literally it's essentially just the fetishization of the exotic you know the
charm of the unfamiliar
Touch me, don't touch me.
It's being in love with the idea, with the symbol of blackness, whilst ignoring
the cold hard truth that you are part of a system of exploitation.
touch me don't touch me because
it capitalizes on the
exotic
touch me don't touch me
see
me don't see me
because
you know we see the beauty of um the culture but we don't see the pain behind
it um product called the top tan
injection which became popular in the late 2010s Basically, what it is, is
that it's a synthetic hormone called melanotan.
And it can be purchased online and injected into the skin. And what it does
is that it encourages the skin to darken by increasing the amount of melanin in
the skin.
And the drug itself has several side effects, which make it unsafe, in
addition to the risks of injecting the drug into the body, which is why it's
illegal in the UK.
Black burlesque dancer Mayne Anders, or The Man Attraction, did a tribute to
Josephine Baker in the banana skirt, but didn't want its racial ideology to be a
condition of her performance. She changed the act to be performed with
grapes. arguably a less racially charged fruit, shunning the iconic banana.
It's being in love with the idea, with the symbol of blackness.
Touch me, don't touch me.
See me, don't see me.
Love me, don't love me.
I want you to love me, but not like this.
We can talk about, you know, the exploitation of people, you know, as
just labor objects, the exploitation of land, literally just like irresponsibly
and detrimentally extracting everything you can from the land for profit. We can
talk about exploitation of culture. And so if we take this and we equate culture
to a natural resource, then we can understand why cultural...
um appropriation is harmful within this system
using your platform if you've got a voice
using if you okay if you have a voice as a white uh female rapper like iggy
azalea you have so much you have like a massive white following i'm sure she has
a black following as well but she has a massive white following so that is her
prime opportunity to you know to bring that anti-racist like talk to educate
her whole following that's that's how you utilize the platform and that's you
know obviously i wouldn't argue if she was doing that with her platform but
again if this gray area what i think is different from what the next person of
color thinks
love me, but not like this.
