Your magic's amazing, Musia.

You're getting better and better!

Thank you so much!

I'll work hard to become even more useful!

Even after winning, we don't get a break, huh?

Master really works us to the bone!

Carry those bricks to the western side.

Sir!

Put those by the gate.

Sir!

Seitz's advance unit of 40,000 was routed by Rietz's powerful leadership.

Talk of the Reaper of Louvent and his two magic warriors spread beyond Missian,

making its way through Seitz's forces, as well.

Man, those Seitz guys were pushovers, huh?

I didn't even work up a sweat.

You want to work up a sweat?

Then you can handle these, too.

Easy peasy!

I hope this is the end of things, but...

Forgive me, Commander Borotz!

It's fine. We've sized up the enemy.

I can see why the governor's willing to fight for what they have.

But you gave this chance to me, a supporter of the former governor,

and I've gone and disgraced you!

They've made quite an encampment.

It's easily defensible, even against a large force.

Their commander, Rietz, is a clever one.

Canarre, eh?

I'm even more interested than before.

Everyone!

It looks like Rietz and the others won!

That's our Rietz!

Driving back an army twice their size? It's amazing!

We can hope they'll back off for good, right?

I do hope so.

We routed them as planned.

The ball is in their court now, but...

Excuse me.

Could you send a messenger to the Louvent estate?

Impressive, isn't it?

What in the world are you rounding up all these deer for?

Okay, release the deer!

Send the hunting dogs and cavalry after them!

Drive them to the river!

Commander Borotz, what's this all about?

Just watch. You'll see soon enough.

They made it across!

Not quite yet...

That's our new crossing!

We'll ford the river here!

Yes, sir!

Commander Borotz...

He's incredible!

Lantorque.

S-Sir?!

The reason I appointed you to this operation

is because I know your leadership is sound.

I'm counting on you next time.

Yes, sir! I'll handle it!

Commander Rietz! Emergency!

Impossible! How could they rally so quickly?!

Well, they're definitely making their move!

If they make it across the river, we'll never hold out!

What's the situation?

At least 70,000 troops.

Seventy thousand?!

That's almost double their last force!

Aw, double's not so bad.

You can still pulverize 'em with your spells, right, Sis?

No.

We didn't bring any large catalyzers in our rush to get here.

We can't use a magic-centered plan like last time.

Wait, but that means...

We're in serious trouble here!

Defensive formation at once!

Long-range unit, prevent the enemy from crossing!

The enemy is getting into position!

Advance unit, activate defense spells!

Beware powerful magic attacks!

Long-range unit, ready!

Loose arrows!

Reitz brought 20,000 troops against an army of 70,000,

but Seitz's forces were energized.

Before the surging waves of soldiers,

their collapse was inevitable.

Hold fire! Withdraw for now!

Retreat on the double!

Leave anything we don't need!

They're on the run! Forward!

Clamant!

I'll serve as the rear guard to hold off their charge.

Will you support me?!

We can't afford to lose our commander.

I'll lead the rear guard.

No!

After being forced to call a retreat,

the commander is responsible for minimizing casualties!

I wish to lead it myself!

Master!

How's about I handle it?

Braham?!

Leave it to my elite unit!

You focus on giving orders—

This isn't a game!

Fighting on the run can compromise decision-making!

You don't have the experience for this!

I can do it!

I believe our unit is the strongest in Canarre!

That goes double if it's a tough mission!

And we're the best fighters after you, which means we should handle it!

That's what an elite unit's for, yeah?

Besides...

Ah, forget it!

Just let me at 'em, okay?

This is my moment to show off how much you've taught me!

Understood.

I entrust you with these 20,000 lives.

But I'll give you one more order...

Come back alive.

Sure, no prob!

Hey, refill our aqua magia already!

We're not gonna make it!

Musia!

I'm captain of the Canarre Army's elite unit,

Braham Joe!

I've got a question for you.

You guys got moms back home?!

If you want a chance to nap in your mama's arms again,

turn back right now!

But if you wanna leave her crying at your gravestone,

feel free to stick around!

Come on, men!

We've got to fight a force of 70,000 ourselves?!

Th-That's terrifying!

Hey, man!

Y-Yes?!

Dude, you're brave as hell!

You're trembling from excitement, right?

You're so eager to prove yourself as a man, you can't stop shaking!

You hear me?!

We're the craziest badasses in all of Canarre!

Tomorrow, everyone in Missian is gonna know our names!

Yeah, that's right!

Let's do it!

That goes for you too, right?!

Yes!

I get it.

I finally see why Ars has such high hopes for him.

Braham...

We've bought plenty of time.

The main force should be safe now.

It'd be dangerous for us to linger.

Got it.

C'mon, guys! Full-speed retreat!

You won't escape!

Break through!

Captain! Take my sword!

The hell are you doing?!

You guys go on! I'll catch up!

We gotta save the captain!

You idiot! There's too many of them!

There are more coming, too!

But we can't let him die!

Hey, this could work for me.

If I abandon him now, I'll be the new captain.

I never wanted to work under that little brat...

Vice Captain! Vice Captain!

Orders, sir!

Zaht!

You look after the unit!

And let Master know...

I'm sorry I couldn't carry out his orders!

Yeah, I'm a real idiot.

Nine years ago, when I was just eight years old...

Our unit outshone all you guys today!

Oh, please. We're the ones who did the most!

It's the men of House Joe.

I hear they fought brilliantly again today.

There's no way we'll lose with them on our side.

Big Bro! Dad!

Welcome back!

Thank you, Braham.

I can ride a horse now!

I hope I can be on the battlefield with you soon!

We'd love to have you.

But see this polearm passed down through the Joe family?

You're not a real man until you can swing it around.

From the time of my grandpa's grandpa,

House Joe was a family of warriors, primarily serving as cavalry.

Me, my dad, and my big bro would answer the call and travel all over Summerforth.

I couldn't even ride a horse properly and had no weapon,

so I'd stay behind the lines and support them from there.

But I knew that one day...

I'd get to ride one of those war horses, swing around a big weapon,

and be an awesome warrior like them.

Or so I thought, anyway.

Braham!

B-Big Bro!

You okay? Where's Dad?

I'm about to go save him. I need more weapons.

Yeah, Dad's a match for ten men, right?

Get out there and get it done, Bro!

Here.

Braham.

Hold on to this one.

But don't you need this?

Take it with you!

I won't need it to handle these losers.

Well, be back soon.

You'd better come back safe!

But my dad and my brother never returned.

Even after the campaign was over,

no one told me whether they were dead or alive.

They've been gone a while.

Hey.

You're the House Joe boy, right?

What're you doing here?

I'm waiting.

My brother and dad will be back soon.

Don't be an idiot.

They obviously died in battle.

Did not.

The rest of their unit said they did.

Well, they lied. My family'd never lose.

Then why aren't they back?

If they're alive and didn't come back,

that means they abandoned you, right?

Talk about a cruel family.

Shut up!

I won't let you talk bad about them!

My brother and father are still alive!

No matter what anyone says...

I believe in them!

Hey, kid...

I know.

This is it!

If I make a name for myself with this,

my dad and brother will have to notice!

I just have to become the greatest and most famous man in Summerforth!

Wait here until we get the signal.

Idiot!

My name is Braham Joe,

and I'm gonna be the greatest man in the world!

I'm gonna get stronger.

I'll get stronger and stronger, and I'll become famous...

And once I do...

I know they'll come back for me!

Braham!

Zaht, you...

Don't you dare give in! Get up right now!

But there's too many of them!

You gotta get away—

I thought you were Braham Joe!

I thought you were gonna be the greatest man in the world!

Damn it!

You'd better not throw your life away like trash!

One more fighter won't change anything!

Surround them!

Man, what a high-maintenance captain!

Thanks a bunch, Zaht!

I totally forgot for a sec...

I swore on this polearm that I'd do what I had to do...

And I won't die until then!

My name is Braham Joe,

and I'm gonna be the greatest man in the world!

He's bluffing! He's almost dead!

Go!

Captain!

Get on!

What can two of them alone do?!

Finish them off—

Captain! Don't go becoming a legend all by yourself!

You don't deserve an awesome death like that!

Man, you're all idiots just like me!

Okay, let's get outta here!

Don't let them get away! Pursue!

Looks like they're relenting.

Nice work.

Captain?

Hey, Captain!

For crying out loud...

Don't scare me like that.

They're back!

We made it!

The bastards did it!

They threw off a pursuit of 70,000!

Master!

Well done, Braham.

This is why you're my best student.

Yeah! I did good!

And here I figured you were done for.

Meanie!

Well, yeah!

Why does he remind me...

They're not even anything alike.

You're going already, Papa?

Just got a pretty good job offer in.

I'll be back in two weeks.

The lady across the way should look in on you.

You gotta understand.

I need money to take you to that doctor in the capital.

I know. But I'd rather have...

I know.

Once you're all better, we'll play all you like.

Okay. See you when you're back!

The only thing I remember from that time is fighting.

Fighting and fighting, trying to earn money...

And when I finally made it back home...

my son was dead.

Why didn't I...

My reason to fight was gone,

but I couldn't shake the guilt over not having enough money,

so I couldn't change my way of life.

No... it was because if I admitted that I'd made the wrong choice,

it probably would've broken me,

wondering why I didn't spend more time with him...

It's the same with him.

I don't feel any responsibility for him.

I'd be better off without him, in fact.

But was I going to sacrifice him, too, because of how I live my life?

My son was robbed of a future.

I can't just stand back as another child's future is extinguished!

Vice Captain Zaht!

We could follow your lead because you showed us the way!

Thank you!

Thank you!

I didn't do anything...

Zaht!

Maybe I didn't make the wrong choice this time.

I see.

Sounds like it was a hard fight.

Thank you for protecting our 20,000 troops.

You were the right person for the job, Rietz.

No, I still lost.

They have the momentum now. We must strike back swiftly.

It's not just Rietz and Charlotte.

Musia, Braham, and Zaht...

All of the new retainers worked hard to hold the line.

Now I have to match their enthusiasm.

The counterattack starts now!

It's our turn to take the offensive!

Braham did an amazing job, huh?

I'm proud of how far he's come.

Our counterattack starts now.

We'll protect Canarre no matter what!

Next time: "End of Hostilities."
