Here.
Professor Zoolian, Mr. Pollard, Dr. Dennison and Ms. Volner. Now I would
first and foremost like to thank you guys for the opportunity to present my
submission for the Numerous grant and I apologize for not being there in person
myself.
The basis of our research boils down to the results and the data that you have
in front of you.
We have recorded 152 compacific killings in the chimpanzee communities and only
one in the bonobo communities of the DRC.
We found that males made up most frequent attackers, 89%, with 70% of the
victims being male also, and 62% of all killings were intercommunity.
Variation in these killing rates was not related to any measure of human impact.
And our results are compatible with previously proposed adaptive
explanations for killings by chimpanzees where the human impact hypothesis was
not supported.
Correct.
According to what is in front of us, authored by yourself and your colleague,
there is a clear case and study supporting human impacts, such as
habitat change and food provisioning.
Is this not your study?
Yes, it is.
As you are aware, the Numerous Foundation specifically is concerned
with evolutionary ties of murder with primitive strata groups.
Fortunately, there are specific grants that seek to fund research on human
rights, but not this one.
If you would just allow me a moment more to go through more of our data. Thank
you very much for your time.
A member of our group will give you a call soon. We'll be in touch.
Thank you.
So, you think these primates are cute and fuzzy, right?
Like a weekend at the zoo, lots of photos, all that other shit, yeah?
You thought wrong.
These guys are calculated and they murder. Actually, speaking of murdering,
I want to show you the father of them all.
Meet Boris.
Now, we studied this fucker for a fair amount of time. Wind, leeches, rain...
Have you been camping by the way?
Next time, you've got to come with us, yeah?
So you'll need to sell your tablets.
That's enough. You've had enough.
What?
Well, how much is it?
Eighty-two.
Hey, what the fuck?
Eighty bucks for what?
These are like three bucks at the local bottle shop. Are you serious? You should
check the price list, sir.
If there's going to be a problem, I'll call the police.
It's fine. I can't find my wallet.
I can explain, I had everything on me.
That bitch, she took my wallet.
She took my wallet, I'm the victim here.
Yep. Jesus Christ, Dan.
Just imagine it's me in a similar bind one of these days, huh?
The same place, no doubt, yeah?
Yeah, sure.
Yep.
How much does it go?
On camera?
Hey!
I'm sorry, I'm sorry!
It's over. I'm sorry, I've had three beers!
And this chick came along and I was chatting to her and she fucking stole my
wallet.
I was just here. It was just here for lunch.
What do you mean? What do you mean lunch?
We've been here for four hours with a tab that consisted of only booze. Give
me a break, Stan. Come on.
We've been friends for how long, man? Are you going to throw away over
something as stupid as this?
Between you and me. The grant.
It's done.
We didn't get it.
God, that's cool.
I'm sorry, what happened? What did they say about the paper? Well, you submitted
the wrong set, mate. So you tell me.
The habit changes, varying to the typical food source. But we saw all
this. We documented it all. We ran the model, for God's sakes. It has to do
with human impact first and foremost.
You know, this kind of primatology is underpinned by our results, Cass.
Yeah? Yeah.
I know.
I know.
What's your problem?
You.
Here. See for yourself. When you do the comparative analysis between the
pantroglodytes and the panpeniscus around conspecific killing, there's a
clear statistical result consistent with the deforestation in zones 3 and 4.
I mean, the Minova data, for God's sakes.
That's why I included that. I know I should have moved you.
But, you know, I'm...
They're always telling me to follow my gut, and that's what I did.
They're there.
Right?
You're right.
I'm right.
We know we're right. But, mate, where to?
From here?
I don't know.
I mean, I don't understand how they've rejected it. It's hard fucking data.
Listen, Stan.
Ten years ago, I would agree with you.
But when you've been in it as long as I have, right?
You've got to learn to play the game if you want to stay in it.
And sometimes that means you've got to sculpt the data to suit the hypothesis
to get paid and stay in the field.
Anyways, man.
I'm beat.
I'm tired.
I need some time out.
It's been doing this too long.
Mate, you can't.
I'll call. I'll say I did it. I fucked it up.
No.
I'm the one that... I did it.
Yeah, you did.
So, they can review your... Oh!
Yeah, I'll... Thank you, though.
Hey.
Yeah, I'm sorry.
I was tied up.
What?
It got missing, didn't it?
But he does that all the time.
Alright.
Okay, I'll come, I'll come.
I'll call you from the train.
Okay, bye.
Who's that?
May's, um, your sister, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Or who?
No, it's not actually me.
My younger brother, Manny, has gone missing again.
Again?
Mate, there's much time we've spent together. You've never really divulged
much, have you? I mean, about your family.
I think I've talked to May before.
I think.
But I didn't have your number.
Anyway, I understand you don't want to talk about it.
No, it's cool.
It's just, yeah.
Everything was just crazy after she went missing.
She is in May.
My mum.
She disappeared.
Yeah, my pa just dragged us out of the city and moved us into the country. So a
big fucking idea and there was nonsense.
So there was like a full police investigation and all that?
Fuck, you never told me that.
Kalinka?
Kalinka?
Zone 9?
Yes.
So, it's all about Zone 9.
I know you told me to forget about it, and I did.
But, I ended up collecting a fuckload of data there anyway.
Yeah.
I spent some time with the local announcement.
They wanted me to look over all these weird as fuck photos and shit they'd
found out of perimeter.
So we hiked over there and there was, sure enough, there was a family living
there. But one morning, two wound up dead right by the rig section.
Ran an autopsy, like a jungle autopsy.
And there were clear inter-community killing markets.
I mean, I've documented all this shit and here we are.
What's this?
That, sir, would be a finely deceased pen. Niscus.
Not that dickhead. This.
I don't know.
It's a... It's a Hessian bag, mate.
Honestly, what are you talking about?
Honestly, by sunrise we'll be back on track.
Are you okay?
Honestly, we've got nothing to lose. I'll put it together and I'll hand
deliver it myself.
Honestly,
what are you talking about?
Just make sense.
I can't.
Explain it. I haven't told anyone this before and it's just this bag has just
jogged memory.
When I was younger, you know, we were talking about my mother.
I just, a week before, I saw bags like this in the forest near our house.
God,
I was terrified.
It was so strange.
I told no one.
Now, I don't know. I haven't seen it in how many.
Sorry, so... What's killed this is living up north
in your dad's house and collects fashion bags.
Fuck, no!
Mate, honestly, what?
Yeah, well, we could have just stayed here and studied it, you know? I mean,
no need to go to the bloody Congo.
Shit.
Just a few more questions.
More questions?
You said that hours ago.
Look, you've been on Manny's case for the last 15 years.
Just, you can't let go.
Well, that's not answering the question now, is it?
I'll ask it again.
In plain English.
Why didn't you ask when he'd be back?
I mean, he's your son after all.
Whether he's 10 or 30, right?
I don't know.
And you can take that as your answer for your next stupid question.
Look, people go missing every day.
But when the body of a mutilated boy shows up... on a riverbank near your
property, I've got to act now.
In your wife's case, that's a cold case.
But I've got my suspicions and that boy of yours is high on the list.
So let me do my job and ask the questions that need to be answered.
Manny! What are they doing?
They're waiting for McKendrick to leave.
I see he is. He about that guy that joined the lake, wasn't he?
Yeah. Let's just pick Manny again. Manny.
Manny, Manny, Manny.
I'm sick of hearing about him.
Do you know where he is?
Manny? There.
Bye.
the old school we can go there right now
I've just sent it in and I'm going to call them as well.
Yeah, that's certainly out.
No, the fat lady has not sung.
Just get here by the end of the week and I'll have this shit sorted, alright?
What the fuck is going on?
And who the fuck was that?
Sparrow.
You remember him? Who?
No.
He used to own the pub.
And his parents lived there for a while.
We gotta get out of here.
Hey! We gotta get out of here!
Right now. We can't just let him run around doing this shit. We've got to go.
Go where Cass?
I don't know.
Somewhere.
Cass, we can't go to the police station.
We still haven't found Maggie. This is not about me.
They'd fucking call you back here for me.
What are you doing, Cass?
Cassian, what the fuck are you doing?
Cassian, what the fuck are you doing?
Cass! What are you doing?
Where does he live, mate?
Who? Huh?
Morale. Where does he live? Tell me right fucking now.
What the fuck are you talking about, Cassian?
Exactly what I'm talking about.
I'm not going to ask you again. Tell me now! Where is he?
Where does he live?
It's down here, right? Who?
It's down here, isn't it?
Please creatures, please.
Thank you.
Got you, you sick fuck.
Jesus.
I don't know.
If this makes any sense, Cass, I don't know where those bags came from, I don't
know what was in it, I don't... This whole fucking town, including Arv, is
fucked. And we need to get out of here. I don't know what was in that bag, I
don't want to know. But we've got to get out of here, and we've got to get help
now.
What is it mate?
Afternoon. I'm afraid the road ahead is closed.
Why? What's going on? What's the emergency?
There's a bushfire ahead, I'm afraid.
I'm going to have to get you to turn this vehicle around.
How do we know the tail's not burning down anyways? Look, surely, mate, that
there's a road out of here somewhere. Come on. I'm afraid they've ultimately
closed this road.
So you're going to have to turn this vehicle around, I'm afraid.
That's great.
Thank you. Have a good night. Yeah.
A fire is one thing after another.
Where are you going to go?
We're getting out of here.
It doesn't make sense. Where the fuck are we going to go?
He literally just told you that you can't go this way.
What do you want me to do?
Where are we going to go? We need to go.
We've got to make our way to the old school.
Why?
I told Arv this morning that I would meet him at the old school and he would
have Manny.
But you don't know for sure. Yeah, I do. I saw him this morning.
Cass, just please, can we go back to Arv's? I just want to find Manny.
Look, I'm sorry I didn't tell you, Cass. I just...
The whole thing has made me think of mum and I just, I just want to get... Mate,
I don't want to go back to fucking Arv's house. It's all your fucking choice,
Kat.
Well, I think it is actually. You brought me into this shit, now I've got
to deal with it. Yeah, fucking mistake that was. Manny will be with Arv. Just
go. Just go.
For fuck's sakes, Cassie, where are your fucking priorities?
Hey!
Don't you fucking talk to me like that. This is your fucking mess.
So I figure we'll make our way out to the old school.
On from there is a dirt road.
Follow that out.
The fire is in the east, okay? Unless that wind dramatically changes, we can
get out of here.
May?
May, hello?
Look, I see that you've made some plans here, you know, like, let's hear it.
Manny? Arv's on his own.
Alright, and we need to find Manny.
And if he happens to be with Arv, great.
Is your father too romantic, Arv?
No.
He's no father of mine, Manny.
Listen, I'm serious. We can get out of here.
What the fuck are you doing? What are you packing?
Stop it Cass.
In case you forgot there's a fire in here this way and all your science talk
shit is gonna stop it.
So I'm taking what's most valuable to me and Macy. You want me to just place this
down or let's go and lose everything.
Where's all the fucking bag, Cass?
There's all the fucking bag!
You're wasting your time with this shit!
Do you know what?
You asked me to come and I came. For you. For me.
Jamie, it's too late, Cass.
You only ever come when it suits you.
Do you have any idea how many times I wished you'd come home after Mum went
missing? I was here, Cass, on my own. Just Madina.
And I was depressed to the shit for months on end after she went missing.
Didn't utter a single word.
Between him and Manny, Cass, I was fucking prison here and you were gone.
By choice.
That research took you to the other side of the world, as far away from us as
possible.
I've abandoned us!
And it's not up to you to keep it together, okay?
And then, we had to deal with all of that shit, just the three of us. Where
was he, Holmes? A fucking cow has hives!
You can't choose! You can't choose your family, Cass!
It's about you forgiving him for your own sanity and your own ability to move
on. I've done that, and I stay to look after him and Nanny.
And so what now? Because I can't forgive him, nor he, I. You're just going to
carry it on.
You know what, Cass?
I never should have called you down here, Cass.
I should have written you off completely like you did your own family.
Do you have any idea how much time I spent watching our sit at that kitchen
table, fucking looking out into nothing, into this place that used to be our
home? You never had to take money to the doctors every two weeks. What is this?
Go on the fuck. Get out.
Where did you get this?
This is... This is my bag.
This is... Tell me!
that day and they asked me if I'd seen anything.
I said I hadn't.
That's a lie.
I guess it was like a week before mom and this thing, and I was having a major
fight with, you know, and I ran off into the forest,
but this time I ran out a little bit further, you know.
And then I stumbled.
These. Hundreds of these ashen bags.
It was, to this day, the strangest thing I have ever seen.
They were all covered in blood.
Mucus.
Smell.
So I opened one up and inside was
I guess parts of animals and one bag there was a dismembered torso.
Just cuts down the side.
The most afraid that I have ever been in my life.
And I ran and I ran and I ran.
I said nothing.
And then mum went missing and I went back out there to look for these bags
and they were gone.
All of them. Not a trace.
And now here it is.
And we saw it earlier and I've seen it before.
What are you saying, Tess?
I'm trying to figure this out, mate.
But we need to find out. And we need to confront him.
He still has that gun, doesn't he?
In the cabin, in the bathroom.
Has he still got it? Yeah.
Mate.
Mate, I can't find the gun!
Mike?
Right? Right!
Huh.
Lenny! Lenny! Lenny!
Lenny!
Hmm?
Thank you.
Hey, yeah, I knew it was gonna be you.
Hey.
Oh wait, slow down.
Where are you?
Cass!
Strain off.
Drop. Get buried.
Fire.
Fire.
Snake.
Snake.
Strain.
Drop. Drop.
Bye.
Let's get out of here buddy.
Who's there?
Thank you.
I want my tooth.
I want my tooth.
I think we should step down.
Let's go to the back hill.
The scenery is way nicer than here.
The scenery is beautiful.
It won't take long.
You picked this spot an hour ago. Yeah, I know, but I changed my mind.
We've set the tent up twice.
Please. It won't be too long.
How about you take the sleeping bag and go sleep on the chair? Okay, I'm happy
with that. I'll let you take the pink one. The pink one?
Righto. Is that all you got?
Uh, yeah.
Moving on for half an hour, picked up three bits of wood.
It's all I could find.
Look around!
Well, sorry.
There's plenty more down that way. Well, off you go.
Really? I just got back.
Can I at least have a drink?
Come on then.
Where are you going? To kill two birds with one stone Righto
My ideas are like strangers
They come from distant lands to meet
and greet my mind To show the fullness of their
nature There's always one more than you
thought you'd know And I want to tell you all
I wanna tell you everything
Now I wanna show you all
All my
sights At
heart we are all
My love is busy finding different ways to shine
To show the colors of its nature
There's always one more than you thought
you'd know
