It's been called the biggest reunion in pop...
They were the youngest band to ever headline Wembley Stadium,
and the last time brothers Matt and Luke Goss
performed together at all was there, nearly 30 years ago.
'80s boyband Bros are preparing to perform live,
28 years to the day after their last show.
The boys are back together and about to play the O2.
I am missing that relationship with my brother
that I literally woke up in tears this morning.
Because I just want the relationship with my brother.
I don't want to know about 50...
You can have a 100% shareholding in Bros. I don't care about that.
I'm not saying about business. Don't bring up the 50%, 50%.
Let's not talk about that. Let's talk about being brothers.
I'm going to defend myself. I'm not scared of you, man.
I'm not going to be that guy.
I broke yesterday, Luke, emotionally.
I'm completely not over it.
If you think just because you tell me to be... I was embarrassed.
I'm learning my instruments still... No, let's not... Hang on.
I'm learning... Don't shut me down. I'm going to speak. Listen.
All right, Luke. I'm going to speak. I'm going to speak.
You're going to speak, are you? You're going to speak?
Cos I just told you how I feel.
Go fuck yourself. Go fuck yourself. Let me tell you... Go fuck yourself.
Are you ready to rock? AUDIENCE SCREAM AND CHEER
I said, are you ready to rock?
AUDIENCE SCREAM
MUSIC: When Will I Be Famous?
♫ Yeah, yeah
♫ Oh, yeah
♫ Everybody... ♫
You gotta go mad, it's the last song. Come on.
Come on!
♫ When will I, will I be famous?
♫ I can't answer, I can't answer that
♫ When will I see my picture in the paper?
♫ I can't answer, I can't answer that
♫ When will I, will I be famous?
♫ I can't answer, I can't answer that
♫ When will I see my picture in the paper?
♫ I can't answer, I can't answer that
♫ When will I, will I be famous?
♫ When will I, will I be famous?
♫ I can't answer, I can't answer that
♫ When will I, will I be famous?
♫ I can't answer, I can't answer that
♫ When will I, will I be famous? ♫
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
Do you know "once bitten, twice shy"?
20 times bitten, a little shy.
I didn't have a plan.
I just needed to say,
"You know what? I don't even know where North is right now."
So I moved to LA to have some real estate that wasn't contaminated.
I'm a London boy. Um..
Big Ben. The Embankment. Cab drivers.
Being a twin is actually something you've got to get used to.
Because when you're born, just, there's your brother.
And then you realise you're a twin, and then an identical twin.
I think you have to find a place of truth and authenticity
as quick as you can.
Because, if you don't,
you'll always be trying to be the person you've created.
My journey has been about finding my own voice, I guess.
And that's why film is,
creatively speaking and professionally speaking,
the love of my life.
Scene 133, take one! B-cam only.
I think I did a whole movie with Luke
before I knew that he had had this prior career.
He throws himself into whatever he does.
He's incredibly invested as a performer.
You have to feel like you get up in the morning,
you put on a pair of jeans, you stick on a T-shirt,
and you walk into a room and do what you do,
and you've got to feel represented by your heart
and know that there are compromises.
He's a great asset. Guillermo del Toro adores him.
I'm digging the life I have.
You know, it's all about creativity now, the whole thing.
You doing OK?
So I'm... I'm just taking a break from the edit suite.
I'm cutting my movie, Your Move, and it's been a 2½-year process.
It's 6½ years since I wrote it.
And I'm ten days away from finishing it.
I saw everything.
He hit my wife, I think he has our daughter.
This is actually one of the most, er...
..traumatic things to cut because it's the attack
at the beginning of the movie.
SCREAMING
Can I see take five? Sure.
So this is an actor I found, through a situation that kind of...
Something went really bad while we were shooting,
and, thank God, we found this beautiful actor
and now dear friend, Alain Mora.
Run, baby.
Run-n-n-n!
Home is where I'm working. Home is where I'm filming.
I was in the jungle for nine weeks and I was in the desert for six.
You know, I was in India for four months. It's journeys, you know.
And that's home.
I think the letters H-O-M-E are so important because they...
..personify the word "home",
which means it's the place that you come and you feel safe.
This is my little cave area where I just chill out.
And you see it's got this huge crystal next to me.
I have crystals everywhere.
I'm not a hippy, but I believe in energy with every fibre of my soul.
Chess, love a bit of chess. Got the, er...
I have a few glasses of Scotch, a long game of Sco... Er...
Long game of chess. Love it.
Over here I've got the picture of me and Muhammad Ali.
I don't allow arguments in this house.
You know, if you want to argue in this house, you've got to leave.
Here is the little kind of conversational corner.
I have a rule in my house. If you break it, you fix it.
But you can break anything you want.
This is one of the loves of my life. This is Alfie, my bulldog.
I got him painted. I had him painted holding a pint of beer.
It's not a place where you can't move the cushions
or you can't just crash and throw everything in the air.
As long as you, when you leave, you know, make the bed!
Here's our motley crew. Hello, lovely, how are you doing?
When I'm writing songs, sometimes I write so quickly
that I'm not quite sure of what I'm writing.
A lot will be scribbles,
and then sometimes it will just all make sense.
♫ We-e-e-ell.... ♫
But we have a very unique telepathy. You have to have telepathy.
He's one of the few people who can actually keep up with me.
Cos there'll be maybe 100 tracks of backing vocals
and every single backing vocal on this track is me.
We call it the Matt Goss-pel Choir.
One of my songs is called We're All kings.
Which is a song about, basically, if you see a man sweeping the road,
that man's a king to me.
He's one of my kings because...
..I'm thankful that I don't have to sweep the road.
Probably one of my favourite songs that I've ever written in my life.
It's on an album called Life You Imagine.
And it's the higher key now. So it's...
♫ Like roses can't live forever
♫ When they've been cut by the stem... ♫
I was watching the news, you know, I'm obsessed.
It actually, ironically, relaxes me. I watch the news.
If I don't feel informed... If I don't feel informed,
I just don't feel like I can go about my day properly.
And I'm obsessed with like CNN, that's my late night.
I think it's the thinking man's reality show.
I remember people saying to me, "Please don't go,
"please don't leave Britain."
I just had a sixth sense within my blood
that it was time to get out of this war zone.
I just went down to the studio, really to go listen to him.
And I was just, you know, of course, like, completely blown away.
I couldn't believe, I'm like, "How is it that the world..." -
I'm talking every single person in the world -
"..doesn't know who you are?"
I talked to Matt about it and I said,
"You know, I really feel like you could have a Vegas residency."
BIG BAND MUSIC PLAYS
It was highly popular right away.
Matt was something completely different.
Nobody came away, ever, ever, and said they didn't like the show.
I started at The Palms as a year residency.
Ceasars, 6½ years.
Everything you think you know about the music industry,
you can pretty much put it in the bin and put it in the trash
and start again. You have to start again when you come to this town.
I was very pleased to present Matt with an Icon Award.
I mean, you have to look all the way back to Frank Sinatra
to find someone that's sort of occupied
the same space at Caesars Palace.
I do believe it's the greatest show this town has ever seen. Period.
I am still proud that I came to a completely different country,
was completely unknown,
and just started to chip away again with a butter knife
at a very big tree!
And I've... You know, I've said "timber" on quite a few trees now
with that blunt butter knife.
And I can assure you,
it's quickly turning into a very, very efficient tool.
I come up here, you know, to get away from everything.
There's nothing up here but your thoughts and a 360 view.
This is, like, 15 minutes from my house
and I think being born in London, I have a love of concrete.
It's really weird. And stone, you know?
Every time you see that view, you know how lucky you are.
You know, I think we let things pass us by sometimes a bit quickly.
CHEERING
Pain, loneliness, isolation. It all comes with fame.
When I'm on stage, the safest, happiest place on Earth.
TERRY WOGAN: Have you guys thought what you're going to do
when that screaming stops?
I mean, has it changed you perceptibly?
I mean, if you analyse yourself and think about it,
has it made you different people?
Me and Luke, we're not as close as I would like.
He is busy obviously doing his career and I'm busy doing mine.
There's been tension on and off for a good decade.
I'm not going to pretend that we've been speaking all the time,
and it's all kumbaya, cos it hasn't been.
I don't feel he's always understood me, and that's the truth.
Technically, I am his little brother.
I'm 11 minutes younger than him.
But my reality is that sometimes I've felt like the big brother.
Family can be challenging, you know.
You say stuff and hear stuff from your family
that you just would never experience from a friend.
But, for some reason, family just...
They abuse each other sometimes, you know.
I'll be landing on the 23rd.
First time in over a quarter of a century, as a Bros member,
who's flying in to do some shows, and I'm quietly excited.
The thing is, you don't want to get too excited because if you go there
and they're mean, you get your little heart broken again.
I guess it would be safe to say I'm a little cautious of the UK.
The UK itself, as a country, turned on me.
Every name under the sun was yelled at me.
Bros has never been something that the country was proud of.
It's not easy.
I mean, it's part of the gig, but I have never had a thick enough skin
that it doesn't impact me or hurt me, or... It sucks.
Take care. All the very best. And to you. Aw, bye.
SCREAMING
Hello!
You smell nice.
Hello.
Are you well?
INAUDIBLE
You can feel it, can't you? The aura.
Every person on this planet deserves their band.
If you don't play any more, you're denying fans
a slice of their nostalgia, their memories, their childhood.
And I, by not wanting to do this, was denying them that.
With most bands, the first thing you're going to hear is the drummer.
You make a mistake, everyone's going to hear it.
I know I'll be crapping myself. I'll be very, very nervous.
It's very intimidating.
It makes you feel somewhat vulnerable, if I'm honest.
Fuck me.
Look at these heads.
Wow! Do you like? No, I love it.
This is my first kit for a quarter of a century.
Tama Drums and Zildjian Cymbals.
Any drummer out there will know what that means.
It means that I'm a spoilt brat. And I can live with that!
Can we turn the AC off a little bit? Do you mind?
Sorry, I don't have the body fat that you guys have.
THEY LAUGH
Music, for me, was something
that was given to both my brother and myself.
It was given to us by our mother and her love of music.
She always danced and she would love music from the '50s and '60s -
mainly '60s and '70s.
I made a conscious decision because of Stevie Wonder
to not be superstitious.
Just an endless energy of music. That's what it was.
It was something that was in our blood.
My brother was in a band and they needed a singer.
I said, "Can I audition?"
I think cos nobody else turned up to the audition,
I just got the job by default.
It was hilarious because we had so many names of different bands.
Every week, we changed our band.
I don't even know. There was names like Summerhouse, Gloss, Caviar.
We had no idea what it was.
We just knew it was expensive, and then we found out it was fish eggs,
we thought, "It's probably not a good look for a band, Caviar."
We had Epitome, which I believe is Latin for abstract.
That was our little kind of "let's try and be clever" moment.
I think we were called Ice, which is just fucking horrible.
HE SCOFFS
Shitty names!
But, er...
We were fucking brothers, for God's sake.
Bros - it makes sense, doesn't it?
You know, we didn't audition. Bros was before the audition times.
We were discovered, like the old days.
We did a show up in Newcastle.
The first show that we did where there was some sparks in the air
and there was a bit of magic going on,
but there was a buzz in the audience.
The audience went nuts.
They weren't like Brosettes at that point,
they were just digging what was going on.
And we did have a moment where we thought,
"Something might happen here."
We're heading towards the airport.
It's game on now, really. It's game on. You know? It's...
I'm going home.
Actually really genuinely feels like I'm going home.
I cannot wait to just get home.
Go to Shepherd Market, have a cup of tea, go to St James' Park.
Thank you, British Airways, for making me feel so comfortable.
Really and genuinely always make me feel like I'm at home.
We're not quite ready yet. Mm?
We're not quite ready.
They're not quite ready yet.
Can't go anywhere without my 1950s bandanna when I go to sleep.
It's a part of my little idiosyncrasies!
As we take off right now, I can tell you...
..Bros is back right now. As of right now.
What would you say if I told you I'd never heard of Bros until yesterday?
I'd say you were born yesterday.
SCREAMING
It was almost immediate. There was no learning curve.
Within six months, we were globally known.
It's ironic.
Guess who I'm going to present this to?
Bros.
Not only did you get best group, but you got best single as well.
We just got best single!
Japan and Australia, London, Germany, Spain, Italy, France,
Scandinavia, South America, Canada.
One group happens to literally have swept the whole board.
SCREAMING
It's the winners of the entire world,
Bros!
We created mayhem and mania wherever we went.
SCREAMING
There was a rebellion around us that's never been acknowledged.
Are you excited? Of course I am.
I think she's a bit overcome. I love Bros! I love them!
I love you. I love you. I love you.
I love you forever. Thank you so much. Bye-bye.
What is it about Bros that you like so much?
They're just so gorgeous.
Just their hair and face. So good-looking!
There was a uniform. Ripped jeans, white T-shirt,
bandanna and Doc Martens.
And a biker jacket.
We went round the whole entire planet,
selling out arenas and stadiums.
It's OK to say I was one of the most recognisable people in the world
at that point.
Thank you very much. It was lovely to meet you.
We'll see you soon.
I'm so glad you're back.
MUSIC: The Wanderer by Dion
His voice, his music, he's very gorgeously lovely.
He's sensitive, he's funny. He's just the perfect guy, really.
He makes it difficult for every other guy on the planet.
When I was about age eight, I made this.
He's always been my favourite, Matt has.
Matt!
It's so good to be home, you know what I mean?
People are so lovely.
I feel like I'm part of the family. Big, big family.
When that was on, the I Quit video, I used to watch it over and over.
And I wanted to stick my finger in that hole so badly.
I didn't know much about the male anatomy at the age of 14,
but, my God, I knew I wanted to stick my finger in that hole
really, really badly.
We all feel like teenagers today!
SCREAMING
Hello!
Oh, my God.
All right, sweetheart?
Hey, darling.
Welcome back to the UK. Thank you. Really good to be back.
We've missed you. Yeah, it's good to be back home.
INAUDIBLE
Got his photo. I've kissed him, I've smelt him, I've hugged him.
What more can a 39-year-old want?
He pulled me towards him.
Yeah, he pulled me towards him, so it's made me day.
Followed them at the hotel... Every concert.
We go anywhere, any concert
They've got so much potential. They're going to be around forever.
It's mega-wicked and crucial. Know what I'm saying?
When you're 35 and 45, will you still remember Bros?
ALL: Yes!
What do you think about this group, Bros?
Sorry. We're not with it. We're not with it.
You'd been lined up to do the Michael Jackson tour in Europe,
but you turned that down.
We didn't really turn it down. We just couldn't do it because
I think we can hold our own now in Europe.
I remember playing Madison Square Garden when I was 21.
You know, I was a baby. Wembley Stadium.
70,000 people, at 20.
Without doubt, there's nothing that compares to that event
in the band's history, for me.
Start jumping. Come on, everyone!
SCREAMING
Keep dancing!
♫ Whoa
♫ Oh, yeah
♫ Hey... ♫
I didn't feel like a superstar playing.
But I knew something had changed.
Once you've played a stadium,
you know, you're a stadium band, something changes.
I think we 15 consecutive Wembleys.
There are artists that do one or two nights, but we did 15 there.
And you're there, I think...
We were basically there for the entire month.
Just the sheer amount of bodies that come and see these shows.
That was definitely the moment when you had to pinch yourself
and it didn't seem real.
♫ Yeah! ♫
Let's see those hands. Come on!
I just looked at him and thought, "I hope we can live forever."
SCREAMING
Saturday Night Live.
We're waiting for Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Junior, Liza Minnelli.
Right now... Please welcome... BOTH: Bros!
SCREAMING
We came back from promotion.
And now we're stopping a big machine to go back.
So you work out pretty quick something terrible has happened.
And we were put in a big limousine.
And this car was full up of people that weren't normally in it.
And we were going towards south-east London.
I was like, "Hold on a minute. Hold on, why are we here?"
And I literally turned to Mark and I just fucking held his jacket.
I said, "Tell me it's not Mum. Tell me it's not Mum."
He didn't say anything.
And I shouted, "Fucking tell me it's not Mum."
He went, "It's not Mum. It's not your mum."
And nobody said a word after that.
Got back, there were 400, 500 fans outside our house.
And we walked in.
It was simple delivery. "Carolyn has been killed in a car accident."
My sister, she was a wonderful girl, incredibly smart.
I would have loved to see her become a woman.
I think she would have
done something quite remarkable with her life.
But...it didn't happen.
First, a chart-topping sensation. We've had an enormous racket outside
since about nine o'clock this morning from the fans.
I've heard nothing like it since the halcyon days of Wham!
Chart-topping sensation,
with an exclusive preview, the next single, I Owe You Nothing,
from Matt, Luke and Craig, Bros!
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
AUDIO FADES
I don't know who expects a young man to go on TV after that...
They wanted to present to us
platinum records for our album sales.
..and have composure and try and crack a smile.
But that's what they expected.
We were these people that you saw on Top Of The Pops or in newspapers.
Matt and Luke were not real.
INDISTINCT CHATTER
Pull up now. Huh? Now I've got this...
Yeah.
Are you good? Nice to see you. Nice fit?
How you doing? Nice to see you. Everything good?
Tim. Hello, Tim. How are you?
I'm very well, mate. Nice to see you. Pleasure to meet you.
Hello, sir. John. Your new bass player. Nice to meet you, sir.
Good to see you, my friend. Pleasure to see you.
Looking forward. Me too. Let's have a giggle.
Just be patient with me, lads, while I learn to play drums again!
THEY LAUGH
When there's an expectation creatively of me,
I want to blow people away.
I don't want to get through it. I want to excel.
I'm not going to take a legacy.
I'd rather it never had happened,
than to have done it in a half-arsed way.
But at the moment it's that weird inhibition state.
It definitely makes me take a deep breath or two.
But I already signed up for this.
The reality of getting back together is two completely different lives,
two different individuals now.
This is to see if we can
put blood back into the veins of a very big pop band.
I want to make sure that he has all the room he needs.
But, at the same time, I don't want to lose my identity.
So I don't want to overcompensate
and become so subservient that I lose my voice.
You know, I'm hoping that the rehearsals
will be the moment where we just bond.
I want to be in that room now.
Hello. Heard a lot about you, mate.
"Hey, bro" to you. That's fun, though, right? You sound amazing.
It feels cool, right? Give me a hug.
Did you see my lovely friend? Isn't she sweet. Yeah, of course.
Why don't we get in it?
One, two, three...
Everything good? Yeah, good. You OK? Do you have any tape?
I just ripped open a new part of my skin.
It gets to, like, cover it, let it heal, cut off the dead skin. Next!
It's going to be a difficult thing to get a music stand...
That's the difference between...
BASS DRUM POUNDS Let's get on with it!
Yes, yes, yes!
Yes, yes! Yes.
Money, money. That sounds money, man.
Was it OK?
I think it sounds sweet.
You guys work out that bit. One, two, three...
♫ Cos I'm... ♫
HE IMITATES PERCUSSION
Exactly!
HE IMITATES PERCUSSION
I can't go...
That's going to be impossible.
And, Matt, remember that little thing
at the back of your neck, it really helps. Yeah, yeah.
No, I'm just saying I'm still adjusting. What the fuck, guys?
No, no, no. We're just fucking around, Luke. What?
We're just fucking around.
I know, but you two are like Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
No, we're not, mate. He's not going to mess something up.
All right. I'm just saying...
I need to know what music you are doing once it does come in. Luke...
You've got a mic so I can hear you.
I can't hear you unless talk into the mic.
I can't hear you. It doesn't matter.
Everyone has to be on the same page.
Otherwise you don't get to turn the page.
Because somebody gets left behind otherwise.
And then somebody has lost the page of the story,
which may be key to the ending
or the whole entirety of the whole journey.
So we've had a further discussions to that this weekend
which I was going to mention at this point.
So, up until this point,
Chocolate Box has been out and is still out at this point.
I have to say, I don't like Chocolate Box.
I've never... I don't like the song.
I get that, and actually I agree with that.
A lot of fans do love it. It was some of the fans' favourite song.
But I do think we're lucky enough - we don't have one hit.
We have a lot of hits. I don't think we'll miss it.
If Lukey feels that way, I agree with him... Mm-hmm.
It's our band, it's out of the set.
Out of the set?
Out of the set.
Going down to the definites... Shocked, without doubt.
Ten Out Of Ten. Absolutely. Liar. Yeah.
I Owe You Nothing. Yeah. I Quit. Yeah.
Love To Hate You.
That's questionable to me.
The first album I think we've got to pretty much cover
because it's what put it all on the map.
20 songs is... Quite a lot. It's a massive set.
To have some interaction as well. People have been waiting 30 years.
Without any banter, that's 100 minutes. Without any banter.
I'm just saying, at regular shows...
I know what a regular show is, Shirl. I've done 2,000 shows.
I know what shows are.
I'm trying to tell you, 20 songs is a lot of material.
If it's a 90-minute show on paper,
it will end up being a two-hour show. OK.
So, without imagination, that could look quite bland and quite flat.
So that can now turn into...
This is one of the things it can turn into.
We don't want to use, like, 50 colours because it looks very dated.
So we're using one or two colours at a time.
So this is another thing you can turn the stage into.
This one actually gives the illusion of pyros falling down.
They are pyros.
They really are. They are pyros.
OK, so... All right.
The illusion of real pyros.
That's fucking funny, dude. Yeah, it is.
We're recreating that stuff in Australia.
So we're not shipping it over.
It's a lot more expensive to do shows there.
The only difference will be some of those panels come out.
Are you getting grumpy bunny? Yeah. Why, though?
Cos I am. You just fucked me off, that's all.
What's fucked you off? Nothing.
Don't fuck me off. I just had a little moment. It's all right.
But what was it, dude? It doesn't matter. Doesn't matter.
Let's move on.
It's such a no point, let's move onto something else.
And it goes... Only one... HE HUMS
Boom! It will come back in again.
Not the whole thing, just the boom-boom-boom!
Me and Luke are both obsessed with creating drama
and that insane sense of drama at the front end of the show.
This is a real big deal for us.
You don't want to shoot our load with this.
It needs to build up and get the rhythms right,
get the beats right, get the timing right, get the energy right,
to build up that entrance, so that it was worth the wait.
HEARTBEAT PLAYS
Creating a show is like a rosebud that opens up.
We want to create a show that's so fucking insane, that people go,
"Bros should be on-stage. Bros should be back on-stage."
INTRO PLAYS
It's too early for me. Don't you think? For the choir?
Just fade up the heartbeat - boom-boom, boom-boom -
and then fade up them, then fade up their drone.
I feel too capable to be asking permission from anyone.
I need to feel extremely, extremely involved or I won't do it.
That was just that little added thing.
I thought it was such a nice thing.
I know it's not right cos it's not tidied up yet.
But do you like it with the second one or not? Yeah, absolutely.
You do?
Yeah.
It doesn't seem like you do.
He has a very strong opinion, as do I.
And I have to shut up sometimes.
And I guess he has to do the same, but it's an art form,
a language, martial arts.
Poor Gary, man. What the fuck? Two twins, one in each ear.
I wouldn't want to be that guy. Fuck!
THEY LAUGH
I think growing up in school, being twins,
we were kind of like always known. We were, like, the Goss Brothers.
It was always the Goss Brothers, the Goss Brothers.
I've not existed on Earth without Matt being there.
I've not had... I had 11 minutes to myself.
I had very big sticky-out ears until I was 15, 16.
I had plastic surgery.
So, you know, the language was always,
"Oh, he's the handsome one, Matt."
So, for me and my own insecurity, as a small man, I was the ugly twin.
My brother's the left side of me and the right side of me.
You know, sometimes he's one or the other.
37 Crawford Road to me was a house of singing.
This address is just full of joy.
This is the soul... this is the soul door.
I had the time of my life at 37 Crawford Road.
The time of my life.
Me and my brother were officially best mates.
So look at this. Goalposts.
And cricket.
We played cricket with a tennis ball.
Job done.
There was no shame that we didn't have much money.
We had one toy that we loved more than anything and that was a dart.
We didn't have a dart board that went along with it.
We had a dart.
We used to throw it up in the air as hard as we could
and we would stand still as we could for as long
before it landed and one time it unfortunately landed in Matt's ribs.
In my rib. Which is a dumb move.
And we ran into this... running like this.
37 Crawford Road. Grandad...
..pulled the dart out, gave it back to me and we carried on playing.
And now you can't even fucking play conkers in England.
Can we start a petition in honour of Bros, please?
Can we start...? You can't do what?
How ridiculous it is that you can't play conkers
and, if you do, you have got to wear goggles.
That is the biggest problem.
Can't play conkers in England.
I can live with it.
Love you.
I used to go running every day as a kid.
I used to run eight miles a day.
Eight, ten miles a day after school.
And everyone thought I was mad about running.
I wasn't mad about running. I was mad about having my own time.
He was a rectangle and I was a rectangle
and we made a square, which therefore is a fortress.
We became each other's fortress many times.
314 Commercial Way, to millions of people,
is a very, very significant address.
That moment, that defining moment from anonymity to celebrity
was in that house.
The longest I've ever waited outside somewhere or waited for them
is about 12, 15 hours.
Yeah, they know the studios that I go to.
They know my relatives,
they know where my brother lives, they know where I live.
After a while, they know where all that is, so...
I don't encourage it. It just happens.
They can sit there for hours.
I mean, what on Earth do they talk about?
Sometimes I have gone down and had a look at them.
They're not talking to each other.
They're just sitting there like dummies.
If they're up there and they're in there,
what's the point of going home?
Like, um... He's here! Oh! Who's come out?
SCREAMING
And then it got to the point...
Do you remember when we went to number one
and Pepsi were sponsoring us at the time
and they sent down a truck of, um... of Pepsi.
The way Mum handled the celebrity that kind of entered our lives,
she graced the fans with nothing but love and affection.
A lot patience. She used to make them cup of teas and sandwiches.
Do you know if Kevin still lives there?
No. Kev's not there now. He's not? I don't think so, no.
I remember walking into the first day recording the album.
I had a proper microphone.
Proper headphones and you could see the lights going on.
I pictured my kit being set up, miked up.
I never forget Nicky Graham who, at the time, was making a record.
He said, "Keep singing, just keep singing."
And I was, "Ooh-ooh, yeah." No. No way you can write that.
I'd waited my whole life, a lifetime at that point,
and he'd already programmed all the drums.
And I had to fight to try and contribute to it.
Literally fight.
My manager once said, "Luke Goss is illiterate.
"He can barely string a sentence together."
What is my contribution?
Am I like, you know, a version of a freak show?
I felt like I was a waste of space. I thought I was useless.
I'd be jealous sometimes of the attention that he would get.
He was perceived as the gifted one. He was the favourite.
I would retreat into a place of solitude
or retreat to a place of recovery.
So if my feelings were hurt in the studio
and I wanted to communicate something with my brother,
there was definitely adults that I had to traverse around
to even get there and sometimes I was like,
"I don't have the energy for this."
If you don't have my corner with these motherfuckers
who are telling us how to play,
how to speak, how to talk, how to think...
He could have quite easily said,
"You don't let that dude sit behind that kit,
"then you don't hear me sing on the mike."
It was interfering with family.
It's a crime, it's a sin.
And even to this day, my brother doesn't always get it.
I've felt like it's been an never-ending apology
for being Matt Goss, you know?
Being the singer in the band, being the front man.
I said it, ladies and gents.
It was just soul-destroying for me.
Obviously, the thing is and it goes...
"once together", dah-dah-dah
"I've only memories to make things better"
My...my sister. STRINGS START PLAYING
Still piano. Not yet. Not yet.
And it goes...
..Boom-bah!
Boom, dah-doom, boom-bah...
So some kind of groove, right? Yeah, Zeppelin, mate.
No, I just want to what hear what you guys are doing.
I'll do something too. I know...
That's not the fill. I'm saying...
Bah-bah-boom... Something like that.
Let's fucking work it out. I don't know what you're doing.
Let me play before you tell me what to do.
One second. One second.
Whenever you want.
Twice as long.
Really... Please, just try it like Phil Collins.
Boom-bah! Boom-boom-boom, bah...
Well, that was the fill I play.
And if you can't get in the groove from that, I don't know.
Can we try a couple more and then we all come in on one?
Yeah. That ring, ring, bah-boom.
It's your thing. Maybe...
Just a suggestion.
I'm not saying what fill to do, just boom-bah. Bah-boom.
I've got a style, dude. I don't know what to say. OK.
I'm not saying change the song.
Now, I want you to like it, too.
But I think it might sound unbelievably powerful.
Try a couple of things that you feel comfortable with.
That's what I'm saying. Try a couple of things.
You do a couple of things and we'll come in, Luke.
Whenever you want. Literally whenever you want. We're on you.
I think it sounds phenomenal. It's a great idea.
Zeppelin is probably my number one influence, so I'm digging it.
The only thing I would say at the front end,
when you're playing, beginning with the keyboard, it's just lovely.
But, Tim, you know when you started creeping in,
I think you should creep in a little earlier.
It was... It just... Really? When he says "sister".
I think...
If I say a fucking thing, I want to try it, that's the end of it.
All right? I don't want to be the debate guy. Let's try it.
I'd like you to try little earlier. Just very gently, thanks.
OK. Well, you know what?
We've been doing a lot of listening and I personally felt
that everyone needs to know, if I have an idea,
I want then I want to at least hear it.
If it's shit, we can let go of it, right?
We're still working out the fucking idea, bro.
I know we've been doing a lot of listening.
I suggest... I thought... ..doing the fucking arrangement.
There's so much energy in the room.
I don't agree with the way you handled that.
You know what? You don't have to fucking swear at anybody.
Otherwise I fucking swear all the fucking time.
Good. Do your thing. You do your fucking thing as well.
I made a suggestion. Yeah.
And I think that's also part of the deal.
Everybody is listening to you. That's what I want to hear.
So let's do it. Thanks. That's not how it works, brother.
That's not how it works. So let's not fucking do it
until we come to a fucking agreement.
You guys arrange it. I'll be in the other room.
No, no, no. We're just trying to work through it.
Tell me when you're ready. I have done a lot of listening.
I suggested... Sorry, sir, I wanted to hear the cello
two fucking bars earlier Now let me calm down.
Let me get over it. I'll get over it.
Give me five minutes. Everybody's listening. Work it out.
That's the first official argument of rehearsals. That's part of it.
Anyway. Shall we take five? Just take a break for a minute.
Luke... The rehearsal's over, Luke. Rehearsal's over.
That's the first time I have ever experienced that.
In 30 years, I've never been spoken to that way.
Get your fucking keyboard and screw your keyboard.
You're keyboard player.
I want to hear the fucking cello cos it sounded beautiful.
Let's just calm down. I don't even know what I'm playing, Luke.
I don't even know what I'm playing yet.
You don't realise how much you're running this.
You don't see it cos you're used to you.
Would you just be prepared to hear another perspective?
I'm not running anything. I was excited to hear...
I've been here for fucking eight days.
You come in and tell me what to do all the time.
I'm not telling you what to do. It's a great arrangement but listen,
if I want to hear something, I don't need my fucking keyboard player...
Luke, Luke. Hold on a minute, Luke.
Don't walk away from me, man. Give me five fucking minutes.
Just don't walk away from me. Let's just sort this.
Can I just say this...? I need to just adjust.
Can I just...? Luke, Luke, Luke.
I'm not doing this. I will fucking walk out.
You bow down to me and fucking say I am that guy.
I will fucking walk out. I don't need to fucking do this.
I don't need to it, Luke. Nor do I, mate. Let's not do it, then.
I just feel like calling it a day today.
I'm not on this Earth for long enough
to put up with this fucking shit any more.
I'm not having a good time.
Sorry to say this but I just don't...
I love my brother, but...we rub each other the wrong fucking way.
I honestly feel like just getting on a fucking plane and going home.
The communication is just not working.
Or the lack of communication is not working.
I feel there's so much water under the bridge, it's just keeping me up.
It's like... This part of your body doesn't work
when you feel emotional, stressed
and I know I'm going to wake up fucking...
..stressed and I feel like...
I'm not happy today. So, anyway, fuck it.
Woo! Hi, Matt! Hello, Matt!
We're about to do This Morning.
To do This Morning and go off to rehearsals.
This Morning.
TV show in the UK, for anyone who's watching this not in the UK.
It's a TV show that Matt's done independently,
I've done independently and we've done it together over the years.
How long's it been running? Matt? I have no idea.
Are you all right, bro? What's up?
I am just... You seem very serious. I'm just reading something. Oh.
Why are you in a bad mood today? I'm not in a bad mood today.
Matt, you're in a bad mood. What's up?
Cos I was fucking... I feel battered from yesterday.
Just shake it off, mate. Good luck on that.
We had an argument, bro. Just shake it off.
It's gone way beyond that, mate.
Please, please.
OK, but let's have some fun.
What, when you decide we have fun, yeah? When you decide?
Are you are carrying it from yesterday? Yeah, I am, mate.
I'm not. I'm not. I love you, man. I'm not joining in.
I'm fucking glad you love me, mate.
I'm not joining in, mate. Good, mate. Nor am I.
I love what we're doing.
We had an argument. There's a lot of pressure on us.
No, you speak to me like a fucking cunt.
You lost a little bit of me, yesterday, with what you said.
What did I say? Tell me. Say it. I don't care. What did I say?
We had an argument, mate.
And it's over. I'm fucking not over it, Luke.
You also said a few hurtful things and everyone in the room knows it.
You also contributed.
I love you enough... I called you last night to say I love you
and you didn't pick up the call and that's your choice.
You sound so incredibly rehearsed.
I understand it's difficult for you to be in a band
but we have to collaborate. I'm going to defend myself.
I'm not scared of you, man. I'm not going to be that guy.
I'm not going to not respond.
I said will you look at me and I'll give you the cues, knowing that
I'd spent four hours... I can't take in an arrangement...
I just wanted to show you. I was listening.
One play, which is roughly four minutes of your life.
After four hours of my life, you couldn't give me four minutes.
If you turn your back to me and you don't need my cues
and you don't need me cos I'm the frontman of the band.
I do need your cues.
I will cue the whole band at the O2 cos that's the way it works.
If I don't end the songs and I stand there like a fucking numpty,
the band will not know when to...
I've done this before too. I'm not a moron.
It's been a minute, Luke. I need... Thank you for reminding me of that.
I am willing to fucking put my head through that fucking wall
right now. That's how I feel. It's how I've been made to feel.
I really am, Luke. I broke, yesterday, Luke. Emotionally.
I am completely not over it.
If you think I am, just because you tell me to be...
I'm spelling it out to you.
I am more nervous than I thought I would be about the O2, all right?
I'm very intimidated about what I'm having to do.
I'm excited... This I understand, I understand. Hang on a minute.
As I stand by what I said.
We're under a great deal of pressure,
I think we react, we had an argument.
There are some shortcomings in regards to creating the music.
Now whether we like it or not, I don't want the fucking job.
We are behind schedule and there's a massive workload.
I know, I understand. A massive workload.
I'm under the same pressure. No, only I know how to get us there...
Mate, there's no less hiding for me than you.
I am so overwhelmed.
I have not have the chance to retain any information here.
I haven't even had the fucking chance to sing yet.
I was embarrassed. I'm learning my instrument. No, no, that's not...
Hang on. No, don't shut me down, I want to speak, listen.
All right, Luke... I'm going to speak.
You're going to speak, you're going to speak, are you?
You're going to speak? Cos I told you the way I feel.
What is this? This is what it is,
it's passive-aggressive. You asked me...
I'm saying... "I'm going to speak!" That's what you do.
Fuck you. Go fuck yourself. Go fuck yourself.
Let me tell you... Go fuck yourself.
He says shit to me that, if it was anyone else,
I think I would get a bat,
take a half-a-mile run, and knock their fucking head off.
It was a thrash-out because he's sharing real estate.
Of HIS profession, HIS business.
Now I come along and I've got as much to say in a day.
Bros is two of us.
I'd like to answer... I...
There's three or four questions I didn't get to answer.
I'd like to contribute at some point, if that's OK.
Do you know what they are?
Sorry. It's not that, I just got shut down three times,
and it's my life also, I don't want to just be an observer here.
It's cool. OK. I just wanted... No, no, I get it.
Do you want to say those?
No, I'll summarise. I want to speak occasionally, that's all.
But there was a couple of subjects that I wanted to be a part of.
And it... Say it now.
And I need to think if it's even worth saying,
I'm going to consider it, give me a second. Um...
The funeral?
No, you'd ask the question, it seemed like, it screamed out,
it was this thing I was thinking about.
What's going on? What's going on?
I'm having a personal thing with Rob, it's between him and I. Luke...
It's nothing to do with you. Luke, Luke. I'm not, did anyone...?
I don't want you thinking I'm saying anything about you.
I'm just talking to... Mate, I don't want you... It's all right.
I don't know what you're talking about. Let me deal with this.
Nothing to do with you, mate.
I don't know what you're talking about.
I'm just saying, don't think it's anything about you... I didn't.
I didn't even know you were in there, I thought you were sleeping.
Fuck!
Fuck me!
I want to cry a little bit right now.
You all right? No, I'm not.
The sibling element took precedent, rather than the music.
I saw very quickly if I didn't stand up,
I would be as equally miserable as the first time
and that would be a farce.
It would make a mockery of why I'm here.
There's got to be some tranquillity, mate, got to be some tranquillity.
Help me. Please. Help me.
Just tell him to... Honestly, please.
I mean, respectfully. Yeah, course. We've got to get to some work here.
And I can't have this conversation.
I don't... My body can't take it any more.
Occasionally I'm going to disagree,
but I'm not disagreeing cos I want to be right,
I'm disagreeing cos I don't like the choice.
I'm hearing it. I just... I don't know yet.
I could see people taking sides.
They'd make assessments of where they think the strength is.
When we play with conviction in there, it sounds better.
My mix only works itself out by 50%.
We were just working our bits out together. I know that.
But when I see Flea, I think, "There's a committed player."
From the Chilies. I'm like, "That guy fucking plays with conviction."
That's what I need.
They have to weather my learning process. And, at the same time,
take my direction when they might not be hearing excellence.
He's all I've got left.
And he's angry. And he's hurting people.
And it's not a good look for him.
I give you my word, it's not a good look for my brother.
I'm worried about him. Mm. Me too.
It's wearing us all a bit thin, do you know what I mean?
It's one of those situations -
if you fall asleep, then you're definitely going to miss the train.
My voice is shot today because I'm absolutely fucking knackered,
to be honest with you. I'm absolutely knackered.
You're making me feel great pain right now, you're hurting me.
You're also humiliating me.
Because you have the luxury of walking in here knowing what you do.
And we need to fix this. If we don't, we're fucked.
Just today, if we can all be conscious of the musicality of it?
We are, we're just learning. I know. I hear you. I'm not saying...
I'm saying, that will happen from running it. That's what Becky said.
It will, it will. The better use of this time is tying this down.
None of us... I know, but like he said, he just wants to go...
I've got to be heard once, guys. I'm hearing you.
I've literally not asked for one thing from you. I'm trying to say...
They only had a chance yesterday to learn the show.
You can't be fair to them. Shirley...
No-one's saying anything bad. I know, but it's...
We're just talking. I don't get anywhere.
Well, let's try. It doesn't matter what I say.
Let's try. No, I tried.
Rome wasn't built in a day. And fuck me, that's true.
But we don't have the time that Rome had.
But I think it's a real privilege to have the chance to do it
for a number of reasons.
But I don't feel worthy of it, I don't really get it yet.
But I... Do you know what I mean by that? No.
Hey, brother, after we do this, I'm going to have to call it, mate.
OK. This cold and flu... Ten hours so far, man. OK, all right.
And then we'll just pick up, keep going. Are we going to do Too Much?
Not today. OK. Not today, not today.
It seems to be a very British thing
that, as soon as somebody really succeeds,
everybody attempts to kick the ground from under them
and destroy them. Now the press have been trying to kill you stone dead
for about a year and a half now. Yeah.
I think it's the preconceived ideas of people like that
that almost stunt the progression of pop bands.
It's a big game with them, it's like,
they have to do their job, we have to do ours.
You just take it as light-hearted, it's a bit of fun.
They have to sell newspapers. And, the way I look at it now,
is that if we're still classed as selling newspapers,
then great. Great for me.
Is it true about the split?
No, I mean, all that about the split, they just...
They always say... You know what they say about me and Luke.
What it was that in a teen press, I basically said that, yeah,
I will be doing my own thing. Same with both of us.
Same as Luke will be, I will be doing my own thing.
But Bros will always be there
and they misinterpreted it as me going solo.
You have to understand, when we were selling records back then,
you had to sell 400,000 or 500,000 singles back then
to get into the top five.
I mean, a massive amount of records.
I'm not sure of the exact chart position but I know that it wasn't
number one, two or three. I think it was around number nine.
And I remember the day when I would...
I would have dared to imagine having a top ten record.
The catalyst for Luke just saying, "Fuck this,"
is when the press said, "Is this the end of Bros?"
I just didn't want to be a charity case.
So I tried to empower myself as much as I could by making that decision.
But I wasn't even close to done.
It was probably the most painful professional moment of my life
without a doubt.
And I'll never forget the moment when he called up.
And I said, "No, no, no, it's all good. We can get through this."
He said, "No, I'm done.
"This is official, Matty, I'm leaving the band, Bros is done."
I just remembered putting the phone down
and just everything just going weak, just going...
Just sitting there going, "Fucking hell."
My whole stomach just turned.
And it was a tragic moment for me
because there were actually 400 people outside my house
at that time waiting for me to go out and go shopping,
or go wherever I did.
People have to realise that that was my job. My livelihood.
And I got fired.
Effectively.
Cos my brother made the decision that it was done.
I remember the manager of Elton John at the time
was managing my brother and myself and the second I left the band,
they dropped me, they didn't want to manage me.
They kept Matt, of course.
How the fuck do you go to sleep
when you know you've lost everything,
you've lost your job and you've got to wake up?
I've been through it, but we did it in front of everybody.
One of the few things I don't understand
is the hatred that Matt and I went through from the press.
I'll never forget the feeling of, like, going,
"I can't wait till tomorrow, I hope tomorrow's not as bad as today.
"I hope the quotes are a little bit more truthful than it was today."
Every day, we would say that.
I remember falling asleep in the bath
and one of our bodyguards sold a picture.
While I was taking a 15-minute nap in the bath.
You see yourself in the bath in a magazine, it's embarrassing.
Luckily, there were bubbles.
I remember my mother crying her eyes out
when she heard somebody on radio say,
"I hope one of them dies in a plane crash
"so we don't have to listen to their music any more."
People would spit on my car.
The kind of hatred that I had to live through
was reserved for mass murderers.
Humiliation in the press, inaccuracies,
saying we just spunked our money, which we didn't.
We woke up one day and said,
"We're going to spend some of our fortune now,"
because we'd been spent on the big machine called Bros.
Within moments, I mean, I'm talking three days after leaving the band,
my two vehicles on my driveway had been taken off the driveway
by individuals I'd never seen before.
I had a family to raise. I had a wife and a stepdaughter
that I was the breadwinner. I had to ask for the engagement ring back.
Losing the cars was like, fuck it, that's what's got to happen,
I'm a boy, I'm a man, I've got to just strap a pair on
and say, "Fuck it, we've got to keep moving."
But I said to her, "We need the ring, darling.
"We ain't going to make it otherwise."
She took it off her finger without thinking
and she handed it to me and said, "I want a big one anyway."
HE SNIFFS
But that was, er... That was shit. I didn't enjoy that.
I'm not ashamed that I've been through ups and downs.
I'm really not. I've made and lost more money than people can imagine.
I lost my brother as an ally, I lost my brother as a friend.
And I don't know if he even stopped...
No, he didn't stop long enough to consider what it was like
to go from superstar to both broke and...
..deemed as useless.
The moral of it is, just don't sweat the small stuff.
If you go through hard times...
And anyone that judges you if you do go through hard times
should not be in your life.
I felt like, "Shit, I'm going to be one of those statistics, aren't I?"
That's how I felt.
If me and my brother can get back to the energy that we had
when we were eight years old, then we would have fucking succeeded.
Hello! Matt and Luke's mum. Lovely. You're so good.
You're on...like a metronome. Is that microphone?
It's not anything else, that's for sure.
This is my mum. This is my boy.
I love her. I love you! She's the best, what can I say?
My mother was profoundly selfless,
like most mothers, I guess, of course.
About Matt and I.
She would be in this car, you know,
she would be in this car right now, we'd be holding hands.
And it does hit you, it hit me this morning that she's not here.
And it just...
It's...
..devastatingly real.
I've got one photograph of my mother in my house
and it's kind of a close-up shot of her just full of light.
And she was looking at her two sons on stage at Wembley Stadium.
And, er...
..that gives me a very clear understanding
how happy she was when we did that.
The phone rang, they told us,
Mum... Well, Tony told us with Mum in the background,
she was like, "Hello, babies, hello, darlings. You OK?"
"Yeah. What's wrong, what's wrong?"
He said, "We've had a bit of bad news."
"What is it?" And Tony said...
.."Mum's been given three months to live."
And the first thing, the first thing...
The first thing that my mum said,
when she found out the news is, "How am I going to tell my boys?"
That says a lot about my mum.
She got on an aircraft...
..when she was... 60 something pounds.
With the knowledge that she would be gone
in anything from a day to two weeks.
To die with her sons.
No, no, don't... Why are you turning round? The video's running.
Oh, what? Sorry! OK, this is take two.
Carol didn't like that one so we decided to do another one.
Go on, then. Well, this time I want you to know how much I love you.
How much I want you to enjoy your birthday
and your own special New Year.
I love you to pieces. And just thank you for being you.
Happy birthday. Bye! Bye! SHE LAUGHS
I believe that the day you lose your mum, for a man,
is the day you become a man.
Because...
..the phone call that you need to make does not exist any more.
She was my best mate.
She was my confidant, she was my consigliere, she was...
She was the person that I believed that was interested in my life.
I've always wondered why
I haven't seen her in my dreams since she passed.
And I think maybe this, as weird as it may sound to people,
will give her some peace.
I feel like the one thing we could have given to her earlier
was the reunion where she could have seen her boys.
Where she could have seen her boys connect musically and emotionally.
It will be a tiny bit dimmer for her not being there.
That's the truth.
I'm just going into it.
Oh, my God, what are you going to sing?
THEY WORK OUT A TUNE TOGETHER
Just give me the note.
ACOUSTIC GUITAR PLAYS
♫ I've dried your tears, I've brushed your hair
♫ I've held your hand when you were scared
♫ Remember the time you cried because of thunder
♫ And we've taken walks in St James Park
♫ The Southbank was our little spot
♫ And Big Ben watched us, the great defender
♫ Do we drive off the road
♫ As I still... ♫ HIS VOICE BREAKS UP
It's all good.
I'm feeling it too. It's a tough one for us. Tough lyrics, man.
I feel you, man, I'm feeling the exact same thing. Are you?
OK, let's try again. Ready, guys? OK, from the top, all right, boys?
One, two, three, four.
GUITAR PLAYS
♫ I've dried your tears, I've brushed your hair
♫ I've held your hand when you were scared
♫ Remember the time you cried because of thunder... ♫
No, give me a second, sorry. This song!
I know, you know what it is, it's one of those things,
just so you know. Writing a song sometimes is such a catharsis.
When you've got people with us
who've all gone through things similar. What happens is,
you've got to fight through the pain.
If this happens on the night, I'm going to do this very thing.
I'm going to say, "Guys, we'll keep doing it until the emotion
"is just long enough so we can sing it without stopping."
Let's try again, guys. Three, four.
♫ I've dried your tears, I've brushed your hair
♫ I've held your hand when you were scared
♫ Remember the time you cried because of thunder... ♫
I had, like, an epiphany. I was like, "Hold on a minute.
"This is meant to be difficult, of course it's going to be difficult.
"We've not got on stage for 27 years for a reason.
"We're complete individuals."
♫ And you held my face when I needed strength... ♫
I just had such a small, small family, very few people I know.
I'm probably stronger than I thought I was.
And our friendship and our love for each other
is stronger than I thought it was.
♫ We had each other in the... ♫
HE CHOKES UP Sorry, man.
I'll do the second verse.
♫ You hold the keys... ♫
We are brothers, we will find a way of cutting through all the crap.
♫ Forgiveness, forgiveness... ♫
I don't think the past helps us in any way.
I think the future is bright. I think the future is our friend.
And the precious present is our friend.
The right now is our friend.
And I would urge my brother to trust me on at least that.
♫ Forgiveness
♫ Forgiveness
♫ Forgiveness. ♫
APPLAUSE
That was only the second time. It was beautiful.
Thank you. Thanks a lot.
That line's in there for you -
"On bended knee you said yes, that was for real."
I think hindsight is the philosophy of fools.
It's one of my expressions that I've used.
I love words but I think it's valid.
Because you learn nothing in some ways because...
HE SIGHS
..sometimes you have to do the same again.
"Oh, I'm not going to do that again." That's bad advice.
Cos sometimes you have to do the same again.
Hello, there. It's, er... about 1.30 in the morning.
Someone said, many people said, "How does it feel?"
And the... Two words, privileged, I feel privileged.
And...
..profoundly grateful for the experience.
I've now got something that, a little ritual that I do every night,
I have a bandanna. WHISPERS: A bandanna.
HE LAUGHS GOOFILY AND SNORTS
The same as anything, like, on the first day of making a movie
I'd be nervous, but nothing like this.
I put my bandanna on and as I tie a knot in the back,
I make a really positive affirmation about my life.
In the morning, I just pull it down like this
and I naturally have like a bandanna on like this, see?
You fuck up, there's no hiding it, it's already there.
You got to be original. I don't really like crunchy new ones.
I don't like crunchy new ones, all right?
I'm just saying I don't like crunchy new ones.
I'm going to go chill and meditate,
keep my mind nice and calm and centred.
Done a little bit of manscaping tonight
which is always a good thing, it took about seven hours.
It's been a while, ladies and gents, it's been a while.
I am nervous, actually,
I should probably talk about that, I am nervous.
I thought for a while I would do an elephant, a bit of topiary.
You know what I mean? Come on, Bros. "Hello, everybody!"
And then, it would be like, my cash-in prize, it would be, like,
you'd see the outline of a giraffe or...
..or a rose, you know what I mean?
I ended up opting for the proper manscape
because I think it was appropriate, really.
Huh! Scary, man.
See you later.
See you tomorrow.
There he is. Hold on, let me stop here. Let me have a little moment.
Scuse me, sir? Scuse me, sir?
Have you got a pass? I don't have a pass but do me a favour?
Be lucky. MAN LAUGHS
Driving into a fucking venue
is about as rock and roll as it fucking gets!
So, ladies and gents, the games begin.
Here we go.
The O2, booyah!
MUSIC: Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo by Rick Derringer
Oh, for goodness' sake! Oh!
Our team did us proud, didn't they? Yeah, they did.
They've worked so hard for us.
Who'd have thought, man? We're back here. Yeah.
We did it, bro. Fuck, yeah.
We're going to do a little mini sound check, they needed us,
but I have to tell you, man. It sounds huge. Yeah.
This is us coming back to life, and what a way to come back to life.
I just have to say, I would love to do a world tour. Me too, man.
You look good, mate, look at him! Sexy bastard.
Look at you, all strong and fucking cut up.
And torn up and shredded.
I have to honest with you, the only thing I didn't expect,
tell me if you feel different.
I'm knackered, dude.
I'm not. I am. I am effing knackered.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not down and knackered, I'm just, like...
Remember the first album, that kit in Malibu...
I'm going to stay here until you get uncomfortable with it.
It feels good, actually.
He'll get bored of it. That's it, cool.
We go this way, man. We can go around the back, which is cool.
I'll introduce you to Tom, Matt, who's the stage manager,
He'll kind of just show you... what we've got up there.
Hey, guys.
You're just seeing a man genuinely in awe of the machine.
We've not done this for a quarter of a century.
And my nerves are at full steam right now.
There's no survival here, this is a conquering moment.
It's unbelievable.
In so many ways, the industry has not got behind us over the years.
But the fans always allow us to do what we need to do.
And it's beautiful being at a point in our career musically
where we can say to the institution... "Go fuck yourself.
"We're going to play music how we want to play it cos, guess what,
"we've got enough fans, whether it be one room or two rooms a year,
"we can play and they want to listen."
And there's a beautiful community between, and connection between...
..me and the fans, it's just unbelievable.
Those blue seats represent individuals, individuals,
hundreds, or thousands, actually,
thousands and thousands of individuals
that have supported my band, my brother's band.
It feels so much better knowing I'm coming on stage with my brother.
It's familiar, actually.
But I thought it was left
in the realms of the cobwebs in the cupboards
and the mist, and the mist memories, if I'm honest with you.
So to be here again is an extremely emotional feeling.
Pretty rad, isn't it? It's where we should be, mate.
Yeah.
We worked it out. We have.
We're powerful together, bro.
Yes, brother!
GENERAL CHATTER
You look good. So, let me just, let me just...
Can I have a hug? Let's just have a moment of peace, just me and you.
I need it as well. OK?
You're the love of my life. I love you too, mate.
No, you're the love of my life. Love of my life too, I love you.
We've got to deal with this now. Can I just ask you one thing? Of course.
If you're going to change stuff, just be very, very clear...
I'm very, very conscious of you, brother.
Be extremely fucking clear.
I'm very conscious of you. No, no, if you want to change it on the move
like you've been doing, that's fine but be clear with me.
I will, I will. Let's not get bent out of shape,
not everything is going to go perfect, it never does.
Right. Let's not get bent out of shape, any mistake,
they don't know about it, we might know about it
but the art is that they don't know about it.
If I put my hand on my heart, when I first started this,
I didn't think for a second it was going to be easy.
I think I've gained from this process.
I've gained Matt more than I've ever had him in my life,
I've gained his friendship and his respect more than ever.
He recognises me more.
I think he might even know just how much I love him.
You know, we are not the same people. And that's OK as well.
CHEERING
The egos had left the room, the insecurities had left the room.
Any doubt of each other had left the room.
The understanding that the only real way
we were going to get through this is to do what we do.
You have my back and I'll have yours.
WOGAN: What are you going to do when that screaming stops?
CHEERING
SONG KICKS IN: When Will I Be Famous?
I want to remember this one, guys, come on.
♫ Yes, you're suitably at one with your body and the sun
♫ Yes, you are
♫ You read Karl Marx and you've taught yourself to dance, you're the
♫ Best by far
♫ You keep asking the question
♫ One you're not supposed to mention
♫ When will I, will I be famous?
♫ I can't answer, I can't answer that
♫ When will I see my picture in the paper?
♫ I can't answer I can't answer that
♫ I can't tell you when
♫ You'll see your name up in lights
♫ When will I, will I be famous?
♫ You won't suffer in silence
♫ You're a talent, you know that I've noticed
♫ You'd like to be a legend
♫ A big star overnight
♫ I can't answer your question
♫ It's driving me insane... ♫
Raise your hands!
♫ And your impossible impatience
♫ Tearing at my brain!
CROWD: ♫ When will I, will I be famous?
♫ I can't answer, I can't answer that
♫ When will I see my picture in the paper?
♫ I can't answer, I can't answer that
♫ When will I... See my picture in the paper?
♫ I can't answer I can't answer that
♫ When will I, will I be famous? ♫
CHEERING
Thank you, O2!
I love you guys so much, up there as well.
I love you guys.
Lukey, I love you, brother.
Luke Goss. I love him, man.
That's it, ladies and gents. Until the next time.
We love you, Bros loves you so much. Thank you for sticking with us.
Thank you, ladies and gents!
Come on, raise those hands!
CHEERING
Thank you. Thank you so much, O2.
The one and only Luke Goss on drums, ladies and gentlemen.
I love you guys.
Whoohoo! Whoohoo!
CHEERING
CHEERING
Goodnight, ladies and gents, I love you so much.
If there was ever 15 one-way streets...
..and one solitary two-way street
where me and my brother got to meet in the middle,
you helped us, you helped us find that one street.
Really.
We've met in the middle here. Two worlds have definitely collided.
And...
..when two worlds collide, two things happen.
Destruction,
or the genesis of new beginnings.
And you...
..have created water on a new planet, mate.
And from that, life will grow.
♫ When we were young, we were the ones
♫ The king and queens Oh, yeah, we ruled the world
♫ We smoked cigarettes Man, no regrets
♫ Wish I could relive every single word
♫ We've take different paths and travelled different roads
♫ I know we'll always end up on the same one when we're old
♫ And when you're in the trenches
♫ And you're under fire, I will cover you. ♫
