Episode 9

Director Zhao,

Yue Rong Villa isn't as good as Leisure Hotel.

There's no banquet hall.

This conference hall,

is already the biggest venue in Yue Rong.

Why don't you

just make do for a night?

That's not an issue.

I appreciate your effort.

When I played games

with Jiao Yang when I was small,

that was how we decorated things.

Jiao Yang was super arrogant back then.

He wasn't cooperative at all.

Assistant Lin,

how's this?

Isn't this a romantic way to confess?

Yeah.

There's plenty of effort involved.

Director Zhao,

I wish that I were as brave and brazen as you,

chasing after someone you like

without regards for anything.

If you like someone, you must let him know.

This place

can actually be considered the first home for me and Jiao Yang.

Home?

Yeah.

When we were small,

we stayed here for some time.

Isn't the place where you stayed with the one you like

called home?

What's going on?

Assistant Lin.

Jiao Yang.

No.

Yan, what are you up to again?

How am I up to anything?

Have you forgotten what place

I base these decorations on?

These are the amendments made yesterday.

I think that this part needs to be amended again.

Does she have so many things to talk about to Su Cheng Jun?

Yes, yes. I do remember.

I knew that you wouldn't forget.

Jiao Yang,

I have something super important

to tell you.

It has something to do with our future.

Let's talk about what step to take next.

Alright, go ahead and tell me.

We still have a meeting to attend.

To make huge amendments.

It doesn't have to be huge.

It's like, we'll know what to amend at that time.

Yeah, in terms of some details.

Jiao Yang, I like you.

No, no, actually...

Actually, only this part needs to be amended.

Then let's go through it again.

This stupid woman.

Does she think that I'm invisible?

That will work too.

Yeah.

Jiao Yang,

I...

Alright, we'll do as you say.

Come, let's start the meeting.

Assistant Lin.

I, I...

Assistant Lin...

Assistant Lin, Assistant Lin...

All he cares about is Assistant Lin.

I decorated this place for nothing.

Now, the problem

is that the hotel staff refuses to cooperate.

There must be a reason for it.

So, the solution is very simple.

Find out the reason why they refuse to develop the villa,

and get them on our side.

If they weren't

so aversive toward you,

this would have been easier.

Considering the current situation,

I reckon that

they won't tell us the truth no matter what.

The year 2010...

Let's try investigating Tianya Club.

Yeah.

Some people may have

posted on the forum

to voice out their dissatisfaction.

If there's really a clash

between these people and the group,

I believe that we will be able to find it out.

But even if

we find out the reason for their aversion,

how are we going to convince them to work with us?

Win them over one by one.

This is great, Assistant Lin.

After working for me for so long,

you have finally shown some improvements.

Then, Assistant Lin and I

will win Chef Liu over today.

Manager Su, you talk to Ji Zi from the bar.

No way.

Why?

I... I. Because I...

Because...

Why don't Assistant Lin and I look for Chef Liu,

while President Jiao look for Ji Zi?

Manager Su is right.

Assistant Lin, what do you think?

I...

I think that Manager Su's idea is great.

Chef Liu obviously doesn't like President Jiao that much.

But Miss Ji Zi

would certainly be very happy if President Jiao

goes to talk to her at the bar.

Besides, Chef Liu is an artist,

and Manager Su majored in design.

I'm sure the two of them will find common ground.

How do you know that he was a design student?

My colleague told me.

Who was that?

It doesn't matter. Just go to Ji Zi's bar.

I'll head to the restaurant with Manager Su.

No way.

You're my assistant,

so you must be in the same team as me.

Chef Liu finds you old-fashioned.

He wouldn't buy what you say.

I don't care.

President Jiao,

as a leader,

shouldn't you assign the most

suitable people to solve

corresponding problems?

Don't you think so?

I agree.

I believe that someone who focuses on the bigger picture like

President Jiao wouldn't lose his professionalism

because of such a small matter.

In short, there are two key factors

to this mission.

Number one, trust-building.

Number two, finding the right timing

to solve the problem quickly.

Come on, let's work hard!

Let's work hard!

Let's work hard!

Yeah, let's work hard.

I called you here today

because I want to talk to you.

I remind you not to forget

this should have been your company to begin with.

Yue Rong Villa

is what your mother left you.

Don't you want all of this back?

President Li, by doing this,

what do you aim to achieve?

It's very simple, just do as I say,

and you'll get

what belongs to you

back from Jiao Yang.

Yue Rong Villa will be the beginning of your revenge.

As for me,

I just hate the sight of them bullying others with their power.

Manager Su, come over here.

Assistant Lin,

these are the daisies

I specially plucked just now.

I wonder if you like them.

How did you know that I like daisies?

They're pretty fresh.

I heard that Chef Liu likes drawing,

so

I specially went to pluck some daisies

for you to gain some inspiration.

You were asking Assistant Lin if she likes them just now.

I thought that you were giving them to her.

Based on my judgment as an artist,

from the aura you emanate

to the way you look,

you are a great match.

It's a shame

that you aren't together.

Chef Liu,

Manager Su has a girlfriend already.

Yeah.

About that,

I... I was just asking

Assistant Lin if she likes them.

If she does,

we can use them to decorate the dining tables.

The vase is already full,

but there are so many daisies left.

Why don't we give some to Assistant Lin?

Sure.

But I don't know

if Assistant Lin likes daisies.

Why do you want to buy daisies all of a sudden?

Have you forgotten again?

On our first date,

you gave me daisies.

On our first anniversary of being together,

you even gave me this

bracelet with daisy charms.

Beautiful girl, you certainly have good taste.

Daisies symbolize

deep-hidden love in the heart.

Your boyfriend must love you a lot.

Really?

That's for sure!

Assistant Lin.

Thank you, Chef Liu.

I'm just re-gifting what Manager Su gave me.

You should thank him instead.

Thank you, Manager Su.

I'm glad that you like it.

Chef Liu,

your cooking is really great

and you can draw well too.

It's such a pity for you

to work at such a lousy villa.

So what?

When I hold a pencil, all I want to draw is food.

But when I'm cooking, I feel like becoming an artist.

In the end,

no one appreciates my talents.

I've already arranged everything for you.

The rest is up to you.

For a very long time,

no one appreciated my talent either.

Someone else stole the proposal I spent all night on.

I was the one working overtime,

but he got the promotion instead.

I also used to think that

I would never find my way

no matter how hard I work.

But look,

in the end, President Jiao noticed me.

He gave me a chance

and brought me to Yue Rong.

As long as you don't give up,

people will definitely notice you one day.

I didn't know that you had such a hard time.

Being it hard or not

depends on if we have the determination.

But how many people

persist till the end?

Chef Liu,

I heard that you had drawn a lot of portraits

for the guests of this villa.

I feel that

you must have missed those days

when the place was full of guests.

What I can do about that?

It's just like the choice between making art and cooking.

I can only choose one

as my job.

In this world,

you can't have your cake and eat it.

I'm heading back to rest.

Chef Liu.

Give him some time.

I believe that he'll come round.

Give him some time?

I'm giving you time,

and waiting for you to defeat Jiao Yang with me.

I've been waiting for you all day, Boss.

How do you know that I'm coming?

Coming here out of the blue,

I believe that you want just a drink, right?

I'm not easy to deal with.

My lips are sealed tight.

Why don't we play a game?

For every shot you drink, I'll answer a question.

What do you think?

No problem.

You're prepared?

Come on, then.

Why does Manager Zhou

dislike me so much?

Several bosses came before you.

All of them either destroyed the environment around

or tried to dismantle the villa

in the name of developing the village.

Of course, he hates businessmen like you.

Yue Rong Villa has been closed for the past two years.

Why are you guys still staying here?

Because there's no other place

we want to be in at all.

Manager Zhou is a straightforward person.

He doesn't know how to suck up to leaders.

As for Chef Liu,

he hates making the same dishes over and over again.

Shan Shan is always sleepwalking.

As for me, I can't live without alcohol.

Even if we leave this place,

we wouldn't be able to find anywhere to go to.

Moreover,

the scenery here is nice, and we have a lot of freedom.

Every now and then, there are even sexy young bosses

coming here to have a drink with me.

Why would I leave?

Then why are you guys

insistent on chasing us away?

Duh,

because you're trying to fire us.

It's my turn to ask you a question, boss.

Yue Rong is such a problematic place.

Why are you insistent on developing it?

Because.

Yue Rong Villa is a place I want to protect.

You want to protect this place?

Miss Ji Zi, let me tell you.

My mum was an architect.

She had poured all her heart

and soul into designing Yue Rong Villa.

I stayed here with her when I was young.

I watched as Yue Rong Villa

slowly came into existence

from the blueprint she was holding.

This place carries

beautiful memories between me and my mother,

and I want to give it a new meaning

with my own hands.

I didn't expect you to be such a responsible man, boss.

Boss,

I'm really envious of your fiancee.

What fiancee?

Look at your reaction.

Don't tell me that you're putting on an act with Assistant Lin.

H-how is that possible?

We are truly in love.

In this world,

very little men are able to deceive me.

Why don't I make you a drink,

to test if you're lying?

Choose one.

Congratulations, boss.

This drink is called "Destined Lovers".

Boss, it seems that your destined lover

has really appeared.

But

usually people who choose this drink

would meet a woman who's like a demon.

Demon?

The base consists of two kinds of triple sec orange-flavored liquor.

This signifies an unexpected encounter.

Meanwhile, vodka signifies a lover who's hard to control.

That woman

might change your life.

And this change

might be good or bad.

Then, where is she now?

Heaven's secret mustn't be divulged.

Boss, come closer.

Come closer.

You might think she's far away, but she's actually right by your side.

President Jiao.

President Jiao, you're here.

Demon, go away!

Demon?

Have I done something to enrage you?

No.

I'm having a good chat here

with Miss Ji Zi.

Why did you come over?

I've just finished talking to Chef Liu,

so I'm coming here to discuss

ways to get you out of your forced marriage.

You don't have to care about that.

Shan Shan isn't my destined lover, anyway.

Destined lover?

What... What's going on here?

What a busybody.

It's none of your business.

Well, I'm going to sleep.

Good night, Miss Ji.

Why is he acting so strange?

He must've drunk too much.

Our young boss is adorable, isn't he?

Assistant Lin,

I'm really quite envious of you.

Envious? What's there to be envious about?

Let me tell you.

If you have a picky and

obnoxious boss like him

your lifespan would be shortened by ten years.

Miss Lin, your drink is called the "Wheel of Fortune".

Judging by your unhappy expression,

it seems that your wheel of fortune

had stopped somewhere

you don't like.

That's absolutely right.

I really dislike it indeed.

Miss Lin, you're a clever woman.

Since you can't change it,

why don't you enjoy the present?

My mum is mine,

and all these are mine too.

My destined lover is a demon.

Isn't my life a little too miserable?

Enjoy the present?

No way.

I'll have to return three months later.

I have to hurry up and complete the mission.

Ji Zi must have been bullshitting.

It's definitely bullshit.

Go and die!

President Jiao,

if you have something against this soft toy,

I'll throw it away for you.

This isn't right.

I'm the president.

Why the heck am I scared of her?

Give Wang Cai back to me!

Childish!

Just you wait!

I'm so pissed.

Ji Zi is right.

You're a demon...

A demon!

Throwing a soft toy like that, are you three?

So childish!

- You're still here. - I...

She really comes and goes like a ghost.

We better leave soon, or else...

Sorry, dad.

I'm still unable to find

your favorite althaea

and fulfill your dying wish.

Althaea?

A conservation park?

That's right.

Isn't this

Crosswaters Ecolodge and Spa

where we had visited for summer camp?

Yes, this hotel

is ranked one of the top 50 eco-resorts

by National Geographic.

At the beginning of this year,

the American Society of Landscape Architects even presented it

the Global Landscape Architectural Design Award.

It's situated in a valley

more than 500 metres above sea level.

Although the number of visitors is

restricted due to its secluded location,

it's extremely renowned, and it's very hard to book a stay there.

This shows that eco-resorts

is the consumer trend of the future.

We can modify this place

into an eco-resort.

Hong Yu Group might not

profit from it in the short term.

But from a long-term perspective,

whether it's for future economic benefits,

or for Hong Yu Group to

make a name for itself in local and foreign markets,

it would be tremendously helpful.

This way,

we can answer to the board of directors

without changing anything about this place.

Jiao Yang,

your suggestion is amazing!

I'll immediately contact relevant departments

and associations.

As long as we get official recognition and approval,

we can start preparing

to build an eco resort.

I have a question.

We have a plan now.

But what right do we have

to apply to become a conservation park?

I've come prepared.

You guys can take a look.

A rare plant,

Althaea.

Not only is the althaea a rare plant,

but it's also a level one nationally protected plant.

Aside from being very beautiful,

it also has strong medicinal properties.

This flower is very hard to find,

but I believe that

we'll definitely find it

if we work together.

No!

Jiao Yang, I don't agree with this suggestion.

Why?

Because...

Jun,

I'm your father's colleague from the Institute of Biology.

Unfortunately,

while your father was looking for the althaea,

he encountered a landslide

and passed away.

Dad!

No, Lin Miao,

why on earth are you against it?

President Jiao had also said just now

that according to the information he found,

The althaea

is an extremely rare plant.

They are very hard to find.

How can you guarantee that

we can find it within the limited time

that the company gives us?

President Jiao,

what Assistant Lin said does make sense.

Assistant Lin, if there is a will, there is a way.

How can you give up

before we even start looking for it?

Jiao Yang.

I believe that you'll definitely be able to find it.

No one is able to find the althaea.

Lin Miao,

are you looking down on me?

When my mum first started designing

and building Yue Rong Villa,

she heard from the residents nearby

that the althaea can be found in the mountains.

And Shan Shan's photo

happened to serve as proof.

To protect Yue Rong,

finding the Hibiscus Syriacus is our only way.

But all these are mere hearsay,

and no one has seen it before.

Whatever it is, I disagree

to spend time and energy

on a plan

with such a low success rate.

I object to this suggestion.

Lin Miao,

as my assistant,

why can't you offer me support?

It's okay if you don't want to participate in it.

Just wait and see, then.

I'll definitely find the althaea,

bring it in front of you and tell you that

I've made the right decision.

Let's go.

Here you go.

Thank you, Manager Su.

Assistant Lin, why don't you take a break?

I feel like being alone for a while.

Assistant Lin,

actually I feel that what you said was right.

It's not only time-consuming to look for the althaea,

but the chance of finding it is also little.

Even though President Jiao

doesn't understand where you're coming from now,

but we cannot fight an unprepared battle.

Then, what are you planning?

These two days, after conducting

an on-site investigation of Yue Rong Villa,

I made a proposal.

Rebuild proposal of Yue Rong Villa

The village of the villa is quite inaccessible.

If we only modify the place

based on what's already here,

it wouldn't really be meaningful.

It would be better to dismantle the existing Yue Rong Villa

and build a luxurious casino,

bringing in a new kind of revenue.

That way, this place might stand a chance.

Demolish and rebuild?

Yue Rong Villa was built by the chairman's wife,

and it carries a special meaning for President Jiao.

I'm afraid that he wouldn't agree to that.

Manager Su,

since you've already made this proposal,

why didn't you just tell President Jiao about it

in the meeting just now?

Assistant Lin, you've been in the company for a long time.

You know that when it comes to a proposal for such a big project,

aside from convincing President Jiao,

I'll also have to get the approval from the board of directors,

especially the chairman.

Considering my position in the company,

I'm afraid that it'd be hard for my proposal to be approved.

Worse still,

some people might think that I have ulterior motives.

Ulterior motives?

This is quite a complicated story.

I'll definitely tell you if there's a chance.

But we are racing against time now.

Our priority is to

help President Jiao to complete this mission.

Alright, Manager Su.

I'll go back and take a good look at this proposal.

You should get some rest too.

Alright.

Hello,

is the suggestion you made earlier still valid?

Thank you, but there's no need.

I'm not interested in being the director of

the marketing department.

I just want to remind you that

the limited time given by the board of directors

seems to be a little too lax.

President Jiao!

Wake up, President Jiao!

President Jiao!

Who's that?

There's a problem, President Jiao.

Yue Rong Villa is being sold.

What?

I absoultely disagree to Yue Rong Villa being sold off.

Jiao Yang,

you've been in Yue Rong for quite a few days,

but there's no progress at all.

During the board meeting this morning,

Chairman Li

openly questioned your capabilities.

He then said that

Some companies are willing to purchase Yue Rong.

The board decided that

if you can't present a new proposal

within a set time frame,

we would follow Chairman Li's suggestion.

Dad,

you know very well

what Yue Rong Villa means to me

and mum.

How could you agree to that?

Jiao Yang.

I let you go to Yue Rong

to prove your capabilities,

not to reminisce the past.

Yue Rong Villa has a special meaning indeed.

But we have to learn how to look forward.

Both your mother

and I

hope that you would grow up as soon as possible,

and be independent.

If you can't protect Yue Rong Villa today,

you wouldn't be able to protect Hong Yu in the future either.

Dad,

I already have a proposal on how to

develop Yue Rong Villa.

Give me three more days.

This time, I definitely won't

disappoint you and mother.

Alright.

-Jiao Yang! -Don't follow me.

Assistant Lin,

please follow him and check on him.

What are you doing here?

To tell me that I can't find the althaea again?

Didn't I say not to simply touch my stuff?

It's supposed to go here,

not there.

Stupid.

I'm stupid,

so when it comes to risky stuff,

I prefer to solve them using stupid methods.

Jiao Yang,

it's almost impossible to find

the althaea in such a short time.

Why don't we choose

a safer solution?

What safer solution?

Is this the better solution you were talking about?

Rebuilding it?

How is this protecting Yue Rong?

This plan will destroy it!

Jiao Yang,

I know that Yue Rong Villa

has a special meaning for

you and your mother.

But you have to be

more realistic.

The villa is old-fashioned and inaccessible.

There's no potential for tourism development around it either.

Even if we modify the existing place,

it wouldn't really be meaningful.

And the board of director wouldn't agree

to an unprofitable venture.

Do you want to watch

Yue Rong being sold off?

Since you know

how meaningful Yue Rong Villa is to me,

why are you suggesting that we rebuild it?

Lin Miao,

I don't mind anyone raising this proposal,

but not you.

Yes, Jiao Yang, I understand.

That's why I don't want you to be stubborn.

Does rebuilding the villa

mean that the beautiful memories between you and your mother

will disappear?

They won't.

But if you insist on looking for the althaea,

I'm afraid that you'll have to pay an unimaginable price.

I'm afraid that you'll regret it.

If I follow this proposal rebuild this place

until it becomes unrecognizable,

I'll really regret it.

You know very well that I must protect this place.

Jiao Yang, look at this model

why is it different

from the other models sold in the malls?

Why aren't you willing to throw it away,

even though it's already worn and falling apart?

You're just used to reminding yourself of people by looking at things.

Even if these things disappear,

would it mean that we don't miss people from our past anymore?

Why don't we rebuild them

to make them better in reality?

This is the best way to honor

those we care about.

You haven't experienced what I had been through,

so you don't know what the althaea

means to me and understand how I feel!

There's no need to say anything else.

Thank you for the proposal.

But unfortunately,

I don't agree with you

on this matter.

Now, I'm telling you as the project manager

and the vice president that

you don't have to follow through

the work at Yue Rong Villa anymore.

I'll ask Xin to get a car to send you back later.

Indeed, I don't know how you feel.

Jiao Yang,

do you know how much I yearned for a home

after I lost both parents?

Mum!

Mum!

Child,

your mum had terminal cancer.

We have already tried our best.

Alright, chairman.

I feel at ease after hearing what you said.

Don't worry.

I'll defintiely help President Jiao

to complete the mission in time.

See you.

Chef Liu, Manager Zhou,

I have something to discuss with you.

Oh, you found it.

This is my only photo with dad.

That field of althaea

is on a hillside that faces the sun.

It's the most beautiful flower in the world.

Shan Shan,

do you want to look for it?

She doesn't.

Shan Shan, come over here.

Uncle.

President Jiao,

the president just called,

and he has agreed

to the proposal to demolish and rebuild Yue Rong Villa.

Assistant Lin.

President Jiao is your superior after all.

Look at you.

Don't tell me that you're staging a rebellion.

Director Zhao,

the board of directors has already agreed to the proposal.

Besides, rebuilding Yue Rong Villa

is the best, fastest and most efficient choice.

Assistant Lin, I reckon

that you don't want to go through the hardship

of looking for the flower and that's why you found an easy way out.

Chef Liu.

Miss Ji Zi.

Manager Zhou,

after being in Yue Rong Villa for so many years,

you guys agreed to Lin Miao's proposal just like that?

I only side those who share my taste.

I have spent half my life here,

and no one had ever found the althaea.

You're probably buying time

and deceiving us with your proposal.

How about you, Miss Ji Zi?

I follow what everyone does.

But, boss,

to be betrayed by your destined lover like that,

I really feel bad for you.

What destined lover?

Shan Shan.

Don't you want to find

your father's favourite althaea?

I...

President Jiao,

all of us at Yue Rong are united,

so please stop trying to persuade us.

We at Hong Yu Group are united too.

There are only four of you.

But with Assistant Lin on our side,

there are five of us.

Boss,

shouldn't we listen to the majority?

Shan Shan,

althaea is the only connection you have with your father.

Shan Shan.

This might be your only chance.

Jiao Yang,

I...

What's with you?

Hurry up and take our side.

Shan Shan, don't listen to him.

Take Uncle's side.

Shan Shan,

you're already grown up.

You can make your own choice.

Don't be influenced by others.

Shan Shan,

I heard from Manager Zhou

that your father was a botanist.

Yeah, he was a botanist.

He brought me to many places when I was young.

But I was too young,

and I don't really remember.

After my dad passed away,

uncle brought me to the villa,

and I've never left this place.

Then, don't you want to

take a look at the world outside?

It's okay,

since Shan Shan doesn't want to lead the way,

we'll look for it ourselves.

As the project manager,

I hereby guarantee

that I'll lead my team

and find the Hibiscus Syriacus in 48 hours.

Xin and Yan, you guys come with me.

Manager Su, since you are good at paperwork,

stay here and keep in touch with the investigation team

while gathering information about the althaea.

Once we find the althaea,

we will contact the investigation team immediately,

and apply for a conversation park status for Yue Rong.

Let's go.

Assistant Lin,

President Jiao is so insistent.

Manager Zhou,

you mentioned that

there's only one way out of the villa, right?

President Jiao,

there's no information regarding the althaea on my side.

Jiao Yang, neither do I.

Could it be that it's just like what they said,

and no one has ever seen this flower before?

Director Zhao,

since Shan Shan

has a photo with her father as proof,

I'm sure that it does exist somewhere.

But we don't have any clue.

It would help to even

roughly know where the althaea is.

How are we going to look for it this way?

Are we going to search hillside by hillside?

What did you say?

I said,

are we going to search hillside by hillside?
