[? groovy music playing]
[Gloria] I appreciate you ladies meeting me on such short notice.
What? Are you kidding?
We should be thanking you.
I made a dozen of your recipes last week for Thanksgiving.
That lemon chiffon pie?
What?
The chiffon.
That pie is actually the reason I'm here today.
Would you ladies like to hear a recipe
I've never shared with anyone before?
- Gorgeous. - Of course.
Not so quick. It's a recipe for disaster.
You'll need two high school sweethearts, one tomato,
a heaping of success, and... tossed cranberries.
Winston and I met freshman year.
Married right after graduation,
had two boys, Augie and Alby.
He worked in his father's insurance company.
We weren't rich, but we got by.
He was the provider, and me,
I... took care of my three guys.
That's how Winston liked it.
And that's how I liked it, too.
Mac and cheese.
Until... my garden.
The day I tasted
my first homegrown heirloom tomato.
What started as a tiny seed underground
transformed with a little water and sunlight
into this lush, beautiful, life-sustaining thing.
What I felt in that moment was almost... jealousy.
I was 48 when I opened Food! Gloria's Food!,
an organic market and takeaway deli.
Fresh food made easy.
I did everything myself.
It was the hardest I'd ever worked and the best I'd ever felt.
I was releasing my inner child.
Whew!
Julia Child. [chuckles]
The business took off. Franchised, 25 locations.
I was booking spots on The Food Network.
And in that process, I had changed.
I became happy, confident.
I thrived in the sunlight.
But Winston, he preferred the version of me
that was like a seed.
[gags]
Out of sight.
Alone and small.
Which brings us to this Thanksgiving.
I had planned a magnificent menu,
a meal that represented me, my growth, my success.
But when Winston saw the recipes I was planning, he lost it.
What the hell is this?
Kohlrabi! [chuckles]
Huh. Whatever happened to cranberries from a can?
[Gloria] He demanded a traditional Thanksgiving
like we used to have.
Stuffing from a box, beans from a can.
- [Winston] Wha... - [Gloria] And of course, who could forget?
Look, you know what, why don't we stick
- with tuna noodle casserole. - [Gloria] Tuna noodle casserole.
And call it a day, huh?
[Gloria] Fine, I'll give him his casserole
and his clammy gray turkey
and his canned frozen menagerie of crap
all served on Fiestaware, of course.
Traditions of mediocrity.
But I was not going to stop me from being me,
giving myself what I deserved.
So I made two Thanksgivings
and I thought once they see the difference,
they'll finally get it.
They'll finally get me.
[? expectant music playing]
Boys! Dinner!
[chuckles]
What is all this shit?
It's festive, no?
The theme is Ancient Mariners.
[Gloria chuckles]
Well, can I move it? There's no room for my laptop.
Bon apptit.
[? expectant music continues]
[cutlery clinking]
[Winston] Mm, the dressing's good, isn't it?
Mom, where's the pie?
[Gloria] My crust takes three days to make,
so I only had time to make one pie.
A perfect lemon chiffon.
- Look. - [Augie] Oh, yeah.
Lemon? Bro, lemon is so gay.
Do you boys know how many of the pilgrims got scurvy
because they had no access to citrus, vitamin C?
If they'd had lemons,
- they likely would've- - Jesus, Gloria!
Thanksgiving! Pumpkin pie!
Can you do one thing right?
I don't know who you are anymore.
I'm the person who devoted her life to taking care of this family!
I'm the woman you vowed to honor and cherish 31 years ago!
[Winston] Yeah. [sighs]
Well... you don't look like her.
[all chuckling]
[? tense music playing]
- [chuckling continues] - [Winston] Aw, honey.
Oh, honey.
[Winston continues chuckling]
Just for you.
[? tense music playing]
Two high school sweethearts, one tomato,
a heaping of success, and tossed cranberry.
Bon apptit!
First, I want to say I'm so sorry.
You are understandably hurt, angry, and upset.
Second, I should tell you that most divorces
are filed between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Emotions run high during the holidays.
So I want to ask you,
are you sure you don't want to rethink this?
Very sure.
I don't want him to get a penny of my business.
I built a career in spite of him.
I'd rather lose everything than share it with him.
If that's the case, I hope he enjoyed that casserole
'cause it's the last morsel he's going to get from you.
You've built this entire career,
and he's not getting half of the pie.
He's not even getting a crumb, okay?
You're in good hands.
It's going to be a chef's kiss for you.
That's for damn sure.
?
[Liberty] Wait, did you guys all decide to go Ozempic without telling me?
[Dina] Well, I'm being virtuous today so I can sin properly tomorrow.
Oh, come on.
Bone dry turkey and under-seasoned root vegetables
hardly qualifies as sinning.
In fact, I've never understood why you Americans
don't go for tastier foods on your national day of gluttony.
Fair, but I've never understood
why the British just have terrible food year-round.
How dare you? I happen to love British food.
Jammie Dodgers, Scotch eggs.
- Spotted dick. - Spotted dick, exactly!
- You've heard of it. - Oh, I know spotted dick.
[all laughing]
For your information, Liberty,
I've never been accused of bone-dry turkey.
Every Thanksgiving Day,
Doug and I would invite rival studio heads to our house,
and he always joked that my beautiful heritage turkey
sealed more deals than he ever did.
Ah, this year is going to be an adjustment.
[Emerald] You doing okay, Dina?
You seem a little out of it.
Well, I think all of us are a little shook up
after that brush with death on the airplane.
For sure.
Not to mention the fact
that this holiday is getting on my damn nerves.
Every Thanksgiving, my boys show up late,
scarf down everything on the table, then, poof, they're gone.
And I'm left with a table that looks like a damn crime scene.
After the year that I've had,
I can't deal with 30 cousins at my mom's place,
so I'm hunkering down with Raul.
- Hunkering down with a hunk! - With a hunk! Uh!
- Jinx! - [Emerald laughs]
It's not like that. He works for me.
- We know. - Oh, yeah.
Well, let it be known that everyone is welcome at my table.
Hunks and children of all ages.
- Cheers to that. - Thank you.
Ms. Greene.
Sorry to disturb, but your sons are here to see you.
All of them are in my office?
Oh, boy.
This is going to be something.
[boys chattering]
- [Emerald] Alright. - [all exclaiming]
Hey. Hey, Mom.
[Emerald] Which one of y'all is in trouble,
and why did you need to bring backup, huh?
Who didn't use a condom?
- Dammit, Ezra! - [Egypt] Whoa! Okay!
[Ezra] That wasn't why I was laughing!
- Wait, no, Ma, it's not like that. - It's not.
No. Why me, bruh? Me and Simone have very safe sex.
I have to go back East tonight.
East as in Silver Lake?
Uh, Boston. Uh, back to school.
Linus Torvalds invited me for Thanksgiving.
- Linus Torvalds? - [Egypt] Mm-hmm.
Like the IKEA sofa?
No, that's Karlsson.
Torvalds is the inventor of the Linux kernel.
Right. Okay.
Well, more turkey for the rest of us.
- [Egypt] Mm-hmm. - [Emerald] Or not?
What, are y'all going to see Linus Tortoise, too?
No, I don't know the Turtles man.
But I did tell my girlfriend
that I would do Thanksgiving with her peoples.
- Girlfriend. - [Egypt] Girlfriend. You locked that in?
- [Ezra] It's official? - [Elijah] I locked it in.
And what about you?
Well, since he's going to go see Ava, good for you,
and he's seeing Tostitos man,
I figured that I could go camping with my friends?
Mm.
Can we, Mom, please miss Thanksgiving just this once?
Wow.
So I did all that shopping for nothing.
- No... - Because I have been shopping
and shopping, trying to make sure
I had everything for you boys.
Greens, beans, potatoes, lamb, yams, you name it!
Mm.
[Emerald] Mm.
You know what?
I am going to go ahead, and I'm going to allow it...
[all exclaim]
...on the condition
that you all come home at Christmas for a week.
- Absolutely. - Deal.
Give me some lamb to go and I got you.
- [Egypt] I'm gonna even go to school. - [Ezra] I got a pen.
[all laughing]
[Emerald] Bring it in. Zip in, bring it in.
I love y'all. Love you so much.
- Alright? - [Elijah] Yes, ma'am.
Y'all be safe. Don't embarrass me in these streets.
Who would do that?
And everybody use a condom!
I wear condoms!
- [Emerald] Ezra! - [Ezra] Whoa!
Thank you, sweet baby Jesus.
Yes!
[Chase] So dads get the shit end.
The shit end, Chase? Really? That's how you're going to start this?
Yeah, people don't think that dads love their kids
the same, but we do.
Capricorn is my daughter, too.
She has my eyes, my mom's eyes.
I've never missed a Thanksgiving in Ohio with her.
My daughter should be there.
I just want my parents to see that I did something great
and I'm not a fuck-up.
A fuck-up? How could you ever be a fuck-up, Chase?
You literally have a Super Bowl ring.
- You have it all, Chase! - [Dina] Milan.
- How could you possibly be a- - [Dina] Milan. Milan!
Milan.
I want you to listen, alright?
You asked me to come here to help you both communicate,
but right now, I want you to listen to what he has to say.
Chase, talk a little bit about your feelings as a father.
Yeah, my daughter belongs in Ohio.
Ohio?
How dare you say that about my daughter?
- Ohio? - What's wrong with Ohio?
Why don't we just do a coin toss?
- Fine. - Sure.
So the winner gets Capricorn for Thanksgiving.
The loser gets her for Christmas.
- Fair. I'll take tails. - Nope, I'm tails.
What does it matter?
- It's literally a random- - It matters. It matters.
I want tails.
- I'll take heads. - Okay.
- Heads. - Fuck.
I'm sorry, Chase.
[sighs] Okay. Christmas, yeah.
I can do Christmas. That's fair.
I just want to be there, like from the beginning.
And I don't want her to think that I was halfway.
I want her to know that I love her.
Like, I really love her.
And I'm not going anywhere.
Sorry. I'm going to go to the bathroom.
[? soft music playing]
Thank you.
Just a coin toss.
He seems like a good father.
[Milan] He is.
He is.
And that's why I fell in love with him.
I fell in love with his confidence,
his charm.
But I think what I wanted the most was this part of him.
You know, this side that is soft,
that hurts, and that loves so deeply.
The side that you're still haunted by.
Yeah.
[sighs] What about you? How are you feeling?
You feel a little heavy today.
Yeah, I have been feeling a little shook up lately.
I suppose it's,
it's all the death and incarceration
and, and scorpions
and two plane engines blowing up.
It's just, uh, you know, a louder pace than I'd like.
It's a lot.
It's a lot.
[? serene music playing]
[distant sirens wailing]
I made this for myself,
but you look like you could use a cup of coffee.
Is there something stronger,
like a strong shot of bourbon?
Uh-oh.
What's weighing you down?
Is your health okay?
Oh, yeah. It's nothing like that.
I haven't been honest with you.
I haven't been honest with myself.
You know you could tell me anything, Dina.
Yeah. I know.
Do you remember when we were on the plane and we were discussing our regrets?
I do.
Well, um, I should have admitted
that there is something in my past
that I've never fully faced
and can't run away from anymore.
[inhales deeply]
[exhales sharply]
?
[? upbeat music playing]
Hello, Liberty.
What a pretty red lip.
Hello, everyone.
Is today the day we finally tie this thing up in a bow?
Dare to dream, Your Honor.
[clears throat] Mr. Bloom receives the New York apartment,
the Malibu residence, the art collection,
and quite the payout, if I may say so.
Ms. Bloom retains the business and all associated assets.
Well, that sounds uncharacteristically reasonable
for a mediation that has dragged on since the dawn of time.
[chuckles] Well, Your Honor, my client does have
one outstanding request.
- There we go. - [Carr] My client requests
the original recipe
for Mrs. Bloom's tuna noodle casserole.
- The what? - Tuna noodle casserole.
I don't know. It's peanut butter, celery, and raisins or something.
- No, that's Ants on a Log. - Well, I'm not a chef.
We call it Creepy-Crawlies-Upon-Timber.
Well, whatever it's called, my client wants it.
Apparently, you served it your first Thanksgiving together.
Are you okay with that?
I'd rather die.
Oh, boy.
You are a real piece of work, you know that?
- [Gloria] Oh, yeah? - Yeah.
I must have told you that recipe 100 times,
but you never listened.
- Enough. - You know, you just never,
ever, ever, ever, ever listened.
- I'm doing my best. The reason- - It makes me wanna...
- ...makes me wanna strangle you! - The reason my brother even got that DUI
was because you were too busy to take your own kids ice skating!
Oh, it's my fault Gary thought caffeine canceled out alcohol?
- [Winston] You're never wrong- - Enough! Enough!
Both of you, sit down.
Counselors, if you can't get your clients to figure this out now,
I don't think this thing's getting settled
outside of a courtroom.
Now, if this is not resolved tomorrow,
I will vacate the settlement
and you can all start over with another mediator.
- Tomorrow? - Yes.
I am aware tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day.
If the Pilgrims and the Indians can work out their differences,
so can Gloria and Winston Bloom.
Uh, the Native Americans hardly worked out-
Adjourned.
Well, pass the damn cranberry sauce.
Pass the smallpox blanket.
[Emerald laughs]
[coughs]
Oh, just give him any fucking recipe.
He's not gonna know the difference.
And risk committing fraud? No.
No, nothing good ever comes from lying.
I mean, you should know. I would never misrepresent the truth.
Ha, what is this little outburst about?
Dina's just been sensitive
since our brush with death on that plane ride from hell.
But maybe that's only something that a person with a soul could relate to.
Oh, come on.
I mean, it wasn't that bad. I wasn't even scared.
You all were freaking out.
Okay, girl, your nose is growing.
- Well, I wasn't scared. - [Allura] Okay.
What about just calling his bluff?
He's not going to blow up this entire deal over a tuna casserole.
I don't know, he seems pretty hellbent on, uh, humiliating her.
It's this holiday of yours, guys.
Thanksgiving makes everyone insane.
You sound like my daughter.
Amabel refuses to observe Thanksgiving on ethical grounds.
Because of the genocide of Native Americans?
- Because eating at 4:00 p.m. is immoral. - [chuckles]
Tomorrow is going to be a very long day.
- [Liberty] Oof. - Indeed.
[door opens]
[Gloria] Good evening, ladies.
I know I ruined your Thanksgiving but if you'll indulge me,
I will provide you with one you shall never forget.
We'll start with the roasted butternut squash soup,
finished with brown butter and sage.
Shaved fennel and pear salad with candied walnuts
and champagne vinaigrette.
A perfectly crisp-skinned heritage turkey
with pan drippings and a bourbon gravy.
Truffle mashed potatoes, wild mushroom stuffing.
Roasted carrots with thyme and honey.
And a lemon chiffon
that melts the second it hits your tongue.
Mmm, hot damn!
I think I'm starting to understand Thanksgiving after all.
[Dina] I don't understand.
It's Thanksgiving Day and you're not in Ohio.
I thought it was really important to you to be with your mother.
It was a tough call.
I love my mom,
but I had to let her know that my family is here now.
Thankfully, she understood.
Milan, why are you even here today?
'Cause I wanted to support the firm, you know, my girls.
And, plus, it didn't make sense to fly to my family for a quick weekend.
The baby hasn't flown on a plane yet, so here I am.
And, apparently, here is Chase.
And it's really, really cool.
It's really nice to see how much he cares.
So why don't you let Capricorn
have a nap here with the nanny and come downstairs
when everything's settled and dinner's served?
It's up to Milan.
Sure.
You can help me put her down for a nap.
Okay.
[Dina] And Carr?
What about your girlfriend? What does she feel about all this?
She understands.
She appreciates my responsibility to my child.
She's cool about it.
Awful about almost everything else
but cool about my kid.
- Good. We've got a plan. - [Chase] Yeah.
[? gentle music playing]
[Milan] [whispering] You need to take a nap.
[Gloria] To start, fig and cheese toast,
a farro salad,
butternut squash salad with walnuts and vinaigrette,
deviled eggs with crme frache and Ossetra caviar,
stuffed mushrooms.
So, uh, please tell me you've had better luck
with your client than I've had with mine?
- [Gloria] Prosciutto pinwheels. - Sadly, no.
- She won't give up the recipe. - [Gloria] Charcuterie board.
- Can I help? - [Gloria] Sweet potato crostini.
Uh, yeah.
Sanddabs on Japanese milk bread with nopales jam.
- Thank you. - Sure.
What?
[Gloria] Oh, enough chit-chat.
Bon apptit.
Cool your jets, Julia Mild.
There's one more dish.
Carr, you didn't have to bring anything.
[Carr] Well, of course, I did.
[rustling]
It's Pretzel Jell-O Loaf Surprise.
- What's in it? - Simple, from nature.
It's pretzel sticks steeped overnight
in supermarket brandy,
thinly sliced pepperoncinis, dry.
If you can't find them dry, just throw in wet ones.
Any flavor of Jell-O mix.
I happen to like sugar-free orange,
but you make that gelatin
by boiling it with Sprite, not water.
[? bright music playing]
Pop it in the fridge, let it sit for 15, 20 minutes,
let it get all jiggly.
Then you set that shit outside
and you leave it there overnight.
You finish with a dusting of cayenne.
[in French] Et voil.
Pretzel Jell-O Loaf Surprise.
And what's the surprise?
- Huh? - Pretzel Jell-O Loaf Surprise?
Well, the surprise comes after you eat it.
Oh, right.
And is it a, uh, traditional American recipe?
Well, it became a Lane family tradition
because I invented it one night as a kid
and my mom just lit up like a Christmas tree.
She left me alone a lot for days when I was little
with nothing but a pantry full of expired ingredients
and a stool to reach the stove.
And she would scream, "I'm gonna go fuck up this town,
"and when I come back, there better be
a Pretzel Jell-O Loaf Surprise waitin' for me."
And sure enough, a few days later, she would stumble back in,
a cigar in her mouth, soaking wet for God knows why,
and she would beeline for that Jell-O,
scoop me up in her arms and gobble it down.
Oh, Mama.
- [Emerald] Carr. - Mm.
Th-that-that's not a good memory.
That's a terrible memory from a terrible childhood.
You think I don't know my parents were monsters?
I mean, I used to confide in this stuff with you, Em.
Back when you used to talk to me.
We would go get our quick poor-person lunch at Applebee's
and dine and dash.
And for the record, my mother, she meant well.
And so she made a few mistakes.
So...
Who wants a taste?
[? expectant music playing]
Uh...
Oh.
I'll take a bite.
I don't normally like sweets, but...
I'll give it a go.
Let's see.
Yeah, I mean the wobblier, the better.
That's where the flavor kind of, like
- explodes in your mouth. - Keeps slipping off.
That's a big one.
[gasps]
Oh. [chuckles]
- Mmm. - That sound is my favorite part.
Two words.
Yum-my!
- Mm! - [Carr] You want more?
- Mm-hmm. - See?
Mm, mm, mm!
See? She likes it.
[Liberty] It's good!
What the hell are you doing?
What?
Since when did you become besties with Carr?
- We're not besties- - [Emerald stammering]
[Emerald] What the hell are you doing?
[Liberty] I don't know, we went to a concert, alright?
And it doesn't mean we're close.
Wait, what? When? What concert?
Brandi Carlile!
What in the lesbian hell?
[? bright music playing]
What's cooking, bitches?
- Ah, there she is! - Get your ass over here, girl!
Oh, Happy Thanksgiving.
I didn't know we were going to see you!
Why burn a turkey at home
when Gloria Bloom is cooking at your office?
- [Emerald] That's right. - This looks amazing.
Yeah. Well, I made it.
I made it with my bare hands, so enjoy.
So.
What in the world are you eating?
I have no idea.
But it's quite good.
Really good.
Perfect timing. It's showtime, folks!
[? bright instrumental music playing]
[Dina] Ah!
[guests applauding]
[? bright instrumental music continues]
[indistinct chatter]
You have outdone yourself!
?
[clinking on glass]
Ah, and finally the pice de rsistance,
my signature American heirloom kettle-braised turkey.
You can find the recipe in my book,
Mastering the Art of the Holiday.
I don't know about you, but I'm so ready to dig in.
[Emerald] Right, doesn't he have to taste-test all your food first?
No, it's fine.
I'm on a peptide fat burner,
so I'm not even going to eat enough to risk being poisoned.
You are always up to something.
Well, now that we've all had a chance to marvel at this magnificent bird,
it's time to eat,
and then you ladies can return to settling my case.
Young man, would you please carve the turkey for us?
I would love to, Gloria.
I did want to insist that, uh, Ms. Dina Standish do the honors.
I understand she's a descendant of the Mayflower Pilgrims.
- I only think that it's right. - Uh, isn't that your...
Yes, it's my favorite subject, the Mayflower Pilgrims.
I don't know how this young man would know that,
but, uh, I am indeed a direct descendant
of the original Mayflower Pilgrims.
Ours was the first Pilgrim family to taste Wampanoag turkey,
so I would be very pleased to carve it for everyone.
Could you please take it into the break room?
I'd rather carve it there.
Spare everyone from a torrential downpour of avian debris.
Of course, Ms. Standish.
[Emerald] Now, wait a damn minute.
Is that Dina's boy toy?
The Richie Rich she was telling us about on the plane?
I think he has real feelings for her.
- I saw the way he looked at her. - [Emerald] Wow!
- It's genuine. - [Carr] Oh, my God.
The two of them together are like a science experiment.
I mean, him all nubile and cummy
and her totally bygone and decrepit.
I mean, just, just imagine them fucking.
Like a slap-happy puppy
humping up against a bag of dried dead birds.
I mean, I bet if they had a baby, it would just pop out middle-aged.
[chuckles]
Mm. Mm-mm-mm.
You are fucking weird.
[knife clanging]
[Brody] You know, you're quite the maestro with that.
Though you are reminding me quite a bit of Lizzie Borden.
[door closes]
I can sense that you're upset, and I know that it's because I'm here.
Yeah, I really could have used a heads-up about this, Brody.
You should have told me you were working this dinner.
You know, I thought you'd enjoy the surprise.
Dina, you are so impressive.
Your drive, your grit.
I have that in me, too.
I hope you can understand...
that I have a dream.
I want to be a chef.
I want to be a great chef,
and having the chance to work under Gloria Bloom,
that is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
I had to be here.
You want to be a great chef?
Well, that requires refined taste,
intense passion, and true commitment.
You don't think I have those qualities?
Intense passion?
Yeah, I've sensed that in you.
True commitment.
It's a little early for me to tell on that one.
I can be a very committed man, believe me.
[? romantic music playing]
If you want me to go,
I will go. I understand.
No.
- No? - No.
No, I want you to stay.
You should have this experience.
- Under one condition. - What is that?
You learn the Dina Standish method of turkey carving.
[Dina laughs]
[indistinct chatter]
Oh, my word.
What do you call this?
I don't think I've ever tasted anything quite like it.
What is it?
Suck a mustache?
Succotash.
It's a traditional Narragansett dish.
I lived with the tribe for two months to learn how they prepare it.
This is my own interpretation, of course.
I'm sorry if I went overboard,
but it was the least I could do
given that you're all working through the holiday.
Yeah, well, that, uh, tuna noodle casserole
would go a long way forgiveness-wise.
Not a chance.
Winston has a better chance
of seeing his own dick over his gut
than he does that recipe.
- Lovely. - [Carr] Thank you.
Thank you for that incredibly nauseating image.
[whispering] Allura! Allura!
That's crazy. How did you get this?
An M-9 Bayonet.
Albanian terrorist had taken
the CEO of Nespresso hostage.
Everybody made it out okay, except the terrorists.
Wow.
What about this?
[Liberty] Have some of mine.
- You want me to eat that thing? - Why not?
[Carr and Liberty chuckling]
Oh.
- Mm, you're still... - [Carr] Mm-hmm.
Look at you go.
[Raul] Do you know the movie Jaws?
Oh, my God. You got attacked by a shark?
[Raul] As a young boy, I was pinched
by a folding seat while seeing the movie Jaws.
You're so brave.
No, it was just a chair.
Oh, I meant for eating all of the pretzel Jell-O.
[clinking on glass]
I want to say that I am so thankful
to be sharing this weird
and confusingly romantic dinner with you all,
but it's time to get down to business.
Yes. Um, you're absolutely right.
E-everyone who is not involved in this case,
could you please excuse yourselves?
Would you mind, Raul?
I'll be right outside standing guard at the door.
Excuse me.
I'm going to go feed the baby.
Yeah. I'll come with you.
It's fine, babe. I'll be right back.
It's fine.
[door closes]
Okay, turkeys, let's talk tuna.
Gloria, where are you in all this?
Talk us through your present emotional state.
No, pass.
Gloria, the only thing we need to hear from you
is a list of ingredients.
Cup of tuna, mayonnaise, salt, a pinch of bullshit.
Watch it, Carr. Let's try to resist our baser human instincts.
I'm not threatened by her. She's just bitter.
A flavor profile that is rarely welcome.
Why don't you just give us the fucking recipe? How about that?
That way, we can finish our meal, go home,
and pass gas like everyone else on Thanksgiving.
No. No recipe.
I've given him everything, all of myself,
but the kitchen is the one place he can't take from me.
It's a room of my own.
Oh, don't tell me there's been an outbreak of feminism.
Withholding a recipe from your ex
isn't a win for women, it's a loss.
A loss for all the women in this room
who are here on fucking Thanksgiving because of you.
- Because of me? - [Carr] Yeah.
What about you?
Why don't you do your job
and get Winston to change his mind?
Okay. Simmer down.
And Gloria, yesterday, I hired professional taste testers
to assess your casserole.
Now, they retro-engineered it to figure out the recipe.
- [Carr] Mm. - They came up with a list of ingredients.
I want you to take a look at it.
If it is correct, nod your head,
and we'll be done with this.
Short and sweet.
[? suspenseful music playing]
Pretty good, right?
[paper crumpling]
- Not even close. - [Emerald] Wow.
Jesus Christ.
What's missing?
Oh, only the most important part, the secret ingredient.
And what would that be, you prideful gastronomic sadist?
Paprika, love, a sprinkling of domestic goddess
bullshit fairy dust?
I mean, you are holding us hostage
over a dish you'd find on a crime scene in a trailer park.
This is not... just a tuna noodle casserole.
This is my grandmother's tuna noodle casserole.
Don't you dare tell us a story about your goddamn grandmother right now.
I swear to God, I will die on the spot.
When I was a girl, my grandmother taught me
the same tuna casserole recipe she learned from her grandmother,
who learned from her grandmother.
Each generation of women adding their own twist,
little bit of themselves,
and not one of them had to write it down.
I learned from watching her, from spending time with her.
That wasn't a recipe she was passing down.
It was love.
If Winston had spent time with me, as I had her,
he would know the recipe too.
- So, Carr? - Yeah.
To simply tell him would be to violate
the spirit of my grandmother's gift.
[? upbeat music playing]
[exhales]
[stomach rumbling]
[belches]
[in Portuguese] Nossa Senhora.
[stomach rumbling]
[? suspenseful music playing]
[tires screeching]
[? suspenseful music continues]
I hate to fuckin' break it to you,
but your grandmother's ghost is fucking us all!
- [Emerald] Carr! - Okay. Enough, both of you.
We need to find a solution.
Okay, I have one question, if I may.
Em, where did you acquire the sample of the casserole for the taste testers?
I got it from Gloria's store.
So you sell this?
At all the locations.
At the hot bar right next to the wasabi salmon.
I'm sorry, I didn't realize
this was a dish that was available for purchase.
- Yeah. [chuckles] - [Liberty] So you're telling me
it's not the legal rights that he's after,
he just wants the recipe for something that he can go out
and buy any day of his life.
That is a power play.
Yes. Thank you.
[indistinct radio chatter]
[security guard] Can I help you?
Oh, uh, I'm late.
Uh, tenth floor, right?
You know, the other guys showed up hours ago.
Yeah, I know. They forgot the dessert.
Uh, that's why I really need to get up there.
[security guard] I just have to see your ID.
Oh, damn, man.
Uh, yeah, you know, I don't have that on me.
Um...
uniform is ID enough.
- Uh... - Come on,
I really can't afford to lose this job.
I'll just run this up. Five minutes.
Oh, come on. It's Thanksgiving.
Look, I, I want to help you out, but I got a boss, too.
I got to at least just call up with your name.
Well, that's too bad.
- [gunshot] - What if we set him up
with a lifetime supply?
What if that's the give?
Carr, you think that's something
- your stubborn-ass client would agree to? - [phone chimes]
I can ask.
Okay. Um, excuse me, ladies, I got to take this.
Talk amongst yourselves.
Okay, Gloria.
Are you comfortable with this?
As long as it's not the recipe.
- [door closes] - [Dina chuckles]
[Raul retching]
[speaking Portuguese]
[heels clacking]
- [? gentle music playing] - [Capricorn cooing]
Mike, are you absolutely certain about this?
[? suspenseful music playing]
Wow. Alright.
Thank you.
[phone clatters on desk]
[exhales]
My God.
My God on today.
- How did it go? - How did what go?
- The call with Winston. - Oh, I, uh, haven't done it yet.
I will.
Okay.
So, uh...
Chase and Milan, huh?
Are you okay?
Yeah. [chuckles]
You look pale.
I don't know why I always feel so unchosen...
like there's something wrong with me.
Like I'm cursed.
[elevator whirring]
Hey, why don't you come to my office and we can chat?
Okay.
Come on then.
Mm-hmm. Mm.
Mm-hmm. Lemon?
No, but close.
Did you put orange peel on this?
Ah, you bet your bottom dollar!
It just really brightens the taste.
[quiet whispering]
Excuse me for a moment.
[? tense music playing]
[elevator dings]
[? slow, tense music playing]
[? dramatic music playing]
Allura Grant?
This is the last Thanksgiving you'll ever have on earth.
[? intense music playing]
[? bright, upbeat music playing]
