Because what lies just beyond that wall...

is a haunting that you could never fathom.

that we will never fully understand.

our reputation,

working alongside the most renowned professionals

capturing groundbreaking proof of the paranormal.

[Zak] This place was built as a playground for the rich.

And though it sat empty for many, many years,

vandals and trespassers broke in for a thrill.

But something inside this place

always scared them off.

The privately-owned 28-room Burrage Mansion,

situated on 18 acres, was built in 1901

for copper and gas baron Albert Burrage.

It now houses a charitable foundation

for disadvantaged youth and is not open to the public.

Not a lot of people are allowed access to this place,

OK, but because of recent events, we have been

called here to give answers to the owners and the workers.

Some of them are becoming so frightened,

there's only certain areas of the mansion they will work.

And that's a problem.

The Burrages spent massive sums to build the mansion,

then only spent a few years here before selling.

After that, two different owners moved on quickly,

despite pouring money into restoring the property

after it was abandoned.

There is no recorded reason why they fled so hastily.

The nuns of Our Lady of Victory Convent lived here

from 1940 to 1974, and there are reports

that their spirits now haunt these halls.

What dark event could have turned this once holy structure

into a place of chaotic unrest?

[Zak] There is a graveyard next door to the mansion.

Could the energy of the dead be seeping inside this structure?

[Jay] You know what worries me, Zak?

How many places do we investigate that used to be,

like, a house of God or a religious place,

and then when it shuts down, evil entities come in.

They mimic children, mimic women to, like,

make people be like, "Oh, it's still safe,"

but they're saying it's something dark.

That concerns me, that there's really

legitimately something... possibly even demonic here.

certain areas,

especially the shadowy tunnels in the basement,

where faces appear in walls, non-human footprints lead

to nowhere, and there is a thick feeling of dread.

What is lurking inside this ornate structure?

Is the entire property cursed?

OK, before we start our lockdown investigation.

We enter the mansion, and as I walk through the ground floor,

I am stopped in my tracks by what I take to be

a member of the staff.

Who is that?

Then he simply disappears.

He was standing right here.

We walked in right there. He was standing right here.

I think you saw a ghost.

I made eye contact with him, and he still

stayed staring here.

So I'm just waiting for him to go so that we can come

over here and shoot. Figured it's a worker.

And then all of a sudden, he just went like this.

And then I would have figured that if he went this direction,

one of you guys would have seen him through that way...

And they cut this way, I think.

[Zak]...and he would have went through this way.

We search inside and out and find no one.

[Jay] I don't think there's anybody out there.

[Billy] I don't see anybody on the porch.

[Zak] We review all the cameras and Aaron's Polaroids

and find no evidence of a figure.

Who or what was in here with us?

Kristin Rochford's grandfather runs the Rochford Foundation,

a charity that hosts large groups

of disadvantaged children at the mansion.

It's something that I can't, like, fully understand,

The thing is, is that we're documenting it already.

I've already seen something that I couldn't explain.

So, that's a lot of power it takes for spirits

to be able to get to that level of a manifestation.

I feel like the fact that we have hundreds of kids here

You think about at what age in human life

does the human being mostly seem to talk

to imaginary friends and interact with spirits

and they're linked to reincarnation?

It's when they're young.

Kristin's grandfather, Tim Rochford, grew up

in the neighborhood.

The foundation is his way of giving back to the community.

Do you remember any neighborhood legends

or strange, creepy stories when you were a kid

about the mansion? -So I remember

my uncle sometimes would come over

and spend some time helping the nuns, maybe trimming

the trees or just doing some different things.

And he'd just say, "Sometimes they get the feeling

something seemed different."

-"Something's not right." -And he'd say, "I'm pruning

"a tree, and all of a sudden, somebody's behind me

and then they're not." -Really?

Tim was hit by an unexplained energy in an upstairs room

the staff call "the scary room."

All of a sudden, it was as though somebody would take,

I don't know, a beach towel and wave in it

with all their might. -Really?

And the energy, you can imagine, I mean,

your hair is moving and you're feeling this energy,

this sensation.

Instead of just a wind hitting you, it almost like

went through you. -It was an energy.

It was just all of a sudden, I'm in this -- this...

vortex, if you will. -[Zak] Yeah.

Property manager Laura Leyves says the room where Tim had

his experience is avoided at all costs.

Just talking to people, I won't tell 'em

what room it is.

People who have been here before, they'll tell me,

"Oh, there's this one room upstairs," and it's always

the same room.

[Zak] What do you feel?

[Laura] There's just always something there.

I don't go in there ever unless someone's with me.

[Zak] We head upstairs to investigate the notorious

"scary room."

And when I'm just about here,

that's when I felt the sensation.

And instantly, my thought is somebody's playing a trick.

So I turned to go that direction

to turn on the light, thinking, did somebody turn the fan on?

Realized that didn't happen. And then the impact.

It was just a feeling that you knew

that you were not the only one standing here.

[Zak] Have you ever felt anything like that before?

Never. Never before nor after.

He said that, and it wa -- shot all the way over.

-It pegged to a 30. -Are you serious?

[Zak] As Tim talks about his troubling experience,

Billy notes a giant spike in EMF.

At the same time, Aaron captures a light anomaly

hovering over Tim's right shoulder.

Are these two manifestations of the same spirit energy?

Tim, we're using a TriField meter.

We're getting a baseline of about a 0.1, 0.2.

That's in milligauss.

So he just got a very high sudden spike of unknown EMF.

I asked him about Sister Mary, the convent's mother superior,

who died here in 1956.

Now, There was a room up here that we did research on

How many times do we have weird things happen

with mirrors that look at each other,

like this could be a gateway of something.

A psychomanteum is an area where mirrors face each other.

The goal is to facilitate spirit communication

which workers say is the most disturbing area by far.

Lester Smith has been painting the interior and exterior

of the mansion for 17 years.

He says he saw something in one of the tunnels

that he cannot explain.

Well, there was an impression of a nun in one of these.

Now, what happened to it? Did it just disappear?

and it reveals some cryptic markings.

Is this some sort of manifestation of spirit energy?

Years ago, Lester discovered what might have been physical

evidence of a spirit left over in the dust from construction.

And it's all filled up in white.

This is like snow, right?

So we left that night.

and then the footprints were here.

[Zak] Lester says the footprints stopped in the middle

that if it was a person, they would have gone

At this point, we are all too familiar

with the powerful magnifying effect

an underground space can have on a haunting.

So there are literal tunnels carved into the earth

of this mansion.

And I'm gonna tell you right now, when you have that,

you have a very, very high source of geomagnetic energy

for these spirits.

I feel like I've been assaulted by a malevolent energy.

We've done a lot of mansions, we've done a lot of big homes

and residences, but this privately-owned mansion,

was an absolute score, because it is very, very scary.

Add in the element of the basement

with all the tunnels that go through the carved rock,

which is serving as the main power source

for all the spirits here.

We have the layers of when this was a convent,

and now there are a lot of reports

of nuns haunting this mansion.

We've also got a suicide that happened recently,

right out in the front here with a motorcycle.

Very strange.

And then in the back, you've got the massive cemetery

with tens of thousands of graves sharing the property

with this mansion.

[Zak] Because the basement has these natural rock formations,

and when they designed the house, they carved

into the rocks to make tunnels and caves,

I think that is the main foundational source of energy

for the mansion and the spirits.

OK, I think that if that gets manipulated down there,

it can cause different reactions throughout the house.

Different doors can open. It's like a combination lock.

So I have this idea.

As someone who has done hundreds of investigations,

hearing that this woman is suffering and needs help

what was straight-up walking, things being moved around

right above me on the first floor

when there's no one up there.

So what I wanna do now is an infrasound experiment.

So the theory that I have that we've tested in many locations

is basically at places where they think there's portals,

where there's some kind of energy source,

is to try different frequencies and see if I can resonate

the energy that's in there to basically shake it out,

to open up the portal, to let things through,

to basically intensify the activity.

to show yourself to either me or my friends upstairs,

as a little tiny anomaly and grew into a full figure.

And then once it reached the point of climbing

out of the mirror, its leg got really long as if it was able

And as soon as its leg touched the floor, it disappeared.

Now it's just hovering on the ceiling.

It's touching one of your reflections.

[Billy] Can you find the real me?

[Zak] Oh, my God! That is so crazy!

It's touching your arm in there.

It's hitting you on your right side.

Now it's laying right next to the real you.

of the mirror -- ooh!

So now I'm shooting into the infinity.

It's like there's two figures above me,

right there and over there.

Look at these two, what appear to be figures,

staring at me through the mirror.

And I do have to admit that they look like two nuns.

I saw you coming out of these mirrors.

As we leave the mirror room, we all hear a crash downstairs.

[distant bang]

-Bro! -[whispering] Shh! Quiet!

Where the [bleep] did that come from?

Whoa!

Bro!

[Aaron] Hey, upstairs is probably better

and downstairs is -- -Shh...

-Whoa! -[Jay] Whoa...

-[clock chimes] -[Aaron] It just tracked -- it's something by the fireplace.

Yeah, that way, dude!

[Aaron] And then the bell went off, right?

-[Zak] Yeah. -[Billy] What the --

[Billy] It backed off of it.

[Zak] It went towards the fireplace at the same time

the clock went off.

[Billy] Oh, dude, that scared the [bleep] out of me!

[Zak] The IR rover camera was sitting idle.

Then it seems to catch something in the corner

of its peripheral and turns toward the fireplace.

It then senses something else by the fireplace

and quickly backs away, at which point it captures

this strange zigzag anomaly that seems to disappear

into the fireplace.

[Billy] Oh, dude, that scared the [bleep] out of me!

[Zak] Having been the very first group to ever investigate

this mysterious mansion was not only a privilege,

but also an incredible moment where we spoke to the spirit

of a teacher who needed our help from suffering.

-We're suffering. -[Zak] They're suffering?

Or did we make contact with the nun who died here

addressing herself as a teacher of religious studies?

we identified and concluded that this nun and other spirits

used the psychomanteum as a doorway

where they cross between dimensions.
