Last year she was named National Youth of the Year

by the Boys and Girls Club of America.

Maryah joined the Boys and Girls Club

of Central Florida at the age of six.

Over the years, she has blossomed

to become a leader-- not just at home,

but in the community as well.

She formed an after-school program

where older kids could mentor and tutor the younger ones.

Maryah recently graduated high school

with a 4.4 grade point average.

That's incredible! Give it up for Maryah!

Maryah, thank you so much for all that you have done,

and all that you continue to do.

You truly are worthy of this Heroes For Change Award.

"Heroes For Change Award" to Sloan Peterson.

Sloan has worked tirelessly to raise money

to bring clean water, education,

and help those kids less fortunate.

This accomplishment and unwavering need to help others

is even more impressive when you realize that Sloan

is only ten years old.

After a trip to Kenya, Sloan became inspired

to give back to communities that had so little.

She became involved with Free The Children,

an international charity dedicated

to helping children throughout the world.

Eventually, Sloan organized a Free The Children chapter in her own school

and raised money to provide clean water to places like Africa,

India, and other communities across the globe.

She genuinely believes by empowering young kids across the world,

and giving back to those less fortunate,

we can truly make the world a better place.

My friend Jennifer Lopez wears many shoes,

actress, singer, producer,

dancer, fashion designer, author,

entrepreneur,

but it is her work as a mother

and in her charity

that she's being honored tonight.

In addition to being an inspiration to kids

all over the world with her amazing talent,

she inspires all of us to make the world a better place

through her charity work.

That is why it's my honor to present Jennifer Lopez

with the 2015 Radio Disney Hero Award.

When Jennifer's mother Guadalupe

brought her then 14-year-old daughter

to the Kips Bay Club in 1983,

the timing couldn't have been better.

Boys and Girls Club alumnus and Ballet Hispanico dancer

Larry Maldonado had just begun a performing arts program

recruiting colleagues to come to the South Bronx

and teach everything from dramatic arts

to music to dance disciplines, including salsa and ballet.

I think of Larry and how much he took

me and my sister and really, really showed us

what it was to be a performer.

It gave you a sense of, kind of, like, belonging.

It started my creative side,

it's where I first learned how to really dance...

and really, really kickstarted my dreams.

Nick: As someone who's own life was enriched by the educational

and developmental program fostered by the Boys and Girls Club,

Jennifer found success as a world-renowned entertainer,

which later inspired her to payher good fortune forward

with various other charitable organizations

that give back to the community.

I'm honored to receive Pernini Pamarni award.

In 2009, Jennifer and her sister

founded the Lopez FamilyFoundation,

which has been dedicated to improving healthcare

for women and children all over the world.

The Lopez Family Foundation

is something my sister and I started,

some way to give back.

Nick: In conjunction with Children's Hospital, Los Angeles,

the foundation has opened over seven telemedicine centers

in Panama and Puerto Rico,

providing medical care to those

who normally do not have the access.

As an extension of their mission and goals,

in 2014 they partnered with the Montefiore MedicalCenter in the Bronx

to provide healthy eating and exercise for families in the Bronx.

Jennifer: The project with Montefiore--

it's the biggest hospital in the Bronx.

We went to them and said, "What can we do?"

� Feel the light � Nurturing children--

it's never something that's going to get old,

or helping them dream or giving them self-esteem,

or giving them a sense of community.

It's just as important now as ever.
