- Meet Paige, a beauty influencer

who was looking to get a stylish short press and curl

for an upcoming work event.

So she found Rosalind, a beautician who she believed

could achieve her desired look.

But after Rosalind picked up that hot comb,

things quickly went south.

- When she went to take that hot comb

to the back of my nape, she did burn me.

And it was ultimately a second-degree burn.

- Paige wanted a short press and curl like Rihanna,

but what she got was a huge burn and hair loss.

- It completely destroyed my hair.

- Paige's business relies on her having natural hair.

So, unfortunately, she lost a chunk of her income.

- She messing with my livelihood.

She messing with my money.

I can't work looking like that--

with a bald spot in the back of my head.

- Desperate for some answers, Paige reached out to us

to help get her hair on track

and confront this beautician that burnt her scalp.

Tamar has been someone who has had many different styles,

and she's still so fierce, and I feel like Tamar

would definitely be the one to help me feel confident again.

- I was telling him a little bit about your story,

but there's some things we're unclear about.

What happened?

- So I had a hair disaster. I went to see Rosalind.

She's a licensed beautician,

and she specializes in natural hair,

and that's what I was looking for.

- Okay. - My hair was fine.

I had reached lengths that I didn't think I could,

but I was trying to get prepared

for a 10,000-subscriber party. - Okay.

- I have a YouTube channel,

and I have hair-care sponsorships

and brand endorsements,

so I really wanted to look polished and sleek

and have my hair professionally done.

So I went in, and I wanted curls.

And Rosalind had a full house,

so she couldn't pay as much attention to me.

And she got the blow dryer going,

and then she goes to proceed with that hot comb,

but my roots were still damp.

We started in the nape area, and that first sizzle,

she burned me severely.

- Wow. - What?

- I came in hoping to get a press out

and a stylish short haircut like Rihanna.

And instead, I ended up with nothing

but some burns, hair loss, and a bald spot.

And it wasn't till I got home that I felt

the brush going over a scab.

- [gasps] - Oh, no.

- It really was a blister.

- I'm not shocked. I mean, she had wet hair.

If you apply any high heat to something wet,

it's gonna create steam.

And because she was so close to her scalp,

it's gonna burn and blister.

You don't even have to touch the scalp

for it to burn with a hot iron.

- What? You don't?

- No!

- Whoo, Lord Jesus! - Oh, wow.

- Oh, my God! - A very horrible bald spot.

- This is a really serious burn.

You couldn't even wear no ponytail--what did you do?

- Braids, covering it up.

- Yeah. - Hiding it.

I've spent thousands of dollars

to help hide the damage that's under it all.

And now I don't have hair-care sponsorships

and brand endorsements for natural hair-care products

because I'm hiding under weaves, extensions,

and sew-ins.

So, financially, this is a setback.

- She didn't say, "Well, can you come in, let me see"?

- No. - Wow.

- Wow. - No.

- And that's a problem, 'cause that's your business.

- Yep.

The weaves and wigs is hot. And glue--

- You ain't got to tell me. - Of course, of course.

- Burnt up, boo, you know?

And I'm a woman of a certain age, so that's--

- Ooh!

Did you call me old? - [laughs]

- [imitates laughter]

It ain't your age, it's your face, okay?

[scoffs] And I look younger than you.

- [scoffs] Okay.

- So I just want to be able to relaunch my brand

with my natural hair. - Yeah.

We're gonna make sure you walk out of here

feeling like the 10,000 eh-eh popping girl that you are,

'cause that's such a huge accomplishment.

- Yeah. - [laughs]

- And while we talking about emotions,

we gonna get to the bottom of this hairdresser

and why she was so emotionless

and not present for her appointment.

Baby, do we have our work cut out for us today, okay?

Paige's beautician burnt her scalp off, okay?

Made her pay and caused her to lose her coin!

- Listen, when you affect the coins, it's a major problem.

We're determined to get Paige some answers

and the outright apology she deserves.

We tracked down her beautician, Rosalind,

and invited her to the salon.

She thinks she's interviewing for a chance

to work with Johnny, but what she doesn't know

is that Paige and I will be in the surveillance room,

listening to every word.

I'll be feeding Johnny information from the back,

while Paige and I watch their every move

on our hidden cameras.

Now it's time to bust Rosalind.

- Hi, welcome.

- Hi, I'm Rosalind. I'm here to see Johnny.

- How does it feel to see her? - Shocking.

- She look the same? - She changed her hair.

- She look like auntie, I'm scared, too, now.

- Paige came to us after her press and curl

with her stylist, Rosalind,

turned into a shortcut with a large burn and a blister.

To get her some answers, we invited Rosalind

to come into the salon for what she thinks

is an opportunity to work

with celebrity hair stylist Johnny Wright.

Little does she know, she's about to come

face-to-face with the woman's head she burned.

[dramatic music]

- Rosalind? - Yes?

- Hello, I'm Johnny. - Hello.

- Nice to see you. - Same here.

- Come on back. All right, have a seat.

- Thank you. - Nice to meet you.

- Nice meeting you.

- So how long have you been doing hair?

- 37 years. - Long time!

- Yes. - Do you love it still?

- I absolutely love it.

- You do? That's good.

Do you work with a lot of natural hair or--

- Natural hair. - So what's her technique?

- Do you do extensions and all that?

- Yes, I do.

- What about press and curls and things like that?

- Not too much. - Okay.

How many clients do you take daily?

- 15.

- You can do that all by yourself?

- I did 15 on Sunday. - What?

Okay, now I see why Paige thought

she wasn't getting enough attention.

You got to have the proper team to help you with that.

When I was in a salon, I used to take 30 heads a day,

but I also had three assistants.

- Child, I'd be out of this salon, okay?

Look, I need my attention, okay?

- [laughs] You love attention.

- If they're getting a wash and blow dry, that's really quick.

And I can do 'em in 45 minutes. - And shampoo 'em and all that?

- Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm fast. - You real fast.

- Yes, I am.

- You ever wonder if you, like, move too fast?

- Well, they say I'm fast. I do everything fast, so...

[both laugh]

- She's not even paying attention to what she doing.

- She trying to throw you up under that dryer,

bring you up from under it, so it's like a rotation.

- You just want to get it done.

- I want to get in, and I want to get out.

- You got to get your coin. - I got my coins.

- And I got my third-degree burn, too.

- Yes, I did.

- I pulled up a few pictures of your work.

- Okay. - So tell me what we have here.

- Oh, that's the flex rod. She's all natural.

- All natural? - Yes.

- Beautiful. Here?

- All natural, just cutting.

- Oh, you really do a lot of natural hair.

- Yeah.

- So you don't remember when you burned me and I jumped

But I would never lay a comb on your head like that.

- You did burn me with the comb.

- But here's the thing.

She said that her hair was still damp.

- And when you applied the pressing comb,

steam is what burnt her scalp.

- So now I know.

[tense music]

- Look, I get it.

It is so uncomfortable getting confronted this way,

but this lackluster attitude's got to go.

- Ooh, child, it does. This is not cool at all.

- I had an important event, and I lost my hair.

And I wasn't able to do my event

because my hair was ruined.

- I'm sorry, Paige. Nothing else I can say.

- I can't even handle a half-ass apology.

- Like, there's nothing else you can say, Ros?

Come on, now.

- Keep that. Girl, keep that.

- I mean, what do you want me to do?

- There's more.

- It was a little rah-rah, you know, your apology,

I'm just gonna be honest, Ros.

- I didn't feel like Rosalind's apology was genuine.

It was very lackluster, and it's pissing me off.

She legitimately doesn't care.

You done brought me way out here to embarrass me.

So how you think I'm supposed to feel?

- If I were you, if I'm working with a client

or if she was not happy, I'm going above and beyond for her.

You told me to put aloe vera gel on it and that was it.

- And I told you to come back. - I didn't want to come back.

- I wasn't trying to run from you about it.

I was concerned.

- Okay, hold up. I think I'm with Paige on this one.

It's no way I'm finna come back to your salon

if you done burnt me up like that, girl, no.

- She could've gave her the opportunity

to at least look at it and give her

some recommendations on how to heal it.

- She was gonna fix her burn or...?

- No, you can't fix the burn. - Well, there you have it.

Paige did the right thing.

- I was reaching for that one. I was reaching.

I tried to fight for you, Ros!

- We just brought her here and you here

because she just wanted you to get an opportunity

to redeem yourself...

so this will never happen again.

- It's an opportunity for us to learn together.

Are you open to that?

[tense music]

- I'm open. - Is that a yes?

- It's a yes. - Excellent.

- Right now I'm not too happy, but I am a great hair stylist,

I'm professional,

- Oh, well, Rosalind does admit that she likes to work fast.

But in this situation, that didn't work out for her.

So I think it's time to focus on being thorough

so we can eliminate any mistakes.

All right, let me show you how I section hair.

All right, so I'm just gonna make this

a little cleaner here.

See, this is what I'm talking about.

You rush the work, it can turn into messy work,

and messy work can lead into much bigger issues.

You got to be careful.

- Okay. - So this section is perfect.

So, to assist with efficiency,

I'm gonna show Rosalind this new, exciting tool

that's gonna save her time, and she will never experience

the situation she had with Paige again.

This blow dryer is a suction dryer.

It sucks all of that water out the hair

and, at the same time, makes the hair straight.

[dryer whirring]

Voilà. It's completely dry.

Once the hair is completely dry,

I'm gonna recommend using

an electric pressing comb instead.

The reason being is it has controlled heat.

Clean, dry hair should be straightened at a range

between 300 to 400 degrees,

depending on the thickness of the hair.

With a traditional stove,

where temperatures can reach up to 800 degrees,

the ability to gauge the iron's temperature

becomes a little limited.

The goal is to give Rosalind more options.

All right, so I want you to try it right here at the nape.

Go ahead and get that area right there.

Excellent. You got it?

- Got it. - All right, cool.

So do you want an opportunity to do Paige's hair again?

- Sure.

I'm worried about it being awkward with Paige

sitting in my chair again

because I don't feel comfortable.

But I'm going to redeem myself here in L.A.

and slay the hair.

- Go ahead and finish up,

- Johnny, there's hesitation

written all over her face, okay?

There is zero interest in doing Paige's hair again.

- Well, they didn't leave on the best terms

the last time they saw each other, so I get it.

will help her do-over go over smoothly,

because, remember,

Paige still need to look popping for her party.

- And it's up to Rosalind to deliver.

- So, was boot camp-- like, how was that experience?

- It was great.

I learned about this awesome blow dryer here.

- Okay.

Ros, I'm thankful that you are staying here

to help fix my hair.

I really appreciate it.

- It was difficult standing behind Paige,

doing her hair after the ambush.

- And hopefully, like, have an actual relationship,

'cause that's what I wanted from the start.

- I didn't want to talk to her at all.

- I'm happy that you came

so that we could, you know, fix this situation,

'cause that's what I wanted from the start.

[dramatic music]

- I feel a little unsettled,

but Johnny asked me to redeem myself,

so this is what I'm here for to do.

And I apologize...

for the damage.

And we'll see what happens.

You can't please everybody.

If a client is unhappy,

you have to work with them and be patient.

Therefore, I'm gonna do her hair.

I'ma make her look beautiful so she can go on to her event

and be happy with her bouncing and beautiful hair.

This thing is taller than me. - Wow.

[dryer whirring]

- Look at that! - Yeah.

- Looks great! How did it feel?

- Felt good. - Good, that's awesome.

And it's gonna preserve your curl.

That's the great thing about it.

And it's not a lot of heat on the hair.

- Right.

So let's go ahead and start pressing her out

so we can finish her up, okay?

- Okay.

[upbeat music]

- Whoo, what a roller-coaster ride this has been, child.

Paige started out recovering from a severe burn

and hair loss from a press and curl from Rosalind.

Now that they decided to be civil the best they could,

we're ready to rebuild Paige's new look

just in time for her 10,000-subscriber party.

I invited her good friend Cici to join us for this big moment.

- Hey, Cici. - Hey.

- Yay!

So did you hear about what happened to her hair?

- Yes, I did. She was in pretty bad shape.

- I think it turned out really good.

- Wow.

Cici, what do you think about her have her natural hair.

- It looks so good.

- Ms. Ros, you did that? - That's right, I did that.

- And you look absolutely beautiful.

- And I'm glad I was able to redeem myself.
