my old truck,

and in one bad week,
he got pulled over for speeding

and he got into
a little accident.

But I don't want to fix
this truck with stock parts.

I want to upgrade it.
So today we're gonna show you

how you can fix up a fender
bender incident problem

by yourself without
involving insurance.

in the shop today
resembles once

what was matt steele's
trusty ride.

I mean, this thing was pristine
when he used to roll in it.

I did keep it
a little bit cleaner.

And now it looks
like a teenager's got it.

Well, you know,
funny you mention that.

It does belong to my son colton,
16 years old.

So I bought this brand new
in 2011, which is what it was.

And I gave it to him
around his 16th birthday.

He needed a truck.
He's my only kid, right?

So I wanted to have him
wrapped up in a lot of metal

just in case something happens,
and something happened.

But you know what?
And this is best-case scenario,

because when you get
a phone call saying,

"oh, there's a problem," that's
not gonna be a good feeling.

So if you're watching this
and you're a dad or a mom,

if you've got a kid, you know
exactly what I'm about to say.

It's about 6:45.
I get the phone call,

and the first thing
out of it, one,

I'm like, my kid never calls me
at 6:45 in the morning

on the way to school.
Two, to he's like,

"dad, we're on the side of
the road and we're all okay."

it's like, boom, everything
you're doing stops, dude.

You can't think -- you're like,
"what do you mean --

okay, that's good
that you're okay.

Now tell me
what the world happened."

right. Right.

And then that relief
turns to anger

and you cuss a lot.
I mean, that's what we do.

And like I said, this is best-
case scenario in that scenario.

You know what I mean? Parts can
be fixed and we can fix this.

So what is the game plan
for this truck?

I don't even
want to touch it.

The game plan was to keep
insurance out of the mix

and do a couple of upgrades
to the truck

that we wanted to do anyway,
right?

So this is
a great time to do it.

So hood, grille, bumper.
Yeah, pretty much.

Everything front --
a facelift, if you will.

I mean, if it was my kid's
truck, I put a big blower

out the hood, but I'm sure
this is gonna be fine for him.

Dad of the year.
Let's get to work.

you ready?
Yep.

So the first thing
that we did

was we sourced a local hood,
right,

and we put that on there,
made a couple of adjustments.

And this was what,
the third --

the third that we found?
Yeah. Yeah.

You would've thought we'd
be able to find a black one.

I know.
Match it up, but --

well, we did, but remember,
they were in almost

worse condition than
the other one was.

They were more accordion-esque
than we wanted them to be.

And this one's not perfect,
but it's pretty close.

And we got our lines
looking really good.

We do have that
smashed-up grille,

but, you know,
we'll worry about that later.

You know, there's just one
little tweak

we'll have to make here.

You see the line is nice,
we got to fitted right,

but on this side here, it's got
a little bit of a rolled edge.

We can get it off. We can tweak
that out in a few minutes.

Then we'll scuff this thing
down, throw it in a paint booth,

and colton will never know
the difference,

never know that this wasn't
a brand new hood.

Exactly.

Just tell him not to smash
in anything with it.

Well, I'll let you
tell him that.

He might listen to you
better than me.

That's how it is
with my kids.

Matt: Now, let's talk about
the prep work, right.

So you go in and you put
a little body filler in

in some spots
and you sand that down.

Then you go over that
with like a high-build primer.

You sand all that down,
then the sealer.

Then you sand all that down.

And now she's ready
for a base coat.

It's gonna be the best
looking thing on the truck.

So what he's saying is
basically it took

more than two or three minutes
to get this thing paint ready.

So rather than painting it out
in the open air like this,

where you're gonna get a bunch
of dust and debris in the paint

and ruin all that time
and effort you put into it,

we decided we're gonna pop up

our mobile environmental
solutions mobile paint booth.

Now, this is the little guy.

This is the 12x12
that we use all the time

for little projects
like this.

You plug it in, in a couple
minutes, it's up and ready.

And it's got a positive
cross-flow design

that allows
for great air change.

You're gonna get a clean-air
environment to paint in

no matter where you're at,
like out here in the driveway.

And when you're done,
you simply unplug it.

It goes back in a box
and doesn't take up

any floor space, man.

It is awesome.
It'll spoil you, I'll tell you.

Yeah, it is nice.
It's very handy to have.

Like you said,
for little projects like this,

it's absolutely perfect.
And they got big ones.

You could actually put
a helicopter in them.

Dude, you got to get
one of them.

Helicopter?
Yeah, for sure.

I mean, nice knowing you,
but...

Bruno, thanks for the hand
with the bodywork, dude.

I think the hood's
going to look good.

We got that prepped, painted.
It's drying.

Now we're ready
for the next step.

We come in here.
We look at the bumpers.

They need some help.
That's where these come in.

These are the n-fab
front and rear bumpers

that we got from truck hero.

I think they're gonna
look awesome.

Well, stock was not good enough
for my nephew.

That was clear.
I knew that going in.

So these, I think, have a whole
different aggressive look.

I mean, it's got that
pre-runner styling to it.

Something that you say,
"hey, I'm colton steele.

I'm coming at you,"
you know what I mean?

I mean, he wants to play
chicken with his friends,

he's definitely
going to win.

He's probably
gonna do very well.

Not that I would advise it,
but I mean,

you know, it's got
that powder-coated finish.

It's got that the brush aluminum
on the front and back.

You've got an ability
to mount

some led light bars
on the front.

I just think overall,
I like the appearance

and I like the fact
you kind of add onto it,

you know what I mean?
It's a one-piece design,

and there's no cutting
or drilling,

it simply bolts in
to the existing bumper mounts.

So all we really need to do

is get the old one
out of the way

and hope it's not
too smashed up.

This is definitely gonna be
a huge upgrade.

He's gonna love it.

I had to do a little --
I got it.

He wants to save this, right?
Save that, yeah,

for the --
you see the artwork?

I got to put a little
b-man on that for him.

Yeah, you got to sign that.

Now we can really see the --
the bumper.

All right. So that bracket got
pushed in a little bit.

-Sure did, sure enough.
-But you know what?

All this is where it was.
So that's a good sign.

That is an insurance claim,
you know.

So that's mounted up.

You want to see how this
is going to come together?

Yeah. Yeah.
I mean, we need to make

a couple last-minute
adjustments.

This will bolt in
like that.

But that'll be nice,
and that'll keep stuff

from kicking up in there.

That'll be good.
Keep a little debris out.

Yep. And then
take a look at this.

So let me just -- I'm just going
to just lay this in, right?

Yeah, that's cool.

So I mean, we've got to clip it
in and do all that, but.

Yeah, so that looks better.
Totally.

Like it.
I like that look.

It's coming together.
Looks good, yeah. Nice.

And we'll trim up
some stuff around here.

Clean it,
paint it black

to where it's not so visible,
because the truck,

obviously it's dirty,
some parts are a little older.

So once we get everything
trimmed up, just painted,

I think it will be
a little bit more unified.

so we got the whole front end
pretty much handled.

Now you can see we're going to
continue that look down the side

with these n-fab step bars
going back to the rear bumper.

It should look real good
and kind of have that flow

when we're all said and done.

But before we do this
and that,

we're going to shift gears
over to here.

Now this is the bakflip mx4
tonneau cover,

and this is gonna be
another nice addition.

Bruno:
You know, it really is,

because it's going
to allow him

to utilize his bed
and have everything safe

and secure underneath --
you know, prying eyes,

especially in the school
parking lot.

You never know
what you got back there.

You got to keep people
away from it.

And you know what's great about
this is, too, with a hardtop,

you can actually flip
this thing up

and actually stand it
straight up against

that back window.
Yep. Yep.

So he'll have full access
to his bed when he wants to,

and cover it up
when he needs to.

Yeah, you can flip it up.
You can still run

the four-wheeler
up into the bed of the truck

and you can head out
to the woods.

I want my nephew
to have options, dude.

Absolutely, dude.
He's a happy kid.

You know?
He should be.

Look at that, b. Boom.
I like it.

It comes with
the little clips there

so you can clip it down
and roll like this if you want.

But other than that,
you just boom, boom, boom.

Take it all way
down, baby.

Nice.
Oh, man. Ah.

You ready?

Dude, look at this.
It actually came out nice.

I think it looks great, man.
I like it.

Assembly -- real time
was like five minutes.

Yeah. Not too bad.
Tonneau covers.

Next, we have to get to this
rear bumper now, right?

Yeah, because that's going
to complement

the look of the front one.

So this should come along
pretty good.

Whole package, baby.
Yeah. Let's see what happens.

We're gonna get to that rear
bumper in a second,

but first, I want address
something that's kind of been

bugging me since
we pulled the front one off.

You learn really quickly
that the apple

doesn't fall far from the tree.

Colton likes to go off-roading.
And you know what?

I applaud that. That is great.
No matter how much his dad

tells him not to, like any other
16-year-old kid,

he's going to do
what he wants to do

and have fun along the way,
and that is awesome.

But we don't want to damage
the bottom of the truck,

the underside in the process
and have it rust out.

So when we get it up in the air,
what we're gonna do is treat it

with nhou's oil undercoating.

Now, what makes this
undercoating

stand out from the rest

is it actually penetrates
through rust

down to the good surface
of the metal.

At that point,
it blocks off moisture

and oxygen from occurring.

Well, when those two of those,
you get rid of them,

you can't have rust --
it simply can't occur.

The other thing we're gonna do
is also treat the underside

with the salt-brine eliminator.

So no matter what colton
rolls on there,

it's not going to stick
to the bottom of this truck,

especially those
hard-to-reach areas

where all those weld seams
come into place

underneath the door sills.

That's where rust
usually occurs,

those hard-to-reach spots.

With it protected, he can go
and have some fun,

not have to worry about it.

Dad doesn't have to worry
about it, I should say.

So now we're gonna get
dad underneath,

start undercoating
the underside of this truck.

ah! Yeah.

Man, it looks good, man.
It does, actually.

Nice job, buddy.
Hey, thanks, man.

You know what's cool
about this?

So I'm reading
the instructions from nhou.

You read instructions?
Yes, dude, I did.

And I can't believe
they put this in there,

but they're like --
don't quote me on this --

it says something like,

don't even worry about
cleaning the vehicle.

Just spray it on there.

I got to tell you,
if there was ever a product

made from my beloved son,
that would be it.

Bruno: Now only if you could
just do his bedroom,

it'd be perfect, right?
Oh, man, yeah.

Just clean the whole thing up
by spraying and hosing it down.

Matt: Nhou, do you have
products for children?

[ laughs ]

apparently they do.
Yeah, like this. Hey.

Bruno: And the thing is, dude,
it looks good too, actually.

Gives it a little bit
of a shine

underneath the underside
of this thing.

Yeah. A lot of the parts
actually look cleaner now,

so that's good, that's good.
Nice. Cool.

All right, so, hey, listen,
we need to take a break

and take a break from this truck
for a little bit.

And I wanna introduce you
to the '72

we were supposed to start
the show with.

Ah, yes, that one.
All right?

Yeah, I got
a little sidetracked.

Got a little carried away.
We'll get back to this in a bit,

but from one chevy
to the next when we get back.

welcome back
to "blasting with bruno."

in this installment,
we're gonna take a look

at this bed that we sourced

for our comanche
project vehicle.

Remember last season,
we were dustless blasting away

at the one that came
with that truck,

and we found that, well,
it wasn't usable.

The dustless blasting system
got away all the dirt and grime

and all the rust, and realized
that it was too much rust

and too many holes in it
for us to move forward.

So we've got this one sourced.

It's got some dings
and dongs along the way.

But we think that it is gonna be
a good, solid piece to work with

once we get
all the paint removed.

So once again,
we'll hit this one

with the db500 mobile s
from dustless blasting.

We'll find out
just how good it is.

We want to focus our attention

on the exterior sections
of the bed

because the inside of the bed
is going to get a bed liner.

So we really don't need
to blast that.

This machine holds up
to 20 gallons of water,

which should be enough
for a full day,

and 200 pounds
of abrasive material

allowed me to work longer
without stopping.

Whether you're blasting away
rust on individual parts

or cleaning something
like this bed for paint,

this method can save you
hours of work.

Well, the dustless blaster
made short work of this bed.

It knocked it out in a hurry.

And what it revealed to us
is what we were hoping to see,

that it looks better now
than it did with paint.

We'll get this thing
an epoxy primer.

It'll look as good as new,

and it'll be ready
for that comanche.

hey, welcome back to "truck u."
so on this side of the shop,

we've got ourselves this nice-
looking little show truck.

Our buddy roger,
he's in a local club here.

It's his '72 c10,

and he's done a lot of work
to this thing,

mainly beautiful
paint job about a year ago

with some nice
pinstriping.

Yeah, I don't even think
this paint job's a year old.

He picked the truck up, what,
two or three years ago?

Had a bunch of work
done onto it.

He's done a couple more things,
and he brought it to us

because on the inside
there's, what, some bezels,

a couple trim pieces,
maybe a seat cover,

but I don't know
why he'd want to cover that.

I think it looks great, man.
And then under the hood,

we got a new radiator
and some cooling fans.

So a couple of small things.
In keeping with that theme,

I think there's an upgrade
we can do on this thing

that'll kind of fit
both bill's aesthetics

as well as performance.

Matt: Well, he mentioned
wanting a new radiator.

So you kind of take
a look at that,

and this kind of
does not belong.

Right, we're not just
going to replace this

because we can do better
than all this.

You know, by integrating
something like this

we got from proform,
where it's basically

you've got a tight
little package for the radiator

and a fan all combined
into one aesthetically.

It looks awesome.
It does.

And second of all,

it's going to give you
an increased performance

because you're turning off
of the front of the engine

in terms of a fan
or an alternator

it's actually taking
power away

because you've got to take
power to spin it.

With an electric fan,

well, that's an increase
in horsepower.

And this is four inches thick,
and it's the only one

on the market
that's got the radiator

and the motor and the fan,
everything,

inside of four inches,
versus here under the hood

from the front of the radiator
to the back of the shroud.

That's probably
seven inches or so.

So this is gonna fit
in there.

And I think
you mentioned it earlier.

When you open up
the when you see this,

there's just a cool factor
on this, man.

It looks clean and nice.

Pretty cool, man, because
you know how I love cutaways.

And this is just basically one
that they cut the corner off of.

So you can see how the whole
system works right here.

Kind of neat. This was
a very good idea. I like it.

Now, let's get the old one out,
we'll get this new one in.

Yeah, this will fit
in there nicely.

matt: Not only does proform
have the universal mounts

like we have here
this afternoon,

but they've also got
direct replacement ones,

and they've got the conversion
radiators, too,

which is cool if you're doing
like an engine swap, right?

Dude, look at all the room.

Like, you couldn't do
this before.

Yeah, right?
Right? So that's cool.

So now all we have to do
is wire this thing up,

just a couple of wires
and plumb it,

and then probably put some
coolant in there, right?

-Yeah, buddy.
-Be a good idea, right?

And then we can --

got the screws
in my pocket, man.

All right, that's cool.
You're always ready like that.

Then we can finish this up
and get into the cab, right?

-Sounds good, man.
-All right, dude.

I like it.

This 1972 c10 is more of

a collector truck
than a daily driver.

So we want to make sure
the engine and fuel system

are protected
when the truck is put away

and not driven very much
before the next show.

What we suggest is using
zmax micro-lubricant

in the engine and fuel system
to protect it

while it's sitting
in the garage.

When the engine sits
for long periods of time,

moisture can find its way in
from the air.

This moisture can start
pitting engine parts,

which will cause these parts
to be poorly lubricated.

can't go.

When you leave
your last car show,

drive the car and get it up
to operating temperatures,

making sure you've done your
last oil change for the season,

So we got with roger

and we had him put together
a small list of things

that he would like to improve
inside the cab of this truck.

First of all
was this gauge bezel.

It's just old. It looks faded
out and a little bit beat up.

So a new one
will really spice things up.

Secondly was the steering wheel.
This thing is totally plain

and there's nothing else plain
about this truck.

So a new steering wheel

could really
make it look a lot better.

Next up was the seat cover.

Interestingly enough,
when I first saw this,

I was like, man, why does
he want to replace that?

It actually looks good.
Upon closer inspections,

he's got a bunch of holes
across the whole top.

And once you know
those holes are there,

that's all you look at.

So I understand now
why he wants to change it out.

Now, the cool thing
on the inside

is over here on the glove box.

He's got a whole collection
of these challenge coins,

which I'm assuming
come from his time

when he served
in the united states air force.

Out of respect for that,
I'm going to leave that alone.

I don't wanna do anything wrong
to screw that up,

so I'm just gonna concentrate
on the stuff

that he wants to change
and improve.

Speaking of all that,
we got it all right here.

It all comes from
classic parts of america.

There's the gauge bezel.
Take a look at that.

That thing looks brand new.

That is going to pop
inside of that truck.

I wanted a steering wheel
that looked a lot better.

Boom. Right there.
He's gonna have that, too.

That's going to look fantastic.

Picture that with the rest
of the truck.

Going to look awesome.
And here's the new seat cover.

Got the houndstooth in there.

The same original
classic design.

This looks better than that.

Like I said,
that one didn't look bad,

but this is nicer,
it's newer.

It's brand new and clean,
and no holes across the top.

This is gonna be
a definite improvement

on the inside of that truck.

I'm gonna start
with the steering wheel.

And here we go. All right.

So before --
or actually right after

we got the steering wheel
out of the way,

I had to reach up back in there
and undo that speedometer cable.

So that just pops right off.

Get some of these switches
out of the way.

Undo one plug,
and then this pulls right out.

So we'll plug
this new bezel in.

And one of the things
that we encountered

was that this particular vehicle
has a choke

right over here, right?

So this bezel didn't have
the hole for the choke.

So we just had to put
that hole in there.

Takes about a minute.
No big deal.

And then once
we are sliding that in,

that goes right over the choke.

And...Yeah.

There we go. Ah.

Now, look at that.

That looks great.
A lot better, for sure.

They did a nice job
on this one.

They did, but rather than take
the back off from the bottom,

are going to use the bottom
as a stand, so to speak,

to kind of make it easier
to maneuver

because to get the new cover on,
it's got to be a tight fit.

It's got to be something
you kind of

got to wrestle with
a little bit,

so it's like having
an extra set of hands,

keeping it attached
to the base

for the time being.

[ drill whirs ]

matt, you may be
asking yourself,

why are we standing out here
on such a beautiful day

in front of a truck
with a foam kit?

Yes, I was asking myself that,
actually.

Well, the owner called
us up earlier today,

I didn't tell you, and he asked
if we'd do him a solid.

Clean the truck up for him,
because he wants to go right

to a car show from there.

So, you know, he pays well.
He does.

I'm figuring, you know,
we do him a solid.

He brings us some more business.
So the easiest way to do it

is to use the mtm hydro kit 1
from veloci.

So some people
will take a pressure washer

to their vehicle,
right?

And other people are like,
"no way would I ever

take a pressure washer
to my vehicle."

but you want to still
get it clean.

Now this kit actually goes
from the pressure washer back,

including the hose,
the spray gun, everything.

Everything you need
is right there in the kit.

And it's a great way
to use your pressure washer,

but control the pressure
and get your vehicle beautiful.

Well, these guys have thought
it all way through.

I like that they give you
everything inside.

But all the little details,
man --

like this foam cannon itself,
it's got a patented nozzle on it

that allows you to do
all kinds of adjustability.

So you can adjust how much
air gets drawn in or not.

And that adjusts how much foam
or how thick the foam comes out.

You know, we can restrict
the amount of water you use

so you're not using
a ton of water to wash

the vehicle
and to foam it up.

It's got a head
on the front of it

where you can adjust the size
of the opening

as well as the angle --
if it's diagonal, horizontal.

I like it.
And do you notice a smell?

Yeah, I --
do you get that?

I think the smell is --

I put a little dab
right here. Smell it.

Well, if you did,
you smell great,

because this could be
honestly --

and I'm not just
saying this --

this could be
the best smelling car soap

I'll ever smelled
in my life.

I like to lather up with it
when I get home just for fun.

Dude, how could you not?
How -- mm.

Anyway. I get sidetracked.
It is cotton candy to a t.

It really is. That's
better than cotton candy.

All right,
I'll do the spray.

How much you fire up the...
I'm on it.

...Power washer, okay?
I'm on it.

of work done today

on two different trucks.

I mean, colton's,
the way it rolled in,

I think it's going to
roll out much better,

and he's gonna be
much happier

for getting in that
little fender bender

because, dude, it paid off
in spades for him.

Yeah, it did. It looks great.
Like you said,

we need to work on his
braking a little bit.

Yeah. Social distancing
in your truck, colton.

Keep that in mind.

When we talk about
other trucks,

this little show truck
right here, man --

kind of a little
show stopper.

You know, it's a little bit of
a sleeper underneath the hood.

And this little radiator,
I think, is gonna,

you know,
pay off in both in terms of

aesthetics as well
as overall performance.

I think the radiator looks good,
but then we move back into

the cab,
and you've got the new seat.

You've got the steering wheel,
the gauge bezel.

A couple little things, right.
Nothing too major.

Makes the inside look
a lot better.

But I will tell you this.

If this dude has
a show coming up

and it's strictly
for like a 1972 c10

with a new radiator,
homeboy's got it in the bag.

He is bringing home
the gold ribbon.
