EPISODE 4
[alarm beeping]
[alarm stops]
How'd I get here?
I'll trust you, Yubin.
[in Korean] You can trust me.
[in English] I can trust him, right?
[Yubin] Karin! Are you awake?
-Uh… [sighs] -[Yubin] Breakfast is ready.
[sighs]
[sighs]
[in Korean] All done.
[in English] Karin.
Why did I hide?
Karin?
[stammers, chuckles]
[puffing]
-It's early. What are you doing? -Huh?
Um… Nothing. Airing out… [sighing]
[chuckles]
Your breakfast.
Come and eat.
Um… [sighs]
[in Korean] Yesterday.
[in English] Hmm? What about it?
Uh…
Oh, did something happen?
[in Korean] You…
snored like crazy.
It was so loud.
[in English] I do not snore, okay?
[♪ playful music playing]
I mean…
Maybe a little bit. Not always. It's just when I'm really tired.
[in Korean] All right. [in English] Hurry up and eat.
Thanks for the meal.
Hmm?
What is this?
I've never had this before.
-You like it? Good. -Mm-hmm.
What you're eating is a Korean-style toast.
Mmm…
-It's great! -[in Korean] Help yourself.
There's another one over there.
[in English] Hmm? What about you?
[in Korean] I have to go somewhere real quick.
[Karin, in English] Hmm?
Where to? And for how long?
[Yubin chuckles]
[in Korean] Boss,
you care about me that much?
[inhales sharply]
[in English] No, um…
I have to keep track of your hours as your employer and all.
[chuckles, speaks Korean] They're setting up our booth today.
I should go take a look.
[sighs]
Right…
[in English] I'll be back.
Mmm. Have a good day.
[sighs]
"I'll be back…"
[sighs]
[in Korean] Sheesh… [sighs]
What the heck was that?
How can someone be so cute so early in the morning?
Is she planning on being so cute all day long?
-[phone buzzing] -Man, hope she didn't hear that.
HYEJIN
Hello?
[Hyejin] I got a call from Sia.
Han Sia?
She asked about that land.
How does Sia know about my land?
You know her family is in the resort business.
Sounds like she's interested.
Why don't you meet with her once?
Yeah, sure.
When are you coming back?
[grunts]
The thing is…
[grunts, sighs]
I need a little time…
You could fly back soon.
Want me to book your flight?
No, no need. Just…
I'll come back in a few days.
This is a huge opportunity.
Don't wait around.
I won't. I'm hanging up.
[phone beeps]
[sighs]
[in English] Mari, hi. I got us something that'll fix our hangovers!
RAMYEON
Oh, I'll boil the water then.
-So, um… Mari… Can I… -[Mari] Hmm?
Can I consider today our day one?
Day one of what?
Like, of us becoming official?
Yeah.
Yesterday, did you forget that we…
Forget that we what?
[thunderclap]
Wait, don't you remember what we did?
-[♪ upbeat music playing] -[both singing last note]
[♪ music ends]
[both chuckling, exclaiming]
We're doing great!
Uh-huh. Thanks to us and all our hard work,
everyone's gonna line up for Karin's booth!
Thank you for all your training.
[both chuckling]
Oh. [gasps]
[gasps]
[sighs]
Wow.
Kunam… [gasps]
Uh…
Don't you think that…
this is kind of romantic?
-Huh? -It's time.
I'm ready for this.
[Kunam] Mari…
I really…
really like you a lot.
[kettle whistling]
[Kunam] Our romantic hug.
-Th-that was… -Just because we hugged,
it doesn't mean that we're automatically dating.
If it did, I would've been married over a hundred times by now.
[sighs]
We locked eyes romantically. You felt it too. I know you did.
It wasn't just me, right?
[sighs]
I didn't feel anything.
Well, other than the alcohol.
Well, I… I felt it.
[Mari] Ah, come on.
Relax a little.
You take everything way too seriously.
Want some takuan?
I'm taking these.
[door closes]
[Mari sighs]
[sighs]
[in Korean] Bro.
Hey…
[both slurping]
[sighs]
Soup sure goes down easy
even on a heavy heart.
Being Korean is about consuming food.
[sighs]
[sighs]
Were you hiding these from me?
[grunts] These are Mari's favorites, so… [chuckles]
Selfish guy.
Love comes before friendship.
Should we even be thinking about love in our situation?
I don't know about you, but I'm going to give it my best.
[scoffs] I can't just not go back.
I'll never give up.
Anyway, I have stuff to take care of.
[Kunam] You're right.
I have to sort things out
and think about how to show her all my charms.
Good luck.
[sighs]
[Karin chuckles]
[in English] There it is.
[chuckles]
[chuckles]
Hey, Yubin. Come here.
Come look at this! [chuckles]
The sugar levels have finally risen.
-Look at that. -[in Korean] Let's see.
[chuckles]
[in English] Well?
-[in Korean] Are you that happy? -So very happy!
-[chuckles] "So very happy"? -So very happy!
[both chuckle]
-"So very happy"? -Uh-huh.
[in English] Also, that strawberry I've been working on, it bloomed.
-Mmm. -Come look.
Come on! Let's go!
-[chuckles] -[Karin] Hurry up!
-See? Ta-da! -Ah.
Wow.
[chuckles] Aren't they pretty?
Mm-hmm.
-Very pretty. -Mm-hmm.
-They're cute. -Mm-hmm. I agree.
[in Korean] Do these flowers… Ah.
Do these flowers have a meaning too?
[in English] Mm-hmm. Of course.
[chuckles] All flowers have meaning.
[In Korean] What is it?
[in English] Love and respect.
LOVE AND RESPECT
[Yubin] Oh.
-Love and respect. -Respect.
Mm-hmm.
[chuckles] What is it in Korean?
[in Korean] Love and respect.
Love and respect.
-Yeah. Love and respect. -Respect.
[chuckles]
Love and respect.
Love and respect.
-Yes. -Mmm.
Love and respect.
[sighs]

This is just wonderful!
I'm glad.
[chuckles]
[fans squealing, chuckling]

Yubin, thank you for designing this booth. It's so charming.
-Oh, yes, thank you. Thank you, sir. -[villagers] Thank you.

It's delicious.
Hi there.
It's delicious, right?
-Mmm, mmm. -[in Korean] Are you Korean?
[Kunam] Oh. Why do you ask?
I heard you speaking Korean.
Your Korean is really good.
[visitor chuckles] I studied it.
-Your pronunciation's on point. -[chuckling]
[Kunam] If you don't mind, please vote for us for Booth of the Day.
[visitor] Okay, we will.
[in English] We appreciate that.
-[in Korean] Thank you. -Thank you so much.

-Are you sure? -[Kunam] Yeah, we've got it from here.
[in English] There's some time before the judging starts.
You two should take a look around.
[sighs] Great idea.
[in Korean] Let's go, let's go.
-[in English] Let's go. -[Karin yelps]
All right. I'll leave it to you then. We'll be back in a minute.

Chief! How are you?
-I haven't seen you in forever. -Oh, Karin!
-How are things? -It's so good to see you.
-Hi! You remember me? -Oh! Oh! Karin, hi!
-Everything well, Ms. Koga? -Mmm, great.
-The tomatoes are so vibrant. -[Koga] Mmm.
[chief] Oh, Karin. Would you like to try a sample for yourself?

[visitor 1] Anyway, uh, okay…
-[visitor 3, in Korean] Three, two, one. -[camera shutter clicks]
-[in English] It looks good. -[sighs]
[visitor 4] Cute. Can I see?
[visitor 5 giggles] You have to take another one.
[sighs]
[Kunam] Sure.
IRO ISLAND - CHARO ISLAND AOBA VILLAGE
-[child] I see her! -[sighs]
-[children exclaiming] -[child] She's right here.
-[Karin gasps, chuckles] -We got you a present!
[children exclaiming continues]
What? Thank you!
What? What's all this? [chuckles]
You're all so nice.
Is your strawberry booth here?
It sure is.
-This way or that way? -[chuckles]
It's over there.
-[children exclaiming] -[Karin] Oh!
-[chuckles] -[teacher 1] Don't rush.
-Thank you. -[teacher 1] Stay together.
Take your time.
[Karin chuckles]
It's been a while.
[gasps]
Yeah, it really has. It's nice to see you again.
What are you doing here?
[teacher 2] He asked us to come.
[chuckles]
[chuckles] Yubin…
-You got it. Here, you can do it. Here. -Thank you.
-You got this. You can do it. -[child] Wait!
-[teacher 2] We'll go visit your booth. -Great, enjoy it.
[exclaims, chuckles]
-Here's a present for you. -Mmm.
-Are you giving me a gift? -[grunts]
-[in Korean] Thank you. [grunts, chuckles] -Let's go.
[in English] Excuse me. Sorry. Coming through. Please let me through.
-[teacher 1] Did you find one? [chuckles] -[children clamoring]
Excuse me.
Everybody.
Excuse me. Sorry.
-I brought strawberries for all of you. -[Yubin] Thank you. Behind you.
-[child 1] These are so yummy. -[child 2] Can we eat it? Really?
Of course you can. Here.
-There's enough for everyone, all right? -Can we really have one?
-[Karin] Did anybody not get a strawberry? -[in Korean] My goodness.
-[in English] Thank you. -Wait, can I get a big one?
-[groaning] -[Karin chuckles]
[children clamoring]
Yummy?
-[child 6] A weird green thing's on mine. -[Karin] What?
Did everyone get at least one?
-Yes. Take that one, hurry. -Where do I put it?
I'm putting mine here.
Charo Island!
Kabocha incoming!
Almost there!
I'm here!
-Want one? -This looks great.
-[in Korean] Here, here, here. -[chief, in English] Here, I got it.
-[chief] Wow, kabocha pumpkin. -[Yubin straining]
-Yubin! Yubin! -Yeah. What's up?
Sweet potatoes.
-[in Korean] Sweet potatoes. -Sweet potatoes. [in English] Okay.
[moderator] The Green Nova Corporation FESTA judges…
-…will now begin their round… -Everyone, please vote for us!
-…visiting and rating each booth… -Check us out.
-…participating in the competition. -Showtime, everybody.
[moderator] We ask that each booth has a representative present
to greet and attend to the judges.
KABOCHA PUMPKIN KARIN'S STRAWBERRIES
[Karin] Mm-hmm.
-[Yubin, in Korean] All done. -[in English] Good.
-Okay. Yes. -Okay.
This year's theme is "Oh, so juicy." Say it with me. Ready?
-"Oh, so juicy." That was great. -[judges] "Oh, so juicy."
[Reiji] I'm sweeping the competition again.
Ain't it incredible?
Iro Island's tangerines are the most delicious in all of Asia. Here…
Want one?
-[Reiji] Absolutely. Oh, so juicy! -[Yubin exclaims]
[Reiji] Look at the rind. See? It peels right off.
[Yubin] Mmm.
[chuckles]
-Juicy? -Mm-hmm.
Mmm. Really good.
[in Korean] There's no way we'd lose.
[in English] Don't worry.
-Mm-hmm. [chuckles] -Everything will work out.
[in Korean] Take deep breaths. Come on.
-[breathes deeply] -[breathes deeply, chuckles]
[breathing deeply]
[grunts]
-[in English] You got this. -[Karin] Mm-hmm.
-Oh. Oh, here they come. -Ah, ah!
-It's great to meet you. Hello. -[judge 1] Oh, the pleasure is mine.
Thank you for stopping by.
Welcome to our booth.
Happy to have you.
-What a pretty color. -[Karin] Thank you.
-Mind if I take one? -Yes, go right ahead.
[judge 2] They look so fresh and vibrant. Mmm.
I selected the variety most compatible with the air and soil
of Charo island, and no green houses were involved.
-Grown in the elements of nature? -Whoa.
Didn't that make it more difficult?
It sure did. It was a lot harder than I thought. [chuckles]
-[chuckles] -I admire your honesty.
[Karin chuckles]
Why are you determined to grow these outdoors?
Well, it's because my grandfather inspired me.
When I was young, he always said
in nature, strawberries ripen with each season,
and the seasons will determine their taste.
Honestly, learning the rhythms of each season
is a bit difficult to determine accurately.
It's worth it though.
When strawberries are given the freedom to grow,
the resulting taste is quite unique.
My goal in all this is to master that rhythm for myself.
-It's so good. -[chuckles]
-Thank you, sir. -[Yubin] Delicious.
They're very delicious, yeah.
-[Karin chuckles] -The best ones.
-[all chuckle] -"Karin's Strawberries."
I hope you consider us.
[person] It's been quite a while, Karin.
-[gasps] Oh, wow, it has. [chuckles] -[person gasps]
Look at you. Boy, how you've grown. [chuckles]
-[Karin chuckles] -Not only did you grow up well,
you're a participant today.
It's so nice to see you.
I heard through the grapevine that you joined the Green Nova Corporation,
but I never imagined I'd run into you here.
Thanks to that, we're able to meet again.
-[chuckles] Ah. -[chuckles]
Oh, please.
[person grunts]
Ah… [chuckles]
If you have documents related to these strawberries,
will you please email then to me when you can?
[Karin] Of course.
I have an information pack all written up,
so I'll send it to you after I wrap up today.
-Thank you. -Sure.
Well, if anything comes up, reach out.
Thank you very much.
-It's been a pleasure. [chuckles] -[Karin] I agree.
[grunts, chuckles]
-[Karin sighs] -[Yubin grunts]
-Did I do okay? -Yes. You did great.
-It was perfect. -[chuckles]
-[sighs] Oh, I was nervous. -You're amazing. Yeah.
-So, uh, that… -Mmm.
-…last guy. Who was that? A vendor? -Hmm? Mmm.
Uh…
He's just…
-this man that… -[Yubin] Mm-hmm?
…used to visit when I was little.
-Uh-huh. -He would drop by all the time,
-and he was always really kind to us. -Ah.
The strawberries are marvelous.
Is that man competing as well?
Oh, he's probably a friend or booth staff that she hired.
Let's see if he's registered on the pre-event application file…
I'm terribly sorry, sir, but I'm afraid
I don't see him listed as a participating farmer anywhere.
[grunts] This isn't acceptable in the slightest.
I'm to be informed of all goings-on at Green Nova events,
-and I wasn't. -I…
My apologies.
I will confirm who he is and report back immediately.
-The similarity is uncanny. -[Karin] Please try a sample.
-Here you go. Thank you. -Thanks for stopping by. Oh.
Of course, we have plenty left.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is now time
to announce the Green Nova Corporation sixth annual FESTA event winners.
[cheering]
[emcee] The Green Nova Corporation FESTA's very own handpicked judging panel
evaluated all of the products…
[♪ dramatic music playing]
…as well as the booth operations.
Booth of the Day was voted on by Festa attendees.
The region with the highest total number of points will be crowned the winner.
In addition, Green Nova Corporation will be providing all the support necessary
to distribute the winning region's products nationwide!
Which region will come out on top this year
and take home the award of a lifetime?
[crowd cheering]
First up, product evaluation.
It was a close call, but the winner of this category is…
Iro Island!
-Yeah! [cheering] -[cheering]
[fans chanting] Reiji, Reiji!
-[sighs] -[emcee] Things are heating up.
Reiji, Reiji!
-Yeah! -The next category is booth operation.
Various regional groups have created entertaining booth designs and operations,
charming the guests.
And the booth operations category winner is…
I got this. Yeah.
[♪ competitive music plays]
Charo Island!
[crowd applauding, cheering]
[♪ triumphant music playing]
[emcee] Now this, ladies and gentlemen, is the moment you've all been waiting for.
The highest combined score,
including the points from the category that carries the most weight,
Booth of the Day,
will be crowned Festa winner.
-Everyone… -[sighs]
…are you all ready?
The Sixth…
Green Nova Corporation FESTA winner is…
[drum roll]
[drum roll stops]
[emcee] Charo Island!
[crowd cheering]
[♪ cheerful pop music playing]
-[Mari] Karin! -Karin!
[Mari] Karin! [laughing]
[exclaims, in Korean] We won! We won this thing!
[emcee, in English] The award will be presented
by a Green Nova Corporation Festa representative.
Charo Island's booth representative, please step forward.
[chuckling, cheering]
-Congratulations. -Thank you so much.
[crowd cheers]
[emcee] We will now hear a few words from Charo Island's booth representative,
Shirahama Karin.
Take it away.
I'm Shirahama Karin, and I'm representing Charo Island.
I feel incredibly honored to receive this award.
Our strawberries, kabocha, and sweet potatoes
are grown with love and effort on Charo Island's soil.
And I am so thrilled to be acknowledged.
Today's victory means so much,
as this Festa has given us an opportunity
for people all over Japan to enjoy our produce.
This has always been a dream of mine.
Charo Island's residents, myself included,
will do our very best.
We'll create products that will be cherished and enjoyed by all.
Thank you again for this great honor.
[crowd cheers]
[Mari] Yay, Karin!
-[emcee] Thank you, Ms. Shirahama. -[Karin] Thank you.
DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG IT'S BEEN? CALL ME.
All right, everyone. This now concludes the Sixth Green Nova Corporation Festa.
Thank you all for participating and coming out.
-[sighs] -Please get home safely.
-[villager chuckles] -Thanks so much, everyone.
[all chattering, chuckling]
Congratulations!
-[chief] Great work today, everyone. -[Karin] Nice teamwork!
Hey, check out the trophy we won.
Ah, so wonderful!
-Yay! -[chief] It's gonna bring us good luck.
[villager] Yeah! [chuckling]
[chief] It's only up from here. Good things are coming.
[♪ pensive music playing]
[no audible dialogue]
We're gonna win! [cheers]
-Yubin. -[Yubin] Yeah.
You worked hard today too.
Ah.
Mmm. It was fun.
Mm-hmm, it really was.
[in Korean] Hey, so apparently,
there's going to be fireworks nearby.
[stammers, in English] The big fireworks.
-Ah. -Mm-hmm.
-[in Korean] You want to see? -[in English] Uh-huh. Mmm, yeah.
-Let's do it. -Huh, really?
-[in Korean] Let's go. Yeah. -Really?
It's so crowded. [chuckles]
Mmm…
[in English] Uh, it's a lot… [chuckles] …Crowded.
-Hey. This way. -Hmm? Huh?
-Here. Come with me. -Oh. Wait.
-[stammers] Sorry. -Sorry.
-[in Korean] Where are we going? -[in English] Over here. This way. Here.
-Hurry. Excuse us. -[in Korean] Wait. Wait.
[in English] Wow.
-Here, here… -Hmm?
-It's nice, it's quiet. Uh-huh. -Mm-hmm. Right.
[chuckles]
[in Korean] Perfect spot for zoning out.
-Hmm? -Huh?
[in English] "Hit the bruise"? What is that?
-A bruise? -[in Korean] The translation is incorrect.
"Zoning out" is when…
You're just so overwhelmed.
It's like letting your mind go blank
when you don't want to think about anything.
Ah. [chuckles]
[in English] Ah. Mmm, I get it.
It's important to have your own special spot,
someplace all to yourself when you're feeling overwhelmed.
-Do you have somewhere like that? -Mm-hmm.
[in Korean] For me…
-This place. -[in English] Wow.
That's nice.
-[in Korean] Isn't it pretty? -Ooh.
This is where I go when things get really tough.
If you ever come to Seoul, I'll take you there.
[in English] Mmm, sounds good to me.
In all honesty,
I've never been anywhere outside of Japan.
[in Korean] Oh. Seriously?
Mmm.
[in English] There are lots of things I've never gotten to try
because of my condition.
This is my first time doing this,
walking around, exploring the city with someone.
Truthfully, I'll probably never even have a boyfriend.
[in Korean] Why not?
[in English] Anytime I get excited my body collapses.
I collapse when my heart pounds too much.
[sighs] Just holding hands can make me…
[in Korean] What else do you want to do?
[in English] Fall in love.
[in Korean] I like you.
[♪ upbeat music playing]
MERRY BERRY LOVE

[in Korean] Is that you, Yubin?
