The thing you have to understand is that this wasn't

a missing person's case where anyone was accused of a...

a kidnapping or, or a murder, even.

This was a situation where

two kids disappeared and

nobody, as far as I can tell, has ever been

able to explain how or why.

So, you either have to accept the simplest explanation,

which is that

we'll never know what happened to Matthew and Jordan.

Or...

you have to allow for the possibility

that unnatural events can occur.

And do everything in your power

to understand those events.

[Female Reporter] Two families are desperate for answers

after their teenaged sons disappeared without a trace.

The 17-year-old boys, Matthew Nichols

and Jordan Reimer, were last seen

on the evening of October 31st in Port Rupert,

on the northern edge of the island.

Their families are holding out hope they'll be found safe.

[Male Reporter] The teens were out for Halloween activities

on Wednesday evening,

but the two were reported missing when they didn't

return to their homes or show up for school

the next morning.

[Female Reporter] It is currently day three

of the missing teens and

police are widening their search

to include any accessible logging roads

on the North Island.

[Male Reporter] Volunteers from as far away as Tofino,

Port Alberni, Parksville, and the Comox Valley

have joined the search.

We've been out there all day searching, hoping, looking.

You know, hopefully the outcome will be good.

If anyone has seen Matthew or Jordan,

contact somebody, please.

[Male Reporter] Late this morning, a Canadian

coast guard boat joined the efforts in rough seas,

but the search was called off at noon with nobody found.

[Female Reporter] Police are urging anyone with information

about Matthew and Jordan's disappearance

to please come forward.

-[music swells] -[muffled yelling]

Matthew, I want, I want you to know that, um,

there's a lot of people who care for you

and are looking for you.

Come home.

โ™ช

My name is Tara Nichols.

22 years ago, my brother Matthew Nichols

and his friend Jordan Reimer disappeared.

They've never been found.

[dramatic music]

[Man] Take one. Mark.

We're rolling right now?

-Yeah. -Oh, fuck, sorry. Ryan.

No, I'm fine.

Well, you told me that I did have a second.

You said we were gonna take five minutes.

That was literally-- that was 30 seconds, Markian.

There's no closure, you know.

I think that's the hardest part.

That's why I'm making this documentary, because...

I want a better answer to the question of

what happened to them than the one I have right now.

[click]

Yeah, my son didn't come home last night

and he's not at school today.

So, I wanted to report that to police.

Okay, ma'am. And how do you know

your son isn't at school today?

Well, I'm a teacher at Port Rupert Secondary

and, um, I checked the attendance records

and his friend Jordan, who he was with last night,

is also not at the school.

When you asked me to take part in this, I agreed,

because this particular case has stayed with me.

[Tara] Yeah, me too.

Yeah, I'm sure.

It wouldn't have been unusual for hikers or tourists

to go missing in the bush, you know, hiking off trail.

But for a local, even a teen, to go missing...

that... that would've been rare.

You know, in those early days, especially with a teen,

there's always the thought that well,

maybe this is a prank or a cry for attention.

But...

as the weekend went on, it didn't feel like that to me.

I did feel it was more serious.

[ship horn blares]

[Markian] Ryan, am I in this one?

[Tara] You didn't know you're gonna be in this?

This is like the first time. Okay, I'm not, fine--

I'm just worried about looking at the camera all the time

and going like, Jim Halpert, like...

It turns into one big episode--

'Cause that's what I wanna do.

Yeah. Okay.

Uh, so this is the first time on camera, so, um...

I'm Markian and I'm the d-- Do I? I don't need to--

You don't need to say your name.

Yeah. Title Card. Yeah.

-Cool. Let's go. I'm good. -You're good.

-Okay. -All right.

When was the last time you were home?

Uh, okay.

Um, the last time I was home...

was actually for my dad's funeral.

Yeah, so, I mean, the place doesn't really hold a lot

of stellar memories for me, but...

It's okay. You know, it... it is what it is.

I actually, I do feel really ready for this.

I mean, I've... I've done a lot of work,

you know, on my own personal stuff.

Talked to people about it.

Therapy. You know.

Obviously lots of therapy.

But, uh, no, I do, I feel really ready

to explore this part of my life.

โ™ช

Me and my family, my older brother, Matthew,

we grew up on Vancouver Island.

That's, uh, beautiful British Columbia, Canada.

I was five and a half years younger than Matty.

Do I have anything in my teeth? Anything? Come on!

[Tara] I'm pretty sure that I was a surprise, but I mean,

my parents never actually admitted it, so...

[Mom] Oh, aren't you just sweet?

[Tara] My childhood was pretty average.

Dad worked at the mill.

Mom was a teacher at the high school.

[baby babbles]

We grew up, you know, camping,

going to beaches, forests...

I mean, God, Matty and I loved playing in the forest.

I mean, God, Matty and I loved playing in the forest.

This is one of the most

beautiful places on earth to live.

That, that is of course, if you don't mind the rain.

We're at the northern edge of Vancouver Island.

Population, I'd say 20,000.

I love the serenity of the place.

The beauty.

Yeah, I could see... you're in God's country.

We-we're a very tight community.

I mean, everybody here

helps and cares for everybody else.

[slow acoustic music plays]

There she is...

Mom...

[both sigh happily]

Better than Zoom, eh?

Way better.

-Missed you. Yeah. -I missed you too.

-Uh, yeah, so... -Hi.

-Sorry. -Hi, Mrs. Nichols.

Markian. Nice to meet you in person finally.

-Markian. -Oh, oh, thank you.

Great to meet you. Um...

So, yeah, that's Ryan right there.

-[Tara] Camera. -Ryan.

-Yeah. -Come on in.

-Come on in. -Great.

[Mom] Tara, how was the drive?

[Tara] Uh, long.

[Mom] Are you guys hungry? I made cookies.

-[Markian] Oh!

-[Tara]. Oh, famous, Brenda's...

[Markian] Thank you, thank you.

They are really good. You should try one.

Matty's room, we cleared out, but your room is...

pretty much the same.

-[Tara] Really? Okay. -[Mom] Mm-hmm.

-Oh... -Oh, my God.

-Wild. -You were not kidding.

-Look at this. -This is a time warp, Mom.

[Tara] Oh, my God.

-[Tara] What? This bedspread? -[Mom] Mm-hmm.

After Matty, I disconnected.

I smoked a lot of weed, you know, listened to

a shit ton of The Cure and--

Hey, hey... language.

I listened to a lot of The Cure, uh, bands like,

you know, Morrissey and stuff.

Wrote a lot of sad teenage poetry.

I liked your poetry.

What? Mom, no. My poetry was bad.

-No! -No, it was like bad-bad.

Everyone has to start somewhere.

Oh... okay.

Oh!

Actually, I have something to show you.

-Do you remember that? -Oh my.

-Yeah. Yeah. -Really?

I wear it every day.

-Oh, I love that. -Yeah.

This was Matty's, actually, yeah.

Here, Ryan, come... get, like, a close--

-And did he give that to you? -See.

-He did, yeah. Yeah. -It's beautiful.

-So, it's always with me. -Wow.

-Right. Yeah. -That's wonderful.

Things happened really quickly at the beginning.

Neighbors were dropping off food.

The phone was always ringing.

And every time there was a potential sighting,

my heart would just race.

And then there were these long periods

where nothing would happen.

Your dad was never here. He was, he had to keep busy.

He'd organize search parties and...

just keep moving.

You know, we're feeling pretty optimistic.

You know, Matthew and Jordan, uh...

they're, they're pretty confident in the woods.

Um...

Yeah, they... they're coming home.

We're gonna find them.

Mom, can you tell me about the...

last time you saw Matty?

Well...

it was Halloween night.

I was taking you out trick or treating.

And Matty said he didn't wanna go.

They were too old,

So, they went out by themselves and, um...

they knew they had a 12 o'clock curfew.

We went trick or treating and, um...

we got home.

And the boys weren't there, so...

we went to bed.

And the next morning

I woke up

and I checked Matty's room

and they weren't there.

And I went to the high school and I...

taught my first two blocks, and then I thought...

I'm just gonna check the attendance records,

make sure the boys are there.

The boys weren't there.

And that's when I called the police.

And he hasn't run away or done anything like this before?

-No. -Matthew and... Jordan?

Yes.

Okay. One moment, ma'am.

โ™ช

The initial witness reports put both boys at school

right till the end of the school day, 3:45 PM.

Then both young men went home for their evening meal.

According to Brenda Nichols, Matthew left the family home

just before 6:00 PM.

She noted that he was wearing a dark blue windbreaker style

jacket and a dark backpack.

The next witness was a clerk at the local gas station.

And he confirmed that he'd seen both Matthew and Jordan

in the store that night.

Very specific time, 6:17 PM 'cause he had a timestamp

receipt of what the boys had bought there.

And the third possible sighting was Reverend Tom Sinclair.

But unfortunately, Reverend Sinclair couldn't a hundred

percent identify that it was Matthew and Jordan he saw.

He could confirm that he saw two young men,

one wearing a, a dark windbreaker headed towards

Black Bear Forest up off Highlands Drive there.

That was at 6:40 PM.

That was the last possible sighting.

And it leads into one of the problems with the case,

because it was Halloween night.

So there were lots of kids and families out,

and two fairly nondescript teenagers walking around town

just didn't attract that much attention.

From all of the information we'd amassed,

we actually came up with three working theories

of what might've happened to the boys.

We looked at their interest in making movies.

What's up? What can I get ya?

So we thought, well, maybe they

left the island and went

to Vancouver to get into the film industry.

You know, maybe they even went to Los Angeles.

A bit far-fetched maybe but we, we checked it out.

We looked at ferry logs, airport logs, security footage,

all the marine outlets, boat rentals.

But, uh, we didn't come up with anything.

We interviewed everyone in the town.

I remember that.

And we didn't find any evidence that there was

any animosity towards the boys.

But that forced us to look at the families.

I was asked a lot of questions, and...

and I think it was hard

because it kind of made me, you know, like...

like, doubt myself.

Definitely made me doubt my parents, which was

weird for a while.

Well, the Nichols were ruled out

because their alibis checked out.

Then we, we talked to the Reimers.

[slide projector sound]

The situation was very hard.

I mean, it was hard for everyone,

but things were really ugly for Jordan's family

because fingers started getting pointed at them.

You know, most folks in town, including your family,

were very open with the investigation.

But, um, the Reimers were more challenging.

And, you know, they are an Indigenous family,

and, uh, there was a hesitancy, which I completely understand

in dealing with the police.

So then that delay got out, and then the talk started.

People were accusing Mitch and Ronnie.

And all because of some silly...

rumors...

about some...

Satan stuff.

There was a great deal of panic.

Was it this? Was it that?

I remember, uh, one, uh, uh, I think it was a newspaper,

uh, I recall being said they'd heard that there's

a Satanic cult going on.

I, I said, what, where do you get this information?

We were starting to lose that, uh, community feeling.

It was stupid, really.

You know, small town folks, small town thinking.

There was no basis in reality.

And eventually the Reimers did cooperate. Fully.

And that's how they were cleared.

We focused on Black Bear Forest

because the entrance was

the area that they were last possibly seen.

And, you know, that that is a huge area,

And it's a treacherous area, you know, it's heavily wooded.

They could get lost for days.

And if you get too close to the ocean there are cliffs.

And in the forest itself there are creeks

and hidden ravines.

If they fell down one...

You know, people drown on the island every year.

[waves crashing]

About two weeks

into the investigation,

we found a cabin in the forest.

[camera flash whines]

In that cabin we found, uh, a camcorder.

[camera flash whines]

Fingerprint evidence confirmed that both Matthew and Jordan

had handled the camera.

But we didn't find any other evidence.

So we couldn't prove that they put it there

or anyone else put it there.

There was no evidence they'd even been there.

There was certainly no evidence of anywhere

where they might've gone. And, and we searched.

We just didn't find anything that would help us

confirm where the boys were, and...

Um, unfortunately at that point

the case went cold.

What about the camera footage

on the camcorder that you found?

Well, to the best of my memory, it was just, um...

more of the same and, you know,

similar to the footage that we,

that we took from the family home, um.

It was just hours and hours of them in the woods.

You know, goofing around with the camera.

Playing make-believe.

Making a movie.

Ahh!

Come on dude, you gotta stop. You gotta stop.

-What, man? -You gotta stop!

[Brenda] He saved up money from his allowance

and he bought himself that camera.

Oh man, those boys loved that camera.

And Matty was good.

He just came out of himself.

Jordan not so much.

He was more reserved.

He was more of a behind the camera kinda guy, you know.

Dude, do something.

Jordan!

Can I just get back behind the camera?

The Blair Witch Project is enjoying magical success.

The story of three film students drifting

through the frightening darkness of rural Maryland

is one of the top films in the world right now.

Those boys went to that movie,

I think twice a week for, like, months.

I just wanna apologize...

to Jordan's mom.

And when they weren't watching that movie,

they were talking ghost stories.

I...

summon the spirit of...

Roy Mackenzie.

-Excuse me. -Yeah?

Do you know about the legend of Roy Mackenzie?

Have you heard about Roy Mackenzie?

Uh... no...

I don't know about him.

I know a guy named Troy.

Roy used to trap up in these woods.

Him and and a bunch of hunters

had an old trappers cabin up there.

Yeah, he lived out in Black Bear Forest.

Yeah, yeah, that's what we found in the library.

[crow caws]

-[Markian] Hey. Morning. -[Tara] Hi.

Film headquarters slash hotel.

-Yeah. -Me likey.

-We like it. -Me likey. Yeah.

Um, can you help me actually move some of these boxes?

Yeah. Do you wanna put it on the bed here?

I do, I wanna keep it all on the bed.

What do you wanna start on? Do you wanna start paperwork

or do you wanna... -I think we should probably

go through the paperwork first. -I think... yeah.

-Kinda like, to build... -Also just to-- knowledge.

Yeah, the knowledge thing.

There's a lot of stuff we need to know, and then we'll move...

Where's that? Where's the evidence?

Oh, it's right here. This is the evidence box? Yeah.

Then these are actual, like...

-Yeah, material... things. -Things.

-Yeah. 'Kay. -Okay. Cool.

-So I guess take a file? Yeah, let's go.

Yeah, and just start.

-This is so insane. -I know.

Oh... my god. Okay.

This is gonna be so much footage to go through.

Ryan, do you mind, uh, digitizing all these for us?

-Uh... what do you got there? -Yeah, yeah, can you do that?

Umm...

Just so we can watch it on, like, a laptop or something?

Eight... eight millimeter?

What... the fuck?

Markian, look at this.

Oh, that's creepy as fuck.

What is that?

It's, oh, it's a totem, I think.

-For what? -Yeah.

A totem, um, like Druids would use them for, like,

casting spells in D and D.

Oh. Oh, I get-- oh, I see.

Yeah, right? 'Cause, like, these-- one of these

You do know what...

D and D, like...

-Dungeons and Dragons, yeah? -Mmm...

-You don't know that. -I've never played it.

-You've never played? -No, I've never played.

You've never-- give me that. You've never played D and D?

-No. -What are you, a nerd?

-You grew up under a rock? -I'm, I'm a nerd?

-You guys are the nerds. -I'm sorry. No.

He's no-- that's unacceptable.

I did cool stuff growing up, so.

Cool? Like what?

-Soccer. -Sports? I knew it.

-Yeah. -What did I say?

The jock.

[Tara] Thank you.

[mechanical whirring]

[Tara] Here.

I've already seen these ones.

Whoa.

Holy. This is the totem.

Markian, look, see?

In the woods there. This is that...

totem, and yup, police report.

[nervous laugh]

Found 50 feet outside abandoned cabin. That's it.

And Pam didn't mention anything about this.

The-the only thing that she said that they found

at that cabin was the camcorder.

Right.

Isn't that kind of like a, a big thing to, to leave out?

Yeah. Uh, yeah. No, no, I agree.

That's a, that's a big detail to kinda miss.

It's a huge detail.

-Yeah. -Like...

I mean, is it possible, Tara, that Pam just forgot?

I mean, look, it was 22 years ago.

I barely remember what I did this morning.

No, no.

She would've remembered.

Yeah. No way.

That's weird.

Early 19th century...

Dude, what are you even looking for?

Dude, I don't know.

Uh... some book. Maybe late 20th century.

That guy did say that--

Okay, wait, hold on. Vancouver Island.

Local history. Should be right about here.

Um, let's see...

Whatever it is.

I mean, if it even exists.

-Matt, come here. -Hmm?

Dude, check-check this out.

Dude.

-Nice find. -[glitches] Look at that.

-Pretty old. -I know, right?

Oh, ooh.

-Dude, give me the camera. -Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, yeah.

There you go.

Dude...

Check this out.

Do you, uh...

Do you think it's Roy's? [laughs]

I don't know.

But it seems pretty fucking old to me.

Yeah, man.

[Ryan] Check this out for a second, guys.

Where's that thing?

That wasn't in evidence?

No, no, there was nothing like that.

Wait, where were they just at there?

Early 20th century, no.

That's almost there.

And Vancouver...

Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

This is, this feels like it, right?

-Yeah. -Okay.

-Yeah, I think this is it. -Okay.

Yeah! Yes, 'cause of that map.

-Okay. Let's, I guess, just-- -Okay.

Well, how about you...

search this section? -Yeah.

But I'll just, like, look around as well too.

Yeah, yeah, come back and find me in a few, okay?

-Yeah. Sounds good. -'Cause I'm gonna...

[inaudible] and transcripts, no.

-Hey, hey. -Hey.

So, I checked with the person at the front

and they don't recognize that book.

Yeah. I mean, well, it's not here, so.

Whatever they found they took.

There is no concrete evidence that Roy McKenzie

is a real person.

He's a cultural myth.

And that serves a purpose.

Tales are meant to elicit positive behavior in children.

For example, there's the Baba Yaga of Ukraine

and Eastern Europe, who feeds on young children

who wander too far into the woods.

There's the Skinwalkers of

Central and South American lore,

who can take the shape of animals,

often coyotes or wolves.

There's the Yama-uba of Japan.

They live in the mountains with long, flowing black hair.

The Hungry Ghosts of Buddhist philosophy.

They represent a gnawing hunger within humans

that can never be fulfilled.

[growling and cracking sounds]

In North America, there's the Wendigo.

A supernatural being that infects its victims

and causes them to crave human flesh.

As for Roy Mackenzie,

he's just an old story on the island

to keep the kids out of the woods.

People say that he set up his own sort of a religious commune

up in the forest.

They built cabins.

Places where hunters could gather their, their families

and shelter and lead expeditions.

And as the story goes,

during one particular harsh winter...

Roy comes down to the village alone.

[wind blows]

[footsteps]

There's blood on his clothes.

And he's babbling in tongues.

The villagers chase him off.

But a couple of them follow him up the trail,

back to the commune.

And when they get there

it's deserted.

All the families and hunters are gone.

But one of the cabins

has red smoke billowing from the chimney.

[wind blows]

Roy steps out of the cabin.

Scrawny and skinny.

Blood dripping from his mouth.

And then he looks up to the sky

and he begins to howl.

[howls]

[howls]

[laughs]

I'm... I'm sorry if I frightened you.

So... wait...

he ate all of his followers?

Perhaps.

Who knows?

You know...

Victoria has a lot of stories about haunted houses.

Can-can I tell you more stories about haunted houses?

[Markian sighs]

I don't know...

I think we should've gotten him

to talk about haunted houses.

That would've been pretty good, right?

[laughs]

Markian, um, my brother heard one of those stories

and decided to chase after it, and then I never saw him again.

So...

Yeah, well, what this prof is saying is interesting...

intellectually, it's actually pretty hard for me because

for me, this is not some big theoretical thought experiment.

For me this is actually very, very real.

-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-- -It's fine.

You know what I don't get...

is...

if Matty and Jordan

were so keen to find this guy Roy's cabin,

why isn't there any footage of it on the tapes?

What are talking about?

Well...

I digitized all the tapes, right?

Yeah.

And we got footage of them running around in the woods,

exploring, playing pranks doing like little--

What are you saying, Ryan?

There's just no footage at the cabin.

No... we-we... we know that they went to the cabin.

We know that, that the camcorder was found there.

Yeah, I'm just saying that...

the cabin is not in the footage.

And you're 100 percent on that?

Yeah. Nowhere. I logged it all.

Holy shit.

Gabby, Gabby, listen to me, okay?

Something about what they gave us back

is not checking out.

[Gabby] But why, why do you say that?

Because, because, listen, Gabby, okay?

In the police inventory report that was filed in 2001,

they have eight tapes listed on the intake form.

-Uh, okay. -Okay.

Eight tapes.

That's what they took from my parents' house.

Matty and Jordan's. Eight.

But then, hold on.

Yes. Here. Then...

on the outgoing inventory report,

the inventory that they gave back to my mom,

like, a few weeks ago,

they have listed... eight tapes.

Uh-huh.

Eight in. Eight out.

Gabby, that doesn't check out.

Why?

Because what about the tape on the fucking camcorder?

They found Matty and Jordan's camcorder in the woods.

We know they did. It was in the evidence report.

So why isn't there another tape?

Hey Gabby, this is Markian speaking. Um...

The problem is we don't know if there was a tape

in the camcorder. -No! No, no, no. No way.

We do know that Matty and Jordan would not have gone

all the way up there and not loaded up the camcorder.

Okay. Gabby, listen to me.

I'm telling you.

Pam, or... or, or somebody

withheld something.

Okay, well, sometimes there can be clerical errors

when evidence is released.

What is a clerical error?

It's, I mean, if the case is old enough, Tara.

Come on, it's a small precinct.

Gabby, I'm sorry, I really am sorry, but I do not

give a shit about excuses right now.

Okay. Okay. I will file a motion with the court

citing a possible error on the evidence manifest.

Okay? I'll get on a call with the local detachment.

Can you send me a copy of what you have?

Yeah, yeah, I can, I guess.

Can I just, like, text you photos or...

Yep, yep. Do that.

Hey, we're gonna figure this out.

Okay.

Um, hey Gab, when, when do you think we could get

kind of all this stuff by?

I mean, if we get lucky, maybe...

maybe a couple of months.

A couple of months...

[sighs]

Tara, it took almost a year to get the evidence released.

Oh, okay.

Okay. Thank you. Sorry Gab, I'm just...

-I know. -Yeah, you know, it's just...

Thank you though.

That's, uh, yeah, that's it.

Thank you for everything. I'll call you later.

-Okay. I'll talk to you later. -Okay, bye.

[call ends]

God dammit.

[groans]

This is ridiculous!

โ™ช

-I can do it. I can do it. -Well, it's easier if I do it.

I know.

-Okay. -Good luck.

Thank you. Let's go.

Ah... shit.

Showtime.

Hi. Uh, I called ahead. My name is Tara Nichols.

[Police Officer] Uh... okay?

My family has a release of evidence on a case

that's been closed. I got... I got the...

uh, this paper thing here.

My lawyer provided me with that.

So, you're here to...

Yeah, there was additional evidence that wasn't

returned to the family.

I'm here to pick it up.

Uh... okay.

Take a seat over there please.

Okay. Uh, thank you.

I mean, how long does this stuff usually take?

Is this-- oh, Ryan, Ryan.

Ryan.

For real?

Clerical error?

Fucking clerical error?

Okay. Are you... fucking kidding me.

Go. Drive. Clerical error?

[Tara exhales]

[Tara] Do you see what I'm saying though?

Do you see how that's pretty, that's just, that's messed up.

It's crazy. I don't-- I, I don't know. I don't know.

Honestly, I don't even know what to say anymore

because this just seems too much.

It's like thing after thing. Really, really?

And, and this, like, this, this is the one thing

that gets missed? I don't, I don't know.

I just, I think that's, that's so fucking convenient for Pam.

That this is the one thing.

I don't, I don't buy it.

How is this happening? How, how, how does it take me

going through the manifest and, and, and having this feeling

that something is just not right in order

for all of this to finally happen?

Like...

I mean, isn't that why you're doing this process?

To figure things out. To clear it up.

Yes. It, but...

Right. You're right. I know.

All right, should be good to go.

You just hit play.

Okay.

Sure you wanna do this?

I have to.

You could wait.

I've waited 20 years.

[suspenseful music plays]

[suspenseful music plays]

[Tara sobs]

[Tara sobs]

-Dude, come on. -Matt. I'm tired.

Dude, what did you expect?

You expect we were just gonna come off the road

and find it immediately?

-No. I, I... -Come on, man.

No, dude. They said the river with the fallen tree.

-The fallen tree's right there. -No, no. We went this way.

-Shut up. Come on. -Matt. Matt!

We did not come this way before, come on.

Oh, my God, dude!

We found it, man!

Dude, we did!

Okay, okay. Frame up, frame up, frame up.

I give you the hunting lodge of...

-Drum roll, please. -[imitates drum roll]

The infamous Roy Mackenzie!

Whoo! [laughs]

Where do you wanna set up?

Uh, I'm not sure.

Where do you wanna do the thing?

Uh, I think right here.

Teern Mazoon.

Helash Inzotta.

Bun-Ganu.

Methuna Denna Melakta.

Methuna Denna Melakta.

Methuna Denna Melakta!

Squeeze.

[breathing heavily]

[whispers]

[creature chitters]

[rumbling sound]

[boys laughing]

[groans]

Jordan.

[grunting]

Jordan!

Something's happening.

[retching]

[inaudible whispering]

This isn't funny. Dude. Matt.

Wake up, Matt. Matt, this isn't funny.

-Matt! -[creature chitters]

Matt, wake up!

-[growling] -[Jordan panicking]

[screams] You're hurting me!

[screaming continues]

[bang]

[bang]

[footsteps]

[footsteps]

[white noise]

-That's it? -Mm-hmm.

Well, I guess we know where the Satan rumors came from.

Yeah.

You think it's fake?

Yeah. [scoffs]

Want to explain it for the...

Yeah. Um...

Well, I mean, they loved The Blair Witch Project.

-I mean, that's been clear. -Mm-hmm.

We've literally seen the footage you digitized.

They, they did shot for shot.

Right? Okay.

So I am saying that that footage

has to be for sure staged.

Right? [stutters] here's a theory.

I agree with Pam. I agree with what she said.

Is that the boys, Halloween night,

go up to Black Bear Forest to that cabin to shoot

their Blair Witch, Roy Mackenzie.

Which, that name sounds fake, by the way.

I've always wanted to say that.

And they get to the cabin, they put the camcorder there.

They go. Right?

They put it there so somebody could find it

and the mystery of what that whole thing is. Right?

They're on their way back to town,

they get turned around,

pretty easy up there in that forest,

and one falls down a ravine.

And then, that's...

that's just, yeah, that's kind of it.

I mean, anything on that video you and I could've done

and we could go in the forest and shoot.

Yeah, you and I could've done it.

-Yeah. -But let's keep in mind,

you know, these kids were 17.

-Yeah. -It-it's 20 years ago.

You don't have access the same, you know, like editing, like...

-What do you mean editing? -Compositing. Like--

-Did you see all the cuts? -Yeah, but it was in-camera.

You could barely see anything!

They're not doing it on a computer.

It was grainy the entire time! I'm not saying they did it

on a computer, that it's just grainy.

-So, it's not VFX then. -No-- practicals.

Okay, but those are good practicals.

I didn't say they're not bad, yeah.

All I am saying...

is that it's possible

for that footage to be staged.

And it is more likely

that that's the case than

the footage actually being real.

-Mmm. -Right?

-Yeah, of course. -Yeah.

Yes, yes!

Thank you.

[exhales]

[knock at door]

What the fuck?

Is that our door?

I don't know, it might've been the neighbors.

[louder knocks]

Uh, that's us. That's us for sure.

Yeah. Who is it?

I don't know.

Do you want to get it?

-[knocking continues] -Yeah, yeah. Hi.

Uh, now... it's fine.

That's totally okay. Now is completely fine.

Yeah. Let me, can, can I, can I get an address from you?

Yes.

I don't know.

Get dressed.

[crickets chirping]

I put this stuff away a long time ago.

And when your mother called and

she said what you were doin'...

She said it was part of your healing process.

If I can help, then I'll try.

Jordan was a good kid.

He was quiet. He kept to himself.

He was a deep thinker.

Losing a child...

Never understanding why, it's--

It's one of the hardest things that a parent could ever go...

[clears throat]

[Tara] Yeah.

Um,

do you ever feel that you impeded the investigation?

They asked the questions. We answered.

You know, we cooperated.

100 percent.

You know, I just didn't think it was right that they came

into our house and just tried to search it for no reason.

[Tara] Uh, this is a, a difficult question,

but I, I just have to ask.

Did you or your wife Ronnie, ever have anything to do

with Jordan and Matthew's disappearance?

No. Never.

What do you think happened to Jordan and Matthew?

I like to think that they went out into the woods together and

came across Raven.

They became friends with him.

Because their bond was...

so strong.

He made them his brothers.

And they flew off together.

Into the sky and...

they're out there right now.

Free.

[Tara] I don't know if you remember this, but, um,

one summer, back when we were all kids,

Jordan and Matty and I were playing in that tree fort

that we had out back.

I, I fell off the top deck and I, I broke my arm.

It was a clean break, but God, it hurt so bad.

I was screaming, so scared.

I was a little kid.

Um...

So, Matty went in to go get Mom, but...

Jordan just sat there with me.

Just stayed with me,

told me that everything was gonna be okay.

And then he, he took his hand and he kinda like...

placed it over my arm, right where the, the pain was.

And, and he started doing this kind of twisting motion.

I think he said it was Reiki or something.

And he said he was trying to

draw the energy out.

You know, we hurt ourselves.

Pain just...

shoots through our body in this

corkscrew spiral.

If you know how, you can...

use your hand and...

gently move the pain away.

I taught him that.

Cool.

Yeah, uh...

I'll always remember that. I mean, it worked, it-it...

took the pain away.

I'll never forget Jordan, just right there with his hand

over my arm.

I think there's something I need to show you, Tara.

Just, uh, watch your head up here.

Just, uh, watch your head up here.

Oh, thank you.

I am hesitating to share this with you.

Even now.

[sighs]

There's things out there in this world.

There's something out there in the forest.

I know.

What do you mean?

There's things that we shouldn't speak about.

When we do...

it gives them power.

Makes them real.

This thing has that same energy and it--

scares the hell outta me.

You can use it.

Just...

be careful.

[ominous music plays]

So, were you able to review any of that,

that stuff I sent over?

Obviously it's more difficult to confirm authenticity

without seeing the book, but the journal speaks to

hunting techniques that seem appropriate to the time.

What about the totem and the, the drawings and the...

languages at the back of the journal?

There certainly appears to be some form of

religious practices.

I'm not an expert in linguistics,

but the handwriting looks too modern.

So, I'm not sure if it was your brother or someone else

who could have added it.

As for the totem,

it, it looks like something your brother

and his friend could've made, I...

I don't know whether they did it based off

ideas they got from the journal

or from somewhere else.

It's just what we talked about, right?

Yep.

Okay, you're just gonna stick to the questions.

Don't go all...

You know.

No, I don't. What?

Just, you're just... sticking to the questions, right?

Yeah. I know.

Thank you Pam, for coming back.

You're welcome.

-We really appreciate it. -Yeah, you're welcome.

Thank you so much, and, uh...

I'm glad it worked out you could come here.

-Yeah.

-It's good to see you all again.

-You too. -Yeah, good to see you.

Um, great. So, we're just gonna do the same thing

like we did last time.

Tara's gonna be conducting the interview.

-Yep. -Um, and, uh...

-So, yeah, talk to her. [laughs]

-Okay.

And, uh, yeah, whenever you two are ready.

Thank you.

-All right. -Okay.

-Yeah, I'm good. -Yep.

Okay.

So, I've seen the DV.

The one that you hid from the evidence report.

-For fuck's sake. -And-- stop.

And the, the totem, the totem that

you guys found out in the woods.

-Why did you do that? -Tara, can we just talk--

Why? I-I'm just asking a question.

It... the tape is a piece of evidence.

I mean, you didn't, you didn't destroy evidence, but you...

you did hide it. So, I just wanna know,

why did you do that?

I don't know what you're talking about.

-You don't? -Markian. Markian.

-This is not cool. -Okay.

I'm just saying this is a valid question!

Stop, stop. Stop recording.

[overlapping arguing]

Stop recording.

I'm not comfortable having this recorded.

Fine. I don't have to ask. We can turn off the cameras.

You know, I can still see the red light, so...

-[Tara] Pam... -It's just, it's just power.

-We're gonna take the cameras-- -Respectfully. We are--

-We'll Get the cameras out. -Stand down, thank you.

Yes. That's what we said.

-Yes, give me two seconds. -I know.

[Tara] Okay, just go in that other room. Pam...

I'm-I'm gone.

-I'm off. -Sorry.

Let me just get this out here 'cause I wanna ask...

Okay. Okay.

-Cameras are off? -Yes.

-Yup, cameras are off. -Yeah.

Here we go.

That cabin.

-What about it? -Where is it? Where is it?

I need to know where that cabin is,

so you're gonna show me on this map.

You can either show me--

Tara, you don't need to go up there.

Or I will go up there by myself

with no idea where I'm going.

Tara there is nothing up there.

We knocked the cabin down.

Uh, why would you do that?

Well, because it was dangerous.

You have to understand the context.

Okay, so why-- I'm sorry, why didn't you tell anybody

about the camera footage then?

-Do you know-- -Answer my question.

-Answer my question! -I am answering--

Stop that! Stop speaking to me like that.

You're in my home.

If I couldn't see how much this has affected you,

I would throw you out.

So, you just listen. If you want my answers.

You were just a child, so you may not remember,

but the town was absolutely paranoid ten days after

Jordan and Matthew disappeared.

And there was outright hostility toward

the Reimer family.

And people ta-talking about devil worship and cults

and satanic rituals.

So given that, we, the authorities, could see

that we were in danger of losing control of the situation

and that's when we found that tape.

-Mm-hmm. -After that.

-Mm-hmm. -Right?

-Mm-hmm. -So you've seen that tape?

-Mm-hmm. -Given that context,

what do you think we should have done?

I think you should've done your job.

I think that you should've investigated a crime scene

as you're suppo--

Sorry. [scoffs]

Tara.

That cabin-- we couldn't even prove that a crime

had taken place.

It was so implausible, we didn't for one moment,

entertain the possibility that it was real.

There was the cabin, there was a camera

with your brother and Jordan's fingerprints all over it,

and no other evidence.

So, you've seen that tape.

Don't you think there should've been some skin?

Or some blood?

Or some bits of bone? Or a body?

Or a sign of a struggle? But there was none of that.

-There was-- -There was none of that!

There was no evidence.

And so there was a...

a meeting behind closed doors with the mayor and, uh, the...

the investigative team and the...

the officers from the south.

The Commanding Officer for the island for Christ's sake.

And the situation was discussed,

and it was decided that if we released that tape,

we were in danger of creating mass hysteria in the town.

So, we didn't.

The official report was written.

Matthew and Jordan went into the woods and they got lost and

fell down a ravine.

But that tape. Hmm?

Why wouldn't you tell my parents about that tape?

You were okay with them just, what, suffering for--

-Tara, no. -Years?

Tell them what?

Tell them what?

That I had a tape of their only son

practicing a satanic ritual?

How could I do that to your family?

Look, I wrote my report.

I wrote what I think happened.

And maybe I left out some details,

but I think it was the most decent way

to put what I saw.

I'm sorry what happened to you and your family.

I can see that it's had a terrible effect on you

and I hope you get some help.

Jesus. I prayed about this. God.

I prayed to God to ask him what he would have me do.

And I decided that this was the, the best thing

and the right thing to do.

So I hope you understand that.

But even if you don't...

the official report...

Is as far as anyone on the investigative team

could or can understand the situation, so...

I don't think you should go up north.

I don't think you should go into the woods.

There's nothing there.

I think you'd be far better off facing the fact

that your brother is gone, Tara.

He's gone.

And he's not coming back.

Okay. Can I...

Can I just take a quick second?

-Yeah. -Okay.

-Thank you. -You bet.

[Tara sniffles]

I'm... just fine. I just have to go to the bathroom.

I'm fine though.

[Tara stifles a sob]

I'm sorry.

You have to get her some help.

-I know. -This is terrible.

I know. But, thank you. Um...

-We're gonna get outta here. -Okay, we're done.

-We're done. -I know. Yeah, thank you, Pam.

โ™ช

[waves lapping]

I think we're

at that point where this process is doing

more harm than good.

It was supposed to help her, but it's

clearly doing the opposite.

What the fuck is she doing?

Hey!

Tara?

Tara!

Tara!

[music intensifies]

[machines beep]

So you think we call it?

Uh, I think that's up to you, man.

It seems like...

It seems like she's going through a lot of intense

feelings and memories

that she hasn't dealt with in a long time.

I don't know if it's good for her.

Okay, I'm calling it.

-Hey. -Hey.

How you doing?

Okay.

So, they're gonna discharge you.

But the doctors recommend that you get some rest.

So, I'm gonna book us on a ferry off the island

and we're all gonna go home.

Okay?

Okay.

Look, Tara, making this movie is one thing.

But your health is obviously more important.

Yeah.

Yeah. Okay.

[Brenda] Promise me

you won't let this overwhelm you.

[Tara] I won't.

[Tara] I won't.

Mom, I won't. I promise.

Come here. Give me a hug.

Hey.

I watched your father go through this.

Trying to find Matthew.

Don't stay here long.

Maybe we're not supposed to know everything.

I love you, Mom.

I love you.

My little girl.

My little girl.

[thunder rumbles]

[seagulls cawing]

Filming the sad director packing up?

-Yep. -Yeah. Nice.

Hey, um, you guys take the van.

Just leave me one of those camera packs. Okay?

What?

-What are you doing? -I gotta go up there.

-Stop. No. Tara, stop. -I gotta see what's up there.

Markian, I gotta see the cabin. Okay?

-No, stop! Tara, stop. -What?

There is nothing up there. Okay?

Pam told us they knocked it down.

-No. -It's the end of story.

-Pam lied to us. -I'm not just walking up--

Pam lied to us before.

How do we know that she's not lying to us again?

-That is such paranoid thinking.

-Okay, well you know what?

-You don't have to come with me.

-No.

You don't have to come with me, Markian!

Do you understand what you're doing right now?

Do you understand the position that puts me in? Okay?

What does that even--

I'm responsible for this production.

I'm responsible for your safety.

Oh, fuck off. You are not responsible for me!

-You're not in charge of me! -Yes, I am. Oh, come on, Tara.

You're not.

Okay. Okay, okay. Fine, fine.

If you are, if you are responsible for this

you're the director, right? This is your movie. Hmm?

What do we have? How does this movie end?

Tell me. No, really, how does this cut together?

It ends, and then we what? We all run home happy?

-And we roll the credits.

-It ends with you finding peace.

-Tara. Okay? -Peace.

-Peace. -Peace? Fuck off with peace.

-Stop, don't touch me. -Don't talk to me about peace.

Don't talk to me about peace.

You have no idea.

I know...

I know nothing.

I know less about my brother now than when we even

started this whole thing.

[Tara sighs]

Okay, Tara. Tara? Just come here.

-Just give me a second. -I know.

-Can we just-- [exhales] -Give me a second, please.

[exhales] Can we just please, please just breathe.

Just fucking... oof.

-I'm breathing. -This is so intense.

-I know. -Okay?

-This is so fucking intense... -I know.

and it's little fucking scary, okay?

[Markian exhales]

I get it. I get it.

I get-- I get it.

We will go to that cabin, okay.

Or whatever the fuck is up there.

We just... I need to do it properly.

Okay? We need more support people.

-We need the right equipment. -Properly?

What does that even mean? Doing it properly?

-We need to take time with this.

-Okay, what, are you gonna go

back home and beg people for money to help you come up here

and finish your movie? You know

that's not gonna happen.

Markian, you know that's not gonna happen. Okay?

You know it.

We are here right now.

We are going right now. I'm going.

You can stay or you can come with me.

Can you fucking speak up for once?

Just always fucking standing there.

Fuck!

โ™ช

[inaudible mumbling]

As a historian, I know that humans have believed in

all sort of different things at various stages of existence.

[Markian] I think we both recognize

that Tara's on a bit of a war path here.

And I've just...

I've got a concern that she's going to

go into that forest and wander.

-[Pam] Oh, no... -I'm...

All right, so I got the bags,

the tents, the sleeping bags, tarps, fire starter.

Now, people used to believe there was

a God who lived in the sun.

And if you left little sacrifices for him,

the sun would shine more often.

The location, if you don't mind sharing,

I would really, really appreciate

So we have some guidance and direction

of where we're going.

You understand there's nothing there.

Nowadays, most of the world

doesn't believe in a plurality of deities.

[Pam] I don't even know if it's still there, Markian.

But there used to be a forestry road there.

Is that wrong? No.

It demonstrates that a personal belief system

can be attributed to the cultural norms and customs

of a given society at a given time.

Helash Inzotta Bun-Ganu.

[suspenseful music plays]

[Pam] And you take that forestry

road about five kilometers

and it's a walk through bush,

another kilometer towards the ocean.

I guess I put your question back to you, Tara.

Do you think it's possible to summon a spirit?

[music intensifies]

-Okay. -Yeah.

There's your tripod.

-Uh, it's just a little guy. -'Kay.

This is FX3.

You've got another one in Tara's kit.

Batteries charged enough? We're good?

-Yeah. -Okay.

You can't shoot constantly, but almost.

-Yeah. -Yeah.

And this, you can run 'em as much as you want.

-Cool. -The lights, there's lots.

All right. Love you, thanks for doing this.

Thanks for setting that up. All right.

Thanks, buddy.

Please, be careful.

Ryan, if we are not back here tomorrow at noon,

you call someone. Okay?

Who do you want me to call?

Well, Pam knows where it is, but I don't know, uh...

The cops.

-'Kay, let's go. -Okay.

[bird squawking]

โ™ช [female vocalizing] โ™ช

So, once we get to the spot,

what's the plan?

Just get some B-roll, you know, experience the environment.

Say goodbye.

Uh, Tara...

she just had to race up here.

Couldn't do it with more people or properly

'cause she's gotta do her thing.

Hey!

-What? -Do you know where we're going?

I'm following the map, Markian.

Look.

Tree by the river.

Right there.

Hey.

What's up?

This is it.

This is it?

Yeah. This is where Hamilton marked, so...

For sure?

Yeah.

[Markian exhales]

So, nothing here.

Well, I guess they knocked it down.

Pam was telling the truth.

Okay, just wait a second though.

Markian.

Huh?

Come here. Look at this.

What?

Here. You see that?

And there.

It's a circle.

Are you getting this?

Yeah. Yeah, I see it.

Look.

Here.

And here. This is something.

This... this is something.

Okay.

Let's set up here.

โ™ช

[fire crackles]

[fire crackles]

So, what did you realistically expect to find out here?

I don't know.

Um, I guess just...

some...

sense of understanding of this all being...

I don't know.

I mean, I don't really know what the alternative is, so.

You accept that they drowned,

or that they fell down a ravine,

or got lost in a cave that nobody knows about.

There are alternatives if you choose to see them.

Okay. But...

those explanations are only plausible if you choose

to disregard what we saw on that tape.

[Markian sighs]

There's...

there's, like, this idea that keeps

gnawing at me about what Laserge was saying about

beliefs being tied to cultural norms.

We used to believe that there was a God that lived in the sun

and that the entire universe revolved around the earth.

So, what if now...

right now, we are at this point in society where we start

to understand that these unnatural events,

these events that can't be explained away by science

or, or the laws of nature, that these events

can actually happen.

There's just, there's just so much footage

out there right now that can't be rationally explained.

So, what if, man, like, what if we are on

the precipice of finally realizing that there is more

to this world than what we can see with our eyes?

[sighs]

You should acknowledge that you have

a pretty big confirmation bias.

Because if what you're saying is true,

that means you could find your brother.

Yeah.

So, you're gonna do this no matter what I say, right?

Yes.

[lighter flicks]

[lighter flicks]

You brought that thing?

Yep.

It was theirs. I know it.

Ah...

[breathing heavily]

Methuna... Denna... Melakta.

Teern Mazoon.

Helash Inzotta Bun-Ganu.

Methuna Denna Melakta.

Neero Teern Mazoon Helash Inzotta Bun-Ganu.

Methuna Denna Melakta.

Methuna Denna Melakta.

Methuna Denna Melakta.

Matty?

Matty...

Matty, it's me.

It's Tara.

Matty, if you can hear me,

if you or Jordan can hear me...

I want you to try to move this pendant. Okay?

Okay, Matty?

Please.

Please, if either one of you can hear us right now,

I want you to just try to move this pendant.

Please, Matty, please.

Please, can you just try to move this pendant

just a little? If...

If you are here with us, can you please...

Can you please-- come on, Matty!

Just-- can you please, just...

just, just move this pendant.

Please. Please.

I don't know.

I've tried everything.

I've tried every possible thing that a person can try,

and I just...

I don't know if I can do anything else.

I think I just

have to finally accept that

he's

gone.

He's never coming back.

Hey, Markian?

Yeah?

I'm really sorry.

-Tara, you don't have to-- -No, please just let me.

I'm really sorry.

But thank you for

coming with me.

I am so proud of you.

And I'm honored

to have come on this journey with you.

Thanks for saying that.

I'm okay.

-Mm-hmm? -Mm-hmm.

We can go home now.

[low rumbling]

-[Markian] It's on, it's on! -Tell me when you're rolling.

-[Tara] You're rolling? -I'm rolling. I'm rolling.

Okay. Okay.

Okay, okay, Markian.

Just let me-- can I get a light on?

-Right here. -Let me put a light on.

Ah! What are you-- Tara? Fuckin'...

Shh!

You gotta come with me.

What?

You've gotta see this.

You've gotta see this right now.

-I'm not kidding. -Come on, Tara.

I'm not kidding. Okay?

Just-- what is happening?

We're gonna open-- it's fine. Stay calm.

I need you to put your shoes on right now.

I need you to come outta this tent.

-All right. -Okay? Okay.

Just give me one second. Can you give me one second?

I-I know, I am. There. Can you see?

Okay. Just chill. Chill.

-Oh, my God. This is-- -I'm going.

-I'm not kidding. -I'm going. I'm going.

-All right. -Okay.

-You good? You got the camera? -Yeah.

-Is the camera still rolling? -Yeah. It's good.

-Keep the camera rolling... -It's good. It's going!

-...the whole time. -What is happening, Tara?

[Tara] Come with me! Come with me.

Okay? Come here.

[Markian] What the fuck?

-This is-- this is not-- -Where are we, Tara?

Can you tell me what's happening?

This is really happening. I need you to just

believe me for a second. Come with me, please.

[Tara] Okay.

Just... run. Okay.

[Markian panting]

Look, look. See?

-See? -What?

-[laughs] Look! -What the fuck?

I know. We just, we just missed it.

-We just missed it. -No, no, no, no, no!

[stuttering] Tara, we were, we were right there.

-What the fuck is this? -Markian, we just missed it.

-No, there's no fucking way. -Come here. Come here.

They knocked it down. What the... fuck's this?

-[Tara] Hey, hey! -Hey.

Go get the other camera.

Oh, fuck...

-Markian, go! -Oh.

[Markian] Fuck. What?

What the fuck? You're shitting me.

Fuck!

[film clicks]

[camera beeps]

Okay.

[Markian panting]

They're here, Markian.

I've talked to them.

-What? -Mm-hmm.

Watch.

[Tara exhales]

Matty.

Matty, it's me again. It's Tara.

I'm back. Um...

I've-I've brought a friend with me this time.

I hope that's okay.

Okay. Matty, look, I'm...

I'm gonna just keep asking you questions.

Okay?

So...

left for yes.

Right for no. Okay?

Do you understand?

[Markian gasps]

See, see?

Good. Good. Good job, Matty.

Thank you. That is so good.

Okay. Okay.

And, and just, just to confirm, I, I am

speaking with you, Matthew Nichols?

Good! Great, Matty. Matty, and...

And you, and you do know that it's,

that it's me?

That it's, it's your sister...

Tara Nichols?

Perfect. Okay.

Okay, good, Matty. Good. And, um...

Okay, and... and is, is Jordan there with you?

[gasps] Okay.

Okay, good. Good, good.

Now, Matty, can you tell me,

can you tell me, are you both safe?

Matty?

Come on, buddy. Come on, don't...

Don't, don't leave on me again Matty, come on.

Ma-- Ma-Matty?

Okay.

Okay, that's, that's okay, um...

Uh, Matty, uh-- are you...

Are, are you able to present yourself to me?

Matty? Matty, please don't leave me here, buddy, please.

Matty, are you--

are you able to make a sound for me?

[crow squawks]

[chittering sound]

[loud thud]

[low growl]

[rumbling sound]

Oh, no, no. Tara, this is fucked up.

I'm getting the fuck outta here!

Shh! Stop it. Stop!

[rumbling stops]

Matty?

Matty, are you still there?

Come on, Matty.

[both gasp]

[footsteps]

Matty?

Matty, it's--

It's okay.

It's okay, it's me. I'm--

I'm-I'm right here with you, buddy.

[footsteps]

[door creaks opens]

[Tara gasps]

-[Markian] Oh... -Thank God.

Matty?

It's okay.

It's okay. It's me.

[sobbing] It's me, it's Tara.

[Matthew] Tara?

It's him.

He's here.

-[music sting] -[Markian screams]

Oh, fuck! [panting]

-[camera clatters] -No... oh, my God.

[wind blowing]

[Markian] Fuck. Where am I going?

[Tara screams]

[Markian breathing heavily]

[Tara] No, no, no!

-[Tara screaming] -Oh, fuck, fuck, fuck.

Oh, fuck.

[breathing heavily]

[Tara crying]

[vocalizing] Fuck!

What the fuck? [exhales]

[panting] Breathe.

[eerie music builds]

Oh... that's not fucking real.

Let's go. Man the fuck up!

Man the fuck up.

Markian, you can't fucking leave her.

Ah, fuck!

Hey! Tara!

Tara!

Tara?

-Tara? Tar-- Tara? -[Tara incoherent yelling]

Hey, Tara! Hey!

[Tara incoherent yelling]

-It's me, it's me, it's me! -Stop! Please, stop.

-Ahh! [panting] -Hey!

[Markian] What the fuck? What the fuck is happening?

-What's happening? -I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

I said I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Markian.

-What? -It's not-- it's not--

It's not him. It's not him.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Markian.

[both scream]

What the fuck? Tara!

[demonic scream]

Tara!

[Markian panting]

[stuttering] Fuck. I don't wanna fucking die.

[panting]

-[snapping sound] -[Markian screams]

[Markian yells in pain]

Ahh!

Fuck.

[groaning]

Okay. Oh, God. Okay.

Okay. Okay.

[groans in pain]

[chittering sound]

Who's that? Hey.

Hey! Who's there?

[music intensifies]

[panting]

Fuck you.

-[quiet growling] -Hey, fuck-- fuck you!

Oh, my God.

[Markian groans]

[bird caws]

[music intensifies]

Tara?

[branches rustle]

[scream]

[Markian groans]

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!

No, no! No, no!

[Markian screams]

[distant screams]

[distant screams]

[whispered vocalizing]

[chittering sound]

[wind howls]

[camera beeps]

[Tara] And so, whatever I find, I'm--

I'm okay with, because--

If it's nothing... great, that's fine.

That's basically what I have right now.

And if it is something, then...

Yeah, I...

I'll have gotten to know my brother better.
