Does some-- Shaquille, if you're standing here, can you tell?

Can I tell there was chicken in there? No.

No, no. If she was peeking from that spot,

can you tell this is a robot?

Right?

Right, she's not gonna be able to tell

that that's a robot chicken?

[Bleep] was that?

[ Laughs ] Right?

No, I just don't want her to --

I want her to believe that it's, like, real, you know?

How you do that?

I'm out of here, bro. Stop.

You're freaking me out.

Wait, no. Come here.

I want you to actually help me fool somebody in the show.

♪♪

Okay, this music store just happens to be located

directly across the street from a federal penitentiary

that once housed Al Capone, Whitey Bulger,

and famed counterfeiter Frank Abagnale.

No, this won't be on the test.

Man: Do you remember how to read music?

Michael: No, not really.

All right, well, before we start playing,

let's start -- grab the horn and take your mouthpiece out.

Okay.

So, obviously, to make sound on this, we can't just

[Blows] Nothing happens.

Right. So we have to buzz.

[ Buzzes ]

[ Horn toots ]

[ Horn toots ]

Good.

[ Both toot horns ]

Good. Okay?

That's good for the start.

Just, it was, like, dripping on me.

I -- that's gonna happen.

Okay.

Most of it's condensation, a little bit of it's spit.

Oh, oh. But it's your spit,

so you don't have to worry. Okay.

But that's what this is for.

You know, you've got your [Blows]

your water key, and then you have an extra one

right here that I don't have.

I've just got to... Right, right, right.

I got a dump slide.

Okay, so this goes in.

Yep, and just give it a little twist so it doesn't fall out.

Okay, here we go.

All right.

So 1, 2, 3...

[ Inhales deeply ]

[ Blows horn ]

Rest.

Okay. Good.

Couple of things. Yeah?

Because we're buzzing and going [Buzzes]

into a metal tube, water collects,

and when there's too much...

Oh. Yeah, there you go.

You won't get as much in that one,

'cause that one only fills up when you are using this.

And you just -- on to the floor?

Lower. Oh!

Oh.

I -- you know what? I never opened that.

This is my grandpa's.

I never -- I've never touched that trigger before.

Okay. Yeah.

It must've been --

That kind of blows my mind

that there was that much in there and I wasn't hearing it.

All right. Oh, you would hear it?

Yeah. Yeah, so [Blows]

Blow through. Open it and blow through it.

[ Blows forcefully ]

[ Horn squeaking ]

[ Water gurgling ]

It's making a sound.

Yeah.

Okay.

Um, stop real quick.

Okay.

See if you can pull this out.

Feels, like, jammed a little.

Oh, all the way out?

Yeah.

How was there that much in there...

Oh, that's a lot. ...and I wasn't hearing it?

Well, hold on a second.

I'm a little perplexed by this.

Take your mouthpiece.

Well, now I'm nervous. Wait, hold on.

'Cause my -- my mom was like "be very careful with it.

Let me just blow through that one more time

and see if I can get it.

[ Blowing raggedly ]

[ Horn squeaks ]

[ Squeaking continues ]

Okay.

It feels kind of plugged,

like there's some --

like I feel like a vibration sound.

Yeah. I can feel it in my mouth.

Can I see it really quick?

It sounds like there's -- it sounds like

there's something stuck in it that's getting in the way.

Well, it has been in my truck of my car.

Okay. So...

Through the whole summer, so maybe the condensation.

Yeah. Possibly.

Yeah, and I mean, like,

I've worked with so many horns over time that...

[ Blows raggedly ]

That feels clearer.

Yeah, I mean, I've always been, like, an overactive salivator.

I mean, that was... Like, when --

That's more than just saliva, though. That's a lot.

Well, when I was a kid, like, they wouldn't let me

have sour candy, because it would trigger,

like, a lot of saliva in my mouth.

And my grandfather had it, too. This is his, so...

Okay, well, maybe it's that.

It might've been, yeah.

Okay, well, you know, if it's too personal a question

just tell me, you don't have to answer, but...

...you know, when you say you over salivate,

how much do you mean?

Do you mean just like...

Well, like, they used to think

I was throwing up a lot in school.

Like, I would, uh...

Okay. In choir,

I would sing, and spit.

Huh. Okay.

That could, you know, if that's a thing,

that might, you know, that might encumber you a bit,

trying to play, but...

I could, like, learn, maybe for, like,

a Cirque Du Soleil show or something.

Maybe I play the trumpet and, like, be like

a human fountain trumpet player.

Okay, getting real music lessons was a truly unique experience,

because teachers are the ones

supposedly in control of the situation,

and here for the first time ever is another trick I tried

with a determined teacher and a damaged drum.

Oops. Well, shoot.

Don't worry about it. Okay, good.

Did I do that? I don't know.

I think I did that. We can ask afterwards.

[ Laughs ]

Does that, like, ruin a drum?

We'll ask about it afterwards.

Yeah, my cousin had one that, like --

and they fix it with that stuff.

It's called, um... Drum Putty.

Have you see-- They usually keep it

by the, like, where -- Oh, there it is.

Did you ever see that stuff?

Oh, cool.

Oh, yeah. This stuff.

Yeah. And I bet it's the right consistency

so it doesn't change the sound or anything.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, it's so funny.

I have a credit, so I'll buy this, too.

It's, like, a putty that fixes it

so you don't have to replace the skin.

I really love drums,

so I was gonna take guitar and drums,

but, here, I'll open this up.

And I'll buy it.

If you won't tell them that I did this,

then I won't tell them that I did this.

Yeah, you see, it's like this goopy stuff.

Feel that? It's neat.

Yeah, and I think it's got, like, an animal protein in it.

Probably.

Yeah, it's, like, the sa--

That way it works with it.

Right, 'cause drum skins usually, you know, are --

Skin. Skin. Right, so it has --

That's why it's called a skin.

That's right. That's right.

It is skin from, like, an animal.

So you put it on the edges of it.

It's not glue, but it's like a --

it's got a little bit of, uh...

What's that called? Like, inside of an animal?

Like, the lard stuff?

Yeah, right. Like the protein or the...

The, uh... The fat.

The resin of an animal. And then, look.

Yeah, here, I'll use my cleaning cloth.

You just take it and sort of just, like, push the skin down.

You see that?

And you kind of push that, hold it closed,

and press it down for a minute.

Right? Whoa!

That's pretty good. Whoa!

Wow!

That, like, blows my mind.

All right. It's easy to think of a guitar like a woman.

Okay. Okay.

So, what would this be?

I shouldn't say.

You shouldn't say. Yeah, you should.

[ Giggles ]

There are no rules.

[ Laughs ]

This would be her sweet music hole.

There you go.

[ Strums guitar ] What is that?

Oh, "Here Comes the Bride"? Yeah.

Oh, that's so funny, 'cause I was saying,

'cause I'm doing this because of an anniversary, so...

So that interval...

is a fourth.

Want to show me here?

[ Plucks note ]

Right there.

First finger right on the B-string,

on this string right here.

[ Guitar twangs ]

Hold on. My...

Hold on a second.

Did I get it twisted in there?

Um, yeah.

It might take...

Oh, yeah. It's, like --

That's one reason why I don't wear jewelry.

Right. Yeah.

You're gonna have to pull it all the way off your finger.

[ Laughs ] Wait, how does that --

How in the [bleep] does that happen?

Wait. Wait.

Sorry. Hold on. [ Laughs ]

Wait, how did --

I don't know. Let me see this for a second.

That --

Is it the vibration? Or...

Maybe, like, I think when I went up -- wait.

No, you didn't get up past that.

Yeah, how did that happen?

Wait, I had this hand...

I do not know, but I wish we had this on video.

[ Laughs ]

Dude, I have no idea how that could have happened.

Have you seen that -- does that happen, like, if you're --

I've seen people get their rings caught in the string,

but not to where it actually went around the string.

Well, how did it --

I have no idea, man.

I was thinking you had a split in the ring, but you don't.

No, this is my wedding ring.

Yeah.

I've never seen that.

Man, I've been playing for 45 years.

I've never seen that happen.

Seriously? Yes.

[ Laughs ]

So what do -- let me grab a plier.

Hang out here a sec.

I'll grab a plier.

[ Chuckles ]

That is amazing.

Okay, here, we were very lucky,

because the owner of the bowling alley

was also a big fan of the show.

So he let us in before dawn

and allowed us to start shooting at 8:00 A.M.

so we could avoid the evening crowds.

You never want to hit pins the first one of the day.

Yeah, I usually have a co-worker with me.

Man: Okay.

'Cause I'm just trying to fix the ball return.

It'd be great if you could just -- can you bowl?

Um...[Laughs] What?

I can try. I've only done it, like, twice.

Well, no. You don't have to be good or anything, I just...

So you want to, like, test it?

I just got to make sure that that's gonna start up again.

-Okay. -Give it a toss like that.

-I'm gonna take this off. -Yeah.

Okay, yeah. So grab that ball.

Sure.

Okay.

Here we go.

Like that?

Yeah.

[ Alarm blares ] Whoa!

Oh, did they install that thing?

Oh, my gosh. What happened?

I think you went over the line.

No. I did? You must've. Yeah.

We had a meeting about this.

We got guys who play you know,

real tournament games here.

And, uh...

Maybe it's very sensitive.

I think that if you get close --

Careful!

'Cause it's a laser system.

Right, right, right, right, right.

It might just be out of whack.

Yeah. I know I didn't go over the line. Trust me.

Oh, yeah. It must be messed up.

Yeah. Look at this.

Yeah. See that?

Yes. Oh, my gosh.

I can't believe they put it in.

It's a good thing we didn't -- oh, my -- that -- wow.

These things are -- you know, it's just so

that if someone goes in it, you know, it's gonna --

Aah! Whoa!

Be careful.

-Be careful, brother. -Whoa!

Damn, that's dangerous!

-Aah! -Go get some water.

Wow, no, no. I'm good. I'm good. I'm good.

I've been bowling a long time, so I think I'm okay.

It's out now.

Whew! I've never seen anything like that.

Yeah. Ooh.

Wow.

What's going on?

But so what happens if -- if a...

if someone does that, though?

Huh?

What happens if a customer does that?

Well, they're being very strict

about going over the line.

Danger -- okay, do not cross...

Ooh.

That's why we put the danger signs in.

I've never seen that, though.

It's to deter people.

Do you know what they do now?

It's because we got a lot of pros in here.

You know, so they want to make sure

when people play in games that they're not crossing that line.

Sure. So they had a big meeting

and they talked about

putting in, you know, a major deterrent --

first-degree burn if anybody were to cross the line.

What if you have -- Okay, so let me ask you this question.

This is mainly for professionals?

Well, we do it for professionals as well as...

Amateurs? ...uh, kids.

You know, when training kids. Oh, wow.

You want to make sure that --

'cause when you learn correctly the first time...

Okay. You know, you grow into

a pro bowler.

Becoming a pro, yeah.

Yeah, it's out.

You might want to throw some water.

You might want to take your shoes off.

I'm serious. Huh?

Take your shoe off.

I think it's out now.

It caught on fire.

It's still smoking.

Yeah, there is.

You know what? Let me kick the shoe off.

Do you want some water? No, I think I'm okay.

It's just, you know, it's like --

[ Gasps ] Your sock! Oh, yeah.

I would, like I said, you don't want to get it infected.

You might want to take the sock off, and I'm telling you --

Oh, you know what, though?

I kind of -- I got a reputation around here,

so I don't want to, you know, all the pro bowlers

are used to this.

I have really good vision.

There is smoke coming out.

Michael: Yeah. It was a little warm.

Take the sock off. I'm --

Yeah, I'm gonna take this sock off.

[ Sighs ] After seeing that, yeah.

Trust me. I won't be passing that line.

[ Chuckles ]

Whew.

I've always loved this guy,

and one thing you've never seen until now

is just how he reacted when he found out my foot was okay

and that he was on a hidden-camera magic show.

So, there's first-degree burns,

second-degree burn, third-degree,

and then the Carbonaro Effect.

You are still -- there's still smoke coming out.

Have you heard of that before? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

You've heard of the Carbonaro Effect?

I've heard of it. I don't know much about it,

but -- I-I don't know the terminology on it,

'cause I'm not really a bowler.

Right, right.

Are you a professional bowler?

No. No?

"The Carbonaro Effect" is the name

of a hidden-camera magic TV show.

Oh, you little... [ Laughs ]

I'm Michael Carbonaro. I'm a magician.

You -- is that --

I'm sorry. I have to sit down.

Are you serious? I'm on a TV show?

You're on a TV show. It's my show.

My name's Michael Carbonaro.

I have a TV show called "The Carbonaro Effect."

[ Laughs ]

Let's see it.

That's really good.

I'm just -- I didn't know I was so good at bowling.

What's that? You didn't know you were so good at bowling?

I haven't bowled in... I don't even know.

Oh, really? Years.

Oh, my gosh.

That was a really good bowl, though.

Awesome.

Oh, you know what?

This might be a beginner ball.

Do you hear that in there?

The air? There's like a little sound?

Yeah. So, there's beginner balls.

You know, there's, like, beginner balls

that make things easier to use.

Mm-hmm.

I might have a tool right here.

Let's see.

Okay, let me just pull that out.

Oh, yeah.

Whoa.

Oh, look at that.

What?

It's a Texas roller.

That's so weird.

Yeah.

They put little baby armadillos into the balls,

and then when they grow up,

it'll actually give an advantage to the ball,

because it's, you know, it's manned, a little bit,

or armadillo-ed.

You know?

I'm in shock right now.

You just pulled an animal out of that.

[ Laughs ] Oh, yeah.

Well, you know, it's funny.

It's because bowling started with armadillos,

like, when they were rolling.

It became a game that you would play out in the field.

So a way to, you know, get a real good advantage

is to put the armadillo in the ball, obviously,

because it propels itself.

Makes sense.

Yeah.

I just had never heard of that.

Yeah, yeah. [ Laughs ]

It's called "Texas tilt." You haven't heard of that?

No. Aw, yeah.

You see somebody bowl and it's wobbling from side to side?

It's like teeter-tottering?

That's when you know it's time to feed him

with the armadillo food.

Okay, one of my favorite things

is that we had this Armadillo Feeder

just sitting out all day long, and no one noticed it

until I pointed it out.

Okay. Just stay right there.

I don't want to get in trouble for leaving you.

♪♪

Did you know that there's armadillos in bowling balls?

I'm in shock.

Armadill-- A real armadillo is in a bowling ball.

All right, when we found out

that we were filming with Shaquille O'Neal,

I was stoked.

He is a huge magic fan.

So much so, he explicitly stated

that he didn't want to know how anything worked

so that he could also be amazed.

Let's do it, bro. All right. Yeah.

Go hide.

Hide? Hide where?

What's your name?

Ace: Ace. You can call me Ace.

Ace, you are gonna be our model for this.

Ooh.

This is my invention.

This is the egg spa, and we're taking

just pictures with real people using it.

Yeah.

We've got a pretty good

endorsement possibility happening.

So, do you know Shaquille O'Neal?

Yeah, so...

Mm! We got to win it is the thing.

Oh, man. Okay.

He expressed interest.

He loved my invention, and if we can get

his sign-off on it, it'll be a lot easier to --

It's going big.

Right, and it's called "Egg Spa,"

but we thought we'd call it "The Egg Shaq."

Ooh! If he do it!

If he do it. We could go Egg Shaq.

So he's gonna come later today,

and I want to show him some pictures.

Okay. I want you to take a look,

and I'll tell you a little bit about the machine.

Yes.

The idea for this is that this is something

that you could actually have in your kitchen,

and if you have a live chicken that would live inside here,

and it's like a little spa environment.

Now, a chicken usually only lays one egg a day.

Oh.

So the chicken can be inside here in a little nest,

and it's warm, and when it's closed up

and the machine's turned on, the light turns

from UV light to infrared light,

and then back again.

And the chicken thinks that a day has passed.

Don't worry. Oh, okay.

My brother raises them. Yes.

They're like family pets. I love animals, period.

It'd be great if we had

a shot of him holding -- just holding...

A tiny turn? Yeah.

[ Machine whirrs ]

That's good. Yep.

And right in the rack.

I thought it was because the power was --
