In season two, we spent a day filming

at this bike shop located in Little Five Points,

one of the hippest neighborhoods in Atlanta.

It's full of hardcore cycling enthusiasts,

so I had to really be on my toes to trick people

who knew a lot more about bikes than I do.

I can -- I can -- I can fix this.

Michael: Hey. What's up?

Man: I'm here to pick my bike up.

Oh, yeah. What's the name?

Conn -- C-O-N-N.

C-O-N-N? Yeah. Okay.

Just give me a second.

I'm just trying to get this little thing to, uh...

This thing does not work.

You don't know how to use these things, do you?

The magnetizer to, like, make tools magnetic?

Mnh-mnh. No?

That's all right.

Supposed to go in here, like that.

Magnetizes the tip of it

so the screws don't fall when you're working.

That'd be sweet if it worked. Yeah.

If it did, it'd be, like, pretty cool.

They'd be magnetized. Ow!

Whoa. Geez!

Ugh. That was huge.

That was ridiculous. It went almost up to your nose.

Did it really? Yeah.

I actually didn't think this trick would work.

It seemed a little far-fetched

and I barely had time to rehearse it,

but I gave it a shot at the very end

of our 12-day, and it wound up being

one of our favorite tricks of the season.

[ Clattering ]

All right, what were we looking at today?

I was, uh, wanting the shifter cables replaced.

Okay. Uh...

When was the last time you just had a basic tune-up?

Yeah. It's been a while.

Yeah. It's a little bit dirty.

I think that maybe these are getting gunked up, right?

That's what I was thinking, yeah.

Yeah. I bought the bike here and just haven't...

When did you get this?

Uh, '07, I think.

Oh, '07. Okay. Good.

When you first got the bike, did you change...

Now you might notice my fellow magic team member

Matt Schick behind this workbench in the background.

We didn't want the area to look completely deserted,

so we placed Matt here and had him wear headphones

so he didn't get involved in our conversation.

You have it all cleaned out and then start using the proper oil.

Yeah. As much as anything else, it's probably gunked.

Yeah. There's a valve right here.

A tiny, little valve.

Yeah. There was dirt. Oh, there you go.

Look at that. That's pretty dirty.

I never knew there was -- What? A valve?

Yeah. You know what we'll do?

We should just empty out the whole thing

and just give it a new -- you know, an oil change, really.

I didn't know it had a reservoir.

Oh, yeah. It starts up here.

It gets poured through here, and it's going in here.

It's going into your chains.

And every time you pedal,

you're actually pumping it through the bike.

I'll show you what you do,

and you'll never have to worry about this again.

Put your bike up if you can, or you can have someone hold it.

And just aim it directly down.

Mm-hmm.

Once it's down, you'll actually be able to feel it better.

It's a little easier to see when it's down, too, right?

Get a pan, get a funnel, and just --

There you go.

Oh, look at how dirty that is.

That's why. This should look really clear.

You know, this should be like vegetable oil.

Changing the oil in a bike? Yeah.

Yeah. It's the whole blood flow of the bicycle.

Yeah, if you don't change that, what's happening

is every time you're pedaling,

you're just pushing that dirty stuff through everything.

It's going into the gears.

It's going into the -- you know, the shifters.

Okay. Yeah.

Best thing to do is -- I'd say about every 500 miles,

you're gonna want to have that cleaned out.

It's just easier to start from scratch,

get it all cleaned out, and go.

You know, and then a lot of people come in

for a professional change, but you can use --

Like, they make bike oil, but you can use vegetable oil,

'cause a lot of these companies, honestly, they sell bike oil,

but it's just vegetable oil relabeled.

Do you go over a lot of hills and stuff?

Uh...[ Chuckles ]

Not when I can avoid it. Yeah.

Yeah, then you could probably just get away with baby oil.

Yeah.

So there is a channel of that in the frame?

Yeah. It's the circulatory system of the bicycle.

I still haven't seen the valve yet.

Oh, yeah. The valve -- It's really hard to see.

It's really flush, but you'll feel it when it's upside down.

Yeah. It's good to just kind of pump it in there.

I usually do this for a few minutes

once I change the oil out.

Yeah. I'm gonna get rid of this

dirty oil and I'll be right back.

But you can pump that in if you want to get it smooth.

You notice some squeaking the whole time

or just when you're riding? Just when you're riding.

Well, is this -- Have you not ridden this since winter?

Yeah. No. We don't ride very often.

But in the summertime, we take them up to Michigan

and ride a ton, so...yeah. Okay. Yeah.

Um, you probably want to not have the tires winterized

like this then. Oh. Okay.

Yeah. They're positioned for snow right now.

Oh.

You got these little silver pegs sticking up.

You know how they put, like, chains on tires...

Oh, yeah. ...for a car in the winter?

Right. Well, and we probably bought that bike up in Michigan.

That would explain -- Yeah.

And that will winterize the tire.

So it makes it easier. It gives it more traction.

You know how it has studs on it like a tire?

Good to know. I had no idea.

Yeah. They're called -- They're snow nails.

Once you get the main ones out, you unscrew the nozzle.

Yeah. That pressure holds the other ones in.

And then just give it a spin.

You don't want to be riding around

with all those nails in there during the summertime.

And in the winter, what you want to do --

I mean, you can buy a new pack of them...

Just lay them out in a line and just ride over them

and get them all back up in the tires...

So Anne bought my endless nail trick

hook, line, and sinker.

Now, later that day, I tried a different trick

on a very observant customer.

is hyper aware and very observant.

Now, usually when I perform tricks,

I'm in one area of a location the whole day.

But here, I wanted the option of either greeting customers

at the wall display, or sitting them down

at my workstation.

And this meant we had to tweak our camera coverage

to cover both areas to make sure we didn't miss anything.

Michael: Looking for a new pair of glasses?

Yeah, I'm thinking about possibly getting --

I like the ones that actually,

you know, change on their own as you go outside.

Oh, transition lenses? Yes.

Yeah. I like those.

They can get so expensive, though.

Yeah. And I lose sunglasses

all the time.

Yeah. So I stopped buying,

like, designer frames.

I just use, like, the -- I use these.

I keep one of those in my car

if I'm going to the beach or something like that.

What is this? The Polarz de Sol.

So they just go over your lenses?

Oh, no, no. You haven't seen these?

No. Oh, these are awesome.

It's a Brazilian company that made these.

It's a little kit, and inside,

it has all the little, tiny lenses inside.

But they do, like, a compact thing with them, you know?

So what is it? You ever see those glasses

that fold up really small?

Right. It's like that, right?

So that -- So that one expands

pretty much?

Yeah. The way they fold up so small --

You can just balance it there.

And what's cool about it is this just fits

right in your back pocket, which is awesome.

Feel how flat that is.

But you can feel that it's got a little bit of gearing in it.

Right?

If I touch that and I lick my finger...

Mm-hmm. ...and I just touch that...

to that.

There. What?

Yeah. They pop out.

Yeah. This part swings out.

Wait. Whoa. Yeah, they get --

Oh, my goodness.

This is actually a favorite trick of mine

that I bust out at parties or other social situations,

and I'd been waiting patiently

for a chance to use it on the show.

And the eyeglass store was the first perfect opportunity.

Yeah. And they're good.

And I don't even worry about losing them now.

You know what I mean?

Yeah. You got like a million more in there.

-Yeah. -Oh, my gosh.

I can't believe what I just witnessed.

Yeah. And they're good.

I don't worry about losing them, which is great.

And the best thing is this little guy just fits

right in your back pocket, right like that.

Oh! Oh, yeah.

Did they all just come out? Yeah.

You know what it is?

The condensation's been kind of making them pop up prematurely.

You're supposed to keep this thing sealed.

The humidity, it kind of gets inside there,

Okay, pulling off magic tricks at an eyeglass store

was a little more challenging than we thought,

in part because many of the customers

didn't have the best vision, and thus didn't pick up

on the impossible change

that was happening in front of them.

Here's a great example.

Check out this never-before-seen trick.

Take those. You can put your glasses down right there.

All right. How do they --

They're very light, right? Yeah, they're very light.

Yeah. Here, take a look at that.

It's a very subtle -- it's a very subtle --

They're sort of like almost invisible, right?

Because there's so many options nowadays,

like, every company can't make every single frame

So this is a really great product.

And that doesn't affect the skin in any way

if you have sensitive skin? I mean...

Well, it dries, of course.

I get a little sting when I do it.

Oh, okay. But it doesn't tint it.

It actually changes the molecular structure

of the metal.

Isn't that wild? It is.

This was made on accident, this product.

They were trying to make a super gold cleaner.

So somebody made the opposite molecular structure of gold...

...so that stuff would turn titanium to gold

or nickel, silver.

So you would never know that they were black.

And I'm still kind of curious

as to how it treats the skin over time.

There are certain environments where people

tend to have subdued reactions to magic,

and the eyeglass store was one of them.

When the surroundings are hushed and sterile like this,

it's rare for somebody to really speak up.

Even though Brenda seemed to believe

my impossible sales pitch,

I could tell she was just a wee bit suspicious.

And my instincts were confirmed,

as you're about to see in this never-aired reveal.

I mean, I've heard of carbon monoxide

No. It was magic. So how did you get it to do it?

We knew we wanted to shoot a bit with a tanning booth,

but every tanning salon was way too small

for our hidden camera setup.

So we figured out a way for the trick to make sense

in the middle of a giant mall.

Michael: How you doing? Woman: Good.

Have you worked with this before?

No. Oh. Okay.

It's a tanning machine that people can tan

without having to take off their clothes.

Cool. So they can wear their clothes

inside the machine.

Okay.

So everyone who does it has to sign a release.

It has this -- Here. I'll put this over here.

Yeah. The bulbs are made...

[ Grunts ] ...out of this, uh,

intense infrared light.

Astronauts, they noticed, were getting tan through their suits.

Hm. So they knew that it wasn't

because of direct light hitting the skin.

It was radiating from underneath,

which, you know, we like to tell people

that they won't ruin their skin.

Yeah. They don't have, like, damage

or drying out and wrinkle.

Yesterday was my first day,

and all I did is turn on the machine.

You just turn it on with this button?

Yeah. I'll show you how to do it.

Okay.

And that's basically it.

They just go in there for a few seconds.

It's pretty cool. I mean, you see it immediately.

-Really? -Yeah.

All of a sudden, they're tan in like seven seconds.

That's crazy.

It's pretty wild.

So I don't have to take my clothes off?

So they don't want us playing around

with anything other than that.

And it's just, like, an automatic thing,

so it just does what it does, and...that's all.

Creating a misunderstanding,

like having her hold the remote upside down,

is a common technique in hidden-camera pranks.

It makes the person feel

like they're partly responsible for the situation,

when in reality, she had no control over

the tanning bed at all.

I'm so sorry.

That's my fault. That's totally my fault.

Don't even worry about it. What?

Yeah. Don't even worry.

Okay.

She just died? Uh...

They're all very well aware of what happens.

Like, they signed a release,

so we're not responsible at all.

It's totally --

Like, we're allowed to fumble, you know?

Like, we're -- I just -- Shut up.

Like, I just learned this yesterday,

so I don't -- It doesn't matter.

We're not gonna be responsible for that kind of thing.

They said, "If anything happens, just clean it up

and just, you know, try and upsell someone else."

Now, this trick was a real balancing act.

We wanted the situation to be exciting, but not tragic,

even though a woman was just reduced to ash.

So we added the dust-buster to give this a layer of levity.

I mean, I feel...

I feel you. It's like...

You know, they're making us do something that's experimental,

and the people who come to use it

are well aware that it's experimental.

So that makes me feel better.

I don't like it,

but I'm not gonna take on that responsibility.

You know what I mean? Oh, my G-- Okay.

I'm not comfortable doing this. Like --

Really?

Not at -- I mean, somebody just died.

I like to say she, you know... had a little too much sun

or whatever you want to say.

So, how do you get tan like that?

A tanning bed, but I don't die.

Right. Well, yeah. That's good.

So, um... So I wanted to take a break.

Will you be comfortable doing this if someone comes to try it?

Oh, no. But now that you know

how the remote's held.
