.

We're turning now.

Brian: Turn to the left.

Turn that way, man. Turn away from the fish.

Bobby: I'm trying, dude. I can't because of the waves.

(line snap)

brian: (bleep). He's gone, bro.

Bobby: He's gone?

Brandan: Just keep going to the left.

Bobby: I am.

Brian: That way. That way!

Bobby: (bleep), it's left.

With the tone!

Brian: What the (bleep) you crying about, bro?

Bobby: It's (bleep) left. It's (bleep) left!

How much left do you want to be!

Bobby: I am. Brian: That way. That way! Bobby: I...

(bleep), it's left. With the tone.

Brian: What the (bleep) you crying about, bro?

Bobby: It's (bleep) left! It's (bleep) left!

How much left do you want to be, (bleep), (bleep), (bleep).

Brian: Yeah, so let's throw (bleep).

Bobby: Dude, but you keep yelling at me.

Brian: I'm not yelling at you I'm just trying to say that we.

Bobby: Is the fish gone? Brian: Gone, bro.

Bobby: That's what you're yelling at.

(bleep).

Brian: A lot on the line.

Sucks man, everybody's frustrated.

Bobby: When you're playing from behind and you're trying to beat the weather.

We feel like we're falling down a hole.

We just may not be able to dig our way out.

(screams)

nick: We are in dire need of a strike.

I'm away from home.

I left my wife with a wet soggy mess.

I just need to be home, but I can't afford to go home.

Cliff: Right now, we're just trying to find a fish.

You know, we all want to be the guy that catches a fish and goes in tonight.

Marissa: Freezing on the pinwheel.

Tyler: Epic conditions.

Anyone around?

Marissa: Rasta rocket's heading in.

They haven't been able to fish because of the sea,

too rough for them.

Tyler: Sending out a drift bait.

We got to get 'em on the drift.

Marissa: Get 'em on the drift.

Come on, tuna.

Nick: Oh, boy. Not good weather.

We're one of the few boats still left out here.

I know dot-com's around nearby, there's a few others too.

The whole map is kind of covered with rain.

In my experience...

Nick: Not ideal conditions for fighting a fish.

Y'all get some rest. I'll keep watch.

Hoping to catch a fish. It is not happening.

Sandro: Yeah.

Dave: These conditions are not what we're used to nor are we comfortable with,

but if nick's out here despite everything that happened,

we have no excuse,

we're gonna have to stick it out.

We're gonna have to catch a fish.

We got get one and get home. Give them the blessing, guys.

Paul: Pitch and catch.

Dave: Here we go.

(beeping)

nick: Here they come. Come on, baby. Yes, that's real.

Dave: All right. We're gonna get 'em, guys.

Oh, yeah, he's all over it. We're gonna go.

Paul: Pulling you around. Dave: We're goin.

Oh, my god, that rod's got to bend over.

(beeping)

nick: Marking 'em right here.

Yes, yes, yes!

(beeping)

(reel clicking)

(reel unspooling rapidly)

sandro: We're on! We're on! We're on! We're on!

There we go. Yeah, we're on.

Paul: Dave, where's your hat?

Sandro: Step on. Let me grab my jacket.

Paul: Good one?

Sandro: Yeah, we're on. He's smoking us.

Paul: All right.

Sandro (over radio): Got 'em on the rod and reel, boys.

Nick: Come on, baby, be the right (bleep).

Yeah! Got 'em on! Come on. Yeah, boys.

Nick: Little shell weather here.

Sandro: Hold it there, neutral.

Dave: Not easy with the swinging waves, huh?

Sandro: No. Sloppy. Sloppy.

Dave: Touch to reverse.

Nick: Let's get some, here we go.

Cliff: Damn, that wind just picked up.

Brandan: We got to get the weight.

Nick: That's the 40 fathom mark.

There's your weight, brandan.

Cliff: Pretty work. Pretty work, boys.

Brandan: Crank, crank, crank, crank!

Dave: Coming up, paul! Steady. We got him in a pinwheel.

Color right here.

The swivel's just below the surface.

Right here, paul.

Paul, right here. Shot, drill him!

Sandro: Hit him! Yeah! Dave: Swivel's on the reel.

Paul: Gaff. Right behind you, dave.

Good, dave. Grab the gaff.

Dave: You got him? Paul: No. Back up.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

Dave: Gonna dive down here.

Getting away.

Paul: Broke it. Broke the line.

Sandro: Oh, you got to be (bleep) kidding me.

Dave: Let's get the other dart then.

Sandro: What the (bleep).

Dave: Cut the line. Cut the line.

Paul: No. There's no pressure.

Dave: We can't talk about it now.

Let's get the fish. That's the important thing.

The harpoon line just snapped.

But the dart is still inside the fish.

What that does is it compromises the integrity of the main line,

with each swell, we're praying that the line does not part.

Paul: Big wave. Big wave right here.

Dave: Look out. Keep your eye on the line.

Sandro: Oh. You've got to be (bleep) kidding me.

Dave: Let's get the other dart then.

We're worried about the harpoon that's on the line.

The line's compromised.

We got a lot of issues right here.

Conditions, obstacles, stay focused in on the task at hand, that's all.

Settle down.

Paul: It's our turn, baby. Dave: Very close, very close. Paul: See him? Right there.

Dave: Watch that line, paul.

(laughs)

paul: Woo-hoo!

Gaff, somebody?

Dave: Sandro's got it.

Hurry, guys. Let's get it secured.

Paul: Rope behind you on the box, please.

Sandro: You got him on the middle.

Paul: Woo! Yeah!

Dave: Thank god. That was miracle.

Everybody counted us out, not anymore.

Cliff: Crank, crank, crank, crank.

Nick, I'm just trying to bump it and keep it on the killing side.

He's lifting up. He's coming up! He's coming up!

There's your fish tail wrapped, brandan.

Nick: Got your gaff.

It's too dark for a harpoon shot.

It's dark and rainy and visibility is low.

These seconds are critical.

It's very, very easy for us to lose our paycheck to these waves.

Cliff: Hurry that gaff.

Hurry, boys, hurry.

I got a good shot.

Where's the rope!

Nick: Careful, we're gonna lose him!

Move it, brandan. Get him tied off.

(bleep).

Brandan: All right. There you go.

Nick: We got him. Dude!

Cliff: You got it cleated off? Brandan: Yeah. Nick: Holy (bleep).

After the last couple days, you know the broken window,

the flood at my house.

I can't tell you how thankful I am for this fish.

Me and my crew toughed it out and fought through the storm and

came out on the other side of it with just what we needed.

Brandan: I got him. Let him down.

Nick: Hell yeah.

Cliff: Boss, it's getting rough too.

I'm glad to have him, 88 inches, all right!

Pretty work.

Nick: Hell yeah!

You can't keep the little shell down, baby.

Going home.

Dave: Let's pull this boot in.

Paul: Right there. Sandro: All right.

Dave: Keeping up with the pack.

(groan)

sandro: Hold on. 91.

Paul: 91 inches, nice fish.

Sandro: Thank god that line held up.

Dave: We'll go in the bar when the tide changes.

It's a bad day out here. I'm not taking any risks.

Paul: We did it. Woo!

Paul: Let's lighten up the load, dave, let's lighten her up.

Sandro: What's up, scott? Scott: What's up, guys? Paul: He's a nice tuna.

Sandro: Another trip. Another fish.

Dave: Raining, cold, we were wet.

Paul: It was a fisherman's day.

Dave: Yeah it was.

Scott: Wouldn't doubt you for a minute.

Dave: Let's get him up. Scott: Let's check it out.

Paul: Rough, pouring out, windy.

I mean, it takes people a long time to get to know this place,

so dave's doing good.

Dave: Looks all right from here, scott.

Paul: That's what happens when you have three guys

that know what they're doing and that work good together.

Sandro: What do you got, scott?

Scott: 345 pounds, dressed.

Paul: All right. Dave: Let's go check him out. Scott: Let's do this.

This is what we're looking for.

Sandro: Wow, that was good.

Scott: See that? Watermelon color.

Sandro: It's got a lot of fat in it.

Dave: It does, right?

Paul: A lot of oil, a lot of fat.

Scott: I hope the core's good, man.

Dave: Gonna be, they all have been.

Sandro: Yeah it is. Beautiful.

Scott: It's a diamond.

Dave: What do you think, scott?

Scott: Well, with everything I said, bottom line...

Paul: Yeah. Scott: 17 bucks a pound.

Paul: All right! That's a good one, bro.

Dave: Thank you.

Sandro: Quick, before he changes his mind.

Paul: Good job. Good job, dude. Right here.

Dave: Thank, scott. Appreciate it. Thank you.

Scott: See you later.

Paul: That's how we do it. This is how we roll.

Dave: I mean we are getting it figured out.

No doubt about it.

Paul: Yeah!

Nick: I'm happy.

Cliff: What's up, scotty? Scott: Hey, what's up?

Everything okay at your house?

Nick: Everything's good, man.

Back fishing. We earned him too. It was rough and raining.

We're really lucky on this one.

Let's get him off here and look at him.

Scott: Let's do it. Nick: All right, let's do it.

The conditions today were miserable.

It rained all night.

My house has been, there's been water in it and I can't believe we

caught a fish actually.

It was like a huge relief because I honestly didn't think we were gonna get one.

We were very lucky to get this fish.

What do we got, scotty?

Scott: 282 pounds dressed. Nick: Nice! Scott: Let's check it out.

Nick: All right. Let's do it.

Scott: Not bad.

A little bit of fat in the majors.

Nick: Good toro. I like it.

Scott: I just hope it's not burnt.

Nick: I hope so too. Scott: Let's check it out.

Nothing wrong with that.

Nick: No. Good-looking.

Scott: Solid.

Nick: What can you give us for him?

Scott: $14 a pound.

Nick: All right, nice! Well, thank you very much.

Scott: No problem. Good job, you guys.

Nick: Thank you. Good job. Good job.

Brandan: Give me that money.

Nick: Tough few days, but that's wintertime in wanchese for you.

Narrator: After the storm,

catches from pinwheel, hot tuna, frenzy,

and dot-com gain the boats ground in the competition.

And little shell's hard-fought tuna launches

the battered boat into the top spot,

pushing former frontrunner rasta rocket into fifth place.

Shane: There's the pizza.

Daniel: Oh, man that's just what we need.

Man: You guys ordered pizza?

Shane: Yes, sir. I appreciate it, thank you.

Man: Pepperoni. Shane: Heck yeah.

So big it'll barely fit through the door.

Zack: Big pizza.

Dave: Two pizza's, we getting down.

Zack: Man. Maybe this will make us feel better.

Last year was way better than this year as far as the weather goes.

Daniel: We got to take the good with the bad.

The weather will return and we'll start killing fish.

Zack: We know we can catch 'em.

All we got to do is just get that mojo back.

And the damn wind to quit blowing.

(laughter)
