I met him months and months and months ago once

‐ The officiant says her name, Amelia,

and suddenly it all comes racing back,

and I realize, "Oh.

‐ [laughs] ‐ Amelia's family and friends

would like you to know that Amelia

is the kind of person that will give you a $10 bill

for Christmas and somehow make it feel

like the well thought out, personalized gift.

[laughter]

Amelia loves peanut butter,

so as her future spouse,

you're gonna need to store extra peanut butter

in unused thermoses

and Tupperware to support her habit.

Amelia is sunshine bottled up in a loving, warm embrace.

Amelia is a free‐spirited wildflower

that lets the wind take her where it may go.

She is always up to an impromptu adventure,

which has obviously brought us to where we are today.

Amelia, Bennett's family and friends would like you

to know that he has compassion for all beings,

living and non‐living,

including trash cans and other household appliances,

whose humanity is usually overlooked.

Bennett won a student government election

by bribing voters with milk.

His slogan was, "You bring the votes,

I'll bring the milk."

[laughter]

His sense of humor is profound and contagious,

and he has an incredibly kind

and exceptionally generous nature

that will make him a first‐rate life partner.

[upbeat music]

Now, Bennett and Amelia, you have written your own vows.

‐ I'm gonna need to do a little bit of revision on the fly,

since we've met. [both chuckling]

I stand here with you

on the precipice of our new life together,

having no idea what shape the future will take,

since up until now I've had no idea who you are.

I promise to affirm you whole‐heartedly,

to shower you with abundant love

whenever the impulse strikes me.

I will never censor or restrict my feelings of affection

in order to elevate or protect myself.

You are someone I've met,

but you are now my partner.

like, pretty much blacked out the whole time,

'cause he's such a cutie pie. Whoa!

‐ I remember when we met before at Mary's house.

months and months ago,

when we had a very brief conversation.

I was very impressed.

I feel like there was one other time.

Did you ever come to a show

that my band was playing?

I think I remember, like, talking to you and Mary.

Yeah.

We have a mutual friend.

Her name is Mary,

and I met Amelia through that mutual friend,

but I happened to me in a relationship at the time,

but I was like,

"Wow, this is someone who's, like, pretty...cool."

‐ What else do you like to do? [laughs]

‐ I like to, uh, make theater, make music.

‐ Cool. ‐ I like to bike.

‐ [gasps] ‐ Um, I like to‐‐

‐ I love biking. ‐ Yeah?

‐ I just finished med school. ‐ Cool.

‐ I'm really excited about that.

I also play music.

‐ What kind of music do you make?

‐ I play lots of instruments, but mostly guitar.

So I like just writing songs

about things that are happening in my life,

like‐‐maybe, like, about this.

‐ I think the experts did a phenomenal job.

I don't feel a very real attraction

to a person that often,

and this happens to be someone

I've noticed in that way before.

I really don't like being by myself.

I want to start my life with a life partner,

and I've never been more sure about anything in my life.

Like, the wedding or reception?

‐ Just to see if there's, like, that initial chemistry.

'cause I like that initial spark.

The day is finally here, and, um,

it's just a lot of nerves,

a lot of emotions just bottled up inside,

but it's here, and it's about to happen,

and I think I'm ready to marry a stranger.

to prepare myself for this moment.

It's a step that I want to take.

So I guess time will tell, but, um,

I'm as ready as I'm gonna be.

Hey, Mom and Dad. How's it going?

They had to put hairspray in my hair.

I don't even look the same.

‐ I wouldn't have done it, if I was his age,

'cause, you know, it's, like, taking a big chance,

and that's really not his character,

'cause, you know, this isn't planned,

but, uh, I'm‐‐I'm happy for him.

I hope it works out.

He's got a journey going on right now.

This was a huge risk for me.

I mean, it would be for anybody,

but this is the most outside of my comfort zone

that I've ever, like, stepped.

I'm not a risk‐taker by nature at all,

which I think holds me back in a lot of different ways,

but, you know, to meet somebody that I could spend

the rest of my life with has always been a goal of mine.

So I think, um‐‐ I think it's worth it.

‐ This is a lifetime, you know, what he's doing here.

Everything changes when you get married.

So it can be a journey of a lifetime.

but until I really get to know him,

I've been single for two years.

I've worked really, really hard to become a man
