Jason, I told my family wewould be there Christmas day.

And we will be.

During the day. I'll go to Dubai that night.

Besides, when did youstart caring about Christmas?

My parents love Christmas, and I love my parents,

and you should loveyour future in-laws.

So we have to smileand drink the eggnog.

If you'rein Dubai,

when are we going to plan thewedding? That was our window.

When I get back.

It's been two years, Jason.

Two years and oneweek. Doesn't matter.

Surprise!

You're you!

Come on, thatwas good.

I finished my sixam Tokyo call early

and I have a breakfastin the neighborhood.

Oh, you fitme in between meetings.

Look, I didn't comehere to argue.

I just wanted tostop by and say hello.

This beast of a Christmasspecial is consuming my fiancee.

(laughs)

What the--

Oh wow. This islike we're in a

Christmas windowdisplay at Macy's.

I see you met yourco-anchor. We're gonna

put him on apple boxes like allgood Hollywood leading men.

Hi Jason.

How are you?

I gotta go honey. I'll talkto you later. Love ya.

Monica, staybeautiful.

It's too bad he's not the onewho gets to walk down the aisle.

Oh, thank you.

Well, you know what I mean,he's so effortlessly charming.

Monica, what did you doto my dressing room?

Programming thoughtit might help

to raise yourChristmas spirit.

This is payback for me cuttingthe shopping segment isn't it?

Hailee. We rely oncommercial advertising

from peoplewho rely on--

Shopping.

Tis the season.

Of giving.

Come on, Scrooge, you're on in five.

Ugh!

Who said red with green were agood color combination anyway?

Santa. And you are goingto look fabulous in it

on the ChristmasSpecial.

How about a lovely winterwhite, something flow-y--

White isfor brides.

Oh, thank you. Kickme while I'm down.

Sorry, but programming wantsred and green sequins.

What am I? Mrs.Claus at the prom?

If Mrs. Clausdid pilates. Then yes.

You might havenoticed the network

has committed a lotof money to this.

I know.

Give them Christmas, and you'llbe able to do whatever you want.

Like Easter andThanksgiving?

I cover Hollywoodnot holidays.

I'm right on this. It's not a step back.

Yes, and I'm thankfulfor the opportunity.

After today you're on hiatusfrom the morning show

so you can focus solelyon the Christmas special.

That's a plus especially sincethe bulk of the work is done.

Then rest. A little.and do me a favour,

when you plug the special,be more jolly less humbug.

Okay...

Make me proud.

I always do!

He must havementioned her.

The Jordan's area small empire.

They have theirhands in everything.

Apparently.

I meantinvestments.

Besides, she'll be ontoanother scandal tomorrow.

Everything is foreverwith the internet.

(tires screeching)

(crash)

Hey!

Define "okay?"

For starters, alive. Consideringwe're both lucky to be.

I am so sorry Ijust... I've been...

There was the phone, andthe text messages and..

Joe: TEXTING?!

In a motor vehiclethat's against the law!

No! I wasn'ttexting.

A text came in,not by me.

You hit my fence because youwere texting while driving?!

I didn't respondto the text.

I'll pay for all damages, justtell me how much it is.

I just built that fence--took me three months.

Not to mention the customizedChristmas lights on it.

Okay, I'll pay for the lightstoo. I'll pay for everything!

You can't put aprice on a man's time.

Look, Joe. Come on,it was an accident.

It really was. I didn'tmean to do it...

Who you calling?

The police.

The police?!Are you crazy?

This is a single-vehicleaccident?! I have insurance!

Is he out of hismind? Is he for real?

The man loves hisChristmas lights.

Excuse me. Hi. Sir. Hi. Iunderstand you're upset.

But I've already offered topay for all the damages, okay?

so maybe we should focus on the positive, alright?

That everyone's okay? AndI'll get my checkbook.

I'll write you a number.Just give me a number--

Are you bribing me?

I hate bribes.

No! No. Think of it as aprivate demonstration

of good will andholiday cheer.

She's right Joe. Besides,do you really want to

stand out here in the coldwaiting for the police?

What'syour name?

Anderson. HaileeAnderson.

Hey Johnny? Beck.

We're gonna need a towtruck at the Morris house.

Ms. Anderson. I'll beseeing you tomorrow morning.

What's that?

You're a judge?!

Fourth circuit,Windham County.

My chambers, 9 AM.

Beck, you come, too.I need a witness.

Be grateful he didn'tset up the nativity yet.

Ugh! Enoughwith Christmas.

Well, if that'show you feel,

you crashedin the wrong town.

HAILEE: You've gotta be kidding me.

Well, cow's alreadyout of the barn now,

nothing you cando about it.

Don't reduce my lifeto a colloquialism.

Considering you almost tookmine, I think I'm entitled.

Right.

Mmhmm.

I'm sorry aboutthat.

Apology accepted.

(truck honking)

There's your ride.

Good luck and stayoff your phone for a while.

Yeah, thanks.

Cow's out ofthe barn...

(mooing in distance)

Really?

Sorry but there's just nothing available.

I have a friend who works at the Four Seasons,

he told me hotelskeep spare rooms.

Does this look likethe Four Seasons?

It's Christmas, our busiest time of year.

Who comes herefor the holidays?

Friends, families-- you know, people from out of town.

You do know we're not allrelated in the country, right?

Besides, Christmasis only week away.

I've just had a really badday. And I only need the room

for like, ten hours, canyou just, like...

There's a bed and breakfastjust up the road.

They have a very goodTrip Advisor rating,

probably right up therewith the Four Seasons.

Great.

Thank you. That'svery nice.

โ™ช Snow is falling down just a little bit โ™ช

โ™ช The world's so quiet and still โ™ช

โ™ช Santa's out there flying around and it's true โ™ช

โ™ช That if you've been a good girl all year long โ™ช

โ™ช And the snow is like it will โ™ช

โ™ช While it's falling down โ™ช

โ™ช How can you be blue โ™ช

BECK: Yeah! Yeah!

Yeah we gotta getthat... fixed.

It's you.

It's you.

You ownthis place?

It's a familybusiness.

Well, the Gaslightwas full.

Yeah, James called. Saidsomeone was coming over.

It has notbeen my day.

Okay, how aboutwe start it over.

I'm Beck.

Like the beer withoutthe s, only not as smooth.

That was a prettysmooth introduction.

And you are?

Hailee Anderson.

Well, Ms. Anderson, welcome to our humble B&B.

I'd say your luckis improving.

Alright!

Ugh, honeymoonsuite.

I thought maybe you'dlike the jacuzzi.

You really don'thave another room?

It's the holidays, take itor leave it - your choice.

Oh. Uh, you know what,we can just get a piece of

tape and cover honey, call it the moon suite.

It's fine. Really. It's veryChristmas-ey in here, though?

That's partof the charm.

Is that whatthey call it?

Tis the season.

Oh, and I'll only chargeyou standard room rate.

Call it theAnderson special.

I don't feelvery special.

Oh, come on,everyone's special.

Tell me, Ms. Anderson,

do you always travelwith an overnight bag?

Hailee. And, yeah,force of habit.

When I first started journalism, a story would break,

you gotta be ready andon the scene fast.

I always kept an emergency one in my car.

Journalism. Livingthe dream, huh?

Oh yeah....

Okay, what is the... you havewifi, what's the passcode?

Oh, we don't have any.And there's no TV.

There is a phone, andif you dial zero

my mom will come runningand look after you.

Uh, okay. There'syour key.

Sleep tight, don't letthe bed bugs bite.

We don't havebed bugs.

That's simply anothercountry colloquialism.

Right...

Hey, Monica.

My concierge saysyou never showed up.

I'm freaking out.Where are you?

I'm in Carver Bend.

Carver what?!

Connecticut.

You're kidding.

Nope. I'm at a place calledYe Ole Bed and Breakfast.

Well, honey. Itwas a rough day.

I get it, but I saidrest not leave town.

We're a week away from the show,

Hailee, you've worked too hard for this.

Don't go having a breakdown onme. I need you in New York.

I'll be back as soonas I get out of court.

Whoa wait, didyou say court?!

I may have run intoa judge's fence

and Christmas light display. He wants to see me in his

chambers tomorrow at nineAM. It's kind of ridiculous.

Well, it's a Christmaslight display.

Throw some money at itand get back to the city.

Apparently people in Carver Bendcare a lot about Christmas.

Well, so doesyour network.

Just handle your business inMayberry and get back here ASAP.

Right.

Hailee, areyou okay?

Yeah. I'm fine.I just...

Listen, Monica, ifJason calls--

If? He's called here like abillion times looking for you.

Look, please don't tellhim where I am.

I really need some time andspace to sort things out, okay?

Right.

Good morning.

Thank you.

I feel like I'm inthe principal's office.

Well, at least it's nota real court room.

All rise for the honorableJudge Joseph Morris.

Really? Okay.

Be seated, please.

Ms. Anderson,I understand

you're willing toaccept a plea bargain.

Yes, your honor.

You're a TV reporter,is that correct?

Sunrise Brew.I'm a fan.

I didn't askyou Roy.

Yes your honor. I workin New York City.

What brought youto Carver Bend?

I wanted to take along drive and--

Her fiancรฉ was caughtcheating with Margo Jordan.

With no prior record, I herebysentence you to pay all damages

as a result of yourcollision with my property.

Thank you, yourhonour. I can do that.

And for the illegal use of acell phone while operating a

motor vehicle, I sentenceyou to a $100 fine

plus 25 hours of community service--

Five of which will be to redo myChristmas light installation.

Your honour, I wasn'tusing my phone--

Ms. Anderson if you want to goto a jury trial to prove your

"innocence" that you werenot using your phone--

Jury trial? Youcan't be serious?

Yeah, Ithink he is.

You also need tofulfill those 25 hours

before this court closes for theholidays in exactly five days.

Okay, okay your honor, I amwilling to accept punishment,

but community service,I can't do that.

I have to be back in New York.I'm hosting a Christmas special

on Christmas Eve,it's a week away.

There's gotta beanother option.

There is. You can spendthat time in our jail.

You're notabove the law.

Margo Jordan needs to gether behind back in church.

Do you mind? Please?

If you'll tell me where Ican get an orange vest

and pick up trash forthe next 25 hours?

You don't have topick up garbage.

I think I have an ideathat can help you.

Do I stillget my pic?

No tweeting.

What are you doing in Carver Bend--

...sentenced to communityservice at local art center

for crashing intoa judge's fence?

I still can't believe you cangive me service hours.

What areyour skills?

I could teach an on camerabroadcasting class?

How to pose onthe red carpet?

How about your brushcleaning skills?

Oh, really?

What's that?

Category Christmas.

For $800, a decorated platformand a component of many parades?

What is afloat, Alex?

It will be. We'rea bit behind.

When is thisChristmas Parade?

Christmas Eve.

And you want me todo what exactly?

Help build it.

That's six days fromnow. I'm not a wizard.

You need hours.

And you need a miracle, whichis not in my wheel house.

Alright well uh, I'll driveyou back to the city jail.

Wait, wait!

(phone ringing)

Fine. I'll workon your float.

Quality hours.Not TV hours.

What's thatsupposed to mean?

I painted a set once fora television commercial,

and I rememberwatching them work.

There's a lot of sittingaround, waiting, eating...

Oh, you were on a setonce in your lifetime?

And you're insinuatingthat I don't work hard?

No, I'm just saying this isgonna take hard, efficient work.

Not red carpet.

Okay, youknow what?

Wrap yourself in spanx andsilk, add high heel stilettos

and then stand there, cheerfullychatting up celebrities

for twelve hours, and then letme know what hard work is.

You'll fit injust fine.

Christmas Eve is less than aweek away. I'm not an expert

but you need a miracleto transform this flatbed.

You didn't happento pack a miracle

in that bag ofyours, did you?

It was thator the hair dryer.

Right.

Well, this float has to be themost amazing Christmas float

any parade hasever seen.

And why is that?I smell a story.

Follow me.

About ten years ago, awealthy socialite named

Karen Middlesworth movedhere from the big city.

She was a big believer in thearts, and she got upset when

she found out that schools werecutting art from their budget.

So she opened this youthcenter as a non-profit.

A human intereststory. Go on.

She never actuallybought the building.

She just leased it from thecity for a small fee.

And now, the city council"visionaries" think it's

a better idea to sell it forprofit than renew our lease.

What aboutthe kids?

After several petitions theyat least gave us the chance to

purchase it, but that deadline is the new year.

Something theyconveniently forgot

to tell us untila few days ago.

Buy the buildingfor how much?

$30,000 for the downpayment on a mortgage.

Do you haveany money?

Well, the Middlesworthestate's gonna put up half.

Okay, so $15,000by the New Year?

You're asking foranother miracle.

Ah, but a doable one, ifwe're the winning float

in the annual Carver BendChristmas Parade.

First prize is $15,000.

Children.

I'll introduce you.

Alright.

Beck: Hey, guys!

OMG!

Dude! My momwatches you.

I love your show--

my friends and I had a redcarpet party and I played you!

Yeah, and at the Oscars, you were totally ho--

Hailee, these are my teamleaders, Kelsey and Zach.

Ms. Anderson is going tohelp us with our float.

Is this a joke?

No. She's doing researchfor a Christmas special--

I'm doingcommunity service.

That, too.

No way.

Yeah, way.

It's public record. ZMT alwaysfinds public records. Why lie?

What didyou do?

Ran into JudgeMorris' fence.

She wrecked it.

Dude, that's sick.

So we're yourpunishment?

Uh, yeah.

This is fate!

Your endorsement willtotally lock us first place!

We have tobuild it first.

You ready?

Yeah. Uh huh. I just needto call my producer

and explain athing or two.

Use the office. It's a bit quieter.

Let's get started.

Come on guys, let's get to work.

(dialing)

So, locked here, and we'vecome up with some great--

(phone ringing)

Hey... "mom,"yeah one second.

Sorry, uh. Family. Holidayemergency. Usual.

Do what yougotta do.

Tell me you're in thecar, on your way here.

Not exactly.

Hailee! Programming'sasking about you.

We need you herefor rehearsals.

I can't.

Excuse me?

I kind of have twenty-five hoursof community service that

I have to completeby Christmas.

For wrecking someChristmas lights?

No, for texting and driving, which I'm actually innocent of.

Obviously not.Just pay the fine.

No, that's notan option.

The judge is trying to make an example out me.

You're killing me.

A piece of me literally dieswith every phone call from you.

I'm living the nightmarebefore Christmas!

You are? I'm the onestuck in Pleasantville.

I found this sort of art center place

where I can get my hours, get it over with.

I'll do it this weekendand be back by Monday.

The other option, by theway, is me going to jail.

Do you really want me toget a mug shot at Christmas?

No no no. Real Housewivesof New Jersey go to jail.

Teen moms go to jail.

The network brass is alreadyrattled by this Jason thing,

the last thing we need is themworried about your legal issues.

My legal issues?!

I didn't rob a bank. This isJason's fault, not mine.

He's the reason I'mhere to begin with.

No, you're the reasonyou're in Carver Bend.

We need damage control.

I'm going to put you in touchwith the network's PR person.

You guys can come up with astatement to tell the the press.

Something likeyou're fine,

and working on theChristmas special.

Monica, no. I don'twant to do that.

Everyone is worriedabout you, sweetie.

And your absence isnot helping matters.

Please, helpme out here.

Fine. I'll makea statement.

Good.

I'll buy some time, but thenetwork is running promos

every ten minutes, so no moresurprises, Hailee, promise me.

I promise. I'll seeyou on Monday, okay?

Thank you, bye.

What areyou doing?

Oh, I'm sorry. Ijust dropped these.

I've been meaningto clean up.

Oh. Sorry.

Are those yours?

Uh. Yeah.

Let me see!

I love thelittle birdie.

They're amazing.

She's pretty.

There's someonehere to see you.

Me?

Yeah, he's outside.

Oh. Thanks.

Are youkidding me?

No. No no no no no, nothere. How did you find me?

ZMT had a picture withyou with Barney Pfife.

Hailee, this whole thing,it's a misunderstanding.

Which part? You andme? Or you and Margo?

She wanted todiversify her portfolio

with some real estateinvestments. Thats it!

I was just brought into close the deal.

Is that what you weredoing? Closing?

Yes, I was! I mean, itgot a little bit friendly

but that's howyou close deals.

Absolutely nothingis going on.

You know what's odd? The partwhere you got "friendly"

with Margo Jordan, the biggestreality star in the world,

and you didn't thinkyou should tell me.

She's a flirt. Alright? You'reblowing this out of proportion.

I have work to do.

Oh, I heard. Did youactually hit a fence?

You know what, Jason?I want you to go. Go.

Because I want to do mycommunity service in peace.

Fine, but I'm not givingup on us, okay?

Unbelievable.

Everything okay?

Wonderful.

We're makingSanta's workshop,

but instead of just making toyswe're making wishes come true.

Hailee: And uh, what are those?

Those are theChristmas wishes

of all the childrenin the world.

Well, I mean, they'resupposed to be.

Yeah, we'll have them suspendedwith wire or yarn and they'll

hang down while the Claus'swave to the adoring crowd.

And what kind of budgetare we working with?

Zero.

Pardon?

We're usingrecyclable materials.

We plan to turntrash into treasure.

We've becomepretty good at it.

Yeah, they callit "upcycling."

From trash?

And you think that's goingto be enough to win?

Uh... Hailee, can I just talk toyou in private for a second?

Okay, I realize that you've hada tough couple of days.

But they're kids.

They need positivereinforcement, encouragement.

You need a Christmas miracleto even finish this float let

alone win first prize.I hate to break it to you,

but there's no such thingas Christmas miracles.

You don't reallybelieve that, do you?

Yeah, I reallybelieve that.

Christmas isabout commercialism.

That's why the mall extendstheir hours during season.

You know what? We'regoing to go for a walk.

There's a couple Iwant you to meet.

Does this counttoward my hours?

Sure.

Okay.

Hey, Mr. and Mrs.Parker, how are you?

Lovely, dear.

Good, Beck,yourself?

I'm good. I'd like you to meetsomeone. Hailee--

Anderson. She'son TV dear.

Is she famous?

Yes!

If you're not in a World War IIdocumentary or It's A Wonderful

Life, I'm afraid there's notmuch chance of me seeing you.

Why are we here?

I want them to tell youabout the turtle doves.

They're lovebirds, really.

The Christmassymbol for eternal love.

I didn'tknow that.

Yes, every ChristmasEve for fifty-two

years, this one herehas brought me one.

I have Carver Bend's bakery make'em up special just for my love.

Two cookies shapedlike turtle doves.

Is that right?

Really.

Isn't that whatChristmas is all about?

Presents?

Love, dear. Christmasis love in action.

A divine day full ofsharing joy and peace.

Nothing warms the heartand serves the soul

like the loveat Christmas.

The lucky oneskeep it year round.

Alright, we'llsee you later!

Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas.

Bye.

Beck: So, you still hate Christmas?

I like the Parkers.

If you like the Parkers, then you like Christmas.

I just can't believe he'sbeen bringing her

turtle doves forthat many years.

That's a good story.That's romantic.

That's humaninterest.

He really loves her.It's inspiring.

Love usually is.

You're gonna needsupplies for that float.

I'm not a miracle worker,but I'm a fantastic shopper.

Is that so?

Mhm.

That guy earlier--

Jason?

And if you don't want to talkabout it, I'll understand.

No, it's okay.

The kids werefilling me in.

You think therumors are true?

The journalistin me says

hearsay is not areliable source, but...

Where there's smoke,there's fire.

Sometimes, it'sjust smoke.

When I was a kid, I wantedto be Diane Sawyer--

a serious journalist whoin her private life has

an amazing guy, twokids, a dog and a cat.

That sounds great.What changed?

The newschanged.

Networks werebought by studios,

studios were bought bypublishing giants,

and somewherein all that somehow,

the news got lost, andinfotainment emerged.

I was no longer a seriousjournalist, I became the

Hollywood minute girl, and now Ihave my own Christmas special.

You know, most people wouldthink you've made it.

You think I'm aspoiled brat.

No! No I don't. I think maybeyou're like the news.

You know. Lost.

You ever just feel likenothing's in your control?

Sure.

I mean between Jason, thenetwork, the show

I just want to be in thedriver's seat for a change.

I think that's why I just gotin the car and started driving--

And then crashedinto a fence.

If it's any consolation,I'm glad you did.

Why's that?

It's like a cardinalin the winter.

It's cold and desolate, greyand then all of a sudden

there's this life, thiscolor. It flies in and puts

a smile on everyone's face.Shakes things up.

Yeah uh, I don't thinkeveryone's smiling.

This isn't New York, and it sure isn't Hollywood.

This is Carver Bend.

And in Carver Bend, youare in the driver's seat.

Yes I am. Which is whyyou are going to let me

donate these suppliesto the center.

Can we getthese items?

Thank you.

If there's anything Ican do for you.

You know what, actually. Isthere a local paper?

Yeah. Actually, mymom's a contributor.

I hesitate to use theword writer, but yeah.

Can she could do an interview?I need to make a statement.

Let merephrase that.

My producer andpublic relations team

are forcing me tomake a statement.

I have to warn you then, she's a bit of a character.

She lacks a filter.Of any kind.

So I don't knowwhat she may say.

I warned you.

So the drawings in your office are pretty good.

Did you study to be an artistor did it just come naturally?

Both, I guess. I dida year at the Sorbonne.

You werein Paris?

Oui. I know it'shard to believe

I've been anywhere other thana monster truck rally--

I didn't-- that's not what I--I didn't say that.

I was there on scholarship for ayear until my dad got sick.

Then what?

I was hoping to go back, but after he passed away,

I couldn'tleave my mom,

and then I got involvedwith the Art Center.

And how does the woman in thedrawing figure into all this?

I'm a journalist,what can I say.

Karen Middlesworth'sdaughter.

I fell head over heels forher, and she broke my heart

when she left town with with atravelling art installation.

That's how you gotinvolved with the art center.

Boy chasing girl.Same old story.

Maybe, but it's stillvery, very romantic

that you left Paris andthe Sorbonne for love!

Or incredibly stupid,but I wasn't about to

abandon my momor the kids.

Sometimes the broken roadslead to the best destinations.

Yeah. Maybe they do.

That is either a very warmchild or the Michelin Man.

That's Kelsey'slittle brother.

What's up,little man?

Charles, this is--

Hailee.

I'm Charles, but everyone callsme Jaws on account of they say

I like to talk a lot and myjaws are always moving,

but I just like to ask questions which I guess is the same thing.

What's your last name?Did I see you on TV?

Anderson and yes.

Cool. Do you loveChristmas movies?

I love Christmas movies.

Very cute.

Is that for you?You got a visitor?

That's the mayor. I'mbetting he's here for you.

If you think Judge Morris is small town,

wait 'til youmeet Richie.

Oh, goodie.

Ms. Hailee Anderson!Mayor Richard Braverman.

What a gas to have acelebrity like yourself in town.

I know Judge Morris is'ntexactly the Welcome Wagon,

but we couldn't behappier that you're here,

at Christmas no less.

Oh, well, thankyou Mr. Mayor.

Mister Mayor, why don't we havea Christmas film festival

right here in Carver Bend?We could show classics

and new ones. I havedozens on DVD--

I'll look intoit, Charles.

Beck, how's thatfloat coming along?

It's a work in progress.Hailee's helping us out.

Part of mycommunity service.

I don't think the artcenter is the best match

for someone withyour talents.

You told her we're shuttingit down, didn't you?

Not if we have anything tosay about it, Mr. Mayor.

C'mon Beck. Have you beeninhaling paint fumes?!

They've already raised half themoney needed to buy the place.

Once theywin first place

in the Christmas parade,problem solved.

Right.

Ms. Anderson, I was hopingto treat you to lunch

while you're in town--perhaps today?

We're all excited about yourupcoming Christmas special.

And as Mayor I can reducesome of your service hours

to time served in exchangefor maybe a mention of

a couple of our local businessesin your broadcast.

You coulddo that?

Perks ofthe office.

Whaddaya say?

That's a very generousoffer. I appreciate it,

But I'm not above the law.I'm fine to serve my time.

The offerstill stands.

Here's my private cell in caseyou change your mind.

Good luck with keepingthat float... Afloat!

Look, I can understand if youwant to accept the offer.

I'm pretty sure my producer'shead would explode.

Cool!

Come on,let's go.

Hey Zach, Kelsey? There'sa bunch of bags of art supplies

in the back of the truck, you mind grabbing them?

Yeah, all donated by thelovely Hailee Anderson.

Thanks, Hailee.

Sweet!

Go give them ahand, buddy.

Thank you.Come on, Jaws.

Look at this guy, he'sseen better days.

Did he go to the samedriving school as you?

Oh, you're really funny.Look at you. Making jokes.

Okay... letthere be light.

Or not. It's broken.

No, hang on. Maybeit's just one bulb.

You replace theone bad bulb,

and everything elselights up again.

Okay, thatsounds tedious.

Well, it can be, but it couldbe fun if we do it together.

Because I'm afun and charming guy.

That's a goodsales pitch.

Yeah?

I'm up for thechallenge.

First one tofind the bulb...

wins hotchocolate. Go!

Oh, you're on.

Ha! I found it! I foundit! In your face!

Okay, I want myhot chocolate now.

I told you, everythinglights up again!

I don't think I everstood a chance.

I just can't believe howit's all coming together.

Seriously, you know how tomotivate your team, don't you?

Well, at leastthey're learning

how to make somethingout of nothing, right?

Lemons intolemonade.

Or I guess more appropriately, the eggs into eggnog.

I love eggnog.

Well you mightbe in luck.

Really?

Well, we don't have anymore hot chocolate.

Kids drank it all. But Imay have an emergency

supply of eggnog in thefridge. Minus the alcohol.

I don't know...

Okay. Throw in some nutmeg andmaybe I'll call it a deal.

I can do that.

I'll get a couple glasses, thenI want to show you the view.

The view?

Wow. This is like yourown personal gallery.

These are amazing.

You shouldn't keepthem hidden away up here.

It all used tobe my studio.

Now, it's just a place where paintings go to die.

I haven't been uphere in a while.

Why? You'revery talented.

I just lost thepassion for it.

Artists needinspiration.

And where didyours go?

I dunno. Life. My dad, mymom, my ex, this place.

I didn't want to paint justfor the sake of painting,

I always felt like I needed tobe moved, to feel something.

To needto do it.

Look, this isn't why Ibrought you up here.

Oh. Why amI here?

Oh, that's...beautiful.

Yes. Yeah,it is.

Does the art centreown the land?

No, it's bankowned.

I'd love to get myhands on it.

all the green space forthe kids to enjoy.

It's the prettiestin the winter.

I come up hereand I look at it,

and I call itChristmas Country.

See, with the trees allfrosted like that,

and the birds look likedecorated Christmas trees.

Yeah, it kindof does.

You should see it at night whenthe stars peek through. It's...

Like a Christmasdream?

See Christmasisn't all bad.

You don'thate Christmas.

I di-- I don't-- no, Idon't hate Christmas.

I used to loveChristmas.

What happened?

One year, all I wantedwas this pink bike.

I convinced my mom and dadthat Christmas would be ruined

if I didn't get it.

And you didn'tget it?

No, I did get it.

What I didn't realize wasdaddy had lost his job,

he was laid off, money was tight.

We couldn'tafford it,

so my Mom went to thechurch donation center,

and actually founda pink bike.

On Christmas you would havethought that bike was for her,

I mean, she was so ecastatic. The next day I was

proudly riding my bikearound the neighborhood.

Then I ran into KellyAndrews, the rich,

popular brat, youknow the type.

Apparently she had justdonated her pink bike.

The same one that mymom got me for Christmas.

Kelly thought it would be funnyto get all the kids together

to make fun of me, theycalled me Handout Hailee.

and I was traumatized, Inever rode the bike again.

It crushedmy mom.

Kelly Andrewsis a jerk.

Your parents wanted you to have a great Christmas.

Because theyloved you.

That's what Christmasis all about.

Christmas is about making peoplewant thinks that they can't

afford, things thatwill be forgotten in a week.

After I found out what Iput my parents through over

that bike, I felt soashamed, I've so much guilt.

You werejust a kid.

That's heavy stufffor a kid to understand.

But look, no, Christmasisn't about "stuff."

It's about theexchange of love.

Fair, it can come in the formof stuff but it also comes in

carols, eggnog or even cookiesin the shape of turtledoves.

I hate you to miss thebeauty that Christmas is.

I'm hosting a liveChristmas special special

to ten of millions of people--I can't miss out on it.

They can let youinto their homes,

but you have to letthem into your heart.

Hailee, want to help me put together the stained glass?

You're being paged.

Coming!

Ho ho ho!

It's the originalMrs. Claus!

Hi, Mom.

Sue Ernst toldme your students

need some stufffor the North Pole.

These were just collectingdust in the attic so I thought

I would bring themover and help out.

You shouldn't be carryingall this with your bad back.

Oh, it was a shortwalk from the car

and I had one of the kidspull them from the attic.

Just helping, huh?

Can't a motherhelp her only son?

Mom, how did youhear about Hailee?

Could Imeet her?

You can do onebetter than that.

You caninterview her.

For theBugle?

For theBugle.

I heard about it on thenews you know.

That Margo floozie stoleher fiance! Poor thing!

She must bedevastated.

Don't bring anyof that up, okay?

If she wants to talk about it,fine, but go easy on her.

Fluff piece.

Ooh, my specialty.That and obituaries.

She's even prettier in person.

Lovely figure,good with kids,

look at how they have attached themselves to her...

she would make some man awonderful partner if he were

open to hearing such thingsfrom his mother--

I'm not.

Come on.

Hey guys? Check it out. Mymom donated a few things

we might be able touse for the float.

Why don't you guys go throughthat see what we can use?

Sure.

Hi, Hailee, I'm WendyThomas. Beck's mother.

I'm a huge fan. Iadore your style.

So classy-- except forthat monstrosity they put you in

for the Globes-- I meanwhat were they thinking?!

They weren't.

If you knew themyou'd understand.

Beck says you want to beinterviewed by the Bugle.

Yeah, I just need to makea quick statement saying

I'm keeping strong underthe circumstances.

Men can beso foolish.

My late husband,God rest his soul,

and present company excluded,but I don't know, I certainly--

Mom, why don't we do theinterview later today?

We know whereHailee is staying.

Don't getsmart, Beck.

Hailee, why don't you come downbefore dinner for a cider,

and we'll whip this interviewoff, have some dinner,

and I'll make sure you'rein our morning edition.

That's sounds great.

Goodbye, Mom.

Goodbye, my shockinglystill single son...

Wendy Thomas,everybody.

I warned you aboutthe filter, right?

Subtlety isn't herstrong suit.

Yeah, she's cute.

Hey, why don't we headover to Judge Morris',

work on that lightinstallation?

Really? You'regonna help me?

Oh no. I'm just going for thefree show and review your work.

I'll take thatanyway.

You haveany ideas?

As a matter offact, I do.

Eggs intoeggnog.

It's really great, I can'tbelieve you did that.

We did.

So, Hailee, what do you want to talk about?

You're really going to interviewme while we make cookies?

Not just Christmas cookies.Mama Thomas' Holiday Delights.

Don't worry, it's all ontape. Like Watergate.

So, what do youwant to talk about?

Well, Mrs. Thomas,I honestly--

Oh, Wendy,please.

And while you're talking, couldyou roll out that dough?

Sure thing.

My producers want me tosay something about Jason,

honestly, I don't reallyknow what to say.

What are youfeeling, dear?

Calm, oddly.

I shouldn't be, but Ifeel fine. Strong, even.

Well, let'sgo with that.

The UnsinkableHailee Anderson.

I don't knowabout that.

Why not? It workedfor Molly Brown,

she got her ownmusical out of it.

Mind you, the CarverBend dinner theatre

couldn't even sink the Titanic.

So, Jason...

Yeah, I don't want totalk about the relationship.

I just want to say somethinglike, it's a private matter,

I'm just trying tofocus on my work.

Not work.Christmas.

Semantics, I know, butone is sympathetic,

the other makes youa workaholic

like my late husbandPatrick, god rest his soul.

Mind you, he stillfound time for Christmas.

Okay, concentratingon Christmas.

What's your favoritememory of Christmas?

I don't reallyhave one.

Well, mine's theparade, of course.

That was my Pat's idea. He loveddressing up like the Claus's.

We used to even goto local hospitals,

just to bring alittle cheer.

Aw, that sounds really nice.

Wait, Kelsey said theyneeded a Mrs. Claus.

Why don't youdo it anymore?

It's time for the nextgeneration to take the torch.

Besides, I had my fun and nowmy back just won't take it.

Anyway. That's enough about me. What about you?

Your turn. What do you rememberabout past Christmases?

Off the record. My familyand I, when I was a kid,

we fellon hard times,

and basically the church had togive us Christmas one year.

Why wouldn't youwant that printed?

Because my parentsdidn't tell me about it,

I found out, and whenI talked to my dad,

he was soembarrassed.

I was also beingpicked on at school.

It was not a veryMerry Christmas.

Can't you rememberanything happy?

Well, yeah, actually. Itwas the same Christmas,

but it was a moment that I kindof reflect on once in awhile.

Christmas carolers came to ourhouse and we opened the door,

My dad took my hand andwrapped his arm around mom,

It was just... I hadn't seen himsmile like that in awhile.

You know? Hewas beaming.

That's it.

What?

Everything.

That was like myworst Christmas ever.

And maybe, just maybe...it was your best.

Christmas is about love, dear. That's the best present of all.

All we have to dois open it up.

How you doing?

I'm good.

Glad to hear.

I adore yourmother to death.

Okay.

She had mebaking cookies.

I haven't baked Christmascookies since I don't remember.

Well she's um... I think she'sa big fan of yours, too.

And speaking of, she suggestedwe go look at Christmas lights

it's gonna be another houror so before dinner.

I mean, ifyou're game.

Absolutely.

Yeah? Alright.

You are anartist.

I haven't been calledthat in years.

You know that makesyou my muse?

Oh really?

Yeah.

Uh huh.

My inspiration.

Well Mr. artist, wouldyou care to take a selfie

with your muse in frontof your creation?

I think weshould.

That's so cute.

Are you crushingon Beck?

No. Why? Did hesay something?

Don't worry.

Your secret'ssafe with me.

Whatcha doing?

Turtle doves!

Yeah. Call it my odeto the Parker's.

What better exampleof eternal love

than Santa and Mrs.Claus, right?

Right.

Need some help?

Yeah. Grabthis smock.

There's some paint. Paintwhatever you want.

Aright, let metake this off.

Any woman who puts up with ared velvet suit all year round,

well, that's gotta beunconditional love.

You'd think there'dbe a line drawn in the sand,

but not forMrs. Claus.

I like watchingyou paint.

Your strokes are veryVan Gosh-esque.

Deranged?

Passionate.

Oh! I'msorry.

Oh, you're sorry?

I'm sorry,I'm sorry.

But you're laughing.That's okay.

You look like--

What's that?

(yelps)

I think I missedsome down here.

No you're not,no you're not.

(laughing)

You needmore colour.

What?! Oh yeah.

Truce! Truce!

(laughing)

Am I interrupting?

Actually...

I was hoping to have aword with you, Beck.

Like they say-- art isin the eye of the beholder.

That's beauty.

Can wespeak in private?

There's no need to bore Ms.Anderson with city business.

What's up?

You're gonna have tolet this thing go.

Hyperion's made a cash offer on the art center,

and the property next door, and the bank wants to sell.

Let it go.

Nice to see youagain, Ms. Anderson.

Hey. Areyou okay?

Someone put a cashoffer down on the center.

Not just the center, but theproperty next to it,

Which Richard made clearthe bank is eager to sell.

So what doesthat mean?

We can't get intoa bidding war,

let alone competewith a cash offer.

So, even if youwin the parade?

We're stillgoing to lose.

Maybe if the companythat wants to buy it

knew how much the artcenter means to the community

they'dpull the offer.

What are we going to domarch down to New York City

and beg Hyperion Enterprisesto buy somewhere else?

Hyperion?

Yeah, you heardof them?

Hyperion isJason's company.

Jason...your Jason?

My car's stillin the shop.

I need to go to New York.Give me your keys.

Where'syour truck?

It's out front.

Okay, cool.

Jason!

Hailee?

Hyperionis buying

the Children's Art Center inCarver Bend, Connecticut.

You have tostop this!

I can't just stop amulti-million dollar

real estate acquisitionfor no reason.

Why not? Deals fallthrough all the time.

The paperwork'sbeen signed.

Money has beentransferred.

I personallynegotiated this deal.

Then you canpersonally stop it.

I can't do that!

Jason, youlove me?

Yes.

You canstop them.

I know there's other real estatein Connecticut you can go after.

Just out of curiosity, why areyou so attached to the place?

If you met the people-- Beckthe guy who runs the place,

the kids-- it's special,you'd understand.

This is another one of yourhuman interest stories isn't it?

Yeah, and it's oneworth fighting for.

Hailee. I've already lostyou once, I don't want

to lose you again.I'll do it. For you.

I'll withdraw my bid.

Thank you.

You're welcome.

So does this meanthat all is forgiven?

Did I do theright thing?

Honey, I don't know ifJason is Mr. Wonderful,

but I do know our viewerswant love at Christmas.

Heart, notheart-break.

Right.

Do you want to getback together with Jason?

I don't know.

You metanother guy.

What? No.

Yeah, kind of.

Kind of?

It's nothing. Really, Imean-- it's nothing.

You do not soundconvinced.

Do,you wantmy advice?

Don't answer that, I'm goingto give it to you anyway.

Carver Bend islike a vacation.

Everyone you meet onvacation is great,

but that doesn'tmake them the one.

It's a break from reality.We don't live on vacation.

You're right.

You can't throw awaytwo years on two days...

Yeah well, I have tofinish my hours,

and I have Beck's truck so Ihave to get it back to him,

but I'll be here tomorrowfor the meeting in the morning.

Thought you'dforgotten about us.

Not a chance.

Richard called. Hyperionpulled their bid!

You did it!Thank you!

But, you don't seenas happy as I am?

I'm gonna missthis place.

You'll be back.

I mean you foundus once, right?

Yeah.

Woohoo!

You're the best.

You're like asuperhero, Hailee.

You gave usChristmas.

Thank you. Thanks guys. But you still have

a Christmas paradethat you have to win.

When like...?

Hailee's right. We gottafinish this float,

Christmas isin four days!

Too bad yougotta miss it.

Yeah.

I better go.

(phone ringing)

Kelsey?

Zach?

They went on a hotchocolate run.

Coming, hang on!

(phone ringing)

Art center,Beck speaking.

Hi, Richard.

What?

What do you mean? What are you saying?

Huh? No.

We never had achance did we?

What's going on?

It's the mayor.

It's not about business. It's about people.

Richard, look. Don't--

Yeah. Yeah.

An investment capitalgroup called Apex

stepped in afterHyperion backed out.

The city's determined toconvert to commercial space.

What aboutthe parade?

Let's win it.

Let's go outwith a bang.

Win for the sakeof winning.

Why? We'restill losers.

No. We're notlosers, Zach.

We might lose the center, but we're not losers.

I am so sorry.

It's not your fault.

Tide was cominglike it or not,

and we-- I appreciateeverything you did.

Come on, guys.

Just-- don't leave.

I couldn'tsleep last night.

What's this?

Merry Christmas.

I don't knowwhat to say.

Hailee, youinspired me.

To fall in lovewith painting again.

That's the best Christmasgift I could ever ask for.

Thank you.

It's incredible.It's so beautiful.

God bless brokenroads, right?

They lead to thebest destinations.

Zach, Kelsey, I have to go.

You're leaving us?

I really wish I didn't haveto, but I gotta work.

I thought for sureyou'd stay for the parade.

I know, I want to sobadly, but I can't.

I gotta be back to New York.

Kelsey--

Whatever.

Let her go.She'll be okay.

It'll all beokay, right?

I have seen the latesttracking numbers

and we're expecting to expandour demographic, which means a

very large audience for "Merry Christmas from Manhattan".

We have three taped segmentsand the rest will be--

A Christmas parade!In Carver Bend.

Where?

Connecticut.

I don't understand--

We're switching thingsup-- right, Monica?!

How about that?!

The title is gonna be"Merry Christmas

from Manhattanto Main Street."

You didn't getthe memo?

No.

I wanted you toexplain, Hailee.

For all of us.

Well, I felt the showas originally conceived

was missing something,missing heart.

The heart ofChristmas.

The heart ofChristmas!

Yeah! And communityhomespun traditions

and of course a good oldfashioned Christmas parade--

I mean, that's what viewers wantto see during the holidays.

Of course we'll have a tapedsegment about the city,

but I think, how nicewould it be to see

small town celebration of theholidays first hand.

Right there fromMain Street.

So we will broadcast livefrom a Christmas parade!

"Manhattan toMain Street."

Why didn't Ithink of that?

Brilliant!

Thank you!

Well, we won't keep youaway from your work.

Next time I see you willbe live on Christmas Eve!

Yes! Just over forty-eighthours from now!

Can you imagine?!

Very exciting.

Should be a MerryChristmas for us all.

It should be aChristmas miracle.

Have you lostyour mind?

Maybe, but Ifound my heart.

And viewers like heart, that's what you said.

I have a crew hired, a stagebuilt and you want us to uproot

everything in less thanforty-eight hours to film

a Christmas parade in theboonies of Connecticut?

It's about something,it's about people.

Who are committed to somethingimportant and don't waver.

The art centerneeds me.

Is this about the artcenter or that guy?

It's about giving back. It's about Christmas.

I want to prove that no matterwhat, Christmas finds it's way;

not just in our homes, but into our hearts.

And... go.

So, join me as wewish the world

a very Merry Christmas fromManhattan to Main Street!

Hailee Anderson's coming totown, better watch out!

Come watch the Christmasparade with me!

What's better? Coalin your stocking

or a Hailee AndersonChristmas Special--

I'm goin' with the latter, but that's just me.

I'm Hailee Anderson and I'm coming to Carver Bend

for the Christmas Parade.

(yelps)

Hey.

Hey.

How are you?

Good.

So who didthis painting?

Oh, Beck.

Beck?

Yeah, the guy fromthe art center.

It's great, isn't it?

What is this, you gotwinter wonderland

coming out ofyour head?

Christmas Countryactually.

What's going on?Are you okay?

Yeah.

(sighs) No.

Another company steppedin when you backed out,

I'm hoping if I getsome attention to what

Beck's doing at the art center, that it'll change things.

Well, I have a surprisethat might cheer you up.

What, like aChristmas present?

Remember when I said I had to goto Dubai on the twenty-sixth?

Yeah...

I don't have to go.

The Sheik hasinvited us

to cruise the Mediterraneanon his luxury yacht!

Who gets tospend Christmas

on a yacht with abillionaire, right?

We leave as soon as youwrap the Christmas special.

My family, Jason. Wetalked about this--

Don't worry about it. This is aonce in a lifetime opportunity.

Your parentswill understand,

we'll spend NewYears with them.

(phone buzzing)

Tell you what, why don't wecelebrate over lunch.

Give me just a minute.I'll be right back.

Ready to go?

Apex is a subsidiaryof Hyperion.

Hailee!

You're a liar.

I am not a liar!

I have this lobbyistconnection who says the

state's gonna put a highwayright next to that property.

I'm not gonna walkaway from a gold mine

because kids needa place to paint.

Well, you shouldwalk away from this.

You needto leave.

It's aboutbusiness!

It's about people.We're done.

Wow. You have no ideawhat you're missing.

โ™ช We wish you a merry Christmas, โ™ช

โ™ช And a happy New Year โ™ช

โ™ช Good tidings we bring, to you and your king โ™ช

โ™ช ...good tidings for Christmasand a happy New Year โ™ช

What?!

I didn't even know youknew the words to that.

Who are you and what haveyou done with Hailee?

You wanted me to beChristmay-ey. I'm Christmas-ey.

I know, I'm just used toScroogey McScrooge-a-lot.

Oh, is thatwhat I am?

Well, you were.

Mhm. Okay.

Are you trying to tellme you weren't?

We'll ask Beckwhen you meet him.

I'm excitedabout that.

โ™ช We wish you a merry Christmas, and a happy New Year โ™ช

I'm drowningin velvet.

Hailee's notgoing to approve.

What are you talkingabout? You look great.

You should really follow her onTwitter and Instagram, Beck.

And why is that?

Because she's--

Back! Hailee'sback!

Well, I see now.

What?

I want one forChristmas, too.

Guys, let's get as much ofthis stuff as possible.

Is that a digital camera likeJames Cameron used on Avatar?

It's Christmas Eve.

Don't you have a bigspecial airing.

It had achange of venue.

Really?

I thought our audiencewould like to see

how Main Streetcelebrates Christmas.

You're filmingthe Parade.

And with yourpermission, I'm gonna do

a story about the kidsand the art center.

Hopefully get yousome support, maybe.

Ah. Humaninterest.

It's aboutpeople, right?

Can I get a close-up?!

A close up? Yes, you'regetting an interview!

Yes!!!

You too Kelsey.

Wow!

And Charles. You have tohelp film. Go, go, go, go!

Things you dofor kids right?

Yeah (laughs)

Let's go wina parade!

Thank you!

(reading to selfunder breath)

The art center segmentturned out really well.

The kids gaveoutstanding interviews.

Especially that Jaws kid? He'sa star! I'm grooming him.

And we got some great B-rollof the paintings upstairs.

Oh, amazing. Thankyou for doing that.

Well, you were rightabout this.

By the way, I checkedout the competition.

And so far I'm seeingsnowmen in pick up trucks.

You certainly gave ourlittle town exposure tonight.

Well it was mypleasure, mister mayor.

Sorry I didn't have time toplug your businesses.

Tell me, what does your fiance,Mr. Keppler think about

you giving so much supportto the Art Center?

Especially in light ofhis keen interest

in acquiringthe property.

Of course youknow Jason.

What kind of kickbackhe's paying you?

I am just ahappy seller.

Jason made a generous offeron my property next door.

Provided the art centercame with the deal.

Beck said that property'sowned by the bank.

Well, what do youexpect from an artist?

He's not muchof a businessman.

You know, the art center'snot sold yet, mister mayor.

In another minute, those kidsare going to be $15,000 closer.

No, they're not.

What?

I'm not one to let afew scorecards come

between me andmoney in my pocket.

Apex has offered topdollar and then some

for that deal to gothrough, and I'm not

going todisappoint them.

The property acrossfrom the art center?

He owns it,not the bank.

He stands to make a wholebunch of money in the sale.

The kids neverstood a chance.

You don't have any proof,it's just hearsay.

Oh! Actually,we do.

Turns out your mayorbroke set rule #1.

Never speak into a micunless you want to be heard.

My mic was on?

Yeah, it's all on tape. That'swhat I was trying to tell you.

Bribing thejudging committee,

that's not conduct becomingan elected official.

Could really hurt hischances of re-election.

Maybe we should pay JudgeMorris a visit after Christmas?

Oh yeah. JudgeMorris hates bribes.

He really does.

There's one more thing. Can Isteal her for one sec?

Hey, you guys listen. We're still winners, okay?

Now I am proud of eachand every one of you.

Apparently while wewere broadcasting,

affiliates across the countrywere inundated with calls from

people who want to donateto the art center.

Monica set up akickstarter fund,

and we have raised$264,000 and counting.

(cheers)

And they want to know wherethey can buy your paintings.
